The Joker is Wild is an episode that really doesnt work where it is in the show
the idea that BJ is set off by like. jealous rage or whatever over Hawkeye comparing him to Trapper just doesnt work so late in the show when there's been 0 indication that BJ is jealous about Trapper at all. it feels like it comes out of nowhere, just a half-assed sort of reason given to set him off
ive mentioned this before here and I know its a hot take within this fandom but the supposed Trapper Complex just doesnt exist. in the 8 seasons that BJ is present in the show, I can think of three times Trapper's name comes up around him
Period of Adjustment, where he brings up that he feels like he hates Trapper. should be noted that BJ here is at about the lowest point we see him at, he's in complete despair, and he's also blind drunk. he also specifically brings up that he feels this way because Trapper has gone home- it has nothing to do with Hawkeye
Depressing News, Hawkeye refers to BJ as being the 'same size, same shape' as Trapper, and BJ's reaction can be construed as being not exactly pleased about it. I think this reads more as him just not being happy about literally being called Trapper's replacement, not him being jealous
then, of course, The Joker is Wild
because of this it really just doesnt make sense for BJ to suddenly have this jealousy in The Joker is Wild, not this late in the show. it would've honestly worked so much better if this episode happened back in season 4, because then you could've made that jealousy believable with BJ still establishing himself in camp and Hawkeye still dealing with Trapper's departure. but as it is, set in season 11, it really just doesnt work. its such a He Would Not Fucking Say That episode
#mash#bj hunnicutt#its one of those episodes I want to rewrite cause I think it had all the potential to be a very very good episode#like I said I would've set it in season 4#and I would've made it clear that Hawkeye has been comparing BJ to Trapper a lot#and in some not-so-nice ways where he's said Trapper was better at X Trapper's way with Y was better etc#(not done maliciously of course he's grieving his best friend leaving but it still stings)#and BJ finally has enough when the prank thing comes up and Hawkeye is going on about how great it was when it was him and Trapper#so he decides to get back at Hawkeye with a series of escalating pranks#there wouldnt be a bet element here he wouldnt rope anybody else in on it#he's still new he's still establishing himself and this is him just desperately trying to be seen as his own person#not just Trapper's replacement#and finally he goes too far and it blows up in his face somehow#maybe Hawkeye gets hurt#and everyone's rightfully pissed off with BJ about it! he's been mean he's been acting out what the hell is wrong with him?#and BJ feels fucking horrible about it and explains himself and how he's just so sick of feeling like#all anyone sees him as is Trapper's replacement#at this point implying Hawkeye's not the only one who's done the comparing and everyone can reflect on that a bit#BJ then avoids Hawkeye for a few days because he feels so awful about what happened#until Hawkeye hunts him down and forces the conversation to happen#BJ apologizes profusely and says he was being stupid and Hawkeye's like yeah you were being stupid#but he also admits he was stupid to not see what constantly comparing BJ to Trapper was doing#and apologizes for making him feel like he was just a replacement and not his friend#have a real heart to heart about it!! BJ character depth episode!!#it could've been so interesting the potential was there just not in season 11#a plot line like that just didnt have a place anymore#and im mad about it 40 years later#invents time travel so I can write MASH episodes#anyways.#can you tell I think about this a lot

When it comes to the Dance, Alysanne would have supported Rhaenyra 1000000%. Jaehaerys' willingness to disinherit his daughters in favor of sons was one of the things that caused problems between them the most. Like, as soon as she had Aemon, he was trying to pass him off as his heir, but Alysanne was always insistent that it should be Daenerys.
She also would have been against Rhaenys being passed over in the Great Council in the first place as well BUT I do think she would be somewhat less vocal about that purely for concern of Rhaenys' proximity to Corlys and worries over House Targaryen being supplanted by House Velaryon through his ambition. She would have believed in Rhaenys as an heir but would not have trusted Corlys to put his own family pride and ambition aside for his wife's family to maintain rule, especially if that meant his children would not carry the Velaryon name any longer.

What happens if 13's finger caps break off? They're part of her right? Do they regrow? Does it affect her quirk? We know she can open them without using it, but does she need to be more careful?
I've heard a few different theories, but personally I do think they're a part of her. I don't think they can just break off casually though. The only way to remove them is actual violent force. They'd have to be cut off, rot, or suffer some other horrific trauma to be removed, and I doubt they'd grow back without the aid of another quirk that can do that or some advancement in modern medicine that doesn't exist yet.
If she were to lose any of the caps, I think caution would be the new buzz word used around her. Sure, Black Hole only activates when she makes it, but the lack of the cap(s) means she's one reflexive step short of turning that power on. Plus, just having to see this endlessly gaping hole in her bare fingertip is unsettling on its own.

