A couple of opinions of mine (aka a super long rant cause I don’t know how to summarize or get to the point) regarding Aether not coming back to the band for the 2023 tour.
TLDR at the end in case you don’t want to read all of my rambling lol
Mentions of unmasked era 4/5 ghouls and Ifrit ghoul (fire ghoul/lead guitar 2017) under the cut
I wanna start this by saying that Tobias Forge and none of the ghouls, but especially the new ghouls, deserve any kind of hate from anyone regarding this situation and we should respect what’s going on as well as their decisions, privacy, and roles in the band.
To the people saying things along the lines of “Oh you wouldn’t care this much or even notice the difference if you didn’t know who was under the mask” or “This is why the nameless ghouls should stay nameless,” I respectfully disagree.
Was the purpose of the nameless ghouls to be nameless and anonymous? Yes. Do both the past and present nameless ghouls deserve respect and courtesy from all the fans regarding their identities and relations to the band? Yes of course.
But here’s the thing:
For one: I think I speak for many people when I say that we would still notice that Aether/Chris was gone even if we didn’t know his identity. Everyone noticed that we have a new ghoul on rhythm guitar, they LOOK DIFFERENT because it’s a DIFFERENT PERSON. We knew Chris wasn’t with the band during the first part of the tour even BEFORE he said anything about it. because we know the ghouls, we know how they look and we can tell them apart. It doesn’t matter if we know who’s under the mask or not, we’re still gonna be sad about one of the ghouls leaving because we love all of them. (hell, Zephyr/ChAir and Ifrit are two of my favorite ghouls and I miss them every day and they were in the band for LESS THAN A YEAR) Chris has been with the band for SIX YEARS and he was the first and only quintessence ghoul/rhythm guitarist after the heartbreak that was the lawsuit situation. We KNOW that the ghouls are an everchanging rotating cast but that doesn’t make it any less sad. We know the papas change as well and it STILL makes people sad (myself included ofc) and we don’t always want to see them go. So I think it’s kind of unfair to say that people wouldn’t miss Aether/Chris if we didn’t know who’s under the mask because I think we still would.
Second thing: In my opinion, it’s awesome that we know the identities of the nameless ghouls because then we can support their other work and projects. I found Ghost about a year ago and have loved them ever since, even though it’s not the kind of music that I would typically listen to. Before, I listened to some metal and rock but I mostly listened to pop, r&b, country, and alternative. But then I heard Year Zero for the first time, decided to check out Ghost, listened to Bible and Witch Image religiously for a few days, and quickly developed an unhealthy obsession with the band. But I ONLY listened to their music and didn’t know anything about the actual band or any of the lore.
Then I started seeing videos of the 2022 Imperatour on TikTok and fell in love with the ghouls and Papa and the theatrics and all the lore. After that, I started watching interviews with Tobias Forge and he seemed so cool then I started learning about the people behind the ghoul masks and their other work. And I LOVED IT ALL. I never would have discovered this work without knowing who the nameless ghouls really are.
Without knowing their identities I never would’ve discovered the Sisters of Mercy (a band that Chris Catalyst and Ben Christo were/are in), I never would’ve discovered Drag Talk (a group that Jutty Taylor and Hayden Scott are a part of) or Juttys old music (Jutty Ranx anyone?), I never would’ve discovered Diamond Black (a group that Ben Christo started that has become a top band for me on Spotify), I never would’ve started listening to Cos Sylvan, Mad Gallica, Chris, or Jutty’s other music without knowing them from Ghost. (and of course, I love Per, Laura, Hayden, and Sophie too but I don’t really listen to their other music tbh)
These artists and the other music they create are musicians and contributors to types of music that I’m still new to and probably wouldn’t really listen to if I had never found them through these people. Maybe I’m the only person with this experience but I’m pretty sure I’m not, and I’m beyond thrilled that I was able to find these amazingly talented people and their awesome work through the band Ghost. I personally see finding out their identities as a bit of a double-edged sword, because while they’re not anonymous and nameless anymore, we still get to be exposed to these musicians and their other work.
So TLDR: One: I don’t think it’s fair to say that we wouldn’t miss Aether if we didn’t know his true identity because we would still know that he’s gone and that someone is taking his place. Two: I think it can be a good thing that we know the nameless ghouls' identities because it means that we can support their other work and show them our love by supporting their music and projects outside of Ghost because we know who they are behind the masks.

