it's just shocking how often people will come to the conclusion that rather it being a SYMPTOM of systematic racism and erasure of people of colour, of rromani people and rromani features and rromani culture that the twins are often coloured as white and with white features, it instead shows that they are actually white americans and whitewashing them is totally fine. like.................. you could come so close to realising how persistent and major racism and colourism in the comic book industry and in the film industry is but somehow it's easier to say that these characters should be depicted as white, never mind that STORM has been played by lighter skinned actresses and often depicted with paler skin and Eurocentric features because comics have a RACISM PROBLEM and this slowly improving and wanda and pietro slowly getting depicted as darker with nonwhite features can only be described as a positive move in the right direction for better representation.

I don’t really have many? I get it as a concept, and I’ve said to @thatsmemate more than once that Max’s most tolerable moments pre 21 were when he was being fruity with Daniel. I’ve also read plenty of it in the background or as a side ship in older britcedes fics. But I also can’t detatch Max’s behaviour in real life from the transformative side anymore. I used to be able to, its still easy to separate George and Lewis as real people, from the RPF we play with where they’re a hell of a lot more willing to fuck other men.

I can’t do that with Max, not with the shit hes done on and off the track. Not with what he enables, encourages or actively enacts. I cant sit and read him being nice and jokey with other drivers, while also having to see him week in week out make the sport more willing to welcome bigots and dangerous driving. I’ve got old wips from like early 22 that’ll never see the light of day that include him and dan, cause whenever i tried to go back to them MANY months ago it felt… just not fun, to write. I repeat: I absolutely defend the art of self-distraction and enjoying frivolous things in times of crisis. Yes, even if "other people do not get to." Me or you suffering a mental breakdown isn't exactly going to be of help to people in war zones. In fact, I dare say, if you want to be fresh for the latest protest or to write or call your asshole congresscritters again or to do anything else to actually try to *help* - you need to be in good enough mental shape to do so. Sometimes (most times) that means distracting yourself from the horrors for a hot second so you don't overload. There is a point where the obsession with "Awareness" turns into "Here, in your face all the time until you develop compassion-fatigue and a doomer attitude." We cannot "first solve all of the world's problems" before we get to enjoy anything. If we worked that that, Humanity wouldn't enjoy anything, ever. The world is always ending - for someone. Crises never end. Sometimes you HAVE to drink your coffee and say "this is fine." Maybe the coffee perks you up enough to help you reach for the fire extinguisher (you forgot where you left it).

The Bot Situation AKA the Tumblr Hydra

Ok, I'm pretty sure we're all aware of the bot situation right now- heck I might be getting more bot notifications as I'm writing this. Blocking and reporting one bot only brings a few more some time later- like cutting the head off the hydra and two more heads coming back.

But, it is getting real bad. As in like straight explicit content- the p*rn bot blogs actual have p*rn, little videos that I have thankfully only seen the top sliver of when I go to the blog to go on my hydra-head block report routine. But sometimes that top sliver does not spare you from seeing what you don't want to see. They all seem to be reblogs originating from a deactivated account, basically them carrying on the will of their banned brethren. Plus these ones leave NOTES (thankfully only likes) on posts, which makes me so glad that I do most of my original content on a side blog and this one is mostly reblogs, so the false hope notes sting less there.

The bots still have some of the basic Google search for "attractive woman" design schemes and just having the first girl name the dart landed on as their name and blog description, so easy to pluck out the bots. But still the frustrating parts:

Even if I stay scrolled up at the top, I still may get a glimpse in that one still visible sliver of some unsavory explicit that personally makes me squick (and from what I'm gathering is unlabelled so minors who really shouldn't be seeing this might be getting exposed to this posting, which is a SERIOUS PROBLEM).

I have to report them TWICE, once for being explicit and once the usual bot report. Sometimes a bit pesky on mobile since it doesn't have the report form that lets you report and block in one act. With those, even though you can report and block in any order, I feel like I always have to block them first so I don't have to see that one sliver of the explicit stuff.

Also, if you leave spam notes like these unchecked, sometimes you'll get them in a big enough batch that you'll get the "and (insert number) others" condensing, which means you'll have a whole little list to comb through.

As you can probably tell from how long I rambled on, I'm tired.
