Just like you knew it would, breathing out leaves you gasping for air. You can feel your pulse drumming in your ears and your breath coming out in short little bursts. It's not enough! You've died. You've died a lot. It's really really scary to die and you don't think you've actually thought about it enough! You're not strong! You're not strong, you're panicking like a little kid! Tears prick in the corners of your eyes and they sting.

If anyone notices they'll know that you're not what any of them expected. You're an overgrown child who can't protect anyone!

Wednesday: It sounded alot better in your head when you said you needed to speak with Bianca about something, and granted you should've thought through the whole finally telling someone your crush on the goth girl out in the open but you weren't really thinking especially since the dark haired girl had occupied your thoughts more than you'd own up too. Leaning against a wall as you spoke about everything and asked how you should go about it looking any kind of advice you could realistically use all while not noticing the short girl was around the corner listening intently and knew she'd have to act cruel towards you so you could move on.

Enid: Knowing you shouldn't have been but you wanted an unbiased opinion, As you spoke with Wednesday about the feelings you held in high regard for Enid no matter how often the smaller girl stated she didn't care or that you should leave her alone she continued to be around when you opened your mouth to talk. Granted you should've known Wednesday wouldn't lie for you or get Enid to look the opposite way but you never thought Wednesday would make you talk as she planned out the time so Enid would come up around you two and listen to what you had said.

Xaiver: Extremely flattered and flustered, then would probably think about it for weeks on end to be honest. It would be really nice to know that you had such an interest in him to the point that you would crush on an idea of him in your head (if that makes sense) and even vent the end to get it out even if not to him at first. If he was attracted to you too, then he would try to pursue it to some extent. It would make him feel really good that he was appreciated in that way.

Rowan: You spoke to your best friend Ajax about your crush on Rowan and wondered how you should go about it telling him at least maybe you would, letting out a sigh as you listened to Ajax try to help you out but didn’t want to hear from one more person “Just tell him” since that was the last option you wanted to hear then looked up at your friend as he spoke but soon grinned seeing Rowan walk up behind you and made a quick motion for him to stay quiet as you kept talking.

Tyler: If he did overhear you saying you like him, his immediate reaction would probably be of surprise and confusion. Then, he would probably feel a combination of feelings, including excitement, pleasure, and embarrassment. He might also feel a little anxious, not wanting to disappoint you or feel pressured to reciprocate your feelings right away. But ultimately, he would be happy that you liked him and flattered by the fact that you were brave enough to say it out loud even if not to him when he first heard you liking him.

Ajax: Wouldn't be able to contain his excitement and would probably smile broadly and blush a lot from all that positive attention he just got to hear from your own mouth. His not afraid to show people that he likes you and would feel very flattered and excited that you felt the same way. He believes life is all about the good moments and positive connections so to know that someone felt the same way would be so encouraging for him.

you sat on the docks of port ormos as your feet swayed against the ocean. you slowly inhaled the smell of the sea as the soft texture of grass gently tickled your skin. it was moments like these you truly appreciated life. you heard footsteps behind your back as you looked over to see a handsome young man looking over at the seas.

no, wait it's rude to stare. you thought as you quickly turned your head back. he looked like he was enjoying the silence, but some part of you wanted to go up and talk to him. you hesitated as you fiddled with your fingers.he looked somewhat troubled or lonely, you could practically sense a touch of sadness in his presence.

so, you mustered up your courage and decided to speak with the grey haired man. putting your sandals on and getting up from your spot, you quietly approached him and tapped his shoulder.

"hello!" you greeted, cheerfully, a smile presented on your face. he turned to you, looking stern. "may i help you?" he answered, raising a brow at the situation.

"no, no. i just wanted to have some small talk, thats all." you replied, followed by a small chuckle. "do you come here often?" you asked, sitting back down at the wooden docks.

he looked down on you, his face showing a hint of amusement. "not really, i'm too caught up in work to spend my time here." he replied, his grey hair flowing against the wind. he looked angelic, almost.

"ah, i see. where do you work?" you questioned, looking at the ocean view in front of you. "i work in the academia. what about you?" he responded. your eyes were suddenly filled with sorrow, and he could feel your demeanor change.

