I’m back! Before we begin, if you’d like to read up to date on this fanfic the rest of it is posted on my wattpad under the user f0restfawn

Alone at an empty cafeteria table sat a young girl with a blank look on her face. On the outside, she looked completely normal, happy, and content. On the inside, she was far from normal.
Normal. A group of normal people, all different but also similar. They shared the same interests, opinions, and emotions. A group of people that stayed together and always found a way back after a fight. The three. The trio had been with each other for many years and were considered family by that point. A young girl named (Y/N), her crush, and her best friend. An inseparable trio. (Not the calamity trio btw lol.)
Despite the years and the unbreakable bond the three had, they always seemed to find a way to separate. Any fight or inconvenience would lead to screaming arguments over the phone or abandonment. In every situation (Y/N) would either be the target or the blame. Panic attacks would come to her often, not allowing her to keep food down, think properly, or move on.
She was never able to move on. Too attached to the good memories, pushing away and despising the bad. No matter the number of times her mother would tell her, "You have to be more mature, and don't act on your impulses because of their immaturity. You need to leave them and branch out."
But how could she leave? She cared too much, and it was too late to branch out. By high school, everyone had already formed their groups. Not to mention, the very different options of the people around her. Nervous to try something new, she would always come back.
The most recent fight. There was no coming back. The door had been shut, and that same young girl finally didn't care anymore. She felt.., free. Well, for a little while. (Y/N) had other friends, and even if she didn't talk to them as much, she still had some type of comfort. Until she didn't.
Accusation after accusation. One she hadn't even known about, which turned out to be true. She didn't even realize what had been done in the first place, as she had no idea and no I'll intentions. All of the comforts she found in those people were gone. Those people slowly drifted away from her, leaving her nothing but an aching heart.
And for the first time, she had thought about doing something she would have never even imagined before. Suicide. When she closed her eyes, she would imagine taking pills from a medicine cabinet or taking a sharp knife from the kitchen. She was suffering in silence, wanting to tell her mother what was going on, for even a sliver of comfort. But she knew better. With how serious those accusations were, she would never hear the end of it.
Living each day in fear. Fear of what she had built for herself crumbling, fear of losing her family's support, fear of losing the one thing that kept her sane, her phone. Ridiculous? I know. The internet provided enough entertainment to drown out her problems and make them disappear for a little while. All those two had to do was say one word, and that word would ruin her.
"Keep moving, keep the facade up, just make it to the summer." It was what she would try and reassure herself, but it was easier said than done.
For once she wanted them to feel what she was feeling. The pain, the fear, and betrayal, the disgust. But most of all, she wanted them to move on, as she tried to. To stop talking about her, to ignore her, to not bring her name up. That was her last wish for them.
She envied those who dared to take that step, as she wanted what was happening to end but was scared. Scared of death, scared of saying goodbye, scared of losing.
But.., hadn't she lost from the beginning?
 ✧˖°ʚ🍓ɞ♡
You scrambled to put on your converse, as your mother was rushing you out of the door at 6 am. It was your first day at your new school, and you were nervous. The school-issued uniform didn't fit your style, so you switched it up a bit. (You don't have to wear this, I just made it for the story.)
Tumblr media
"Hurry up (Y/N)! I'll be late for work!"
"I know I'm coming!" You threw your backpack over your shoulder, grabbed your other necessities and ran out of your room, not bothering to close the door.
Your mother stood near the front door with her huge purse and a hand on her hip. She looked at you for a second and then smiled.
"You seem to be in a good mood. Did you meet anyone yesterday?" She winked at you.
Your face turned red as you recalled yesterday's shenanigans.
"Wait-you did?! I was joking, but I can't believe it! I'm so proud of you!"
"Nooo..."
Your mother snickered at you. "Alright kid, we have been wasting too much time. We have to go before I'm late."
You walked out the front door and sat in the passenger's seat of the car. Your mother sat in the driver's seat and turned on your favorite song.
"Nothing wrong with jamming out before your first day, right?"
You nodded excitedly, and you and your mother jammed out to music the entire car ride.
✧˖°ʚ🍓ɞ♡
She stopped in front of the school. Multiple students were chatting and talking to each other. 'Oh no..., I'm so not ready for this.'
You looked at your mother as she caressed your cheek reassuringly.
"Don't worry you will do great. This is an amazing opportunity for you to branch out!"
"But what if I don't do great? What if people think I'm weird?"
"Then let them think that because I know the real you. You're strong, smart, creative, beautiful, and best of all, my daughter." She squeezed your cheeks at the last statement.
"Mom..."
"I know, I know. Don't embarrass you in front of other people." She let go of your cheeks and looked down at your necklace for a moment. Her face softened as she sighed and carefully inspected it. A rose quartz necklace, carved into the shape of a rose. She ran her thumb over the smooth curves in the crystal. (This necklace is so pretty, I have it irl, and I love it so much.)
Tumblr media
"I miss her so much, mom. It hurts." Your voice cracked as you began to get emotional.
She envelopes you in a hug. "I...I miss her to hun, but you have to stay strong, for all of us."
You nod, as she wipes a single tear from your eye.
"I have to go to work now before I'm late."
"Ok, mom. I love you."
"I love you too darling." You open the car door and step out. Your mother waved at you and you did the same. She drove off and your smile faded. A voice startled you out of your trance.
"I didn't know a freak moved to this school."
You turned around to see a girl around your height with ginger hair in two braids, wearing a baseball hat backwards.
"I'm sorry?"
She rolled her eyes at you. "You aren't from here."
"Uhmm... Is it obvious?.."
"Duh, I'd recognize a weirdo anywhere."
You rubbed the back of your neck awkwardly. She looked you up and down, almost like she was judging you.
"Nice necklace, mind if I borrow it?" Without waiting for an answer, the random girl snatched the necklace off your neck.
"Hey! Give it back please!"
She smirked at you. "Hmm... I don't know if I should."
"Maggie! Give it back!"
You both turned to look at who had interrupted your conversation. Maggie scowled. It was Sasha. Your cheeks turned pink.
"What if I don't?" Maggie protested.
"We both know you have too much to lose. You wouldn't want the principal to find out you're bullying a new student, would you? It would suck not being able to come to any of my sweet house parties."
"But- I"
Sasha shook her head with a smirk.
"Fine! This necklace is lame anyway." Maggie shoved the necklace back into your hands and walked away.
Sasha smiled and walked up to you. "Sorry about her, she thinks she can pick on anyone."
"It's fine, it was my fault anyway."
She seemed slightly bothered by your ability to take the blame for something that wasn't your fault. Sasha noticed you messing with the chain of your necklace, and took the necklace from your hands. You looked at her confused until you felt her putting it around your neck.
"It looks good on you (Y/N)."
You smiled at her. "Thanks."
Sasha turned away to hide her blush. "Since you're new here, why don't you stick with me and my group? Well make sure no one else picks on you."
"Sure, I don't see why not."
"I'll introduce you to them." She grabbed your wrist and you followed her into the school. You reached the gym and you followed her under the bleachers. (I have zero ideas where the trio hangs out lol)
Two other girls were standing under there. Your jaw dropped at the sudden realization. 'Holy-'
"Girls, I'm back. You remember the new friend I was talking about?"
Anne and Marcy looked up at Sasha, as she pulled you out from behind her. "Here she is. Her name is (Y/N). (Y/N), these are my friends, Anne and Marcy."
The two froze as they looked at you.
"(Y/N)?" Anne spoke up.
"Hey.."
Marcy blurted out, "Wait!-You go to this school too?"
You giggled. "Yeah, I just moved here."
"I assume you two have met (Y/N) before?" Sasha asked.
"Mhm. Yesterday." Anne replied and Marcy nodded.
"Okay cool." Sasha shrugged and leaned against you.