What if Diluc actually picked up a little Khaenri’ahn, enough to even discern things from context clues should he have enough key words, bc Kaeya kept slipping up and forgetting words in common and would instinctively replace them with Khaenri’ahn until he and Diluc figured out what he wanted to say. Then kept it up like a game bc it was plus Diluc was always super intrigued by Kaeya’s birth language up until Kae realized he was risking Compromising himself if Diluc or Crepus ever realizes Exactly what it was and abruptly stopped altogether-

#duck speaks#dhmis#I know I draw them already but my thoughts on them have changed since then#I think it would be more fun if they had different personalities from the original guys#closer to the personality of the one they got the color from but still kinda similar to the original guy also#kinda like a mix#and also#they are like a glitch that happened when the machine was unplugged and are not supposed to exist#they were probably put away in a separate house until Lesley or whoever figured out what to do with them#but then they were eventually forgotten about and so technically allowed to do whatever they want#I think they probably got like the first 3 or 4 teachers sent to them before they were forgotten tho#also they tried to tear the sketchbook in half so :/#(Green guy didn't take well to being called uncreative tried to tear them up but Red duck tried to intervene only to make it worse I think)#I think if they met the originals (who probably were replaced after the glitch I bet)#things would start to get weird#they are not supposed to be in close proximity to their doubles or they could start to glitch out and stuff#they can meet the other guys from the trio that aren't like the glitch version of themself and be fine tho#they do not particularly like the other versions of their friends tho#they think that they aren't acting right and all that#oh I've also seen people making like#black and white version of the guys too#maybe that's what happens when the doubles get too close to eachother?#the originals can be replaced if this happens#but the swap color ones can't because they don't have backups (again they're not supposed to exist)#so.. yeah#they'd just stay that way#:/#oh well#there's other rgb trios#puppets

I love how much of Kadaj's screen time in OO is just him popping up wherever Seph is and trying to fight. Like, babey boy. You are not being productive to the plot at all, but I appreciate you trying anyway.

There is kind of an interesting difference! Even though Maria and Rom are both holding others away from the secrets not meant for humans (and apparently both have their teachers wheel-chaired...), their attitude is different.
Rom ONLY hurts us if we hurt her. Rom's barrier is penetrable, too - with enough Insight you see Amygdalas, and even can hear Mergo cry! This feels like implication that you ARE, in fact, allowed to see secrets - if you are mentally prepared for them. And if you have so much Insight, you must be... She does not oppose the concept of seeking inhuman knowledge itself (as expected from a Byrgenwerth scholar), but people that don't need it (or will even survive it) should be safe. Same is said by note about her in Byrgenwerth - "something not EVERYONE needs to understand". Again, she attacks us as self-defence, because if she dies - people that did NOT ask for the universal horrors will see them (and Micolash is in danger too. or maybe she protects people FROM him? he doesn't spare people who find him it seems...).
But Maria attacks us on her own volition, and her aim is to "cure" us, because indeed hubris is just as bad as illness. Thirst for knowledge in her eyes is a bad thing - it can lead people to committing atrocities, harming innocent ones, losing their own humanity in the process. Like Eileen seeks to kill blood-drunk hunters before they became beasts - Maria seeks to kill curious hunters before they became deranged madmen (natural predator of Micolash species lol).
So like, 'Seek knowledge if you want to, just don't drag unprepared people into it' vs 'Hubris of the researcher is as bad as illness and death is the cure' :pensive: Brador is like... Either he protects the holy image of Healing Church because it somehow is supposed to HELP people to have an idol (like Logarius), or more likely he just sees inhuman knowledge doesn't truly help people, only makes them suffer in more elaborate ways because nature of man is permanently depraved.
Yeah, headcanons-heavy, but just THINK...