"unemployed at the moment, heh. here take a seat first." you offered, patting the area beside you as he sat down next to you. it was as if you were relieving memories with a friend, except this 'friend' is a stranger you knew nothing about.

"ever since i got rejected from the academia, i kind of just lost motivation from doing anything." you answered. although your voice was cheerful, there was a hidden sadness laced in your tone.

"why?" he questioned.

"i didn't know my purpose in life anymore." you responded, your voice devoid of any emotion. "the academia was what I thought would give meaning to my life, when i got rejected, i felt as if a great depression reigned over me." you added, your voice growing quieter and quieter for each word you spoke.

for you, the academia was like a light in darkness. a light that quickly shut you down once you've gotten close. the light you thought would save yourself from the darkness you were trapped in, but was only an illusion from your unrealistic ideals.

"how so? your purpose isnt found in pathetic schools that do nothing more than pressure its students. you are the one that will discover the meaning of your life." he stated, his eyes immersed at the ocean blue waters.

"as a human, our life span is incredibly short. so live one thats worth dying for instead of mourning for your failures." he added to which you just stared at him in awe, the sun gently showered over his features, as if he was an angel sent by heaven. how you wish a view like this could be seen throughout the seas.

"has anyone told you how beautiful you are?" you muttered without knowing.

"huh?" he looked at you in amusement, before a blush crept up to your ears. "i mean- sorry, please ignore that." you apologized looking down at your lap, desperately trying to rid your embarrassment.

"oh wait, i havent even gotten your name yet!" you panicked looking at the man as he chuckled. "alhaitham. and you are?" he asked as you smiled. "y/n."

alhaitham suddenly stood up, before speaking once again. "i apologize, but something has come up and i must take my leave." he stated.

just as he was about to leave, he spoke once again. "you truly are an interesting individual, y/n." he whispered in a volume that only you could hear. "it was nice meeting you, i hope that one day our paths will cross once more." he added before walking away.

What's the fic you've written with the angstiest ending? definitely A Troublesome Transition. i don't really do angst or character death all that often, but this one was cathartic to write.

What’s the fic you've written with the happiest ending? lol pretty much all of my fics have pretty happy endings. maybe Don't Fret Precious ( I'm Here ) ? it's a darker fic that definitely had the potential to be very angsty, but the reveal at the end and the devotion that these two lunatics have to one another is pretty sweet... maybe? LOL

Have you ever received hate on a fic? i got one "wtf is this" type comment on a fic on tumblr once, but i was pretty quick to block the person. i think mostly people are just surprised Homelander has the fandom he does

Do you write smut? If so, what kind? yes. very much so. pretty much any kind. i feel like i'm fairly well known for schmoopy sentimental sex and dirty talk though

Have you ever co-written a fic before? sort of! All That Glitters was a fic collab with @anon-nee, for which they were absolutely instrumental in the worldbuilding and keeping me motivated to keep writing. huge shoutouts to @jethrowest and @irenadel and everyone who consistently lets me blow up their dm's with my wips and helps me when i'm struggling to put words on the page. 🖤

What's a WIP that you want to finish but don't think you ever will? Puppet Master. i had really big plans for this one, but unfortunately it got lost in the shuffle and i've since repurposed the ideas i had for it.

What are your writing strengths? i think my strengths are characterization and keeping the world feeling grounded/true to the source material.

What are your writing weaknesses? i have a lot of insecurities about my fics being boring or not eventful enough. a lot of the times i focus so much on interpersonal relationships, i don't think there's really enough happening in the story. i'm also bad at bringing in ensemble casts. my fics definitely focus very heavily on just the two leads.

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic? i tend to avoid it unless it's very simple established pet names/phrases or something. i use italics and descriptors if they're not speaking in english. if the POV character isn't meant to understand, i'll just describe how the characters are speaking to one another in that language.