The three surrounded you and made conversation. Marcy showed you some of her games, Anne showed you some cheesy, teen crush magazines, and Sasha showed you clothes she thought would look good on you.
'Maybe moving wasn't such a bad idea after all.'
✧˖°ʚ🍓ɞ♡
You stayed and talked under the bleachers with the three until the bell for class rang. You walked to your first class and took a seat, which was dreadfully dull. Sometime later, you stood in the hallway between class changes and felt a tap on your shoulder. You turned around and saw Sasha for a second time.
"Oh hey, Sasha. Do you need something?"
"Anne and Marcy are coming to my house after school, and we wanted to ask if you want to come over." Her eyes drifted to your lips, then back up to your eyes.
You were surprised at the sudden invitation and blushed. "I would love to!"
"Awesome. I'll see you there, cutie." Sasha then winked at you with a smirk and walked away. You were considerably as red as a tomato.
✧˖°ʚ🍓ɞ♡
After class, you made your way to the library. It was a decent size, despite this public school being a downgrade from your previous one. You went straight to the fantasy section and scanned the books.
'I've already read most of these.'
Maybe the library was smaller than you originally thought. While busying yourself with fantasy books, a section hidden in the corner of the library caught your eye. Out of curiosity, you made your way over there.
A book suddenly fell from the bookcase, spooking you. It had a warm yellow cover, with elegant gold accents. 'Woah. This book looks old.'
You picked it up and dusted it off. A large star was on the front of the cover, it looked like a crystal. It sent a chill down your spine. You picked it up and sat down in one of the beanbags on the other side of the room.
You flipped through the pages, only to find words in an unknown language. Strange symbols and images were on all of the pages. The most noticeable page was in the middle. What made it stand out from every other page was how the page was gold, instead of the regular brown color, and had a huge image of the sun brightly shining down on hundreds of figures, bowing down to the sun's glory. All words on this page were in an unknown language, except for one section.
This section read,
"The glorious sun, shining bright for the entire solar system to witness.
Blinding all with its beauty, but burning those who dare to get too close.
The sun is a star. This star who will deliver us, and protect us from hidden evils unawakened.
The fourth of the three points to the highest level. Mending and healing what is broken.
Oh glorious sun, shining in even the darkest moments. The greatest sorrow will not dim your shine. As your radiance will bring light into the darkness.
But beware. To use this power too great, could put an end to the light. Never fly too close to the sun, unless you're willing to burn."
'Wow. That was...deep.'
You didn't understand the poem but decided it was too interesting to put down. A shifting noise pulled you out of your daydream. A person had sat in the bean bag across from you, so sucked into the book they were reading, they didn't even notice you sitting there. You grinned at who it was.
Marcy was reading a book you had read before. A book full of unexpected twists and turns, and was about halfway through it. 'Just wait until the main character dies.'
Her eyes widened and you giggled. She looked up to see who laughed. "What? Why are you laughing?"
"Oh, I've just read that book before, and the same thing got me too."
She smiled at you. "Please don't spoil it for me though."
"Don't worry, I wouldn't do something like that. I hate it when people do that to me." You smiled at her.
Marcy blushed and turned to the next page. You got up and sat right next to her, and then proceeded to lean on her shoulder. She looked like she was about to explode from embarrassment.
'Cute.'
✧˖°ʚ🍓ɞ♡
It was finally time to go home, and you were super excited to go to Sasha's house. 'I'm so excited to go to someone's house. Maybe we'll play truth or dare, prank little kids on Roblox through adopt me, or maybe even play spin the bottle-.'
You shook those thoughts out of your head as a blush began to rise to your cheeks. Your mom arrived to pick you up. You got in the car and looked at her.
"Hey mom.., I know this is late notice, but I made a friend at school and I want to go to their house."
Her eyes widened as she suddenly hit the brakes. You jolted and let out a small scream.
"You were invited to someone's house?!"
You nodded at her excitement. "Yes, her name is Sasha Waybright."
Your mother grinned and made teasing noises. You blushed and covered your face.
"Oooh, you made a new friend and she's a girl?" She grinned at you.
"We're just friends mom."
"Okay then, whatever you say." She began to drive again and took you home. You needed to pack a few things before you go to Sasha's house.
You grabbed some necessities, a change of clothes, and other things and stuffed them in a small kuromi bag. (I adore kuromi so much, Live Laugh Love Kuromi)
You threw your bag over your shoulder and went downstairs.
"Okay mom, I'm going to Sasha's house now."
She looked up at you from the counter in the kitchen.
"Alright! Have fun dear! Don't stay out too late!"
"Okay mom, love you."
You walked over to Sasha's house following the address she texted you. You knocked on the door, and Sasha opened it.
"Hey cutie, I'm glad you came."
You smiled at her.
"Come on inside, Anne and Marcy aren't here yet, but they will arrive soon."
She opened the door wider to let you in and then closed it behind you.
"Follow me."
You followed her up the stairs into her room. It was fairly big and clean.
"Nice room."
"Thanks, you can set your bag down if you want. I'll be right back, I'm gonna go get something."
You nodded as Sasha walked back downstairs. 'I should change out of my school uniform.'
You walked into the bathroom inside of her room and changed into some lounge shorts that showed off almost your entire thighs, and an oversized crop top that fell off your shoulder slightly and had astrology designs on it. You put your school clothes back in your bag and sat down.
"Ok, I'm back-."
Sasha walked back into the room and almost had a heart attack when she saw what you were wearing. Despite being oversized lounge clothes, they still showed off your features, and Sasha couldn't help but stare.
"Oh hey, Sasha-...Are you ok?"
Her face was red and she looked away respectfully. You stood up to her about to ask what the matter was, and Sasha stood forward, only to trip and fall on you. Luckily, you caught her and your hands were resting on her waist. Your lips were seconds away from touching and you both stumbled back immediately.
"Ah- I'm sorry." She scrambled for words.
"It's fine." You looked away flustered.
You wished you would've kissed.

is shirou a mary sue? the guy is universally well liked, cooks like a pro at 17, has the most op power from all fate (and arguably one of the most cool powers on media), nothing ever happens to him on the true/canon path of each route, he does many stupid things but no one cares 5 minutes later, other times like in salter vs rider he is just a tactical genius out of nowhere
he is not.
shirou is well-liked but he isn't particularly popular. he is known at school for being helpful and handy but otherwise not that many people are aching to get to know him or involve him in their lives. most people only know shirou very superficially. he is not sought after as a person, only as a handy man. there's a really neat scene at the beginning of hf1 where people are talking about shirou in the dojo and see that while he's earnest, hard-working, and talented, he's a bit odd and intense and that makes him a little difficult to approach casually. the only people who really like him are those who sit down and actually spend time with him. apart from the heroines of the story with whom he has time to develop a romantic bond, you don't see other girls falling head over heels for him. in fact, in hollow ataraxia the homurahara trio and mitsuzuri are quick to write him off as someone they are vehemently not interested in romantically whatsoever.
he only cooks like a pro because he had to teach himself to cook since he was 8. it's vital to understand that since kiritsugu became increasingly disabled and was utterly incapable of living as a normal human being, shirou was forced to grow up well before he was ready to take care of his adoptive father. he learned to cook, do the dishes, do the laundry, and clean the house because there were no other real adults in the house. shirou's domestic usefulness didn't come out of nowhere, it's a set of skills he took on out of necessity and came at the expense of his emotional growth.
shirou's power also isn't op. it's stated multiple times in the story how difficult it is for him to tap into it. he's not a natural mage with strong magical circuits, and neither does he have any real "useful" magical alignments that would make it easy for him to use conventional magecraft. every training session shirou has is a life-threatening act where he pushes his body and mind to the utmost limit for the low chance he might succeed at strengthening or projecting something. whenever he grabs hold of an ability that elevates his combat skills, it's either a) done with saber's help in the fate route, b) acquired as his soul inherits experience from his proximity to archer in ubw and receiving mana from rin, or c) obtained at the expense of the integrity of his mind and body as archer's arm starts to supplant his existence in heaven's feel. and even then, there's limits to what he can trace and project. he can't trace divine constructs normally as seen with ea, and his projections eat through his mana. think about what happens in heaven's feel too. every time he projects something with archer's arm he leaps closer to death because he can't handle the strain.
