Hot take: Mama Odie is Alastor's great great great something grandmother on his mother's side.
(Headcanoning that she's just ancient and when Alastor knew her as a child she didn't look too different to how she does when she meets Tiana in the late 1920s. Maybe five fewer wrinkles.)

Lil bit of a redesign for my COTT OC Nick.
He's a very well behaved, dorky kid in school, but a total edgelord when fighting the heroes. Very OP. Everyone's first Gary Stu oc!
I imagine in episode one of a hypothetical season three, Odie has grown frustrated with the fact that he can't really relate to the other heroes due to him operating on another level of intellect. And when a certain someone manages to answer questions quicker than him in class, his instinct is to befriend and spend time with him.
Little does he know that his new buddy is working for Cronus and plans to be his downfall.
Tumblr media
Been considering renaming him Hector and having him be a descendant of Hecate? Since that makes more sense for the show? Gah but I'm emotionally attached to the name Nick he's just Nick for me. And the pun "The Nick of Time" as an introductory episode name is also too good.

Hazbin Hotel crew watching Disney Princess And The Frog headcanons:
Lucifer cries the most during Ray's death scene
Cherri doesn't cry, but she's the most impacted by said scene, especially when you see the 2 stars together (Ray and Evangeline)
Vaggie ships Tiana and Charlotte (she's not self projecting, not at all/j)
Alastor's favourite character isn't Facilier
Don't get me wrong he kins him
And "Friends On The Other Side" is his favourite song (he forces Husk to recreate it with him)
But his favourite character is Eudora (Tiana's mother)
His second favourite is Mama Odie
Lucifer teared up when watching the scene where Tiana talks about her dad (when she breaks the pendant? Charm? Idk the correct term here)
And every other scene that featured Tiana's dad
Y'all know Nifty's favourite scene is "Almost There"
Angel never noticed, but Husk was smiling at him during the scene where Naveen practices his proposal to Tiana
Angel Dust got into an argument with Alastor regarding Tiana's wedding dress (Angel prefers the frog wedding dress, Al prefers the church wedding dress)
Vaggie notices how similar the movie setting is to Alastor's bedroom, she doesn't comment about it
Charlie wants to do a Mardi Gras in hell
She also wants beignets
She may or may not have convinced Alastor to make her some
The gumbo though? He made it out of his own will
Lucifer loved the gumbo, and the beignets, but he would obviously never admit it
Alastor was playing the soundtrack on loop on the radio, because Charlie requested, and because it pisses off Vox
Alastor also watched it later with Rosie, they were talking about creole cuisine and which meat would go best in each dish
Rosie is a romantic soul, and she adored the movie
She would never tell Alastor, but she also prefers the frog wedding dress
She definitely noticed the similarities between Charlotia and Chaggie, but she also enjoys Tiana and Naveen's romance
She dances along with Alastor to the soundtrack
She would definitely ask Alastor questions about New Orleans, the culture, the scenery, and the food
Her favourite characters are Naveen's parents

CHAVTF - Smart casual
Michael and Charles were sent shopping. The dress code for the dinner was explicitly "sporty-casual". Just like for the boat tour yesterday evening. Their understanding of casual was a summery three-piece suit with an open shirt. The colleagues with whom they were teambuilding understood it to mean jeans and a T-shirt.
Tumblr media
If their boss hadn't insisted that the two of them wear something else, they would have come in a suit again tonight. So after the last group meeting, the two had to run off and find something to wear. Both agreed that jeans and a T-shirt were not their style and that they would only need the clothes for this one evening. So spending too much money seemed unnecessary. Google showed a store near their hotel called CHAVTF with good reviews. That's where the two headed. The first impression was immediately repulsive. The store attendant was wearing army pants with combat boots and a worn-out tank top. But the two didn't have time to look for anything else. They now had to buy something for tonight in fifteen minutes.
Oi mates, the clerk greeted them. Are ya lookin' for somethin' in particular? Michael said they were going on a pub tour today and needed something suitable.
"Sure, mates! Me fuckin' name is like jack. Trust me, us'll find just the reel thin'. Dee ya also go to normal pubs? Or are ya strictly gay on the road?"
Michael said he wasn't sure. But probably mostly gay.
"Cool, that'll get ya undressed, i'll brin' ya somethin'."
Michael gave Charles a kiss and a slap on his butt and the two stripped in the open locker room.
