Humpy Bong now available on streaming!
In case you missed the announcement last week, Tim Staffell has put the two tracks he recorded with Humpy Bong up on streaming platforms!
Spotify | Apple Music | Amazon Music
If you plan on looking them up anywhere else, make sure you search for "Humpy Bong" specifically because Tim released these under the band's name and not his own!

Humpy Bong was the short-lived group that Tim joined immediately after leaving Smile in the spring of 1970. Founded by ex-Bee Gees drummer Colin Peterson and Irish musician Jonathan Kelly, the band only recorded two songs and broke up by the end of the year.
"Don't You Be Too Long" was released as a single, backed with "We're Alright Till Then". Both songs were written by Jonathan Kelly but feature Tim Staffell on lead vocals. "Don't You Be Too Long" was performed on Top of the Pops on October 22, 1970 and was the only "live" show that Humpy Bong ever did, as the band had significant issues finding additional permanent members to round out their line-up. The tape for their Top of the Pops performance has never been released and is presumed to be lost.
Tim Staffell had previously released the Humpy Bong tracks on his digital album "Parallel World", which features unreleased or forgotten songs from his 1970s musical career.
Note: The Wikipedia page for Humpy Bong has some significant errors with regards to the band's timeline and Top of the Pops appearances. "Don't You Be Too Long" was not released until August 1970 (as per dates printed on the records), making it impossible for Tim to have appeared on Top of the Pops to promote the single "within a month or so of leaving Smile" as is claimed on the wiki page.
Rather, Tim's first Top of the Pops appearance was as part of Jonathan Kelly & Friends performing "Don't You Believe It" on July 23, 1970. Kelly had released the single as part of his solo career earlier in the year and it originally featured Eric Clapton on the guitar. However, Clapton was unavailable for the Top of the Pops performance. It was policy at the time that no performer could mime an instrument that they didn't play on the backing track, so Tim was chosen to re-record the guitar part and appear on Top of the Pops in place of Clapton.
The dates for both appearances (with Jonathan Kelly & Friends and with Humpy Bong) can be confirmed on the Top of the Pops archive website.

“The very first time we met Freddie was when he came to one of our gigs. He said, ‘You guys are great, great, great, you are really, really brilliant , but you should do this and you should do that, you should be more of a dramatic act, you should have more lights, more sound…’. Okay Freddie!
We were like, who is this guy? We said what are you? Freddie said, ‘Well, I’m a singer darling, I’m a singer.’
Oh really. Okay, fine! He kept turning up to our gigs and saying the same things.
We were getting into difficult ground, we were getting no where, we were a band called ‘Smile.’
Our singer got enticed away from us by some group called ‘Humpy Bong’ and he went off to the big time.
We were thinking ‘great, what the hell are we going to do’ and at that moment Freddie said, ‘I’ll sing for you.’ ☺️
I said, ‘Can you even sing?’ He said, ‘Yes, of course, I can sing.’ We got together and practiced. Our first impression of Freddie was ‘Oh My God!’ He was very ebullient, very exuberant and his way of delivery was just dashing around the whole time and screaming his head off. So, we were a bit taken back. We thought okay, he means well.
So, after a few rehearsals and we played a couple of exploratory gigs, we realized that this Freddie guy could sing and he had a lot of great ideas. It was Roger, myself and Freddie at this point. We had gone through a number of bass players. We had a hard time finding a bass player who had the right sort of spirit for us. We went through about a dozen. Then we found John Deacon. We all just seemed to click and somehow in a moment, Queen was born.
It obviously changed all of our lives. I don’t think any of us realized quite where it would take us. It’s amazing looking back. We were just kids. We were young people with dreams. Impossible dreams, really. We thought, we could change the world. “
Brian May 2010 interview with Aaron Truss
Four extraordinary musicians who did change the world of music. Queen are true originals. Timeless music that stands the test of time!”

Tim Staffel born in London, 24 February 1948
🔸Staffel revealed how Mercury, then known as Farrokh Bulsara, would tell his schoolmates: 'Some day I'm going to be a superstar.'
'[Freddie] was a civilised guy, not rough round the edges,' added Tim. 'I never ever saw him swear or say a bad word at anybody.
'Some people's egotism is offensive but not with Freddie. He was always a lovely, lovely guy. There was none of that avarice for fame.'
- During the late 1960s, Tim Staffell was the frontman of the band Smile, alongside guitarist Brian May.
However in 1970, Tim took the decision to leave the band for another outfit called Humpy Bong, forcing the exiting members to recruit Freddie Mercury as singer.
While Humpy Bong was over within five years, Queen would go on to become one of the best-selling bands of all time.
He added: 'I was desperately envious. The only thing I'd say in my defence is that I was never destructively jealous. But by God I was envious.'
Tim, who now lives in a semi-detached home in Richmond, south-west London, had been schoolfriends with Mercury at Ealing Art College.

Is this just fantasy? Chapter 2
Pairing: Brian May x Reader
Warnings:
Summary: "Want me to bring back some ice-cream, and you can bitch about how horrible you day was?”
The idea of ice-cream had never been more appealing. “I believe Ben and Jerry’s is on sale at the moment, I could really go from some chunky monkey.”
“I never understood why you like that one so much!”
“I try to convince myself that because it’s banana flavoured then it must be healthy.”
“As a dietician in training, it is my duty to tell you, that that is not by any means true.”
“For a dietician in training, you eat an awful lot of instant mac & cheese.”
“Whoa now, there is no such thing as too much mac & cheese!”
Chapter two: Listen carefully to the sound of your loneliness
If you haven’t read chapter One yet, check it out here!
Roger sauntered his way over to the bar, his eyes focused solely on the woman who had entered the pub only minutes earlier. The fact that she was currently face planted into the counter didn’t bother him too much, his standards were relatively low tonight, he would happily take home anyone just to prove Brian wrong! He couldn’t care less if the woman he was quickly approaching was a mental case who was actually licking the counter, rather than just resting her head. Anyone would do, so long as they said yes. As he stepped up besides the woman, he cleared his throat, a coy smirk donning his boyish face. He had expected her to swoon, or perhaps blush, that’s what usually happened when he presented himself to the opposite sex. This reaction, however, was entirely unexpected, and had him fearing he had lost his charm!