to say nothing ever happens to him in canon is also disingenuous. he doesn't die in a permanent sense, but take a moment to consider the amount of mental and physical pain he suffers that forces him to confront something about himself and change. did "nothing" happen when he faced gilgamesh and heracles with saber? is growing closer to her to find the best way to help her assert her personhood "nothing"? did "nothing" happen when he fought archer? is realizing the truth of your ideals and grasping the resolve to realize them anyway in a healthier and more self-aware manner "nothing"? did "nothing" happen when he fought heracles, saber alter, and kotomine? is saving your loved ones and claiming your life as your own after years of not seeing yourself as a human being to protect those dear to you so they too learn to love and accept themselves "nothing"?
take a moment to consider in what ways shirou is stupid that aren't contradicted by him being smart in others. shirou is socially inept and utterly incapable of asking for help because he is a traumatized teenager who doesn't know what a normal life is. he has few friends. he survived a fire. he is constantly trying to make up for being unable to rescue anyone in the calamity that destroyed his childhood. he constantly jumps in front of danger to save others for that very reason and refuses help because he doesn't want others to get hurt because of him until he learns to overcome that fear of being destroyed and seeing others be destroyed. he is dumb at being a person because he's never let himself be one. he is smart in a fight because he's at least been able to process his stress and trauma in a way that helps him rationalize his way out of a crisis.
i feel the need to stress that a protagonist having special qualities fit for the narrative isn't them being a mary sue. it's them simply being a main character with agency, a main character that is engaging and interesting. how boring do you think shirou and the story would be if he was really a shit-ass mcnobody with no talents, personality, qualities, or meaningful connections to the setting? he'd be no different from every other harem protag the cishet male audience can use as a self-insert. he is supposed to subvert ideas of masculinity by being domestic. he challenges conventional ideas of heroism by showing how his ideals are flawed and how important it is that he self-actualize.
shirou faces consequences for his inaction and inexperience multiple times too. saber gets frustrated because he won't (tell her why he really won't) fight and that causes a rift in their relationship he must fix with honesty and mutual understanding. shirou's inability to protect himself from hypnotic suggestion gets him kidnapped by caster and forces archer to rescue him, and in turn their shared stubbornness elevates their conflict to deadly levels until they're forced to fight to work out their differences. heaven's feel shows you how his unwillingness to forsake who he is to properly scold sakura and save her makes the situation worse when sakura loses faith that shirou will keep his promise to her until he decides he will fulfill it for both their sakes. people do care! saber cares when her master doesn't see eye to eye with her! rin cares that shirou is too willing to throw away his own life for others! archer cares that he is at risk of becoming that which archer can't forgive himself for being! sakura cares because seeing the man she loves come home bruised and bloodied every night is wrong! illya cares because he is her only true family! rider cares because if shirou can't be sakura's ally then she's as good as dead! everyone cares because shirou has to learn to care too, and he does!
i'm going to ask you to try to engage with media without trying to uncover flaws under rigid standards like this because all it does is keep you from properly understanding what is being shown to you. you cannot hope to judge a story and its characters for all their flaws or merits if this is how you approach things.

Hello I Made A Playlist
It is specifically for the vibes of the Calamity Trio! Also, I feel like contributing to fandom, so I tried to explain why I felt each song gave off the ~Vibe~. Apologies for the length of this monstrosity. It’s on Youtube and Spotify, but there is a song on Youtube I used that was unavailable on Spotify. It’s in no particular order, although maybe I’ll organize it one day.
~‘California Friends’ (The Regrettes)- Generally the fun upbeat vibe of the song, but also these specific lyrics make me think of Anne’s :
I think I love you but then I think
     No way!
I gotta go but I wanna stay
    Just stay!
I guess I’ll save it for another day, well okay?
As well as:
I get mixed up in my head, you do too
     But I don’t forget a thing you’ve said
     Well that’s true
I think the lyrics definitely give me more Anne/Marcy vibes, but the music itself makes me think of Sasha getting them into trouble. There’s some big garage band energy here, and it just makes me think of them running around and causing chaos. (also the ‘i gotta go but i wanna stay/just stay’ definitely reminds me of the end of the aquarium episode)
~’The Archer’ (Taylor Swift)- Oh man this song where do I even start?? There is so much?? (I know I’ve already talked about this one, but Imma do it again) I was listening to this song one day and the lyrics hit me so hard as reminding me of all the girls, specifically:
For Anne:
    Combat, I’m ready for combat
I say I don’t want that, but what if I do?
‘Cause cruelty wins in the movies
I’ve got a hundred thrown-out speeches I almost said to you
I feel like this is pretty self-explanatory, but this seriously makes me think of her relationship with Sasha -or the shambles of it anyway oof- and the speeches line just makes me there’s so much that she doesn’t tell her friends about what’s running through her head.
Anne’s an emotional person to be sure, but she’s also a very impulsive one, which means a lot of times, what people get from her is the unedited, unreflected version of her thoughts, which don’t make them any less true, but that also means that she’s probably a little more reticent with the deeper ideals that don’t get unearthed through dramatic moments. She just does things a lot of the time, and when she gets stuck on something, it is kinda obvious from the outside, but she also gets uncomfortable with trying to talk about it, because there is no clear solution she can enact in the moment to resolve it.
For Sasha:
Screaming who could ever leave me, darling?
    But who could stay?
I see right through me, I see through me
As well as the repetition of ‘they see right through me/can you see right through me’, these lines give me huge Sasha vibes, specifically. I think of them kind of especially applicable to the Reunion episode, but also just how there were a couple scenes where she seemed to be regretting hiding from her friends the toad rebellion that was going to take place in Newtopia, and that conversation Anne and Sasha have in The Third Temple. I don’t think she ever considered regretting the rebellion at all, but I do think she worried over what it might do to her friendships.
The end of Reunion was heartbreaking, for both Anne and Sasha, because if the Plantars had been able to pull both girls up, I think there would have been more opportunity for Sasha and Anne to have a better reconciliation. (i think this about this a lot ngl) And, also because she was willing to die for Anne??? I don’t think that gets discussed enough. That episode has big ‘who could ever leave me’ at the beginning, and then at the end ‘who could stay’ vibes.
For Marcy:
And all of my heroes die alone (OOF)
As well as
All the king’s horses, all the king’s men
     Couldn’t put me together again
‘Cause all of my enemies started out friends
Ahahaha this is the ANGST. So. I mean, obviously the king’s horses part makes me think of the ending of True Colors, and I don’t think that Marcy considers Sasha and Anne to be her enemies by any stretch of the imagination, but I don’t think that Andrias is above manipulating her to think that they think of her that way. (Also the line ‘cause all of my enemies started out friends’ line is very applicable to Anne and Sasha as well, it just happened to be part of the lines that made me think of Marcy) Plus sticking around the king and whatever the heck he has in store for her will definitely not put her back together sooo-
The ‘help me hold onto you’ and the ‘I’ve been the archer/I’ve been the prey’ just apply to all of them (for the former, think Sasha and Anne in Reunion, the way Marcy tried to mediate in The Dinner, and just True Colors in general; for the latter, it makes me think of the sword-fights between Anne and Sasha, as well as how Marcy once believed that Andrias actually cared about her). The ‘Dark side, I search for your dark side/But what if I’m alright, right, right, right here’ make me think of how Anne is going to be reevaluating her friendships with both Sasha and Marcy, as well as how all of them seemed to grow into the Amphibia communities that they landed in and what they are going to struggle with leaving behind.
