How do you make your color palettes?? theyre literally gorgeous, I've been trying to do more bright "clashing" colors but they always clash too much

hi!! i may have posted this before so sorry if i sound like a broken record. i have three different ways i find palettes for my art.

method #1: sample from my own art is it because im lazy? yes!! a little bit!! but does it also work and give me a jumping off point for my art while keeping my art looking cohesive?? also yes!! i know of 4 recent paintings that all sampled and referenced each other. i'll post them below

if it aint broke dont fix it! also if youre experimenting with color and things just arent looking great go find an artist you like and sample from them. i dont condone copying or tracing art but drawing inspiration from your favorite artists by eyedropping their paintings so you can learn from them is in the okay zone for me.

method #2: just straight up using my favorite colors CONFIDENTLY i created this palette and i literally sample from it every time. i think a big part of making color look good is just being confident. if you zoom into some parts of my art there are definitely instances when things clash but i actually try to lean into those instances bc it creates a sort of unique eyestrain look. colors dont have to always play nice for a piece to work

i always use at least three colors from this palette to start (feel free to sample from this if youd like)

method 3 is kind of a last resort but it does the trick in a pinch: i take my reference picture and pump the colors WAYYYY up then sample from that. for this painting in particular i wanted to include a lot of green. admittedly green palettes are my worst enemy so i relied on this method to help me out here:

i like this method especially with my ref photos of nature because often i find that natural colors hardly clash and there are many harmonious undertones hidden beneath what at first glance looks like "just green" or "just brown" . pumping up the saturation with a photo editing tool brings all those hidden colors to the surface while keeping them somewhat harmonious

i hope this helps a little bit! ive never taken a color theory class or anything so i wish i could give more technical advice about color relationships and stuff like that but mostly i just.. use the colors that i love most, which may be a good place to start ⚡

thank you, and i'll try my best to answer this but !! i dont think i'll be much help in trying to explain either of those 😭

for colors i actually pick them manually (insanity); though i draw fanart most of the time and have refs in hand, i pick out colors close to the originals, then simply match them to a tone i want for the picture (if this makes sense; i often use color palettes too to see how i can match them. if there is an odd color that wouldnt match, what i do is i also simply pick a brush on half or lower opacity and place the general color of reference over; for ex below: asuka's hair was a bit too bright and unfitting, so i picked the pure violet shade the lineart had as well and applied it over on 30?40?50% opacity)

for picking colors, theres tons of color palettes online to pick from, but there's also tons of artists with colorful styles like these i like to look for for examples (my best picks are rourow (one of muse dash's artists), onono imouko* (dohna dohna's lead artist; @ _himehajime on twitter), mochizuki kei (@ key999 on twitter), ohisashiburi* (some of the more colorful works of theirs at least. the colors in majority of theirs even if more dark in tone are still super pretty and you can work around with them too; needy girl overdose's lead artist, @ imlllsn on twitter)

*beware nsfw content. onono has no nsfw in his own media tab but rts it; dd is an eroge ; ohisashiburi may have art with sensitive topics, and nsfw or thinly veiled nsfw in both media tab and rts.

for faces i still struggle with them actually ! 😭 not that i cannot draw faces, moreso sometimes struggle to draw them as i want. for piece above i feel like i got it exactly as i'd want to always do them (i.e for years on end i've always wanted to draw eyes larger than i usually tend to do); but most of the time especially on eyes i try to match the face closer to reference even if it goes a bit overboard with the style, and then try to make it match more either by line weight or etc. (i also tend to exaggerate expressions at times because i personally think it either better shows them off or it looks cute) (probably best example below because its a redraw of a figure)

Okay im CAUGHT UP with the magnus protocol now! Some thoughts:

Obviously we know who Norris and Chester are, and its almost certain that leaves Augustus as Jonah Magnus. The question is, are they really "them"? Or have they simply manifested in this universe as voices, echoes of who they were beyond? If they do have agency on any level, what level would that be?

Everyone seems to be trying to categorize the new statements with the entities from before. And while we see fragments of them, let us not forget: the entities are more like colors, blending into eachother. Its entirely possible this world has a different set of obvious colors, based on the fears of its inhabitants

We've heard the Magnus Institute namedropped, as well as obvious references to Grifter's Bone. Are these statements confirming that both entities exist in this world as well? Or perhaps these statements arent actually from this world, but leftovers from World A? We never did get confirmation that all the statements back there got read, and thus far the only confirmed supernatural thing in World B is the bizarre nature of FR3-d1.

There's no way that Gwen Bouchard's last name is a coincidence, nor is her desire to climb to the top of this bureaucratic structure. That said, reminder that Elias Bouchard before his possession by Jonah Magnus was described as "something of a stoner", so the characterization of Gwen doesnt match TRUE Elias, but the possessed version of him. Still possible it is truly Elias unpossessed, but the harrowing experience he went through made him more serious. And also somehow forcefemmed him? That or its someone just related otherwise to Elias.

If the Magnus Institute and Grifter's Bone DO exist in World B, how much else exists here? Clearly there's SOME similarities, but are there perhaps alternate versions of people here? The hints toward Grifter's Bone in particular would seem to hint precisely that fact.

The Magnus "Protocol" makes it sound like a contingent plan Jonah Magnus came up with in the event that someone would do exactly what happened at the end of TMA, and if so, that scares me immensely. If Jonah Magnus can see all, even with the blindspot and secrecy, he likely knew that the blindspot could be a way to another world. This could be all according to keikaku for him.

