Ushijima With A Jamaican S/O!

okay so the first time he heard you speaking patois his brain just.... shut down

what the fuck are you saying? it sounds like english but see because he can only listen to about three english sentences before his mind breaks, he loses track of what you say past the first sentence

it happens everytime a family member calls you — you just.... switch to talking patois, and your poor boyfriend is standing in the doorway of the living room while you’re walking around the kitchen and speaking in all these sounds that make absolutely zero sense to him

it makes it worse that you’re one of the faster talkers (even your family members and friends tell you to slow down because they literally cannot understand a word you’re saying) so whenever he hears you get really excited it just sounds like you’re speaking in cursive

you have these moments where you’ll speak to him, and then if you’re extremely frustrated or passionate with what you’re saying, you’ll just switch to patois without even realizing it. it’s only when you see steam coming out of his ears after you said “no but yuh nah understand weh mah seh to yuh” that you realize what you’re doing and laugh while hugging him in apology

he asks you to teach him 🥺

that’s how he learns that the word bomboclaat isn’t just some weird twitter term but instead a curse word

he starts off fairly well considering patois is kinda broken english, so he can pick up on small things without much help

he understands better than he speaks, but he tries to put in the effort because he’s so interested by it (and by you overall. he loves everything about you. he’ll literally be fine if you say anything to him in patois and he doesn’t even have to understand, he just wants to hear you talk)

he’ll have times when he’ll lie his head on your chest, takes your hand and places it on top of his hair so you can pat him gently, and asks you to talk (that’s a thing between you two actually! just lying on each other’s chests and listen to what they have to say)

he LOVES reggae ( he prefers it over dancehall tbh)

you put on a playlist once during one of your ‘spring cleanings’ (he doesn’t understand why you call it that when you’re doing it in october)

most of the songs are what you heard your uncle play in the yard when you were younger; welcome to jamrock, rocksteady, red red wine and a handful of others

his personal favourite is smile jamaica by chronixx 🥺 it makes him think of you and your pretty ass smile whenever he hears it

when you confess to him that you never really listened to reggae or dancehall much when you were growing up (aside from what you would hear in coaster busses and taxis) he holds your hand and tells you that you both can listen to them together

you love him so much you could cry

you did. you cried because how could one man be so pure and sweet and absolutely wonderful?

his least favourite food is calaloo :( he thinks it tastes too bitter even if he eats it with fried dumplings

he just... you saw the way his eyebrows furrowed in confusion but he continued eating it anyways

when you ask, he looks you dead in the eye and tells you “it’s bitter.”

he still ate it though because you made it

you promise your aunt and mother know how to make it better, but honestly you kinda ruined calaloo for him (he might eat it if you add saltfish though)

but if you give him stew fish and ocra? he eats all of it

i dunno he just seems like that kind of guy

he also loves jamaican curry! your family made it for him when he visited for the first time with white rice

speaking of your family, they love him. all of them were so nice to him when they first met. your uncles shook his hand with the biggest smiles and your aunts all gave him those big hugs with the lil motions where they rock side to side with the hug. each and every one of them welcomed him like they’d know him all his life. he told you later that he was really happy when they all welcomed him like that

your uncles and cousins call him “boss man” and “general.” listen when jamaicans give you a nickname it’s gonna stick. forget your real name, that designated nickname is all they’re gonna call you by.

so anytime you guys visit, he’s the first one they call to, “weh yah deal wid boss man?!” or they dap him up once they get comfortable enough with a “why pree”

the first time he heard them say it he turned to you for explanation, which you told him it’s basically like “how’s it going?”

so you and your family teach him to respond with “mi deh yah” which is like “i’m good.” the first time he says it he actually sounded pretty good! (due in part to hearing you repeat it to whoever you were on the phone with whenever you wanted to hang up.... y’all know what im talking about right? that “yeh man mi deh ere a gwan meds ennuh” when you wanna get off the phone

it was either that or “yuh good though?” those were basically his lil indicators to know when you’re done talking

your uncles tried to get him into playing dominos with them 💀 see i imagine him being absolutely confused the first couple of rounds until he finally catches on, and then he gets into it. you’re just watching him and all your aggressive uncles slam the dominos on the ludi board they use as a makeshift table.

