Honestly this isn't your best moment. You kinda got scammed out of 20 bucks for what you thought was a cheap cosplay of an alien soldier and when you put on said costume you got screamed at to "get back to the ship" and got kidnapped by some purple fish looking creatures. Next thing you know you're in outer space in, what you can only assume is, some sorta Ren Faire for space dorks. It looked pretty cool, but people kept trying to put you to work and getting you to larp with them, talking about some "Ruler of the Galaxy" and "Nightmare to Humanity". It was all really charming but right about now is when you were starting to get the munchies, so naturally you went on the prowl for some poor vending machine and/or food cabinet.

Without any helpful signs around to guide you through this maze of Star Wars ride at Disneyworld and Metallica's love child, you got lost. After walking for a while you start to hear shouting. A sign of life, and perhaps snacks (or at the very least water. Because GOD DAMN was it getting hot). Walking closer the shouts got louder and you could make out some words.

"ANOTHER FAILURE! WHO THE HELL THOUGHT CRABS WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA?!"

"Um, you did... sir."

"SHUT UP, DUM DUM! Are you calling me STUPID?!"

You reached the door and it automatically slid open, just in time for you to see one of your fellow cosplayers get zapped and turned into feathers by an extremely tall guitar monster. In this life or death situation you know it is important for you do react with dignity and poise, as to survive and stay alive. So you respond in kind,

"HOLY SH*T, WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU?! OH MY GOD?!"

Your panicked state causing you to just freeze in place, stuttering and mumbling utter nonsense.

"Excuse me? YOU DARE INSULT AND MOCK ME?? YOUR FEARSOME RULER??!?"

The guitar man struts closer, is it wearing platforms??? He (???) Raises his hand, the one that shot the guy before you (rest in piece). You stumble back and scream,

"AHHHH DONT SHOOT ME PLEASE!! I HAVE BANANAS IN THE FREEZER I STILL NEED TO BAKE INTO BANANA BREAD. They've been in there for months, BUT I PROMISE I'M GOING TO GET TO IT I SWEAR!!"

He falters, and in this moment you take in his appearance. He had a dark robotic and skeletal build, donning some sick ass platform boots, a leather cap, a red tie, and huge shoulder pads. His face was that of an electric guitar, rocking red eyes and scarlet lipstick, and... wait is he just in his underwear?

"What the- You're a human?!"

He lowers his hand and you let out a sigh of relief.

"Yeah... I'm a human. What about it?"

"How did you get up here?! Into my IMMENSELY IMPENETRABLE EVIL HEADQUARTERS?!"

"... I walked."

"...Oh."

You both kinda sat in awkward silence for a bit. The issue from before had presented itself once again when your stomach let out a noise that even Godzilla would be jealous of.

"You uh... got any snacks man?" You asked, the fear from before subsiding and your fallen brother in arms forgotten (R.I.P Nathan). Guitar man™ looks at you quizically, then turns around and whispers to himself (you could still hear though because he isn't a very quiet person).

"If I befriend this human... I'll be able to infiltrate the Earth AND TAKE IT OVER THUS BECOMING THE GRAND IMPERIAL EMPORER AND MOST EXTREME BEARER OF AWESOMENESS WHO HAS LOTS OF FRIENDS AND NEVER HAS TO HANG OUT ALONE!! MUAHAHAHA!!!"

"Sooooo... is that a no?"

He turns back around and smiles wickedly,

"Come now human! I will grant you snacks and in return you will become my friend, hang out with me, tell me all of humanities weaknesses and how to defeat Shred Force!"

"Yeah ok." You shrug.

He grabs your arm and just about drags you with him as he strides down the hallway. You stumble but manage to keep pace.

"Hey what's your name anyway?"

