Dec 13 Odothon Part 1 - Star Trek DS9: S1E16, S1E11, S2E16, S2E18

Soundwave has An Idea about how to help Prowl’s current existential despair.

It includes showing him Star Trek episodes.

So far, Prowl is finding Odo exponentially more relatable.

ItsyBitsySpyers 5:27 pm *Soundwave's shift is over, it's hours until Prowl's, all the deployers save Chimera are crashed out after a late night, and neither him nor Prowl are due anywhere else for a bit.*

«All right. When—now?» ItsyBitsySpyers 5:30 pm Must have escaped from Quark's lab. Nobody would dare open a bridge inside Ratchet's greenhouse.

(txt): Affirmative. FakeProwl 5:33 pm «I'll be over in a moment.»

It's less than a minute before he activates his avatar, and looks for Soundwave at their usual seat. ItsyBitsySpyers 5:36 pm Soundwave's not at his usual seat just yet. He's at the bar, filling a small cube with bits of metals, minerals, energon crystals, and who knows what else. Still regrowing that fang, you know.

He sticks a long sliver of synth-en in his mouth and carries his makeshift snack bowl over to the couch, nodding to Prowl.

(txt): Sit, sit. Brief setting introduction required. FakeProwl 5:37 pm "All right." And a greeting/permission ping, as he takes their usual seat to wait. "Beyond the introduction to the setting I've already had in the episodes we've seen?" ItsyBitsySpyers 5:38 pm Oh, much better. He'll reach out for Prowl's thoughts while he makes himself comfortable and gets into the usual lean.

[[Frenzy's control has slipped the last few weeks.]]

[[Now. You may remember that the Bajorans threw out the Cardassian occupying forces after fifty years of enslavement and slaughter. What you do not know is this: The wormhole that appears near Bajor and the formerly Cardassian space station is said to be home to the Bajoran gods. These gods are strange beings who exist in non-linear time. After speaking with Benjamin Sisko through their unusual methods, they choose Benjamin Sisko as their Emissary to the Bajorans and agree to allow passage through it. The wormhole lets travelers move to a very distant and previously unexplored section of the galaxy in mere moments.]]

But Odo hasn't referred to mechanical life.]] FakeProwl 7:31 pm It's because they think that anyone who does not function and process emotions in a way identical to themselves is malfunctioning and "missing out" in a way that they find intolerable, because if they were to accept that his chosen state of existence is NOT hellish then it calls into question their own paradigms on relationships. And therefore his deviance makes it necessary for him to be cajoled, coerced, and bullied into submission, until he resembles everyone else. ItsyBitsySpyers 7:34 pm [[There is also that. He cannot tell you how often his early multiverse years - no. His time before prison as well. How often his refusal to share sparks was called into question. How important a function was was decided as much by politics as by statistics. FakeProwl 8:14 pm There WERE a few rare cases where someone could step outside their function. If you were brilliant enough, lucky enough, or connected enough—or some combination of the above—you could be declared "alt-mode exempt." Such status came with freedom to choose one's position. In Iacon, obtaining alt-mode exemption was tantamount to obtaining instant nobility. In Petrex, it was as often as not a pariahhood. ItsyBitsySpyers 8:32 pm *Nod.*

If there other mode was something with a function—a tool, a vehicle, whatever—then their other mode was the one that determined their purpose. Many Functionists believed that they belonged with "their kind"—the animals they looked like, out on the streets or in the wild. Some time after her continued scheming, several of Deep Space 9's members go to the Gamma Quadrant on a scientific journey.