                                                          ********
You startle at the noise beside you, not having expected anyone to disturb your self-wallowing. You had found yourself spiralling into a panic attack as the realisation of what was going on around you, really began to sink in. Somehow, you really were in 1970’s London, and for the life of you, you couldn’t figure out how. The last thing you could remember, before falling asleep was talking to Sara about ice-cream flavours, after that, everything seemed to be a bit of a blur. The feeling of falling remained with you after your dream, but surely a dream couldn’t have caused this? The person clears their throat again, and his time you look up at them, your slumped shoulders lifting so you sat gracefully on the stool. Your eyes travelled up the body beside you, trailing from the feet, past the bellbottom jeans, over the masculine chest, and finally resting on the stunningly attractive face, of the one and only, blue eyed beauty, Roger Fucking Taylor.
Your face must have given away just how shocked you were, as Roger visibly stepped back, a flicker of surprise passing his baby blues. The ever so slight sliver of hope that this was all an elaborate prank, that had remained with you vanished in a matter of seconds. Your eyebrows creased together, as your mouth opened and closed in an excellent impression of a fish, as you desperately tried to form words. “You’re Roger Taylor” You breathed out, your voice raising a few octaves as you looked at him.
Roger blinked his eyes three times, before leaning his hip against the counter, grinning down at you. “Ah, you know me then do you? I’m positive that I would remember someone as lovely as you, but just in case I did somehow forget, what’s your name love?” He practically purred, trailing his index finger along your jaw. The logical part of your mind argued that you should keep quiet, there was far too much at stake, and knowing your luck, you would say something that could completely change the course of history entirely! The only problem with that however, was that you had never been a very logical person, and were more inclined to speak first, think later. This meant, the moment those thoughts entered your mind, you found yourself voicing the exact opposite.
   “What? No! You don’t know me at all. You’ve never met me, and I’ve never met you either! But I used to have your posters up in my room when I was growing up. Well not just posters of you, all of Queen! I had my first kiss to sail away sweet sister!” And there it was, the word vomit. By the time you realised what you had said, poor Roger looked utterly terrified. His eyes had grown impossibly wide, and he seemed to be shaking, and you could swear you almost heard his heart hammering away in his chest.
“I have no idea what you are talking about, but I think I’ll leave you be now. Have a lovely night Miss.” He mumbles, taking a half step backwards. The moment he moves, you leap up from your stool, clasping your hands around his biceps, unaware that the two men he had been sitting with just before were making their way towards the two of you.
                                                                                      ****
Brian reaches the two of you first, he had been watching the exchange between his band mate, and the young woman with a great deal of interest. Brian knew what to expect, after having watched Roger use his charm on many a woman before. Though something was different this time, he could tell, from Roger’s expression, that things didn’t appear to be going the way he had been expecting. The poor man looked visibly shaken, and like he was about to go running out of the pub. The moment the woman stood, and grabbed Roger, he knew he had to do something. He pushed his chair away from the table, and leapt to his feet, Tim following his lead soon after. The two men appeared beside Roger in a matter of seconds, the moment they arrived Roger seemed to relax somewhat. “Miss, is everything alright?” He asked gently, as Tim stepped away a few paces with Roger. The poor woman looked terrified, and on the verge of tears, perhaps Roger had picked the wrong woman to chase tonight?
                                                                                    ****
You feel like you’re about to collapse as you look up into the deep brown eyes of the world-famous guitarist before you, he’s so young, yet still so incredibly handsome. His words shake you from your thoughts as you stare up at him. “No of course I’m not bloody alright!” You practically shriek, how could any of this situation possibly make you alright? “You’re Brian May, And you! You’re Tim Staffell!”
Both men look rather surprised at your outburst, as Roger simply nods along. “That’s exactly what she said to me too! Scared the bloody life out of me.” He mutters, just loud enough so your small group could hear him. Your hands hover mid-air from where you had been clinging to Roger, and you find yourself unable to bring them down.
Brian is the first to come to his senses, stepping forwards and in-between you and Roger, he reaches out to, wrapping his long, slender fingers around each of your wrists, carefully lowering them down to your sides. “Ok, lets start slowly. Can you tell us what your name is?” He asks carefully, guiding you over to the table he, Roger and Tim had been seated at minutes before.
You sit gently down on one of the wooden seats, the leather cushion peeling at the edges of the old seat. The three men sit around you in the vacant seats, all looking at you intently. The last time you had had people looking at you like this, you were introducing yourself to your new class at school, the teacher had kept pressuring you to talk about yourself, wanting to know all about your hobbies and interests. You take a deep breath in, releasing it slowly out of your mouth, this was the tricky part. What damage would it do if you introduced yourself? Just by being here alone, you had surely broken just about every law of physics! What if by using your real name, that only caused more damage to the world as you knew it? Your breathing was becoming shallow once again, as you look frantically around at the three men before you, your eyes finally resting on Brian’s. You had never been embarrassed to admit this before, but now sitting here with the curly haired brunette, you found yourself blushing, the knowledge that he had starred in many of your late night ‘quiet’ moments, stirring something deep within you. “I’m, um, Eleanor- Eleanor Ribgy!” Perhaps that wasn’t the best name choice, but for the life of you, you couldn’t remember when the song had come out! Maybe it was yet to be released and you would be in the clear?
“Okay, so we all now that that’s a lie.” Tim smirks at you, and you find yourself wanting to slam your head against the table once again.
“How about we try this again, what’s your name? You know ours, it’s only fair we get to know yours.” Roger grins, as he takes a gulp of beer, before placing the glass back on the table with a loud clunk.
Right, well, that didn’t go the way you had hoped. Maybe you should just tell them your name, besides as Shakespeare once wrote, what’s in a name? “It’s Y/N Y/L/N.”
“See, that wasn’t so hard now was it?”
You almost glare at Roger, if only he knew how difficult all of this really was for you, maybe then he would wipe that cocky grin off his face. “You have no idea.” You mutter.
Brian twirls his glass between his large hands, frowning down at the amber liquid that was nearly gone. “Can you explain to us what happened just before?”
“Yeah! What did you mean, you had a poster of me in your bedroom? And who is Queen?” Roger butts in, causing Brian to scowl at him. Brian had been trying to approach this situation carefully, but clearly the blonde drummer had other ideas.
You groan deeply, this time, allowing your head to swing forwards and rest against the table once more. Face planting was becoming a habit of yours in the 1970’s, and you can’t help but think it’s likely not a good thing. “Honestly, I don’t even know what to tell you. It’s all too much, even for me to comprehend!”
“Try us, we’re smarter than we look!” Tim offers with a smile of his own.
