I am curious besides rise what’s your opinion other on the other iterations of Raph? Since he’s my fav
87 Raphael is my favourite turtle of all, but it's hard to know where to start describing him. I just want to hold him out to people like "see?"
He's an outlier among Raphaels so people who usually like Raphaels don't always like him. He's the wise guy of the group and would always rather say something clever than something useful, but when he does say something useful it's usually a suggestion they don't run headlong into danger. He's verbally prickly, but physically affectionate, and although he's not the protector like some Raphs he does get latched onto by Donatello and Michelangelo sometimes just because he doesn't push people off. Michelangelo jumps into his arms when scared a few times and Raphael just stands there holding him for the rest of the scene.
I think Raphael vs the Volcano is a good episode for getting to know him. Raphael thinking he's dying due to a silly misunderstanding is a standard 90s TV plot, but the show takes it unexpectedly seriously once the set up is done. We see his cynicism as he tries to convince himself that the world is good and his life has been worth living only to fail due to New York's typical disregard for a loitering pedestrian. We see how his cynicism doesn't stop him wanting to save people when he decides that the world is terrible but he's at least going to make it better before he goes. We see his tendency to run from things, in this case from the emotional scene saying goodbye would be, since the misunderstanding continues due to him leaving notes instead of using his turtle comm. He's a little guy, he cares a lot, he's scared of a lot and doing his best anyway. Like other Raphaels he has more emotions than he knows how to handle.
03 Raphael is so nice. He wouldn't understand me saying that, which breaks my heart, but he is honestly such a sweet, polite teenager. He spends an episode doing chores for an old lady and is suprised and touched when she wants to see him again. When we see his worst nightmare it's his own face being behind Shredder's helmet. More than any Raph he seems to genuinely think he's bad. His temper is a lot for him to control and the part where he nearly hit Mikey with a pipe came off as if it might be a dissociative episode but he gets very little help with it. Despite his prickly reputation he's more often acting as emotional support for the others, especially when Leo's in an anxiety spiral.
He does have fun though! He's a Raph who really enjoys a fight and his "irritation" with Mikey is just a game.
My favourite bit of the Christmas episode was him and Angel pranking Casey with mistletoe because it's not often he really gets to act his age.
2012 Raph is maybe the prickliest Raph of all, combining 03's aggression with 87's sarcasm. He still manages to have the biggest, saddest green eyes when his brothers are upset and he can't do anything about it, though.
He comes off like an asshole in season one when he genuinely does seem to not like the other characters very much. Later this mellows a lot, to the point when I'm told he still regularly threatens to quit the team and storms off I'm not sure I believe it. Especially when it's never happened on screen before.
I don't think I have much to say about the movie Raphs. 90s Raph is good. 07 Raph needed to apologise to Donatello and not to Splinter, but that is a plot problem more than a problem with him. Batman Raph should not get to lecture Batman about being open with his family. I swear, of all the turtles XD

If you were to recommend your top Fence fanfics, which ones are they and why?
(my answer became unnecessarily long, skip to the end for the one rec I do actually have)
So, this is slightly embarrassing, but. But. But. But. Not sure if you know or not but I also write fanfics for Fence. My problem is that I'm one of those fabled long fic writers and the one fic I have up goes up to 164k words. A little beast, to say the least. Took me a little over a year to write it, pretty proud of it still :')
Now. When I write for a fandom, I do not read in said fandom. That is solely to keep myself from stealing anybodys ideas by accident. You know how dreams work? Surely. You process all the information you've gathered (actively or passively) during the day and they come together in some weird short films or some strange blockbuster which you'll think was extremely alien in the morning, but on some level it of course made sense. It's your head after all.
To get back to the initial point, when I write, I don't read other people's work in that fandom, because when I brainstorm at the start of the writing process and put it all down, I have this outline, I know where I'm going, I know where I'll end up, but there's evething in between. Which, on a long fic that spans at least 130k when I start going, is a lot. And since I really don't wanna steal by accident and jumble in ideas that weren't mine, I don't read other people's fics. Different fandoms? Sure. Not Fence [the respective fandom] tho.
NOW since I'm writing these beasts, they take a while. I posted the other one in August 2022, started the year before (ergo, no fence reading during that time already) and I started my current project in--
August 2022. So yeah. I haven't read any fence fanfics since roughly three years. But I recently got over a very bad writers block and should be finished in maybe three months. Not making promises here tho don't hold me to this lol
TALKING ABOUT PROMISES - thinking back to any fics I DO remember (and since I write so much myself it's honestly just other long Fics that manage to stick in my useless sponge of a brain) is Promised Things from @applesandbannas747 (I can't get the link to work I'm so sorry, but you'll find it if you search the Fence fandom by word count over 100k on ao3, that's how I always did it) and it's one of the only fics EVER where I went back after an amount of time had passed to reread it. I think there's only one other fic that managed to make me do that, so respect to the tagged author.
Sorry I couldn't give you more than that. If anybody even bothered to read this far - I'm very much open to all fic recommendations that came out during the last 3 years lmao. Give me half a year and hopefully not another random writing idea in the shower and I should be finally able to read some good fan content soon
(please muse, fuck off. It's been years now. Visit people that need you more than I do)

