This issue was PERFECT. The fam working together? Tommy not being forgotten? Wanda reclaiming confidence, power, responsibility, redemption and motherhood going into her solo series? The boys calling on the fam for support because of course they would? Relevant, character-driven tie-ins to set up the rest of the series?
10/10 🥰😇
And now, the long wait for next week begins, lmao

finally read the hulkling & wiccan infinity comic and this parallel is driving me inSANE it’s such a clear repetition of billy’s insecurities even despite everything him and teddy have been through since then, and agatha said billy was the one who subconsciously created the alternate reality in the infinity comic, so this is clearly a big issue!! an issue i thought was addressed pretty well in young avengers volume 2!!!!!!!! i just want billy to be okay ughhhh
on an unrelated note this design is SO sick, and i mean, so were the characters designs for eidolon and goebig but this specific panel knocked me out holy shit

Like I’ve said I’m not a huge fan of the story but I had to pick them up, happy Hulkling & Wiccan #1 day!
(It was talked about a few days ago but in the back of the issue there is a little ‘stay tuned’ blurb!)

THE YOUNG AVENGERS ARE BACK!
in: MARVEL’S VOICES: YOUNG AVENGERS #5 (a 6 part series!)
Tumblr media
written by Anthony Oliveira and art by Jethro Morales
?,$,&;&:9:! THEY’RE BACK! and this is a marvel unlimited exclusive FOR NOW (at least i’m hoping). hopefully we get a physical release for this just as we did for the wiccan and hulkling comic. anyways, less talking, let me give you more info on the comic!
“The anthology series renowned for its fresh take on “the world outside your window” launches a new, ongoing six-part story! Now available exclusively on the Marvel Unlimited app, MARVEL’S VOICES: YOUNG AVENGERS #5 launches in the exclusive Infinity Comic format. Fans clamored for it, and we’re finally here to deliver: pop culture critic Anthony Oliveira finally puts his pen to the Young Avengers with up-and-coming artist Jethro Morales!”
“We spoke to the writer and artist about their personal Young Avengers fandom, what readers can expect from this all-new arc, and their favorite parts about bringing the super-team back into the forefront!” “Young Avengers has a dedicated fan base who I'm sure are stoked to see the “Young Avengers” name reignited. What can readers expect from this story?”
ANTHONY OLIVEIRA: Events transpire! Protagonists and antagonists clash! Scenes follow, one after another, though not always in order! And we will learn what power cannot do, and what forgiveness can. People are certainly very excited for the Young Avengers to be back, and absolutely no one more than me! But the years since have changed them, I think. These characters have been off on their own adventures for a while, and I wanted to really get to know them again. So for each of the characters we got, I tried to think really hard about the story each of them needs right now, and did my best to give it to them. If you don’t know these heroes this is a great chance to befriend them; if you do, I think it will feel like catching up with an old best friend.
JETHRO MORALES: The fans can expect a lot of heartfelt moments with tons of action and fun in every panel and page throughout the arc. And, as one of the artists, I gave it my all to convey visually all the emotions and excitement masterfully written by Anthony that I hope the fans will appreciate.

Preview from MARVEL’S VOICES: YOUNG AVENGERS INFINITY COMIC #5.
(before i cut to the chase, here’s our writers excitement about wiccan and hulkling!)
Any favorite Young Avengers runs or solo character series that you've appreciated as fans? (Or can recommend for Unlimited readers!)
ANTHONY OLIVEIRA: I have been reading YOUNG AVENGERS since the very first week it came out! I remember in those early days thinking it was impossible that what seemed to be happening with Wiccan and Hulkling was actually happening—queer people like us just weren’t shown in comics or on TV. It was like a miracle.
Tumblr media
Preview from MARVEL’S VOICES: YOUNG AVENGERS INFINITY COMIC #5.
i’ll leave the rest of the article/q&a here!:
Read MARVEL’S VOICES: YOUNG AVENGERS INFINITY COMIC #5 on the Marvel Unlimited app now, and come back each Wednesday for new issues from the six-part arc!
EVERY WEDNESDAY!