when they offered him a cup of rum he politely declined, but he did get himself a lil bottle of dragon stout to hold on to

when you guys are leaving, he hits them with a “likkle more” (something else you guys taught him to say and you get so excited at how good he sounds!)

in summary, he loves your family and your family loves him 🥰 they always tell you to bring him whenever you plan to visit and when they call they ask about him before asking about you

he basically became their son. you? you’re the stepchild that they forget about whenever he’s around 💀

you’re not complaining, you’re happy they love him so much

and you love him too

I just try to make sure everyone has a great time, cause, like... I’ve done this for years and aside from a few minor incidents regarding OCs/crossovers I drew [going to cringe blogs, oof], I kinda....avoided all the stigma I’ve seen most people go through. I was lucky that, when I got paired off, it was with a character I already liked. So if there WAS going to be trouble, I tended to avoid it. I never found harassment or treated as weird...cause it’s something I did, so I tended to cultivate my circles around that; I had a friend on DA who actively shipped herself with Gin Ichimaru from Bleach. It was normalized for me!!

I only didn’t know there was a name- self shipping- for it until a few years after I got onto Tumblr. Shit! I didn’t know we called it “self inserts”, I was so behind on the update!!!

So to hear all these stories of “I had a friend group, but they controlled what I liked” or “everyone thought I was weird/etc for self-shipping”.... It makes me sad. I wanna bring up the support, y’know? Cause this is a thing that’s supposed to make us happy!!! Nobody else should be able to dictate that! (Which is where spite motivation comes in; if someone is so dogged about you being unhappy, might as well spite them by being happier and continuing to do what you love, despite the other person kicking a fit about it. Too bad, we’re having SO MUCH FUN and you’re gonna spend months trying to make us feel bad; tough luck!!)

...s;ldfkjdksla, I got sidetracked and rambled, but REALLY, UH....THANK YOU!! More than anything!!!! Cause without the friends I ended up making and the fun I’ve had with you guys, I probably would’ve long abandoned and forgotten this blog; randomly coming back on to do something or add more to the queue before going dead silent again.

We all keep each other going and it’s real nice.

headed down to shirakawa-go first thing in the morning!! it’s in the middle of nowhere so the bus ride was really long

well i can’t do much on the bus bc i have motion sickness so all i did was sleep

this place is so scenic holy shit it feels like i jumped right into a painting

kinda disappointed that the place wasn’t covered with snow as advertised but well it’s still a sight to behold

sorry for the crispy pics... i don’t know how to handle harsh sunlight weh

my cousin wanted to pose like the thinker lmao

i was wondering how ppl here make a living?? cuz it’s mainly a tourist spot but it’s not very popular during other seasons i think

even though it’s really cold out i wanted to try the soft serve... it’s the best time to eat ice-cream!!

got the black sesame one c: it was tasty... the cone part tasted mildly salty... kinda like potato chips mmm goes well with the sweetness of the ice-cream

idk why the ice-cream is doing a lean though...

lunch!! i traded my meats for more fish (my uncle doesn’t like fish) but tbh the fish was too sweet and not tasty...

the place we had lunch at had this nice display!! i think it’s a hinamatsuri display but i’m not sure

next stop: takayama

story time: me being a dumb dropped one of my gloves (which i borrowed from my aunt) somewhere and i only realised it 30 minutes before we had to assemble with the rest of the group

i went into the grocery shop where we bought some food from bc i thought maybe i removed my glove there and forgot about it (the gloves are rly bulky and not suitable for tasks that require high dexterity like counting coins)

took a look around and couldn’t find them so i decided to ask the owner (an elderly lady) if she had seen my glove with my terribad japanese

sHE THEN ACTIVATED HER EMPLOYEES TO HELP ME LOOK AROUND THE STORE FOR IT

they even offered to give me their work glove???

