xf rewatch: jersey devil & shadows

Two early-series stinkers (affectionate) that, at least in the case of Jersey Devil, have achieved cult status or at least meme status for generally being enjoyable as hell. I imagine Fox executives side-eyeing a little, like, what is this, bring back those Squeeze guys or that Chris Carter who wrote the first couple… Really? Uh oh.

I have a deep and abiding love for Shadows partly because I once wrote a recap of it for a fan project, and being me I watched it like 85 times while taking copious notes and turned in a probably 10,000-word analysis, so I know it very well. I DO feel my love for it is justified, partly in its campiness and general silliness (GHOST BOSS. BLOOD BATHTUB. MURDER… AT THE ATM [MACHINE]) but also because Mulder and Scully are great in it, really Detectiving the hell out of the case, interviewing a hilariously mannered and conveniently expositional cemetery groundskeeper, doing a face-to-face with the medical examiner (Howard Graves… Is Very Dead) (she is my favorite, I say this every time, RIP Lorena Gale), and really using their combined powers of Believing and Skeptical in convincing Lauren to cooperate. Yes, there are TWO entire scenes where Scully misses the paranormal thing by seconds; yes, Mr. Dorlund is transparently evil to a ridiculous degree; yes, Lauren wears A LOT of Laura Ashley-ish florals (and this is the episode of Scully's glorious Halloween outfit of black suit, orange blouse, white tights; ah I love it). But, look, at the end, the case is over, and Mulder is like, well, case is over. Should we maybe go see the Liberty Bell? How often do we get to see scenes like that?? For that bit alone I love it, and that's without the Mulder slo-mo (in all of our hearts) jacket swing, Scully's Poltergeist impression and general horror-movie knowledge at the ready, Mulder with his feet on the chair, once again Dr. Ellen Bledsoe being the greatest, Mr. Dorlund getting his uh, wrist squeezed very threateningly with his uh, gold bracelet, by a ghost, Mulder's UNNECESSARILY flirty move of swinging his arm around Scully and breathing on his glasses to show her he snagged a fingerprint… ah it's great. Forget those Squeeze guys, hire these dudes! …They what? OUTSTANDING news.

One more thing I find amusing about Shadows is, I recently was reminded of Glen's ancedote that it came out of a note they got that Mulder and Scully needed to help people. Heheh. "This bitch needs help, get in there, you jerks!" I yelled at Mulder and Scully in multiple scenes this time through. I'd say Ghost of Howard Graves ultimately did more helping in the end, with his supernatural powers, but they tried. And they managed to stop saying vaguely flirtatious dialogue while staring intensely into each other's eyes long enough to at least give her a little encouragement I guess.

I skipped right over Jersey Devil, which is also a silly episode but, honestly, I think comes off better of the two of them. On the other hand, would I say that without the legendary appearance of the Bigfoot Titties drawing? Hard to say. I should add that Mulder and Scully are CRIMINALLY adorable in these episodes, still in their rosy-cheeked (or over-blushed), round-faced big-eyed high-voiced toddler days, and it is difficult to imagine that THE UNIVERSE COULD CONTAIN anything cuter than the last scene (Who was that on the phone? A guy. Same guy as the other night? Same guy. What are you doing, Scully? Going with you to the Smithsonian.) Despite them referencing (in BOTH these episodes) the having or not having of a life (side note, I can't express how common the phrase "get a life" or "he has no life" were back then; that was like cool slang man), vestiges of said life-having remain, with Scully having girl talk with Ellen (I remain obsessed with that exchange: "I thought you said he was cute"/"He's a jerk. …He's not a jerk. He's obsessed with his work"), The Date, Scully's old professor (wonder if she fucked that one. ha), and even more subtle things like Mulder saying "Thanks, Fran" after signing out a car. (Other people work at the FBI! And Mulder and Scully know their names!) (I also found endearing the extremely quick shot of the comics that Fran has taped to her desk. Very nice little set detail.) It all feels so ordinary and workplacey, which I am finding really enjoyable; it's like, a normal government office where people work, and Mulder and Scully also work there, and it just enhances it (enhance!!) when they're working a case and suddenly like a ghost causes a car accident. Or when a hot naked lady (I was impressed with how clear her ass was in the iTunes version of this; I suppose they didn't really bother to blur it back in the standard-definition days and I guess now we are all enlightened in the seeing of asses on TV) attacks Mulder in a dramatically lit warehouse. (Hey baby, come up to Vancouver, you can be on my show! Is something I suspect DD said a lot in the early to mid 90s.)

I'm really not trying at all with this post, sorry. I will wrap up with the revelation that, at least according to the procedural forensic efforts of my friend and me, Bill Dow who plays Chuck Burks plays NOT ONE, BUT TWO DADS in this episode — the guy in the 40s, and the guy at the end hiking with his kid. (Same kid too, I think.) Yes? No? Why isn't Chuck Burks on the convention circuit? Is my question.

Randy struggled to hide shock from Jamie.

Seeing that Jamie was searching facing away from them, he met his wife's eyes and gave her a warm smile.

Akoya sighed lightly.

Midaaaas!

The pink-and-blue Mew perked up his ears, his tear-stained eyes opening wide.

(Mamah?)

His companion, a fluffy pink and russet Mew, also looked toward the calling voice. A purr was rattling from her in an attempt to calm the poor child she'd come across and curled around reassuringly.

Suddenly the young Mew bolted, startling his companion into silence.

(MAMAH!)

Midas slammed into his mother's chest. His voice came out as a whimper.

(Mamah...)

After a brief shock, Akoya smiled and hugged the little Mew close under her chin, and her eyes welled with tears. Midas... Oh thank Arceus...

Midas' fluffy companion flew up and nuzzled Jamie's head. Before Randy could comment on her, the girl gave her a startled look, but quickly recomposed herself.

(Hey, Jamie! Good to see you!)

It's good to see you too! But... a little surprising. Randy caught the quickest dart of her eyes in their direction. Clearly she was implying something, but what that was, he had no idea.

The stranger Mew smiled at the three newcomers. There was an... odd gleam in her eyes, but she turned back to Jamie, not giving any chance to ponder it.

Randy and Akoya exchanged glances. There was no avoiding it this time. She'd caught them all red-handed.

The man sighed. Yes, we all understand it.

Akoya's face turned serious, although she couldn't hide the shock she'd received. How did you know?

Educated guess. You reacted when Clover mentioned the bag. The red-haired girl met Akoya's eyes, but she appeared neutral, rather than hostile. Randy noticed that that subtle curiosity had returned.

Beside him, he saw his wife shudder. ...I don't like how sharp you are...

Much to Randy's surprise, Jamie gave a regretful smile. Force of habit. She took a snappy breath, as if to recenter herself, and straightened her postured. Shall we move on to the house?

The three Lindens looked at each other and nodded, and they set off again. But before they went far, Jamie turned to look at Akoya once more.

...So, did Midas call you "Mama"?

Feeling a wave of exasperation from Akoya, Randy answered for her, desperate to escape this weird dance of secrets they'd ended up in. We'll explain later. Can we just get somewhere where we can breathe?

The group continued on as the sun began to sink. Jamie's fluffy Mew buddy, Pari, floated leisurely around them, sometimes humming happily, sometimes picking up a chat with Jamie. Sometimes they would pass folks on the road, and Pari would wave cheerfully or let them pet her as she purred.

Randy realized then what Jamie had meant about this being a safe place for Midas to be lost at. Clearly the locals were used to having a Mew around--or two, if Jovie was as friendly and close to the people as Pari. Some Pokemon that roamed close by would come greet Jamie warmly, happy to see her back after her time away. And Randy caught glimpses of a deep, genuine smile on her face as she talked with them

He sighed, wishing things could be straight-forward, and hoped the two parties could soon find a comfortable middle ground.

He felt a gentle hand take his own, and looked over at his wife, unable to resist a soft smile as he met her eyes. Her other arm was tucked into her jacket to support Midas, who had refused to go back into the bag and was now hidden in there. Randy had taken possession of the bag.

He looked to his other side at Lav, who seemed as drained as he was. She'd been very quiet since they arrived, and he longed to pick her brain. But now wasn't the time. He felt a pang of guilt that she'd been so sidelined by all this.

