Scaramouche x Reader Smau
Scaramouche has only ever been nervous and worried about two things in his life, one was his mothers approval and receiving love when he was younger. The second was when he started his rise to becoming happier, if he truly deserved the friends he now holds dear.
So this kind of useless bustling of nerves irritated his skin scorching pink neck up. He could tell himself that it was merely a meet-up to talk from one artist to the other.
Except he was dreading his fake facade of an artist title.
He was no artist. He was a coward who wanted the approval of one. With nothing but a computer screen to show.
Scaramouche eyed the clock hands tick as his restlessness increased with it. He ruffled a hand through his hair now anxiously biting his fingernails.
If he kept up with this any longer he would very much back out like the moron he is.
The button ringed from the inside of the studio echoing as anticipated steps clack more sensible towards the door between them. It swung open and your face greets him with a smile.
Scaramouche likes how easily your smile comes, but also hates how melty he feels towards you when it hasn't even been a whole 2 months since you both met.
“Glad you can make it Scara! Welcome to my studio” You wave him in quickly while the door closed shut and you ran back to the large empty canvas stand.
He hms at the loft-like studio. The opposite wall of the front door was fully windowed providing lots of natural light perfect for an artist. The second floor wasn't visible to where he stood since it was overhead, but he could imagine that's where your prized works were and maybe even a rest area where you could sleep in. The studio probably seemed very minimalistic when you first entered, but now the walls and floor have been coated in beautiful color splashes of paint.
Scara was in fact very impressed and in awe with how an artist like you worked, how your art studio is so bright and gorgeous. Truly a manifestation of creativity soaring past its limit.
When your friends told him that you dabbled in every art they weren’t lying.
White tarps laid out of the floors underneath the several canvases stands you had plus a large standing table you held a pc and drawing tablet on. The table held many other art mediums for your disposal.
You were shifting stuff around, hobbling the canvas stand and a few stools as well as more materials for paint and other materials.
“Scara, what medium would you like to try out here? I have every art imaginable” Busy looking through the shelves of art supplies, you couldn’t notice his subtle fear in his stiff movements.
“...Acrylic paint i guess.” He peered at your metal drying rack and saw the recent acrylic painting and choose that as his safe option.
You turn to him with a grin holding them up in a woven bucket, “That’s my preferred medium too”
He gave a slight sigh of relief.
Moving around to place the three stools, one stool for each of your canvases and the third stool for the basket of paint. Gesturing him to sit you gave him his painting palette tray, water cup if he so needed, as well as his brushes and palette knife.
“Let’s just have some fun painting whatever comes to mind, yeah? Whatever you feel like right now. Art therapy time if you will.” You laugh in joy, having a new art friend who would paint with you was nice in its own right.
He nods quietly enjoying your sunshine and the un-desired purpose in this painting.
As he squeezes the needed paint onto his paint tray his ability to color coordinate fails him. A murky purple was made instead of his wanted light pink.
His face narrows and scrunches up as the scraping of his palette knife grinds harder against the wooden tray.
Your iridescent laughter seems to erupt into the room and it draws Scaramouche’s attention away from his threatening stare down with his paint.
“Aren't you an artist?? Hahaa, are you not skilled in the painting area mouchie?”
He jolted at your unintended nickname where both you turned away to collect yourselves for a second. “Well— …yeah, but, i’m still not good.” He cleared his throat to feint embarrassment when he really was swimming in his own remorse.
“What color do you need then? I can make them for you.” He peered at your palette which consisted of pretty pastels. He didn’t want you to mix fresh new paint for his pathetic ass.
“I can just use some of yours. I wanted a small canvas anyways.” You nodded as he scraped some of your hefty mixed paint onto his tray. You got started on applying paint to the blank canvas and he followed along.
Chimes of piano music fill the room from your ongoing playlist playing on your computer. It was rather peaceful.
One of the rare moments Scara can feel at peace.
“If you don’t mind my idle chatter—having a nice chat while drawing is nice to me.” You put down the paintbrush for a second to look at Scaramouche.
“—would you like to hear the story about my parents? It’s one where thinking about it always fuels my art drive and how I'm so immersed in drawing all 99% of the time” His attention is pointed at you in obvious interest. Your fingers pick up the paintbrush and continue light strokes of paint, a bit abashed at his sudden attention to you. Starting off your story, Scaramouche attempts to multitask but finds himself staring off at you instead of his canvas.
“My mother was and IS an artist, my father was just a politician who loved good debates. Y’know like those old aged stuck-up political men.” Chuckles emerged from both sides.
“Father had strong feelings towards art since he thought it was but pointless. He couldn't find the meanings of art. So when he and mother met for the first time they butted heads a lot in debates. Father was that one stubborn lawyer man.”
“Their arguments were real heated and well put out points were favored on my moms side. When mom got an offer for a large project that caused her presence to be in Sumeru, dad was a little empty without the debate over art and how useless it is. He grew so used to the debates every week when he was able to see her working as they bumped heads. But he was too stubborn and high on his horse to even ask one of her friends when would she come back.”
“Years passed, like a good 3 years, and she came back to Inazuma as well as many of her paintings to show off her success. When they met again at a politically invested museum he saw mom again after weeks of her return. He saw her showcasing her works with the most grandiose and genuinely happy-in-life smile. Compared to her lesser smiles when she wasn’t profound in the arts.”
“It was then where he fell in love with mother. Her strong will for her crafts, her hands that hide all her calluses from hours of work. And the smallest detail on the piece even caught a mile away, he fell for it all. He told her of his admiration, though awkward with being in touch with his emotions, she was glad she got through to him finally. Mother always admired his stance of his opposing opinion, it was the big push for her to compose such a grand choice of risking a lot for art which gave her no stable income. Without him, her hopes to prove to the world that art is needed, she would have stayed hidden as ‘one of those disgraceful artists with no real job.”
“When they got married she taught him how to paint and they were so much in love. Still the debater, he challenges her to art history and how he knows the most about her large contribution to opening up the art world. The amount of times i asked them to repeat the story to me, haha i think I might have high standards now.”
“Enemies to lovers…”
“Hm? I don't know, having an enemy is kinda.. clique, no? And i honestly don’t think i can ever date an enemy i hate.”
Scaramouche shrugs as he attempts to brush up his awful attempt of a painting. “I don’t think I would be able to bear an enemy either.”
You smile and got up brushing your apron. “I have a bunch of snacks in my pantry. Let me fetch them.”