Your shoulders slump down, before you pick yourself back up from the table, folding your hands in your lap. “Trust me, I know how smart you all are.” You almost whisper, before shaking your head gently. This was your chance, you could explain this bizarre situation to the men sat before you, perhaps one of them would believe you and help you find your way back? Brian has a doctorate in Astrophysics, surely, he would know what to do? But then again, that is Brian in forty plus years, and not the young man sitting with you now. “This is going to sound insane, I know that.” You begin, the three men leaning in closer to hear you quiet voice. “I woke up in the middle of a fucking field today, no idea where I was or how I got there. And now I find out I’m somehow in the 70’s.”
 Roger scratches his heads, mussing up his already messy locks. “I don’t see the problem? I’ve woken up in a field before, maybe you just had too much to drink last night”
A laugh bursts from your throat, as you shake your head no. “Oh Roger, you don’t understand! The biggest problem with this whole situation isn’t me waking up in a field, it’s the fact that it’s the 70’s!” At this, Roger returns to looking rather confused, just as Brian and Tim do. “When I fell asleep last night, it was 2019. Somehow, I’ve gone back in time forty odd years!” You raise your voice at the end, earning a few confused looks being thrown your way.
“Y/N, look I’m not trying to be rude here, but maybe you’re hungover? I mean, time travel? That isn’t possible!” Brian begins gently, reaching out and placing one of his hands over yours. The gesture sends a jolt of electricity through you, and in any other situation you would swoon, but not right now.
“Brian, I know how crazy this sounds! When I fell asleep last night, I was happily living with my housemate, stressing about work, and looking forward to her bringing me home ice-cream!”
He bites his lower lip for a moment, looking directly into your eyes as he thinks over your predicament. “I’m sorry, I just don’t think it’s possible. I of all people would know if time travel was real, I’m studying to be-“
You cut him off before he can finish, “An astrophysicist. I know, and one day, you will be Doctor Brian May.”
“How do you know what I’m studying?”
At this, you almost wish the ground would open you up and swallow you whole. “Because I’m from the future! I know about all of you Brian, Roger, Tim, even Freddie and Deaky!”
Tim and Roger look between each other with equal looks of curiosity. “Who are Freddie and Deaky?” Roger asks.
Ah right, shit, maybe you shouldn’t have mentioned them just yet. “You’ll know them when you meet them.”
“Wow, that was cryptic.” Tim mutters, causing Roger to chuckle quietly. You shoot them both a glare, neither of them were taking this seriously! At least Brian seemed to be attempting to understand and believe what you were telling them!
“Look, I’ll prove it to you! I know just about everything there is to know about Queen, fuck, I mean Smile. Just, I don’t know, tell me what the exact date is?”
The men look between each other, before Brian shrugs and turns back to you, reciting the date to you. You nod, smiling in thanks as you go back through your mental log of notable Smile era happenings. A spark of recognition flashes behind your eyes, and you leap up from your stool, grinning broadly. “Tim! Today is the day you quit Smile to join Humpy Bong!”
Tim freezes, his hand halfway to bringing his glass to his lips. Brian and Roger and caught between looking at you and Tim. “Tim’s quitting?” Roger mumbles. Oh, okay, so that clearly wasn’t common knowledge yet.
“I- um yeah. They’re going places guys, and we really aren’t, lets be honest.” Tim sighs, drumming his fingers against his glass.
Brian turns to stare at you, a small smile spreading over his lips, you were an absolute scientific anomaly, and he loved it! “Wait, what the fuck are we supposed to do without a singer and bassist?”
You shrug lightly, not sure how much you should give away. But fuck it, you’ve likely already ruined multiple timelines by just being here, you may as well continue. “I believe, this is where Freddie and Deaky come into the picture.”

DAMN ROGER TAYLOR AND HIS PRETTY FACE (PART THREE)
(part one - part two)
Tumblr media
The rest of the night was blurry as you tried to put the pieces back together the following morning. You had woken up to an unfamiliar room. You were alone in a bed. Panic rushed over you as you noticed that you only wore the oversized shirt you were wearing last night. Where were you?
You took a look around you but your peaceful investigation was interrupted by a violent headache. How much did you drink last night? You couldn't remember. You squeezed your eyes shut, letting out a groan because of the pain occuring in your cranium.
You decided to get up and see what the day had reserved for you. Taking deep breaths, you made your way to the door of the room. By the time you put your hand on the handle, your headache had dismissed. You opened the door and were hit by the rays of the sun in your face. What time was it? You shook your head and walked slowly to what seemed to be the kitchen. There was  no one so you made yourself home. You opened cupboards, searching for something to eat for breakfast. You were glad to find a bowl, some milk and cereals. You took all of that and settled it on the table.
You were so mesmerized by the feeling of eating something that you didn't even notice that someone had walked in the room.
“Hello, love. Slept well?” a husky voice said.
You stopped in your eating process to snap your head up. So that was what happened last night... No one else but Roger stood in your vision, leaning against a wall, wearing nothing but a towel around his lower body. Your mouth opened itself without you knowing. His body was very muscular. Your eyes traced his abs before going up to see his face. His hair was a mess, still wet from the shower he just took. And obviously he had a cigarette between his lips. He reached for a lighter on a table next to him before gazing at you.
''I can see what's in your mouth, that's disgusting.''
You quickly shut your mouth before munching your cereals. A smirk curved his lips before he returned his attention to his cigarette, lighting it up.
You swallowed hard before clearing your throat, your eyes being very interested in your bowl now.
“So uh... About what happened last night...” you started.
“Oh you mean, you drooling over me, undressing yourself in front of me in my room and begging me to take you right then and there?” he answered, his smirk never leaving his face as he took a drag of his cigarette.
Christ... that was way worst than what you had excpected. You closed your eyes, biting on your bottom lip as you tried to form a sentence not to make more a fool of yourself.
“Don't worry, love. We didn't do anything,” he stated calmly, cutting short to the worst images that were travelling to your mind.
You snapped your head up, opening your eyes before sighing in relief. “Really? Oh God...what a relief.”
“As the gentleman I am, I only put your shirt back on your body and laid you down on the bed and you were fast asleep just after. So I went to the living room to sleep on the couch,” he continued, ignoring what you just said.
“Well Roger, thank you for not abusing of my drunk state,” you said softly to what he hummed in response.
You ate the rest of your cereals before getting up on your feet and putting the dishes in the sink. You sighed before turning around and looking at the blonde boy across the room. He had opened a window and was looking outside, letting smoke come out of his mouth from time to time.
You lost track of time while looking at him and didn't know how much time you've been staring at him before he turned his head to look at you.
“Like what you see?”
