Here is your reminder that veiling does NOT have to be with traditional veils!
It's okay to veil with a hat.
It's okay to veil with a bandana.
It's okay to veil with a scarf.
It's okay to veil with jewelry.
It's okay to veil with oils.
It's okay to veil with perfume.
It's okay to veil with a simple cleansing.
Heck, it's okay to veil with hair binding!!
It's okay to veil with ANYTHING, and to prove it, here is my veil for today. It's a new hairstyle I'm trying out! (Also, a face reveal?? omg!)

for pagans/witches who veil or cover their hair for their practice full time, do yall consider modest clothes essential to your veiling or do you still wear what you want? i’ve seen this debate among the community and am interested in seeing what everyone has to say!
for reference i do veil for my practice, just not everyday and i tend to still wear what i want but with limitations!

To Lady Hestia for confidence and safety when veiling
Hear me, Beloved Hestia,
Daughter of Kronos of Time and Flowing Rhea.
She who feeds the fires of Olympus and calls all hearths her home,
Eternal Hestia, the veiled goddess, and keeper of the home,
If I have ever lit your flame in your honour, please accept this prayer,
I wear this veil in honour of you and ask you to grant me the confidence to wear it in public, please sheild me from the negative thoughts and actions of others and to keep me safe outside my home,
I ask for your favour with a token of my praise, I offer to you (offering)

Went on a walk wearing my veil for the first time in public, and this field of buttercups reminded me of Lord Apollon, I ended up collecting a few and putting them on his altar

im sorry i have a question. Who is supposed to wear veils in hellenic paganism? Women? Men? both? and are there differences between the veils of women and men?
No need to apologize, I'm happy to answer! Typically, veils in Ancient Greece were worn by women. However, there were situations where men also wore veils, specifically while in the presence of a God. However, The ancient Greeks didn't really Veil for religious resons. Moreso, women did it for modesty, and was also often a status symbol. I like to use it in my practice as a sign of worship, but it's important to note that, historically, it wasn't used that way in Ancient Greece.
So, women did wear veils more often. However, theres nothing saying that a man can't veil whenever he feels like it in today's society, so I feel like there's really no restraint.

Pagan Veiling
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’ve been veiling as a Pagan for about two years now! It’s not something I talk about a lot, but it started as a simple act of devotion to my deities, especially when I was falling behind in my devotional work while school was picking up.
I kept doing it because it honestly makes me feel pretty and the most connected to my craft, even on days when I haven’t done much to honor my gods.
I’ve always been someone that needs routines and rituals to feel connected to a religion, so this is a simple way for me to feel that connection! 🫶

How I'm wearing my himation today.
My new job knows about veiling. However they haven't seen me do something off the hair and on the body. Today I honor my fathers memory and with pride I will wear it. My job will just have to cope.

Veiling and it’s relation to Lady Asteria
This is very UPG based so feel free to disregard if you feel otherwise (I’ll be forgoing lady/lord for ease of typing)/please excuse any errors or lack of coherency, I’m not the most articulate and may come back to edit or add to it
In the, admittedly, limited historic art we have of Asteria, she is commonly seen wearing a veil, or has her hair tied up in a bun of sorts.
I like to associate her hair and veil with the fact that she remains loyal to her husband and evades Zeus’ pursuit, as many of the gods that veil are either maidens or had a singular marriage without other consorts (Hera, Hestia, Artemis, etc.), so when veiling with her in mind I ask for her to keep me out of harms way from those who wish me physical harm or unwanted attention.
It also reminds me of both her starry and Delos aspect
I relate it to her stars as it’s a blanket over your head that is so light and comfortable that you sometimes forget it’s there, like the stars, in which you might not be constantly aware of them but they’re always there.
On the opposite side with her Delos aspect, however, is that it keeps us grounded (being the ground we walk on instead of the stars we’re unable to reach) and that it’s tied to us in some more mortal way, as you have to be aware of it when fastening it or feeling it against your skin.
So while it may give use give us the feeling of an unreachable safety or something that’s watching over us even when we’re unaware of it, it still keeps us grounded onto earth and reminds us that she’s always we us even if we’re unable to visualise it

Needing Advice!
Khaire everyone! Sorry if this is random but, lately I've been thinking of officially starting to veil as a Hellenic Pagan, in honour of Lady Hestia, and to show my devotion, piety and chastity in relation to her worship. I've been wearing bandanas for almost a year now, nearly daily; and I love them, it makes me feel so secure and protected, and I've been thinking about officially veiling a lot. It just been..calling to me I guess? I usually like dressing rather modestly as well, and veiling just seems like a step in the right direction now. However, here comes the main part of the post...I live with my parents and don't know how I would explain it if I did start veiling, I don't think they'd get it. It's not like they're rude about my practices, they just don't really understand it, so I'm only slightly closeted I suppose you could say? Anyways, I really want to start this new step in my relationship with my practice and my deities, but I don't know how I should go about it. If anyone has any tips or advice, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, and blessed be 🧡

hi! genuine question/comment (?) but i thought veiling was also meant to protect from miasma, and while i guess that was also considered just a part of regular life, wouldn't that be sort of a religious reason for veiling?
Oh, I'm not sure! I couldn't find anything on that when I was researching earlier. But if that is the case then yeah, I would definitely consider that to be a spiritual/religious reason. I'll have to look more into that.
