OK. I found your blog and lemme just say that yOUR ART IS SO COOL!!! (It's inspired me to strive for that level of artistic ability! I mean, your art is just so amazing to look at and i wanna push myself to do better!!) I hope you dont mind me asking, and its ok if you dont wanna answer, but how many years have you been doing art? What kept you motivated to do it? Do you have any tips for younger artists that want to do better? (Also who's your favorite character in Jojo's Bizarre Adventure?)
wH....................... WH......................... THANK YOU?? AAAAAAAA??? Uhhhhhh I’ve been drawing since I was like uhhhh 5-6 years old? I just remember making some good ass rainbows or stuff like croquis in preschool tbh-- and in elementary school, I made/sold 50 cent bookmarks with drawings (Pokemon mostly) on them LOL... I guess I just kept drawing because everyone told me I was the “artist of the class” back then or said I had a knack for it......(Also my fav Jojo character is Rohan atm!)
Also somewhat long ramblin under the cut ifdglfdjg
The way I learned how to draw through tracing and direct observation when I was a kid-- Personally, tracing is bad when you trace over an artist's work and claim it as your own-- but what I did when I was a kid was pull out a sheet of paper to trace over a drawing (specifically a lot of anime characters) to see how the artist drew their line strokes. Then I would pull out another sheet of paper and instead of tracing, I would put the reference next to the blank paper and try to copy the art through direct observation as a "study." Many artists "study" other artworks or photos by mimicking how the art was drawn-- for example, kuvshinov-ilya.deviantart.com/…They don’t trace it though but just look at an image and try to draw similarly like that image. Also Araki does "studies" himself by making small sketches of fashion poses he liked in magazines he picked up as well... I believe that if you keep doing studies, you'll start to understand where to make strokes with your pencil/brush and understand simple techniques you notice in the art such as light source, shading, etc. You'll start to realize that your style has changed to look similar like them-- this is not necessarily a bad thing because it will change even more when you "study" other art styles, thus you're creating and improvising your own artstyle by taking bits of styles you like. I think there’s no such thing as an "original style". My art style change whenever I read a new manga or magazine, watch a new show, or play a new game. I might want to experiment a bold coloring style from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, I might try drawing similar pupils from Persona 5, my character's designs will be inspired by a BAZAAR fashion magazine... or I might try to paint hands like Mucha or Leyendecker’s , etc. Eventually your artstyle would be “recognizable” by people like “Oh that’s ____’s art!”I think doing something similar to ^that might help artists improve, I guess? There’s many artists around my age better than me who might have a different opinion/advice/learned in a different way + my art isn’t like perfect or anythin-- HECK I took only like 2 art classes and no artschool, so take this rambling with a grain of salt... But I hope this helps for some ppl? OTL