So, the Voices: Iceman Infinity Comic wrapped up today, and...I’m really not trying to be a hater, but it’s become pretty clear that this format is just not conducive to good storytelling, and these writers aren’t being given the space or time they need to make it work.
The vertical scroll format demands a decompressed script (less action and information on a page), but these four-to-five issue miniseries demand deeply compressed storytelling (accelerated passage of time, information deposited in high concentration, rapid turnaround on character intros and/or conflict resolution).
It’s a recipe for failure. These stories have to be both slow and fast at the same, simultaneously narrow in focus and wide in scope. They’re published episodically, but those episodes only add up to approximately one standard print issue worth of material. Iceman is four chapters, each with its own conflicts and resolutions, plus newly introduced characters and relationships, but it’s all been squished into the page space of one regular comic.
Tumblr media
In Vecchio’s Iceman, problems are solved too quickly, and new concepts and major changes in our hero’s life are glossed over at a startling pace. A lot of really interesting stuff happens, but characters and conflicts are shuffled off, unceremoniously, almost as quickly as they come up. I was particularly struck by the finale of issue #3. Bobby de-escalates a conflict with Daemond, a new antagonist who wants to steal his ice-powers, by correctly identifying that the young man is desperate and in pain. Bobby sends Daemond to his friend, Christian, for help, but the reader never learns why Daemond was in pain, why he wanted ice powers, specifically, or how Christian was supposed to help. And I wanted to know! I really enjoyed the earlier part of that issue, but I was enormously frustrated by the cramped ending.
Tumblr media
Trujillo’s Hulkling & Wiccan Infinity Comic had the opposite problem. The series meanders through character introductions in a new, alternate timeline while teasing a greater magical mystery, only to abruptly solve said mystery-- and the central emotional conflict-- in the back half of the final issue with no struggle or effort from our heroes. Nothing is gained here, which is just as well because nothing is earned.
Tumblr media
There have been other, more successful Infinity Comics. The recent White Fox miniseries, by Alyssa Wong, worked as well as it did because it stuck to a single setting, and tailored the size and scope of the plot to the limited format. The ongoing X-Men Infinity Comic works precisely because it’s an ongoing-- the episodes don’t have to be cramped because there are more of them.
The majority of Marvel Unlimited’s Infinity lineup is actually made up of supplemental one-shots, character primers, prologues, and non-canon comedy series like It’s Jeff or Marvel Meow. They’re a good fit for this platform because, let’s be honest, this is a subscription-based, alternative platform that’s riddled with technical problems and doesn’t get the same readership as standard comics. If Marvel wants to run stand-alone stories for major characters, especially fan-favorites that are popular with specific demographics, they really need to rethink the format and give their creators more support.

Marvel‘s Voices: Young Avengers #2 Review:
Tumblr media
This issue made me really emotional! I never thought we‘d get to see a story like this, but Teddy had a chance to reunite with his mother again. Teddy‘s mom has always been special in the comics to me because her unconditional love for Teddy formed Teddy into the kind and compassionate ruler he is now. Teddy‘s pain for his mother‘s death was sadly ignored in Young Avengers Volume II to re-hash Billy‘s depression that had been resolved in Children‘s Crusade already but now Teddy‘s feelings are finally center-stage.
Tumblr media
In the newer comics, Teddy’s creation sometimes just felt like he was intended as a bargaining chip for races at war, but hearing that his mom and his biological mom never wanted him to lead this life laid that to rest.
Moreover, we finally see the return of Teddy‘s Hulkling form. Since he accepted his heritage he has become green, which I love, but he‘s not HULKling anymore. In the first Young Avengers and Children‘s Crusade Teddy embraced his super skrull form and I miss that. His powers mostly go ignored since he got Excelsior. I really want to see more of this!!!
Tumblr media
Teddy isn’t alone in this, of course, Billy is there to support him. And since Teddy‘s mom is only there because of a time paradox, we have a nice little callback to The Last Annihilation where she asked Billy to take care of Teddy and now he asks her to do the same for her timeline. Aaaand, she liked Billy so much apparently that she taught him a secret recipe.
Billy also reaffirms their ever-lasting love for each other which is reassuring after the absolute mess that was the Hulkling & Wiccan Infinity comic.
Tumblr media
Billy holding a baby Teddy and bonding with him is weird but also very sweet because you really see how gentle he is and there are also seeds planted for maaaybe some children of their own someday.
Tumblr media
Further seeds are planted for Billy‘s eventual demiurge storyline. I‘m still not fond of it but I trust Oliveira to know what he‘s doing.
I think I don’t have much more to say except thank you with all my heart Mr. Oliveira. We can feel your love for these characters and I hope you‘ll have many more opportunities to write them. But please pay attention to the weird sides of the Demiurge lore.

Some great comics I really dug in 2022
Tumblr media
Here’s a few of my favorite comics of this year in no order
Ducks by Kate Beaton A memoir of a few years working in the oil sands of Canada to pay off student loans. Beaton needs no introduction as one of the best in her craft and this is an incredibly personal story that has stuck with me since I read it.
Vattu by Evan Dahm.  This one is arguably cheating, as Dahm’s been at it since 2010, but this story came to an end this September and I finally did a completed read so it merits inclusion here. His whole world, including his previous comic Rice Boy, has such a phenomenal vision and aesthetic that it’s some of my favorite fantasy stuff out there now.
Shuna’s Journey by Hayao Miyazaki and translated by Alex Dudok de Wit This is decades old at this point but just got an English-language translation. I’m an easy sell on Miyazaki but a really wonderful essay in the New Yorker by Sam Theilman  turned me on to it and is worth a read in its own right. It’s classic Miyazaki — dying world, audacious kid, fuzzy friend, incredible depth — and should not be too hard a sell.
Nancy by Olivia Jaimes Still killing it. I read it every day.  Hulkling & Wiccan Infinity Comic by Josh Trujillo, Jodi Nishijima, and Matt Milla and Love Unlimited by Josh Trujillo and tokitokoro. The first one started last year but finished in 2022, and Marvel gave them a further shot to publish these characters with the new Love Unlimited Infinity comic, which is the Marvel attempt at competing with Webtoon format and truth be told I’m digging it. I got to go on the Pull List and ramble about how much I enjoy these characters and this take on them. Great stuff.  Mr. Boop by Alec Robbins I really just love that this book actually exists.
Solver by John Allison I love Allison’s work, Bad Machinery is one of my favorite webcomics. I regretted that it was only just this year that I got around to buying all of and plowing through all of Giant Days, which was phenomenal stuff. Solver has been a followup to Bad Machinery following Allison’s best character, and I’ve enjoyed remaining in his world with a changed up pace and vibe. He’s really at the top of his game.  Two Losers from Earth by kit_is_mad Still ongoing, a Webtoon, started last year but hit its stride this year. Can’t wait to see where it goes and it looks gorgeous. High concept, just love this vibe, is also gay. Really liking this one.