Jack asked if they preferred jockstraps or boxers. "Jockstrap," Michael replied. "Fuckin' nothin'" replied Charles. Jack laughed, tossed them both some soccer socks and handed Michael a jockstrap.
"Cool haircuts ya got ther, mates. Is like the rest of ya 'ody anarl shorn as ya neck?" Michael laughed, holding his arms behind his head and showing off the bush under his armpits. "Nit canny, mate" Jack laughed again and came up with a pair of leather jeans for Charles and a pair of bleached jeans for Michael.
"Ya guys train hard for ya 'odies, or is like workin' on the docks enough to get a 'ody like that?"
"Nah, mate! just haulin' loads ain't enough. It takes regular 'oxin' trainin' to get an arse n' a six pack like that"
"Sure, i get it! all that 'eer in the evenin' needs to be worked off too, after all."
Mike and Chuck stroked each other's board-hard washboard bellies and French-kissed deeply.
"Hey, the place isn't closed yet. Ne way sex while i still havta work!"
Chuck grabbed Jack's crotch and told him to lock the door quickly then. He wouldn't be able to hold back much longer.
Jack tossed them both T-shirts, locked the door, and returned with a pair of DocMartens for Mike and a pair of combat boots for Chuck. And while the two of them got down on their knees to lace up the shoes, Jack got his dick out of his pants. Mike and Chuck promptly responded and began sucking Jack's balls.
"Hehehe, this like isn't the first time ya two hav done this like, huh? Dee ya guys always work together as hustlers? Or 'an ya be 'ooked separately?"
"Sure ya 'an get us separately" replied chuck. "But the other one watches n' jerks off" Mike added n' started suckin' jack's cock.
"Fuck, ya guys are mint! Why are ya still workin' on the docks anyway. As hustlers ya must be earnin' yourselves silly."
"Mate, us're just gay too. Just 'an't handle money. What us earn, us drink or gamble away."
And Mike added that cigarettes are not free. Whether he would get at least one for the blowjob.
Tumblr media
Mike and Chuck were satisfied. Jack was always generous when they needed new clothes. And as a rule, he also found them good customers. In the hotel diagonally across the street there was such a nerd event. Some of the snobby guys would surely spend dough for a night with the two of them.

soobin who comes back from tour, super tired and wants nothing more than to hold you :( he really really really wants to tell you about all the cities he visited, the mischievous things the maknaes got up to, that one screaming MOA with the odi poster, and how yeonjun lost his phone 3 times in one day in new york, but he just falls asleep halfway through his rambling :( wakes up all confused, thinking he was still on tour and that seeing you in his arms was a dream, but bleary sleepy eyes turning wide and bright once he realizes you are, in fact, in his arms again :((
anon u rly know how to get me in my feels omfg
soobin would drop his things off at the dorm and immediately bail to go to your place. stumbling through the door of your apartment long after the sun has dipped below the horizon, his one and only goal is to find you and crush you in a hug :( he's been texting you all day, leg shaking as he traveled, just wanting to see you, to be able to hold you tight and melt into the comfort of your arms :(((( he hears the pitter patter of socked feet against the floor before a body collides with his back, arms wrapping around his torso...he can feel a smile pull at his lips as he locks the door before he's turning in your embrace and burying his face into the crown of your head <3
it's so cute, how he pulls you into bed, holding you close to his chest as he tells you how he missed you so much, telling you tour stories with slurred, exhausted words. you tell him that the two of you should sleep, but he'd adamant on staying up with you and updating you on anything and everything that happened throughout the tour. he falls asleep halfway through his sentences, only to wake up and finish them; the sight makes you giggle, and he eventually drifts off to sleep. pressing your lips to his forehead, you follow suit soon after
he wakes up and he thinks that last night had to have been a dream :( baby feels like crying because he's half asleep and he thinks he's in his hotel room back in la still...until a little hum reaches his ears, and the warm weight against his chest registers in his brain. his eyes shoot open and there you are, cuddled against his chest, looking like an absolute angel — and suddenly everything feels right in world. he's home, you're here, and nothing can beat the feeling of your soft skin beneath his fingers and your lips against his as you sleepily kiss each other awake <33333

— CHERRY BLOSSOMS & 7/11 ☆ CSB
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
summary: soobin is on a break from tour, so you both escape to japan for a few days.
pairing: idol!soobin x gn!reader
genre: fluff
word count: 1.6k
warnings: ehhh none. they are just tooth numbingly sweet.
authors note: can you tell that I’m reeeeeally pushing the soobin sweetheart boyfriend agenda lol. this was kind of inspired by his japan vlog, and I added my own twist with some of my own knowledge of Japan. this reminded me that my Japanese isn’t going to study itself, and soobin if you see this and think you’re slacking, I’m probably slacking harder.
quick links: masterlist | taglist | send a request
“I think I’m going to do some things on my iPad. Maybe draw.” You spoke, reaching for your bag that you set onto the floor.