I had this song on loop for way too long trying to word my feelings out about it.
~’Soldier, Poet, King’ (Oh Hellos)- This song is just so absolutely perfect for the three girls. I’d like to take the time to state that I think Sasha fits soldier, Marcy poet, and Anne king, but what are y’all’s thoughts?
There will come a soldier/Who carries a mighty sword
He will tear your city down
Big Sasha vibes, fits with what’s she done so far in the show, as well as how she’s being set up for the third season to be a hero (whose intentions somewhat align with the consequences of her actions).
There will come a poet/Whose weapon is his word
He will slay you with his tongue
Marcy spends a lot of time journaling, and she even takes the time to learn a dead language! She seems rather skilled with more traditional weaponry, but her biggest boon is her intelligence and her quick-thinking. I also think that if she does end up getting possessed by the Night, its words being spoken by Marcy’s voice is absolutely going to SLAUGHTER Anne and Sasha.
There will come a ruler/Whose brow is laid in thorn
Smeared with oil like David’s boy
Apart from the fact that Anne literally has plants growing from her head in the S2 finale, she is also a charismatic leader who has made connections all over Amphibia. She genuinely cares about the people around her, and takes the time to get to know them and spend time with them. Also, a lot of times, she is underestimated and seen as the David to her opponent’s Goliath- whether that be physically or in skillset.
~’Someone To You’ (The Banners)- No specific lyrics here, but the general vibe of the song. There is a sort of desperation that seems to permeate it, as though if the narrator isn’t someone to the person they are singing to, they will be nobody at all, and I think that is very much how all of the girls view their friendship, at least at first.
Marcy gets the music box thing going because she doesn’t want to be alone; Sasha is desperate to have Anne, and she wants so much for both Anne and Marcy to look up to her as someone who is strong and present. I think for Anne, we kinda see this song in the speech she gives to Sprig in Best Fronds when she’s trying to get him to break the rules with her, but also in how she is open to reconciling with Sasha in The Dinner and giving her a second chance. Mainly, though, what I associate with Anne for this song are the scenes where she reunites with Marcy and Sasha for the first time. The spinning hug she gives Sasha, and how tightly she hugs Marcy with tears in her eyes- she really does love and care about these girls.
They all cling to this friendship so much, in different ways, both healthy and unhealthy, and I think this song really captures that.
~’Lost Girls’ (Lindsey Stirling)- This song is mostly instrumental, so again, no specific lyrics here, but there is a very deep, melancholic feel to this song. It gets kinda fast-paced at some points, and reminds me of the ending of True Colors, with Anne and Sasha and Marcy separated. There is so much space- literal and internal- between all of them now, and I think this song does a really great job of getting Those Feels across. They aren’t just lost to each other, they are also struggling with battles inside of themselves.
But the lyrics that are in this song, (lol I just said I wouldn’t mention them whoops) ‘Lost girls find a way’, are sung, the music played after them that plays remind me that, like Matt Braly said, sometimes things have to be broken to be fixed again. They can find a way. It’s not a happy song to be sure, but there’s a quiet strength and determination in it.
~’Long Live’ (Taylor Swift)- I could cite specific lyrics here, but this song has just always given me epilogue-end-of-the-battle scenes, where we get to see everyone exhausted, but happy and most importantly together. This song is what I’m hoping the future gets to be for Marcy, Anne, and Sasha; happy about their present together, being able to heal despite the past, and accepting that even if they aren’t together forever in the future, that doesn’t mean they weren’t important to one another.
~’Torches’ (Oh Hellos)- ‘Torches’, on the complete opposite hand to ‘Long Live’, kind of represents where the girls are right now with one another.
Despite keeping that old wheel turning, despite laying that next spoke down (yes these are direct lyric references), they are also continuing to make mistakes with one another.
I got a venom like a snake running out of my mouth
(Running out of my mouth, running out of my mouth)
It’s got you burning at the stake
Innocent or not, you’re not a bet I care to take
And, yet, somehow, they keep being led back to one another. They are more alike than they think, and even if they get back to Earth, they will still be bound by the mutual experiences they had on Amphibia, that no one else is likely to ever understand. The ways they misunderstand one another and don’t communicate cleave them apart, but also together, in a way.
And Father Ignorance will make brothers of us all
(Brothers of us all, brothers of us all)
As he sets our torch aflame
Chasing down the flimsy specters that we pro-create
As well as
Mother Fortuna, O, she makes sisters of us all
(Sisters of us all, sisters of us all)
When the faces in her wake
Look more like our own than the effigies that we immolate
~’Castle On The Hill’ (Ed Sheeran)- Purely just the vibes. Nothing super deep, just makes me think of how Anne, Sasha, and Marcy are going to look back on their friendships and their time together.
~’Trouble’ (Valerie Broussard)- Though I will forever associate this song with Six of Crows thanks to a fabulous animatic, I will say that it also makes me think of the darker tone that Season 3 might take on, and how each girl is poised to take on a different problem. I see it as a very Sasha song (especially ‘I’m your Number Two man in a fight/We are revolutionaries tonight’), but all three of them tend to lead a trail of chaos in their wake. (Also the vibes here are impeccable)
~’Time Alive’ (K.C Katalbas)- (not on Spotify, definitely recommend checking it out) This song just has that perfectly nostalgic, yet aspirational feel to it. It is hopeful, yet it it has its own sort of weight. It pairs nicely with ‘Long Live’ and ‘Castle On The Hill’, in a way, I think. It makes me think of what the future could be for the girls, once again, and how even if something is bittersweet, you are still allowed to be hopeful. Mostly, it makes me think of each girl reflecting about one another, and the time they spent together.
And this is your life, every plan has a right to fall
And this is your heart, through the dark it’s the loudest call
    And this is breathing
    And seeing her go
~’Try’ (The Lightning Thief)- True Color battle against Andrias vibes! And Season 3 vibes! A lot of these lyrics are kind of specific to Annabeth, Percy, and Grover’s characters, but I also think the general feel of this song is very applicable to Anne, Sasha, and Marcy. Particularly, I am reminded of how Sasha and Anne will be feeling about Marcy.
    I may fail you
   I may fail you
I may fail you, but that doesn’t mean that I won’t try
And
I’m not leaving your side til we find what matters
I’m not leaving your side til we’re back home
I’m not leaving your side til you’re remembered
No matter how far we have to go
As well as probably the guilt that Marcy was feeling during True Colors:
Two thousand four hundred forty eight reasons I have to come along
Wash my hands of past mistakes
As well as
The weight of the world’s on my shoulders
Like Atlas, it’s crushing me down
We’re not brave, we’re not strong, we’re not soldiers
And how could I forget?
    L.A doesn’t seem so far away…
~’Drive It Like You Stole It’ (Sing Street)- Again, like ‘Trouble’, but a little softer. If ‘Trouble’ has Sasha vibes, this one makes me think of Anne, but it also has a similar line to ‘Time Alive’- this is your life. For the most part of Amphibia, I think the girls focussed a lot on fitting in and adapting to their surroundings, but I think Season 3 is really going to see them owning who they are and taking it upon themselves to enact change.
It also just makes me think of them messing around and being kids, trying to figure out who they are. It’s like, if they ever make it back to Earth in one piece and stay friends, but still manage to get into shenanigans.
~’What’s Up Danger’ (Blackway, Black Caviar)- local newt king gets mauled by three newly empowered thirteen-year olds
~’How Far We’ve Come’ (Matchbox Twenty)- This one is a classic. No playlist of mine is worth its salt if it doesn’t have this song here. It has the ~vibes~ of pre-last battle energy, and also I can definitely see Sasha and the Sharps playing it at some point.
Alternately, this also makes me think of Anne, Sasha, and Marcy finally going home together or reuniting properly after the end of True Colors. Lots of angst either way.
