Let's start! The cat in question:

[ID: A very darkly colored stripey cat. There are some infos written under the picture: Mango, Domestic Short Hair, Hyde Park, NY, Adult, Female, Medium. End ID.]

Oké! This is a very unique kitty, and i do have a guess: she's charcoal, kind of an intermediate phenotype between tabby and solid, caused by the combination of the nonagouti (a) and the asian leopard cat's agouti allele (APb). It's an officinal coloration of the bengal breed - which is born from the crossing of the housecat and the asian leopard cat -, but sometimes it turns up in randombred cats (possibly via an unsupervised bengal...)

Why am I thinking charcoal? Let's see some charcoal cats, and compare them to regular tabbies!

On the second two: a black charcoal and a black tabby; on the third three: a black tabby, a black charcoal and a black tabby point bengal cat cuddles. The fourth and the fifth are close-ups of a tabby and charcoal cat's face. End ID] source, source, source, source

So! You can see how darker the charcoal is than a regular tabby, with sometimes almost completely blacking out (and keep it mind that bengals always have very strong contrast, so i think on a randombred charcoal cat the patterns can disappear even more). The cat on the third picture is especially similar to Mango in terms of darkness.

Now look at the faces! The tabby has a pinkish-brownish nose, the bridge is brown, and overall has rather light shades. The charcoal cat has black nose and very strong black patterning on the face, resulting in a much darker impression than the tabby. These are all true for Mango. (I think the black nose is especially important; this is very uncharacteristic for tabby cats.)

In summary, this is my theory: black charcoal.