“I might read.” Soobin answered. “I bought a new book a few days ago to read on this flight.”
Soobin was on a break from tour right now, and you both decided it was a perfect time to take a trip to Japan for a few days for some alone time.
The flight wasn’t very long; only two and a half hours. It was roughly an hour in, both you and Soobin keeping yourselves occupied. you were listening to music and doodling on your iPad while soobin was reading his book.
You drew a cute little doodle of Soobin’s hedgehog, Odi as well as a bunny with a carrot. Smiling to yourself at how cute it was, you turned to show Soobin, but realized that he was fast asleep.
His arms were crossed in his lap and his head tilted to the side. You always thought it was cute how his nose sometimes whistled when he was asleep.
“Soob.” You quietly spoke, picking up his book and bookmarking the spot he left off on.
He hummed without opening his eyes, and shifted in the seat.
“You almost lost your spot in your book.” That made him open his eyes, and pick it up.
“I got so tired all of a sudden.” Soobin laughed at himself. “I didn’t sleep good last night. I was too excited.”
“I don’t think I’ve ever slept on a plane.” You answered. “It’s hard for me to get comfortable.”
Soobin tousled his blonde hair, fixing his glasses on the bridge of his nose. He leaned over to look at your iPad. “What are you drawing?”
“Just random things. Look I was going to show you this, but you were asleep.” You pointed to the doodles of Odi and the little bunny.
Soobin’s smile was so big. “Aw, you drew my Odi! I miss him.”
He swiped through your other drawings. One of a plant, two cats, but then he stopped on one that was a cartoonish drawing of a boy with blonde hair.
“Is that supposed to be me?” Soobin questioned.
“Yes.” You responded, smirking. “You weren’t supposed to see that one.”
Soobin was smiling. “No no no it’s cute. You’re cute.” He kissed your temple, making you giggle.
It wasn’t long after that, the plane arrived, and you both got off, and found your bags.
“Should we get a taxi or take the train?” Soobin asked you as you walked away from baggage claim.
“A taxi will be too expensive from the airport. we can just buy train tickets.” You answered, making him nod; his blonde hair bouncing as he did so.
“Plus, it will give you a chance to practice your Japanese.”
A blush formed on Soobin’s cheeks. “Hey, don’t do that to me. That makes me so nervous.”
“Soobin, you are a lot better at Japanese than you claim you are. I’ve seen your notebook.” You we’re right, Soobin was pretty good at learning Japanese. He always carried his flash cards with him, and you helped him study any chance you got.
You both bought your train tickets, and within an hour or so, you finally arrived at your hotel room.
The second you both walked into the room, you immediately took off your shoes and coats, and relaxed onto the bed.
You moved closer to Soobin, nuzzling into him; making him giggle. “Are you tired?”
You nodded, and Soobins hands smoothed over your hair. “We can take a nap if you want. We’ll just have a chill night tonight while we plan the next couple of days.”
“Okay.” You answered, your eyes already closed as Soobin pulled you closer to him. At this point he was becoming your human body pillow. Soobin always smelled so good; like a mix of vanilla and fresh laundry. Pretty soon you were both fast asleep.
Within about two hours later, you both woke back up. You took a shower while Soobin watched an anime on the television, and then once you were finished; Soobin took a shower. Soobin took longer showers, so by the time he was out, your hair was already blowdried and you were in your hotel robe sitting on the bed doing your make up.
“You don’t need makeup.” Soobin spoke cutely to you. You looked up at him, he was wearing nothing but a pair of grey sweatpants while drying off his damp hair with a crisp white towel. “You always look nice.”
“Soob, you don’t have to say that. I just like to wear some of it.” He sat near you on the bed, picking up some of your products and examining them.
“This is cute.” He had a peachy toned eyeshadow palette in his hand.
“I’ll wear it.” You smiled at him watching you. “I’m almost done, then I just have to get dressed.”
Soobin was still looking at your makeup products, then looked at his phone for the time. “It’s like 7pm. If you want we could just walk around and go to the convenience store.”