i don’t deserve their kindness

anyway it wasn’t at the grocery shop so i told them i’ll look elsewhere

ran at max speed to the family mart

found the glove

guess where i found it

apparently i was looking at tHESE GUYS when i dropped it

clowned myself

since we wasted a lot of time searching for my missing glove we couldn’t visit the shopping area :c

in the end we only got some rice crackers, pokemon cup noodles and beef furikake (for bro) from the grocery shop

but i guess walking around isn’t so bad... the view’s nice

later on when we returned to the tour bus we found out that we were actually walking the wrong way lol we went into some ulu place instead of the shopping district due to miscommunication

so even if i didn’t lose my glove... we wouldn’t have done much shopping anyway

last stop: sky park hotel

the temperature dropped drastically and we started to see snow as we drove up the mountains!!

bus driver and tour guide were kind enough to let us stop in the middle of nowhere to play in the snow (albeit only for 5 minutes but still)

had a fun time scooping up snow from the ground and tossing it around!!

but hey goal achieved!! chi, cha and piff piff have now seen and touched snow!! they acquired bragging rights

when i retrieved the trio their bottoms were caked with snow... brain lagged for a bit trying to think of how to handle the situation

too bad we couldn’t spend more time playing in the snow or i would have made a snow chi :c

after a long and exhausting journey we finally made it to the onsen hotel!! going up the mountain was not fun bc the path was windy bleh

dinner was delicious!! it was buffet style but i had to exercise some self-control so i won’t eat too much... i didn’t wanna feel sick in the onsen

donned the yukata provided before going to the onsen for the Full Onsen Experience

i was expecting them to have a guide somewhere on how to wear it but there wasn’t any so i had to google

i felt like sejima...

ONSEN WAS GREATTTTT ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

i thought the water would be super hot but once i went in it felt normal?? like the normal temperature that i like to take my showers at?? which is hot but not scorching

there were two other japanese girls but they didn’t come in until much later so we pretty much had the entire bath to ourselves

i didn’t realise there was an outdoor bath O: i’m not really sure how healthy it is to have half my body at -8 °C and the other half at whatever temperature the bath water is so i only went out for like 10 seconds to check out the place before returning to the warmth of the indoor onsen

after that it was time to sleeeep

i wanted to sleep on the tatami floor but it was too much trouble to pull the futons out of the cupboard and i didn’t add points to strength so

bed it was!!

ONE and Self Improvement

I just wanted to take this time to appreciate how neurodivergent both of ONE’s main protags are.

Like the “Ambigious Disorder” trope with Mob - and bear in mind ONE has never explicitly stated Mob is autistic, so unfortunately, no one can say it’s Explicitly Canon and therefore Explicit Representation. But damn. It’s so overt, it’s not so much subtext as highlighted text - never outright stated but pretty blatant.

But I also really think Saitama from One Punch isn’t as neurotypical.

Okay. Apart from again the nonexplicit but over coding of Depression. I’m fairly sure Saitama has an attention disorder. He has trouble listening to people. When he says “20 Words or Less”, it’s both a measure of his patience but I also honestly believe it’s a measure of his ability to process information that requires a little more time. We also see him zone out a lot. We see him “hear” people but not quite “process” what they’re saying. We see him usually distracted or doing something else in the background. And he’s canonically seen as a bit of a “troublemaker” in school and at work. Like the first time we see Saitama try to work we others, he just gets yelled at for not keeping pace with everyone else.

When we see Saitama around people of authority, he’s immediately labeled as lazy and disorderly. But it’s not like he’s slow to learn or not working hard. When we see Saitama as an adult, he has surprisingly knowledge about stuff like debt collection laws. He learns at his own pace. These things are *me* markers of someone who’s got ADD or ADHD. A mind prone to being distracted due to lack of sufficient stimulation.

And Saitama not having sufficient stimulation is like *canonically* the source of all his problems and the root cause of his depression.

And here’s where I kinda wish ONE pushed the envelope a bit with Mob. Because Mob is ideal. Like we see people take advantage of him and it’s a recurring problem. But neither his family or his friends - his support network - really care much to fundamentally change him in any way.

And ONE likes to push how it’s easy to blame Society and Other People for personal failings.

But to be frank, that’s a little easy for people like Reigen to scold people like Sakurai about. When you belong to the ethnic majority - or your ethnicity is preferred, when you’re abled bodied and neurotypical, when you present in a way that fits the heteronormative norms, you tend to enjoy certain perks. (Caveat: Reigen and Sakurai might not fit the heteronormative norms or may have hidden conditions not visible at a cursory glance. I’m not saying they don’t because we don’t really see into their identities much. But they seem pretty “ideally average”.)