He placed his hand on her far shoulder, looking for a cue that a hug would be okay. She turned up to him with tired eyes, giving a half-hearted smile and leaning into him. He tightened his grip around her.

As they walked, seeing their escort and new Mew companion at ease with the residents, his children safe in their arms and his wife and best friend by his side... he felt a deep peace settle in him.

Once they could get all the secrets and misunderstandings out of the way...

It wouldn't be so bad here.

WIBTA for calling building management on our new loud neighbors?

We have new neighbors in the apartment next door and my roommate and I share a wall with them. We have never met these neighbors beyond knowing they only moved in fairly recently. Like most of our neighbors in this apartment building, I will be polite if I encounter anyone in the shared staircase but I don't feel the need to introduce myself. Our walls are not thin at all as we never used to hear neighbors next door this much even when having house parties.

These new neighbors keep getting into extremely loud fights that we can hear through our wall.

My roommate and I can hear clearly that there are two people absolutely screaming and shouting at each other. Sometimes these fights devolve into someone seemingly just non-verbally yelling out (in pain?). Almost always end with one of them going "I'M SORRY! I'M SORRY! I'M SORRY!" ad nauseam until the noise dies down to an inaudible level. They're having a fight like that right now as I write this AITA out.

I would love to mind my own business, but it's hard when I can hear two people screaming bloody murder at each other right next to me. Unfortunately, I have trauma about situations like this, particularly about loud arguments happening in the same building as me (thanks mom and dad), but also trauma about confronting potentially violent neighbors.

(To make a long story short, when I was still living in the suburbs a few years ago I confronted a loud neighbor who was always shouting and screaming that could be heard houses away. I learned the hard way that the loud neighbor was an abusive father. I did manage to help the teenage victim out of that house for some time, yet my life was repeatedly threatened by that abuser and the rest of his family while the local police did nothing as they agreed with his "discipline". I have since moved out of those shitty suburbs and into the city. Last I heard that victim - who was my age at the time of the confrontation - has moved out and joined the military.)

With that context in mind, I'd really really rather not knock on my neighbor's door asking, "Hey, new neighbors, can you quiet down your shouting and screaming at each other so I can't hear it through our wall every hour of the day? Also, are y'all good in here?"

(I'd rather not have a weapon pointed at me again.)

I am absolutely not calling the police as they will not do anything and I don't want to ruin anyone's life over a possible misunderstanding. I am hoping that all this yelling truly isn't anything - maybe they're just gaming and having heated gamer moments. But at the same time, all this yelling real triggering for me, and so I'm considering calling our apartment building management to check in on them. I am aware building management may not do anything either, but at least it would be something? Maybe I should leave note on my neighbors' door or something?

WIBTA for calling building management to check in on our constantly fighting neighbors? Or should I just suck it up, stay in my lane, mind my own goddamn business, and learn how to cope being triggered every other hour by screaming through my nearest wall?

My thoughts/input/extra info on Equiliberty

Hi! Some of you may know I used to be a mod for the discord server, Equiliberty, under the name Nattie | Lone Pine Estate. I’m just going to share the truth and everything that I know from an inside perspective. Everything I say here i have screenshots to prove, I’m not sure how that is classified as “fake drama” or “doxxing”. These screenshots have been passed around as i wand to help spread awareness. There’s more, but this is the gist.

Doxxing definition:

“Doxxing is a form of online harassment that means publicly exposing someone's real name, address, job, or other identifying info without a victim's consent.”

Nobody has done the above, and as usual, proof has not been shown.

The Name Change

Cath/Catherine/Jocelyn/Moe/The Evil Queen/Aaliyah. These are all of her alt’s and name changes. She repeatedly changes her name each time we call her out and post real, true, screenshots while she’s provided none. Her CC page is also called Cath’s Creative Corner, but that may have changed too. Maybe we can all make it a game to see how many fake names/alts we can get her to. Starting number is 5!

The Alt

She then claimed to have a trans friend so therefor she could not be transphobic, (Fr? Lmao), then said “friend” joined Equiliberty under the name “The Evil Queen”. This friend was later found to be yet another alt of Jocelyn’s. The wick bot marked this bot as suspicious when joining as well (detects alt accounts on the same IP), and screenshots have been shown that this was in fact Jocelyn. Matching messages, typing the same (same typos too), same emojis, etc. i find this especially ironic because she claimed we were all childish and needed to grow up.

Clearly, she needs to work on that too.🥂

The Auction

Moving on, she also sniped an auction from Pea by essentially abusing her admin powers and lying. The auction ended at 1, she sent her message at 1:10 and thought that putting a time in parentheses would make it better/legit. She claimed that it was a time zone flaw. Then all of a sudden, it was a network error. So many excuses, so little real explanation. We asked she provide a screenshot to show her time zone, and she denied. This all blew up and messages were deleted while she shushed everyone involved.

The Pronouns

Jocelyn had said many times in a private staff chat that she did not use pronouns other then “she/her” or “he/him”, and that “they/them” is pushing it and she probably wouldn’t use that either. Another member had agreed, but I’ll keep their identity quiet. She thinks all of this is being shoved down her throat, that she doesn’t agree, and will not be forced to use them.

The Hiding

She has also actively hides all the “fake drama” in Equiliberty. She has been seen using a bot to delete messages, delete channels, muting members, and banning for asking questions. I’ve also been told she may have banned a member while they were simply checking their banking balance. When she’s wrong, she demands everyone to “BE QUIET” or “STOP TALKING” and will delete the messages.

The Banning / “Competition”

Jocelyn thinks other horsie sims 4 servers are competition and that hers should be the only one. She banned every single mod/staff of a fellow server simply for being a mod there, because she heard word they were talking bad about her. In the process, they accidentally banned an innocent member. Rightfully so, they were upset. When mentioning another server, you’re muted or asked to stop. When posting on social media, she will say her server is better and that there’s no need for others.

In all honesty, I think that comes from her being in TS3 servers, felt important, and wanted to have her own “big server” like Equus or Equiality (if i even spelled this correctly).

My Faults

She recently tried to “get back at me” by posting our chats about conversions in the past. I am happy to say I do not do this anymore and will not share this content. I have had a chat with a creator (who I am keeping neutral in this situation, purely an example), and have provided screenshots showing that I do not distribute or convert cc any longer. Id like to apologize to creators who’s cc i converted and I can promise from my side and my private server (again, that I shared with the creator), it will never happen again. Jocelyn also wanted to convert, asked for help, tutorials, etc and I believe it was to get back at people in TS3 that hurt her or upset her.

I deeply apologize to any and all I hurt in the process.

Conclusion

I hope this reaches the right audience and members of Equiliberty, others, and more see the truth. I do indeed have an alt on the server purely to update my pose packs to share with everyone else. I’ve seen your server Jocelyn, it’s dying and you caused it.

This will be my last and final public post in tumblr about it. I’m keeping this back on track and relevant now. As I said before, I do indeed have screenshots of all this. I’m ashamed I sat in the dark watching her do all of these things in private and public.

I’m no longer watching in silence.

Ok, I got the Guide to the Dragon World and I'm gonna talk about it in full now.

Spoilers if you haven't read the book.

I feel about it the guide the same way everyone else does. Either I or the advertisements and delays hyped up the book too much, and I was expecting more in depth stuff, but the guide in itself is a 10/10.

I like the prolong, as it talks about how dragons lump the tribes into stereotypes and this book is a way to stop that, with stories from all the other tribes. I do wish the annotations from the other dragonets of destiny were more frequent.

The scorching story was fine, but would have been more impactful it we didn't already know the more detailed story.

Pyrrhia:

The maps are cool, very detailed, kind of wish it labeled the old Seawing Island palace, considering it labeled the old Nightwing palace.

Mudwings:

The Mudwing chapter is the most well done, with a story of the stereotypes of the Mudwings and then a note of the true life of the Mudwings, followed by two stories about things we heard about in the books, like the Mudwing Succsession crisis and how they found out about the blood red eggs being fireproof.

The Mudwing Succession story also tells us some extra things about mudwing life: Most Mudwing villages have a school and they have a naming ceremony to name themselves after they are old enough to know about Mudwing life.

