I've been enjoying Baldur's Gate 3 SO much and none of my friends have played it, so I've decided to share things onto Tumblr! I'm annoying and want to share/talk about my lovely characters, so I'm gonna share some information about my first character. I honestly want to replay the game and romance every character because I want to experience all the character moments with a character I visualize. If you like this share some info about your characters! I love learning about everyone's Tav/Durge!

My first character:

Gwendolyn Springsong

Gwendolyn is a Half-Elf and she grew up in a small town outside of Baldur's Gate with her Mom, who is a Wood Elf. Gwen is a Bard, College of Lore, and is the leader of the group (in my game/world/lore). Unlike everyone else, cause most my Tav's are gonna have sob stories, Gwen lived a pretty normal life prior to her abduction. Most of her youth involved her questioning her gender, but when she was 12 she knew she was a woman and her Mom supported her in getting the medical care she needs (Gwen didn't originally start as trans, but as a trans woman the more I thought about it the more it made sense). She moved to Baldur's Gate to start Bard College, as she had a natural talent and would play at her local Inn for coin. Gwen then decided to officially stay in Baldur's Gate after graduating, but she visits her mother frequently. The day she was abducted, she was performing for a family outside of Baldur's Gate. Wrong place, wrong time. As she begin to work with new faces and figure out how to rid of the tadpole, Gwen ended up falling into the "leader" role due to her charisma & protectiveness over everyone, and due to how nosey she is. Gwen never felt destined for anything, but somehow destiny found her.

Fun Facts:

Gwen is 36

Gwen is Bisexual, she doesn't necessarily follow the "Bard's are sluts" trope, but she is a disaster bisexual and has too many crushes

If Baldur's Gate had Alignments, Gwen would be Chaotic Good

Gwen is 5'2" (short Queen), she gets her height from her Dwarf father

Gwen's instrument of choice is the Lyre

She is naturally a brunette, but dyed her hair pink since she wanted it to stand out (it's also her favorite color)

Gwen knows some Druid circle practices, since her Mom is a Druid

Her focus is "College of Lore" because she wants to know as many things as she can

Tends to be blindly optimistic & wants to see the good in everyone

Gwen's VERY good at lying and putting a facade on when she's not ok as she normally puts on a positive front for everyone else

Gwen doesn't follow any of the Gods, but she will pray to Selune or Chauntea occasionally

Most charismatic member in the group

Is the group healer, along with Shadowheart

Group dynamics/relationships:

Gwen is best friends with everyone at camp, but questions Minthara's choices A LOT

She loves stealing with Astarion

Everyone tends to express their feelings to Gwen, she's like the group leader & therapist, but Gwen normally only confides in Shadowheart

Originally Astarion & Gwen didn't get along, but the two bonded over their similar taste in wine & impressive skills in breaking into places they probably shouldn't be in

Gwen was the one who prevented Shadowheart from killing Lae'zel

Gwen's blind hope in each group member has led her into dangerous situations which annoys Shadowheart, but is something she also loves about Gwen

As soon as Karlach was able to touch people, Gwen basically gave her a hug every hour

One early night when the group was very drunk, Gwen let it slip that she's had a crush on everyone in the group except for Astarion & Gale

She knows ALL the group dirt & drama

Gwen has met met Wyll's Dad prior to the start of the game, as she has performed at a ball he was at and she is best friends with Charity, one of my other OC's, who comes from a noble fanily

Karlach and Wyll would try to get Gwen to work out with them, but she is not athletic at all and would frequently sneak away

If anyone says anything out of pocket, Gwen makes eye contact with Shadowheart (love a side eye queen)

Gwen would try to read books Gale recommends, but most of them would bore her (so she asks Charity to tell her about the book)

Gwen would, though, find something each member was interested in and try to be good at it/learn more about it

If anyone questioned Gwen's leadership choices, Shadowheart & Lae'zel would instantly back her up. Lae'zel would also make several comments how nice it is to have a woman in charge.