who’s the most ticklish character
oki so i just recently unlocked all of freminet's voice lines and he's soooo cute so i'm gonna give this question to him and he has the softest stuttered giggles. he's super shy about it though and not very comfortable with laughing so much in front of a bunch of people so he'll tolerate one person tickling him at a time and the team doesn't tickle him too much so that he's not too uncomfy and can ease into a bit more, but they do say encouraging things a lot. like navia will be like "oh you have the cutest smile fremi!" and even scara will try to say something nice like "your laugh is.. inoffensive" and it flusters him because he's not used to this treatment outside of his siblings
who’s the character that most people would assume isn't ticklish, but actually is
so i don't think this is something that would apply to your team but scara constantly feels the need to tell people that he isn't and aether will play along and be like "ya guys he really isn't" while also wrapping his arms around scara and tickling him in random spots and being like "see, he's not ticklish! not here, or here, or even here.." and scara is squirming in his arms trying to hold in his laughter while doing his best not to scream the whole time

oh it's absolutely scara like he will be bullying aether with tickles which draws out navia's big sister urge to step in and separate the two before helping aether get back at scara
i personally think freminet would stay out of gang tickling if he can (he finds all the movement and noise overstimulating) but he might join in if it's aether or navia that is being tickled. scara intimidates him lol

ooohhh i wanna say either navia or scara. like navia is surprisingly strong and it always catches the others off-guard and she leverages the element of surprise to her advantage but scara can be really ruthless when he wants to be and he's probably the overall best ler in the group

i'm going to say scara for this one because sometimes navia and aether will be poking at each other and scara would just look at them weird and aether asked him "aren't you ticklish too?" and scara was like "uh no?" but it sounded more like a question so aether set off to find out himself and scara basically went into feral cat mode when aether finally did tickle him which was a mistake because now scara has an excuse to get back at aether all the time now