Sam's connection to the Magnus Institute has me worried. It reminds me of how Tim became so fixated on the Stranger because of past trauma. And Tim...well. We remember how that story ended.

Alice says this shit doesnt get to her, and yet she's afraid, constantly. I dont think she's being completely honest, she KNOWS there's a darkness there. She may refuse to look directly into the abyss but the very fact that she sticks with a job where she knows the abyss lives...I think she saw something she can't walk away from. She also reminds me of Tim, hiding behind jokes and pretending to be fine.

Colin clearly knows the most about the truth. Maybe he's pulling a Gertrude, trying to keep it disorganized to prevent what he views as an evil plot? Or maybe he's just a bid mad because of it all. But I think he's got interesting character potential.

Anyways thats my thoughts so far. God its good, feels like the original series never ended! When the reveal that the painter in episode 2 was editing *her own flesh* instead of the artwork with her palette knife I gasped audibly. Great stuff

I feel like you must get asked this often and I'm sorry, but how is everyone you draw always so well-dressed? Do you have a source/sources of fashion inspiration or is it more of an innately incredible sense of style that I can only envy from afar? (I love your art!!)

FIRST i will confess to u smth.. all of my Fashion and Design Aesthetics were formed in my TENDER YOUTH watching eureka 7 and reading like, really fashionable shoujo manga + IMMORTAL RAIN in PARTICULAR. one of my most substantial influences is 70s mod fashion (the combo result of e7 and I Watched Austin Powers Probably Too Much As A Child) which isnt always apparent in the actual outfits but is usually p apparent in like.. HOW i draw them (clean/concise silhouettes, a lot of straight lines and curve combos accentuating each other). more than fashion fit design itself i rely LARGELY on breaking the body up into shapes and sections and then mold clothes to fit however i want to section those shapes. I HAVE NO IDEA IF THAT MAKES SENSE but THIS oc thing i did the other day kind of showcases what i focus on in terms of visual appeal when i do outfits.

i also like to think about personality when it comes to designing fits- like, what does the character enjoy, what is their GOAL w their clothing?? the ones i drew there are all a Specific Look that oc cultivates, which is WEAPONIZED SEXUALITY so her sexy fits are revealing but not TOO revealing bc its a tease not an invitation. her ultimate goal is to throw ppl off their guard and have them underestimate her, which is why her OTHER aesthetic is like, CHASTE INNOCENT SUNDAY SCHOOL ATTIRE. everything i draw her in is designed w her Goals in mind, if that is making any sense at all. ig what i am trying to say is that i always think in terms of like WHY would the character wear this, WHAT purpose do they utilize their clothes for? if i can narrow that down then i usually can visualize smth OR narrow down to a Clothes Genre and work from there

HERE are some brief annotations for my thought process on designing these outfits. i based them all off cape coats and pea coats so those were my references once i got it down to a GENRE. SIMILARLY i thought abt some of ninos canon aesthetics in THIS draw for the color palette (THE BUBBLER, SPECIFICALLY, OBVIOUSLY), BUT this is one of those cases where i just went w MY preferences for what i want to see chars in, same w marinettes fit. you can really see my 70s influence w ninos little booty shorts tbh

OTHERWISE YEAH. i just pull stuff outta my cavernous little noggin and call it good!! every set of pjs ive drawn marinette in are just things i think are cute and want to draw her in, not necessarily smth i think shed wear in the show. i dont look up fashion insp stuff v often but i used to spend soooo much time on lookbook back in the day (is lookbook still a thing??????). overall i just mix n match shit i KNOW i like, which usually means a lot of croptops if i am being honest here

I think the people saying that certain things on the doc are "not an issue" need to see the bigger picture and WHY theyre being included. For example, the character theft, while it is not that big, is still an issue. It is because it shows that Quartz still has images of Oranges ocs to reference off of. Most of Oranges socials are private or dont have any content up anymore, meaning no one outside those following her cant see her art. The characters she copied from are not available for outsiders to see. So its concerning that she has one of Oranges ocs colors EXACTLY. While yes color theft isnt real thats not what the doc is trying to say. Its saying that this is an invasion of privacy and boundaries. Quartz having the exact color from one of Oranges ocs means she still has images saved and is using them as references for these new ocs, and its proof that she has a whole USB drive of said images

So yes, the character theft part of the doc is important, because its emphasizing and giving more proof to things that have been shown and said before. I dont think you should get rid of anything in the doc because they do show a lot of why Quartz behavior is not good and needs to be addressed. People need to learn how to read without letting their opinions and emotions get the best of them, and actually try to understand what is being presented to them in a mature way. I've been seeing many people downplay this doc as being only made for spite or clout when that is clearly not the case if you simply read it and try to see why these things are being talked about (this is more so to her fans and friends downplaying the situation and calling it "drama" when it is something so far off from that)

For more clarity: The character theft is not the main issue as it should have been obvious but we apologize for that confusion.

The reason why character theft, like explained as Anon did, was included was to show the sense of uncomfortable boundaries being pushed aside from Quartelz.

This issue has actually been addressed by Orange and Quartelz. Orange (in private) stated they did not want their character Junior to be used, but Quartelz said in summary she wasn’t going to rid them and instead make them different which shown by the images are not that different to begin with. It makes it more uncomfortable when the character Junior isn’t even owned by Quartelz.