I've been playing through all the Frogwares Sherlock Holmes games, and I'm loving it!!!
I started with Chapter One, then The Awakened (2023). Loved every second of them omg. The level of detail on the cases and the clues were incredible. I got stuck very frequently, but that was probably user error for the most part. Walkthroughs helped me get unstuck.
Now I'm playing through all the other games in reverse order. Going from newest to oldest. It's really interesting seeing the game mechanics that become a bit less polished, and disappear. I get to see in a very neat way how the games evolved over time. The Mind Palace for example, is the easiest to navigate in the latest two games. The way it was displayed was a bit different in The Devil's Daughter and Crimes and Punishments. Once I got used to it, I was fine.
I'm at The Testament of Sherlock Holmes now, and the Mind Palace is now a Deduction Board. Same game function, but more rudimentary. In story, it's Watson's notepad.
Another neat thing is the different versions of Holmes and Watson! I love all of them dearly. Chapter One and The Awakened are the same canon. Devil's Daughter is all on its own. I haven't gotten there yet, but it seems that Crimes and Punishments and all the games before them are in the same canon as each other. Testament of Sherlock Holmes references The Awakened (2008), Jack the Ripper, and I think The Hound of Baskervilles as well. It's fun to see references to games I haven't played yet. I'm really looking forward to it.
And a neat thing! 221B Baker Street seems to have the exact same layout in all of the games! It's decorated a bit differently, but the room placements, bookshelves, ect are in the same places!
And looking back, it's neat to see where certain game mechanics came from. I first got to play as Toby the hound dog once in either Devil's Daughter or Crimes and punishments. I forget which. During that playthrough, I was a bit sad to find there was only one time that I got to do that. I was suprised to see in Testament of Sherlock Holmes that I got to play as him multiple times!
And in The Devil's Daughter, you can explore a bit outside your apartment. There's mini games like arm wrestling, boxing, darts, but they don't play a part in the main plot. They were carried over from an earlier game.
It's just really fun! The stories are so interesting thus far. The friendship is wonderful to see in every variation. And it feels great when I complete a puzzle on my own, even if it sometimes takes a while. Highly recommend!

