I highly recommend Huesera: The Bone Woman to any feminist horror fans out there! I was shocked by how visceral and relatable it was. I won't spoil too much, but this is the first feature film of the director, Michelle Garza Cervera, and I'm so excited to see what she does next.

i was wondering if she’d realize she wasn’t made for motherhood, or if she’d just die proving it. i don’t think she got institutionalized in the end, but i do think she chose octavia in the end. sometimes womanhood be its own demon 😭

so anyway huesera is a movie about a pregnant married woman facing the horrors of society’s expectations put on you that run so deeply you don’t even remember if you really wanted to reach them in the first place, and also the horrors of encountering a faceless woman who secretly lives in your house

So, you know how sometimes people (me, I'm talking about me, I do this) used "tired" or some expression of "tired" as a socially acceptable euphemism for "crappy, but I don't want to get into it"? Like, feeling depressed and someone asks how you're doing? Tired! Have kind of a headache? Tired! "Tired" is a universal feeling that is relatable whether it's physical, mental, and/or emotional. Anyone can sympathize with tiredness.
Thus, when I rolled at 7:15am to the event I was working at today and my booth neighbors asked how I was, I was like "oh, you know, it's early for a Saturday, but I'm here" they were just like "you must not do many farmer's markets lol". And like. Correct. But also, I intended my expression of Socially Acceptable Euphemistic Tiredness to say "my period started last night because that's what happens when I have something planned on a weekend, and timing-wise, I am on the worst day of it, so currently I'm bloated, my back hurts, all of my joints hurt, I have varied gastrointestinal upset, I have a headache, my boobs hurt, and I have to make polite art sale talk with people all day" but apparently that didn't come across.
Also, I had to make polite art sale talk only occasionally, because hardly anyone came to this fucking event, because it was the same day as our local Pride festival, which I didn't know when I applied to do a thing, so I also didn't see anyone I knew (because they were at Pride) and I didn't get to go to Pride. And I hardly made any money. Why is this my job. I've spent 10 years missing out on everything and sitting alone in an art tent.
Anyway! Not to be all melancholy, I just haven't had any weed because I have to pickup my housemate from work later and my back is fucking killing me and I had a very long, moderately crappy, and not very queer day.
This is all very whiny, please ignore it.
Huesera: The Bone Woman (2022)
The real horror is having family members that immediately go for your deepest insecurities because they think it's funny and if you react then you're the sensitive one.