~’We Are Young’ (fun.)- What I picture with this: Anne, Sasha, and Marcy are not entirely reconciled with one another yet, but it’s the night before the last battle or somethin’, and they still care about one another a lot. This has that energy. They’re just kids, but they’ll be damned if they don’t go out without a fight, and without standing by one another’s sides.
(and marcy found someone(s) to carry her home nanananananana)
Slightly more uplifting(?) than ‘How Far We’ve Come’, but similar energy, I think.
~’Pump It’ (Black Eyed Peas)- three local teenagers get pumped to cause problems on purpose; montage time. I have no justification for this song, only that it has the vibes of Sasha and Anne’s relentless energy and the confidence of Marcy swinging down on a rope she doesn’t know will actually hold her weight.
~’Disaster Hearts’ (I Fight Dragons)- I feel like this song is the definition of Matt’s tweet about how some things have to be broken to be fixed. It has vibes of the aftermath of a battle, and opening the door to reconciliation and forgiveness. Amphibia has tied these girls together, for better or worse, and I think there is room for them to become better friends and mend their relationships.
Disaster has a way of remaking our hearts
Long after all the thunder and scars
Days pass and bit by bit we begin to restart
    Our disaster hearts
~’Thus Always To Tyrants’ (Oh Hellos)- It makes me think of where Anne and Sasha are left at the end of Reunion, but also in how Anne wants to find Marcy now that she know she’s definitely out there. The sound of the song gives me huge Marcy vibes, with how it does seem to be almost cheerful? The very last line makes me think a lot about Sasha (‘Learn to love without consuming’), but I think a lot of the song is applicable to all the girls in different situations.

Mail Through Time And Space
To whoever gets this,
Hello! My name’s Rinku and I’m 8 years old! I have decided I want to send letters to people and you get the first one!
I don’t really know what to put, there’s so much I could say. I’m practicing sword play with my twin, Link. We... don’t really like it, but we do it because we want to protect everyone, especially mom and Aryll, she’s our baby sister!
I hope I can hear from you soon!
Rinku
---
Dear Rinku,
You might find this a little strange, but my name’s also Link, like your twin. I am 9 years old. Sounds like fun, sending letters to strangers, and I’m glad I got to be the first to get one!
I think you two practicing for that reason is… noble. I think that’s the right word. I’m pretty good with a sword myself! Been practicing since I was 7, how long have you been practicing?
I hope this letter finds you well.
Link
---
Dear Link,
Wow! I didn’t think I’d reach someone with the same name as my twin! Link says hi by the way. Aryll probably would too, but she can’t really talk yet.
Noble? I asked mom what that means and she said having good morals, whatever those are, but I guess that means good things so thank you!
Link and I have been practicing since we were five. Dad Father wants us to become knights when we’re older.
I… I don’t want to… but
Nevermind.
Rinku
---
Dear Rinku,
I’m sorry to hear that being a knight is being forced upon you. Sounds like your father is a bit stubborn.
I know how that feels, my father is the same, though more about teamwork than my plans for the future. Still though, I hope things can become brighter, maybe he’ll see that you and your twin’s passion lies somewhere else.
Take care,
Link
---
Dear Link,
Thanks, that really makes me feel better. Lately things have been getting… bad. I wanna tell you, but Link, my Link, doesn’t think it’s a good idea. So let’s talk about other things!
Our birthday is coming up soon! October 30th! When’s your birthday? Is it soon? I wanna be able to send you a gift!
Write back soon!
Rinku
---
Dear Rinku,
I’m sorry to hear things haven’t improved for you, but as my grandfather says, keep a stiff upper lip. There’s always a storm before a rainbow. He says strange things but he means well.
I don’t know if this’ll arrive before your birthday or after, but happy birthday regardless! I’ve put something in the envelope and hopefully it’ll stay safe.
It’s half of a kinstone, when you find the other half and fuse them together, something good will happen.
As for my birthday, it’s still months away. Mine’s March 4th
Looking forward to your next letter,
Link
---
Dear Link,
I don’t think I’ll be able to send letters as often anymore. Somehow Link and I pulled something called the ‘Master Sword’ and it split in two. Everyone’s calling us the ‘Chosen Heroes’ and telling us that we have to begin training soon.
I’m scared… I have a really bad feeling…
I hope I’ll be able to hear from you soon.
Rinku
---
Dear Link,
Hah… I don’t even know why I’m writing this. It’s been so long… a century. I doubt you're even still alive, but something in my heart urges me to write this anyway.
So much has happened, where do I even begin?
Link became the Hylian Champion at the same time that I became Captain of the Royal Guard. We barely saw each other after that, he always had to follow the princess while I had to train the troops to prepare for Calamity Ganon.
Even with everything, it didn’t matter.
We still failed.
That beast took everything from us, Hyrule is in shambles. I hope wherever you are, you’re safe.
Link was shot by a guardian, these huge metal monsters, they put him in the Shrine of Ressurection, an ancient piece of Shiekah technology that would supposedly heal him.
I fell in Kakariko… yet, here I am. Apparently they put me in a room that had some sort of Stasis similar to the Shrine.
The difference however… I remember everything.
Link remembers nothing. Not even me.
But we managed, we survived, we took on so many trials together.
And then we took on Calamity Ganon.
It’s gone now, Hyrule is finally safe, we fixed our mistake.
So why does it still feel like we failed?
I wish I could have met you…
Like I said, I don’t even know if you’re alive, I might be sending this to a dead man. But on the slim chance that I’m not…
I really hope I can see you.
Rinku
---
Fiddling with the kinstone half that he had fashioned into a necklace, Rinku sighed heavily. Nearby he could hear Link fiddling with the Slate. The two of them were relaxing on the Plateau, needing some peace and quiet.
A snapping sound caught both of their attention, as one they looked over at the source of the sound, dumbfounded to find themselves staring at a group of people. How the hell did they get up here?
“Pardon us… but would either of you be named Link?” Rinku bristled faintly, defensive as he felt Link tense beside him.
“Who wants to know-?” His terse reply was suddenly caught off by a quiet gasp from seemingly the smallest of the group.
“Rinku…?” His ears flicked and he looked over at the speaker, the guy looked like he’d seen a ghost, the way his gaze kept flicking between his face and… his necklace?
“That’s me, yes…?” He replied cautiously, well aware of the confused looks both of them were getting. He tensed as the other approached after murmuring something to the supposed. The other raised his hands passively, showing they were empty and that he meant no harm.
“Your birthday’s October 30th.”
Rinku stiffened in surprise, he was not expecting him to say that.
“You didn’t want to be a knight and neither did your twin, he has a passion for baking while you had one for sewing.” The stranger continued softly. “On your ninth birthday, you drew the Master Sword together-” They were both aware of the sharp gasp from the group behind the smaller male, but neither acknowledged them.
“Just mere days before then, you received a letter holding half a kinstone.” A soft, hopeful smile crossed his face and Rinku could swear his eyes shone with four different colors. “Kinstones are special… if you fuse two halves together…”
“...Something good will happen.” Rinku managed to finish, staring at the other in disbelief. He managed to stand and half walk, half stumble to the other. He had hoped, he had wished… could it really be…?
“Link…?”
A small laugh escaped him before he held out his arms.
“You said you wanted to meet me, right…? Hope I don’t disappoint-” He grunted softly as Rinku slammed into him, knocking them both over as he hugged him tightly.
Four winced slightly as they hit the ground together, he knew the others would be completely confused about what just happened and he’d definitely owe them an explanation, but right now, he was more focused on finally being able to meet him. Finally focusing back on him, he paused before his heart melted at the mumbling he could barely hear.
“You’re safe, you’re safe, thank the goddess, you’re safe.”
“I’m safe.” He agreed softly, gently rubbing his back. “I’m safe and you’re safe…” His voice lowered as his grip tightened slightly. “And you didn’t fail.” He felt Rinku stiffen in his arms, but pushed regardless. “Listen to me, you didn’t. You, your twin, you did everything you could, I know you did. And in the end you won.”