Gwen's Mom knew Jaheira & talked about how heroic she was, so Gwen totally fangirled when she met her, and Minsc

Romance dynamics with Shadowheart & Halsin:

As soon as Gwen met Shadowheart, she had a crush on her. Shadowheart learned of this crush pretty early on and would constantly tease Gwen, until the Teilfing party where they finally kissed

Gwen is in a polyamorous relationship with Shadowheart & Halsin, the three of them are very happy together (they agreed they can sleep with others if they inform the others, but Halsin is really the only one who MAY sleep with another)

Halsin was the one who yearned for Gwen, and when they finally talked about their feelings, Gwen told Shadowheart everything and gave her a speech, to which Shadowheart responded with "so, we both want to climb mount Halsin, huh?" (my bisexual, in my headcanon, queens)

Shadowheart will tease Gwen by calling her "shorty", even though Shadowheart is barely taller than her (in my headcanon)

After they dealt with the parasites, Gwen & Shadowheart find a cozy home in Gwen's hometown and invited Shadowheart's parents to stay with them, Halsin would visit frequently and at some point he just ends up staying

Gwen would wait for Shadowheart to go back to sleep when Shar would hurt her, and if Halsin was there he'd stay up to comfort her (and at some point the pain stops)

Gwen & Shadowheart frequently have everyone over to reconnect

Gwen always worried about Shadowheart's relationship with Shar and would drop subtle hints of worry with Shadowheart, believing at the end of the day Shadowheart would do what was best for her, but whenever Shadowheart directly asked for Gwen's opinion she would SHARE IT

Shadowheart & Halsin would go to Gwen's performance and just talk about how talented and beautiful she was

ALWAYS little spoon, no matter who she is cuddling with

aaaaaa sophie tysm 🥺 i would be HAPPY to spare some facts abt them (im still working on the ask meme u sent me im sowwy <333) buckle up tho bc theres.... four of them lol 🤪

so estrilda nerezac is my most recent tav. she's a draconic bloodline sorcerer from the noble house nerezac (descended from a gold dragon named solarien) and is, fittingly, the proudest of all my tavs with a nice little (big) superiority complex to boot. she has the thickest french accent which doesn't matter but i love. her family's flitted about a lot in the last few generations (sun elves amirite) but they returned from evermeet in the 1360s, when estie was about 10, and settled in silverymoon. that makes her roughly 140 years old by the time of bg3, so she's Lived A Life in that time. she'd just recently agreed to take a husband from one of the other sun elf noble houses in silverymoon and was on the road to everlund with her older brother valoran to look at wedding dresses when the nautiloid took them. valoran is successfully turned into a mindflayer while they're on-board 😔

she romances gale and they spend most of their time together by turns either competing with each other (my magic is better than your magic) or having some surprising moments of understanding & comfort lol. they end up married and settling down in waterdeep (which her family has their issues with) and having a couple of kids. estie unfortunately will outlive him but im trying not to think abt that haha.

then there's alarice silversong, who's a college of swords bard. she was raised by four "mothers" in a brothel (only 1 of them was her mother by blood, but they all looked after her) in the lower city of baldur's gate. birth name was alice. fell in love with music as a child bc she was expected to play the lute for the brothel's patrons on the main floor. after 3 of her moms died, she ended up on the streets, where she became quite the accomplished little pickpocket and eventually joined the guild. nine-fingers became a sort of mother figure to her — which is why she's so pissed that alarice ran off with loot from duke ravengard, blowing an operation wide open and getting multiple guild members killed before the nautiloid grabbed her. despite being selfish & greedy & an incorrigible liar, alarice is charismatic & fun, so she's good at drawing people in. lonely tho.

her and astarion have a lot of similar issues, so their romance is a lot of learning to recognise and love yourself through the other <3

next is callista lomarel, a cleric of selûne native to baldur's gate. she was abandoned on the steps of the house of the moonmaiden when she was only a couple of days old, bc her (noble) family were all human and she popped out purple with a tail, so. that's all she really knows about her past for the most part, which she pretends to be ok with, but curiosity and abandonment issues do haunt her a lot. she was raised in the faith, an acolyte in the same place she was abandoned at, and maybe she was never loved in the way that most children are loved by their parents, but she felt the love of selûne every day of her life and became a very dedicated cleric. she didn't really leave the house of the moonmaiden (making her very naive and ignorant to the ways of the world) until the day she was taken by the nautiloid. she's super sweet and gentle, very kind, looks after everyone around her. baby.

she romances shadowheart <333 while shadowheart goes into the romance trying to convert her to shar (lol SIKE for her), callista just... sees good in her and can't stop seeing it, no matter how much she wishes she could sometimes. they r very cute girlfriends by the end. shadowheart's callista's first lover ever so it's a learning curve for her but yeah. <3

and then the tav that i know the least about is izevel (no surname), who's a half-drow great old one warlock and my dark urge tav <3 i haven't played huge amounts of her and i dont want to spoil the durge for myself so i rly don't have much to say except that i think she's going to romance wyll and she tries very hard to be a good person despite her fucked up urges. cant wait to eventually get to her full playthrough LOL

4. Is your Tav close with whoever raised them?

So Isaac has distanced themselves from their family. I kinda recycled some of the backstory from my d&d Bard Runa, and Isaac is kind of an AU version that had a different path. I think the key difference is that Runa has a good relationship with her father (despite his flaws) and her entire reason for adventuring is to try and get a better life for both of them. And in another Universe he got caught up in his worst qualities and wasn't there for Isaac when they needed him. They lived with their uncle a lot after dad lost everything gambling, but that family cared more about their appearances and business reputation than Isaac and wouldn't defend them against the church which lead to them leaving and changing their name and everything (including pronouns)

10.Was your Tav in a relationship? How did it end?