“Yeah, that’s fine.” You answered, putting your makeup away.
“There’s a 7-11 like ten minutes away that we can walk to.”
You stood up from the bed to get dressed. “I’m gonna change. What are you wearing?”
Soobin looked up from his phone at you. “Im just going to wear these.” He rubbed his sweat-pant clad thighs. “And like a hoodie or something. Don’t forget about a coat, it’s cold outside.”
You smiled at him before going through your suitcase to find clothes. “Soobin, I know.”
You threw on a simple outfit of some jeans and a sweatshirt.
You both were standing in front of the mirror, and you spritzed some perfume on.
“We look cute.” Soobin spoke, looking at you through the mirror.
You smiled. “I know, I want to kiss you all over.”You turned to face him, standing on your toes to kiss him. “You ready to go?”
Soobin nodded, his fluffy hair bouncing. “Let me get my scarf and my bag.”
Soobin grabbed his bag before wrapping his scarf around his neck, then both of you headed out of the hotel and onto the street.
“The 7-11 is this way.” Soobin spoke, grabbing your hand and starting to walk in that direction. You had to admit that Soobin looked so cute all bundled up in the cold.
“The streets look so cool.” You spoke out loud to yourself, looking around.
“I know. It has a Japan vibe.” Soobin answered.
“Soobin, that’s where we are!” You laughed, making him smile.
“Oh, you know what I mean.” He couldn’t help but laugh at himself too.
You eventually came to an intersection, and stopped for the okay to cross the street.
You were standing next to Soobin, still holding his hand, and felt a chill.
“I’m kind of cold.” You said quietly.
Soobin looked down at you. “Your coats not even zipped all of the way!” He let go of your hand, zipping your coat up. “No wonder you’re cold.”
You eventually crossed the street, and entered the 7-11 shortly after. Soobin opened the door for you and let you walk in ahead of him.
“Do you want ramen?” Soobin asked you.
“Ooh yes please.” You answered, making him smile. “I want natto too.”
You found the ramen section, picking out flavors that you think you’d enjoy.
Both of you strayed off on your own for a little bit, but eventually Soobin found you with some things in your hands.
“Did you find anything good?” He held out his hand basket to you to put your things in.
“Yes!” The excitement was prevalent in your voice. “cheddar aerial chips, natto, and some hand rolls.” You placed each item in the basket as you named it.
“Those chips sound good.” Soobin added.
“Oh my gosh I could eat the whole bag. Which I’ve definitely done before. I can’t ever find them at home.” You noticed he had picked out a few things. “What do you have?”
“I know you like the pocari sweat in the can.” He pointed to it in his basket. “and I found apple hi chews.” He had about eight sticks of them.
You laughed. “Soob, I know that’s your favorite flavor but I hope you left some for somebody else.”
He laughed, smiling. “Hey, I did.”
You guys soon checked out your items, and went to sit down in front of the window to enjoy your snacks.
“I kind of panicked when she asked if I wanted a bag or not” Soobin said as he sat down next to you.
“But you did great.” You opened up your hand roll, wrapping the nori seaweed around it. “Want a bite?”
Soobin nodded, leaning in to take a bite.
“It’s good.” He grabbed the two bowls of ramen. “I’ll go put hot water in these.”
He came back, setting both bowls down for the noodles to soften. You opened your can of pocari sweat, taking a sip.
“It’s just superior in the can.” You commented, making Soobin laugh.
“So what do you want to do tomorrow?” You asked Soobin, opening up your styrofoam container of natto.
“I want to find a bookstore hopefully, and maybe we can go to the countryside. like maybe shirakawa.” Soobin answered.
“Yeah we can do that. I wanted to see the cherry blossoms. I think they should have bloomed in some places. I know it’s kind of touristy and it will probably be so busy, but we can take some cute pictures.”
Soobin peeled the lid off of his ramen. “Yeah, probably, but we can figure it out.”
“Yeah, I’m so excited for these next few days.”

Alastor's Whitewashing And Appropriation (Hazbin Hotel Discourse)
Now that Hazbin Hotel is entering mainstream consciousness, it's a good opportunity to bring attention towards some issues that need addressing.
Indie queer productions have an unfortunate trend of propagating racism, sexism, transphobia, ableism, etc. That's nothing new, and we all have to come to terms with it. A good way to do that? Just get the conversation going. Put the word out there that, 'hey, I have sincere complaints about ___.'