Sepia's scroll does show one thing: we actually know a fair bit about Mudwing life, about as much as the Skywings or Sandwings, the problem is we don't spend any time with the Mudwings or their kingdom. Like we didn't know how they named themselves, but we also don't know about the Sandwing full moon festival or Skywing schooling, things that probably wouldn't come up outside of a guide like this.

Seawings:

Queen Coral still sucks. We do find out that Coral allied with Blister because Blister gave the Seawings treasure and battle plans and, most importantly, read and memorized all of Queen Coral's scrolls and said she loved them. Apperently Queen Coral is trying to tell everyone that the Seawings had a big hand in ending the war and were a part of the dragonet's plan.

Moray tells Queen Coral that Starflight might want some Seawing history written by someone other then Coral. I like how in this and Talons of Power, Moray doesn't just worship the grown Coral walks on, but actually disagrees with her sometimes and tries to tell her no.

Queen Coral tells us about some of her scrolls. Some we heard of, some we haven't, they were cool.

We also get some letters between Albatross and Queen Lagoon, they don't really tell us much we didn't know about.

We then get a scroll about learning the beginnings of Aquatic. It was alright, I don't really care about the Seawings all that much, but it was cool.

Turtle was assigned to write about Seawing customs, but he turned it in too late and had to send in a letter from his brother instead. That was rather annoying to me, "oh no we can't learn the full details about Seawing culture for some reason, lets just learn about hatching day events."

Anemone tells Tamarin about how she misses her and the Seawings main weakness is not being able to communicate with other dragons as well. Also we have blind scrolls now!

I don't really care about the Seawings that much, they're probably my least favorite Pyrrhian tribe.

Rainwings:

The Rainwing chapter starts with a story from Kinkajou about Silver, Glory's pet sloth, and how Silver met Glory and helped her. Silver is clearly a stand in for Kinkajou, it also has parentheses around notations of her talking to Moon about how to write a story, and isn't technically very well written. I really like the story. I'm not really someone who wants a new story with Kinkajou in the lead, but it was fun.

We then read the "Dangers of the Rainforest" scroll, with a few annotations from Glory about how the Rainforest isn't so dangerous and the Rainwings can be dangerous if they wanted to. I like how the scroll is one mentioned in the series, specifically The Hidden Kingdom, and is accurate to the description, it barely mentioned the Rainwings themselves.

Handsome tells Glory about the story of the Royal Rainwing Challenges and how they started. The Rainwings used to fight for the throne in the death matches that every other Pyrrhian tribe did, and then they went through eight queens in a month, and the ninth queen said we should stop the death fights, as if we kill all the strongest, smartest Rainwings, we won't have any smart, strong Rainwings left, so they devised different, non deadly challenges. We learn about a few more: The storytelling challenge, the cooking challenge, and the sloth taming challenge.

Jambu then tells us about different colors on Rainwings and what they mean. It also notes the usefulness of this, as if you are in trouble or if you feel bad, your friends will know and can help.

We then learn about how the Rainwings didn't know how to read and write for a while, but they did tell oral stories, either about history or just new, made up stories, and how Starflight realized how creative and deep the Rainwings could be.

However, in the past, the Rainwings could read and interacted with other dragons and got into wars, and then we read the letter about what happened to the Rainwings.

The letter is Python, the great-aunt of the current Rainwing queen, Queen Jacaranda, the granddaughter of Queen Anaconda, the Rainwing queen in Darkstalker's time. Python is upset that Jacaranda is abiding by the peace treaties and dismantling the army and saying that venom can no longer be used on other dragons. The Skywings took a lot of rainforest and killed about half the Rainwings, although Python says that they Anaconda would have fought even if she was the last Rainwing left. This does explain why the Rainwings are pacifists, but doesn't explain why they stopped reading or interacting with other tribes, I guess that was the fault of the queens Grandeur let on the throne, but everyone talks like the Rainwings fell apart a long time ago.

I do like how the Rainwings are written in this book compared to the Hidden Kingdom. The Hidden Kingdom has a problem of saying the Rainwings are bad for things that aren't bad at all, like not having a Rainwing palace, or Suntime, or not eating meat. Hidden Kingdom may have been trying to say at the end that the Rainwings are fine, they just need to still fight if nessesary, but I did not find it very clear.

The guide book tells us that the Rainwing traditions make sense actually, and even thought they can't read, they can still tell stories.

It also seems like the story of how the Rainwings changed was a bit retconned. In the third book, Grandeur said that they used to keep track of the royal eggs, but her daughters were useless, so they opened the throne to everyone, but then the only ones who signed up were bad queens. Earlier Grandeur said that in her day, the Rainwings used camoflauge to hid from tribes who wanted to take their rainforest and she wouldn't mind using her venom on the Nightwings, so I think the original plan was that the Rainwings fell apart with Grandeur, but then it was changed to show how the Rainwings aren't bad, just different.

Nightwings:

I enjoyed Tales of the Nightwings, but it is different from how the novels describe it. We didn't know much about it to be fair; it was Starflight's favorite scroll, it mentioned some stuff about Nightwing schools, and we found out it was all untrue after finding out Nightwings couldn't really read minds or see the future, at the time. This made it sound like it was a scroll about the fake life of the Nightwings, but instead it was a story about a Nightwing who didn't have any powers, got bullied, and then had a vision that saved everyone. This would be fine, but then the comment about none of it being true doesn't make sense. I get that they were talking about the powers in general, but its not written as a true story. I would have liked it more if it was a bunch of supposedly true stories about Nightwing life.

Moon tells Starflight how Nightwing powers work, we know all of it so I'm not gonna go over it.

Glory and Deathbringer talk to Mastermind about why Nightwings think the way they do.

Apparently some of the Rainwings are ready to forgive the Nightwings immediately, I hope these are the ones who weren't imprisoned because otherwise, why. At least he knows he did bad. Mastermind is kind of like Darkstalker in my eyes, a dragon who is bad and did bad things, but because he has a character outside of evil, some people don't think he's bad.

Nightwings are taught from birth that they are the best dragons genetically and because of their powers. Mastermind also seem surprised that the other tribes don't think that way about their tribes, at least not to that extent.

They didn't just ask the Rainwings for help because they knew almost nothing about them, and when they found out about Rainwing venom, they assumed the Rainwings were dangerous and were also afraid to show weakness, since they talked about how strong they were. It's interesting that in both this and Prisoners, most Nightwing take the Rainwings seriously, which makes me think that the Nightwings told everyone Rainwings were lazy to keep everyone away from the Rainwings.

The good of the Nightwings is their love of learning, and how they were the first tribe to develop a written language, and take medicine seriously, and they used to help the other tribes with their visions.

We then get a note from Fierceteeth about the new Nightwing colony, Renewal, for the purposes of starting their own tribe with their own queen instead of merging with the Rainwings.

Fierceteeth seems to try to make herself tougher then she is, talking about how hard it is to live here instead of the Rainforest, as if bragging, and how she says she doesn't care about Nightwing history, but the island was cool. The Nightwings have also become nocternal, waking up late in the day and hunting through the night and then goingg to sleep shortly after sunrise.

Fierceteeth is also interested in the theater, as no one on the island was ever taught anything artistic, just "science, superiority, and survival," which is interesting, the Nightwings are trying to put on a play, and Fierceteeth says she'll send Starflight some tickets if it works.

Also Fierceteeth has eggs, and she says Starflight is invited since he's the only family Fierceteeth has left. She seems excited about said eggs, which is not something I expected of her character. I think it cute and she seems to care about her brother more then she lets on. Also we learn the Skywings have big hatching day parties, probably courtecy of Queen Scarlet.

We then get a scroll from Renewal about Queen Vigilance's glass jubilee. Vigilance brought back the Full moon festival and has musicians play during it. The festival celebrates the gifts of the tribe. Each seer offers a future vision, and the mind readers share the thoughts of adoration to the queen. Queen Vigilance also made an island temple to the first nightwing librarians, and hopes to have the glass jubilee continue.

We can see that in the past, the Nightwings still though of themselves as the superior tribe, both in arts and science. I also like the inclusion of the island temple, no one seems to talk about the Nightwing temple in the discussion of religion. Also I like how this is clearly propaganda, I bet Vigilance's children are bad at playing and no one was thinking of her.

Sandwings:

Yeah, I'm with everyone else on the Sandwing chapter, it's the worst out of the book. It doesn't tell us anything about Sandwing life and culture.