“But Link-” He started to protest and Four shushed him sharply.
“But Link nothing.” He replied sternly. “Yes, it took awhile, but it doesn’t matter. What matters is that Hyrule is safe. You’re safe, Link is safe. You won.”
Rinku sagged against him, burying his face against his shoulder. Four settled with a small sigh before blinking as his gaze met Link’s, Rinku’s Link, his twin.
-You… know my brother?- He asked, cocking his head. -You are… the one he writes to?-
“I am.” He confirmed with a nod. “My name’s Link, just like you. But they-” he nodded to the group behind them. “Call me Four.”
Link seemed to process this before he smiled and raised his hands again.
-Thank you.-
Four blinked, confused as the other continued.
-He told you what happened to us, right? About the Calamity?- At his nod, Link continued. -I think the only thing really keeping him going was the letters he had from you from a hundred years prior. He keeps them in the slate- At that, he pulled up the stone slab from his hip and turned it around so Four could see a screen. On it was the symbol of an envelope and the numbers 523. Internally, he could hear the colors flustering.
“We really wrote that much?”
“Some of them were before us, when it was just Link.”
“Yeesh, all of that…”
“...he kept them all…”
The colors quieted at Red’s words and Four fought back a shiver at the realization. Every letter from their childhood to now, Rinku had found a way to keep them all safe and sound. He tightened his hold on the younger male, overwhelmed at the emotion engulfing his heart.
A soft clearing of someone’s throat caused the trio to jump and finally turn their attention to the group once more.
“Four… perhaps it’s time for introductions?” The smith flushed faintly at the amused glint in Time’s eye.
“Ah… yes.” He managed, fighting back a pout (he did not pout, he did not) when Rinku pulled back to look at the group with a wary eye. Just because he trusted Four, didn’t mean he trusted the rest of them right away.
“Everyone… this is Link and Rinku. Twin brothers and the heroes of this Hyrule.”
His gaze met Rinku’s and he gave a half smile.
“We have a lot to talk about.”

Zelda AU #2: The Triplets
Tumblr media
The sketch is rough at best, but Zelda is supposed to look like she does pre-calamity, Tetra looks like the girl from the BotW 2 trailer (because it is her, I might explain that later if anyone’s interested), and Sheik has his design from Smash Ultimate. This is really just my take on the twins AU which was originally created by someone else (rockingthegraveyard, I believe).
https://triforce-princess.tumblr.com/post/627266504652668928/this-is-awesome-your-brain-is-so-good
Anyways, I was thinking of what this might actually look like as a fleshed-out story, and I decided that Zelda’s twin could be named Tetra. And then I thought, “hey, we can’t leave Sheik out!” And so here we are. Basically, thanks to her siblings, Zelda is able to stop the calamity and (almost) everyone lives happily ever after. I don’t actually plan on writing this into a formal story so this is a long post where I just dump a lot of my ideas concerning the trio. I will not be writing this into a story, because I’ve never played BotW and I fear I would get everything wrong, but you’re welcome to! If someone ends up writing something based on this, I’d love to know so I can read it. I also have lots more ideas about this, so if you want more content (aside from this ridiculously long post), just ask!
Zelda is technically the oldest, although it hardly matters since they’re triplets. Thanks to this, she is arbitrarily the one who had all of the responsibilities heaped upon her. She’s pretty similar to how she appears in BotW, except Link isn’t even a potential love interest for her. He’s just her knight whom she’s gradually grown close to - as a friend.
Tetra is the middle child, and by far the most troublesome. She is outgoing, adventurous, brash, and basically everything you don’t want in a princess. King Rhoam tried to raise her to be proper, constantly reminding her that it was the hero’s (Link’s) duty to be the courageous one, not the princess. This often resulted in her running away and threatening to join the gerudo. She and Revali got along like a house on fire, often bonding over how overrated Link is. She absolutely hates Link, because to her, he represents not her failures, but the failures of her country and family. Why can’t a princess with no triforce be the hero as well? She makes no attempt to hide her distaste for him, although she might have changed her perspective a little if she realized that Link actually greatly admired her. It’s too bad that he was too scared of her to tell her himself. Speaking of being too scared to admit things, the one thing Tetra can’t bring herself to say aloud is that she has a huge crush on Princess Mipha.
Sheik is the little brother, known as the quiet one. Unlike his eldest sister, he knows how to fight, but hates doing so. He would much rather prefer to be exploring the lonely areas of the wild, or researching ancient tech with Zelda. He’s trans, and while his sisters support him and his father respects that, King Rhoam also saw that as an excuse to ignore him. After all, the legends never told of princes doing anything noteworthy. Thus, the king, and by extension almost everyone in Hyrule, more or less forgot about their quiet prince. The champions knew about him and were varying degrees of nice to him, especially Lady Urbosa, which was more than almost everyone he met could say. He didn’t mind it too much, and didn’t even realize that it was wrong until after his father was dead.
Link had a varied relationship with the triplets. Originally, both Zelda and Tetra despised him, because he reminded them of everything wrong in Hyrule - Zelda’s own self doubt, and Tetra’s failed attempts to become her own hero. Since his two sisters were always talking about how much they hated having this royal knight follow Zelda around, Sheik grew to dislike him as well, despite having never met in person. However, there was a time in the castle when Tetra practically kidnapped Zelda and whisked her away to an unknown location in Hyrule, sending everything into chaos. Sheik was pretty sure that they were both in on it and were simply trying to prove how well they could manage without Link, but they hadn’t informed him of their plan before they left, so he really had no idea. What he did know was that they left Link behind, and now the royal knight was panicking because he thought the king would blame him for letting his daughters vanish, and feared he’d be at the very least jailed.
Link, to his surprise, was not punished - the king was too busy cursing his own tomboyish daughter - but was sent to go find them alongside a team of Hyrulean soldiers. Not wanting to look useless, Sheik joined the quest. In their travels, Sheik discovered that Link was actually a lot like himself, just in completely different circumstances (and much more reckless, unfortunately), and the knight found that the prince was one of the few people who didn’t meet him with impossibly high expectations, for which he was thankful. They became fast friends, although since they both said an average of ten words a week combined, their friendship often looked more like them being present in the same room.
Much later, after both princesses had returned to the castle (“of our own accord,” Tetra had reminded everyone within earshot), the king doubled down on Zelda discovering her powers. She and her knight were rarely seen around the castle, always visiting springs and whatnot, while Zelda’s siblings were left at the castle doing... basically nothing. They were both training constantly for a battle that they were beginning to believe would never come.
Their seventeenth birthday started like any other day. They were at the castle while Zelda and her knight were off at another spring to pray, along with the champions. Then all hell broke loose. (Literally.) Something monstrous decided to rear its ugly head from under Hyrule Castle, and it took over the guardians to boot. Of course, both Tetra and Sheik became extremely concerned for their older sister, since she probably couldn’t fight a bokoblin, much less corrupted ancient technology. This, combined with the fact that the castle was probably the worst place to be right then, prompted the two to bolt into the field and find their sister. They had to fight guardians the entire way, and Sheik recieved a nasty injury, but kept denying how bad it really was.
Despite the storm, she wasn’t that hard to find, thanks to that explosion of what they guessed was her divine magic that had finally decided to say hello. They found her as opposed to the sheikah, but arrived on the scene a bit to late for the hero. He wasn’t dead (or was he?), or at the very least he could be saved/brought back, but he was clearly not about to help them fight. (Still, Sheik absolutely lost his mind when he saw the state Link was in, to the shock of his sisters. Neither of them knew he was close friends with the knight.)
Zelda quickly explained her plan to her siblings, where she would return the sword to the forest and face Ganon herself, to which Tetra said “hell no.” The Master Sword was right there! Hyrule needs saving, and the princess found herself to be a perfectly competent hero. The sword could be fixed. Somehow.