You shook your head, mentally punching you. Why were you so obvious? He only smirked at your reaction, taking a long last hit of his cigarette before throwing it by the window.
“Aren't you going to dress yourself up?” you finally asked, growing shy with him being half naked in front of you.
“As long as you look at me that way, I don't see any good point in dressing up, honey.”
Cocky bastard. You rolled your eyes before walking out of the kitchen but Roger caught your arm, stopping you on your way to his room. He leaned closer to you, dangerously approaching his lips to your ear. “Don't get me wrong, I did want to take you right then and there last night.”
You opened your eyes wide before getting out of his grip, hurrying your way to his room and locking yourself in it, leaving him grinning like hell.
You put your back against his door once inside and took deep breaths, trying to calm your heartbeat. You got in front of a mirror and looked at yourself. “He's just fooling around, he's just playing. Don't get too worked up by the silly things he says,” you told yourself. “You were drunk. You don't want anything to do with a man who treats women like toys.” You paused, hesistant. “Do you..?”
You firmly shook your head, looking away from your reflection. You got yourself together before deciding to dress yourself up.
When you got out of the room, all dressed up, Roger was still by the window. He had made himself some coffee and was sipping on his hot drink while looking at you. He put the cup he had in hand down on the window sill before chuckling. You arched an eyebrow, thinking about what could be so funny about your appearance.
“You've got some vomit on your shirt,” he said, half chuckling, half talking.
You shut your eyes. Oh no, how could you make yourself look more ridiculous now?
“Wait a minute,” the blonde said calmly before making his way to his room. You opened back your eyes and followed his movements with your gaze. He got out of his room with a shirt in his hand. “Here,” he said, throwing it towards you. You catched it and looked confused for a moment.
He looked at you and, seeing your lack of reaction, decided to speak up. “It's a shirt, love.” He smiled. “Put it on and give me yours so I can clean it up for you.” He reached his hand out in your direction.
“And why exactly would you do that?” you asked, still wondering why would he be so nice to you.
“Because you puked on your shirt.” He paused, smiling softly. “And because I think you'd look cute in a shirt of mine.” You blushed at his statement. “Plus, I think that it is short enough so I can see your butt. These shorts you're wearing are...really tight.” His smile turned into a smirk.
Your blush immediately disapeared, replaced by an annoyed look. “Jesus, Rog. I was thinking that what you just said was cute but you're such a perv! You ruined the sweet moment.” you groaned in frustration.
Anyway, just to be the tease you are, you pulled the shirt you were wearing off of yourself in front of him, being left in your bra and shorts. You then put on the shirt Roger had just given you. Roger didn't lose a bit a the show that was going on right before him, looking at your body. He was brought back to reality when you threw your shirt in his face.
“I hope you know how to clean clothes up, I don't want it to become smaller than it is now,” you said crossing your arms over your chest.
That is how you became quite close to Roger. You were hanging out often and were now flirty friends. Of course you always had this little crush of yours on him but didn't want to ruin the friendship blooming between the two of you so you kept it for yourself. He was different with you than with any other girls. He treated you right while others were just here for his entertainment.
He was often coming to the pub you were working at. He sometimes played there and you couldn't help but feel jealous when girls were all over him after his gigs. But anyway, when he was playing his drums and you were pouring glasses behind your counter, you always took a long time to appreciate his features. His way of banging the drums. The way he every so often glanced at the back of the pub, knowing you were there, looking at him. The way he sometimes sent you a wink. What a flirt.
One night, after he told you to meet him outside of the pub to talk with the boys at the end of their show – like he always did – you went outside. You had the authorization of your boss, it was your break time. So, as you usually did, you made your way to the boys outside. As you arrived near their van, you saw Tim leaving their sides, taking with him a luggage. He quickly waved at you before going God knows where. You stopped in front of Roger and Brian, who had a confused look on their faces. They were both sitting at the edge of the back of the van.
“What's the matter?” you softly asked, not quite understanding the situation.
Roger let out a heavy sigh before taking a gulp of the beer he had in hand.
“Tim just left the band,” Brian stated, looking like a lost puppy.
You furrowed your eyebrows, putting a hand on your hip, a million questions coming to your mind.
“He left us for Humpy Bong. What the hell is that? Humpy Bong? Sounds like shit!” Roger let out. You could clearly say that he was flustered.
“What is Humpy Bong?” you asked, quite lost.
“It's another band, apparently,” answered Brian.
You couldn't believe it. Tim left Smile? That was far from being predictable.
“Anyway, we played like shit tonight,” Roger said, lighting a cigarette.
“That's not true!” you intervened. “Tonight's gig was really good, like it always is.”
Brian set his eyes on you, thanking you before smiling sadly.
“Oh come on guys, you won't give up on Smile just because of some dickhead, will you? I mean, I'm sure there are plenty of talented people who are only waiting for you guys to have a vacant place in the band to be a part of it!”
Your attention went to Roger who was looking blank. You got closer to him and cupped his face with both of your hands. His eyes were now on you, looking deep into your soul like they always do. With two fingers you took the corners of lips and lifted them up.
“Don't forget to smile,” you said softly, smiling yourself. Roger mirrored your expression so did Brian. You always managed to make them smile and you were proud about it.
As you were comforting the boys, someone made their way to you three. “Hello,” a man's voice said. You turned around to see a young man standing before you. He had mid-long dark hair and a tan skin. You couldn't help but find that his eyes were really pretty. He was dressed up in all denim and a shirt.
“I enjoyed the show,” he stated, looking at the boys.
They thanked him before they started to talk together. He seemed to know pretty well the band; he knew what they were studying at school and told that he studied arts. Then he started talking about him writing songs. A smile curved your lips as you saw that the three boys were getting along quite well then started singing together. There he was, the new singer of Smile. Unfortunately, he said he didn't play bass. He then left.
Brian and Roger turned their attention to you, smiles going from ear to ear. Roger got up from where is was sitting and got closer to you. He wrapped his arms around your waist and lifted you up, spinning you around. You both giggled as Brian was watching you, amused.
After a short moment, Roger put you back to your feet before cupping your face, his forehead against yours. He was looking at you right in the eye and your heartbeat raced up a little.
“You're my lucky charm, love,” he whispered, grinning.
You reflected his expression, eyes smiling as well. Both of your noses touched and his gaze went from your eyes to your lips. Your heart was pounding in your chest.
That's when his lips collapsed on yours. He was kissing you. He was kissing you and you were kissing him back. But he pulled away quickly, still cupping your face. You were a blushing mess but couldn't be happier. He had kissed you.
