First Tattoos and Dates

Pairing: Joe Keery x Tattoo Artist!Reader

Words: 2300+

Author's Note: This is the Tattoo Shop AU and I find this concept to be absolutely adorable as f u c k. I hope everyone likes it. xox

Joe's POV

I swipe through my phone, seeing all the different tattoos that were presented in front of me. Maya sent me a link to her good friend's work after we had talked about me finally getting my first tattoo.

"Holy shit. They're really good," I whisper to myself as I tilt my phone, looking at the chest piece on the screen. Maya's picture pops up in the middle of my scrolling and I answer it immediately. "Hey."

"Damn. I didn't expect you to answer so quickly," her voice comes through the phone as she laughs lightly.

"I was looking at your friend's tattoo pieces when you called," I tell her and she lets out an ahhhh. "Yeah. I'm really considering calling the shop and booking an appointment."

"You definitely should. She actually takes walk-ins today from noon to three," Maya informs me and I lean back against my couch.

"Oh, god. I don't know if I'm ready to get it done that quickly," I chuckle nervously while combing my fingers through my hair.

Maya lets out a groan and I can just imagine her head tilted so far backward. "Oh, come on, Joe. You've been thinking about getting this done for what? About a month now? Get some balls and do it! I'll even drive you down there," she mentions and a sigh leaves my lips.

"Goddamnit. Fine, fine. I'll do it. Want me to meet me at your place or?" I ask and she tells me that she'll just pick me up at mine. "Alright. See you soon?"

"Yeah! Gather some courage in the meantime!"

My fingers tap my thighs as I sit in Maya's car. We're currently stopped at a stoplight that's about five minutes away from Y/N's shop and I'm beyond from being calm. It's not only because it's my first tattoo, but I've heard that she's incredibly gorgeous. I always end up being a fucking dork around pretty girls so… this should be fun.

"I can't believe you're so nervous right now," Maya laughs and I turn my head towards her, glaring a bit.

My attention goes back to the road in front of me as I speak up. "You know exactly why I'm nervous."

She laughs and tucks some hair behind her ear. "I told you she's cool and down to earth. There's nothing to be worried about," she reassures me and I nod slightly.

The vehicle pulls up to Body Art Tattoo and I let out a deep breath. "I got this, I got this," I whisper quietly enough to myself so Maya doesn't hear me.

We get out of the car and the sandy-brunette walks ahead of me. I swallow thickly, feeling my hands begin to get clammy. She opens the door for me and I walk through seeing quite a few people sitting around as there are three tattoo artists working on people.

"Damn. Walk-ins are a real hit this month," Maya mentions and I shove my hands into my pockets, following her as we head towards Y/N.

My eyes look over her after she takes a quick glance towards us. She smiles gently, giving a three-fingered wave as a tattoo gun is placed in her hand, the other one wiping down the tattoo on the man's thigh.

"Hey, Maya! Finally gonna let me tattoo you?" She asks with a chuckle, grinning ear to ear.

Aw. She's so cute, oh my god.

"Oh, God no," my friend laughs while shaking her hands. "Actually, my friend, Joe, here is planning to get his first tattoo."

Y/N's eyes move to me with an eyebrow raised. "Tattoo virgin, huh?" She asks with a smirk and I chuckle before nodding my head, scratching the back of my back.

"Y-Yeah," I stutter and press my lips together.

"Is he your last client or do you have more?" Maya asks and she shakes her head.

"I've got about ten minutes left of this one and then I'll need at least 5 minutes to sanitize everything before I'll be able to get to your cute friend," Y/N states and I'm a bit shocked at her sudden compliment.

She's very straight forward…

Y/N's POV

"Alright, and we're done!" I grin while squirting some water onto it before wiping it down with a paper towel. "It looks sick."

The guy I worked on sits up, looking down at the skull tattoo I did, smiling. "It does, holy shit. Thank you so much," he says and I get up from my chair, pulling my rubber gloves off my hands.

"It's no problem. It was a fun tattoo to do," I mention, grabbing some plastic wrap to wrap around it.

The beefy guy pays for the tattoo after I finished wrapping it, giving him his change before he walks out of the shop. I glance over towards Maya's friend, seeing him sitting in one of the chairs, eyes trained on his phone.

"Hey!" I call out, not knowing his name and his head picks up, his hair bouncing slightly. He's got such nice hair, oh my God. "Sorry, I didn't catch your name."

He stands up from his seat, quickly stepping towards me. "Sorry, I'm Joe, hi," he introduces himself.

I give him a smile. "Hi, Joe. I'm Y/N," I greet back and hold out my hand for him to shake. Joe takes my hand into his, shaking it for a few seconds before releasing it.

"Hi, Y/N. Maya's told me quite a bit about your work and I've gotta say… it's incredible," he compliments and I blush slightly.

"Thank you. It took quite a few years to get where I am," I mumble while cleaning up my area. "So, what did you plan on getting?" My eyes glance up at him as I prep a new needle.

Joe reaches into his pocket and pulls out a folded up piece of paper. He unfolds it before handing it towards me. "Something like this. I've been one with nature for the last year and I thought it'd be fitting and meaningful," he mumbles while I take it from his hands, analyzing the simple tree drawing.

"It's very simple and cute. I think it'll suit you well," I smile at the man and get up from my stool. "Where did you plan on getting it and do you want it the same size?"

"I think right here would be good?" He questions while rubbing the side of his forearm. I nod my head while heading towards the printer, getting a stencil made.

"That would be a nice spot for it," I tell him and grab the stencil and the piece of paper. I step back towards him, folding the picture he brought back up before handing it to him. "Alright. Have a seat and we'll get started." I smile and he nods, sitting down on the comfortable chair.

I grab a razor before turning back towards Joe as he rubs his hands repeatedly on his jeans. "Is it normal for a guy to be nervous about getting tattooed for the first time?" He quietly asks me, not wanting the others around to hear.

"Of course it is. Not every guy is a macho man. Honestly, if it makes you feel any better about getting this done… I find it cute that you're so nervous," I tell him with a wink and bites my lip.

"Really?" He asks as his cheeks blush a bit. I nod my head, grabbing his left arm to shave off the hair where I plan to put the stencil. "I-Woul-Can I take you out to dinner after you're done?"

My breath hitches in my throat as I glance up at him through my lashes, setting down the razor. "Are you serious? Me? Out of everyone here in LA and you wanna take me to dinner?" I ask him in disbelief, sitting back slightly.

"Yeah, you. Maya's told me some things and I think you're really chill and down to earth. I'd love to get to know you better," he mentions and I can't help but blush a bit. I position his arm on the armrest, having the newly shaved area facing me before pressing the stencil to his skin.

"I'd love too," I grin. Joe let's out a breathy laugh, a cute smile spreading across his face as I peel off the stencil, seeing the small tree outlined and I turn to put on some rubber gloves. "Ready?" I ask him while pressing my foot against the pedal, my tattoo gun beginning to vibrate.

His smile falls slightly as the nervousness begins to show. "Y-Yeah, let's do this," he mumbles and I nod.

"It shouldn't take too long," I reassure him and dip the needle into the black ink before going over the stenciled line. Joe twitches a bit as I drag the needle down the "trunk" of the tree. I quickly glance up to see an uncomfortable look on the cute man's face after I get to the bottom of the line. I gently wipe a paper towel over what I'd done, removing the excess ink on the skin before moving to the various size branches.

Joe let's out a huff of breath as I get through half the branches and I look up at him, pausing my actions. "No, no. You're fine. I just didn't know it'd be this uncomfortable," he chuckles and I smile.

"Well, you do have needles poking and dragging on your skin," I mention with a smirk while wiping his arm again. "I've got 13 more branches to do and you're done. Luckily you picked a quickie for your first time." I wink before getting back to work.

I dip my needle once again, dragging a thick line across his skin. I end up sticking my tongue out slightly, licking my lips as I concentrate on making my lines perfect. A chuckle rings out just as I finish my last line and I perk my head up, seeing Joe's honey-brown eyes trained on me.