The reason why the character AK-47 owned by Quartelz is extremely uncomfortable is because of the color code being copied straight from Orange’s OC colors. This means Quartelz would still own old art of Oranges things, proving her USB of Oranges old items, and replace Orange’s OC, Creme, with AK who has the exact same color code from their art.

It’s uncomfortable when you add the fact that Quartelz has shown her hatred for Orange, yet still continues to mimic the OCs that Orange used to have with her instead of trying to do something new. It’s uncomfortable because she has yet to change it still as shown in recent streams; this is not to say colors can’t be similar, that’s not what we’re trying to say. But when you have two people who are clearly no longer in contact, and one of them is making videos killing their ex yet still has their old things saved and steals a color palette from the same ex, it’s genuinely uncomfortable.

first image is a girl with a gun eye, second is a combination of assorted characters (creepy monster, blue lizard guy, demon boss guy, lamp dude, corndog, and another lizard guy i drew for fun a while back.) third and fourth are corndog whos my pfp character but like actually drawn by me, last few are a sketch of some goober i made for a 3d model of it, a homestuck fella, and that spooky white guy from the assorted image

to answer questions in advance, no most of them dont have names, yes that one's palette is color picked from a corndog (as long as its color picked from a corndog thats the palette. go ham.), the names i do have are corndog and the blue lizard on top right is shakard whos a character i used to play for dnd.

if you need more on a specific character i can try and find more and/or draw something new for it its no problem

Minor Devlog - August 8th 2023

welcome to the first post about the remake of "Star Bun"! I'm working on graphics and mapping for the first room you'll see in the game: Bun's spaceship

it's pretty bare, and there's some redesigning to be done. for 1 i'm gonna expand the windows so you can see more of the scrolling space background, and later the planet landscape when you land and are in the meat of the game.

The menu is also very unfinished, please dont pay attention to it-

for reference: screenshots of Bun's ship from the original VX Ace game. You may note that it used to be 2 rooms, a main room with a little table and the control panel and the bedroom with a big UFO dome. I intend to sketch some designs of Bun's new ship, but I do already have ideas in mind, most notably it actually making any physical sense lmao-

the original is more like a generic RPG starting house that just so happens to be spaceship themed (the personalized rug looked good at the time, but i'm gonna make it way less of a center-piece, especially since I can fit the detail in less tiles thanks to RPG Maker MV having bigger tiles)

the few people that have played the original build, and even fewer of those that will be seeing this most likely, may remember that something possessed me to use dithering instead of normal gradients in that game's backgrounds, and it fucking Hurt to watch them scroll for any amount of time. I will not commit that same assault on my players' eyeballs this time around, lesson learned, i was just weirdly obsessed with only ever using and showing colors that were in Aseprite's NES palette preset, without ever actually adhering to NES limitations on anything

Planned additions to the remake ship:

the control panel at the front, of course

animated scenery

a central elevator that would be how Bun enters and exits the ship

bedside desk with new sketches and diary stuff to look at

other furniture, maybe?

What the red space scene means (spoilers)

hi i just played through black/red space in omori and i have some Thoughts. this post is a mess. also spoilers. I mainly want to talk about the red space scene but im also going to be going over black space because context. Also i use second-person pov alot here so if that's an issue, dont read. Before I get into this, few things you gotta understand. 1. the game needs you to get attached to the characters of OMORI because otherwise the story won't have any impact on you. Luckily it's pretty easy to get attached to the characters, both headspace and irl versions. Luckily, the game gives you plenty of reason and time to get attached to the characters. 2. Agency. Agency refers to the choices made by the characters and player. There's a clear distinct between Player Agency (aka choices the Player makes) and Character Agency (the choices the Characters make). It isn't meta like Undertale's take on the matter, but it's still there. If you need a good example, the bathroom scene with Basil and Sunny is a great one. The player has no option but to leave Basil behind in the bathroom because that's what Sunny chooses to do. He chooses do that because confronting Basil there would mean confronting the Truth and Sunny just isn't ready for that yet. Okay so, after you defeat Humphrey, you swim through the caverns of deep well. During so, you're told basically "You're close to finding the truth. Keep going." You go back to Neighbors Room. If you haven't collected all the keys, you have to go search for them. If you have collected all them, you're supposed to go to Basil's house, where you will enter Black Space. If White Space is nothing, Black Space is everything. Black Space is all the trauma Sunny has repressed. You go through various rooms, being told by Stranger basically, "Face the truth, it's the only way to save Basil." In a few of the rooms, you do actually find Basil, but he dies in some very brutal ways. Basil dying has multiple meanings to it, but I think it's supposed to represent how not facing the truth will kill basil, as in the neutral endings, he commits suicide. After you leave Black Space, you go into a church and find Basil being held and absorbed by SOMETHING. This is showing Sunny that Basil is being crushed under the weight of the truth. A text box shows up asking you, "Do you want to save Basil?" You have to select yes to continue. You get absorbed by SOMETHING and find yourself and Basil in front of the sliding glass door, colored a bright red. Basil says "there's something leading me out there....". When he tries to go out, he backs away from the door, only to be dragged out the door by SOMETHING. When you go through the door, you are greeted with a black-red empty space.

You see Basil's hand tracks and follow them. The game gives you no other choice to. You go, and find Basil being held by red hands.