What's your favorite fic you've written? probably Eat Your Ego, Honey. it's my first multichapter fic, and i'm DETERMINED to finish it. i really love Layla, and i'm so touched by how everyone has responded to her. oc's can be a bit of a sore spot for me, but the reception to that fic really keeps me going and makes me so, so happy. plus i just think it's some of my best writing.

they're both overworkers who hate seeing the other overwork themselves, so in the beginning they're both constantly reminding with each other to stop working so much, while simultaneously working too much

zhao thinks lucifer has it harder because he sucks at paperwork so he can't fathom having to do that much; lucifer thinks zhao has it harder because he cannot imagine doing all that housework while simultaneously wrangling his brothers, even if he's good at it

lucifer is always telling zhao off for doing all the household chores for his younger brothers, because they will absolutely take advantage of his willingness to help if they've got something else to be doing

the only exception is satan, who determinedly does his share of the chores and scolds the others when they try pawning theirs off on the poor guy

belphie does do it as well but he always feels super bad afterwards

(zhao acting as stepdad to satan and belphie especially has now become canon To Me if you haven't noticed yet)

one time they accidentally swapped glasses but somehow didn't notice, even though zhao's eyesight is significantly worse than lucifer's

zhao has this problem where his blood pressure drops like a ROCK if he goes too long without eating, but he's usually very good about managing it. keyword being usually: one time he lost track and passed out because he stood up too fast

this has never happened since because lucifer (though he was very good at hiding it at the time) panicked so hard that the incident is burnt into his memory and now he's hyper-vigilant about it

it's kind of ironic that this is lucifer's first relationship and zhao's second, given a demon vs human lifespan

lucifer's not really sure how to feel about it. on the one hand, the idea of ik's mother coming back into the picture does make him seethe a little bit, but on other, he trusts that zhao wouldn't be with him if he hadn't fully moved on

i've mentioned before that zhao doesn't realise he's bi until he's in the devildom - to elaborate on that, at first he was just like "woa...... handsome men" and thought it was a completely normal thing. you know, just appreciating good looks when you see it

then the handsome men started being good with his daughter and he was like "...wait a minute"

now zhao thinks his husband is the most beautiful man in the entire world, and while this is heightened by, yknow, love, it's also true that lucifer's just an objectively good-looking guy

meanwhile he considers himself very plain by comparison, and is he is indeed pretty average by societal standards

HOWEVER. if you're into the pathetic shabby dad look. which lucifer is, apparently. he might just be the hottest guy you've ever met

lucifer did not realise he had a type before this

particularly in the early stages of their relationship, the others learn not to let either of them talk for too long interrupted in council meetings because they just start staring at each other and not doing any work

zhao has a habit of accidentally doing something kind of suggestive without thinking of how they could be taken - one time he undid the first few buttons on lucifer's shirt because he was worried about him being uncomfortable in that formal getup, and lucifer thought about it for the ENTIRE rest of the day

i think lucifer in general is just so.... hang on i need to look some stuff up in urban dictionary

down bad? is that the term?? anyway we all know what he's like in-game so. yeah that's elevated here

anyway zhao's accidentally made a habit of calling him 'good boy' and lucifer has to physically restrain himself every time lol

Ough. I've been thinking about when I read the original The Ghost Next Door book and it honest-to-God changed my mind or something because no book I've read so far is as of high reputation in my mind as that. Maybe it was because I was younger and hadn't read as much, but I have had it in my head for like a month now to Get That Book for myself. My school library has like twenty or so of the books but not that one!! When I saw the Goosebumps collection I was like "NO WAYYYY" but then I got really disappointed when it wasn't there. I need to ask the librarian if they can get it LOL.

Anyway, I remembered it again after going through a nostalgia blog and I searched the tag. Lo and behold, there was your blog! I don't remember any of the other plots very well (from the ones I read; the bookshelf where I originally read it was TINY and barely ever had GB books), nor any of the characters aside from Hannah and Danny, but nevertheless I'm enjoying your Goosebumps art and content a lot. Btw your art style is awesome. :D

I'm now desperate to find somewhere to watch the original 90's show. I've seen it's on Google Play or whatever and Microsoft, but I need to look into that. Help is appreciated, if you know where.