AETHER AND SCARA like these two are constantly at with each other and treat it as a friendly competition but scara is like way to into it and is very try-hard when it comes to winning so usually aether comes out the loser (also scara just likes seeing his smile and hearing his laugh don't tell anyone)
not really tickle fights between the two but sometimes freminet will be watching aether and scara have their usual tickle fight and navia will come up to him and be like "jealous?" and freminet is like "not really, but.. maybe??" and navia might give him a few tickles depending on his body language or how he speaks and she might offer to let him tickle her. she knows he's really timid about it though and won't pressure him or anything

Scara, puppet reader, and Albedo forming a trio of artificial life abandoned by their creators lol.
But a friendship between Tighnari and puppet reader would be lovely. Think of all the botany lessons Tighnari teaches them when they ask for help. Puppet reader taking notes and he lends them books is a very nice thing. Tighnari could try using gold paint to see how kintsugi would look on him first even if the potential pain of tattooing scares him off. At this rate, who else is gonna get struck by lightning from an Inazuman immortal??? And live with scars? Tighnari and puppet reader forming a support group.
Video montage of Scara personally going out of his way to forage for the ring materials himself cause he’s a dedicated husband like that. He has to make sure the qualities are up to his standards.
I honestly have to resist the urge to make more jokes because of how Scara and puppet reader are related. It’s just too easy to comment on how Scara really is keeping things in the family or how you can tell they come from rather aristocratic backgrounds because of how cousin marriages are so prevalent in those circles (really fascinating to read about actually! There’s a bunch of cultural and time era related reasons for it. Actually, the world building in Genshin would be so interesting if we knew more about stuff like this. My anthropology loving brain would go haywire. Like it’s unfortunate for Scara but I can imagine before the wedding (and this wedding pic) when he has the first drawing of them, someone might ask who it is and the first time Scara says his family, he learns real quick to say puppet reader is *his* because that person asked if puppet reader was single and willing to mingle. That person got the chance to mingle with Scara’s rage. How dare they covet the waifu of his laifu? The sheath to his sword - omg the Aranara banging pots and pans because if they can’t get sleep (do they sleep??) because of Scara and puppet reader then Scara and puppet reader won’t get sleep because of them!

And maybe not paint because well he's gonna have a hard time reaching those back areas no matter how dexterous he is (hey you don't gotta do Tomo like that sksksksksks technically Traveler is part of that support group, while Kazuha and Thoma are honorable mentions)

Guys oh my god, I had the coolest crossover dream ever.
Lastnight I watched the new Dr Strange, it was weird, didn’t like, but anyways.
I had a Genshin x Dr Strange x Fruits basket dream omg.
Keep in mind this dream was kinda like a live action? So everyone looked real basically.
You know how in fruits basket, they all live in one secluded area under a family head? Yeah that was basically the dream. Scara was the family head and everyone was frightened of him, even though he was a child around 6 or 7.
The dream started off with me running around the complex with a few other people and Lumine who was badly injured to find the family doctor.
The family doctor lived in the same house the family head does, so we had to be very careful, eventually we found miko, who is the family doctor.
Now keep in mind miko looks completely different in my dream. You know how that assistant dude in Dr strange looks? Wong. Yeah him, she looked like him, tanned skin, chubby a bit, kinda old, her ears literally looked like cardboard creation like a cosplayer did it but it looked weird and cool at the same time LOL
So yes we eventually found miko who had Lumine sit down right outside her room, while I sat on some stairs not too far from her. Eventually the family head came out and we were terrified but scara only came to find miko, hug her, and then be on his way. He had a shy embarrassed face on the whole time.
Soon enough we drew some attention and a bunch of people were around us, some servants came out along with Zhongli who was a child as well dressed in this fancy traditional clothing. He passed me going down the stairs to someone, collecting trash, on his way back up I grabbed him and pulled him into a hug, he was so sweet, his little chubby cheeks were to die for, I ended up giving him trash as well and he left.
That was basically the dream but it was so cool?? Like?? We get tanned, chubby, realistic miko. Scara as a child and the family head, and little Zhongli who’s just a servant doing his duties please
I need someone to draw this I beg it’s so cool.

