IPL 2024 TEAM STRATEGIES: HOW EACH TEAM PLANS TO WIN
1. Chennai Super Kings (CSK)
The Chennai Super Kings, led by the legendary MS Dhoni, are known for their consistency and calm approach under pressure. In 2024, CSK will likely continue to rely on their tried-and-tested formula of experienced players combined with youthful exuberance. The core strategy revolves around a strong batting lineup, with seasoned campaigners like Ruturaj Gaikwad and Moeen Ali, supported by the finishing prowess of Dhoni. In the bowling department, Deepak Chahar’s ability to swing the ball and the spin duo of Ravindra Jadeja and Mitchell Santner will be crucial. CSK's strategy will focus on building partnerships and using their spinners to control the middle overs.
2. Mumbai Indians (MI)
Mumbai Indians, the most successful franchise in IPL history, will once again bank on their star-studded lineup and depth in both batting and bowling. Captain Rohit Sharma will aim to lead from the front, while Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan will look to provide quick runs. The inclusion of overseas stars like Kieron Pollard and Tim David will add firepower to their middle order. MI’s pace attack, spearheaded by Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult, will be a key component of their strategy, focusing on early breakthroughs and effective death bowling. Their all-rounders, particularly Hardik Pandya, will play a significant role in balancing the team.
3. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB)
With Virat Kohli stepping down as captain, RCB's strategy will undergo a subtle shift under the new leadership of Faf du Plessis. The batting order, featuring Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, and AB de Villiers, will aim to score aggressively, especially in the powerplay and death overs. RCB’s strategy will also involve utilizing their fast bowlers like Mohammed Siraj and Harshal Patel to exploit early breakthroughs and maintain pressure throughout the innings. Spin will be vital, with Wanindu Hasaranga expected to be a game-changer in the middle overs.
4. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)
KKR, under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer, will focus on a balanced approach with a mix of youth and experience. The batting lineup will revolve around the aggressive starts by Venkatesh Iyer and Nitish Rana, while the middle order will rely on Iyer’s stability and Andre Russell’s explosive hitting. KKR's strategy will heavily depend on their versatile bowling attack, featuring Pat Cummins' pace and Varun Chakravarthy's mystery spin. Their success will hinge on effective use of these bowlers to control the game's flow and restrict opposition scoring.
5. Delhi Capitals (DC)
The Delhi Capitals, led by Rishabh Pant, will aim to build on their recent successes. Their strategy will focus on a formidable top order featuring Prithvi Shaw, David Warner, and Pant himself. The batting depth, bolstered by all-rounders like Axar Patel, will be crucial. In bowling, the express pace of Anrich Nortje and Kagiso Rabada will be key to their plans, with spinners like Ravichandran Ashwin providing control in the middle overs. DC will likely focus on maintaining a high run rate while deploying their fast bowlers to make early inroads into the opposition's batting lineup.
6. Punjab Kings (PBKS)
Punjab Kings, led by Shikhar Dhawan, will aim for aggressive batting strategies. With the likes of Mayank Agarwal, Jonny Bairstow, and Liam Livingstone, PBKS will look to set or chase high targets. Their bowling strategy will revolve around the pace of Arshdeep Singh and the spin of Rahul Chahar. The focus will be on exploiting powerplay overs with aggressive bowling and ensuring tight overs during the middle phase to build pressure.
7. Rajasthan Royals (RR)
Sanju Samson's Rajasthan Royals will adopt a strategy of leveraging their top-heavy batting lineup, featuring Jos Buttler, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Samson himself. Their approach will focus on quick starts and maintaining a high scoring rate. In the bowling department, RR will rely on the experience of Trent Boult and the spin wizardry of Yuzvendra Chahal to take wickets at crucial junctures. Their all-rounders will provide the necessary balance to both innings.
8. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)
SRH, under the leadership of Kane Williamson, will emphasize a strong bowling strategy. Their pace attack, featuring Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Umran Malik, will aim to dominate the powerplay and death overs. Spin options like Rashid Khan will be pivotal in controlling the middle overs. SRH’s batting strategy will focus on Williamson’s anchoring role, with power hitters like Nicholas Pooran providing the firepower towards the end.