After a beat, Roger took a step back and took a drag of his cigarette.
“Let's go and find that bassist, Bri,” he said, turning his head to the guitarist.
Brian nodded, still smiling, and straightened himself before closing the back doors of the van. Roger lifted his head up, eyes on the stary sky of the night before letting out a cloud of smoke from his lips. You stood still, watching him, or we could say admiring him. He put his eyes back on you before throwing his cigarette away. “Let's go find that bassist along with some beers. We've got to celebrate this new start.”
And with that you all three got in the van and Brian drove you all to a pub where you could party.
This night was the beginning of the change for the band but also between you and Roger, but little did you know that this change was nothing you had hoped for.

  DON’T FORGET TO SMILE
In 2018, Smile reunited again and went into London's Abbey Road Studios to revisit “Doing All Right” for the Bohemian Rhapsody soundtrack. It marked the first time in five decades that any Smile recording was officially released. “[Brian] invited me to sing the vocal and dub the bass guitar as I had all those years ago,” Staffell told Lemieux. “It was a hybrid effort -- Brian, Roger, and I all contributed. We didn't reconvene the band. The elements were played at different times and composited in the studio afterward. The challenge was to use modern techniques to create the sound and flavor of 1969, but with the higher fidelity of 2018. I think the guys did a pretty good job.”

‘Queen’ How regal it sounds …
5 April 1970 - Freddie, Brian and Roger were in Roger’s flat and agreed to move forward with their musical aspirations together. They decided to form a new band. The magic of Queen has now begun !
"The concept of Queen was to be regal and majestic. Glamour was part of us, and we wanted to be dandy. We wanted to shock and be outrageous …” Freddie’s words will forever ring loud and true !
“I was first introduced to Freddie — a paradoxically shy yet flamboyant young man—at the side of the stage at one of our early gigs as the group ‘Smile.’ He told me he was excited by how we played, he had some ideas—and he could sing! I'm not sure we took him very seriously, but he did have the air of someone who knew he was right. He was a frail but energised dandy, with seemingly impossible dreams and a wicked twinkle in his eye. A while later we had the opportunity to actually see him sing ... and it was scary!
He was wild and untutored, but massively charismatic. Soon, he began his evolution into a world-class vocal talent, right in front of our eyes !” (Brian May)
Virtually everyone who came into contact with Freddie in the late 60’s tells the same story. Take Chris Smith, a fellow student of Freddie’s at Ealing and early keyboardist for Smile, for instance “Right from the start, before he’d even joined a band, Freddie would say, ‘I’m going to be a star, you know.’ I remember walking into the West Kensington pub in Elsham Road one day and Freddie was there. He had his head in his hands, I asked him, ‘What’s the matter?’ ‘I’m not going to be a star,’ he said, ‘You’ve got to be a star, you’ve told everyone. You can’t let them down now. Come on’,’ I told him. And then he stood up, put his arms in the air and said, ‘𝐈’𝐦 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐠𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐚 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫. 𝐈’𝐦 𝐠𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐚 𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐝!”
Freddie stood out for his exotic looks and budding taste for outlandish fashions. He also possessed a sharp sense of humor and an endearingly campy side, traits that made an immediate impression on May and Taylor upon their first meeting in 1969.
By the early part of 1970, the writing was on the wall for Smile. In an archival interview, Brian said, “We had a lot of successful gigs, we played colleges and we played pubs and small clubs up and down the country. We just never got anywhere. Then in the spring of that year, our lead singer Tim Staffell announced he was joining a new band called Humpy Bong” As if this wasn’t enough, Mercury Records dropped the band afterward.
Freddie Bulsara was then involved with another group called ‘Sour Milk Sea,’ but this venture soon petered out as well.
May told Mojo magazine in 1999, “Tim gave up in disgust and he was within his rights to leave us. ... Roger and I were left with no group. We wondered if we should give up. But then young Freddie Bulsara arrived on the scene.” “He sort of got us and said, 'C'mon on, you can't give up. I want to sing,'” Taylor added.
With Tim Staffell out of Smile, a door opened for Freddie and the opportunity that had been staring everyone in the face for some time …
“I thought up the name Queen early on. It couldn’t have been King, it doesn’t have the same ring or aura as Queen. It was a very regal name and it sounded splendid. It’s strong, very universal, and immediate. It had a lot of visual potential and was open to all sorts of interpretations.
I feel that the name Queen actually fitted that time. It lent itself to a lot of things, like the theatre, and it was grand. It was very pompous, with all kinds of connotations. It meant so much. It wasn’t just one precise label. I was certainly aware of the gay connotations, but that was just one facet of it. Anyway, we always preferred to think of Queen in the regal sense rather than in the queer one. We worried that the name would give people the wrong idea, but knew our music would override the image because we’d concentrate on putting out good product the whole time.”
(Freddie Mercury)
Freddie wanted to be more than a rock star, he wants to become a legend. He has everything at the tips of his fingers, he knows exactly what needs to be done to draw attention on him and the band. First, he created a new stage presence by improving it with dramatic and theatrical elements. Afterwards, he, himself applied an image which he could use in public. Freddie realized the importance that sex sells, he said, “𝗜 𝗱𝗼 𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝗲𝘅 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗹. 𝗜𝘁‘𝘀 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗻 𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗸. 𝗜 𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝘀𝗲𝘅 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗺𝘆 𝗯𝗼𝗱𝘆 𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲.”
Not only did he create the outrageous name, he also designed the band’s famous logo, the Queen-crest, using the birth signs of the members. The Phoenix on the top of the logo represents immortality.
Freddie’s intense drive would clearly help define the band’s style. He also set about completing his own transformation from shy London immigrant to rock star, with a nod to the Roman mythological messenger of the gods, and his ruling planet and his star sign being Virgo henceforth becoming known as “Freddie Mercury.”
Now, the band would not be complete until nearly a year later, 1 March 1971, with the addition of bass player, John Deacon.
And the rest as they say, is history.
These incredibly talented men formed a band that would become one of the greatest of all time!
Their music - timeless - Queen

Chapter 1: Doin’ Alright
Tumblr media
~~~~
I know what I'm doin'
I got a feeling
I should be doin' all right
Doin' all right
Freddie Bulsara walked into the pub that he normally went to with friends. Tonight, there was a band playing, a band called Smile. The band consisted of bass player and lead singer, Tim Staffell, guitarist and singer Brian May, drummer and singer Roger Taylor. Freddie walked up the bar, keeping his gaze on the band.