Vampire price where he uses cigars and scotch as a way to try and keep the bloodlust at bay, maybe he was turned on accident or out of desperation to preserve his life or something and he hates what he became and refuses to prey on innocent people but the hunger just keeps getting greedier and greedier, vampire price where he can smell the blood from a wound on reader and becomes addicted to the scent of them and tries his very fucking hardest to control himself, he thinks about how they smelled for weeks afterward. Vampire price where he warns reader to stay away from him all the time, knowing he’s a monster and they are far too good to be corrupted and tainted by his monstrous hands, but reader keeps pushing anyway, enchanted and enamored by him regardless of how dangerous he’s known to be. Vampire price who knows he shouldn’t get attached but cannot fucking help himself, he knows they’re too fragile and mortal but he find himself following them home in the shadows to make sure they get there safely. Vampire price where the reader finds out eventually and doesn’t treat him as a monster or something to be feared but rather as a god, one they willingly offer their blood to without hesitation, sacrificing a part of their mortality to sustain and worship him. Vampire price where he feeds carefully also as a form of worship for his partner, feeling their blood fuel his cold body and vowing to protect them no matter the cost. Vampire price where he lets himself get loved despite the fact that he’s a monster.
Sorry to ramble but those previous anons awoke something within me. Also I cannot stop thinking about how he’d look with blood dripping down his chin and staining his chest hair father forgive me
No, please keep rambling 🤩 I love all of this!!
I also really adore the idea of Brooding, reluctant Vampire Price x Headstrong, determined Career-Driven MC. It's s something I've been dreaming of. UGH.
Especially if the MC in question is, like, a private detective or something, and is determined to solve a puzzle/mystery which leads them directly to Price. It might add a level of nuance because there is a Mystery unfolding and the deeper MC becomes embroiled in it, the more it leads to him. So, the moral question becomes: is it him? And if so, do they turn Price in?
It isn't, of course, but the reveal of his innocence forces them to team up to solve it (I might be, like, super imposing my avp Scar x Lex propaganda in this a little bit, but it could lead to a wonderful team up which then leads to Feelings™). And, of course, MC realises that Price isn't a monster, and accepts him quite easily after that - much to his bewilderment.
ADORE THIS!! Sorry for rambling on it!

Hello there, it is I, again to ask the questions I wanted to ask before getting distracted by hot motorcycle guys.
How did you, and your lovely men meet? Was it love at first sight? Was it more complicated? Did someone play the wingperson to make sure you end up together? Tell me everythinggggg!♥
Yay! You’re back! Look, the hot motorcycle guys were worth the detour. Still melting thinking about that tiktok.
TOGE and I met in high school! We both knew that our lives were too different to ever really entertain the idea of being together forever, but we decided not to let that hold us back in the way that we loved. We decided that whether we got 5 days, 5 months, or 5 years, we would cherish the time we got to spend with one another, and not think about the end. Neither one of us wanted to tie the other into feeling like it was “forever” – I’m worried I’ll hold him back or make him hesitate to do what he needs to do, and he’s worried he’ll put me in harm’s way. So it’s always “I love you,” with a silent understanding of “but when you have to walk away, I won’t hold it against you.”
SHUJI and I... fun fact, neither of us remember how we first met! But we were immediately drawn to one another like moths to the flame. Antagonist and chaotic, we each had our own lives, coming together to ward off boredom or loneliness, sometimes fighting, sometimes fucking. It started as “you’re here when there’s nobody else, but I won’t be tied down” evolved into “no matter who else I’m with, you’re the one I always end up coming back to” and ended up as “why do you let anybody else touch you when you have me?”
TETTA and I… well, it’s Tetta. He knew everything about me before I ever knew he existed. Or, he thought he did, at least. I was just supposed to be some conquest, a trophy wife. It wasn’t love, it was obsession, and he was absolutely astounded when I wasn’t interested. It was great. (Not for him.) But, through his ridiculousness, I started to see the more human side underneath. However… every time I’d give him an inch, he’d try to take a mile. It was definitely an uphill battle being in a relationship with him.