But I guess my question is: what books do you recommend? I like both the standard and the choose your own adventure ones (idk if there are any others). I read/started reading The Haunted Mask, The Werewolf of Fever Swamp, Welcome to Camp Nightmare, The Ghost Next Door (duh), Let's Get Invisible, Monster Blood, The Cuckoo Clock of Doom, The Girl Who Cried Monster (I think. That's the one where the guy eats the bugs or whatever, right?), Escape From Camp Run-for-Your-Life, You Can't Scare Me, Scream of the Evil Genie and/or Be Careful What You Wish For (one of them, lol, maybe both. I think it involved a cola can?).

I hope you're successful in finding the book. My library has the opposite problem: It has no books except Ghost Next Door (germany doesn't really sell them anymore, so they're hard to come by, even in libraries). Also, all the Goosebumps episodes you can find on YouTube somewhere! There's many reuploads of them.

As for books I'd recommend, you've already read a few of the ones I really like! But if you need more my favorites you haven't read from the series' you mentioned liking include:

- Phantom of the Auditorium (but like the book version! Very good, very fun, really emphasises the "the gang shares one braincell" part)

- Werewolf Skin

- Calling All Creeps

- Night of the Living Dummy 1 and 2, I've heard the third is good too but that one actually didn't manage to hold my attention, but maybe it will for you!

hey!!! Just want to say that your writing is amazing!!! I just read a couple of your posts and I’m sorry you’re feeling down on yourself right now, but know that your work is fantastic!! Keep doing what you’re doing!!

(warning: incoming advice if you want it, if not then feel free to ignore the ask but just know that the above comment still stands!!! 💙)

as far as ao3 engagement goes, as someone who’s been on and posting for a few years now, it can be a real lottery as far as when or how your fic gets seen. My engagement was slow at first and then as I worked more with different tags and posted at different times of day, it gradually went up. I also used to post multi-chapter and one shots all in one go, which is obviously not a bad thing to do at all, but I found that my engagement definitely went up when I started posting chapters on a weekly or daily basis, which helped it to get more widespread engagement! (It can also help, with multi chapter, to let your readers know when approximately you might have the next chapter ready, although there is no obligation to say that of course! One of my big pet peeves is when people try to pressure writers about when their next chapter is coming out. I only mean that if you have an approximation already, then it’s good to let people know so they can be on the lookout! ☺️)

I’ve posted one one-shot that took a really long time to get any engagement (and is still my lowest one, which isn’t a bad thing of course), I think to a certain degree there are a ton of fics being posted every day in this fandom and sometimes things get buried. That doesn’t mean they are worth any less than ones that get tons of engagement!!! Some of my favorite fics have minimal engagement, and I try to push and promote them when I can so more people can read them. I also will post about my own fics on my tumblr when the moment calls for it or if there’s a new work or new chapter out, and tag that with every tag that someone looking for a new fic to read might be searching in.

Tags and time of day really have made a difference for me in publishing (think about when people might be on ao3 the most). I try to use as many as I can that describe the work and also help it to appear engaging to someone who might just be scrolling through, and I’ve learned that the fics I post with a passage or quote from the work (along with a summary line if you want to add one of course) tend to get more engagement because readers can have a little taste of what the fic is going to be like. It’s all totally a process and you are doing great!!!

just remember that no matter what sort of engagement you might get on ao3, your work is wonderful and valuable, and no one can tell the stories you want to tell except you, because you are the only one with your mind and your unique creativity! My favorite thing to do is just write the stories I want to read, and then if people read them and enjoy them as well then that’s a great plus!

anyway sorry for writing an essay in your asks 😂, and again there is obviously no need to reply or take this advice if you don’t want to! Just know that you are amazing and this is all a long process!

as you've probably inferred, i will say that a lot of this is...more related to preexisting mental health issues than fandom. now that a few hours have passed and i'm out of the urgent Mood i can be a little bit more hopeful about the long game- both in terms of starting therapy and continuing to write in this fandom. as you say it's a long process.

Oof, probably Shadowed Heart, which is my first rare pair fic (Fashav/Ritakka). I promise to give them a happier ending in my series.