We get a flyer asking if anyone knows about the missing treasure, the Desert Tiara, the Twilight necklace, the Sandwing Septer, and some assorted gold coins with Queen Oasis's face on them.

Then we see a letter from Sunny about Burn's creepy hall, the hall contained the white dragon with no wings that was said to be a Icewing Sandwing hybrid, but Sunny doesn't think so. She doesn't think their a Silkwing, because they only have two wingbuds, so either they're from a non heard of tribe, or an animus enchanted dragon. This is interesting, because I thought the white dragon was a Silkwing until graphic novel 5, when they just looked like a Icewing with no wings.

She also has a dragon bite viper skin, a fish tank full of odd looking fish, a blood red Mudwing egg she planed on destroying on the brightest night, but it never hatched, a Silkwing wing, and the Stuffed Nightwing, who bragged about having an animus object, the dreamvisitor, and wouldn't give it to Burn, so she had him killed, but she could never find the dreamvisitor because they swallowed it.

We did learn about some new treasure and more about the "hybrid" and the wing and how the Nightwing got here and about some more stuff in Burns collection, so there's that.

We then get Smolder's diary, from the first week after the death of Queen Oasis and how he raised Flower. This is my main problem with the chapter, the big story doesn't tell us anything new about the Sandwings. The Mudwing sucession scroll told us about Mudwing schools and how they get their names and royal life. The Skywing scroll of Queen Scarlet's husband told use about Skywing families and Queen Firestorm, but we don't get anything in Smolder's story we didn't already know. If we did, I would be more lenient to this chapter, but it doesn't

Tell us about the Full Moon festival, or the Sandwing animus gifts, or how Jerboa III met Queen Glacier or something. Burn's weirdling tower was a cool idea, but it's not enough.

(Long ah post) Re-did my monster taxonomy again, now with more ranks and specificity. I shall now go into more detail about everything on there. Some taxons are grouped together for lack of anything differentiating them. Things in italics and parentheses are out of universe notes, everything else is information known to the monsters. Also yes this does mean the scientific names for the old monstiary pages are almost all inaccurate again.

Monsters are under the domain Monstra. To be put in the domain you need to be sapient and capable of breeding, some exceptions may be made for certain monsters that are clearly monsters but can’t breed. (The chart is nearly the same as the ones that are used in the modern day monster world, but the exact arrangements of species may be changed as some “monsters” aren’t even monsters but most don’t know that nor have a way to find out. Divina was added after the Wubbox were discovered, thus the addition of the last part of the previous in-world sentence as they can’t breed)

Kingdoms

(This was added after the original document was written) Divina is where the monster species made directly by gods go, a semi-waste bin taxa. The name “Divina” goes down to the genus allowing for unique species names. They seem to be immortal, and possess great power over their elements. The two monsters under the ranks are Divina mechana (Wubbox) and Divina simiservice (Enchantling). Organica contains the ordinary monsters made of living organic matter. They have living cells, can breed, and most of them need to eat, but that’s not a requirement. Inorganica contains the ordinary monsters that are made of primarily inorganic/non living matter while they are alive. They can breed, and none of them need to eat. They run entirely off of their lifeforce, but they eat sometimes for enjoyment.

Phylums

Beastia or beasts are critter-like monsters. Mondragora contains plant-like monsters (Mushrooms are plants in this universe, but there are true fungus like molds and yeasts, they just are barely researched). Reanimata or reanimated monsters are similar to the undead from ancient stories. These monsters are made of cells, but dead ones. Constructa are mainly made of non cellular materials.

Classes (not element classes those are different)

Segmenta or segmented monsters have an segmented exoskeleton composed of chitin, a nervous system primarily on their ventral side, hemolymph, a heart that is on the dorsal side, and molt to grow. Jellatina (through that to jellatidae) or jellatinous monsters are a very broad classification, a semi-wastebin taxon. Basically they don’t have a spinal cord, but aren’t segmented. Chordata or chordates have spines of some sort, even if they are very small and simple as in the inkfish(Atrapicidae). They have blood, and internal mineralized bones. Fungi (to Sporalis) or mushroom monsters have no leaves, are consumers, and aren’t like critters. They are actually a network of mycelium and what looks like their bodies are actually just puppets that are made for interacting with other monsters, and maybe aiding in breaking down food. They can shortly detach these and animate them for a bit while not connected to their mycelium, this behavior is most commonly seen in Sporalis sadisticus (Squot), but the others can do it too. Plantae (to Florales) or plant-like monsters are, well, plant-like monsters. They have chloroplasts and are autotrophs, and can absorb nutrients from soil through special membranes mostly on their feet, but some other monsters can do this too so it’s not a requirement. Instead of activating muscles with muscle fibers, they use hydraulics. They inject and retract water from special absorbent tissues that expand and shrink depending on how much water is in them. For transporting materials through their bodies they use xylem. Phantasma (to Phantidae) or phantoms are ghost-like monsters. They have no organs and instead use a special fluid called ectoplasm that does all their bodily functions like digestion, material transport, and movement. Speaking of movement ectoplasm can stay suspended mid air allowing them to float. Skelleosis (to Skelidae) or skeleton monsters are mostly made of calcified bones. They don’t need to eat, sleep, or do anything a living organism needs to do. Constructa(the class, to Mechina) are monsters that construct their bodies. They often start out by their egg morphing into their first form, and then as they gain more lifeforce as they grow they can support a larger body and add on to their forms. Incramentids (to Goleformes) are inorganic monsters that grow like an organic one rather than building themselves.

Orders

Arachnids ( to Vasucta) are segmented monsters that eat by liquifying their food with their digestive juices by injecting it into their food with fangs. Insectiformes are the segmented monsters that eat by chewing or sucking up already liquid food. Synapsids (to Mammalidae) have solid skulls with three holes in each side, differentiated teeth, warm blood, and are the only organic monsters that can have fur. Amphibians (to Amphibidae) are monsters with skin they can breathe through when wet, and solid skulls. Sauropids have solid skulls with five holes in them, and undifferentiated teeth. Piciformes or piscine monsters have skulls with multiple parts, undifferentiated teeth, and partial thermal regulation. Most have gills and lungs.

Families

Crustacean (to Crustata) monsters are Insectoid monsters that have filamentous gills that they use to breathe. Insect monsters are Insectoid monsters that breathe through spiracles. Reptilidae or reptilian monsters are cold blooded and are primarily covered in scales. Avidae or avian monsters are warm blooded sauropsids. Ossipicidae or ossipicids are piscine monsters with calcified bones. Cartelpicidae or cartelpicids are piscine monsters with cartilage bones. Atrapicidae (to Suctipedes) or inkfish are piscine monsters with beaks, very underdeveloped spines that are one or two bones. Herboceae or herbal monsters are plant-like monsters with no bark on them and instead have soft stems. Arboraceae or tree monsters are monsters with bark. Miniralidae (to Geologica) are monsters made of minerals, they typically eat the minerals that they are made of and they are then heated in a special organ called a kiln, the molten rock is then gradually pushed to the surface to cool and harden into the new surface plates of rock. How they move has been theorized to be magic based. Articinidae (to Artinzina)or artisan monsters are made of materials like wood, fabric, or other crafts materials. They grow and do everything in a magic based way.

Genuses

Insectidae - Dronsecta or dronesects are insect monsters that can open portals with their wings. Larvasa are neotonus insectoids that stay in their larval states for their entire lives. Colomu means colored wings and Colomu have colored wings instead of the clear ones other insectoids have. Insectidae is just a wastebin-taxon where the rest of the insect monsters go.

Jellatidae - Membrana have membranes around their fluid insides. Fluidum have part of their bodies as uncontained fluids, the only monster in this genus are Fluidum _____ (haven’t named the species yet) (Whimsies), wich boil the fluid to fill a sack they make to contain it, which allows them to float. Molluscus is a wastebin-taxon that contains the rest of the soft bodied monsters.

