1999 - Holiday Amber

I always loved Amber's dress from the pilot. She looks so good in blue and that dress was absolutely gorgeous. This dress reminded me so much of that one so it felt perfect for her.

Here we are at the final piece for the year.  Thank you all for joining me for this little Holiday series.  Excited to share more artwork in 2024 and looking forward to seeing new works in my fandoms.

The Winter Princess collection was a five doll series that, honestly, I could take or leave. Each doll in the series is Barbie in a voluminous princess dress themed around different winter concepts. A perfectly adequate collectors series, but nothing to write home about.

1997's Midnight Princess, for example, is a very colourful design, but I think it was done better by Bob Mackie's Holiday Barbie in 2006.

But where the Winter Princess collection really excels in my opinion is the box art.

The dolls themselves may be merely perfectly adequate collectibles, but the box design is incredibly striking and I think really shows off what Mattel could be doing if they set their mind to it.

Look at these side by side and tell me you honestly prefer the doll to the box she came in!

Or to look again upon Midnight Princess, and think about what could have been.

I love the box art for the whole series, and I would really love to see more display pieces like these.