"What can I get for you?" The bartender asked. Freddie looked at her.
"Pint of lager." He requested. The bartender nodded and got his order. Freddie turned his attention back to the band. He heard the shutter of a camera click and looked towards a woman who had her camera aimed at him. He blinked a little bit to clear the image of the flash out of his mind. He looked at the woman before him. She looked to be about 20 years old. She had [h/l] [h/c] hair. She also wore a short sleeve shirt that was [f/c] and wore some jeans. She smiled at him.
"Sorry about that. I couldn't help but notice that you looked like a natural model." She held out her hand. "[Y/N] May. I study photography here." She said. Freddie nodded and shook her hand.
"Freddie Bulsara. I've seen your work in the halls. They are very good." He praised. [Y/N] smiled and nodded in thanks.
"Thank you. Well, I'll let you get back to what ever it was you were doing. Just wanted to get a photo. Cheers." She said. Freddie nodded looked at her.
"Wait," he called. [Y/N] turned around and looked at him.
"Yes?" She asked.
"You said your last name was May, yes?" He asked. [Y/N] nodded. "You wouldn't happen to be related to one of the players on stage, would you? The last name sounds familiar." He said. [Y/N] smiled.
"I am. My older brother, Brian May," she pointed to a male with black hair down to about his jaw line. "He's the guitarist for the group." She said. Freddie smiled. Seeing that Freddie had gotten the information he wanted, she waved at him and left. Freddie watched as she walked away to a corner of the room. Once there, she knelt down and took some pictures of the band. They didn't seem to mind. Once Tim was done singing, Brian performed a guitar solo. The sound of the guitar and the rhythm of the drums sounded beautiful together. Freddie turned back to the bar tender when she handed him his drink.
"Thank you." He took a drink of the larger while still observing the band. He noticed how the two friends kept the beat of the song, not messing up once. He noticed how Brian's fingers skillfully ran across the strings of the guitar, bringing forth a beautiful melody.
Soon enough, the song ended and the band packed up and met outside.
"Humpy Bong?" Brian asked, appalled. Tim nodded.
"Humpy Bong." He confirmed. "They're going places." He said. Roger scoffed and crossed his arms over his chest, standing next to his best friend. "They're gonna be big." Tim said. Roger frowned.
"Humpy Bong? Are you joking?" Roger asked. Brian shook his head.
"Don't do it, Tim." Brian pleaded. Tim sighed.
"No, I'm sorry, guys, but... we're not going anywhere with this." He said. "What? College gigs, pubs?" He asked. Even Brian had to admit, only doing gigs at local collages and pubs didn't exactly sound like getting to the big leagues. [Y/N] frowned.
"That's pretty much how all big bands start off." She reminded him. Tim rolled his eyes at her and picked up his bass guitar. "Gotta give it a go." He said and walked off. Brian and Roger sighed as Tim walked away. [Y/N] placed a comforting hand on her brother's shoulder, rubbing her thumb across his shoulder.
Meanwhile, Freddie was walking around, trying to find the band. He came across a beautiful woman with reddish orange hair. He stared at her, captivated by her beauty.
"You all right?" She asked, shaking Freddie out of his stupor. He shook his head.
"Sorry. Oh, I was just looking for the band." He said. The woman, Mary, nodded her head towards the back.
"They're usually out back." She said. Freddie gave her a smile before turning around to head to the back. Before he left, he looked at Mary one more time.
"I like your coat." He said, commenting on Mary's tan coat with fur lining. Mary smiled at Freddie.
"It's from Biba." She said, causing Freddie to turn back around and smile at her. The friend that she was talking to smiled.
"She works there." Her friend said. Freddie smiled as Mary turned around to her friend.
"Thank you." She said sarcastically.
Roger lit a cigarette, sitting next to Brian in the back of Roger's van. [Y/N] came back with a beer for Roger and a water for Brian. Brian smiled at his sister.
"Thanks, [Y/N]." He said. Roger nodded in thanks to his friend's sister.
"I think he's right," Roger said, referring to what Tim had said before he left. [Y/N] looked at him as she sat down between the two of them. "That show was a load of bollocks." Roger said before taking a drag from his cigarette. Brian sighed and nodded his head.
"Well, there was room for improvement, yeah." He said. He looked at [Y/N].
"[Y/N], what do you think?" He asked. [Y/N] cringed.
"Eh," She said. Roger chuckled and gestured to her.
"See, even she agrees with me. Besides, I've got better things to do with my Saturday nights. I could give you their names." Roger said, taking another drago of his cigarette. Brian and [Y/N] shook their heads at the male while Roger just chuckled. The three looked up as a man stopped before the three. He had short, black hair and tannish skin. It was obvious that he wasn't originally from London. [Y/N] smiled at him.
"Hello again, Freddie." She said. Freddie smiled at the young woman and nodded his head.
"Hello again, darling," he looked at Roger and Brian. "I enjoyed the show." Freddie said. Roger and Brian nodded in thanks to Freddie.
"Thanks, man." Brian said.
"Thank you." Roger said. Freddie stood there awkwardly. [Y/N] moved her eyes from Freddie to Roger to Brian and back again.
"I've been following you for a while, actually." He said, talking about the band. "Smile. Makes sense for a dental student," he said, gesturing to Roger. He looked at [Y/N]. "And you're photography, even though you aren't apart of the band, you're still the artistic one, aren't you, darling?" Freddie asked. [Y/N] chuckled and looked at her brother.
"Yeah. I guess it does. I was the one who drew the picture on Roger's drums for promoting your band." She said. Brian rolled his eyes.
"Yeah. Before Tim left." He said. Freddie looked at Brian.
"And you're astrophysics, aren't you?" He asked. Brian nodded at this.
"Yeah." He said warily.
"Makes you the clever one." Freddie said, making Brian smile.
"Yeah, I suppose it does, yeah." He said, looking over at Roger and [Y/N]. Freddie smiled a little bit.
"I study design here." Freddie said. Brian raised his eyebrows. [Y/N] smiled at Freddie.
"Oh, yeah?" Brian asked. Freddie nodded.
"Yeah." He said. He reached his hand into the pocket of his coat, pulling out a slip of paper with words on them.
"Also, um, I write songs." Freddie said, handing them out. [Y/N] grabbed her camera and walked away, acting as if she were going to take more pictures of unsuspecting college students. "Might be of interest to you." He retracted his hand in slight embarrassment since no one was reaching for them.  "It's just a bit of fun, really." He said shrugging. Roger's expression fell.