9. Lucknow Super Giants (LSG)
KL Rahul’s Lucknow Super Giants will aim to make a mark with a balanced squad. The strategy will revolve around Rahul and Quinton de Kock providing strong starts, while all-rounders like Marcus Stoinis and Krunal Pandya add depth. Their bowling will focus on pace spearheaded by Mark Wood and spin from Ravi Bishnoi. LSG will aim to be flexible, adapting their plans according to the match situation.
10. Gujarat Titans (GT)
Gujarat Titans, captained by Hardik Pandya, will focus on all-round performance. The strategy will include explosive batting from Shubman Gill and David Miller, while Hardik himself will be crucial in both batting and bowling. The Titans will rely on the pace of Mohammad Shami and the spin of Rashid Khan to control the game’s tempo. Versatility and depth in both departments will be their key to success.
The IPL 2024 season promises to be a showcase of strategic brilliance, with each team bringing its unique approach to the game. Whether it's leveraging star players, focusing on balanced squads, or employing innovative tactics, the franchises are leaving no stone unturned in their quest for the title. As the season unfolds, it will be fascinating to see which strategies pay off and lead their teams to IPL glory.

[ad_1] The Indian top order witnessed a bitter collapse in the opening Asia Cup 2023 game against Pakistan, with the top three of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Shubman Gill departing without contributing much with the bat. Shaheen Shah Afridi, Haris Rauf, and Naseem Shah did quite well with the ball until the pairing of Ishan Kishan and Hadik Pandya stabilised the Indian ship. Speaking of India's top-order collapse, iconic batter Sunil Gavaskar said that while Rohit and Virat got out to good deliveries, Shubman didn't look like himself in the game."Both the batters (Rohit and Virat) could've used their feet a bit better. Rohit Sharma had a big gap between his bat and pad. Shreyas Iyer was a bit unlucky. That was a cracking hook shot but it went straight to the fielder. If the fielder could've been 5 meters left or right, it would've been a boundary. Shubman Gill, for some strange reason, looked very subdued. Didn't look as if he was playing his natural game, seemed to be in some of uncertainty around him. That's why he didn't open his account for a long time and hardly looked the Shubman Gill that we know," Gavaskar said on India Today. While the trio of Rohit, Virat and Shubman were disappointing, Gavaskar was full of praise for Ishan and Hardik for the manner in which they handled the pressure and took India out of a troublesome position."Yes, I think what he showed was that an opening batter can bat anywhere down the order. It's not easy the other way around, where a middle-order batter can come in and open the batting. It's not easy, but an opening batter can be accommodated anywhere down the order, and he brings a left-handed dimension to the Indian batting line. If you could look at the top four, they're all right and then the left-hander comes in, so it makes it a little bit difficult for the bowlers."Plus, he's got this great ability to accelerate. He looks very, very small, but he packs a punch. He hit a couple of big sixes and the way he batted really was impressive because generally he likes to get after the bowling. But he was watchful when it was needed, recognized, realised what the situation was," Gavaskar said.Hardik emerged as India's top-scoring batter in the match, registering an 87-run knock in 90 balls as the Indian team put a respectable score of 266 runs on the board."There was, of course, Hardik Pandya at the other end who captained the Gujarat Titans. So he knows exactly you know what situation, how to adjust his game and he was guiding him. So that was a very, very good partnership. Without that partnership, India would have 175 or 200," said Gavaskar.Topics mentioned in this article [ad_2]

His sequence of scores in last six T20 Internationals is 74, 30, 56, 48, 55 and 56 and captaincy hasn't changed his style of play one bit. Read Ball by Ball Commentary, Series schedule of all ICC International & Domestic. But Rohit didn't allow the fall of wicket to bog him down as he got his fifty with a deliberate cut through the vacant third-man area off his opposite number. Find Live Cricket Scores, Match updates, Fixtures, Results, News, Articles, Video highlights only at ESPNcricinfo. Rohit's frustration was compounded when Rishabh Pant went for an ugly hoick to give Santner his third wicket in his second over. Post Powerplay, stand-in captain Mitchell Santner (4-0-27-3) was able to pull things back as Kishan edged an arm ball into the keeper's gloves while Suryakumar Yadav (0) played a loose shot to a tossed up delivery giving an