For the purpose of this meta essay, I kinda wanna talk about Mob not looking typical or within the norms at a cursory glance or interaction. Within meeting Mob, most people notice that he’s not really expressive and “kinda off”. And what I wished ONE did with Mogami Arc was tackle what those issues mean with a desire to self improve.

It’s one thing to blame society when you fit within expectations. You start sounding like well.

Weh, weh. Baby want bottle.

But it’s another thing when you’re not exactly preferred, and you’re considered deficient in some way.

The relationship isn’t of course clear cut. But not everything is a personal failing, and not everything is society’s fault. There’s a bit more of a middle ground especially when it comes to not fitting within the preferred normal.

ONE grapples a bit more with this in One Punch than he did with Mob Psycho. In Mob Psycho, Mob lives in an ideal environment where the people who disparage him for being different are background characters. No one in his immediate circle negatively react to his way of doing things.

And I wish that nuance was introduced. It would have added a degree of complexity to the isolation rather than just “suddenly everyone who loved you don’t exist”. Like, let’s talk about how perceived norms affect how other people react to you. And let’s talk about how that could isolate someone who isn’t in fact normal. This sort of isolation *can still be* in line with Toushirou’s whole let’s take over the world as the “superior being” complex. Probably fits a bit better.

And it doesn’t counter ONE’s whole “you have to do better with your own two hands” message either. Because the thing that One Punch had that Mob Psycho never directly addresses is how other people will fail you. Mob is a sweetheart. He believes the best in people. So much so that people want to be better and do better.

But when you look at Saitama, how he’s effectively isolated himself and been isolated by people through most of his life up until he is 25 , you see a different sort of engine running. Saitama is aware that for the most part, he disappoints the people who work with him. He’s lazy or disorderly. He can’t play well with a team. And how that never stopped Saitama from becoming One Punch Man. He recognized his own personal failings then pretty much ignored what everyone else said. Which is his strength. Even if everyone hates you, keep being kind anyways. Keep doing good anyways. Even if the only person in your corner is yourself.

Anyways. I think ONE is neat.

My review on KH3

Spoilers under the break

Let me start by saying that the game is pretty fun and definitely worth the play. They’ve done a lot right and fixed what needed to be fixed... They just fell flat on a couple of things.

Keep in mind how I play is that I play the story. I don’t do the stuff for 100% or whatever, I just follow the story path. (Jitty will likely being the 100% part now that the game has been beaten) I’m mostly a casual player.

Overall: The graphics were very beautiful. The form changing keyblades were very interesting and fun to battle with. The Disney parade attraction attacks were beautiful and fun to play with. The worlds were large and full, they didn’t feel empty at all. The story was really interesting and complex. The details were great. The bosses were really fun to fight and they looked very cool. The new heartless were all either cute or cool and very interesting- I loved them.

But- There was a lot of fluff to just eat up time unnecessarily. End game bosses were just not fun nor fair (Except the battle the 13 darks, that one was fun and challenging). There weren’t enough save points/stores between cut scenes and battles. Dodging/blocking didn’t feel effective at ALL and some of the enemy moves were just completely unavoidable- There’s not even an action command or something to break out of the overpowered-move or combo. There was a lot of questions left unanswered in the story and a ton of build up to something.... but the ending was somewhat anti-climatic because not everything that they had been building up was addressed. It felt like there weren’t as many new regular enemies in this one compared to the other ones? Don’t know if that’s just me.

Now, worlds specifically.

Hercules: Great world to start with as we finally get much more to the world and lore than we got previously. I’m glad we didn’t just have the whole Colosseum-esque battling thing again and instead got the _world_ and the trio actually learned more about Herc. Battling all of the Titans was freaking epic too.

Tangled: This one was beautiful and fun. I loved getting to explore and play while escorting Rapunzel, it had the nice WinniethePooh aesthetic that I loved. The boss in this one was interesting, but not my favorite.

Toy Story: This one was another fun one and I loved the perspective we were given. I do think that maybe the road could have been made a little bigger as the size difference didn’t quite seem accurate, but maybe that’s just me. Although taking control of the mecha toys was cool, having it be a gimmick throughout was a bit annoying. I loved the doll boss but I would have liked to see her with personality rather than a possessed lifeless toy. UFO boss was fun to fight.