I was referring to Japan’s Heian period! I really like the style from that era, especially since the Tale of Genji and the Pillow Book were written at the time by women. It does lean more towards luxurious stuff, though. But a lot of etiquette, I imagine, would be part of Scara and puppet reader’s mannerisms since they are quite old. Maybe puppet reader has an archaic way of speaking? Scara would have adapted to a more modern language but I do like the idea that these immortals have habits from long ago that didn’t really leave, yea? Because I do enjoy the thought that if Scara has a house built for him and puppet reader, it would be similar to how he envisions the world he wanted to create for them. Him possibly using a bunch of mora from his time as a Harbinger to either save up, or go straight ahead with building it.
What I enjoy most about these two is how their relationship works and what goes on in the setting outside of their interactions with other characters. How would Scara continue to provide for them as he had adopted the role of the provider and they have somewhat adopted the role of house spouse? Thoughts like that. At the same time, I lean towards there not really being a perfect label for them because there just… so much that is left unseen and unsaid because there’s so, so much history and fondness there. A bond that one cannot name and limit with titles. Because to name it is to give it definition, yes, but it then it limits what it is. And that doesn’t seem to fit them. (Philosophy class hit me hard, ig.) But they are immortal (like lobsters) and there are many things about their relationship that are just 💖.
Anyway, I was reading into the Heian era and I just enjoy how the arts flourished and now the thoughts of Scara and puppet reader playing these old, aristocratic games while the rest of the audience (Paimon) has no idea what the game even is or why it’s complicated. Reciting poetry while looking at the moon. (Or just playing simple games for fun and being happy.) Scara personally harvesting plants and making his own pigments to paint puppet reader’s nails and draw their red eyeliner. Think about the stories they could inspire together.
I am… overwhelmed with feelings. Like, yes plot is important but I always want to dig and see the characters outside of it. Who are they? What makes them “them” and why do they do things a certain way?

Oh yeah, I do understand that part but I was just unfamiliar with the era and its aesthetics haha thank you for elaborating here tho! The luxurious and elegance (etiquette) part I'm positive that the both of them were subjected to before they were abandoned, and I think it's more apparent with Scaramouche with how he talks and acts canonically (his gestures are honestly so smooth and expressive)
Puppet Reader has a hmm I'm not entirely sure how to describe it, because as implied by the story, their speech patterns were heavily influenced by the years of worship and prayers when they were staying by the sakura tree village! Respectful usually, flowery and taciturn
Scaramouche definitely got most of his caring, breadwinner attitude during those days when Reader is fragile. You can also call it projecting his insecurities of being considered worthless and useless so he made conscious effort to be needed, and it then turned into a part of his personality around them. Now that they're in good condition and have no Fatuus to do everything, they now have to deal with overprotective Scara insisting to do everything while they want to carry half of the work because they CAN and they really WANT to haha
And you're right about the label thing! Mostly because they don't feel the need to label it, it just feels natural, meant to be, probably a connection they realized that do not parallel most human relationships and so, unable to worded properly. They are everything. I've also made sure to lengthen the first part at best to establish how they are during their wandering days but I did miss some scenes sadly
Red Eyeliner of Fate is definitely what we can call this alternate timeline where it revolves around the good ending of them still being together hahaha