"You're so cute when you're concentrating," he stumbles a bit and I bite my lip.

"Shut up," I laugh while shaking my head. I grab the bottle of water, squirting some over the tattoo before wiping it down with a new paper towel. "Voila! And you're no longer a tattoo virgin."

The brunette picks up his arm, rotating it to see what I've done and a smile comes to his lips. "I love it. It looks incredible," he compliments and I reach for the plastic wrap, covering the fresh ink so it doesn't get infected. "Thank you so much for this. How much do I owe you?"

"You're Maya’s friend, so it's on the house," I smile at him and he groans while shaking his head.

"No, no, come on. I wanna pay for your work," Joe mentions and I bite my lip. "Can I at least buy your dinner? To repay you in some way."

I let out a sigh as I cleaned up my station. "Hmm, I guess you can. As long as I can pay the next time we go out," I negotiate with a smirk.

"Next time?" He asks and I feel my heart drop a little, wondering if I said too much. You don't even know if he would want to go out again, idiot.

"I-I mean," I stutter and stand up from my chair, tossing the garbage into the bin, "that is if you want to after tonight."

Joe smiles softly and runs a hand through his hair. "I'm sure I'd love to see you again."

I was laughing so hard to the point of holding my stomach, having a hard time breathing as the two of us exchange stupid jokes. We stepped out of his car after he drove me home, walking up to my front door with him. He actually had to call one of his friends to see if they’d bring his car to the shop since Maya was the one that brought him there. Luckily it worked out and his friends were there in no time.

Joe's laughter halts and smiles down at me as I wipe my tears away. "Jesus, that was a good one," I giggle while tucking a strand of hair behind my ear. "Thank you, by the way, for driving me home. I totally forgot I got a ride with my coworker this morning."

"It's no trouble. What kind of date would I be if I didn't make sure you got home safe," he tells me as our bodies gravitate towards one another.

"The kind of date I'm used to, unfortunately," I mumble bitterly and he frowns. "It's okay. I'm just- I'm glad you're different."

The handsome man gives me a small smile and brings his hand up to my face. "You deserve so much better than that, and I'll be glad to give it to you," Joe mentions and my heart soars.

"I'd like that," I whisper and my breath hitches as our noses touch. My eyes slowly close as his thumb strokes my cheekbone. He leans down, pressing his lips to mine in a soft kiss, our lips barely touching.

Joe pulls away after a few seconds and my heart pounds against my chest. "I'll call you?" He whispers against my lips and I nod gingerly.

"Goodnight, Joe."

"Goodnight, Y/N," the brown-haired man smiles and kisses my cheek before jogging towards his vehicle.

I give him a wave as he backs out of my driveway, driving away into the night and my cheeks heat up from thinking about the kiss that just happened. "Maya's gonna lose her mind when she hears about this," I chuckle while unlocking my door before heading into the house with a huge grin on my lips.

SUMMARY:Y/N was looking for a change in her life. so she moved to Korea with her best friends. She was a makeup artist and her friend, while taking all her makeup photos, put together a portfolio and sent it to Big Hit. Where Hoseok saw her and just had to make her his.

Will he make it happen?

Y/N POV

You woke up at 8:30 just to make sure you would have enough time to get ready to meet the boys. Your heart was beating fast and you were shaking with nerves. But nonetheless you still started getting ready deciding that you would do some simple makeup. A soft glam with pinks and red to make your face look warm and like you're not slowly panicking on the inside. One you were satisfied with your look you started on your hair deciding it was best to add some light curls to keep it simple. Heading to the closet to put on your new outfit. It was a simple white long sleeve button up shirt and a black skirt that stopped just above your knees and you added a clear pink belt with a heart on it just to add some color.

"Okay I think this is as good and simple as we can get."

Looking up at the clock you noticed it was 9:25 so u decided you would head out for the day since it only took you 30minutes to get to Big Hit you decided the extra 5 minutes would be spent calming your nerves so you would make a fool of yourself. After all you were only meeting the boys, maybe handing out a little bit then coming home. Simple. Easy.

Right?

Hoseok POV

"Come on Namjoon~ this is a easy move to do, you won't mess up"

Hoseok was trying to show Namjoon a new move he had saw from a random dance video he was watching and was determined to show somebody how to do it

"No hoseok I'm tired we just did an entire concert rehearsal how are you not even a little tired?"

"Fine Namjoon be that way. Have fun being lazy."

Y/N POV

Walking back into Big Hit did nothing but bring back all the nerves you thought were gone. As soon as you reached the front desk Mr.Bang walked up to you and greeted you.

"Y/n! I'm glad to see you here finally. How are you?"

"I'm fine Mr.Bang how are you?"

"Beautiful! Let's head up to the practice room, the boys are getting ready for an upcoming concert in 3 months. I hope you like flying because you will be there as well."

"Flying? Yes, I'm okay with flying, it's not so bad I guess."

"Great that's good to hear y/n!"

As you were following Mr. Bang to the practice room you started to try and calm down.

Don't worry y/n it won't be as bad to meet them as you think. You're their makeup artist after all. This is just the first step to getting to know the boys.

"Y/n we're here are you ready to go in?"

Looking into the glass on the door you could see everyone going over choreography. Your eyes instantly land on Hoseok as your heart picks up in pace. Taking a deep breath you open the door to the practice room, walking in you swear everyone could hear your heart beating. But before you could even do anything else Mr.Bang starts to speak.

"Boys I need your attention for a moment I want you all to meet your new makeup artist y/n."

As soon as he calls for their attention they all stop and turn to look at you. At first they don't say anything then Yoongi speaks up first.

"Hello y/n it's nice to meet you I'm Suga but you can call me Yoongi if you like."

Not sure what else to say you just take a small bow and start to introduce yourself

"Oh hello guys my name is y/n and I will be your new makeup artist so please take care of me. Also there is no need to introduce yourselves. I already know who you all are. I am actually a new fan of you guys."

Once you introduce yourself you start to look at everyone and notice that Hoseok is looking at you as if he is trying to read your every move. You soon start to stare back at him but for some reason you can't seem to focus on anything else because all you can see is the sweat dripping off of him from all the dancing and the heat in the room. Your eyes travel up to his lips and now all you can think about is what it would be like to kiss him and get even just a small taste. But you are soon snapped out of your dreaming when you hear Namjoon call your name

"So Y/n how long have you been doing makeup?"

"Oh I uhm... I have been doing makeup for about 2 years now."

"Oh that's great well I'm glad that you will be joining our team and we all look forward to getting to know you."

"Oh well thank you Rm, I look forward to getting to know you all as well."

"Please call me Namjoon."

"Okay I will, also thank you all for taking time out of your practice to meet with me."

Just as Namjoon opened his mouth to say something he was quickly cut off by Hoseok reaching his hand out to shake yours.

"Don't worry Y/n we all needed a small break from all the practice anyway, thank you for coming to meet with us. Just as Namjoon said I can't wait to get to know you. All of you."

Looking at Hoseok's hand in complete shock at what he had just said. He took his hand in yours and took a small breath before looking up at him. He was looking into your eyes with a small smirk on his face. You could have sworn your knees went weak just from the way he was looking at you. You quickly pulled your hand back to your side and looked around at the other members to see that they were all looking at him with confused looks at what he had just said.

"Uhm well it was nice meeting you all and I'm glad I could give you all a small break but I should get back my friend and I had plans for the day."

Suddenly Mr. Bang started speaking and you forgot he was there so once he said something you jumped a little.

"Oh yes of course Y/n I don't want to hold you from your activities from the day we will see you next week when you start. Here let me walk you out."

Looking back one more time you could see that all the other members went back to what they were doing before. All except Hoseok who was still looking at you with the same look when he was holding your hand. You quickly looked back forward to get out of the building before your heart burst to flames from the way he was looking at you.

Jimin POV

"Hey Hyung, what was with that comment you made to the new stylist?"

Hoseok turned around and looked at you with a confused look but you knew that he knew exactly what you were talking about.

"Come all Hyung we all heard what you said to her. You didn't exactly say it quietly. What was with that?"