easy catch to the cover, much to the irritation of his skipper. Rohit pulled Boult behind square for his first six and hit Adam Milne (0/47 in 4 overs) over long-on for the second maximum and the third off Lockie Ferguson was another pull behind the square into the stand below the giant electronic scoreboard. There was no preferential treatment as all the fast bowlers were treated with equal disdain as he and Kishan made full use of the Powerplay overs, which yielded 69 runs. Having got two flashy back-to-back boundaries off the very first over by Trent Boult, there was no looking back for Rohit. Ishan Kishan (29 off 21 balls), Shreyas Iyer (25 off 20 balls) and Venkatesh (20 off 15 balls) all got starts but couldn't convert it into a big score. In his bid to test the team's character by batting first, the skipper led the way with five fours and three sixes in his sublime knock but despite a blazing start, the Indians stuttered in the middle overs before Harshal Patel (18 off 11 balls) and Deepak Chahar (21 not out off 8 balls) used their long handles which fetched 50 runs in last five overs. When India batted, Rohit's imperious form was on full display as he laid the platform for an above par score. Watch the highlights of Cricket Videos 2021 match videos online only on. But what he has shown like his predecessor, Virat Kohli is ability to walk the talk with performances that his mates will look up to. CricHighlightsVidz - Cricket Videos 2021 Highlights. Harshal Patel is a welcome addition with his sincere efforts but the middle order still remains a bit iffy as it didn't perform up to expectation in any of the games.Ī few like Ruturaj Gaikwad and Avesh Khan went untested but the skipper will surely use all his options going forward. He bowled steadily and needs more game time to become a middle-order enforcer having been a top-order player. Venkatesh Iyer has shown potential and needs to be persisted with. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Ravichandran Ashwin's return to form in white ball cricket augurs well as there is no substitute for experience. Moreover, it will reflect on other players,” said Gambhir, who won two World Cup titles with MS Dhoni's Team India. For Rohit and head coach Rahul Dravid, this series was about checking what kind of ammunition they have going forward. Whether India play good or bad, his statements will always remain balanced. You won't hear such statements from Rahul Dravid. You won in England, performed well, no doubt. You won in Australia, that's a big achievement no doubt. Shastri-coached Team India side recorded two series triumphs over Australia in their tour Down Under. Virat Kohli-led Team India became the first Asian Test team to defeat Australia in their backyard under coach Shastri's watch. It's fine if others talk about it when we won the 2011 World Cup, no one gave statements saying that this team is the best in the world, let alone country,” Gambhir told Times Now Navbharat. “The one thing I found surprising is that when you play well, you don't usually boast about it. The former Indian head coach had famously compared Team India’s Test series win in Australia with the 1983 World Cup title triumph. The cricketer-turned-politician called out Shastri over his praise-worthy remarks about the Indian cricket team during his coaching stint. Gambhir, who welcomed the appointment of Dravid after Shastri's departure, was recently asked about the coaching stint of the former head coach. Dravid has replaced Shastri, whose iconic tenure as head coach ended after India's forgetful campaign in the recently concluded ICC World T20 2021. One of the most celebrated batters in the history of the sport, legendary cricketer Dravid was earlier appointed as the head coach of the Team India side.

Match Report: Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Mumbai Indians
Toby Reynolds, 09/04/2021
What a start to the 2021 IPL season!
Royal Challengers Bangalore beat Mumbai Indians by two wickets, on the final ball of the match. Mumbai were limited to 159 by RCB and Harshal Patel (4-0-27-5), after looking like they would post a much larger total. They then failed to defend their total, due to a fantastic innings from AB de Villiers.
Early Mumbai Dominance
The match got off to a mixed start. The two Mumbai openers, Lynn and Sharma, struggled slightly in the first few overs as the pitch played both low and slow, nothing new for Chennai. Lynn then proceeded to run out his partner in the fourth over after a mix up meant Sharma had to turn around half way down the wicket and was not even in the shot when the bails were removed. Luckily for Mumbai, Lynn managed to cash in later in the innings, finishing on 49 from 35 before being caught and bowled by Washington Sundar in the thirteen over.