"You, my fair accomplice, can call me Nordic Bunny. RULER OF THE GALAXY AND NIGHTMARE TO HUMANITY"

"Cool cool."

mean girls (2024)

fine. FINE. it is time to discuss mean girls (2024) bc i can't stop thinking about it and i had a severe mean girls the musical phase in 2018 and 2020 two separate times. and also i took notes watching the movie last night. so now you are all subject to hearing them. spoilers, obvi. (under the cut, of course)

i think it should be noted here that i also have Thoughts and Feelings on the bway musical. so if anyone wants to know those... moving on.

it's a movie-musical adapted from the stage musical adapted from the 2004 movie adapted from a BOOK called Queen Bees and Wannabes released in 2002. now that that's out of the way:

the good:

the sets are so much fun in the movie. the musical is like. a few desks and tables and a bed that all move and then. screens. i missed real sets. so much

opening the musical with janis and damien recording the video in the garage and having their narration work like that worked sooooo well. and then of course ending in the garage was very fun.

speaking of janis and damien, these are my favorite versions of janis and damien. auli'i and jaquel KILL IT as janis and damien.

angourie's cady (acting-wise) is really good. really cute and naïve and it feels authentic as a transition from new kid cady to plastic cady.

i also don't mind the changes to apex predator. i think auli'i and jaquel killed it and i think it works! i like the choreo too where everyone is acting animalistic (re: this is Girl World in the og movie) except regina.

avantika and bebe wood are also really great as gretchen and karen. this might be my favorite version of karen. ily karen shetty.

LOVE this version of someone gets hurt. i love regina controlling the atmospehere around her and literally becoming the apex predator. the partygoers don't move unless she allows it, and even planning cady's reaction (which is. gayer than expected) is so good.

CONTROVERSIAL TAKE? i prefer the story behind the pyro-lez thing. i never liked the space dyke story in the musical and i thought it was weird (though i prefer them calling her a space dyke because it's supposed to be mean. ya know)

im saving this for this bullet point bc every other bullet point would've been about but i've been a fan of renee's regina for forever now, so being able to see it outside of broadway and outside of shaky bootlegs is a blessing.

after regina eats shit at the talent show, during the social media montage, you can briefly hear the intrumental version of world burn, and i think thats cool.

SOMEONE GETS HURT (REPRISE) you will always be famous. i am so sorry they didn't put you on the soundtrack

damien on the jazzy will forever be funny. it's better than the og movie. i will stand by this.

also the background/looming beat of world burn like a second after janis gets done singing + the looming threat of regina's revenge is very cool.

OH world burn is very awesome in this bc. duh. of course it is. but what really stands out to me is that it's like apex predator again where everyone is acting like animals and reginas above it all (bc she did this lmao). another thing is the transition between one of the high notes to regina fake crying in mr duvalls office. that was so slay.

the reginald joke is my fave in the whole musical and im so glad they kept it. it makes me giggle every time.

the bad:

i miss all of the songs. give me back It Roars, Where Do You Belong, the entirety of Meet the Plastics, the What's Wrong with Me reprise, FEARLESS! and Whose House is This, More is Better, and Do This Thing!! GIVE THEM BACK TO ME!!! PLEASE!!! OH my god and Stop. jaquel would've blown this out of the water i just know it.

i miss the jokes about mrs george and her boob job. that shit was hilarious.

i don't care for cady's pov in revenge party in this one. those who have seen it Know.

i also miss the "NO! THEY'RE BOTH IN THE COSTUME!" that shit killed me. absolutely hilarious.

the musical (bway edition) actually did cut some of the iconic scenes from the movie, but i think this movie would've benefitted from adding them back in. give me the "we should totally just stab caesar!" line.

i hate Rockin Around The Pole. so fucking much. i hate it in the broadway version and i hated it in this. i hate this song so fucking much.

chris briney. that's all. he's got about as much personality as a wet piece of paper. get a different aaron.

even the broadway musical is like, actually mean. it still pales in comparison to the og movie. this movie could have done a little more to stand out from the actual musical and the og movie. idk. it could've said something. but if you walked into this movie and expected it to say something then that's on you. sorry.

this isn't something that needs to be categorized but i miss cady's inner monologue. it's very obvious in the movie but she's even got these cute little asides in the musical that i WISH they would've kept. like: "it seems kinda bad to spy on someone, but they're the first friends i've got, and i don't want to have none." is so much fun and gives cady so much character and i love it so much. erika henningsen is my favorite variation of cady. she's believable as both nerdy cady and plastic cady. also she's so, so funny. (honestly i think they should've brought her back for cady's songs in this musical. sawry. i don't think they should've replaced angourie bc i really like her cady But.)