"Jimin, what are you talking about? All I did was tell her that we look forward to getting to know her. What's wrong with that."

"Mm.. well keep yourself under control then will you? We all know that look you were giving her. And how you were looking her up and down. You basically undressed the girl with your eyes and with the way she looked at you I'm sure she could see it too Hyung. Don't go scaring her off."

Hoseok POV

Well was it that obvious that I was staring at her? Did she really notice me looking at her? I mean, Jimin isn't wrong. I was undressing her with my eyes but I couldn't help but look at her with the way her skirt fit her body so well and how her hair fell into her face. And those lips. Oh what I would do to have them wrapped around my......

"Yeah! Hoseok come on stop day dreaming we need to be ready for this concert get your ass over here."

"Oh sorry I'm coming Jin."

Y/n POV

"No you guys I'm telling you he was looking at me as he was going to jump me at any given second!"

"Y/n I'm pretty sure you were just imagining things. Are you sure you just didn’t imagine it?"

Ant looked at me as if I was crazy. But I just didn't understand why they didn't believe me.

"No Ant I'm telling you, you weren't there! You should have heard what he said to me when he shook my hand! Yeah! Cheyenne you believe me right?"

Cheyenne was too busy on her phone and eating to be paying attention to the conversation happening around her.

"I'm sorry what did you say?"

"Guys... listen to me yeah! I just said Hoseok shook my hand and he told me... and I quote "I can't wait to get to know you.. ALL OF YOU.." I'm telling you I'm not making this up! Even all the others were looking at him weird."

Both of my friends just looked at each other as if I was crazy and I could see they didn't believe me. Then Cheyenne looked from Ant then looked at me and stood up.

"Y/n don't think about it too much. I'm pretty sure you are just taking what he said in a wrong way. After all he is your bias, maybe you're thinking too hard into this yeah? Come sit down and eat something, you haven't even touched your food."

I couldn't do anything but look at them both, maybe I was reading too far into it. Maybe Cheyenne and Ant are right. Either way I won't know what he meant by it so I should just move on. Until Monday... when I see him again... when I actually have to get close to him and do his makeup. Until then I need to figure out what to wear.

How Do We Get Back (1/16) - schitt’s creek ff

Summary: In a literal alternate universe where the Roses escaped financial ruin, David and Patrick struggle with loneliness and a sense that something isn’t right. A chance meeting in New York and a terrible tragedy drive them to question whether the timeline they are on is the right one.

Soft music played from somewhere, infused into the space like just the right amount of an expensive perfume: not enough to draw attention to itself, but enough to help round out the aesthetic with taste and class. The white walls positively glowed under warm, carefully selected lighting, offering a contrast to the pieces on offer to buyers. Minimalist and spare, every item was lovingly placed by the owner in exactly the perfect spot to highlight its assets and mask its flaws. It was why buyers went out of their way to come here, or so the proprietor had been told in more prosperous days.

“Tell me about this sculpture,” said a woman in a severe suit and a severe haircut and impossibly high heels.

David Rose, the gallerist she was addressing, put his hands together in an obsequious manner and walked over to stand at her side. Her command had come without the courtesy of turning and looking at him; rather with the expectation that she would get a prompt response — she was the kind of woman who always got a prompt response.

“This is another exciting piece by Devonaé Streeter. She works out of New York now, but after a few months in Prague—”

“I don’t want to hear about the artist. Tell me about the work.”

David squinted an eye at the bronze sculpture, standing its solitary vigil on a white pedestal. He imagined the… woman? it depicted was looking back at him, or would have been if she had more than empty eye sockets to look at him with. He launched into his patter.

“Devonaé’s bronze works often challenge the viewer to look past the grotesque features of the art to see the grotesque features in themselves. This particular figure is an allegory for the way in which we fail to recognize each other’s pain, and I think—”

The woman turned on her heel and walked away, dismissing him and the statue with one quick wave of her hand. She turned her attention to the art on the walls, scanning over the canvasses quickly. David could almost see the calculations going on behind her eyes, like a scrolling ticker on a cable business news show. She wasn’t here to appreciate the art, she was here to find something to invest in. Most of them were, especially people like her.

“Tell me about that one,” she said, pointing to the largest canvas.

David winced. He would have taken the painting in question down a while ago, or perhaps never would have hung it in the first place, if he weren’t hurting a little bit for artists these days. And of course if he hadn’t signed a contract. He’d met Carmen at a party, and okay yes, she’d seemed a little crazy at the time but he’d assumed that was because of all the drugs they were taking. He’d agreed to display her art in his gallery. Now, months later, not a single one of the paintings had ever sold.

Clearing his throat, David said, “Carmen Herrera. She has a… unique vision, as you can see from this piece.” He focused on the track lighting above the painting as he talked; he’d never been able to look at this piece without developing an anxious flutter in his stomach. “It is intended to shock, of course. The worshippers…” He let his eyes glance over the blood-soaked imagery, wondering why he was bothering. This woman was never going to buy one of Carmen’s paintings. “The worshippers hurt themselves and each other at the behest of their goddess.” He gestured vaguely upward.

“Mictēcacihuātl,” the woman murmured.

“Umm… bless you?”

“The Aztec goddess of death,” she explained, still staring at the painting.

“Oh, uhh, yes exactly,” he vamped. “Personally, I’ve always thought the worshippers represent the American electorate, voting against their own self interest because of the lies politicians tell them.” He didn’t really think that. He wasn’t sure Carmen could have said, if pressed, who the President of the United States even was. But he gave potential buyers this line, figuring they might recoil a little less from the painting if they thought it was allegorical.

The sharp-suited woman couldn’t seem to take her eyes off of it. “No, I don’t think that’s what it’s about,” she said. Then she turned to him. “I’ll take it.”

David gaped at her for a second before he recovered enough to respond. “Yes, of course.”

After several minutes of dealing with the payment and shipping, tasks that always made David’s palms sweat with anxiety that he’d screw up some detail of the transaction, the woman was gone and the gallery was quiet as a tomb — its usual state. David sighed and looked up at Carmen’s terrifying painting. “See you never, you creepy fucker.”

He walked back into his office and pulled out his phone. Opening Instagram, David scrolled aimlessly through posts by celebrities and influencers, many of whom he had met and a few of whom he had fucked. When no images of his sister appeared after a few minutes of scrolling, he pulled up her profile and checked her last post — two days ago, which was very unlike Alexis. David’s heart started to hammer in his chest with familiar worry for his sister. He checked the time and counted forward. It would be close to midnight in Italy, probably as good a time as any to catch her on her phone.

Hey r u ok? he texted, and then spent a full minute watching for any sign of a return message before he clicked off the screen and tossed the phone onto his desk with a huff. Then when that dramatic gesture didn’t give him a result, he picked his phone up again, just in time for it to vibrate with an incoming call. He almost dropped it.

Seeing who was calling, David almost let it go unanswered, but at the last second he tapped the screen. “Hi, Dad.”

“David, how are you?” His father’s voice was always confident and booming, as if he could summon happiness if he just projected from his diaphragm. David held the phone away from his ear with a wince, and then put it on speaker before setting it down.

“Fine. Why are you calling me?”

“Do I need a reason to call my only son?”

David rolled his eyes. “Yes.”

There was a pause. “Well, actually, I just heard that Eli was released from prison.”

Pulling a nail file out of his desk drawer, David snorted. “What, and you’re going to rehire him as your business manager?”

“Well, of course not, David.”

“Good.”

“I’m never going to speak to him again.”

“Good.”

“I mean, can you imagine how our lives might have turned out if he’d managed to get on that plane to the Cayman Islands before the police caught him?”

“Yes, I can, because you’ve mentioned it an average of once a month for the last three years,” David said, taking a few desultory swipes across the end of the nail on his middle finger.

“I mean, it was bad enough with all the tax penalties we had to pay. If it weren’t for Eli, we’d still have the beach house!”

“Uh huh.” If David had heard all of this before once, he’d heard it a hundred times. “Where’s Mom?”

“She’s on location with Sharknado 5. And you know, the prison that jackass was in was pretty swanky.”