While at the crease, Lynn was partnered by two of the up-and-coming Indian talents: Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan. Yadav continued his fine form from the India vs England series, scoring 31 off 23 before being dismissed and allowing the keeper-batsman, Kishan, to run riot for the seven overs he was in the middle. Kishan was his usual destructive self and blasted 28 off 19 at a strike rate of just under 150.
RCB Comeback
Enter Harshal Patel.
135/3 was about as good as it got for the Mumbai Indians in the first innings. They then proceeded to collapse to 159/9 from their 20 overs, with none of their next six batsman passing 13. Patel ended with figures of 5/27 from his four overs and took the wickets of: Kishan, Pollard, both Pandya brothers and Jansen. This dominance ended with three wickets from four balls in the final over, while only allowing one run.
A New Top Order
RCB over the past few seasons, have had arguably the strongest top order in the history of the IPL. Gayle, Finch, Moeen Ali and AB de Villiers have all featured, not to mention their talisman and captain, Virat Kohli. However, this season seems to have brought a new era to RCB. They opened with an unorthodox partnership of Washington Sundar (an off-spinning all-rounder) and Virat Kohli (most commonly seen at number 3 in T20 cricket).
Sundar was used as a makeshift opener as Devdutt Padikkal had not fully recovered after contracting COVID-19. I assume he was chosen to open for a few reasons: he is left handed, so could be used to counter match-ups Mumbai may have exploited if it was two right handers at the top of the order (ie. Krunal Pandya’s left arm spin); to be a surprise pinch-hitter to disrupt the bowlers plans and rhythm; and finally to allow the rest of the RCB batsmen to become accustomed to their designated spots and roles they will perform throughout the rest of the season. However, the strategy failed to pay-off, with "Washy” unable to score at a reasonable rate - stuttering to 10 from 16.
The Middle Order Cash-In
After a slow start for RCB, with none of the top three scoring at over 115, Glenn “The Big Show” Maxwell walked to the crease. He really struggled in the 2020 IPL season for Kings XI Punjab and failed to hit a six throughout the whole tournament, but he proved doubters wrong early on in his innings. Maxwell middled his third ball over point for four with a reverse sweep. A few overs later, he nailed a length ball by Krunal Pandya over long-on for six. The ball flew out of the stadium and travelled well over 100m!
Maxwell continued his form and was soon joined by AB de Villiers, who also decided to take apart the bowling attack. Combined, they hit seven fours and four sixes throughout the innings. Maxwell soon fell, however, leaving de Villiers lacking a partner to stay with him: Shahbaz, Christian and Jamieson all came and went. Luckily AB didn’t need a stable partner to blast the ball all round Chennai, ending on a spectacular 48 from 27. He guided RCB to 158/8, before he was run out with two runs needed and two balls left.
It fell to Harshal Patel and Mohammed Siraj to strike the winnings runs. Siraj padded his first ball for one, before Patel flicked a yorker to Bumrah at short fine leg for a single.
Awards
Man of the Match: Harshal Patel
Although it was his single from the final ball that actually won the opening match for RCB, his five wickets for 27 runs was the real difference between the sides. In the final over, he took the wickets of the dangerous H. Pandya and Pollard in two balls and only conceded one run from the over.
Honourable Mentions:
AB de Villiers
Carried his team right to the end with a match-winning 48, but was unable to stay at the crease to hit the winning runs.
Chris Lynn
After barbequing his captain in the fourth over, he managed to take advantage of his chance at the top of the order with usual opener Quinton de Kock still in quarantine.
Marco Jansen
A solid debut where he almost managed to defend the required seven from the final over and took the wicket of the dangerous Maxwell.

Thriller!
Mumbai Indians vs Royal Challengers Bangalore
Location: Dubai International Stadium
Game Analysis, Post Match Thoughts and Stand out performances
Tumblr media
This game was played between defending champions Mumbai Indians and four time finalists Royal Challengers Bangalore. Interestingly the teams were lead by India’s captain and vice captain with Virat Kohli captaining RCB and Rohit Sharma captaining the Mumbai Indians.