another cute and quirky thing that i like from the musical that isn't in the movie (because it would be really hard to pull off) is that mrs heron/mrs george/mrs norbury are all played by the same actress.

anyway that's all i have to say about mean girls (2024). in my (completely unprofessional) opinion, they should've literally just adapted the actual musical script if they wanted to make this so bad. or released a pro-shot with renee as regina and this cast or something. they should've gone all out campy musical with this one instead of trying to market it as a remake bc it's not Really a remake. like it Is but it's Not.

Hi i just wanted to say I love your works and profile sm, I love how you represent fireafy and coinpin and each of their respective characters, and I especially love how you represent Coiny. I feel like from what I've seen people don't see how Coiny really is, they usually just reduce him to a jerk or a firey slapper. But he's so much more and so different from that lke in canon he's so driven and serious but then fun and chill when needed, and how he can be fun and silly but then empathetic and sweet when given. and I feel like the way you represent him is so accurate and takes evey aspect of him in canon as well as headcanons that just FIT HIM SO WELL and idk it just makes me so happy. I also LOVE your headcanon of him being able to pull both masculinity and femininity, I love it so much it emulates the essence of him so well so be so comfortable in himself and not have a shred of toxic masculinity or anything like that. And I love how you make him adore pin like YES HE ADORE AND LOVES and does whatever pin wants it just makes me so happy esp with how gorgeous she is and as someone who is also plus sized and having issues with self image seeing coiny adore pin like that makes me believe in myself more idk how to explain it but YEA hahah just really like how you depict his charcater as a whole

coiny is one of my favorite characters he’s sooOOO FUNNY AND CHARMING! i love expressing his silly side and how dumb he is sometimes so i do it in most of my work (because it’s lighthearted almost every time) and it makes me so happy to see him being so.. coiny! he is genuinely such an amazing character and the perfect balance of cool, kind, and idiotic(affectionately) he’s so nice and so compassionate and i appreciate that about him so much and I AM SO HAPPY THAT YOU CAN ENJOY MY PORTRAYAL OF HIM BECAUSE HE IS SO AWESOME! I LOVE EVERY PART OF HIM!!! and you like my headcanons!!! i forget what kind of coiny headcanons i have represented on this account but YESSS!!! I love ayah!! Her powers are so cool- I always thought smoke was such a cool power, and shes just. WOW shes cool and pretty! If you want to infodump on me ever, I'm all ears! Her clothes are really cool too, but I actually found out when drawing her my pencil pack comes with NO purples, so I had to find an itty bitty crayola pencil instead 😭. I love her design though!

Ok. Minor confession: when I got to your character you had deactivated your account by then, so I had a little bit of trouble finding your character's ref again! Still, I'm really glad I found it, because your character has such a cool design. A master of healing is such a cool idea- why haven't they made one yet!! Chat has such an awesome character design- im totally jealous of her hair. As I was drawing her the hair was the most fun part I'm totally obsessed with it! As for her lore, I'm super curious about her relationship with the other SOG members 👀. Also, it was my first time drawing sunflowers, haha, so they might be a little wonky! Still, Chat totally rules, and she was super fun to draw- especially her hair! The ombre is soo pretty <3

I'm soooo sorry about his skintone- my gray pencil was having the worst day of its life and i erased it like twelve times 😭. Still, theres some extra stuff I tried to put in there. The skeleton guy is supposed to be an angel, and the necklace his hand is on is supposed to be angel feathers! (I was thinking they might be remnants of his wings 👀). I was inspired by priest clothing I found online. JMN is a really cool character and as I was drawing him I kept thinking of stuff to add- I love the idea of fallen angels!

Viridius is such a goofy goobster I love him SO much. I drew him in the midst of a water balloon fight with his classmates (ten bucks says he started it, haha!). Its so sad that other kids dont like him- I hope he gets a cool power it better friends to make up for it lol. But hes such a fun character. Drawing a snake man was a little difficult, but I had a lot of fun drawing him, and I liked the detailed descriptions you gave alongside them!