Before the tadpole? No. There was a man who was very interested in Isaac (particularly in their bardic powers) and wanted to sort of..phantom of the opera them to use said powers for his own purposes (like gambling) and basically keep them like a bird in a cage (figuratively and literally) When they refused his advances he tried to sacrifice Isaac to the goddess of luck. So I'd say that non-relationship ended badly.

Now they're romancing Astarion. Which, has some funny implications considering that their father was also a rogue who would bed anything with a pulse (If you can imagine a half-elf BBC Casanova with some Cary Elwes, that's Destin) I think the rest of the party would tease them for the similarities. 17. What’s your Tav’s worst childhood memory?

Oof. Well, as a small child Isaac grew up with their parents who were traveling performers (Their mom was a Bladesinger and their Father was a Swashbuckler Rogue that would do Errol Flynn type tricks, and apparently a Half Elf Dancing/Singing Wizard + Half Elf Rogue = Half Elf Bard) which I think was probably pretty good and happy for them... at least until it fell apart. Their mother disappeared, supposedly forced to go back to her estranged family. Isaac took that as the polite excuse (Like saying your dog went to live on a farm) and believes she's just a dead beat who abandoned them. In their father's eyes she could do no wrong and even years later is still hung up on her as the "one that got away."

That's when Destin as a single parent started falling into more gambling and other recklessness and bad habits. Sometimes he'd clean himself up and have his shit together for a while, but before too long he was a mess again. Ultimately not a reliable parent and Isaac got yo-yo'd back and forth between taking care of him and staying with their uncle wondering when/if he'd come back for them.

i wanted to post some tavs!!!

here we have mafalda tav who is a tiefling wizard and is in love with shadowheart <3 girlie we have GOT to cult deprogram you it's actually dire <3 - direct quote, act 2.

mafalda (yes named after communist comic strip icon) is an icy gorl she uses ice magic only (fuck a fireball. cast ice storm. get knocked prone, idiot) and is very "defrosting ice-queen" so her relationship is just two goofy idiots pretending to be aloof and mysterious. they're hysterical and i love them. she sees a lot of herself in rolan and she still let him die because she couldn't stand his attitude, mostly because she can't stand herself, and she's not embarassed by that decision at all. sometimes she is a little shady, tbh.

she lost her eye for the bantz lol and frankly i find the tradeoff to be VERY satisfying. invisibility whomst? not on my watch!! she loves the tiefling children SO SO much.

this is tav (just tav) who is a half-elf warlock indentured to the fey! he only ever calls his patron "my lady fair" "my fairest lady" and "my rose-speckled mistress" but he does serve titania, queen of the summer court.

he is romancing astarion because he thought the seduction attempt was funny, but he originally had his eyes set on wyll. however he decided to remain friends after wyll said he wanted a love story for the bards, because tav has been there, done that, and he doesn't need a repeat!!! to wit: he has an ex-wife in baldur's gate who is an 87 year old salonnière and a lesbian daughter and some adopted grandkids by her who all only barely care about him, and he prefers it that way.

he met his wife in the feywild when she was performing for the queen (got lost in a fairy circle) and they adventured together before she retired to raise their kid. she has since had four other husbands and is the most badass person in the world, and he'll never love anyone like he loves her, he thinks, but also god is he waiting for her to die already.

this is a picture from a previous run but this is marceline laimant, my dark urge, she is a middle aged arab mom and she hates all of her companions <3 she is based on an actual dnd character of mine, her son, armand; marceline was the leader of a bhaalite cult of murderous serial killers who was the villain in armand (her son, paladin of redemption)'s character arc, and i originally made armand to be my durge.

however i thought playing durge and resisting constantly and having to jump through hoops to keep my oath was annoying, so i reloaded as marceline, and it's been murder and mayhem ever since, baby!

we are out here making everyone into the worst version of themselves possible and it's a grand old time. i will maybe romance minthara, we'll see.

this is sister tav and she is large <3 she is a paladin here but i since respecced her into a fighter bc i am tired of spellcasting <3 but her backstory is that she is a paladin of sune, goddess of love and beauty, and she is just a big handsome butch knight.