Mammalidae - Ferrae are carnivorous monsters that actively hunt things and have sharp teeth. Ruminanta are monsters that have more than 4 stomachs and eat grasses and other tough things that require a lot of digestion. Humammalia are bipedal omnivorous monsters with mostly flat teeth. Psudoreptillia are semi-cold blooded monsters with calcified skin that resemble scales. Thumpidae are monsters that share a morphological resemblance to or are Thumpidae thumpus (Thumpies), which means they have no ribs and primarily move with spring loaded bones retracted by muscles. Cabutoris exists to contain the species Cabutoris maw (Maws), which fit nowhere else.

Amphibidae - Anura have no tails, Squamosis have calcified lumps beneath their skin that make them look like they have scales.

Reptilidae - Lizardae have flat-tipped tongues. Dracoda have forked tongues. Dinodae have non-splayed-out limbs.

Avidae - Pluma have beaks and most are flighted. Humavia are bipedal and don’t have beaks, have bird-like feet, and no fur.

Ossipicedae - Squamifer have scales, Lenis don’t.

Cartelpicedae - Rayta have ray-like cartilage in their limbs, Serrata have serrated teeth which are mineralized.

Herboceae - Herbosa have proper leaves that are fairly thin, Suculata have thick leaves and store a lot of water.

Arboraceae - Ambularborae have no bark covered trunk, Trunka as the name implies, do

Phantidae - Banshee contains Banshee banshee (Whisps), and Banshee talona (Withurs). Felaspira contains Felaspira furrus (Ghatz) Felaspira serpenta (Xysters).

Skelidae - Carossis have some non-bone tissue, ossa are all bone.

So I know you’ve discussed this a little before and not sure if you’ve seen this (or care that much lol) but recently Jesse Armstrong confirmed that Logan treated all the boys the same when it comes to physical abuse. This aligns with my own read of the show too which is nice but if you listen to the clip Jesse further clarifies that the reason it (the physical abuse) stays with Roman in the present is because he feels like a victim or like he was bullied whereas Kendall and Connor have found a way to like…slot this into their worldview, I guess. I found this interesting because I tend to read Roman as having something of a victim complex but I also think this brings up a few other interesting ideas I’d love to hear your views on if interested.

If we think of Roman as understanding himself to be a victim or bullied within the family unit, do you think Roman is aware that his brothers have had similar experiences with Logan’s physical abuse, or does he think of himself that way because he think’s he’s had a unique experience? Further, how do you think Connor and Kendall were able to move past it. I tend to read Kendall as just…not thinking he was abused. But Connor’s the one that I find kind of fascinating in this context because his past is kind of a black box – narratively we have no one to give us little nuggets of his childhood the way the Trio are able to recount childhood stories of each other to shed light for the audience.

Which is - - y'know, a weird thing to say about a topic like this ,I guess, but it's always nice to think your read of something is what was intended.

I'm pretty fascinated by victim complexes in general. This is a bit of a personal aside, but I'm really close with my uncle, who's my mum's baby brother, and he's bright and funny and has lived such an interesting life, but he's definitely got a victim complex. For him, he knows it, and he's trying to work through it, and it probably comes from a not dissimilar place to Roman now that I think about it - my uncle never felt like he was enough of a man to his father, and when his father died when he was just 17, he joined the army reserves to 'prove' himself, which went.

Not Well.

That kind of snowballed into a very complex relationship with his own masculinity, especially as my uncle was pretty heavily engaged in counter culture and queer and punk scenes in his twenties after being in the reserves only to get into rural journalism which - - y'know. Certainly didn't help his sense of being targeted and bullied, particularly as the organisational culture in rural newspapers as he was coming up were aggressive to say the least.

My point though is that his sense of victimisation is really tied pretty deeply to his sense of not feeling like enough of a man, which was a sentiment established by his father, reinforced by the army and further abused in male-dominated rural towns that he was reporting in.

While Roman, of course, doesn't have the latter, it's an interesting thing to think about in the sense of the first two with Roman clearly feeling his masculinity under threat by his father, and there is an argument to be made about that being reinforced by St. Andrews, but funnily enough, I kind of feel the opposite about that particular point.

Probably because I disagree with St. Andrews being a military school at all.

So let's talk about St. Andrew's

It's pretty widely accepted, I think, that when the show named St. Andrew's they were referring to the St. Andrew's-Sewanee School in Tennessee, in no small part because there were no other St. Andrew's it feels like it could've been. This is a wealthy school (in fact their school fees, with boarding, are almost exactly the same as Buckley without boarding where Kendall canonically went), and the show's attention to details like this feels too deliberate.

And I think it works in no small part because St. Andrew's had stopped being a military school in 1971, about a decade before Roman could've been born (in my timeline I will one day post, haha, probably when nobody will even want it, I think we can pretty cleanly put Kendall as being born in 1979/1980, so Roman at the earliest would be born in '81). It was also during the 1970s, long before Roman would've gone, that St. Andrew's became co-ed.

Of course, this is an area ripe for speculation, but I think it rings true of the show for the kids to treat St Andrew's like it was a military school when that was a fragment of a past (and not even technically a part of St. Andrew's past - it had merged with the Sewanee School, which was the military school). What St. Andrew's became was not the school that Roman actually went to, but a symbol of this sense of being victimised and ostracised. Cast out, in a punishing system, which - - looking at this particular school, while bougie is also co-ed, outdoorsy, freer than Buckley, but that doesn't matter.

Roman's not fixated on the conditions of it, he's fixated on the othering of it. He sees Kendall and presumably Shiv too going to school near Logan (although I doubt Logan was there all that much) in Manhattan, while he's out in the midwest. I kinda think you could argue he played up the military history of the school to perform a strength and masculinity for his brothers and sister he felt he lacked, which could also be a part of why the narrative stuck.

But yes, that's not your question, haha.

Do I think he's aware that his brothers have experienced similar abuse? Yeah, actually, but I think it probably has its ebbs and flows and takes on different meanings depending on the moment or the circumstances, right?

An Aside

So my best friend's grandmother's was in an extremely violent and abusive marriage (I promise this is relevant), and every now and then, he would hit their two daughters too. He died young and unexpectedly, when the girls were still teenagers, a blessing to everyone, but the elder of the two girls - my bf's aunt - has developed a very complex and sometimes hostile relationship with her sister and their mother.

She feels their mother should've protected them better, that she should've left their father years before he died, and she deeply resents her sister for forgiving their mother so easily.

That's warped over the years - both daughters are in their 50s now, their mother close to 80, they're genuinely all pretty close - but it's gotten to the point where the elder daughter feels she was The Most Abused.

I know them all pretty well - me and my bf have known each other for almost 16 years - I've vacationed with them, gotten drunk with them, been involved in multiple weddings, not just my bf's but other members of her family's too.

One night, I was chatting to her mum after she and her sister had had a fight at a party - my best friend and her brothers had gone inside looking after their grandmother - and she just said her sister couldn't move past it. That they all knew what their mother experienced was unimaginable, that he hit them every now and then, but what he did to their mother was so much worse, and that she just didn't see what the point was with holding onto any of that pain when they can just push forwards.

More than that, when you can move on.

My bf's mum became a neonatal nurse, and she thinks she can see it sometimes. Men like her father, absent usually from delivery and controlling or too physical in the ward after, and she feels it too. The way she can throw lifelines to women who are ready for them, or just let women who aren't know where the lighthouses are. It's not a perfect system, but she loves her job, and this part of it - - I think she finds it healing too.

My bf's aunt was a receptionist to a guy who works high up in a bank, and she married him.

She hasn't worked since they had kids 25 years ago.

But back to your question

I think one of the interesting things about the show is that it's showed Roman as typically fairly directionless. He's out of the company at the start of the series, and doesn't seem to have any other thing he's driving towards. Shiv has politics, Kendall has the company, but even Connor has Austerlitz and his water planning before he jumps on his presidential campaign.

I do think a lack of purpose probably can become a bit of a feedback loop psychologically which has caused him to stew in resentment and has probably rationalised his abuse as 'worse', because if it wasn't, then why's he the fuck up? Even just of the Golden Trio.

Probably helped by - as you mention - Kendall's unwillingness to acknowledge it, and the fact that none of them take Connor seriously.

With Kendall and Connor - - yeah, I think Kendall is, in many ways, a caged animal constantly trying to claw his way out of his own head. I think he distracts himself with projects, or people, or drugs, and leans into the whatever, it happened, hey, but right now... of his own circumstances. He knows what happened to him, but he can never talk about it, not to a friend at a funeral or to his own father on his death bed. Kendall's stutter exists I think in his own thinking too, a record scratch that lets him start the song where he has to instead of where he wants or needs to.