This part is where I’m a little on the fence about what happens. The sword’s health and power does seem to be tied to Link’s, as evidence by how it heals with him over 100 years and can only shoot sword beams when he’s at full health (I think), but since Tetra actually was worthy of wielding the sword, Fi could have been restored when she accepted the blade. Alternatively, Tetra and Sheik could have been the sages of earth and wind without realizing it, and we’re able to restore the sword on the fly. You get to decide how the sword repaired itself.
So now Tetra has roped herself into fighting Ganon with the Master Sword, Zelda by her side, while Sheik is losing his mind over what is basically the corpse of his closest friend. It’s at this time that Zelda realizes just how injured her brother is. She knows that he can’t fight the calamity like that, so she tasks him with taking Link to the Shrine of Resurrection, like Fi said. Initially, he refuses, but he soon decides that it’s all he can do and agrees.
The triplets go their separate ways. Somehow, the sisters are able to get to the castle very quickly, and start to challenge the Calamity. Zelda uses her new sealing powers to force him into a mortal form, while Tetra beats him up with her new weapon of choice. Ganon originally shrugs them off, more or less, but as they start to win he activates Panic Mode and summons all of his blights back to the sanctum to fight the sisters. Luckily, the blights were snatched right out of their battles with the champions, who were beaten and shaken but still alive.
However, thanks to his new allies, Ganon starts to win. Just when the princesses think they’re about to die, the divine beasts - which are under the control of the champions after the blights left - strike, finishing off the Calamity. Naturally Ganon has a few tricks up his sleeve and transforms into Dark Beast Ganon, moving to Hyrule Field. By Hylia’s (late) divine grace, Tetra and Zelda are teleported to the field as well, alongside Sheik, surprisingly. He’d just set Link up in the shrine before getting pulled here. Zelda is able to summon the Bow of Light, which becomes his weapon.
Together, the three of them are able to take out the dark beast. Zelda creates weak points, while Tetra and Sheik shoot them with Master Sword beams and light arrows, respectively. (Maybe Tetra DID die, but her health was restored by a fairy, or she’s at full health for some other reason.) So now Ganon is dead. Castle town is in shambles, and multiple people are dead, including the king. But don’t worry - Urbosa quickly makes herself the new parental figure of the triplets.
Hyrule is rebuilt. The people celebrate the defeat of the calamity, and the guardians are restored to their former abilities. Tetra becomes the new Champion of Hyrule Castle, wielding the Master Sword and the Sheikah Slate. For an extra happy ending, maybe she and Mipha formally become a couple. Sheik pioneers work on improving ancient and modern technology, showing a special interest in ways to reverse aging. After many years, Queen Zelda’s son, Daphnes Link Hyrule, becomes the ruler after her reign ends.
And so, the people of Hyrule live happily ever after.
... and 100 years later, Link wakes up.

I've been sitting on this theory for a little while now
I have a wacky theory.
I really like to read fanfics about the trio (Zelda, Link, and Gannon) and in most botw fanfic stories it's always that Gannon mysteriously is found after the beast is defeated and he is plagued by his curse even though he cant explain what it is. Most of the time he blames it on his family lineage.
I think all along Gannon wasn't dead in the first place and instead maybe his good and evil counterparts were split. His body is that of a monk's because his body the container cannot be destroyed, lest maybe demise really could run free. I speculate that the good part of himself is who is trying to keep his evil part subdued, which is the green hand in the trailer.
Possibly 10,000 years prior in the story, Gannondorf was a good person who didnt succumb to his curse. Maybe he was trying to lead the Gerudo like a true royal. Could the corpse (Gannon) be the red haired warrior in the legend art? Link doesnt have red hair which would explain the difference. Maybe the curse of demise couldnt be contained by Gannondorf any longer within himself and it manifested and he took the position to try and defeat his own curse.
Maybe if we suppose that the events of the Minish cap were happening at the same time that would also possibly explain why Link and his sword were not depicted on the original drawing. He was lost within a different adventure. ***
This could explain why calamity Gannon was able to wreck havoc again because Link's part of the triforce wasnt there to finish the job with the princess. The Sheikah were unveiling their work about when this happens. Botw doesnt explain how the calamity is born just that they knew that it was coming. It's probably that Gannondorf was feeling major warning signs that something was wrong or his curse was overpowering him and then everyone vaguely knew that it was going to wreak havoc.
Anyway, because calamity Gannon happened and he was created, this could explain why the sheikah technology failed 10,000 years later. The calamity being Gannon's other half had the knowledge of machinery and was able to formulate his own strategy. Maybe it wasnt just a mindless beast that just wanted strength to rule the realm. And remembered how the technology works.
Another point I like about the fanfics I read is how they tell Gannon's character to be a strong wizard who knows old spells. I think it would be cool if in a cut scene the evil corpse explains how he could make unimaginable things happen that Link and Zelda are 10,000 years too young to know of. Or maybe how in tune he is with things that normal people can't sense or see. I'd like to think before the events happened that he struggled internally with demise trying to weaken his spirit or ability to keep him at bay. For example like nightmares and unimaginable tragedies plaguing him.
---
In the trailer the way the events occur it looks as if either Link was attacked or he was being too curious and attracted or touched the green seal stuff. There is promotional art for botw of an older link and he has a missing arm.
*** I want to say that I'm not totally supporting what I'm speculating as to why link is missing, but its kind of fun to think that he was helping out somewhere else and then shit was hitting the fan while he was gone.
Since the trailer for botw 2 was shown I refined my theory about the red hero somewhat. Anyways, I can't wait to see what's right, maybe we play as Zelda or that it's going to be co-op. Whatever happens, it'll be a great game :D

The Midna in BotW AU that you did, Midna returns after another hundred years (another complication with the Mirror of Twilight) and she find Link, Riju and Zelda with Wolf Link, who goes in full doggo mode when he sees Midna again (I headcanon that when wolf Link is around, it's the spirit of the previous hero watching over the new).
Part 1 Here
Something had gone wrong. The link that the Twili mages had managed to reestablish with the world of light had turned out to be a fragile one, but now that they knew how to accomplish it, the task or recreating the bridge between worlds proved to be a simple one. Whereas the first connection had taken five years to engineer, this new one was completed in a matter of days. Of course, there was no telling how much time had passed for Hyrule during that time. With luck, it would have been just enough for the Calamity to have been dealt with.
Taking a deep breath, Midna stepped through the portal and into the light.
She was greeted with an eruption of sand and a terrible roar. Ruins dotted the desert around her as a massive beast leapt from the dunes and came crashing down again, pursuing or pursued by several women harnessed to what seemed to be some kind of tusked, sand dwelling mount. One of them, somewhat shorter than the rest and wearing a familiar helmet jumped from her steed, reaching out towards the beast with a single hand.
With a snap of her fingers, lighting splayed out from her outstretched hand and was sent coursing through the monster. Letting out a final rumble, the beast fell silent, its skin turning black as night before vanishing in a haze of smoke.
“That should be the last of the Moldulga,” the young warrior called to her companions. “With the Calamity gone, they shouldn’t be able to return to life as they had before.”
The largest of them stepped forward and lay a hand upon the smaller one’s shoulder in congratulations but, upon noticing Midna, pulled her behind her and raised a spear in defense. “Who are you and what business do you have in these parts? Speak.”
Midna spread her arms wide to show that she was unarmed and meant no ill will. “I am Midna, Princess of Twilight. You are Gerudo, yes? If you would send word to your chief, Urbosa, you will know the truth of my words. She and I are well acquainted though it has been some time since we last spoke.”
“Lies!” the larger one spat, but the smaller held up her hand.
“Buliara, please.” Removing her helm, the small warrior cautiously stepped from behind Buliara. “I’m afraid your words will not reach her, she’s been dead for over a century.”