Basil apologogizes, saying, "I'm.... I'm so sorry.... Will you forgive me? My best friend...." He's shaking, trying to get out of the hands grip. He cries and begs for you to do something, to make the hands let go of him. But you can't do anything. Omori steps closer. Basil keeps begging you to get the hands to stop. As Basil shouts, "HELP ME!!" Omori.... pulls out his knife. He stabs him twice. And you are forced to watch a cutscene of Sunny climbing stairs, and sitting on a throne made out of red, hyper-realistic hands. All the while he stares at you, emotionless. As if he doesn't care what he just did. This scene is amazing for multiple reasons. The color palette completely changes from the soft pastel purple/blues headspace is, and realistic, yet gentle, coloring from faraway town into a harsh red and black. The big, realistic hands are a slap in the face when you're used to the cute hand-drawn style the rest of the game uses. And Omoris faceless expression as he does it only makes it worse. It's absolutely one of the most stand-out moments of the game. Not only that, but it just adds to the mystery of whats going on. At this point, you still don't know what happened to Mari. It's so confusing and disturbing. The OST only adds to it. The ost is like, they made music but took away everything that makes it click. It sounds like car tires screeching. It doesn't help that after this scene, the game moves on like it just never happened. So, what the fuck does this scene mean? At the start of the game, Omori is nothing more than an OC for Sunny to fuck around with. Headspace is simply a distraction from the pain Sunny is in, and Omori is a means of creating and exploring that distraction. Like drawing with a pen. Omori was made to protect Sunny from the truth, but everything keeps pushing Sunny into confronting it. This scene is the moment Omori turns against Sunny. He wasn't able to keep Sunny from finding out the truth, so he turns against him, embracing the trauma and becoming the very thing Sunny was trying to run away from. The hands are meant to represent the guilt Sunny feels for what he did to Mari. And the final boss fight against him shows that. But there's a bit more to it then what it means story-wise. This is also the moment where Omori detaches himself from the player and signifies himself as his own character. You, the player, want to save Basil. The whole game up to this point revolves around you trying to save him. Even if you don't like Basil, you'd have to be some kind of monster to see Basil BEGGING for help and NOT want to help. The game almost tricks you into thinking you can save Basil here, with that "do you want to save Basil?" text box. But you don't have the power here. Omori does. Omori completely strips you of your agency and forces you to watch as he asends his throne. All the while staying neutral. He knows what he's done, but doesn't care.

WHILE I WAS TRYING TO ACTUALLY CELEBRATE 0801 TOO.

Before "D.N.I."s ever existed on this Site, we used banners like these.

ALL OF US HAD THEM. ALMOST EVERY SINGLE ONE OF US. BECAUSE PEOPLE KEPT STEALING OUR SHIT FOR THEIR OWN WEB SHRINES AND NEVER OWNED UP TO IT WHEN CAUGHT.

I literally had one of the first 02 O.C. shrines on the web. If people like that visited my site, they were confronted with this banner on the very first page. It looked similar to the page of the Neo-cities revival I've been working on for over a month now.

This is what I have to emphasize now.

People still will blatantly ignore it, talk over you, try to convince you in their own damn terms "actually, this is the IMAGE STEALING website, so of COURSE I'm allowed to steal your images, creations, fan things and every single one of your O.C.s with their exact palettes too, you didn't create this O.C. you only ~re-colored~ it and those pixels {by hand}!!1!!!!" and "you should be grateful, it means free publicity!!!" and "YOU DONT OWN *COPY-RIGHT* TO OTHERS *ORIGINAL I.P.s*""

They'll wax poetic about the "old O.C. days" on D.A., when I was on D.A. too, I STILL HAVE AN ACCOUNT THERE, and I would have confronted them their about stealing my shit too, and I *might* have gotten a slightly better response from D.A. back then.

They'll post about their O.C.s while blatantly ignoring me DEMANDING them multiple times to remove my gif.

They'll talk about the "~old Adventure fan base~" "~before all these CRINGE AUTISTS ruined it~" all without knowing I WAS AN ~AUTIST~ EVEN BACK THEN, AND I HID THIS FACT BECAUSE OF PEOPLE LIKE THIS.

They'll claim they have ~nostalgia~.

Nostalgia{/c goggles} in DigiAdvs standom shouldn't be a term used to refer to an Adventure fan, or an 02 fan, or a TAICHI FAN OR FAN OF THE ADVENTURE CHOSEN who is showing appreciation towards that and those characters too, until people trash them, people like this making positive works for the Chosen, leave anti-semitic hate comments on their work once they know about your family and the holidays you're trying to recognize.....

They should be used to refer to people like THIS, like these "02 stans" or "Adventure-02-Kizuna" only stans {all while trashing on Meiko and Tri in the meantime} who will blatantly steal your work and reproduce it for their ~anti Tri~ HATE POSTS and mock you and call you "cringe" for confronting them.

But oh it's not just the 02 standom who's been pulling this shit.

It's Adventure stans. It's TAMERS STANS. It's even Frontier stans, even Savers stans, even Xros Wars & Young Hunters stans, even SURVIVE STANS, even stans of all the other entries in the series who have pulled the same kind of shit. FREQUENTLY.

This person actually DID the right thing and removed it, even when I confronted them, even when they BLATANTLY may have even pretended to not even KNOW WHO THE HELL MEIKO WAS (when she's mentioned right there IN THE POST.)