LEAF THOUGHTS: love them. except the one that sent me into anaphylaxis. he was a BITCH!!!!!! but in general they rule. leaves changing color in the fall? u can’t beat that. finding a giant leaf that’s bigger than ur hand? ELITE!!!!!!! when ur walking along and a leaf lands on ur head and u go AAAAAAAAA and panic bc u think it’s a big bug but then u slap it off ur head and u see it’s just a leaf and u go lol 🫵🫵 such a prankster!!

POOL THOUGHTS: so many kinds of pools….. swimming pools? epic i love being submerged in water so i can feel like a fish. tide pools?? Asakusa Adventures part one:

2/1 dinner with friends and 2/2 Senso-ji Temple

After leaving Ochanomizu, Charles and I took the train to Asakusa, our next stop in Tokyo. We had dinner plans to meet with a friend and her family that night, and we planned to explore the area the following day (which is yesterday, at the time of writing!)

Our friend, Penko, her husband As'maria, and two sons took us to Asakusa Ichimon, which is a super traditional restaurant. It was featured in the movie Shin Ultraman which came out in 2022, and Charles really wanted to visit it as a film location, but before we could even mention it to her, she was already suggesting that we should all go together, and so we did!

The interior was amazing, I wish we had taken more photos. Taking photos inside establishments can sometimes be difficult, privacy is much more significant of a cultural consideration than in the US and we don't want to take photos of other patrons. It was a lot of gorgeous, dark wood, short, low to the ground tables, tatami mats, and floor chairs. There was a super zen, indoor water feature too, which was pretty cool, to put it mildly.

I don't even begin to know how to describe how tasty the food was; there was a huge menu of sakes (Japanese style alcohol, think sort of like a "rice wine" even though that's not strictly accurate) and shochu (more like a liquor), almost all, if not all of which, we'd never seen before in the states. The entire meal was a like...5 course experience, starting with a small appetizer of fruit, tofu, fish egg and beans (in honor of the Setsubun holiday, which is today [2/3] at time of writing!) all the way to a hot pot of tuna, leek, mushrooms and more. Genuinely everything was like, beyond delicious, and it was sooooo much food, without ever making us feel like we were totally gonna pop (although it was close). There was also a beef dish mid meal that was the first beef Charles had eaten in close to two decades, and it was worth it.

It was also really really special to get to spend the time getting to know Penko and her family better; I first met her here on tumblr actually, maybe....gosh, I don't know, 8 years ago? give or take a year? through a mutual fandom (we were both fans of a specific pairing in a video game called Danganronpa, where she was a very popular fan-artist at the time). Since then, we've met her in Japan a few times on trips, and we've slowly gotten to know her family over the last few years. After our engagement, Penko actually drew some lovely art for us as a congratulations; if you were at our wedding, we had it displayed near our guestbook :P

The following day, we spent exploring around our Airbnb in Asakusa, as well as visiting Tokyo Skytree. Our stay was on the second floor, above a restaurant, right in the heart of the district.

We started the morning early at Cafe Royal, a super old-school Showa-era coffee shop built in the early 1960s. We had coffees and breakfast there, and their specialty Royal Coffee has to have been one of the best coffees I've ever had. It almost reminded me of dark chocolate in terms of its acidity and smoothness. It was truly awesome.

Afterwards, we spent some time shopping at Uniqlo, a Japanese clothing store (there are some in the states too, if you're curious!) My favorite pair of jeans ripped badly on the plane, and I wanted to replace them, so I bought a new pair at Uniqlo, as well as some of their warm layering clothing, which they're well known for, to stave off the February chill. Charles also got some warm winter wear, so we're both totally topped off for the rest of the trip with trendy heat-tech goodies.