"Well, you're five minutes too late." He said. Brian nodded, his smile falling as well.
"Our lead singer just quit." He said. Freddie's eyebrows quirked up.
"Well, then you'll need someone new." He said. Roger looked at Freddie with slight hope.
"Any ideas?" He asked. Freddie looked like he was going to pose, but decided against it, settling with putting one hand on his hip.
"What about me?" Freddie asked. Roger didn't quite agree as he chuckled.
"Uh, not with those teeth, mate." Roger said, talking about Freddie's very obvious overbite. Freddie looked slightly heart broken and was about to turn away, then, Freddie opened his mouth and the most amazing thing happened.
'I know what I'm doin',' Freddie sang, singing some of the words from the song that they had been singing earlier tonight. Roger and Brian's mouths fell open.
'I got a feeling
I should be doin' all right.' Roger and Brian then joined in the singing, harmonizing with Freddie.
'Doin' all right.' After they finished harmonizing, Brian and Freddie chuckled. There was a flash of light and the clicking of a camera. The three boys turned around and looked at [Y/N]. Brian sighed.
"Really, [Y/N]? Why don't you warn people before you randomly take pictures?" Brian lectured. [Y/N] chuckled, ignoring her brother. Freddie looked down and then at the group.
"I was born with four additional incisors," he said, shocking the group. "More space in my mouth means more range." He said. He placed his hands on his hips sassily as he walked away. "I'll consider your offer." He said. [Y/N] took a picture of Freddie, capturing his confidence in the picture. Brian looked at Freddie's retreating form.
"Uh, do you play bass?" He asked.
"Nope." Freddie said confidently. [Y/N] looked over at the two.
"While I don't personally know anyone," she said, gaining the attention of her brother and friend. "I can help the both of you get the word out." She said.
~~~~~~~
A little while later, [Y/N] was back at the apartment that she shared with Roger and Brian. She was sitting on the couch, looking through some pictures that she had taken that day on her camera.
Tumblr media
She looked at the picture she had taken of Brian, Roger and Freddie. Footsteps coming into the living room caught her attention and she looked up. Brian walked into the room and sat down beside her.
"It's getting late. You should be in bed." He said. He wrapped his arms around her shoulders and kissed her head. [Y/N] hummed and smiled.
"I'm just going through some pictures that I took today." She said. Brian looked at the pictures she was cycling through. She stopped on the picture of the three boys. She stopped and looked up, thinking. Brian frowned.
"Hey, what's on your mind?" He asked. [Y/N] sighed and looked at her brother.
"What do you think of Freddie? As a person and as a singer?" She asked. Brian hummed and looked away in thought.
"Hmm. I think he has an interesting personality. I also think he's got a brilliant voice." He said. [Y/N] hummed and smiled.
"I, honestly think you should consider having him as your lead singer." She said. Brian smiled.
"I'll talk to Rog about it," he kissed her head. "You should go to bed now. Good night, [Y/N]." He said and got up, walking to his room.
"Night Bri." She called after. She sighed and looked down at the picture once more. She then turned off her camera and went to bed.

1.  Roger had always listened to how Brian would gush about soulmates, but in each version of his future vision he was happily married with wife and kids – Roger knew his parents were mostly to blame but he wondered what Brian would do if his soulmate turned out to be a guy, unable to marry him or give him children.
2. It’s not about sex with them – well, no, it was, but that wasn’t why.
3.  Roger glumly watched as Tim walked away, before he took a swig of beer and turned to Brian.
4.  Roger had been acting – off – for a few weeks now, Brian noticed.
5. Roger didn't know whose idea it was to record at some shoddy farm, but he wasn't a fan.
6.  Someone was pounding on Roger's door at 2AM, and if someone wasn't dying, or dead, Roger would make sure they were by the time he was finished with them.
7.  John knew he shouldn't stare.
8.  John had been acting weird the past few days, Roger thought to himself.
9.  A few mornings later, Roger found himself snarking with Deaky over their latest songs, while Freddie was hiding a smirk behind a mug of coffee.
10.  The scene Roger and John walked into was – weird.
11.  “You and Roger are permanently banned from the kitchen,” John told Freddie in a tone that booked no argument.
12.  Months after Tim had left Smile behind for Humpy Bong (and God, once Roger had come down from his funk, they’d shared a good laugh about it), Freddie finally found somewhere he fit, but they were still facing the same old problem; finding a bass player.
13.  Brian felt like a naughty schoolboy, approaching the snoring lump carefully, but he had plans.
14.  Roger had a love-hate relationship with the subject of soulmates.
15.  Roger’s earlier anger had simmered down a bit; Deaky’s track was good, and after Paul finally had fucked off, they had gotten some actual recording done.
16.  The crowd tonight was kind of – listless, for a lack of a better term, and Freddie hated it.
17.  There was a lot of attention missing from home – a lot directed towards disagreements and icy silences.
18.  John was sick and tired of this shit.
19.  Bobby wouldn’t be surprised if there was an actual thundercloud hanging over the mansion.
20.  “Do you always do what you’re told?”

Bass-ic Attraction | 4
Paring: John Deacon x Fem!Reader
Warnings: none
Word Count: 1,769
Summary: When Brian May’s cousin’s family is caught in a car accident and (Y/N) is the only survivor, she moves to London to live with the only family she has left. Little did she know her seemingly bleak, dark life would soon be filled with rock ‘n roll and maybe even a cute bassist.
Master List
Tumblr media
(Y/N) had decided that a quick getaway would be best after Queen had made their retreat from the stage after their set. While Freddie, Roger, and Brian may have been polite enough to resist the temptation to come over to her before the show, they were certainly not above approaching her afterward, especially after Freddie and Brian had noticed how comfortable and cozy they both seemed to get with each other as the set continued. To avoid the awkwardness of John having to meet the band, as soon as Freddie began to say their thanks and goodbyes, the bolted, weaving their way through the crowd until they breathed the cool fresh air of freedom. They were fortunate enough to have avoided the rain that had started to fall shortly before John had entered the pub. The streets were unusually quiet for a Saturday night in Kensington, the pavement glistening elegantly in the soft white glow of the overhead streetlights and the bright, at times almost blinding light from the headlight from the occasional passing car. They walked in a slightly uncomfortable silence, neither feeling as though they were truly comfortable with the other yet despite their effortless conversation earlier, but both wanting to bridge the gap. “So what did you think?” (Y/N) asked distractedly as she balanced herself along the top of a low brick wall, John walking on the ground next to her, hands buried in his pockets as he kicked a stone along the pavement.