“Then maybe Eli will actually be more miserable now that he’s been released. When does Mom get back?”

“Two more weeks. She’s got her phone in Bulgaria; you can call her.”

David didn’t want to call her. He wanted his father to call her so that she could talk him off of this angry ledge before he had another scare with his heart.

“Just… don’t worry about Eli, okay?” David set the nail file down and pinched the bridge of his nose. “He’s not a part of your life anymore.”

“Damn straight he’s not.”

“Weren’t you telling me something about a new business venture at Christmas? Some kind of app?” David didn’t want to talk about this, or about anything really, but he figured he could at least try to pull his father out of this emotional tailspin about the former business manager who almost made off with the Rose family fortune.

“Yes, well, the spouting video market is quite crowded now, of course, but we’re making some in-roads. Slow and steady wins the race, that’s what I always say.”

“It’s streaming video. And that’s what you used to say about your rivalry with Blockbuster,” David snarked, his moment of charitability toward his father difficult to keep front of mind when he was being so irritating.

“And Blockbuster went out of business.”

“So did you!”

“It was a strategic restructuring, David. A shift into other markets. Like streaming video. Sure, the money isn’t flowing as freely as it did in the Rose Video heyday, but we’re doing fine.”

“Okay.” He went back to filing his nails.

“Are you still seeing… what was her name?” Johnny asked.

Trying to remember who his dad was even talking about, David squinted. “Who?”

“You know, the girl who used to eat garbage as performance art?”

David huffed. “Eliose didn’t eat garbage, she covered herself in… you know what, it doesn’t matter. We haven’t seen each other in months.”

“Oh. Is there anyone special in your life right now?”

An image of Brenton flashed in his mind. He was probably back in David’s apartment as they spoke, making the place reek of bong water and eating all of David’s food. He sighed. “No, no one special.”

“Well, don’t give up, son,” Johnny said. “How’s the gallery?”

“I just sold a painting.”

“That’s great!” his father boomed. “Good for you!”

“Okay, selling paintings is my job, you don’t have to praise me quite so effusively for doing my job.”

“No, of course I don’t need to. But I’m proud of you, son. Especially now that…” There was a moment of dead air.

“You still there?” David asked.

“Oh! Yes, I’m still here.”

“I thought the call had dropped. Now that what?”

An uncomfortable chuckle came out of the phone speaker. “You know, I forgot what I was saying.”

“Uhhh… okay.” David rolled his eyes again. “Anyway, the art business isn’t booming like it used to be, but today was good.”

“You know what? I just remembered I need to make another call,” his father said. “Sorry, David.”

“Whatever. You called me.”

“Talk to you soon, son.”

“Mm-hmm. Bye.” David tapped the screen and ended the call. He noticed the time and sighed, glancing out of his office door at the empty gallery. He might as well lock up and go back to his apartment. He moved quietly around the space, flipping off all of the lights and turning off the music that he played from a spare iPad that he’d gotten in a gift bag when he was Hayden Panettiere’s date to the 2012 Teen Choice Awards. Once he had his coat and messenger bag and had the security gate pulled down and locked, David pocketed his keys and stepped out onto the busy SoHo sidewalk. It had been misting rain for hours, the January day not cold enough to produce snow, but the temperature was now dropping below freezing and making the sidewalks treacherous.

The stationary store next door to his gallery was still open and doing a brisk business, and he was tempted to go in and look at the journals, but he resisted the impulse. Even though he used them sporadically, he’d already bought more empty journals than he could fill in a lifetime. The bar at the end of the block was also starting to fill up, and while he’d been known to get a drink there after closing the gallery, he wasn’t in the mood to be around people at the moment. Pulling his phone out of his pocket, he summoned an Uber to ferry him the two miles to his apartment in Chelsea.

Braulio is 4 minutes away, his phone told him. While he waited, he texted Alexis again. Can you respond pls???

“Want me to talk or not talk?” his Uber driver asked as soon as David was settled into the back seat of the black Nissan.

“Don’t talk, please,” he responded. “Sorry.”

“Hey, no worries, man. That’s why I ask.” Braulio turned up his music a couple of clicks, the kind of unobjectionable, nondescript soundscape that was like something you’d hear in a modern hotel lobby. The driver had probably read on a website that it was the key to increasing tips or 5-star ratings.

David’s block on West 21st Street was packed with four and five-story apartment buildings, the short trees at regular intervals along the sidewalk offering a tiny break from the monotony of sandstone and concrete — although not this time of year, when they stuck up like twigs haphazardly shoved into the dirt by a giant, bored child. Shivering in his too-thin but fashionable jacket, he clicked on a rating for his Uber driver and shoved his phone in his pocket before making his way over to the short flight of stairs that led up to his building.

“Spare change,” a familiar voice called from a heap of blankets at the base of the building.

David opened his messenger bag and fished for the coins at the bottom. “It’s getting cold; you need to go to a shelter.”

“Not that cold,” the woman countered, holding her dingy Starbucks cup aloft. He dropped the coins in.

“The temperature’s dropping though.”

“Cold enough to ice skate.”

He took the non-sequitur in stride. “Well, not quite, but almost.”

“Your skates have to stay on the right line, ya know. You slip off and then suddenly—” She hit the cup, making the coins rattle. “Different universe.”

“Uh-huh. Will you go to a shelter, please? Don’t stay out here all night.” He re-clipped his bag and turned to walk away.

“You’re not supposed to be here, Mister Rose.”

“Well, I live here.”

“Not supposed to. Supposed to live in a motel with your family.”

David stopped and turned around. “What? Ew.”

“Rosebud,” she murmured.

“Oh, are we in Citizen Kane now?”

She hunkered down in her blankets, putting an end to what could only loosely be termed a conversation. Sighing, David left the homeless woman behind and entered the building’s vestibule. He then unlocked the inner door, shoving his way in with a grunt when the door inevitably stuck a little bit.

He mounted the one flight of stairs to his apartment. At the height of his family’s wealth, when David had been in his late twenties, he’d lived in a very posh apartment on the upper east side, but after the incident with his father’s business manager, he’d downgraded and moved to Chelsea. It was still a very nice, modern apartment, but it wasn’t what he’d once had.

The scent of sandlewood incense greeted him as he unlocked his door, and he wrinkled his nose and recoiled a little. Dropping his bag, he made his way to the kitchen and opened the refrigerator, hoping to find his leftovers from last night’s take-out. Of course they were gone. He slammed the refrigerator and swung around, ready to have it out with Brenton once and for all.

The man in question chose that moment to stride into the kitchen, shirtless, a pair of athletic shorts slung low on his waist. “Hey,” Brenton said. “Glad you’re here, we need to talk.”

“Yeah, we sure do.” David tried not to let his eyes drift down to the v-shaped crease of Brenton’s hips and failed.

“I’m gonna go stay with my boyfriend in LA for a while, so…” He shrugged. “Thanks for everything.”

“I’m sorry, your what? You never mentioned a boyfriend before,” David said, grimacing. He’d met Brenton last month at a cocktail party he’d thrown at the gallery. Young and blond and in his mid-twenties, Brenton was the son of a well-known hedge fund manager, and he seemed to be a guy whose sole occupation was drifting from one party to another, looking for a good time. He and David had hooked up several times in recent weeks, but their conversations had been limited to fashion and art world trends and what kind of sex they were into.

“Because we weren’t like that, you and me,” Brenton said with a disarming smile. “This was never about, you know, unpacking our pasts. And we never said we were exclusive.”

“I know that,” David snapped. “I didn’t say I expected exclusivity. Still, you might have mentioned—”

“He and I were figuring some things out, you know? But he’s gone out there for pilot season and the auditions are stressful, so I think I really just need to be there for him.”

“Oh, he’s an actor,” David said. “How fun for you.”