I got a couple of comments on Bonding Moments about some choices I'd made that rubbed me the wrong way, but I haven't gotten hate publicly or privately. I think it helps that Horizon is still relatively small in the fanfic/fanart space and I don't share my ship-specific fics on the subreddit for the games.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

I do and I have no shame, hehe. It's mostly M/F and very light on kinks. Other than my Kinktober drabbles, the raunchiest fic I've written is Early Exit.

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

No crossovers. They're kinda tricky to get right.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

To my knowledge, no, but I haven't checked FF.net or Wattpad to confirm.

Nope. Spanish is my native language, but I have no plans to translate my fics from English to Spanish.

Definitely Aloy/Kotallo. Not only did seeing their dynamic and conjuring up ship possibilities get me to write again after a long hiatus, but it's also allowed me to become part of a community of amazing creators both in the Kotaloy Elysium Discord server and beyond. n.n

15. What's the WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

I don't necessarily think I'll leave any of my WIPs unfinished, but some are a little more complicated than others in terms of getting them to meet my own standards (yeah, I'm my harshest critic).

With longfics, I've since learned to write until completion and then start posting, only because I don't enjoy the self-imposed pressure to update something that's already out there since life can be really uncertain at times.

16. What are your writing strengths?

Dialogue! It takes me such a long time, but I love nailing the voices of the characters correctly and having readers comment on that and their characterization. However, I do find speeches a bit cumbersome to write because every word has so much weight to them, even though I do enjoy the end result.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

I struggle with describing environments/settings, because I never know if I'm being descriptive enough to paint a full picture for the reader.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

I think if it's a few sentences here and there is fine, but anything else might make it inaccessible to part of the readership unless it's stated in the author's note that the fic will feature two or more different languages.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Horizon, though I wrote a (thankfully never published) fic for Final Fantasy VII when I was around 13 years-old; trust me, it wasn't good and I still cringe thinking about the plot. HOWEVER, I miss that feeling of writing without caring about the end result, of just having a deluge of words on paper with a somewhat coherent narrative thread.

20. Favorite fic you've ever written?

It's hard to pick only one because all of my fics are special in their own way, but I'll go with Hurricane Drunk because I had so much fun describing Kotallo being drunk and struggling with confessing his feelings for Aloy in a humorous way.

i have a question!! do you/have you ever had those perfectionist type feelings when it comes to ur art where u feel what u are doing isnt "real art" bc it's not super detailed, realism, etc. bc ive been dealing w that and its making it hard to be able to draw anything at all bc i feel like i do make is too simple and "easy" :(((

I actually feel this way a lot, and I'm currently on posting break due to this!! I understand the feeling, but I feel I wouldn't want to abandon my artstyle or theme, as I really do love it, even if it's too simple.

I've talked to an artist who's gone to college for artwork, and I've been following her advice, so here is what she has said to me regarding this:

- feeling inadequate in your artwork / art style / art skill is normal, and you're allowed to experiment with your art, and it's ok if it doesn't turn out right. This feeling just means you want to improve, and that's a good thing.

- some things you can do to improve this are following art fundamentals lessons, coloring lessons, or anatomy lessons on youtube/online class/written tutorial. It's ok to take a break from your art to learn something new, implementing new information and skills into your art, can be a huge improvement!!! Even if it's something very small, or being applied to a simple artstyle. There are lots of simple artworks that are actually complex because of their coloring, or understanding of anatomy, or anything etc!

Another thing I've recently heard from a video by Milkywaes is that "art is how you see the world, how you interpret it... ...art is supposed to be genuine to you." This really changed my outlook on artwork and I feel very eager to make new things, even if they appear simple, or if I feel pressure to be complex or realistic.

I feel like I'm getting rambly, so I'll cut to the chase. Art and artwork development is a journey and feeling the ups and downs is natural, especially if you're a perfectionist.

Just remember these things :

- simple art is also beautiful art. Simplistic art doesn't nessecarily mean the artist isn't hard working. I appreciate you and all of the other simple artists.

- it's ok to switch up your work to match how you feel about art! If drawing in a simple artstyle stresses you out, you can take a break and try something new. You are already an artist, so I know you can do it! I'm rooting for you!