You (general) people who never even fully finished Tri don't know who Meiko is, and yet you'll rb a post bashing a girl called Meiko and not put two and two together...

its a storyboard! im making a humanized version of a scene from the new G5 movie (though i wont say which scene)

i can show you the wip human designs ive made for the mane 5, though! (+info on some design choices under the cut, but remember that these are just wips)

i originally designed sunny with an orange sweatshirt and sneakers, but i decided to basically overhaul her outfit to look more breezy/summer friendly. its admittedly pretty plain (and i might change the colors on her shirt so that her sleeves dont blend in so much to her hair), but i wanted it to look like something someone would actually wear in hot weather. so. flipflops

izzys outfit is goth and glitter. the unicorns in the movie all have an emo thing going on, so i wanted izzys outfit to kind of look like she’d bought an outfit at the store and then modified it herself to have more glitter and bright colors. i know she says “im a bit too sparkly for bridlewood” in the movie, and that i wouldve been justified in just giving her an extremely girly-girl outfit with pinks and purples, but i just wanted to give her an outfit with an overall darker palette to contrast the other characters. i imagine she keeps sewing supplies, glitter, etc. in the little bags on her hip :) little girls like goth characters and they love excitable characters, so i think combining the two would make for a really cute fashion doll. sort of like a purple draculaura?

zipps outfit is probably going to be the one to change the most the more i draw her. the only notes i can give are that 1. i wanted it to be flowy and somewhat regal, and 2. i totally hit a wall designing it and it is just kinda ugly imo. sorry i did you dirty zipp, ill figure out what to do with your outfit later on lol

pipps outfit is my faaavorite. her dress is meant to mimic her hoof (pink fading to white, and then a layer of gold fabric to represent the gold of her hooves), and her shoe design is a reference to the leg accessories on her crystal adventure toy. i gave her a fluffy shawl instead of a feathery boa because iiiii like it

finally, hitchs outfit is just pretty basic. he is sheriff, he gets sheriff outfit. i wanted to give him something flashier, but these are designs for how the characters would look in their very first appearances, so this is all he gets. ideally, throughout the movie id want them to get different outfits (they all dress in more “gothic” fashion to help blend in with the unicorns, for example)

i dont have a real channel, since i only have two videos and theyre both just compilations. i would like to start making art related videos (probably just storyboards and things like that), but i have a bad habit of starting projects and then never finishing them, so thats a hurdle i have to get over first lol . but im gonna really try to finish this one!!!

i wanna make a ref sheet for my mouse men as like .. a species .. i think i want to try making a picrew dolldivine flash game style thing for them rambling about mouse phenotypes under the cut

i think I'd like to base them on irl mice as much as I can as far as genetics go... I'd like for their pigmentation, coat color, eye color etc to mostly be in line w what's possible w real mice.

Wildtype mice are generally an undifferentiated agouti, so I think to provide the same kinda variety humans have I'll take from mutations in fancy mice (ie colors that only appear in domesticated populations).

when unpigmented, the skin of mousemen would be much "rosier" than human skin due to how thin it is. For the same reason, the skin of their feet and hands is pinker than their bodies. Ears, although thin, do not contain many blood vessels, and so while they tend to be significantly paler, they are frequently less pink than the body. unlike humans, whose palm skin is thinner and therefore lighter, mousemen have a lighter coloration on their entire hand and foot, which is lighter still on its fleshy pads (thats another thing. they have pawpads, and their hands are "chunkier" due to their proportions)

darker pigment on the skin of mice is often "ashier" and cooler toned than pigmented human skin. That said I'd like to include some warmer tones to sort of mix the mouse and human palette im creating. I think maybe I could associate warmer tones micemen w more outdoorsy strains, and cooler toned ones as being found indoors and underground.

Domestic mice can be piebald, and I think mousemen could be as well. Hair on the body and head would match pigmentation of the skin beneath.

As far as eyes go, mousemen usually have black or dark brown eyes, rarely green or red. They cannot have blue eyes.

Coat/hair is where I'll be trying to stick as close as possible to irl mice phenotypes i think. i found a very very good website abt mice coat colors that ive been using as a reference (in addition to more recent stuff). mousemen would be able to have agouti coloration of their hair (unlike humans and higher primates who seem to have lost it), as well as piebald markings, merle or brindle coloration.

i also think that mousemen for the most part have short hair, and can't actually grow very long hair. most mousemen can only grow their hair at its longest to their shoulders, like morgan. certain mutations allow them to grow longer hair (like longhaired mice). their hair texture i think would also be different. in general it is soft and matte, and it is much less oily than human hair. shiny, thin hair, and curly hair are both uncommon. however they CAN have fur all over their bodies. it depends on their genetics but they can be mostly human-like in terms of their hair growth (like morgan) or like little fucking furry mousebeasts .

the big tail tuft that morgan has is uncommon. most mouseppl dont have the huge tuft that morgan does, and their tail is more reasonably proportioned, like a gerbils. their tails are a little stiffer than mouse or rat tails.

i thiiink thats everything for now. OH WAIT. their teeth. mousemen, despite the name, and being based off mice, are not actually rodents!! they do not have the eternally growing teeth that rodents do, and their mouth is more similar to that of a possum or raccoon. that have sharp little fangs and grinding teeth in the back.