We also wandered around the streets and streets and STREETS of Asakusa's extensive shopping and food district surrounding the massive, gorgeous Senso-ji temple. One thing I love about Japan is that these huge shopping districts often have covered roofs over the streets so even if it's raining or kinda crappy weather, you can still walk freely across blocks without too much trouble. We were mostly window shopping, but we definitely stopped for a few treats.

omg hi b thanks for enabling me (the fic is here for those who want to read it)

guys. i just. i have such an unhealthy obsession with religious trauma and it is SOOOOO intriguing in the zelda universe especially botw and sksw and totk and like tbh. i know lots of people hate it but i feel like morally grey or even leaning "bad" hylia is so cool and intriguing and awesome. she is not someone i will ever see myself writing as an actual normal character but someone i love to depict through the eyes of other characters like.... zelda. obviously. this fic itself is less about hylia and focuses more on zelda's mother but zelda's mother's feelings are a direct result of religious trauma & anxiety & her own perceptions about hylia

we know so little about zelda's mother she is briefly mentioned and that's it and i CRAVE knowing more about her so i took it into my own hands (i came up with delusional headcanons) and this fic is just one manifestation of that. i could go on about it forever. we saw how the whole prayer thing affected zelda and her father, but we know nothing about how it affected her mother. did she ever have to share the same burden? did she understand the gravity of what zelda would have to go through? in this fic her guilt and anxiety is so intense that she wishes literal death on her baby so that she will not have to go through these things that she knows about but hasn't experienced--but knowledge of it is enough to send her into panic.

i am so sorry. this is less about the fic and more my own ramblings but its some of the thought behind why and how i wrote it... i hope thats ok LMFAOOOO heres a snippet below

Undemanding, void of stress, it did not beckon or call; it waited, because it knew it was only a matter of time before the baby was baptized.

The woman cradling her baby could only stare at the gentle ripples prompted by the slight movements of the people holding the basin. One of them, the Bishop of the Church of Hylia; the other, a mere boy. The Bishop smiled at her, gentle and polite, giving a small nod toward the bath. If only he knew, she thought.

Her husband asked her, Why do you hesitate? She said, I don’t know. His hand on her shoulder was anything but comforting. His hand on her shoulder was doom; an omen, a prophecy, a call to a future known yet unpreventable.

She took a step toward the basin, the soft tap of her shoe against the marble floor echoing through the empty cathedral, empty except for the five people in the room and the hard, stony gaze of the Goddess Hylia above. Here, her steps weighed heavy like no one, not even she, could fathom; her steps were laden with fate, controlled by the puppet string of the gods. Each step spelled another death, another destruction, another ruin. Tap, tap, tap.  

She was beside the basin, hushing her baby in her gentle embrace, her baby with a head of blonde hair much like her own, with eyes like her own, with pale skin like her own; the baby who looked so much like her she wondered if this foretold fate was not the baby’s but hers instead, and by some divine mistake it had been passed down to one daughter too many.

I just read the new chapter and though I've been cured by the zekeydickiosis epidemia (shinzou sasageyo to OG DADDY 🧎‍♀️) NGL this new chapter makes me support Zeke more with Nat. Nat's toxic, and as you said she brings out the worst in people. But the dynamic of her and Zeke's relationship is much better I guess, because at least with Zeke both of them can be honest enough to tell each other how they feel. I mean Zeke's toxic too and hiding a lot of things from her but at least despite him knowing he may die soon, he's brave enough to tell Nat how he feels and what Nat wants to hear. Nsjqkskwosodk idk dude youre messing with my brain HAHAHAHAH how is Erwin and Nat supposed to mend their relationship now? 😂💀😂 Like im so curious how you're gonna do that, its what i look forward to 😌

Jordan - Day 3

The final day of our Jordan trip was certainly interesting! We joined a tour group in Wadi Rum until we ended our day back in Jerusalem. 

We toured Wadi Rum on the back of utes which was suuuuuper fun! I love incredible scenery and I also love sitting, so it was perfect! Plus it was suuuuuuper hot, so not having to walk around the desert in the heat was so nice for a change. The tour took just under two hours and stopped a few times briefly. It was so cool, the scenery was so vast and colourful. Once again, it gave me Nevada, Utah, Arizona type vibes, but other the being in the USA, I haven’t seen much scenery like it. And I mean, exploring the desert on utes is just so much fun! But, just as everywhere, there is rubbish here. It seems so wrong and out of place to see empty water bottles and dirty nappies on the ground in the middle of nowhere in a beautiful desert! But alas, this is the world we live in...