- don't be too hard on yourself. There is a lot of pressure on artists that isn't warranted. Only one person can know your journey, triumphs and rough patches in art, so you've got to be your #1 supporter!

Already, you've got the cutest height difference and aesthetic match in the world. You come to just about her shoulders and that's not counting her hat! Fortunately, since you wear heels you can inch a little closer to her—unless she's also wearing them. 

Rosie loves fashion, so you two go shopping together a lot. She's always offering her clothes to you, but when they wind up too big (as always), she will tailor them herself to suit you or bring them to a proper tailor to fix them up. You don't wear exactly the same style, but Rosie will incorporate more of your elements into her wardrobe so people know you're together. 

Oh my, and you can dance? No matter the kind, the moment you tell Rosie that she is already talking about the pep she used to carry in her step, and she wants to go out dancing with you a lot more. Rosie is an amazing dance partner because she is very good at following your lead or showing you how to do what she has going on. 

She also LOVES your kitty Morty. Oh yeah, shes going to spoil that cat to death because, isn't it just the cutest furball ever? Rosie is the type to get bit by a cat and coo about how strong a bite it has. 

Now, she isn't one for video games, but she is more than happy to learn all about the various types you play! Be it board, video, or card! Rosie is actually really bad at these games and often reveals her hand or her plan, but she still loves trying it out with you. The one game she could beat you in 99.9% of the time is chess.

One thing that really surprises her is your ability to get along with Susan. Knowing you have a habit of being cruel to those who deserve it, she expected you to hate the woman! Instead, you bonded over your hatred for a lot of things, and Susan insists on you always being the one to help her in the emporium. 

Expect a lot of listening to oldies music while she shows you her old dance moves, working in the emporium with her, and the cannibals being extremely protective of you when it comes to other demons.

Author’s Note - I'm sorry I know its OBVIOUS but when I was going it Rosie got 7/8 and Alastor was the closest with 3/8!!! I just think she really is your match made in heaven 🖤

i don't think tulin would be able to resent revali, as they both are in canon, if he even tried! he's been such a huge part of his life for as long as he can remember — it's hard to untangle all the positive feelings and thoughts rooted down to your core and built up over all those years about someone like that. and when the pressure of aspiring to be like someone so revered has never felt like actual spiral-inducing pressure ( fr i could go on and on about his confidence and all the people who've nurtured it to that point 😭 ) but more like encouragement or intense faith, it gets impossibly harder to do so!

also i'm assuming you're asking this in an aoc context ( but will touch on the Potential of this concept, give me a sec slfdjkf ) given that tulin would have like. no knowledge of revali's feelings towards link and the way those were externalised unless he was explicitly told about them otherwise and honestly? the situation would confuse him more than anything, just because he's so young, in that child who doesn't understand that people can like him without liking each other way asflkfkj "the coolest people i know don't like each other which is so weird 'cause i like them and i'm pretty sure they like me WHY DON'T THEY LIKE EACH OTHER???" cue shenanigans from a kid who just wants all his Older People to get along and will forcibly have them bond if need be

that being said, please know that i'm only jesting and not being genuinely reductive with the whole "[revali and link] don't like each other" statement! it's how a very young tulin would interpret their interactions, but we all know there's something much deeper to how revali treats link sdlkdjf ( WE KNOW THIS, YES?? )

in circumstances where tulin would actually be able to grow up witnessing or knowing about this in full ( like, say, an au where revali survives or something ), i do think it could potentially lead to him developing a greater understanding of who revali is, by way of him...well, yeah, once again, meddling and attempting to "patch things over" and just generally being an annoyance with how much he'd be pestering revali with questions like "but WHY?" ( with no intention of inducing any real introspection, though possibly doing so anyway because he's a kid who really likes accidentally asking the hard-hitting questions slfkdj ) though lbr, the antagonism between revali -> link would be of a much different flavour than any shown pre-calamity at that point...but that's a post for another time!