she originally started worshipping sune because as a child in her village she saw a team of women builders come repair a broken bridge and would watch them work every day and was enraptured by how beautiful they all were <3

i have not decided yet if she will romance shadowheart (i cannot resist a goth woman it's true), karlach or laezel yet, but she is a lesbian and she is big and she is kindhearted. the women in this game are too beautiful and powerful and intense and well-written and i'm in love with them all please i want to romance them all at once. larian, i'm begging you,

she gives good massages. she is going to crack shadowheart's back like a glowstick and knock the sharran discipline right out of her. that's a promise.

i am already sighing at the notion of having to reject gale. gale, please get a hold of yourself already. you're too old for this.

speaking of gale, this is antonin tav and he is an oath of ancients paladin who kind of grew up in a cult also? but a good one! (lol) he is a half-orc and he was going to be killed by his orc dad as a child for being sickly and tiny but his older brother stole him and ran away. they grew up in the woods with some druids and rangers and kind of founded this community with his older brother at the centre of it as the kindly forest guru. he did NOT take kindly to kagha!

he is still at the grove but he is going to rock gale's world believe you me

So I've been playing Baldurs Gate 3, as I'm sure many have and I'm just going to post my Tavs backstory here because why the hell not.

I actually have three, but ones a dark urge and I'm playing that with no backstory if my own so ill be doing two backstorys! Here we goooooo!

Tav 1: Liz

Age: 25

Wood Half-Elf Ranger, Urchin

One mother was an elf, Lizera, barely an adult by Elven standard but already a Ranger of well renown. She had traveled many places and had known many people but always came back to the same one. A wizard well beneath her status as a Master Ranger, let alone as on Elf. A human wizard at that. Suffice to say that her parents were not pleased with this, but as she was an adult, she was free to do as she wished.

The other mother, the wizard, Rea. She was good at her craft, not the best and certainly not known country round, but she could hold her own. She wasn't really a fighter, instead choosing to use the magic she learned to help heal the people around her. There, she found out she could help struggling couples bear their own children.

The next step was obvious to the two, a child. They were in love and had already been married for some time now. The elfs disapproval be damned. When they learned of the pregnancy they fought it at first, wanting the two to get rid of it. When the soon to be mothers refused, Livera was cast out of her family.

They time came for Lizera to give birth and there were complications. Lizera died in child birth and Rea was left to care for their child alone. They were named Liz after their mother.

Five years the two lived by themselves until they were visited in the night. It was Lizeras brother. He had been sent by their family to kill the one They deemed responsible for their daughters death. Liz became an orphan that night

They took to the streets as an urchin and grew up there, stealing and peddling for anything. They tried to learn magic for a while but could never concentrate, so taking what they could learn they turned to the woods. They remember brief flashes and words from their mom about their mother. How she had been a Ranger, a Master Ranger.

If they could not be a wizard, then they would be a Ranger.

Tav 2: Del

Age: 170

High Elf Bard, Criminal

Dels father loved the arts, music specifically. He delighted in teaching her everything he could. About music and how to use it to trick people.

Their mother was sick and was unable to leave the house. So their father, using his musical abilities, charmed the nobility in their town. He played at parties with his group while one of them snuck around and swiped whatever they could. After splitting the spoils he would use his part for as much medicine and food he could get.

He's a criminal and a thief, but only to the rich.

It was only natural that when Del grew up watching this, she two wanted to help. It's only natural for children to mimic those around them. So one night when she was around 70, basically an adult she told her father, she was able to convince him to let her come along.

After promising her mother that she wouldn't get involved yet, she was allowed to go. The party was being held in a palace in the Lower City region of Baldurs Gate. When they go there Del couldn't help but follow one of the band members around instead of her father.

The palace was big, bigger than anyplace Del had been in anyway, and full of people. Elves, teiflings, you name it. In the midst of them all Del caught a brief glimpse of a man. The oddest red eyes she had seen, even from afar, that she just knew we never supposed to seem soft but couldn't look cruel. He didn't look all that older than her, bit before Del could muster up the courage to say something he was gone.

Her father was caught stealing at the party, and the whole band was arrested. Del continued in her father's footsteps to earn enough to care for herself and her mother. She could play in the highsociety parties anymore, but she could distracted them elsewhere, while the crew she joined up with robbed them blind.

Sadly, her mother passed away not long after they turned 98, and with her father still locked away, they host of the party did not enjoy being made a fool for having criminals as his entertainers and pulled stings to get them life sentences. Del turned from he life of crime and wandered as a bard until she was kidnapped, and a mindflayer worm was put in her brain, that is.