There wasn’t really much more to say, so after a few more empty platitudes from Brenton, he disappeared into David’s bedroom to get dressed and to gather whatever belongings he’d brought over in the course of their month-long affair. David sat at the kitchen island and flipped through an issue of Vogue without seeing the pages. He probed a little bit at his feelings, pressing against them like you’d touch a bruise, trying to determine how painful it was. He didn’t really care that much about Brenton — he was shallow and mostly unkind. David didn’t think he’d miss him. What did hurt was once again being shoved aside as soon as something better came along, after a lifetime of being shoved aside as soon as something better came along.

Once Brenton was gone, David tried cracking open a window to air out the apartment, but quickly closed it when it let in a biting cold wind. He was starting to get a headache, and he reached up to massage the back of his neck, trying to stave it off. Pulling out his phone, he checked Alexis’ instagram again, and then opened his messaging app.

[David] 911. Call me.

Surprisingly, his phone rang only a few seconds later.

“David, what? What’s the emergency?” Alexis sounded manic and not a little annoyed.

“I’ve been texting you all evening!” he almost shouted. “I’m sorry for worrying that you were dead.”

“I’m fine, why would I be dead?”

“Your social’s been dark for days.”

“Ugh. I’ve just been busy, David, I don’t have to post something every day as proof of life, do I?”

“You have to at least respond to my texts, Alexis.”

“Look, the club we were in might’ve gotten raided by police earlier, a little bit, but it’s fine because we found a back way out and we ran. It’s no big deal.”

“It kind of sounds like a big deal,” David said, rubbing his neck again. The headache was getting worse; the muscles running down from his skull were like iron rods. “Why were the police raiding the club?”

“How should I know what the Monaco police were doing?” she asked.

“Monaco? I thought you were in Italy.”

Alexis laughed. “Monaco is in Italy, David.”

“Monaco is a separate country, Alexis.”

“No, it’s… is it? Well anyway, Tiff and Lily and I are back at the hotel. I might come home, though. Stavros called and he wants to see me.”

David moaned unhappily. “Alexis, no, don’t go see Stavros. You’ll end up getting back together with him and that would be a terrible life choice.”

“Speaking of terrible life choices, is that Brett guy still crashing at your place?”

“It’s Brenton, and we were seeing each other, he wasn’t just ‘crashing’ here.”

“Mm-hmm.”

“And it’s over anyway.”

“Oh.” Her voice softened for the first time. “I’m sorry, David.”

He waved his hand, not that she could see him. “It doesn’t matter. I didn’t like him that much. He was just really hot.” He looked around the quiet, empty apartment. “You could stay here for a while, if you want.” Alexis was a chaos engine, but he also kind of missed her. Her whirlwind life would keep him from thinking about his own sad existence as much.

“Ew, what? Why? I’ve got way more space at Mom and Dad’s, and when I want to stay in the city, Klair lets me stay at the apartment with her stepmom. Who’s actually really cool, although she takes way too many pills.”

“Fine, whatever. Far be it from me to come between you and Klair’s stepmom.” He fluttered his hand again.

“Okay, don’t be like that. See, David, I know how you are. You’re lonely right now and you think you miss me, but you’d be sick of me the second I set foot through your doorway. You’d complain that I was too messy and that my friends were too loud and that I hadn’t used a coaster for my water glass.”

“Well, if you’d use a coaster—”

“David, it’s 3 a.m. here and you’re lecturing me about a hypothetical coaster. I’m gonna get some sleep now, okay?”

“Fine.”

“Go to Mom and Dad’s if you’re lonely,” Alexis said.

“I’m not lonely.”

“Goodnight, David.”

“Goodnight, Alexis.”

One Night (Or Possibly the Rest of Our Lives) 🎨🏨

Chapter 5: I Love You

❝Love is scary and Jimin and Jungkook aren’t sure what to do.❞

After stopping to get food, the ride back home was pleasant and filled with small talk. Jungkook asked Jimin about his family and watching the omega light up made his day.

“I love my parents. I miss them a lot. They still live back in Busan.” Jimin stated.

“Oh, you’re from Busan?” Jungkook asked, glancing over at the raven-haired man. “I am too.”

Jimin grinned at that. “That’s awesome. Does your family still live there?” He asked in return.

Jungkook shook his head. “No, they moved to Incheon, it’s where my step dad is from.”

The younger man nodded. “My family still lives in my childhood home. My older brother moved out a year before he graduated college and now he’s married, and they have a little boy. Then I left when I got accepted in to school. My mom was sad to see me go. I was sad too and nervous. Ya know, coming to a new city all by myself. She often asks me to visit, and I always tell her I promise to when I have the money. She says she’ll pay but I always tell her I can’t take her money. They need it.”

Jungkook watched Jimin let out a sigh and look out the window. “We can go soon. Maybe for your winter break.” He told the brunette. “I can tell just how much you miss her and home. I’ll take you. That is, if you don’t mind me coming along. If not, I’ll send you to visit her. Whichever is fine.”

Jimin turned towards the doctor with a big smile on his face. “Really?” He asked. “Oh, I would love that. And you have to come along. My mom would love you. And she would be very understanding of our situation.”

Jungkook chuckled. “That’s settle then, we’ll head down for winter break.”

“You are honestly too good to be true. How?”

The older man just shrugged. “I just try to be a good person.”

“Don’t be so modest. I think you’re a great person. Anyone would be lucky to have you. I’m lucky to have you.”

Jungkook’s alpha preened at the praise. He glanced over at Jimin and smiled. “Thank you, that means a lot.” Jimin returned the smile, genuine with his words.

A few days later, Jimin had found himself sitting on his bed trying not to have a mental breakdown. He had never felt more stressed out. Between his lousy job, his school work piling up (finals were this week, why he decided to take summer classes he’ll never know), and Jungkook, he was sure he was going to go insane. It’s not that Jungkook was stressing out. That wasn’t the case at all. Jungkook was such a big help with everything. It was his feelings for Jungkook that were stressing him out. He was sure at this point that he had fallen head over heels for the doctor. But he was more than certain Jungkook didn’t feel the same. Why would he? They were so different.

Jungkook had been nothing but sweet to him since the day they met. More so since they’re encounter with Ilhoon. Hell, Jungkook fought for Jimin, like any good alpha –good mate. If the brunette wasn’t in love with him before, he definitely was now. He took such good care of him, promised to take him to see his family. He did so much for Jimin without asking or even expecting anything in return. How can one man be so damn perfect?

Idea of having a family with the raven made Jimin’s heart fluttered. However ,he knew that wouldn’t happen. Jimin wasn’t the kind of guy Jungkook would fall in love with. Even though Jungkook was everything Jimin had ever dreamed of. He let out choked sobbed now, thinking that after he gave birth Jungkook would probably want nothing to do with him. He hoped that he’d at least want to keep their baby so he had a better life than what Jimin was living before this.

Jimin pulled his knees to his chest, sitting alone on the bed to the guest bedroom he had be staying in for just over two months. He had taken him only two months to fall in love. He looked down at his tummy with a smile. He was two and a half months along but he was only barely showing, flat stomach now much softer. He rested his hands on his tummy, feeling a tear hit his hand. He let out a shaky sigh but just kept staring at his stomach.

Jungkook was making Jimin lunch, knowing he was going to be hungry. He had cooked up some chicken and rice, grabbing a big bowl and filling it up for the brunette. He smiled to himself. He loved the idea of catering to Jimin and his pup. He loved taking care of him. Jungkook never realized how he felt about having someone with him until Jimin came along. He knows it was odd, the way their situation came about. But he wouldn’t change it for the world. It was then he was beginning to realize something.

If Jimin were to leave he’d be devastated. Not only because he’s the...well the mother of his pup. But because he’s come to care so much for the other man. In fact, Jungkook was pretty sure he had begun to fall in love with him. After their unfortunate encounter with Jimin’s ex, seeing that this man had intentions of hurting Jimin, Jungkook’s alpha instinct had hit him full force. The thought that someone like that could try to take Jimin away from him made him want to hold on to the younger man even tighter.

But he wasn’t sure what to do with this realization though. Should he act on it? Tell Jimin how he feels? Jungkook didn’t know how he would take it. But he was certain he couldn’t keep this to himself.