After Wadi Rum, we went to Aquaba which borders with Israel and has the Red Sea at it’s doorstep. The Red Sea! Wow! Of course I had to have a swim! And the water was surprisingly refreshing, not too hot or too cold, just right! So cool to think Moses parted the Red Sea... Not in this specific location, but still cool! Since we were at a public beach, the kids and teenagers all crowded around me. I guess they don’t get many white tourists here? It was quite fun hanging out with them, even though they didn’t know much English. We tried our best and had lots of laughs, they were so sweet. There was a teenage girl called Jasmine and a little girl called Tayla that I spent the most time with. It was so nice to spend time with locals as we haven’t done much of that on our tour. I always try to talk to the drivers to get their local perspective, but it was awesome to see kids and teenagers. We sat with their family under the shade for a few hours and they were so generous, offering us food and drink.

Most people in the Middle East have been really lovely, apart from a few not so nice people, but you get that anywhere you go. I love meeting locals as you get a much richer experience than just talking to other tourists. I’ve had countless people tell me I’m beautiful on the daily, which is so funny because only my best friends would ever say that to me, and not often. I just say it back to them if they are girls or kids, but the men I find a bit awkward, I usually just laugh and say thank you. It does well for my self confidence, but makes me feel awkward when there’s a person from another ethnicity standing beside me who doesn’t get the same compliment.

Unfortunately we had to wait until 6pm before we could go to the border with Israel since we were on a tour and they had a bus for everyone. We didn’t get through the border and leaving properly until 8:30pm, meaning we didn’t arrive back in Jerusalem until 12:30pm... We were sooooo tired... Then we had to check in to our hotel and we had the complication of not being able to confirm a shuttle ride to the airport for me that we had tried to book earlier in the week... They told me I would have to pay $175NZD for a taxi, to which I said absolutely not! So after arguing with the reception guy who was useless and ending up researching myself, I finally got to bed at 2am, then had to get up at 5:45am to taxi to the train station by 6:30am to catch a train to the airport at 6:45am. I arrived at the airport around 7am, then spent two hours in the check in process, before finally boarding my flight at 10:30am...

I’m very much looking forward to being in a bed in Copenhagen tonight where I’ll be staying for a few nights... I need a break! So, it’s goodbye to my mother and The Middle East and hello to Scandinavia!

Sooooo I doubt 3rd playable race: bunny is going to happen cuz literally the only other reason is "They put way too much effort designing them" which like, not everything gets to be Mighty the Armadillo.

The other thing I expect is Marina going "golf rules" and the loser of the final fest is what shaped Splatoon 3 and the villain of the DLC is Pearl similar to what happened to Callie.

Tho personally I think Pearl would be way more likely to just decide to be a villain, like I dunno how much push there'd have to be to make her evil.

I just want to see a boss fight against her cheapo dualey ass... see princess cannon 5.1 or something that'd be awesome.

Some people are saying that the white world is a replication cuz there's no subway or anything and I hope not cuz that'd be so freaking lame. If Chaos won I want at least people to suffer dangit.

Agent 4 might also be a villain, honestly it'd be really cool if all the major players on Team Chaos were villains

Tho I'd honestly love a boss rush where you fight all seven idols... but honestly I'd also like to fight Crusty Sean...

I just hope there's way more boss fights and it's not just reused stuff like in Spla2n...

And they opened with the new song and then they did I'm not okay and it was all so cool and I loved it so much!!! I just gonna drink water though cause I was screaming a lot. But it was worth it!!!!! -eren

Saturday adventures

I already shared some photos from our adventures on our last full day in Iceland, Saturday, but now I will give the full low-down on our day!