Alastor is, without a doubt, one of the most popular characters of the main cast. We can celebrate the victory of Alastor being a beloved canonical aroace character, while also criticizing his flaws.
Mainly - his race, his cultural appropriation, and his strong link towards racialized violence.
(1) Alastor is canonically mixed race Creole. His skin is medium-toned, but fanartists are sometimes drawing him as light-toned.
Tumblr media
Although we don't know his full ethnic makeup, Alastor is canonically portrayed with a darker skintone than some fanartists choose to depict him as, whether in his current demon form, or a fanon-popularized mortal form.
'Creole' isn't a race, it's an ethnicity, and Creole people can have any array of complexions. But that doesn't excuse the trend of literally bleaching his canonical skin hue.
Tumblr media
As many people have pointed out, it'd make a lot of sense if Alastor was specifically mixed black, thanks to his association with voodoo, and also according to Depression-era racial census of New Orleans. We know that mixed race black people can look like Pete Wentz, Vin Diesel, and Wentworth Miller. Him being relatively pale, with a pointy nose and straight hair, it wouldn't contradict a black identity.
Tumblr media
In the show proper, there's been a wild array of lighting effects, and they also put a shallow gradient burn over the bottom half of the screen at most times, which can complicate accurate skintone shade picking. But you can clearly see that Alastor is darker than many other characters, and is more similar to characters voiced by people of color - Niffty, Vaggie, Carmilla. In fact, his skincolor value is on par with Vaggie's, just with more saturation, giving it the illusion that it's brighter.
(2) Haitian Voudo/Louisiana Voodoo is a closed and heavily marginalized practice. Cannibalism and violence have been long-standing smear campaigns made against it.
A 'closed practice' means that you need to be initiated into it, not just choose to practice it. New Orleans Voodoo has been couched in political prosecution since its inception, and continues to be marginalized. According to the historian Carolyn Morrow Long, "Voodoo, as an organized religion, had been thoroughly suppressed by the legal system, public opinion, and Christianity." Because of its association with free black people (and the country of Haiti), you can imagine the hate crimes it's faced for decades.
Some of its most infamous fearmongering included reports of human sacrifices, cannibalism, and animalistic orgies. "{...} the Westerns’ view on Vodou was proof that the “black republic ‘’ cannot claim to be civilized."
So of course, a mixed-race cannibalistic serial killer using 'evil' magic couched in floating vevè symbols can leave a bad taste in the mouth. Just because the symbols are accurate ones doesn't mean the misappropriation isn't there.
Tumblr media
It has never been blatantly stated that Alastor is a Voodoo practitioner, or has any real history in Louisiana Voodoo, aside from in the pilot where Charlie briefly says the word 'voodoo' in reference to Alastor's magic. But the inclusion of actual vevè symbols is a solid enough connection. And it's an unfortunate one.
Compare with Disney's Princess And The Frog, where the directors made an effort to include Mama Odie as a more accurate depiction of a manbo, while the antagonist Dr. Facilier is hinted as not being able to practice real voodoo at all. There are more delicate and considerate ways to approach Alastor's association with Hollywood 'voodoo', and hopefully, we will get to see them as the show goes on.
(3) Wendigos are specifically from Algonquin folklore. Many pop culture interpretations of Wendigos are inappropriately abstracted from its cultural context.
Canonically, Alastor's demon form resembles a deer because he was mistaken for a deer by a hunter, and shot square in the forehead. We've seen him let out elk bugle sounds, and also his antlers growing in conjunction with his power. When he puts his game face on, his entire body gets spindly, his teeth grow sharper and longer, his hands turn into huge claws, and he sometimes eats his victims alive.
Tumblr media
This, of course, is making some viewers ring comparisons to 'wendios', thanks to Alastor's large appetite and preference for human flesh.
Similar to his 'voodoo' connection, the show has never gone on record to say Alastor is supposed to be a Wendigo, or that his history and appearance was meant to invoke a Wendigo. The connection here is a bit weaker than his Hollywood voodoo, and it's mostly an audience reaction that I find questionable.
For those who don't know, a Wendigo is specifically from Algonquian folklore. a malevolent spirit who eats people and is never sated. English-speaking audiences owe their awareness of Wendigos to Stephen King, The X-Files, Supernatural, Until Dawn, and more. Very few of these depictions were respectful towards indigenous culture. Most of the time, 'wendigos' have been almost entirely divorced from its indigenous American contexts.