ultimately, i can see the hero worship mellowing out naturally as he gets older, especially as he grows into his own role as a sage. the closest to any sort of real negative feeling he'd reach about revali in the process might be grief ( the kind you'd feel when you outgrow someone who was older than you but no longer is ), or an inability to understand his uhh. recorded eccentricities sklfjdfl but master revali is someone very important to him, and someone who will remain very important to him! he's not going to let that opinion be soured if he can help it :)

hi~ what you've done with hurt and grieve is amazing. wanted to say thank you for bringing some really important issues to the forefront and it was so nice to get a sense of closure for ray's story. do you have any advice for a novice writer? it would be much appreciated <3

🥺🥺🥺 pls you're so kind. one of my favorite things is writing fics that center on complex issues and character studies (lol if u read anything else i've written that's pretty much all it is) and i was absolutely FLOORED by the reception i got when posting HAGBDSA. just goes to show that closure is important!

also deeply honored that you would ask for my writing advice. i've been writing since i was 16, and even have a degree in creative writing, but fic writing is the only way i really use it these days so i'm happy to share what i know!

WRITE WRITE WRITE

god i'm sure ya'll are tired of hearing this from writers. but seriously - the only way to improve your writing is to keep at it. just like with any other skill. not only that - but find trusted friends who can read your writing for you and provide feedback. writing for yourself is one thing, but if you want to share your writing, it helps to have some practice receiving feedback before posting publicly.

2. Write the stories you want to read

Another cliche, maybe? But I've gotten a lotttt of requests in the past from readers to "do this trope" or asking the plot to go a certain way - and that's all fine if you're writing prompts or requests intentionally. but personally, writing what i want to write has always been the best method for me. if you're not passionate about what you're writing, then it shows in your work.

That being said...

3. Try new things

You won't know what you enjoy writing until you try writing in various genres, styles, and mediums. I cannot tell you the number of abandoned WIPs i have in my drive from all of the different story ideas i've had that I've attempted, only to realize I wasn't fully invested in the genre/style/medium I was trying. and that's okay.

writing something and not finishing it is still PRACTICE. and now, you have a better idea of what your niche is and what stories matter to you (tying back to both point 1 and 2).

Hopefully that's a bit helpful :) As always, just have fun with your writing as well. The moment you start to put pressure on yourself or place expectations on what it should be, you lose sight of what the work actually is.

howdy! it's day 1 of MCYT fanfic appreciation week, and i was wondering if you had any future writing projects or other ideas that you wanted an excuse to talk about :D no pressure whatsoever to answer this ask, just thought i'd reach out ♡

ive got a couple ideas but no current WIPs. considering writing a sequel/alt pov to but i still hold out hope that maybe someday (also known as the rancher games), following a new character watching the games from back home, and having to live with what happened afterwards. jimmys sister, to be exact. i cant say much about this one without spoiling the original fic, but. there will be pain. and if you've read the original you know why there is pain. but there will also be seablings.

my second idea would have a more unusual format- ive got a massive superhero au i havent talked about here, just going feral on discord, but i was thinking about writing something for that. not plot, it doesnt really have much of that, but some kind of guide to all the hermit heroes. in the format of notes taken by the resident power copier, beef! with help (scribbles in the margins) from a zedaph.

the main thing stopping me from writing those right now is that i do not have a good handle on the characterization of either lizzie or beef. ive never written them before and having them as POV characters will be a challenge.

#superhero one is mostly an excuse for me to ramble about the many many cool powers i gave them #i have every single hermit and several adjacents all with unique and complex powers! #this is enrichment for me. #beef technically isnt the only power copier there's also a mumbo but mumbo can do more than that. #also mumbo doesnt like to copy powers much because he has to drink someones blood to copy them and that tastes bad #(mumbos ability was inspired by his s8 becoming what he eats bit) #beef can copy powers but cant use them directly he has to turn them into cards first! #anyone can use the cards to mimic the powers of whoever the card is of. zed often uses them because of his specific fuckery #normally the cards get used up theyre not an endless supply of powers they have charges. but zed somewhat bypasses that? #and zed also doesnt have powers that help him fight directly so he could use some backup cards anyways #and for the rancher games one. im very attached to the lizzie jimmy tango dynamic i created. #theyre soft. as they should be. #but yeah lizzie had to watch. That. had to see her brother get reaped #and had to watch him [SPOILERS] #not fun for her at all!