We started off by going down to the harbor in Reykjavik, where all of the tourist whale-watching and puffin-watching tours, and other day-trips, depart from.  The first time we came to Iceland, my dad and the kids and I did a whale-watching tour!  This time, we booked a tour called the “Classic Puffin” tour, since we didn’t get to go to the Westman Islands this time, which is puffin-watching central! So, this one-hour tour involved a fifteen-minute ride out to a small island right off the coast of Reykjavik and then thirty minutes viewing the puffins in their summer breeding grounds, on both sides of the islands.  They were everywhere!  Then, after the viewing period, fifteen more minutes were spent cruisin’ back to Reykjavik.

Now, the thirty minutes of puffin-watching was awesome!  There are so cute and so dramatically colored and shaped, with their oval bodies and their big orange beaks. On this rocky, small island, they lay their eggs and pufflings hatch. The pufflings are grey and with our binoculars, we could see them (well, they were the tour’s binoculars, but anyway).  Now, the adult puffins were darting this way and that over the island, out to sea a bit, diving for fish, swooshing above the boat.  It was so cool to see them in action.  On the boat, there were some little books all about puffins and there was a life-like puffin doll, which the MC used to explain a few things about puffins to everyone on the tour. 

Rowan is not the hardiest sea-faring boy; he also gets a bit carsick sometimes.  But, he made it through this boat trip and stayed under deck, as opposed to out in the air and on the deck, for a bit of time. When we’ve taken big ferries, the being-on-a-boat element does not affect him, but smaller boats’ swaying and bopping up and down does affect him.

Anyway, we got back to shore and got our car (we’d used the Easy Park app to park everywhere on our trip and that made it very easy) and drove back to our apartment for a quick pitstop and then we went to the Perlan, which Eric didn’t visit with us a few days before.  We went for a gelato-break!  They had a beautiful ice cream shop on the fourth floor, and on that floor, you can walk the 360-degree deck around the outside of the building and see all of the views.  Eric loved to see that!  We all thoroughly enjoyed our gelato.  Cece got green apple and mango sorbet; Rowan got kiwi and lakris; Eric and I got salted caramel and cookies-and-cream.  It was all sooooo yummy. 

OK, so with our bellies full of gelato, we drove about 45 minutes outside of Reykjavik to the Reykjadalur Valley, where there is about a two-mile hike in, leading to a steaming, geothermal river that people love to soak in!  I am all about soaking in warm water!  So, we started off with the hike, and, wow, it was windier, steeper, and a bit more exposed in parts than I was expecting or than I had hoped.  I can do some pretty solid hikes, but the wind?  I am not a fan. So, anyway, it took us about an hour to do the 2+ miles, which is much longer than usual, but there needed to be some coercion of the dispirited troops. But, behold -- we saw the steaming river and as soon as we were there, morale improved.  Then, we all changed, and into the river we plopped.  Unfortunately, we plopped in not far from a younger American couple who seemed to be not-big-fans of children.  Anyway, I had to advise our children to try to keep the volume down, which they did, and then the 20-somethings moved on after finishing their beers and their chitchat about how they both used to run track in high school. 

The river was not deep; most people just sort of laid down in the water so it could cover all of them.  It was actually quite hot where we were sitting, but you could lay crosswise across the river, and so your feet could be in a “cooler” stream of water and your torso in a hotter part, or vice-versa. I am not sure how long we soaked -- maybe an hour?  What’s great is that, like a typical hot tub, where you’ve gotten yourself all steamed up and cooked, when you get out, you can manage the cooler outdoors temperatures. So, we got dressed without too much duress and then we hiked down.  But, because the hike down was as steep downwards as it had been upwards (obviously), and the terrain was pretty gravelly, there were some episodes of stumbling, tumbling, and plopping on bottoms. 

Once we got back to the car and back to the apartment, it was about 5:45 p.m., and we had plenty of time for a leisurely evening, when the kids could play with the toys one last time and then make sure to sort them in all the little girls’ appropriate bins.  I made dinner and then the kids’ took baths and actually go tto bed rather early.  We had to get up not-too-early on our departure day, Sunday, but we knew it was going to be a long slog, which it was.  We wanted to try to ensure that everyone got as much sleep as they could. I even slept reasonably well, which is not my typical move, on the night before a trip. 