Twilight Town: There... wasn’t much here. It was more of a safe base. I did like interacting with the environment and such. I do LOVE that they added Ratatouille in here by having Lil Chef and having a cooking mini-game where the meals actually gave benefits, that was really fun and definitely what I was hoping for when Lil Chef made an appearance. Other than that... not much to this world honestly. We don’t even go into the copy version even though everyone kept talking about it like we would- kinda fell flat there.

Winnie The Pooh: .... WHY??? Like, okay, I understand that there were people who complained about the Pooh worlds in the other games, but that didn’t mean everyone hated them. I actually enjoyed them because they were very stimulating for me with the exploring and interactive-ness of the world. But this? Why even bother teasing us with putting it in if all you’re going to do is just treat it like the Ariel world in KH2? All that’s here is just one area with a few mini-games, all of which are the same dang mini-game >:C. You even teased us with the Heffalump, being all “oh here’s the heffalump, but you’re not gonna get the plot”. This was such a disappointment... If you wanted mini-games for us to be able to collect these ingredients, honestly you should have just canned the Pooh book and just have the mini-games be with Lil Chef.

Frozen: I really liked the snow physics on this. Everything was really pretty. I didn’t mind that the one song was added either- I figured it would be the musical world since Ariel’s world wasn’t in this one. Boss in this one was really cool too. One thing I do want to mention is it was kinda easy to get lost, granted that most likely because everything looked similar with all the snow.... but maybe a little more indication of where to go would be nice?

Monsters Inc: I really liked their disguises in this one. It’s really weird because I thought there was a Monsters Inc 2 (not talking about the Monster school one), but this one went along with what I remember happening in my mind’s made up sequel. I enjoyed it. The boss was pretty neat and spooky. Only thing is that this is one of the worlds that felt more empty because there were no civilians, but I can understand why in this case because the monsters are so diverse it’d be complicated to add them.

Pirates of the Caribbean: WOW. This was such a surprise because I had my expectations low considering how it was in the other games, but man this was great. The graphics were perfect. I’m so glad that the trio got proper disguises so that they actually blended in with the world rather than sticking out like sore thumbs. Even the heartless got this treatment too, which was great. The water looked amazing, the swimming was fun. I loved the crab scavenger hunt (again stimulation sort of thing for me). The plot wasn’t focused on, it focused on Sora being a pirate which I heard was a better choice since the plot of the movie with Elizabeth was... meh. Focusing on Sora being a pirate just made the whole thing really fun and enjoyable. Also, CONTROLLING A PIRATE SHIP AND DOING PIRATE SHIP BATTLES YES. This world was overall really fun to play.

Big Hero 6: This is one of the more empty worlds as they didn’t have people around (or at least it didn’t seem like it but we may have been moving too fast). The world was also a shorter one. The city looked great and it was neat that there was a day and night cycle. The Dinosaur boss was also fun to fight. Not much to say on this one.

Ending: The 13 darks were fun to fight and Sora’s partners kept changing which was cool. It was nice to be able to fight alongside the other characters. The battles were challenging, but it was nice that after every defeat the progress was saved. It was overwhelming at first, but enjoyable. I do think there should be a save point/store between EACH battle though.

The bosses after that though... all the Xehanorts. WERE NOT FUN AT ALL. They were very annoying, unfair, and looooooong. The last battle was probably the easiest and most fun, but the rest before that was just ridiculous. There also needed to be save points/stores between those phases >:T

After all of that: Why is Sora able to hold mulitple hearts? Why is he able to hold memories that aren’t his? Why do they keep talking about his darkness and being in the abyss? Why is his Rage Form not addressed? Why is he able to DO ALL THIS SHIT??? WHAT IS HE??? Why didn’t we get to find all the new Seven Princesses of light? WHAT IS THE BLACK BOX? A lot of this.... is just not addressed at all and yet the whole game was just building all of that up. Don’t just build aaaaaallllll of that up and then not answer >:U I’m assuming there’s going to be another game??? But weh.

That’s all my thoughts on the game anyway :U I enjoyed the game overall, just confused on some things.