SO i just finished wonder egg priority and i think that with confidence i can say it has been one of my favorite animes like... ever ?? and not even from hyperfixation or obsession over it just... its so fucking real yet so simple in a way that i havent rlly seen shown in any other shows you feel ??

but first i wanna talk about how sexy the art and animation is real quick... HOMIE ITS SO GOOD LIKE EVERYTHING ABOUT IT JUST... serotonin... the characters are all so unique and iconic and fun but not over the top in their designs yknow ??? they seem like regular every day girls but they stand out and theyre all sO CUTE !!!! also i love how the style is like this soft bubbly slice of life lookin stuff with bright happy colors and the most beautiful scenes you could find but they also have the SICKEST fight scenes complete with whimsical animal helpers and terrifying villains and crazy weapons unique to each character. and the animation. god DAMN shawty i am obsessed with everything in this show. i might make a post solely about the art later lol bc i wanna get into the other stuff.

so the themes in the show right ?? it starts just as this cute lil magical girl kinda deal but within the first episode we see that like.. oh damn... thats kinda heavy... tbh i was a little shocked and thought about stopping bc yknow bad mental health BUT i was so intrigued that i had to keep going and i am SO GLAD that i did. because this show just so beautifully discusses all these heavy topics in such an eloquent and artistically expressive way. and also like, , the juxtaposition of the charming childlike vibe with bright colors and 14 yr old girl protagonists against the dark themes of suicide and so much else,, i think is just perfect. bc a lot of heavy animes are more of the seinen genre and have some middle aged dude as a protag or make the entire color palette dim or offer little relief to the pain of these heavy themes right ?? but NO not wonder egg bitches B) because these problems arent just things that ppl face later in life or just problems that need to be talked about among adults or the edgy seinen watching squad,, these are REAL problems that face people of every age, gender etc and i think its awesome that wonder egg addresses that. some may cringe at the thought of their high schooler watching animes that discuss sexual harassment, suicide, abuse, self harm, eating disorders etc,, but in reality it is the most comforting thing i have ever come across and is basically jsut free anime therapy. because not only does wonder egg present these themes to the viewers as something real that happens to all kinds of people (making said people feel heard in a way that maybe they hadnt before), but it also makes sure to vanquish all of these forms of trauma. and the way the trauma is vanquished isnt always beautiful and it isnt always just magically gone with a poof. the struggles of overcoming or living with that sort of thing are shown in such a real and relatable way that addresses every hardship trauma survivors have to go through. and i just. god i cry bro. 

oh m y GOD and the lgbtq+ rep in this show ?? like shawty... as soon as i saw episode one i was picking up on some gay/lesbian themes but then again im sapphic and project that a lot so i tend to see that sort of stuff like... everywhere... but NE WAYS... episode ten made me FUKCING CRY BRO LIke i cant believe there was a whole trans character with a whole trans pride hoodie like LKGHKDGH my heart is just so.. so fucking full thinking about him. bc like yeah i know there are trans characters in anime but i feel like theyre always very ambiguous about actually being trans or not or erased or portrayed as a harmful stereotype or theyre constantly misgendered and still refered to as their assigned gender at birth and i hate it. HOWEVEr... Kaoru.. *chefs kiss* it was so amazing to see a character straight up say “yeah im trans” in such a casual yet powerful way bc i personally have never seen that before. and i love love loved how he went into his backstory and talked to momoe about gender bc i think thats what she rlly needed and that it helped her find herself and it makes me so happy oh my god,, and the way they talked about it never seemed forced or like it was the focal point of his existence yknow ?? like yeah he existed to help momoe overcome some of her trauma but he also just existed to be HIM yknow ?? also... personally, i headcanon momoe as a trans girl even though i dont remember it being explicitly stated plus the school scenes of her and stuff would seem like they suggest otherwise ??but,,, SHAWTY THE AMOUNT OF SUBTEXT and her complicated relationship w gender is... something i feel like a cis girl would not go through so harshly yknow ?? with all of the questioning and feeling detached from femininity or feeling like ppl dont see her as an actual girl and only like her as a guy or for her masculine traits,,, but dont take my word on this bc i myself am a cis girl but that was just my take on it as someone in the lgbtq+ community trying to educate myself on the transgender community :) either way,, wonder eggs portrayal of momoe and kaoru and the way that momoe becomes so passionate about expressing herself the way she wants to as a girl is just... good lord im gonna cry its so perfect,,,.so ... i just love this show way too much. i also am honestly super lost about the relationship btwn acca and ura-acca ?? bc i was gonna mention ura-acca as a canonically gay guy bc when i was watching i interpreted ep 11 as him being in love with acca and being jealous of Azusa (bc i mean,, they lived together (i swear to god there was only one bed in that apartment) and had a daughter together and def loved each other and also when Frill said they were husbands and then when ura-acca said he wasnt attracted to azusa but he was def jealous of their relationship ??) but then i saw somewhere that theyre brothers ?? which would make sense ig since they look kinda similar and accas daughter called ura-acca “uncle”.. but at the same time its ANIME SO THEY ALL LOOK SIMILAR and referring to gay couples as siblings is an EXTREMELY common euphemism soooo... IM JUST LOST HERE... but yeah i tried doing research and found different things so i cant say anything for sure >:( however,,, if they are canonically a lil fruity for each other... when frill refered to acca as ura-accas husband i imploded dude you never hear that sort of wording in anime.. but if theyre related i am so sorry. 

