Let's Stay and Count the STARS (Ch 3)
My contribution to Chreon week: an eight chapter long fic of Re1/2 era Chris and Leon. I prefer to write longer fics, so each chapter was inspired by the given prompts. (Also posted on my Ao3)
Pairing: Leon S. Kennedy/Chris Redfield
Prompt: Confessions/ "You're going to have to trust me."
Words: 1.2K
Tags: Fluff, Kissing
The next month went on; Leon followed Chris nearly everywhere in the RPD. It got to the point that people started to make jokes about the two of them being together, but they’d both just bush and awkwardly laugh it off.
“Good job on the reports, Chris,” Wesker said. “Seems Kennedy has a good effect on you. I might just have to extend his stay with us.”
Chris brushed off his remark and left the office to the hallway where Leon waited for him.
“I’ve actually had a lot of fun mentoring you these past few weeks,” Chris said.
“Yeah, It’ll be weird doing stuff on my own,” Leon looked up towards Chris and then quickly away.
Well you aren’t through with me yet. I have one last surprise to get you settled in. We clock out at the same time, so wait for me by the door.”
            “What?”
“You’re going to have to trust me,” Chris smiled.
Leon looked at him and felt something in his chest fluttered. Was he having a heart attack in his early twenties? ‘That’s ridiculous,’ Leon thought the longer he looked at Chris. His blue eyes sparkled with something mischievous and Leon couldn’t look away.
            “So?” Chris asked again.
Leon completely blanked on the last few things he said.
“Uh, yeah that’s fine,” Leon fumbled over his words. “I’ll see you after work then,” Leon smiled and quickly walked away. He could feel his cheeks burn and he couldn’t stand it if Chris saw just how embarrassed he was.
Leon spaced out for the next few hours. He barely got any of his own paperwork done as his mind always wondered back to Chris and whatever he had planned. He said his goodnights as he clocked out for the weekend and went to wait outside.
Shortly after Chris emerged with a smile on his face, “c’mon, I’ll drive!”
Leon followed him to the parking garage, “Are you sure you know how to?”
“Ha. Ha. Ha. Rookie, do you want to come or not?” Chris stood near his truck and waited for Leon to climb inside the passenger seat.
As they drove Chris explained they were going up the mountain a bit to a spot that overlooked Raccoon City. A few of the other STARS guys were supposed to meet up and have a few drinks.
“Are you sure we should be drinking out here, won’t we have to drive back?” Leon sat on the hood of Chris’ car.
“It’s only one, and I don’t plan on leaving anytime soon.” Chris hopped up onto the hood next to Leon.
Leon took the beer can Chris offered him and looked out over Raccoon City. The sun was beginning to set behind the mountains and cast the two in a soft hue. They sat there and idly chatted as the other STARS members failed to show on time.
Chris pulled out another two beers from the truck, “since the other guys are late, I think we can drink theirs too, right?”
Leon laughed, “I think so.”
The sun was fully set by the time Chris pulled the last two beers out of the six-pack he brought.
“Did you ever try to count the stars when you were younger,” Chris looked up at the sky.
Leon chuckled before he took a drink of his beer, “no.”
“I would tell my sister that if she counted enough that a wish would come true.”
“Alright,” Leon lowered his drink, “let me try.”
Leon stared up at the sky for a second before he turned to Chris and pointed, “One.”
Chris looked at him and laughed, “alright rookie, very funny.”
“Well I counted them all, where’s my wish?”
“What could I possibly even give you, unless you want more paperwork to do?” Chris stared at Leon.
Their eyes locked, “uhhhh, forget it.” Leon looked away and downed the rest of his beer. He crushed the can with his fingers and held onto it.
“C’mon man,” Chris lightly slapped his shoulder, “I owe you for this past month. What can I do for you?”
Leon turned back towards him. He swore it must be the alcohol, but Chris looked so good right there. Casually leaned against the hood of his truck in his worn out STARS uniform. A goofy smile was dimly lit by the rising moon.
Leon leaned towards Chris a little, “close your eyes.
Chris tilted his head in a questioning manner and Leon felt as if his heart was about to explode. Leon felt a jumble of words in his chest and he wanted to scream them all out.
“Is that really your wish?” Chris asked.
Leon nodded.
“Okay then,” Chris shut his eyes and remained motionless.
Leon couldn’t fight whatever was in him anymore. All the feelings he wanted to ignore or brush off as something else bubbled to the surface as he grew closer to Chris’ face. Leon quickly leaned over and pecked his lips against Chris’. The motion was fast, and he almost missed, but it was just as sweet as he expected.
Chris’ eyes shot open as Leon leaned back.
“I’m sorry,” Leon covered his face as his cheeks started to burn.
“Did you just-” Chris stopped.
“I shouldn’t have, I’m sorry. I don’t know what happened,” Leon started to ramble.
“Leon, it’s okay.” Chris put his hand on Leon’s shoulder.
Leon relaxed and looked back at Chris, “I just….really like you.”
Chris’ goofy grin returned, “That’s a relief, cause I… like you too. I honestly thought you hated me this whole time. You would always look so embarrassed whenever anyone made a joke about us.”
“What? No, I was just trying to keep things professional.”
“Well, stop it rookie,” Chris pulled on Leon’s shirt.
The two clumsily collided onto one another until their lips were locked. Their arms wrapped around one another as their kiss deepened.
They only had a minute to enjoy themselves before a loud whistle and some claps sounded off nearby. Leon pulled away from Chris and nearly fell off the hood as he tried to stand.
“What the?” Chris looked around and saw another truck parked somewhat nearby. He instantly recognized it, “Brad is that you?”
“You owe me a twenty, Forest.” Brad yelled.
“Hey I just didn’t think Redfield would have the guts to do it,” Forest walked up to the two with Brad behind him.
“Were you guys spying on us?” Chris crossed his arms.
Leon tried to duck behind the truck from the two, his face was now on fire.
“Wesker had us cleaning guns so we showed up late, but you two were having a moment and we didn’t want to interrupt,” Brad said.
“Whatever,” Chris playfully pushed him. “Hey Leon, you hungry? Brad here is buying.”
“What?” Brad asked.
Chris stared at Brad until he agreed.
“Uhhh, yeah.” Leon poked his head up.
“Cool, you drive us. I don’t think I can,” Chris gave his keys to Forest and climbed in the back of his truck.
Forest got behind the wheel of Chris’ truck as Brad returned to his own and followed them back into the city. Leon sat next to Chris in the back seats. Chris leaned over and pecked a kiss on Leon’s cheek before he grabbed his hand and intertwined their fingers.