The list you’re using is pretty dang comprehensive, I love it! It even has pretty extensive Kid Loki information! It looks like it only goes up to 2020, though! I don’t know exactly everywhere everyone else can be found after 2020, but I have some additions! For Kate there’s Hawkeye: Kate Bishop (2021), for Noh-Varr he’s in Guardians of the Galaxy (2020) (which I recommend even if you don’t care about Noh-Varr, like just on its own merit), Billy and Teddy are in Marvel’s Voices: Pride, and the Hulkling & Wiccan Infinity Comic and according to the Marvel Wiki they’re also in #25-30 of the Love Unlimited Infinity Comic (side note the Wiki could be useful to use for finding individual one off appearances!), America’s (unfortunately) got America Chavez: Made in the USA, Thunderbolts, and Defenders: Beyond, Prodigy/David was a main character in X-Factor (2020) but also since he was returned to the X-Men sphere with the invention of Krakoa he pops up in appearances in a number of other X titles so if you’re interested in that I’d look for some kind of list or check his appearances on the Wiki for which issues (also I just wanna say I love Prodigy?? If you’re at all interested in reading anything else with Prodigy from before he joins the Young Avengers, he debuts in New Mutants (2003) and his “generation” take center stage in New X-Men (2003), I love the kids in his X-Men “generation” and could not express how much I feel they are worth getting to know even though they’ve sadly been sidelined in more recent years as more and more X teens and young adults have been introduced and spotlighted— sorry I have too many feelings about this), Eli shows up in Black Panther (2018?) #23-25 (I checked the wiki because i thought i remembered something about this, not sure how significant his role is), and Tommy shows up in X-Factor (2020) #7 and #10, then he and Billy also were in X-Men: The Trial of Magneto, Who Is… The Scarlet Witch Infinity Comic, and Marvel’s Voices Infinity Comic #9! Wow that was long, sorry! I’m probably missing stuff but I hope I hit the important ones!
Oh wow thank you! I’m probably gonna like make a google slides or something to track the comics for the characters 🤔

I hope you're going to post the new wiccan/hulkling comic coming this week
I'm sorry anon, I wish I could but won't be able to any time soon 😔 Alas, work is eating up every ounce of my energy and burning me out, I let my Unlimited subscription lapse for now since I don't have enough free time to get my money's worth out of it, AND my laptop is breathing its dying breathe and I can't get something that big posted purely on mobile 😔
Like the America and Loki infinity comic, I hope to get it posted eventually when passion for superhero comics strikes me again (and when I get around to buying either a new laptop or at least a new laptop battery), but there's a strong, strong emphasis on "eventually". Like, if it happens within the next 6 months I'd be shocked level eventually

The preview for the Pride special came out and it doesn't look like Tommy will be in it but...plot maybe?? It might actually be a Continuing Arc? Billy and Teddy go to America hoping she can help them find Loki. This past week they printed the Wiccan & Hulkling Infinity comic where Billy not only casually pulls a House of M but...he also appears to create fully fleshed out people (his and Teddy's new partners) and they're REAL. Which is something Wanda was never able to do. And it's also something Loki had warned Billy and Teddy about back in Young Avengers...is it possible they're seeking out Loki for help with Billy's magic ?
Actually it sounds more like Loki is in danger since teddy said he is asking for her help because she's a young avenger and so is Loki. The look he gave her and her reaction screams Loki is the one in danger.
It's kinda sweet that Billy and Teddy consider Loki a young avenger even after what he did.I know I said previously that I don't like how they care about him but I changed my mind in away I kinda understand.
Glad tommy is not gonna be the damsel in distress this time around.
also just because tommy and devid isn't in the preview doesn't mean they're not in it,because it sounds like they might go and get them after America plus it's just a one page. poor Tommy have no idea who the fuck is Loki and now he has to go rescue him.
Billy's and teddy's alternative universe boyfriends seems very harmless so I doubt they actually have anything to do with this. All thought the story is called "My exes in the nuxus" so I might be wrong. Unless the exes are just Loki's this time around.