“Of the band?” He asked looking up at her, (Y/N) confirming with a low hum. “I wasn’t all that impressed if I’m completely honest. There’s talent in each of them but with your cousin and his two friends constantly fighting for the spotlight and that god awful bassist...ugh...they just had too many odds working against them if you know what I mean…” He spoke truthfully with a sigh of disgust. “I mean no offense since it’s your cousin’s band and all....”
“Don’t worry about it. I think they’re rubbish most of the time too.” She waved him off jumping down from the wall as it came to an end. “Have been for quite a while now.”
“How you mean?”
“Brian and Roger, they used to be in a group together with a really good vocalist and bassist called ‘Smile’. Then one night Tim up and left them for another group called ‘Humpy Bong’...”
“Humpy Bong?” John snickered, trying to contain a hearty laugh. “That has got to be the more ridiculous name I’ve ever heard in my life.”
“I know right?” She laughed. “Anyway, he left them right after a gig. I managed to convince Roger’s, the drummer, flatmate Freddie to sing for them - because lets face it he’s incredible...”
“Without question, his vocals were stellar.”
“It was him who convinced them to keep going and volunteered to be their new front man. Only problem is he’s a pianist, not a bassist. They’ve been trying a few bassists out ever since, this one is their latest edition, his first gig with them too. Though after that performance, can’t say he has much of a future with them. Just need a competent bass player, they do.” She explained with a shrug as they came across a low rail fence which she climbed on top of, taking a few moments to balance before walking again. “But those are few and far in between. They’re determined to make this one work they’ve told me.”
John looked up at her with a raised brow, completely tuning out her saying their group needed a new bassist. In actuality, he was actually looking for a group to play in, as busy as he was between his job at the garage and with Uni classes, he missed playing music. It was apart of him, something that was deeply rooted in his soul. “You sure you should be up there? I don’t want to see you get hurt.”
“Can’t get hurt if I don’t fall.” She smirked cheekily, taking a few steps forward with ease.
“Well, funny thing about gravity is that it tends to pull you down.” He chuckled. “Even when you want to stay up.”
“Ah gravity. Who needs it?” She laughed confidently before her foot slipped, the standing water on the rail sending her tumbling toward the pavement.
(Y/N) fell  toward John who quickly grabbed her as her back fell into his chest to keep her from falling to the cold wet ground. He held her tight into his chest, hands clutching onto her as though she would disappear if he let go, looking down at her with nothing but concern as she steadied herself, looking up at him. They both let out a shaky few breaths as the pair quickly became all too aware of just how close they were to one another, neither daring to pull away though. Something about this closeness they had together, as strange as it was, just felt right. Both of their cheeks flushed every possible shade of crimson before John finally broke the silence. “Gravity heard you mocking it.” He spoke quietly, gazing into her (e/c) orbs. His pupils were slightly blown out in lust at the sight of the streetlights twinkling within the pools to her soul. He was drawn to her, like a moth to a flame. He craved her with every fiver of his being, god did he want to kiss her.
“I guess it did…” (Y/N) spoke just as quietly, getting lost in his swirl of green and grey. She could see the desire in his eyes. She would’ve been lying if she said that she didn’t want him just as badly as he appeared to want her. It was a magnetic attraction between them.
John felt himself subconsciously, slowly leaning in toward her, and if he was correct, he thought he saw her doing the same. Their lips were only but a few centimetres apart before he caught himself, pausing any and all movements before he quickly helped the female back on her feet. John took a few steps back with a nervous cough. “You alright then?” He asked, burying his hands deep into his pockets again as, once again, the pavement became ever more interesting than the beauty before him.
“Yeah...thanks for uh...catching me…” She blushed looking down at her shoes, slightly disappointed that he hadn’t gone through with the kiss. She must’ve read the signs wrong, what would he want with someone like her anyway?
“Can’t have gravity getting the better of you now can I? Otherwise who would be my partner on the project?” He chuckled.
“I’m sure you’d manage. You’re a smart guy.”
“Not as smart as you I bet…” He mumbled to himself.
“What’d you say?”
“Oh nothing, nothing.” John shook the matter off staying put as she began to walk down the street again. “So what’s a girl like you doing studying Electrical Engineering?”
(Y/N) stopped walking, turning to face her term partner with a cheeky smirk on her face, one hand on her hip as she raised an eyebrow at him. “You saying a girl can’t be an electrical engineer?”
John’s eyes went wide as saucers, realizing what he had said, he must've insulted her. “No! No! I didn’t mean it like that! I just meant that girl’s aren’t typically into that kind of stuff, and since you’re so into music it just seemed like that kind of career would’ve been a better fit and I…” John continued to ramble on and on trying to back peddle as best as he could.
(Y/N) laughed softly. “I’m just yanking your chain John, I know what you meant.” She sighed, kicking a stone as they continued walking down the street.
“For fucks sake, stop doing that to me!” John laughed, playfully bumping into her shoulder.
“Hey, a ten week term is a long time, gotta keep it interesting don’t I?” She smirked devilishly at her partner.
“Oh please don’t give me that look. You’re just purposely going to be up to no good now, aren’t you?”
“I’m sorry, would you prefer this look?” She asked, making a funny face at the man next to her. “Or this one?” She asked, making a different face. This proceeded for a few minutes, (Y/N) making different faces at John every few seconds before they were both in tears, their bellies aching with laughter. They received a few stares of confusion from the few passers by around them as they slowly calmed down resuming their stroll down the street.
“God, I haven’t laughed like that in the longest time.” John sighed happily looking over at the small girl next to him as he playfully bumped shoulders with her. “You’re real cool, you know that?”
“I try.” She giggled softly with a shrug, a crimson blush appearing on her face for probably the hundredth time that evening. They walked in a comfortable silence the rest of the way to Brian and (Y/N)’s flat, gently and playfully butting into each other every so often. “Well I guess this is me then…” (Y/N) sighed, actually a bit sad to be leaving her project partner as they came up in front of hers and Brian’s building. As much as she wanted to invite him up for a nightcap, there was no telling if the band would show up at any second and ruin any and all chance she’d have with the electrical engineer.
“Oh well...I guess I’ll see you in class monday then.” John offered her a weak smile, sinking his hands deep into his pockets once again, a tightlipped smile overtaking his features. Part of him wanted to ask if he could go up and keep her company for a bit, but that might’ve been a bit too forward, especially considering that the only reason they had been with each other this night to begin with was to do research fro their project. Of course she wouldn’t want to get with him, who did he think he was fooling anyway?
