There's this stray cat that's been hanging around where my mom lives for a few years and he is the sweetest thing. He comes running and chirping for attention whenever he sees anybody and won't even eat until he's gotten his fill of pets. After the past two years of attempting to convince my mom to adopt him failed I finally brought him home because he clearly needs to be a pet.

He's adapted to indoor life wonderfully. But he's FIV+ so I'm very torn on if I'll be able to keep him (awaiting further guidance from new vet and trusted people in the field). And when I took him to the vet a few days ago they seem to have missed what I can now very clearly tell is a large sore in his mouth. He also seems either slightly incontinent or to have a UTI. So he has an appointment with a new vet on Monday and I am feeling very overwhelmed and want to cry.

But here's the boy for cat tax.

#i was expecting worms #i told myself I wouldnt even consider FIV because I always assume the worst and it never happens #so i wanted to stay positive and optimistic #and SOMEHOW he had no worms or even fleas #but he has FIV #and research on mixed status households is severely lacking #positive but minimal #and then the whole mouth situation #he STUNK when i brought him in and at first i assumed it was just him #but he still smelled after I bathed him (which he loved????) #so i thought maybe mouth or ears because he does have ear mites #well i finally got to clean his ears today and then noticed his mouth was bleeding #and when i called the vet to have them check the chart they said there was nothing written about oral health #i dont know how that was missed if a thorough exam was done #and ive not fully trusted this vet with anything more than the basics since I started going there #so this was the final straw #at least for this cat #if I can keep him #also... i expected some costs #but this cat has already cost me $200 and I wouldnt be surprised if bloodwork or urinalysis is run on Monday #on top of probably antibiotics #so thats stressful #and then im also panicking that what if the vet screwed up and hes FeLV+ because that seriously changes things #so now im afraid to go hang out in his room with him and the mouth and urine also make me really anxious #so when i do hang out with him im super on edge #im going to try anxiety meds when I go to my psychiatrist in two months... #i should try getting in sooner #personal

"do you-- understand?" a part of him worried the other would be upset at him pulling apart such a simple genuine gesture, he had to be honest, however. honesty was a thing of respect, after all.