Jungkook grabbed a bottle of water and a spoon, carrying everything upstairs. He walked to Jimin’s room and knocked before opened the door. “Hey, Jimin-ah, I hope you’re hungry. Well I’m sure you are. But I have your lunch.” He said as he walked in. But he noticed Jimin was sitting on the bed holding himself. He could tell something was wrong. He sat the bowl and water on the side table before sitting down next to Jimin. “Hey, what’s wrong?” He asked, wrapping an arm around Jimin’s shoulders. He noticed the brunette crying now and he hated that.

“I-I can’t…I can’t tell y-you.” He managed to say. “It’ll make everything a-awkward between u-us.”

Jungkook frowned. “Jimin, please. I want to know why you’re crying. Please tell me.”

The omega shook his head. “It’ll ruin e-everything thought…”

Jungkook pulled Jimin closer. “Please, I need to know why you’re hurting.” He almost begged.

Jimin knew he had to tell Jungkook. Even if the outcome was going to be horrible. He had to. He started sobbing now. “I’m hurting be-because I love you b-but you don’t love m-me back and when our p-pup is born y-you’re just gonna leave m-me ‘cause people like y-you don’t fall in love w-with people like me.” The brunette managed to say. He buried his face in to his hands now, afraid to see or even hear Jungkook’s reaction.

The taller man blinked a few times before he pulled Jimin in to his lap. “Oh Jimin,” He began. “You’re so wrong. I do love you. I just realized it today. It took me longer than it probably should have. I think I started falling for you the day I met you. The day we made this wonderful miracle in your tummy. Please don’t cry anymore. You have no reason too because I love you back, just as much as you love me.”

Jimin looked up at Jungkook through his tears. “But h-how? How can you l-love me?” He asked. “We’re nothing alike.”

Jungkook shook his head. “And I don’t care. I love you for who you are. You’re so real and genuine, Jimin. You’re sweet, easy going, and artistic. And beautiful. And you are so easy to love.” He answered. “This is why and how I love you. You are amazing and I’m so glad we found each other.”

Jimin buried his face in to Jungkook’s just, crying again. “I’m so glad you love me back, I don’t know what I would have done if you rejected me.” He murmured. Jungkook wrapped his arms around the brunette, cooing softly to him.

“I can understand you were scared, and probably still are. But baby, I’m here and I’m not going anywhere. For one, my wolf won’t allow it. He was in love with you from the day we met.” He assured and the omega chuckled at that. “Will you be my boyfriend, Jimin?” He asked.

Jimin smiled and nodded. “Of course.” He answered. Jungkook grinned at that.

“No more tears,” He pulled back a bit and wiped Jimin’s tears away. “I want you to eat.” He reached over and grabbed the bowl. Jimin shifted in Jungkook’s lap to get comfortable before taking the bowl from him.

“Thank you,” He said, taking a spoonful. “Ooh this is yummy. I really like this.”

Jungkook smiled. “Good I’m glad. There are a few things I know how to cook.” He chuckled. He reached for the remote and turned on the TV, holding on to Jimin as he moved back against the headboard.

“I love this,” Jimin stated. “Cuddling as a couple.”

Jungkook kissed Jimin’s hair. “I love it too. I’m glad we can finally do it.”

“God, I was stressing so much about whether or not I should tell you I was in love with you.” Jimin confessed.

Jungkook shook his head. “I can say the same thing. When I was downstairs making your lunch I zoned out a few times thinking about it. We’re a mess. Stressing out over nothing.”

“Well I think we kind of had every reason.” Jimin said. “We were worried. But you’re right, we were kind of worried for nothing. I guess we just never saw this happening to us.” He explained.

Jungkook nodded. “I know I didn’t see this happening. I’m glad it did. I’m glad I had a stressful day at work and then got a little drunk at that club. I’m glad you were tipsy and happy, dancing alone in the middle of the dance floor.” Jimin blushed at that and Jungkook just chuckled. “I’m glad we got to have that intimate moment and something wonderful came from it.”

Jimin smiled at that, placing one hand on his stomach. Jungkook placed his hand over Jimin’s. The brunette looked up at Jungkook. “I love you.”

Jungkook smiled back. “I love you too.” He leaned down and pressed a softs kiss to Jimin’s lips. Jimin sighed softly in content against Jungkook’s lips. He didn’t expect today to go like this, but he couldn’t be happier for it.

Part 1: Chapter 3 (Pt. 2)

January 4th 2012:

Heiress: age 17

“Stopppp ok in what year did Japan attack the United States?” I asked My boyfriend X. We were studying at his house for the graduation test. He was kissing on me. “Baby we been studying everyday this week, its Friday come on lets watch a movie and chill out” X said. I sighed. “Fine, but we start again tomorrow” I told him. X and I had been together since August of last year. We started off as mutual friends, but we became close after his dad died. I don’t know much about his dad but X said he was an amazing father. He was killed in an attempted robbery he told me. He had been living with his mom before she moved to L.A and he refused to go because of me, so now he lives with his brother named Omari. X and I were different in our enviroment but we had alot of chemistry. Although we lived in Buckhead, my mom worked 2 jobs just for me to attend West Lake, its a private school, but X had said his father left him enough money in his Will, so he paid of my tuition and paid up our rent, bout us bought me a car, and put some money to the side for me to go to medical school, now my mom works from home. “You the smartest girl I know, fuck that test” He said to me kissing my nose. I smiled at him. “How did I get so lucky?” I asked. He shrugged. “I ask myself that everyday” He said. I logged on to my laptop and went on Facebook. “Hard to study when bae wants to be up under u :(“ with X Knight. I posted my status on my page. “So I already paid for our Prom Tickets and I paid for a room” X told me. “A room?” I asked. He smirked. “You said you wanted to lose your V card like they do in the movies, so bet” He said. I laughed at him. “Your so corny nigga” I told him. He rolled his eyes. I heard his front door shut. “Man nah kill any nigga thats trying to fuck with our profit!” I heard Omari say as he walked in. He looked over at me. “Yeah, but Im holla at you later fam” He hung up the phone and slightly smiled. “Business” He simply said. I nodded and waved. I never knew what O did for a living. X said he owned alot of properties. “What yall kids up to?” He asked. “Studying” X said. Omari nodded. “Yeah, I don’t miss highschool, how yall been? All in love and shit” He said smiling. X threw a paper ball at Omari. “Man shut up” He said the boys started play fighting. “Ima let yall finish, X meet me downstairs later in the basement” He said. X nodded. “You want to take a walk?” I asked. He nodded.

“Were do you see yourself in 5 years?” X asked me as we walked around his gated subdivision. X lived in a mansion with 7 bedrooms. They had 5 cars outside, a body guard and security. “I see myself working in a hospital delivering babies, and being with you maybe marriage kids I can’t look that far” I said. X nodded. “I want to own my own restaraunt one day, marry you and have a football team of kids” He said. I gave him a crazy look. “Nigga, I’m only having one kid, im not messing up my coochie for your football team” I told him. He smiled at me. “You might never know” He said. I nodded. “Your right, I might get to marry Drake” O said. He stopped smiling. “Quit playing” He said. “Im dead ass X” I said trying not to smile. “Ima way better looking than that nigga anyways” He pouted. I shrugged. “Long as you believe it thats all that matters” I said. He sucked his teeth in. “Heiress, go back to the house and leave” He said acting like a big kid. “Okay” I said playfully turning around. He grabbed my waist back softly. “Nah girl you aint leaving me” He said kissing on my cheek.

X age 18:

After my dad passed, alot shit changed. My mom moved out and went to L.A. she wanted me to move with her but I wanted to stay with family. She said she check up on me, but I aint heard from her since she left except Christmas. I been spending alot of time with Heriess. My angel, we aint been together long but I know shes the one, shes different from all the girls at West Lake. She not trying to date me cause I got money, she want the best for me, and I want to be the best for her. I think I love her. She knows nothing about my dad and what he actually does, my dad taught me at 10years old how to shoot a gun, and what happens to people who snitch. I saw my dad kill somebody because they snitched to the police. He taught me at 13 how to differeciate the difference between the test of coke and crack. He taught me what every pill, drug, and weed looks like, to know when someones trying to jug you. “So whats the whole point of this show?” I asked Heiress. We was in my room watching Pretty Little Liars on Demand. “It’s a good ass show” She said. I smiled at her. She was always cute when she was serious with something. My phone buzzed...