Greetings!
I'm wondering... between the arid desert and semi-desert of the Karoo, The hot but alternatively dry-and-wet bushveld, the Mediterranean fynbos, and the lush, humid coast lands, where would you expect to find ice types in South Africa?
Oh I LIKE this question! Thank you!
When we think about deserts we often think about hot, dry, and arid wastelands with the sun blasting down and cooking everything that isn't adapted for such conditions. However, technically heat isn't the underlying requirements for a desert. Its precipitation.
A desert is an area that receives no more than 25 cm of precipitation a year.
So what does that have to do with your question?
Well, as you mentioned in your question, there are a lot more ecosystems than simply deserts in South Africa. It sustains rich biodiversity in its plethora of beautiful environments! However, one thing remains - all of these places are hot.
When we think of ice type Pokémon, we think of species that are especially adapted for frigid conditions and ambient temperatures that occasionally drop well below 0 degrees. However, it should be worth mentioning that one adaptation many ice type Pokémon have is the ability to retain liquid water, because yes, even the high arctic is technically a desert as it receives less than a few inches of precipitation a year!
Ice type Pokémon do need to stay cool, but more importantly, they can't lose moisture. Mammals have a particular set of physiological traits to help them stay cool, like fennec foxes that have huge ears to help regulate their internal body temperature.
Tumblr media
Other species have other adaptations. Its easier for Athropods like scorpions and arachnids to retain moisture because their exoskeleton is water tight, and they get much of their moisture from their prey. However, Stenocara gracilipes is a species of beetle native to the Namib Desert, and it has evolved a unique ability that helps it get its moisture.
Tumblr media
It is drinking the mist. So this species has evolved a carapace that is perfectly engineered to collect water droplets and direct them towards its mouth.
So, in order for an ice type Pokémon to survive in South Africa, its environment needs to be cool, and if its environment can't stay cool and dry, there at least needs to be enough moisture in the air it won't completely dry out.
If there is anything that screams ice, it's penguins, and yes of course there are penguins in Africa!
Tumblr media
The Humboldt Penguin is a species of South African penguin that swims through the cold Humboldt current, which is quite cool as it carries water from Antarctic Oceans. As we know there are already a few penguin Pokémon, one of which is indeed an ice type.
To bring this answer to a close, ice types can exist anywhere that it can retain moisture and/or stay cool. Whether it means that a species can only come out at night where it's cooler, or if it needs to stay underground where it will not be pelted by harsh sunlight, ice type Pokémon don`t need a lot to survive. It just so happens that Africa is a little tricky to support those conditions.
I hope this answers your question!

somehow instead of saying "as a treat", I've started using the phrase "for morale", as if my body is a ship and its crew, and I (the captain) have to keep us in high spirits, lest we suffer a mutiny in the coming days.
and so I will eat this small block of fancy cheese, for morale. I will take a break and drink some tea, for morale. I will pick up that weird bug, for morale.
I'm not sure if it helps, but it does entertain me

2b nier automata is literally the funniest protagonist of all time because since her design is so sexualized tons of people flooded to the game to look at big anime ass only for her in the very first second of gameplay, before you've even seen the characters, go "why are we here. just to suffer? god, im so fucking sad"
then because nier automata sold so well, due to it being fucking fantastic and the aforementioned anime ass, every gacha under the sun went "oh shit can we have collab with 2b please please please" and yoko taro (i assume) was like "yeah sure" so now she's in like 20 games surrounded by anime thotties going "uwaaah i really hope commander-san notices how short my skirt is!" and she's in the background going

Gentle reminder that very little fandom labor is automated, because I think people forget that a lot.
That blog with a tagging system you love? A person curates those tags by hand.
That rec blog with a great organization scheme and pretty graphics? Someone designed and implemented that organization scheme and made those graphics.
That network that posts a cool variety of stuff? People track down all that variety and queue it by hand, and other people made all the individual pieces.
That post with umpteen links to helpful resources, and information about them? Someone gathered those links, researched the sources, wrote up the information about them.
That graphic about fandom statistics? Someone compiled those statistics, analyzed them, organized them, figured out a useful way to convey the information to others, and made the post.
That event that you think looks neat? Someone wrote the rules, created the blogs and Discords, designed the graphics, did their best to promo the event so it'd succeed.
None of this was done automatically. None of it just appears whole out of the internet ether.
I think everyone realizes that fic writing and fanart creation are work, and at least some folks have got it through their heads that gif creation and graphics and moodboards take effort, and meta is usually respected for the effort that goes into it, at least as far as I've seen, but I feel like a lot of people don't really get how much labor goes into curation, too.
If people are creating resources, curating content, organizing the creations of others, gathering information, and doing other fandom activities that aren't necessarily the direct action of creation, they're doing a lot of fandom labor, and it's often largely unrecognized.
Celebrate fan work!
To folks doing this kind of labor: I see you, and I thank you. You are the backbones of our fandoms and I love you.

people who go through the main tags of big and tumultuous fandoms looking for new fresh good posts to reblog are essential to any circle. they’re like true hunter gatherers leaving the safety of settlement and braving the unknown wilderness to find food for the flock. they risk their lives every day and will come back with a few scratches at best and severe psychological damage at worst