It's a classic example of appropriation. They take some cultural facet from a marginalized people, do minimal research, and depict it with little owe towards its creators. That's insulting no matter who you are. It's a form of violence when the culture is a persecuted one.
A character can be a skinny deer demon that eats people without trying to cash in on the whole 'wendigo' thing. This might be what Alastor is supposed to be, but the audience is using the word 'wendigo' inappropriately.
So. In one single character, we've got the whitewashing, the Voodoo and Wendigo appropriation, the anti-Blackness, and an overall racism.
It's no surprise that Alastor remains one of the most divisive characters of the show.
This would be like, if Niffty (voiced by Japanese-American Kimiko Glenn) kept being drawn as a pale woman with bulbous blue eyes, had weird radioactive atomic powers thanks to her method of death back in the '40's, and was obsessed with spearing people through their stomach with long blades. It's not super great.
So far, Hazbin Hotel's canon material has avoided many of the overtly bigoted humor and hijinks so common in adult TV, and that's something of a victory. But what's not problematic doesn't cancel out what is.
The more a reasonable criticism is circulated amongst its audience, the more driven the creative team is to pay attention.

@thealmightyemprex @makingboneboy @professorlehnsherr-almashy @princesssarisa
So last night I watched Super Eyepatch Wolf video essay 'What the Internet Did to Garfield', which analizes transformative fan art made on the Internet, that transformed the gag comic strip into more dark scenarios focused on a portrayal of Garfield as an eldritch entity that drags the anxious and depressed Jon Arbuckle into a neverending cycle of abuse and torment from which not even death can save him.
The video essay itself is more analytical of why the proccess of making this transformative works happen, and what is their appeal, and how the maker of the video saw itself in Jon Arbuckle in both the strips and the transformative artwork, which is good, but my problem is with the transformative art works itselfs: how they can be so lost in imitation, and so focused in one aspect of the Garfield stories that they loose grasp in other aspects.
You know how when works about making fairy tales dark or cynical like Into the Woods and Shrek came out, and they were very good, but then a wave of writers and filmakers tried to imitate to the point of saturation, we started to notice how superficial their understanding of fairy tales was to properly make deconstructions or parodies, and then you just wanted a return to the wholesome fairy tale content with happy endings again?
So, that is what happened in most Garfield fan works on the internet:
Somebody saw one aspect of the stories (Jon's loneliness and sadness while Garfield failed to properly show empathy), made some fan works about it, and then everybody started to make fan works on this grimm dark line.
And I get it: with the gag comic strip that goes on for 40 years, following a basic formula of character writing, with some subtle changes to the status quo, can give this more sad view of characters living in the formula structure without changing (just look at audiences reaction to Marge and Homer's relationship problems in 34 years of The Simpsons).
But the thing is: the gag comic strip is not the only place where the story was told.
The animated series Garfield and Friends and their specials are another, if not more important part, to consider in the portrayal of the characters.
There, the characters could be allowed to be more complex, not restriced by formula.
So you saw narratives about:
Jon getting to save Garfield from his own imagination;
Jon and Garfield travelling to a cheap hotel in a Pacific Island, and slowly enjoying themselves despite all the trials and tribulations;
Jon taking Garfield and Odie camping, the cat initially complaining, but eventually getting to enjoy the forest, going to save his friends of a wild panther in the clímax despite being terrified;
Jon and Garfield enjoying a wholesome Christmas with Jon's quirky and loving family;
Jon successfully amusing a young lady who has similar problems with awkward social interactions.
This goes to give dimension to the characters, showing Jon not as "just a pathetic looser", but as someone who, while branded a looser by others, and ocasionally acting melancholic, is still optimistic and adventurous.
Showing Garfield as a pet who can be capable of moments of sensibility, sharing his owner's sad moments, initially judge his choices of fun, but slowly learning to enjoy himself.
And Odie, how so much of the edgy fan works just make Odie exist in the middle as the dumb dog, when his character is the heart of the disfunctional little family: a bit naive, but capable of showing great inteligence when the other characters don't expect it?!
We shouldn't just see Jim Davis as the creator of the characters: few people talk about it, but besides voicing Garfield, Lorenzo Music was also a writer, producer and composer in his animated encarnation!
His input, alongside Low Rauls and Desiree Goyette's music, helped flash out the characters beyond being just mean spirited gags!
What I mean is: the dark and edgy had their moment of the zeitgeist, but I think highliting what is good and wholesome about the characters will be even more revoluctionary artistically, and show a better understanding of the characters beyond the limits of the three framed panels.