“I got to go” I told Heiress. She looked up at me as she was laying her head in my lap. “What’s up?” She asked. I sighed. “Remember I told you my dad cheated on my mom and I have a little sister?” I said. She nodded. “Well her mom texted me letting me know shes been acting out again”. She looked at me on confusion. “Why?”. I shrugged. “I don’t know she been like this since I met her, she been leaving school early and shit. I have to find her” I told her getting up. “Well shes 14, she just met her dad in a casket some months ago, this is all new to her. She has a right to lash out. When my parents got divorced I was angry as hell that my dad ran off with some bitch and left me and my mother high and dry. I was mad at her for letting him leave us, she will eventually calm down” She said. I shurgged. “Maybe”. She followed me outside. “I will call you when I get back aight?” I told her. She nodded. I kissed her before we both got in our cars, and went our seperate ways.

“Im not a baby! I don’t need you telling strangers my where abouts!” I yelled at my mom. She shook her head. “You are out of control TiTi, I can’t keep track of you. You are smoking weed now, drinking and sneaking out. You are 14 years old! You are not grown!” My mom Melissa yelled. I rolled my eyes. I heard a knock at the door. My mom walked over and opened the door. It was my brother X. “Hey X, Im sooo happy your here” She hugged him. I sighed loudly. It had been my mom, my grandmother and my moms family for the longest. We stayed on the Eastside of Atlanta. We used to live on BoulderCrest, but when my dad died he gave us money. My mom moved us to the rich side of Decatur. We were Puertorican, but me I was Afro-Latina. My father was black. I always knew about my dad. My mama would tell me he was a very busy man, and then 9 months ago she told me he died. I never met him, never heard his voice nothing. I missed a man I never met so much. “What’s up Ti” X said hugging me. “You good?” X asked. I shrugged. “Can I live with you and O?” I asked him. He smiled and shook his head. “You got a nice little crib here” I groaned. “Yall treat me like a child! Im 14!” i yelled. X lightly grabbed my arm and we went upstairs to my room. “Look I know your angry and hurting, I’m still trying to heal to since Dad died but shit happens, and life goes on. When you turn 18 you can go wherever you want with the money Dad gave you but now, I need you to respect your mama cause shit, atleast she’s still here, to love you and make sure you good or whatever. Man just chill” He said to me. I looked down. “Okay?” He asked. I nodded. “Okay, but Im dead ass leaving here” I told him. He dapped me up and hugged me. “Yeah, and going to college” He said. “Maybe Ima be like Dad” I said. He shook his head. “You see where that got him” X said. “But you doing it?” I said as a matter of fact. “I will eventually because thats what he asked for in his will, he still wants us to go to school you don’t got dreams?” He asked me. I shrugged my shoulders. “I don’t know, marry Lil- Wayne” I said. He sighed. “Nah like real dreams”. He asked. “I want to be a make up artist” I told him. He nodded. “Aight its settled, you can go to beauty school and if you graduate you can get your half” He said to me. I shook my head. “Nooo! Thats not fair!” I yelled. He shrugged. “I aint letting you burn Dads money he died making for you to blow it all on weed, liquor and buy shit for these niggas, got me fucked up” He said. I rolled my eyes. “Its my money I can do what I want” I said. He nodded. “Fine”

Evading eternal gloom and chaos in general | November Goals Update

Hey People of Earth!

Today is December 1st. Which means, November (death) is over, and I can officially restart life during Christmas break in 21 days. November as a whole was much better than October (so much, we don't even compare the two) which is strange, as November is the month of death usually because school gets crazy. Regardless, I’m very pleased that I somehow evaded eternal gloom (for the most part) in November.

Some cool things happened this month, including two university open houses in two different locations in Ontario (London + Windsor = two road trips, two weekends in a row), that high school dance life (my first hs dance when ur last year is next year and this is the first social occasion you’ve attended haaaa lol rip) and Literally The Worst Case Of Writer’s Block Ever I Kid You Not. (Which I will definitely go into in this month’s writing update!)

Overall, November was this very chaotic amalgamation of busy, but cumulatively, was pretty darn memorable. Darn.

Onto the goals.

(Also, I don't know if I’ve ever explained this in recent years, but I work with goals in a very strange way. As in, I don't really work with them, as in, I write these posts every month with goals, then never refer to them for the entire month, then come back a month later ?? and ?? for some ?? reason this ?? works ?? it’s also very entertaining to laugh at my failures is that morbid that I enjoy this very much oh no)

(I enjoy writing these posts a lot though, they give me some time to reflect on the last 30 or 31 days I’ve lived and they act as a great routine. :))

Anywhoozies, onto the things I did and mostly did not do:

1. Hit 15k in FOSTERED #6

So. Let’s just talk about this goal very briefly, shall we. As I mentioned above, November and I did not get along in terms of writing, as in, November served me a big ol’ slice of Writer’s Block and left me to choke on it. I wasn't really expecting this block to be so severe, but it was a thing, and it was very real. I mentioned this in DtWT #66, and I know writer’s block is controversial (some people thinks it’s a bullshit excuse, some people don't care, some people strongly believe in it, etc). I stand on the side of ‘in creative fields, every artist is bound to run into some form of a challenge at some point in their career’. As a creative person, I've experienced tons of creative block. In some cases, yes, this block is caused by fear, lack of ideas, sometimes procrastination, but ohhhh myyy, November’s writer’s block was none of these things.

Initially, it was straight up fear, I’ll admit that. I was just starting this book, didn't want to screw up the beginning of the *very last* book, couldn't piece together ideas that I thought were good even though @sarahkelsiwrites was very honest about them and had good feedback, etc, etc. I would say the first week and a half of this block were straight-up fear based. And then weeks 2 + 3 came and it sort of wasn't anymore. I wasn't scared to write this book because at this point, I was pretty fed up with my moping and fear, and just wanted to get some words out.

*and then the words stopped coming and they just stopped coming*

(which isn't entirely the truth, but let me elaborate)

In this time period, I was still writing. I was still hitting my 250 goal almost every single day, and there wasn't one day I didn't go about writing, or go about figuring out how to go about writing. To me, writer’s block doesn't mean I’m not writing. It just means there’s this disconnect that prevents me from immersing myself into my work, thus holding me back from creating the best thing I possibly can, OR making me think I’m creating something of unsubstantial standards. Does this make sense.

So yes, I was very out of it, and I really do think this block was triggered by fear, and once I got over that fear, lingered. BUT I’m doing MUCH better now, let’s not jinx this, AKA I hit 15 587 words this month and when I made this goal literally didn't think I would haaaa bless.

2. Outline more of ALANNIS, and like maybe try to finish it, though I mean this isn’t going to happen, so yeah, just work on it pls

No. lol. So. I’m going to count this as a half win, because I did complete this goal, but not by much. In October’s post, I mentioned I wanted to go through this outline to see if I could possibly shift some of them into the POV of my boi Matthew. This novel is narrated by Chris, and while I love my girl, something was missing from the story, and so I was like, yanno, screw it, let’s see if I can find some chapters to give to Matt just for the hell of it. Overall, I found about 12 or so chapters I could give to him (excluding new ideas that I haven't gotten, but yes), which is pretty good. Not sure I even want to do this dual POV thing, but I mean, I worked on the outline sort of so. (I really need to get on top of this thing I’ve been outlining it for like a year oops.)

