i don't really know how to word this but like i feel like i'm gonna forever have to deal with the pain and heartache of one of my very first pokémon games- the first 'normal' pokémon game i've ever played, that i will have lasting nostalgia and love for as a result of it being formative to my introduction into the series- being the one that will forever be looked down upon for bad graphics and technical issues as a result of the game having been rushed
like i honest to goodness want to scream and yell and cry into the void about how this means everything to me and will always be one of my fave games just in general. but how am i gonna do that without someone being like 'the broken overpriced mess? the one that's missing all this stuff from the older games that was great? the thing with all the cringe? that one?' or whatever. and the thing is they aren't wrong for their criticisms either like i know the fact that they rushed this wonderful game hardcore is a massive stain on its reputation and it hurts me too but like i cannot turn off the brain full of love in me and be a mean critic. or even an impartial one. i mean i criticize everything i love don't get me wrong i am constantly running my mouth about what i like and don't like. but at the end of the day i approach all media with an unusually optimistic mindset. if you see me talk a ton about something no matter what i'm saying you can bet it means i love it.
just. aaagh. it's always tough being a new fan of an old series. i'm like too embarrassed to express my opinions bc i feel like they're invalid y'know? i feel so exhausted every time i see something to the effect of like 'oh those poor kids these days having to deal with such bad quality everything what a bad time to be a fan of pokémon wow y'all make me feel so old' well see the thing is i actually am thriving and i love it here. and i'm also an adult myself so i have more critical thinking skills than people who played red when they were like five years old did. and even with the power of critical thinking i manage to be in love with this. join me in marvelling at the beauty of life

"I really keep meaning to play ghost trick but I don't really wanna pay sixty bucks for it and looking at the ds version I really love how it looks on there. hey I know, let's just nab a used copy of ebay for the best of both worlds!"
the lowest price for an English copy with no box or anything else, starts at 80USD and only goes up from there.
so there goes that idea i suppose :')

Can we please bully Nintendo into leaving the Nintendo DS eStore open like we did with bullying the Sonic the Movie team into changing the design of Sonic?
Think of all the games that we now can't play because the only modern backwards compatible system is now out of production. Especially the ones that are/were download only.
I commute at least 2 hours to work and back almost every day. And I carry my 2DS with me all the time. Mainly to get the step count so I can get the coins but also to see if I can get a street pass. The switch cannot do that!
I would definitely not bring my Switch on my commute because it's too big and too expensive so it's a big enough target to be snatched. Also, I don't want to damage my switch. Being on a bus that's probably half my age (I'm 20) combined with bad pavement, roadbumps, and bad breaks means that I definitely won't be risking my only modern console. My 2DS is small and sturdy enough for my hands to have a tight grip on it. The Switch does not have that safety...
Also, my phone's battery dies quickly and I normally forget to charge my phone before leaving work so I go play on the DS. The DS is my go to travel console as stated earlier. Also, Switch doesn't have streetpass... Sad. A missed opportunity. One of many that Nintendo have ignored/missed out.
I know I'm on a rant here. I'm angry and sad that Nintendo basically shut down the eStore MONTHS before they said they would ( You can't buy anything since last Monday. I only found out the hard way today. They said they were shutting it down on Feb next year...) and THAT HURTS. (See update)
As someone who likes to spread out the spending because I want to buy the games I want to play, this hurt because I now have to move to Amazon to buy the games whilst using the Nintendo eStore to see what I want. And a lot of the time at a higher price which puts me off a bit. Also, I have A.S.D and A.D.H.D so I'm even more upset as my planning has now gone out the window and I'm stuck with 170+ tabs of games that I was gonna sort through and buy from Nintendo.
And I'm a chicken for not wanting to Homebrew/mod my DS. It was my first console and I don't want to risk anything software wise to my precious. I'm sentimental! Okay! Also, I've never been a good pirate...
Lastly, (never promise on this. It will never been the end of this sadness...) NINTENDO IF YOU INCREASE THE PRICES FOR THE SWITCH STUFF NEW/OLD YOU HAVE YOURSELF TO BLAME! SEE THE FIGURES OF HOW MANY PEOPLE LIKE ME WERE RUSHING IN TO BUY DS GAMES! LOOK ON THE INTERNET AND SOCIAL MEDIA TO WATCH THE VIDEOS OF PEOPLE TRYING TO GET A STREETPASS IN 2022!
I really want to know the figures of Nintendo DS family VS Nintendo Switch Family. Especially from when they first announced that they were closing the DS/WiiU eStore.
NINTENDO! YOU WENT TWO STEPS FORWARD AND ONE STEP BACK WITH THE CREATION OF THE SWITCH! Yes, it's amazing, brilliant, portable ( to a degree), family friendly... BUT not as much as the DS family was.... IF YOURE GONNA SHUT DOWN THE DS ESTORE YOU MIGHT AS WELL MAKE US A BRAND NEW DS CONSOLE THAT CAN PLAY THE SWITCH GAMES. SMALL, DURABLE, COMPACT, STREEPASS, BLUETOOTH/AUX CABLE COMPATIBLE... EVERYTHING THAT THE MODERN DS FAMILY HAS BUT INTO AN EVEN MORE MODERN CONSOLE.
I should've been in bed around an hour ago. But I needed to get this off.... Because I can. And there's a chance Nintendo *might* read/skim through it. And I'll take that chance even it it's 1 percent.

The 2ds (XL) is truly a fantastic— and dare I say, the ideal— handheld console. That is, if you say fuck ninteno and hack it, of course. Which turns out is incredibly easy to do (even though I adhd stalled on it for a couple months ^^;)! It really makes me want to get into programming and making my own mods/roms (。・ω・。)
My only complaint would be the forum sites, which— similar to reddit— do contain lots of lovely and diverse individuals, but tends to attract the types of people you’d actively avoid :/
But for now I’m just going to be playing every game I missed out on as a kid. For free. Because I am a devious and unscrupulous menace to (corporate) society.