god this is so much longer than i planned it to be oops but i also love the theme about like.. relying on friends to help carry your weight but at the same time not becoming completely dependent on those friends and using their support to learn how to love yourself and rely on yourself yknow ?? bc that is exactly what healthy friendships look like. bc i think ai sort of had a codependency thing goin on with koito maybe ?? but now she has a whole squad of funky friends that are so so different but all struggle with different kinds of trauma and although they fight over it, they always get through it with each other together. and they push each other no matter what to be the best versions of themselves and they teach other that getting hurt is okay because theyre always gonna be there to pick up the pieces no matter what happens. they can give each other space when they need and adapt to meet each others needs but theyre always able to balance it out with their own needs and thats such a beautiful thing in friendships especially at their age like damn i wish i had that maturity when i was 14 but no all i had was depression. another thing is that through these friendships you get to see all the different sides of each girl; you get to see them being strong or a shining light to their friends when theyre hurting but you also get to see them being hurt and weak and allowing themselves to be on the receiving end of the comfort. their friendships allows them to have weaknesses but it also allows them to highlight their strengths and thrive off of each others. I LOVE FRIENDSHIP DUDE

next i wanna briefly mention some of the themes connected to suicide that ive noticed. a big one is the survivors guilt that ai feels once koito is dead. several times she screams that she wishes she couldve gone with koito and she dreams of a “perfect world” where they committed a double suicide. one of the main reasons for her troubles is that she blames herself for koitos death and feels like it should be her thats dead... but at the same time she feels like too much of a coward to do anything now that koito is gone. she just has all these complex and contradicting feelings that wear away at her in ways that ppl that havent gone through the suicide of a loved one could never imagine. a lot of the times when things like this are portrayed in media i feel like its more in a way thats meant to guilt trip those that have taken their own lives and paint suicide as this selfish sin thats unforgivable but... not only does wonder egg reject that idea and instead portray it as a heartbreaking tragedy with,,, so so many terrible reasons, but it focuses on the feelings of ai separate from koito without blaming her in any way. not once did i feel like the show antagonized koito or that ai blamed koito for doing any of this, but they simply mourned her loss and touched on ais reaction towards the event but separate from koito herself if that makes sense. and i think that discussing survivors guilt without painting koito as the bad guy is something so beautifully done in wonder egg that can really resonate with those that have lost a loved one to suicide and have struggled with these same things.

okay i think this is the last thing ill mention,,, but HOMIE THE PARALLEL UNIVERSE BIT AT THE END. I AM. OBSESSED. i am such a whore for anything about the multiverse okay n e ways...,, not only did this make a super epic trippy ending of season one and add a little bit more magical girl whimsy to the show,, but it had such a powerful message. from the perspective of og ai,, finding out that you killed yourself in another world is... i mean its definitely not a surprise but at the same time it rlly makes you think how close og ai herself couldve been to that point and what decisions led her out of that dark place in her life. if i were in her shoes i would be terrified and id cry bc the thought of going back to such a dark place and actually going through with something like that is my worst fear and probably something that ai fears too. but at the same time,,, think from the perspective of ai two !!! like yeah its true that theres this awful terrible version of ai that dies but theres also a whole version of ai that is a superhero magical girl fighting off monsters to save countless ppls lives !! and she has a badass lizard and a gang of awesome friends !!! at first i was worried that ai two would be jealous of og ai and compare herself to her and feel inferior but like.. THEYRE LITERALLY THE SAME PERSON AND CAPABLE OF THE SAME THINGS !!! and ai two realized that !! just within the span of one episode, she went from the version of ai who took her life,, to the version of ai jumping in front of a friend to take a bullet for them and save their life. and that just inspired THE SHIT OUT OF ME. i think that ai was sent another version of herself to sort of beat her own worst enemy yknow ?? those doubts and fears that shes no good or that shes that same bystander from episode one and that she hasnt changed at all. but getting to interact with her parallel self and see her grow was just what she needed to realize that while yeah sometimes the worst thing can happen and things can be terrible but on the other hand sometimes the most wonderful thing imaginable can happen because she has the power to do either. 

so im gonna go ahead and stop rambling bc i got all my thoughts out that i wanted to for this post :D but yeah lol i might make another if i feel like it sometime. long story short: this show is perfect and it is going on my favorite of all times.

mildly op (esp at the beginning with how hes kind of able to just use his stand really well w no problems altho i think thats true of most of the jojos that we have seen animated?)

i am emotionally attached to him and want to give him a big hug

hes just a kinda goofy kid and is maybe a bit not good with figuring out hey this is a semi dangerous situation maybe i shouldnt be taunting him (leaky eye luca for example)

has the actual best theme

i love how he works off the rest of the team so well (even w members who do not like him)

the fucking way his character develops from licky man to best dad material is my favorite thing

his outfit is so so so good i would die to wear it

in general this man is one of my fave jojos characters and i get a lot of comfort from him

hes just really neat and has a good taste in music

he did his fucking best and i will always love him for that

imo the way that his death was drawn out was genuinely one of the most heartbreaking deaths in the entire series and fucks me up each time i think of it

i feel like he really is the one to hold the team together in a way that everyone feels cared for and saved

the light novel purple haze feedback is so so so good and adds sm to his character and i really like it for that!

genuinely the vibes between how he treats narancia is v interesting to me, like its clear he cares about nara but nara not doing great w math really frustrates him

the jokes towards trish are really really uncomfy and how fugo doesnt wanna be involved but he is pushing him to do something that makes him uncomfortable did not make me like him a lot

hes goofy but not goofy enough for me to be ok with the repeated jokes about that esp in the body swap episode (ik it was supposed to be funny but it just felt off)

his vibes r good but i wish we got to see his hair

the fandom interpretation is normally pretty good of him overall?