“Chieftain, please,” Buliara pleaded. “She could be a Yiga spy.”
The chieftain scoffed. “And how many Yiga do you know with blue skin and hair more fiery than our own?”
Stunned, Midna mouthed the words to herself over and over until her voice finally found them. “A century… how can it have been that long? It only took three days to get the gateway functional again. There’s no way it could have been that long.”
Pushing past Buliara’s protests, the chieftain stepped forward. “I am Riju, chieftain of the Gerudo. You must forgive my Captain of the Guard, recent events have left her quite paranoid.”
Midna snapped out of her confusion. “Y-yes, of course. A pleasure to meet you, Lady Riju. You must forgive me, I must have been away longer than I thought.”
Riju grinned. “You are in luck, Princess. Tonight is the night of a great feast, a celebration of our success in routing the Moldulga from our sands.” As she said this, her chest swelled with pride. “With the Calamity gone, we’ve finally been able to take back our desert from Ganon’s horde. Please, join us.”
“Yes, I think that would be lovely.” Doing her best to ignore Buliara’s death glare, Midna walked beside the chieftain as they made their way towards the town in the distance.
The feast was held under the Seven Heroines and began as the sun sank to meet the desert sands. A large bonfire blazed in the center of the memorial and all around Hylian men and Gerudo women drank, danced and sang. With ever step and every note you could feel that these were people who had spent too much of their time living in fear and worry. Now, freed from both, they could not help but express their joy and excitement with every fiber of their being.
Midna sat to Riju’s right, enjoying simply watching the festivities and dining upon the wide variety of food that had been prepared. Even with all the merriment surrounding them, thoughts itched at the back of the Princess’s mind. Thoughts of the Champions she had befriended and the century she had missed.
“You speak as though the Calamity’s defeat is a recent one, and yet the Champions have been dead for over one hundred years,” Midna pondered out loud. “Why is that?”
“Because the Champions lost,” Riju replied. “Revali, Mipha, Daruk and even my grandmother, Urbosa. They all fell to the Calamity when it turned their own weapons against them. For a century all we could do was wait for Ganon to finally grow tired of Hyrule castle and come for the rest of us.”
Midna frowned. “But then how was he defeated? I know first hand of how powerful he can be, what stopped him from taking all of Hyrule from the start?”
Riju smiled. “Because not all of the Champions had been defeated as we first thought.”
Before Midna could ask what she meant, trumpets sounded.
“Ah, here they come now.” Riju pointed towards the edge of the circle. A pair of blue standards had appeared bearing the crest of Hyrule and a small honor guard of Sheikah approached, flanking two riders on horseback. “I suppose we’ll get to find out if you are who you say you are after all.”
Midna could only stare dumbfounded as the two figures dismounted and pulled back their hoods, revealing Zelda and Link. They looked almost exactly as she remembered them. Rising from her place at Riju’s side, Midna crossed the distance quickly.
The Sheikah initially moved to block Midna’s path but a surprised gasp and a dismissive motion from Zelda sent them back into the shadows.
“Midna? I thought we’d never meet again.”
“I had begun to think likewise, Princess.” Midna offered a respectful curtsy, as one Princess to another. “Given how much time I discovered had past since my last visit, it is remarkable to find you and your knight still in the prime of your youth.”
A shadow of grief flickered across Zelda’s face. “I would gladly trade away my youth if it meant regaining what we lost.”
“Excuse me,” Link said, brushing past the two of them and taking a seat on Riju’s left, the two of them beginning to chat joyfully.
“What happened?” Midna asked. Something about the knight’s behavior disturbed her.
“It’s simple, really,” Zelda began. “We lost. All of our faith had been put in the strength of our machines and achievements but in the end it was those same devices that proved to be our undoing. The Champions lay dead and even Link was nearly lost. Thankfully we had the technology to preserve and restore him but…”
Midna frowned, a glimmer of a memory echoing in her mind. “Something was lost.”
“Yes. The healing process worked wonders, brought him back from the brink of death. Hope was kept alive at the cost of all of his memories, everything he knew about his past life. About you, about me and about everyone he ever cared about.”
“I don’t think I could bear for him to look at me as you described,” Mipha’s words echoed in Midna’s mind. “To see me without knowing me.”
Midna pulled the distraught princess into an embrace. “I’m sorry. I can see you grew to care for him during your struggles and I know how much pain it must bring you for him to look upon you without really seeing you.”
Zelda took a deep breath and regained her composure. “It’s quite alright. He’s different now, of course. Perhaps even better. I suppose in some ways his memories may have been a burden, bringing with them a pressure to succeed. This version of him is more alive and full of wonder than the Link I knew and he seems better for it.” The princess smiled, a look of resolve entering her face. “Now, is this a party or isn’t it? I’m going to join in the festivities.” Pulling away from Midna she twirled into a group of dancers and joined them in their frantic movements.
The night grew older and most of the celebrants had settled into quieter enjoyment of food and drink, punctuated by short bursts of laughter. Feeling restless, Midna made her way away from the circle of light and found herself wandering just outside the crowd.
Sounds of quiet laughter and rapid footsteps across sand drew her attention and the Princess discovered Link with the Gerudo Chieftain together, playing with a large dog of some sort.
I suppose he always was a dog person, in this life or any other. Midna mused to herself. A breeze kicked up behind her, blowing towards the playful trio.
The dog froze in its tracks, turning slowly to face Midna. Cautiously, it took a few tentative steps towards her. It was bigger than Midna had first realized. More of a wolf than a dog.
As the silver moonlight caught the wolf’s face, Midna’s breath caught in her throat. Radiant beams reflected off the white markings upon the wolf’s brow, catching its brilliant blue eyes which shined as sapphires.
It couldn’t be…
A heartbeat passed between them and then the wolf was bounding forward, an anxious excitement rippling through its whole body. Midna collapsed to her knees and embraced it in her arms.
“My hero…” she whispered.
The wolf, Link, her Link, panted and whined and smothered Midna with his tongue. Tears welled in her eyes as she simply pulled the wolf further into her embrace.
“I thought I’d never see you again,” she whispered. “I’m so sorry, I never should have left.”
The other Link approached the two of them, Riju trailing slightly behind. “I uh… guess you two know each other?”
Blinking through the tears, Midna looked up and nodded. “He is a very dear friend, one I thought lost to me.”
“Well aren’t you just full of surprises,” Link said to the wolf, bending down and ruffling his canine ears.
Midna could hardly get the question out. “Please, tell me. How did you find him?”
Link shrugged his shoulders. “I’m not entirely sure. I remember waking up in the Shrine of Resurrection and he was just kind of there, waiting for me outside. Zelda thinks he may be some kind of guide or spirit animal sent by the Goddess, but I don’t know.”
“Would you mind if I spend some time with him?” Midna asked. “I think we have a lot of catching up to do.”
“That’s really up to him,” Link said with a grimace. “He kind of does what he wants.”
“Oh, I don’t think that will be a problem,” Midna said. She gazed down at the Wolf-Link. “I have a feeling he’s missed me just as much as I have him, if not more so.”
Wolf-Link simply wagged his tail in response.
The other Link straightened, clearly befuddled. “Well, I guess I’ll just leave you two to it then. It’s getting late anyway.” Riju took his arm and started guiding him back towards the festivities. “Make sure you take care of him,” Link called back over his shoulder. “And try not to spoil him too much, he might get an attitude.”
“Nothing I couldn’t handle,” Midna said, giving Wolf-Link a sly grin. “After all we’ve both put up with much worse from each other before.”
Wolf-Link let out a dog groan and gave her what could only be the closest thing he could manage to an “Are you kidding me?” look he could manage with his canine features.
They remained seated together for several hours until the dawn found them fast asleep, nestled against each other. For the first time in five years that had lasted countless millennia, Midna felt at peace.