Why did all the big shops decide to have a rattan renaissance right when I didn’t need it
#I bet trying to find rattan homewares when I do need them will be like pulling teeth#Trends are really dumb quite frankly#Everyone just ends up with the same house but then when you try to look for that stuff in a few years it's gone#And it encourages people to buy a load of rubbish and then dump it#Dark wood was all the rage ten years ago but I can't find it now for love nor money#Do people not LIKE the stuff they buy#Do they only buy it because it was 'in' at the time and then they feel like they haave to throw it out when it's out of fashion?#I understand buying what you have to when there's no other option- for example people who didn't really like pine furniture#but that was all they were able to get at the time- I can understand them finally replacing it when something better comes along in ten year#But there's far too many people dumping their stuff for that#I'm too picky though to be fair#I have only the bare minimum of furniture and my house looks really dull because I won't buy something I don't love unless I really need it#But still#If it means that in a few years I DO have loads of things I like which I will keep for decades#Rather than buying stuff I'm indifferent to (and don't really need- I don't mean beds or plates) and chucking it out when it's still good#I suppose that's a cost saving#Still though#I'm not hugely into rattan but there are one or two things I think might want in ten years#When I won't be able ot get them anymore#Unless I wait for them to all be thrown out#Also does anyone remember when shops used to have DIFFERENT stock?#Because currently it seems like everyone is sacrificing at the altar of mid-century modern#And you know there's a place for mid-century modern but it used to be that only some shops went all-in for a style#whereas others were known for something a bit different or had a wider appeal#And even if the style is different the colour scheme is still the same- Cotswold company (expensive) may have 'older' style furniture#but it's all in light browns and grey-greens and blue which is the same colour scheme as every other shop out there#First world problems I know and I'm trying to resist the pressure to have my life and house just organised and done quickly#because these things take time and that's ok and personally I don't actually need all that much stuff#But sometimes family members will very kindly volunteer to go shopping with me#Anyway! That's my selfish rant over for today I just have a lot of Thoughts about homewares and trends and 'fast furnishing'