3. Upload cover making video

So abridged version of this disclaimer: basically, my hard drive died on me this month, it had all the footage for all my upcoming YouTube vids, including all the speedpaints and cover making vids, lol sigh back up your stuff kids, didn't listen to myself, rip my data, you will be missed (didn’t lose anything personal and my documents are always protected because they’re the most important) SOOO that happened. HOWEVERRR, this is not an excuse for why I did not finish this goal because I literally had another cover making video exported and ready on my computer BUUUUT I’m vERYyyY extra and wasn't liking how my THUMBNAIL was coming out so yesterday when I was scrambling to actually get this goal done because good job time management, was like yo okay imma redo this tomorrow, and so here’s the thumbnail:

AND ACTUALLY, the only reason I never got this vid up like I dunno THREE WEEKS AGO WHEN IT WAS READY, was because of this THUMBNAILLLL WHICH HAS BEEN LIKE A 2 WEEK PROCESS.

4. Read a book yo.

I actually did this, lol. I finished Kristen Martin’s Shadow Crown this month and started History of Wolves by Emily Fridlund, but I’ve been reading that one at school and like, so far, I’m getting the vibe that I need some hardcore tea and snow and a fire log and some peace and quiet to just appreciate this book because so far I’ve read it in math class and while I do enjoy my math class, i’m getting the feeling this book ain’t no math class aesthetic. (so, the answer is, no I didn't finish this book, but yes, I really really want to because i’m liking it a lot so far and the voice is nice as fuuuuuuuuh and dooooon’t get me started on the writing clapz for dayz)

5. Finish another character portrait

I actually did four portraits this month, two of which are Christmas gifts so I can’t share those at the moment, but here’s one I did of @sarahkelsiwrites’ character Simon:

I dunno why this is still a goal because I’m literally not going to do it if I’m hardly working on the darn outline, but yes, no, fail.

7. Work on FOSTERED #5′s book cover

Epic fail, XD. I don't like the design of the re-designed FOSTERED covers, but for the sake of consistency, I’m going along, and that's serving for some unenthusiastic cover designing but I do need to get this done so I can order copies. (WHICH, by the way, I have a new copy of I’M DISAPPOINTED to order, a copy of my sister’s novel, A HAPPINESS TO WONDER, a copy of my novelette sort of thing THE TREATED and on top of this FOSTERED #5, you can totally call me cheap for realllyyyy not wanting to pay for that shipping twice, lol. Point is, I’ll be doing an unboxing because those are literally my favourite videos ever and I’ve watched every single one on YouTube no lie. ;))

So those were the goals. Finished 4ish/almost5 out of 7 goals this much which is pretty ass, but the ones I didn't finish (with the exception of one AKA THE OUTLINE) weren't super important. Some shtuff I’d like to get done in December:

1. Hit 25k in FOSTERED #6 (aka REWIRED)

2. Outline more of ALANNIS, and like maybe try to finish it, though I mean this isn’t going to happen, so yeah, just work on it pls

So basically Tuesday

Do i even remember this morning

This morning I woke up and I was just so. Tired. So tired. Like hard to move in a literal way.

It was either this morning or yesterday - I think yesterday but when I went to open my blinds to let the light in it was like blue. Maybe that was Monday. Anyway.

Last night I slept in the dark with the door completely closed and the kitchen light off. I guess there was nothing scary to me about the dark anymore.

This morning I took a painful shower and I got dressed in my lined mom jeans that I’ve been avoiding and my grey turtleneck, and my denim jacket. I knew I’d sweat through the turtleneck. I was in denial. I packed a bag. I made some tea. I put my last lara bar in my pocket. I walked to Ryder.

Meeting with Jesse at 8:45. Was amazing.

I blabbed and he actually made sense of it.

Ultimately I don’t hate them I just like can hardly stand being around them because they’re just so cringey and rude and like the combo makes me want to go off. It makes me wanna be like yo. Jennie. Home. Was gonna research summer while eating my ubereats smoothie bowl because Jugos closed at 5 and it was like 3 and i wanted to sit and eat and research. No thank u Bgood u are a heartbreak at the moment.

Accidentally didnt put in my address for ubereats. What was in there was Park Plaza. Mhm. Ow. I called to fix my mistake but it was already on the way. 3 miles away. via bike. Angry ubereats biker.

I went to atm at MARINO and got money out, crying, came back, waited. Called mom weeping. He got here. He was biking away. What? I said hey excuse me he said “it dropped. It fuckin dropped. Im sorry okay you wont get charged it dropped.” I made him take $10 and apologized for the mistake and he said he was sorry for freakin out, sorry for making me cry. He made me think of Maddie Dinsmore. SO, MUCH. He said you’re a female I’m sorry I hate making girls cry and I said oh no trust me you didnt. I said the address I sent it to by accident was just a place I was at with my boyfriend like a month ago and we just broke up and I never order ubereats but i was really hungry so it made me cry.

And he said youre obviously hungry and you didnt even get your food and offered to go get me something from nearer by. He said he was moving to california on friday. I gave him the $10 and said no no that’s fine but good luck in California.

I don’t know why I felt the need to overshare to this stranger. I think it was two things. One was that I saw someone who felt very badly and who’d just biked 3 miles and who wasnt getting paid for it. I am a decent liar sometimes. When it seems like the right thing to do. Or at least I have been. But I’m so fuckin done with that. Not a bone in my body had the capacity in that moment to say oh no it’s not you I totally just bombed a test I literally just didn’t have it in me. But I didn’t want this person to have any guilt or sadness from today. So I just told the truth. Because yeah he was mad and it made me cry but ultimately it wouldn’t have if not for the circumstances. Because the circumstances made me feel stupid and like essentially I started feeling well enough to eat and okay enough not to be scared to eat or to at least be brave enough to leap that hurdle and the universe said fuck you. You should be hurting. And you tried to eat and this is what happens. I don’t believe that to be true. It’s just how it felt in the moment.

And I’m also just so heartbroken and it couldnt hurt to tell this person that I’ll never see again, who could judge me if he wanted but whose judgment would ultimately have no bearing on my life

Back inside. Back in bed. Talked to mom.

looking back, did you expect to write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you’d expected?

Jesus god I haven’t written this much fic..... well. ever. I’ve always dabbled in ficwriting, but I thought of myself as primarily an artist-- this year is the year that cemented the fact that, hey! Maybe I want to be a good writer as well. Basically I wrote about 10 times as much fic as I ever expected to write, but it’s all good :’D

what’s your own favorite story of the year?

fdnfjfhujkdfjrs UM probably The Search for Delos; it came to me really vividly and I wrote it all in pretty much one sitting. When I was done, I was genuinely very surprised that I had a piece like this in me. It’s somewhat different from my usual writing style, and it deals with some heavy themes, but this is the closest I’ve ever gotten to achieving my writing style goal of being simple but vivid and achingly profound.

did you take any writing risks this year?

I joined IRBB, which was risky considering my track record of MONTH-LONG WAITS between chapters and my muse being flighty like icarus :’/ case in point: im only 4000 words in and im stuck as hell. Aside from this, I. uh. Wrote nsfw for the first time and discovered joint writing, which is a wonderful, wonderful thing.

do you have any fanfic or profit goals for the new year?

I want to try and finish cyclical this year, but as long as I keep a semi-regular update schedule on that one (once a month, or thereabouts) I’ll consider it a success :’/ I definitely have to finish irbb, and apart from that if i’m being ambitious... I’d like to finish f r a y and where the heart rests.

The other goal is if I manage to finish cyclical (whether this year or in the future), I want to print it with a nice cover and illustrations and have it on my shelf for my own edification :’D

best story of the year?

I’m gonna be honest i don’t understand this question... I’ve already said my favourite story for the year was The Search for Delos, but is this asking, like, objectively my best piece of writing? I’d still say The Search for Delos :’/ Although, I do think Ritardando was some good writing on my part.

Can I wait to report damage to insurance company till car payed off?

My car was parked on a busy street in icy conditions and when I returned to it, it had clearly been hit but no one left a note, etc. It will probably be very expensive to fix...although it is only cosmetic damage and it isn't horrible. In fact, from a distance, you don't notice it much. Anyway....my husband passed away recently and my finances have been limited. I have full coverage on the car (It is a 2004 ford escape)....because I am still making payments on it. We have a $1000 deductible, which I cannot afford right now. Besides, my brother-in-law tells me he can spruce up the damage and make it look better..and of course won't charge me much for that. So....here was my plan.