despite not loving him a lot, i really enjoying writing for him (one day might open up headcanon requests or smth but unsure)

hes someone id wanna watch movies w but his taste in movies and mine r very different

love how he and his stand get along

honestly has very very good comedic potential

This green haired girl is named Mai. I don't know her last name actually- But anyway, she's the ultimate belly dancer ^^ Her little snake arm thing is a reference to her pet snake :) Her little veil on her face is to cover a cleft lip scar ^^

This is my original character ^^ She's really basic as she was my first ever danganronpa OC, though I've never really had the heart to change her ^^' She's the ultimate dancer! She has hearing aids, but I've never had the chance to really display them- Lemme hear some of your thoughts please :D

Ok first of all, Thank You for sending me these! They all look really good! You asked for commentary and i would love to give some.

Before i start, i just wanna say that any suggestions i give are just that: Suggestions! You do not have to take them seriously or take them at all. The thing that matters most is that the designs make you happy! And with that, lets analyze:

Danielle:

-very good aesthetic. She looks tough!

-for color palette reasons i would do a very slight adjustment on either the pants, shirt or vest. Just make one of them (i suggest the shirt) lighter, so it really brings it all together

-i would personally go the extra mile to beefen her up, since demo takes a lot work. I would add scars that are just a tad bit more visible too, to really sell the “tough guy look”

-however i have no qualms with this character design! its really great :))

Mai:

-i saw her and almost instantly guessed her ultimate.

-thats what good character design does, it reveals the most important details about a character

-i only have two, very subtle changes that i would make

-i would probably change the shoes, or just forego them completely, and opt for some stacked ankle jewelry (it adds to the aesthetic)

-i would also do a subtle hair color change. The green hair is pretty but its a tad bit distracting from her GORGEOUS outfit. I would just pick a darker, more muted shade of green, or just do dark brown or black.

-of these character designs, this one probably is my favorite

Ieshi:

-she‘s very cute!

-i know u said she’s the ultimate dancer, so i had some fun ideas to spice her up

-first off: Add the hearing aids!!! Representation is important, especially for people with disabilities.

-An easy way to show the hearing aids and also add to the dancer aesthetic is to pull her hair back (most dance classes dont allow you to wear your hair down for class)

-a ponytail will really set her apart from other dr characters

-Also maybe giving her a more dancer-y outfit, to add to her silhouette

-Something like this will make her individual to the large cast of characters

-one more thing. the color palette. i like the colors as a guideline, but they are very dark - midtone, which might muddy things in certain sprites. This is also a pretty easy fix.

-Heres an adjusted color palette that keeps a similar feel to the original, but is a bit more concise and has enough variation to make it a bit less confusing.

-Overall i like the character and concept, and i totally wanna know more about her

hello, sorry if this might be weird but im planning to apply for an art major and im a bit confused with the whole portfolio thing and just in general what needs to be done before applying to an art major, and since you're a visual arts major i was wondering if u could share some tips/advice about creating portfolio and just what steps to take? again sorry for weird ask, ive just reached a point where im rlly confused and extremely nervous about college and all that comes with it, thank you in advance

1. Check if the universities you’re applying to actually require or not a portfolio, and if thats the case i advice you to check what the university is showing, what they’re teaching, alumni that have graduated and their own work and portfolios, so you have a base of what the university is interested in. (Per example, we know CalArts and Gobelins have a very distinct brand, so you want to show stuff that is similar to what they do in your portfolio to get more chances to get in, and this same thing applies to other universities) 

2. You should try to have a variety of works that will show that you are capable of doing a lot of different things, if we take the example of being an illustrator/graphic designer you can show that you can do character design, then background, then animals, motion, and so on in different mediums, but mostly all of it within a same style so it has consistency, which is very important. If you’re a visual arts major you can show different mediums, like photography, sculpture and painting but everything you show has to be cohesive with each other.

3. InDesign is a very good platform to build your portfolio. Per my teachers advice: show off but keep it short, concise, no one wants to watch a 40 pages long portfolio, and mostly try to stick to a short color palette. Don’t overdo with words and explanations and don’t overdo pages decorations. Use at 3-4 fonts though.  Since we are Visual Arts majors our works are usually....well, a lot, and since all of it had to be photographed try to choose pictures that have a similar color palettes so it doesn’t look too heavy on the eye. Put a small description of year, medium, technique, and name if it’s needed. If you actually look up both artists and architects portfolios you will find some good inspiration!

So, if i had to put the portfolio making into steps:

1. Investigate/research the universities youre applying to and pin down what you see about them, style, classes, graduates, etc.

2. Create a different portfolio for each university youre applying to because most of them will require different things, you can use the same pictures if you want to but with a different emphasis in each one of them.

3. Choose a design that you think will benefit your works, choose a color palette, a couple of nice fonts, and dont cramp too many pictures in just one page unless it has a very styled design that youre trying to follow, and even if thats the case try not to pick images that are too ‘’visually heavy’’ to cram together in just one page.

4. Look for art portfolio references! Artists, architecture, projects, everything will help and you will see that creating one is much more easy and less scary than it sounds. Stay away from the stock photos of portfolios though, theyre usually unrealistic. 

5. Clara Lieu on youtube have many videos about portfolio making, like this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VBWu8xBfZCw  so check them out and see if it helps too, specially if youre american because she shows people who have been accepted into RISD, Calarts and so on.