So You Need To Buy A Computer But You Don't Know What Specs Are Good These Days
Hi.
This is literally my job.
Lots of people are buying computers for school right now or are replacing computers as their five-year-old college laptop craps out so here's the standard specs you should be looking for in a (windows) computer purchase in August 2023.
PROCESSOR
Intel i5 (no older than 10th Gen)
Ryzen 7
You can get away with a Ryzen 5 but an intel i3 should be an absolute last resort. You want at least an intel i5 or a Ryzen 7 processor. The current generation of intel processors is 13, but anything 10 or newer is perfectly fine. DO NOT get a higher performance line with an older generation; a 13th gen i5 is better than an 8th gen i7. (Unfortunately I don't know enough about ryzens to tell you which generation is the earliest you should get, but staying within 3 generations is a good rule of thumb)
RAM
8GB absolute minimum
If you don't have at least 8GB RAM on a modern computer it's going to be very, very slow. Ideally you want a computer with at least 16GB, and it's a good idea to get a computer that will let you add or swap RAM down the line (nearly all desktops will let you do this, for laptops you need to check the specs for Memory and see how many slots there are and how many slots are available; laptops with soldered RAM cannot have the memory upgraded - this is common in very slim laptops)
STORAGE
256GB SSD
Computers mostly come with SSDs these days; SSDs are faster than HDDs but typically have lower storage for the same price. That being said: SSDs are coming down in price and if you're installing your own drive you can easily upgrade the size for a low cost. Unfortunately that doesn't do anything for you for the initial purchase.
A lot of cheaper laptops will have a 128GB SSD and, because a lot of stuff is stored in the cloud these days, that can be functional. I still recommend getting a bit more storage than that because it's nice if you can store your music and documents and photos on your device instead of on the cloud. You want to be able to access your files even if you don't have internet access.
But don't get a computer with a big HDD instead of getting a computer with a small SSD. The difference in speed is noticeable.
SCREEN (laptop specific)
Personally I find that touchscreens have a negative impact on battery life and are easier to fuck up than standard screens. They are also harder to replace if they get broken. I do not recommend getting a touch screen unless you absolutely have to.
A lot of college students especially tend to look for the biggest laptop screen possible; don't do that. It's a pain in the ass to carry a 17" laptop around campus and with the way that everything is so thin these days it's easier to damage a 17" screen than a 14" screen.
On the other end of that: laptops with 13" screens tend to be very slim devices that are glued shut and impossible to work on or upgrade.
Your best bet (for both functionality and price) is either a 14" or a 15.6" screen. If you absolutely positively need to have a 10-key keyboard on your laptop, get the 15.6". If you need something portable more than you need 10-key, get a 14"
FORM FACTOR (desktop specific)
If you purchase an all-in-one desktop computer I will begin manifesting in your house physically. All-in-ones take away every advantage desktops have in terms of upgradeability and maintenance; they are expensive and difficult to repair and usually not worth the cost of disassembling to upgrade.
There are about four standard sizes of desktop PC: All-in-One (the size of a monitor with no other footprint), Tower (Big! probably at least two feet long in two directions), Small Form Factor Tower (Very moderate - about the size of a large shoebox), and Mini/Micro/Tiny (Small! about the size of a small hardcover book).
If you are concerned about space you are much better off getting a MicroPC and a bracket to put it on your monitor than you are getting an all-in-one. This will be about a million percent easier to work on than an all-in-one and this way if your monitor dies your computer is still functional.
Small form factor towers and towers are the easiest to work on and upgrade; if you need a burly graphics card you need to get a full size tower, but for everything else a small form factor tower will be fine. Most of our business sales are SFF towers and MicroPCs, the only time we get something larger is if we have to put a $700 graphics card in it. SFF towers will accept small graphics cards and can handle upgrades to the power supply; MicroPCs can only have the RAM and SSD upgraded and don't have room for any other components or their own internal power supply.
WARRANTY
Most desktops come with either a 1 or 3 year warranty; either of these is fine and if you want to upgrade a 1 year to a 3 year that is also fine. I've generally found that if something is going to do a warranty failure on desktop it's going to do it the first year, so you don't get a hell of a lot of added mileage out of an extended warranty but it doesn't hurt and sometimes pays off to do a 3-year.
Laptops are a different story. Laptops mostly come with a 1-year warranty and what I recommend everyone does for every laptop that will allow it is to upgrade that to the longest warranty you can get with added drop/damage protection. The most common question our customers have about laptops is if we can replace a screen and the answer is usually "yes, but it's going to be expensive." If you're purchasing a low-end laptop, the parts and labor for replacing a screen can easily cost more than half the price of a new laptop. HOWEVER, the way that most screens get broken is by getting dropped. So if you have a warranty with drop protection, you just send that sucker back to the factory and they fix it for you.
So, if it is at all possible, check if the manufacturer of a laptop you're looking at has a warranty option with drop protection. Then, within 30 days (though ideally on the first day you get it) of owning your laptop, go to the manufacturer site, register your serial number, and upgrade the warranty. If you can't afford a 3-year upgrade at once set a reminder for yourself to annually renew. But get that drop protection, especially if you are a college student or if you've got kids.
And never, ever put pens or pencils on your laptop keyboard. I've seen people ruin thousand dollar, brand-new laptops that they can't afford to fix because they closed the screen on a ten cent pencil. Keep liquids away from them too.
LIFESPAN
There's a reasonable chance that any computer you buy today will still be able to turn on and run a program or two in ten years. That does not mean that it is "functional."
At my office we estimate that the functional lifespan of desktops is 5-7 years and the functional lifespan of laptops is 3-5 years. Laptops get more wear and tear than desktops and desktops are easier to upgrade to keep them running. At 5 years for desktops and 3 years for laptops you should look at upgrading the RAM in the device and possibly consider replacing the SSD with a new (possibly larger) model, because SSDs and HDDs don't last forever.
COST
This means that you should think of your computers as an annual investment rather than as a one-time purchase. It is more worthwhile to pay $700 for a laptop that will work well for five years than it is to pay $300 for a laptop that will be outdated and slow in one year (which is what will happen if you get an 8th gen i3 with 8GB RAM). If you are going to get a $300 laptop try to get specs as close as possible to the minimums I've laid out here.
If you have to compromise on these specs, the one that is least fixable is the processor. If you get a laptop with an i3 processor you aren't going to be able to upgrade it even if you can add more RAM or a bigger SSD. If you have to get lower specs in order to afford the device put your money into the processor and make sure that the computer has available slots for upgrade and that neither the RAM nor the SSD is soldered to the motherboard. (one easy way to check this is to search "[computer model] RAM upgrade" on youtube and see if anyone has made a video showing what the inside of the laptop looks like and how much effort it takes to replace parts)
Computers are expensive right now. This is frustrating, because historically consumer computer prices have been on a downward trend but since 2020 that trend has been all over the place. Desktop computers are quite expensive at the moment (August 2023) and decent laptops are extremely variably priced.
If you are looking for a decent, upgradeable laptop that will last you a few years, here are a couple of options that you can purchase in August 2023 that have good prices for their specs:
14" Lenovo - $670 - 11th-gen i5, 16GB RAM, and 512GB SSD
15.6" HP - $540 - 11th-gen i5, 16GB RAM, and 256GB SSD
14" Dell - $710 - 12th-gen i5, 16GB RAM, and 256GB SSD
If you are looking for a decent, affordable desktop that will last you a few years, here are a couple of options that you can purchase in August 2023 that have good prices for their specs:
SFF HP - $620 - 10th-gen i5, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD
SFF Lenovo - $560 - Ryzen 7 5000 series, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD
Dell Tower - $800 - 10th-gen i7, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD
If I were going to buy any of these I'd probably get the HP laptop or the Dell Tower. The HP Laptop is actually a really good price for what it is.
Anyway happy computering.