Virat Kohli won the toss and opted to bat first which was not a bad start as RCB hit the ground running after a great opening partnership between Aaron Finch and Devdutt Padikkal. Finch secured his first half century of the season but got dismissed by Trent Boult with Pollard taking a catch near the boundary. Virat Kohli the skipper walked out next. Kohli looked to make a statement of intent as he had been kept quiet with the bat in the previous two games. However it was not a good day for Kohli as he was dismissed for only 3 runs by Rahul Chahar. His fellow Indian teammate Rohit Sharma took the catch. RCB was under pressure and needed a good performance and they had the man to do just that. His name is AB de Villiers and he just nailed it along with Padikkal with both scoring half centuries. Padikkal also got out the same way as Finch and was out. Next came Shivam Dube who did the unthinkable, taking RCB to the 200+ run mark. RCB secured a total of 201 runs with the bat. Mumbai had hard work to do in order to win the game. Mumbai got off to a rough start with the bat after Rohit Sharma, de Kock and Suryakumar Yadav all went early in the game which proved to be very costly going forward. Hardik Pandya then came on to form a decent partnership with Ishan Kishan after hitting Adam Zampa for 2 sixes but then getting dismissed by the same man when he tried to go for another six but the ball went straight to Pawan Negi. Mumbai looked to be in trouble now and Pollard and Kishan were the only in form batsman left in the squad. They played slow until the CEAT tyres strategic timeout. Only god knows what they heard or did in those 2 and a half minutes because in the last 8 overs they gave everything starting with Kishan hitting a couple of sixes against Saini and Pollard getting started against Zampa and Chahal. Mumbai needed over 100 runs in the last 8 overs and brought it down to only 38 in the last 3 overs. At this point Pollard and Kishan had to hit a four or six with every opportunity they got and boy did they take their chances. Mumbai needed a total of 19 runs in the last over and started off with Ishan Kishan taking two runs after a disappointing hit. He made up for that with two sixes which bought Mumbai an opportunity to win the game needing just 5 runs off 2 balls. Kishan went for the win but got out after a mistimed shot. What was sad was that he got out for 99 runs, so disappointing to not see him hit the air and not getting a century. Now it was up to Pollard, it was do or die 5 runs of 1 ball if it was a six Mumbai win, if it was a 4 it would go to super over and it did go to a super over in fact the 2nd one of the tournament in just 10 matches! Mumbai made an interesting decision by not sending Ishan Kishan for the super over and had a fairly disappointing super over scoring only 7 runs and losing Pollard who hit their only boundary. RCB were expected to win but had a hard time with Bumarh’s yorkers but ABD still managed to hit a four after a bouncer by Bumrah and left Virat Kohli on strike to hit the winning runs and RCB won the game.
Tumblr media
Firstly I would like to congratulate RCB on their unbelievable performance and well deserved win. Good job! Mumbai were honestly never supposed to play the super over. I thought RCB would defeat us comprehensively looking at the way we were batting but boy was I wrong. Pollard and Ishan Kishan were our best players and gave us fans hope that Mumbai had a chance. About Ishan Kishan not going for the super over, Rohit Sharma later confirmed in an interview that Ishan Kishan was in no state to go out for the super over as he was exhausted which I and other MI fans understand. So well played RCB and good luck for the rest of your campaign! As for MI, a tough game against Kings XI Punjab next in Abu Dhabi.
Tumblr media
Some performances that stood out to me in the match were the batting performances of Ab de Villiers, Pollard and Ishan Kishan. Ab just nailed it with his performance in RCB’s batting innings and the super over. Pollard was the star of the show hitting 50 runs in 19 balls and giving Mumbai hope. Ishan Kishan was sensational and showed his potential and talent after a couple of disappointing campaigns with MI. These three players were just outstanding and in the end cricket won the hearts of fans this game because it just tells us it’s not over, anything can happen and it’s anybody’s game.