He's not quite disassociated, but he's not quite connected either.

And with Connor - - gosh.

I mean, it's interesting to talk about him in this sort of context, because as you said, his history is so much more of a black box. I do think him having a period of absence from Logan plays into his acceptance of it. More and more, I tend to think that the three years he talks about in 3.09 was before Kendall was born, and so I think he's stepping back into formal 'Roy' life at 15 with a lot of complexity that shapes his experience very differently.

Not only is there that tangible anxiety of being rejected again if you don't fall in line, but there's also these new and complicated feelings of being replaced / in competition with a new child (always fascinated that Connor so rarely expresses that in the series, but whenever he does it's with Kendall), but also I think naturally feeling immediately doting and protective of this scrap of family offered to you after a period without.

I think in that context that Connor probably long ago reconciled himself with the fact that if he wanted his father in his life, that was what it was going to be like, and that he was prepared to be the failure if it kept him out of the bloodsport between their father and his siblings. I think he does occasionally wish for a higher position, and wonder what it could've been if Dad had ever thought of him in that context, but I also think he, at some point, made the choice that none of the rest of them have been able to make, which is that he can always go home.

Website update

An update regarding the KOKIAfans blog: I have updated the discography page after KOKIA's announcement of digital releases for vol. 3 and 4 of her animal CDs. The physical releases are now sorted under the 'Special releases' category, as I had done with the first two volumes. The digital releases are listed as albums, with the original release date mentioned.

KOKIA previously announced the animal CDs would likely not return as physical releases after running out of stock, but they did return at least for the moment, so I'm not sure what her current stance is. That was the reason for my earlier decision to move them to the special releases category. If anyone has different ideas on how to handle this, feel free to let me know!

I have also updated the title translations, as it turns out the full track titles of volume 3 were slightly different in some cases than initially listed. There were no full track titles for volume 4 online at all, so I only had the animal names for those. However, I now have the physical releases myself after purchasing both albums via her official webshop, making use of the service Worldshopping (banner automatically added for international visitors). My review of the service is under the read more link (overall positive).

I hope this means I can start translating some new songs in the not so distant future, but unfortunately, I still cannot make any promises.

My experience after two orders is that the Worldshopping service is fast and the packaging is well done. The animal CDs are not in plastic cases, but rather cardboard, but no harm came to them in shipping, and the box was clearly marked as having fragile content.

Worldshopping does ask for a fee to place the order for you, and the additional international shipping from Japan can get rather expensive. Service wise it gets my recommendation, but I would still like to warn you for those additional costs. I've seen negative reviews based solely on those costs, as people were unaware they'd have to pay for shipping twice (domestic and international). Worldshopping does tell you this, but apparently it's not always clear to everyone.

The process went as follows, with the timeline of my latest order between parentheses:

I place my order via the 'Add to cart' banner under each product. I pay Worldshopping a combined fee for the products, domestic shipping and service fee upon checkout;

Worldshopping then places the order on the webshop and sends me a confirmation of having done so (almost immediate, same day). Without an account, you receive a link by mail to a page from which you can keep track of your order;

Worldshopping receives the order and prepares it for overseas shipping (3 business days for the order to arrive at their warehouse);

Worldshopping sends a bill for overseas shipping, giving me a storage deadline of one full business week;

I pay Worldshopping for overseas shipping and Worldshopping sends the package to my address (I paid after business hours in Japan, my order was shipped the following business day);

Worldshopping ships the package overseas (arrival at customs in the Netherlands after 3 business days);

I have to pay customs to get the packaging shipped to my address, although that is no longer within Worldshopping's domain. It is still an additional cost to be aware of.

Where both Jiang Wanyin and Jiang Cheng go to the same college lan xichen is attending and lxc fell head over heels for them, but doesn't realise they are two people. part of the reason he doesn't notice is that every time he has some free time, usually one of the twins is busy with classes. So he simply believes jc is a bit funny and loves changing outfits in the day if he happens to meet both of them.

Jiang cheng is rather gentle and soft, doesn't like to fight with people and will easily get along with people. He looks easy to bully and as though he could never hurt anyone. on the other hand, Jiang Wanyin looks a bit colder. He looks like he could fight anyone and he will do if you dare cross the line or even /think/ of doing anything his brother.

both twins end up also falling for lxc & they agree to share. They have always shared everything and love won't suddenly make them fall apart, they can easily share.

But they also want to play a bit, it has been a while since someone took so long to catch onto them being twins and it is pretty fun, lxc sometimes looks a bit unsure how to act, but does catch easily on "which personality" "the young man" decide to play. He thinks maybe jc/jwy is just a bit special and like switching things up a bit.

but then one day lxc is sure he saw two jc/jwy in less than five minutes, in two /very/ different outfits and in two /very/ different locations of the school. He quickly starts asking about his mental health. Was he seeing things? Was his mind messing around with him?

And then he starts doubting himself because the more he looks, the more he feels like he can see the little difference between "the young man". the twins end up realising they might have taken the game too far and tell him everything, jc apologising for causing possible distress to lxc.

"We like to trick people and you seemed to accept so easily that "I" was switching outfits multiple times a day," said jc.

with that, lxc does admit he should probably have questioned it a bit more. but for now, he's really happy to know he wasn't going insane. There were two jiang boys. this does leave lxc unsure of how to proceed. Can he keep flirting around with one of them? maybe he shouldn't he wouldn't want for them to get into a bad relationship because he chose one and not the other.

but then he notices both boys are still very openly flirting with him and neither seems to mind the other doing so.

"We've always shared everything, if lxc doesn't mind, we can also share you~" jwy told him once when they were out the three of them on a date. it doesn't take much to convince him. lxc likes both of them and if they both want him, he will oblige. He has enough love for more than two Jiang anyway.

*slam door open*

Lxc wondered how they could keep up so well with their discussion even when they weren't there to start it. The twins are the king of making people believe they are each other and they mastered sharing the same memory even tho they weren't there.

They are good bote takers so it is easy to write down clearly what happens so they can keep up with their game. All are well defined for each with jc having medium purple and jwy royal blue.

Anything relating to what lxc might like is highlighted in pastel blue, so they can remember it to surprise him when they buy some tea.

Lxc is rather impressed when he looks at the document when they allow him to check it out. He does blush when he sees little comments in parentheses about how cute or handsome he was that day.

Of course, now that their secret is out the doc isn't that useful, but the twin keeps adding in, but mainly to make a list of things they noticed lxc really liked.

The gang is planning on contacting the Seelie Queen via the bell Clary received from Kaelie in the previous book in order to ask her for information on Jace.

The opinion of the Clave isn’t really stated, just that is normal for the Shadowhunters to go missing or die, not whether Jace has done the latter. It’s irrelevant whether the Clave believes Jace to be alive or not, since their search was never about Jace anyway. This is told in the first chapter by Alec. The search was first and foremost about Sebastian, and Jace was given some attention on courtesy for being a Clave hero. Additionally, Alec would know whether Jace was dead or not, and since the Clave wasn’t ever really searching for Jace, Clave’s opinion on Jace’s status doesn’t matter.

Why use parentheses when the information can be incorporated to the sentennce?

I like stories that are thought ahead, details planned from the beginning. Not every series needs to be like this, but Clare has a tendency to come up with things as she goes along, things that are not alluded to some point. CoFA and CoLS are littered with TID references because she wrote these two series concurrently, which is why she was able to draw references immediately. These fairy rings were just another reminder how little anything meant in the beginning because how cool it would’ve been if in the very first book Clary saw these? If this series was planned ahead of time, what kind of a payoff it would be? There’ll be other things later on as well that exemplify this.

In the Seelie Court, Alec has terrible time for once again being reminded of his mortality and dying youth, and after they leave he goes to Magnus’ place.

Now why the hell would that be Will? Those are not even his initials, and Magnus told Alec in CoLS that his name was Will Herondale. And of course it’s a Herondale Alec is feeling insecure about.

First of all, gross. Second of all, this is a centuries old grown-ass man talking about how another centuries old grown-ass adult doesn’t have such a young boyfriend with endurance that refers to their sex life. It’s more than disturbing, emphasizing eighteen-year-old.