Since we were these Airbnb folks’ first guests, as I noted before, they didn’t really have checkout instructions or much detail at all for what we needed to do with the linens, towels, running of the dishwasher, etc. Eric and I did do an outdoor exploration for their compost bin, which we asked about and were told was on the east side of the yard behind some trees.  Their yard was gorgeous, once we were out looking around it! Someone has a green thumb!  Their rhubarb plants were amazing!  And so much more. 

I wanted to note that the kids were totally taken by a book the little girl had, one book out of a series by French authors, called Barbapapa,  from the mid-70s. Have you ever seen these books?  The characters might look familiar.  The one they were reading was a picture book called Barbapapa’s New House, which perhaps someday we will find in English. Rowan in particular loved the illustrations of the house.  This family also had some utensils and a puzzle with these characters on them.

I also wanted to note that everywhere we went in Scandinavia, as I am sure most everyone knows, they are very strict about sorting garbage for recycling purposes.  But, there were some variations across countries, like, in Iceland, we saw no bins for aluminum or tin, nor for glass. The most extreme example was in Stockholm, where the woman whose house we rented had like five different containers under the sink and even more in her garage. My friend Ryley in Norway is fastidious about it too, as I Imagine most folks are, and sets aside items and collects them, to take in to the center, that they are confused about how to recycle. 

One last observation for now, before my culminating, final-thoughts post, which I will write in a day or two.  In it, I might remark on the kids’ desire to name cars on this trips, particularly our new car (”Marimekko”) and our rental car in Iceland (”Rentilly”).  OK, so my last observation concerns Kleenex or “facial tissue.”  I am not sure whether Scandinavians/Nordic people use toilet paper to blow their noses, or hankies like my Grandma Rose did, but they do not appear to use paper tissues that come in a box, which perhaps is an effect of ecological-mindedness. If anyone can clue me in to what is going on with this, that’d be great.

I am almost finished with this academic year and I cannot wait because then I can do nothing but read in summer because lord do I have a shit ton of books to get through - also I am learning how to crochet!! Idk why I’m so excited by that but I think it’ll be a pretty cool skill to have - I’ve made a few things already with my personally favourite being a chunky bumble bee which is now my pride and joy <33

Anyways how have you been?? What have you been up to recently? I hope you’re taking care of yourself and drinking plenty of water - I do really hope that you’ve been doing good and making sure you’re not overworking or anything <3 sending you all the love and hugs in the world <33-🍯

aw thank you so much!!!! hehehe it’s actually right at the end of april!! <3 but i’m so happy and flattered that you remembered!! it was okay, i ate a lot of really good food and spent it with those i love most so, really, there isn’t anything better than that. my birthday is a very difficult day for me (because of trauma reasons) so my loved ones are always kind of walking on eggshells and are extra gentle on/around it, which i appreciate a lot; i’m very emotional around it and it seems like the smallest thing can send me into a crying fit. my boyfriend gifted me one of those super cute instax mini printers and i absolutely love it to death!!! it’s sooooo cute n so fun c: i’ve already printed a few photos of dabi hehe <33

as taurus season has just passed, that means your birthday must’ve too, so happy birthday my dear friend!!! 🥳🥳🥳 i hope it was as sweet and lovely as you are <33333 oh very wonderful to hear!!! which books are you thinking about reading!? i just absolutely tore through both flowers in the attic and petals on the wind, and honestly while they aren’t the greatest books, they’re so trashy and so pulp fiction-y and i fucking love gothic family horror so!!! i also think they deal with and dissect/criticize some really important yet complex and difficult issues to tackle and while they may not do that with as much poise and grace as higher calibre novels do, they still try.

i’m okay!!! life has been very busy lately, with a lot of ups and downs, and i am still trying to settle down into a solid routine but now i finally have a professional helping me and i think it’s actually going to work this time! either way, i’m determined not to give up!! i’m going to keep trying to establish a good, healthy schedule for myself no matter how many times i fail. i’m going to succeed eventually!! tbh lately my boyfriend and i have just been going on lots of hikes and having a lot of sex LMAO but it’s wonderful <3 i hope you’re doing fantastic sweetpea and that you’re taking care of yourself well and how you deserve to be <3 i love u so much!!!