Post-Match Review of India vs SL 1st T20
The Indian team just completed a white wash against the mighty West Indies. The Indian team is in high flying momentum right now. Within days after the WI series was concluded India had another small T20 series against their neighbours Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka are touring India for 3 T20 and 2 Tests. The 1st T20 took place yesterday in Lucknow. Indian team had rested key players such as Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant while 2 key players returned from their respective breaks, Jadeja and Bumrah. India unfortunately hit a setback as 2 of key players in existing squad Deepak Chahar and Ruturaj Gaikwad suffered injuries and it looks like both will miss this tour.
Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to bowl first. Indian Batsmen especially openers started in full flow. Ishan Kishan went all out attacking and the Indian team in no time put on 100 runs. The 1st wicket fell at 10 over mark when Rohit Sharma departed for a well made 40. Shreyas Iyer joined Kishan and both started to smash SL bowlers all over the park. India ended their Innings at 199. Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer scored respective 50.
https://youtu.be/RYeduyBwJ-s
With a target of 200 on board, it always looked like a tough task for the Sri Lankan team. Sri Lanka started in an awful manner. They kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Sri Lankan Batsmen never had a chance to settle down and then play their shots. The Sri Lankan batsman always faltered and eventually ended up with a score of 137/6 in their 20 overs. Asalanka was lone warrior for Sri Lankan Team. Asalanka scored the only 50 in the Sri Lankan team.
Finally, India won the game by 62 runs and took 1-0 lead in the 3 match series with the remaining 2 games set to be played inDharamshala later in the week.  To follow us on IndvsSL for more such updates regarding this ongoing series.

Indian Premier League (IPL T20) - Kicks Off Today!
The stage is all set for yet another season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the world's richest cricket showpiece which gets underway today in the southern city of Chennai where the defending champions Mumbai Indians take on the Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Tumblr media
Although the matches will be played minus spectators, nothing is expected to take away the on-field action that has made the event one of the most looked forward to on the cricketing horizon with the very best of the T20 bashers lined up to display their prowess.
From the looks of it the Mumbai Indians have all what it takes to successfully defend their crown with players in the mould of skipper and opening batsman Rohit Sharma and the express pace duo of Jasprit Bumrah and New Zealander Trent Boult who had a sensational series last year.
To back the trio up are versatile allrounder Hardik Pandya who can change the course of a match single handedly, the power hitting West Indian Keiron Pollard, Quinton De Kock, Ishan Kishan and Chris Lynn who on their day can take apart any bowling attack pitted against them.
If the Royal Challengers have to do something to beat the Mumbai Indians, it will be left in the hands of skipper Virat Kohli, South African AB De Villiers and Australian Glen Maxwell to turn it around with the bat against a powerful Mumbai Indians bowling line-up.
But nevertheless it all points out to a close match in the curtain raiser where no team will want to make a losing start.
But while the Mumbai Indians have a firm grip on the Cup while moving out to defend it, there are other contenders waiting to grab the limelight and one of them is the Chennai Super Kings who had a poor season last year despite having a fine and successful track record where results are concerned.
Led by the charismatic MS Dhoni, the Super Kings can showcase players in the mould of Faf Du Plessis, Suresh Raina, Ravindra Jadeja, Dwayne Bravo, promising England allrounder Sam Curran and Ambati Rayudu among a host of others to deliver and get back into contention.
Another team that may come under curiosity could be the Delhi Capitals who boast of players in the likes of Shikkar Dhawan, Ravichandran Ashwin, Shimron Hetmyer, Rishabh Pant, Ajinkya Rahane, Steven Smith, Shreyas Iyer, Marcus Stoinis and Chris Woakes.
Whoever is looking for a Dark Horse may find it in the stables of Rajasthan Royals where the brilliant allrounder Ben Stokes, Andrew Tye, Sanju Samson, Chris Morris, David Miller, Jos Buttler and one of the fastest bowlers on show Jofra Archer can be found.
But no team in the fray can be considered as merely making up the numbers as Kings X1 Punjab, Sunrisers Hyderabad and the Kolkata Knight Riders have some of the best all rounders on the current scene to make it hard for rivals and and even sneak up with some surprise results that could add to the interest.