In CoB, Magnus was described looking nineteen. What, pray tell, differentiates these ages from one another. 

→ Another emphasis on their age difference and how it weighs on the relationship. They should not be together.

We cut to Clary coming home and overhearing Jocelyn and Luke.

Jocelyn’s nightmare is grounded on years of manipulation and abusive relationship, having to deal with feelings about her monster of a child, that if being voiced, would be reflected on her as a mother unable to love her own son. Her responsibility and guilt over Sebastian, though not at all her fault (how can you fault a parent not being able to murder her own child), is not at all comparable to Clary’s teenage romance, as if Clary losing anyone else would be bearable if at least Jace was at her side. The writing doesn’t say that or necessarily mean that, but the implication is there. It’s almost cringeworthy how the writing tries to prod sympathy for Clary on the coattails of Jocelyn’s trauma.

Very much akin to Clary’s fit of rage against her mother in CoG. It comes out of nowhere, Clary herself is written being aware that is makes no sense, but again it only underlines how little empathy Clary has for her mother and the heavy things Jocelyn has endured in her life before Clary. Clary’s anger pushed the responsibility on Jocelyn, not Valentine having corrupted their son before birth.

Only thing Clary has lost from her old life is going to school. She had not other friends than Simon.They still do nerdy things together given time. She’s always had Jocelyn and Luke, albeit temporarily losing them at points. She has lost nothing from her life before as it stands today really, only gained more after being introduced to the Shadow World, so this sentiment is overly dramatic and has no basis.

Are we really going to pretend that Simon has no idea how to read Clary at this point? Like he doesn’t know her at all to know how she feels?

→ She hadn’t known Simon had seen that in her.

Even dealing with the loss of two of her brothers, Isabelle is still thinking about Clary’s well-being, as if Clary is the one dealing with a loss any greater than hers. There’s no consideration towards here her which could be easily remedied if Simon said anything about Isabelle handling the situation or her and Alec having each other so him being there for Clary is alright.

Now it’s just about Clary and Clary and Clary.

How long is Clary’s neck? If their shoulders were touching, Clary’s chin would only reach her own shoulder.

Waa, waa, because having Jace is all that matters, which doesn’t exactly scream appreciation or care towards anyone else if their comfort and presence mean fuck all without him.

I keep fucking up shit in my regular life because I’m so focused on this work, on Identification Theory.

I saw this AMT that each hat pair is a Hexagon, and so the drawing of the gs with 4 hats is a 12 and thus higher counts. And each of the Hexagons forms with I//I, meaning here that if you pick say I(x), that I(y) is the Halving, is the midpoint of the other two choices around any bT. So, we have Triangular, with grid squares erupting out of each 1Segment side (by treating them as 1-0Segments that expand into squares). That last part, which I stupidily put in parentheses, is the simple representation of the processes. Can only say that because of all the rest of the work. And a gs is now also both Irreducibles in Hexagons. That is a big unification.

I have to get a Covid shot. This is simultaneously the best and worst week of my life. I see everything coming together absolutely perfectly, but I’m stuck here. Yes, it’s a song. I’m aware.

How does this End? Jane tells me it’s going well. But I’m extremely afraid and stressed. I remember when I thought the end was at hand, meaning for me, not the work, back in March of 20121. The new - really fairly old- drawing with hats explains a lot. A single bT is in 3 Hexagons, and each gs is one of those in each Irreducible. That’s about as straightforward as it gets. A single gs connects to 4 Hexagons, so it is the literal rendition of IC of Hexagons. And that then puts the bip pole at the center of the gs, which links across the forms with Injection Theory. So, if I can put this in an order: we build the gs through attachments of 1-0Segments, which is Attachment Theory, and the resulting gs has a bip injection pole, which is Injection Theory. And these together with the SBE concepts form Identificaition Theory. Isn’t that nice?

So, at this point, I am oscillating now mostly about mission fears. With this work at this stage, we can accomplish many great things. When I think about that, I feel fatalistic: if there is some hidden horrible plot twist, which would appear to the world as normal life continuing, then I’ve been misled for my entire life to do this work. And my dedication has been worth it, and all the sacrifice has been worth it, because this work has come true. But now it has to come true in a different way, one I can’t control, one I don’t want to control because I don’t want to conrol you. I want to be part of you for eternity. The only one I’ve ever loved with my whole being.

It makes sense but I'm still impressed. I can generally distinguish between one writer and another but I don't really get a lot of anon asks so I don't know how much context is influencing me. Now I'm curious what my writing style sounds like.

You usually convey your thoughts pretty clearly in your asks. You also use periods more than any other punctuation- and reframe from commas all together. If you do have something you want to add- (you use parentheses) Your sentences are either very long or very short, with little inbetween.

I opened my eyes and looked around. I felt like death, was I dead? Did they kill me in my sleep? If I'm dead than this must be hell because it still looks like my room in the castle. Seriously death? Couldn't you give me a break?

   I sighed and got up to look around, but as I passed the mirror I turned around immediately to look at myself. I was a lot paler than I remember, I looked like I just walked off a runway. The worst part was I had those damn red eyes that the vampires had. Am I really dead or did they turn me?

  I turned to my door at the sound of footsteps suddenly appearing outside my door. Then Aro walked in with Marcus and Caius at his sides.

   "You changed me?!" I screamed beyond frustrated with them at this point.

   "Yes, that was what we told you would happened if you took the job." Aro said matter-of-factly.

   "You never kept your word to that before with the other secretaries! Why am I the one you changed?!" I screeched angrily at him. I couldn't get a nice peaceful death, now I can't die. These vampires suck!

   "That's simple Caro, you just haven't figured it out yet." (Dear) Aro said playfully, like this was all one big game to him.

   "Why I oughta" I growled and lunged at him, but was stopped by Caius pulling me into his chest. Before I could think of a way to curse him out, I stopped as I caught a whiff of Caius. Why did he suddenly smell like (f/s)? It was a very nice scent and it was making my brain fuzzy.

   Before I could stop myself, I was giggling and giving a genuine smile. I snuggled into Caius' chest enjoying his scent.

   "There we go. Take it easy, Tesoro." (Treasure) Caius whispered sweetly to me. I honestly didn't want to let go of him. Besides he smelled amazing, this was a side I never saw of Caius. Actually, the kings were all acting strange since last night.

   Marcus was being playful and less depressing, Aro showed the most genuine concern I have ever seen him give, and Caius was mostly quiet last night, but now he was cuddling with me. What the hell was happening?

   I tried to breathe in more of Caius' scent but something else caught my interest. Marcus smelled like (2/f/s) and Aro smelled like (3/f/s). What was happening to me?

   "What's going on?" I finally asked, after collecting my thoughts. Aro stretched out his hand so I put mine in his on instinct. He then wrapped both his hands around my hand. Marcus had moved closer and was messing with my hair. I leaned into the new touch, enjoying the attention from the both of them.

   Aro chuckled at my thoughts from when I woke up. "You can now feel the mating bound Caro. Now you know why your no longer our secretary. I'm shocked it took you this long to feel anything."

   I looked at him confused and he answered my unspoken question. "We vampires have a bond with a human or another vampire which is called the mating bond. It's very similar to a human soul mate. It's something Caius, Marcus, and I have shared for centuries." Aro now held an actual sweet smile on his face at that thought. "When you came to be our secretary, Marcus saw our bond was also connected to you but throughout the entire week that you worked for us, you never showed interest, simply trying to stay alive and not anger us. That would be normal if you only had one mate but you have all three of us."

   Caius and Marcus started to purr at Aro mentioning the bond, clearly they enjoyed the thought of a mate. I had even started to purr because of them.

   Aro continued, "The more mates a human has, the more of a need to be near those mates the human will have. Vampires have a more intense reaction to having a mate then humans do. That is why you went from trying to kill me to cuddling Caius." Aro stated as he watched how I was reacting to Marcus and Caius. "We originally thought it was because Caius was being harsh on you."

   That reminded me, "Why were you such an asshole to me while I was the secretary?" I asked Caius, while looking up at him.

   "The lower gaurds have less tolerance to humans." He stated before Marcus interrupted him.

   "That's putting it lightly, Carissimo." (Dearest) Marcus mumbled into my ear. This caused the hairs on the back of my neck to stand up. I knew it wasn't Marcus' intent of scarring me but to tell me that I was walking on extremely thin ice with the lower gaurd around because I existed scared me.

   Caius lightly growled at him for freaking me out, but he continued with what he was saying. "If you made even one mistake infront of them, they would have either killed you or choked you out while promising to kill you." He said, while trying to soothe my nerves by scenting my neck.

   "Why not tell the gaurds about me then?" I asked, annoyed that they wouldn't want to keep me safe because I was their human mate. I moved away from them and sat on my bed, I didn't want them touching me anymore

   "It was too much of a risk if the entire gaurd knew. Some would want to use your life in order to get a higher statues in the gaurd or to get revenge on us for killing someone they knew that they deemed innocent, but we killed." Marcus gently replied. I was surprised they weren't trying to force me to be affectionate towards them.

   "The elite guard are aware of you, they kept watch over you incase a lower gaurd decided to mess with you." Aro tried to ease my annoyance of them.

   I finally dropped it and went over to the window to help me process everything. This was a lot when all I wanted was a job to get myself out of my financial hole.

   As I looked out at the garden below my room I caught sight of sparkles in my peripheral vision. I moved my arm around in the light finding it fascinating that my skin was now extremely sparkly.

   I heard my mates chuckle, next thing I knew I had Marcus next me telling me about how our venom causes us to sparkle instead of combusting into flames. It was odd to see the kings sparkling like glitter bombs and being caring instead of depressed, creepy, and angry all the time. Maybe being a vampire wasn't so bad if I had them by my side.

Sure, let's start off with hot takes about writers. There are some that adamantly refuse to engage with the community at all, and I just find that pretty funny. It makes me curious, what's the point of writing? Is it just for readers to jerk off to the sexy words you've put up? I guess that's sufficient for some people. But it just seems kinda empty. Or maybe they've got it all figured out. Write some stories, peace out. Sounds like a great time. I'm sure they're just busy, but damn.

Morality?!

"Oh obviously this crosses the line, but all this other stuff I've written is fine."

Yeah. I say this one trillion times. This is even in my rules section. Whatever. Writers care too much about the morality of literally anything at all when it comes to writing smut about real people who did not consent to the use of their image in this manner and who could and probably would shut down the community immediately upon discovery. Even if it's not illegal per se, you can maybe understand why a subject of these stories might not like it.

Clearly, this isn't to say stop writing. (Your bias isn't reading these.) It's more about the high horse discourse that happens more often than I see in other NSFW communities, the baseball unspoken rules. BarelyLegal is my most on the nose discussion about this point. Be a fucking disgusting weirdo freak. Accept who you are.

so i have a theory about who the narrator is in deltarune, it’s honing to be a long one so i’m putting a read more, but tldr, it’s gaster. sort of.

but first i have to establish a few things, first being that the opening narrator in the character creation segment, up until they get cut off by someone else who says the whole ‘will now be discarded” thing, is gaster. most people already agree with this, but basically it has all the same speech patterns as entry 17 (except for the wingdings) all caps, very very interesting, etc, and when you try to use the name gaster the game shuts off, the song in the background is called ‘another him’ when tasters theme is called ‘him’, basically all signs point to gaster

so next point: gaster is very linked with phones, throughout deltarune and even in undertale. obviously in deltarune using your phone in the darkworld makes the gaster noise, (which is also the noise in the mysterious door which gaster also has) and spamton gets a call from a mysterious stranger who is also basically assumed to be gaster, spamton is also linked with phones

but even in undertale there are links to phones. most fun events are either tied to gaster or they’re phone calls from characters we already know (sans and alphys) but there’s one phone call from a character we never meet, who asks for someone who’s name starts with g, and then immediately cuts themself off, somehow knowing we’re not who they wanted to call before we even speak. now there’s plenty of characters who’s names start with g and this could be nothing, but in other fun value events with gaster followers, (though interestingly not with goner kid) you can’t use your phone at all, same as deltarune except without the gaster noise.

SO what we have so far is gaster, who is highly connected to phones, narrates the beginning section of the game, but not in his usual wingdings, before being cut off by a different narrator who narrates the rest of the game. which seems to make sense EXCEPT

have you ever noticed how the deltarune narrator speaks in a very disjointed way, using two slightly different styles? what i mean is sometimes the narrator uses parentheses for statements, and sometimes they don’t.

that’s weird right? especially when talking about the same thing which it can be. for what it’s worth, generally parentheses narration is in the dark world and the light world has less of it, but that’s not always the case

there’s also no parentheses text in kris’s house, and the first time you see it is in the school. except for the toilet for some reason? like that’s the only thing in the whole house that gets this treatment which is confusing but whatever

clearly these distinctions mean something. it would be much easier to only write in one style, so when these two styles are switching off so frequently it isn’t just a mistake, it has some purpose

now, my explanation for why this is like this is pretty simple. remember how gaster isn’t speaking in wingdings in deltarune when he should be? well wingdings has exactly two characters for phone symbols, which as established is gaster a symbol, and they are

that’s right! the parentheses in wingdings are phones! which means if we were to translate the narration from english to wingdings, the meaning stays the same, with the added implication that the narration in parentheses are being heard or spoken through a phone, or really, by gaster.

so that was the part of the theory i’m solid on. the parentheses narration is gaster, and the other is somebody else we probably haven’t met yet. maybe this unknown narrator is on the phone with gaster who adds his comments as they watch over the player? but that’s just speculation

i do have a theory as to who this other narrator is, but it sounds a little ridiculous and i’m a bit more shaky on it, so take this with a grain of salt, but the other narrator is toby fox. or rather, the in game annoying dog who’s working on a game.

note the speaker is in parentheses, so if the second speaker is the dog this wouldn't be a contradiction

so toby has been foreshadowing deltarune since the undertale kickstarter, and when he brought it up cryptically he said this:

interesting language there. toby cant tell us anything about the game, but maybe someone else can? someone who hijacks his internet connection and websites from time to time, perhaps?

if you don't know, the deltarune website was made a very long time before deltarune was out, the oldest archived version of the webpage goes back to 2015, and since nobody else should have known about deltarune or this websites existence, its most likely that toby himself archived these pages, because theres something there he wants us to find.

when you go back to the earliest pages, it's just a black background, except it isn't. theres one image there, also all black, titled him.png. tbut why would that image be there if its the same color as the background, isn't that pointless? well it turns out, it isn't. lightening the brightness of him.png reveals that theres actually incredibly hard to spot wingdings in the image. theres actually two him.png photos, the first is from 2015 and reads 'THIS NEXT EXPERIMENT SEEMS VERY VERY INTERESTING', so the classic gaster quote, and possibly a clue into what entry 17 is actually about? but this second from 2016one is new text(ignore the awful image quality i did this by myself i don't have photoshop)

and ill just translate that for you thats 'THREE HEROES APPEARED TO BANISH THE ANGELS HEAVEN' which is pretty relevant to the story of deltarune isn't it. so when toby said he couldn't tell us about the new game, he didn't mean we wouldn't hear anything about it, he meant HE couldn't say. but gaster, and it is gaster he even quotes himself to prove it, has a history of posting update messages on toby's site, the same site that he posts his own update messages on, the official site for the real world game deltarune, which outside of this text is just a standard website with no in character talking. pretty bizzare inclusionon toby's part, unless he wants to set up the possibility that he and gaster work together on games, or at least that gaster can hijack toby's means of talking to us and say his own things.

now of course, this isn't the last time this happens, because we see this exact thing for the launch of deltarune. this time on toby's twitter, gaster literally speaks over toby through his phone

same black backgrounds, same all caps text, same talking over toby, only instead of the undertale style of wingdings typing, its the deltarune style of no wingdings. and then toby comes back and gives us a survery program, which is then led by gaster, who is then cut off by toby, and then regular narrator and parenthes/phone narrator go back and forth for the rest of the game, with the 'toby' narrator being more in control in the familiar undertale-like world, and the 'gaster' narrator being more in control in the new world shrouded in darkness that toby can't openly speak about. they go back and forth as narrators,cutting each other off, fighting for control of the story and our attention as players. the question is in the end, who will end up with the final say on how it goes?