Meet My MC: Basil Park
Tumblr media
FC: Eric Mun
Book: Perfect Match
Name: Park Byeong-Cheol. But at school and among friends he was called Basil so the name stuck.
Age: 26 at the start of PM.
Birthday: June 5th.
Sexual Orientation: Pansexual
Hair: Short, Brown.
Eyes: Deep Brown.
Birthplace: New York
Race/Ethnicity: Asian. From Seoul, South Korea.
Love Interests: Sloane Washington, Sage Young (formerly Hayden), Khaan Mousavi, Alana Kusuma, Damien Nazario.
Personality: Calm - Logical - Ambivert - Flirtatious - Goal-oriented - Patient.
Trivia:
- Basil and Sloane are very fond of exchanging different cultural stories and legends on constellations!
- Loves collecting pebbles and smooth stones!
- Favourite food item is the saffron and rose ice cream sandwich from Mashti Malone in LA. At one point in their friendship, he told Damien once he wouldn't mind moving there just to have it every day (that was how he found out Damien was from LA, coz that's what he said after Basil said that). He also loves bagels with cream cheese and lox
- Is a good singer and has learned tap dancing
- Like all PM MCs, can't cook to save his life
- He dated Sloane and Sage from the start, but started dating Damien shortly after they reunited in Tokyo
- On the jet plane to Berlin, Basil and Hayden listened to music together. Simon and Garfunkel's "Scarborough Fair" was a song both Basil and Hayden loved, and they sang the refrain together, very dramatically ("parsley saaaaaage rosemaryyyy and thyyyyyyyme!!!"). So when she wanted to change her name, the two chose Sage as an inside joke on that song 😅
Education: A BFA and MFA in Illustration from School of Visual Arts, NY. Nadia and Basil have both always showcased talents and interest in the visual arts, but Nadia's interest encompass various genres of art, while Basil focuses more on illustration and visual design. He's designed a couple covers, mostly for children's books.
Favourite Travel Destination: Jeju Island in his native SK, Santorini in Greece.
Backstory: No one who knows him now will believe how much of a wild-child he was as a kid. Very distracted, extremely talkative, really stubborn, and Basil and Nadia always got annoyed with each other at that age. Most of the family wouldn't be able to pinpoint exactly when he changed coz it happened so gradually over a long period of time, but clearly by the time he left for college he was a different person altogether. Since he and Nadia attended the same uni, they grew closer to each other in comparison to most of their cousins (tho they do love them all!)
Relationships and Children: I'm still deciding on kids! I do know that all the group besides Damien (coz he usually sticks to one relationship), the others date other people - Sloane dates Khaan and Alana, Sage also dates a Sri Lankan woman called Nilukshi who she meets while taking up rock climbing.

Remember those nameless ghouls that I mentioned in the first post, well here is their explanation. The nameless ghouls were genuinely nameless up until May 2022. Ghost’s photographer posted a photo with all of the band members at the end of their European leg of the Imperatour. Fans quickly did their research and were able to name all of the ghouls. However, up until this point the fans had given the ghouls nicknames that they are still referred to as.
There are eight ghouls in total, three women and five men. The three female members are also known as the Ghoulettes. The first member is Fire (Per Eriksson), also known as Alpha, Dewdrop, Stompy, and Sodo, and he is the lead guitarist. Next is Water (Cos Sylvan) also known as Rain, and he is a bassist. Air (Dylan Louise) also known as Cumulus plays the keyboard and also serves as background vocals. Earth (Hayden Scott) otherwise known as Mountain is the drummer. Aether (Chris Catalyst) previously known as Omega and Quintessence plays rhythm guitar and performs some backing vocals. Cirrus (Laura Scarborough) plays keyboard, tambourine, and key tar as well as singing background vocals. Sunshine (Sophie Amelkin) also goes by the names Stratus and Infinity plays tambourine and keyboard.
Last but not least, and my personal favorite, is Swiss (Jutty Taylor) also known as Multi Ghoul or Shadow. Swiss does a little bit of everything from guitar, vocals, and tambourine to saxophone and more. One thing that is unique about Swiss is that in the Imperatour show they resurrect Papa Nihil who, if you read my first post, you would remember as the originator of the band. Swiss dresses as Papa Nihil to perform a very funny and enjoyable Sax solo during the song “Miasma.” The Ghouls are an important part of the appeal of the band Ghost and they create a performance that is not only enjoyable to listen to but enjoyable to watch as well.

I believe some people need reminding of Godwin’s law. From the early 1990s up until Trump’s election, there’s been the popular meme and widely accepted notion that “whoever makes a comparison to Hitler during debate, instantly loses the debate.” Today, Hitler comparisons are the debate. At the time, attorney and author Mike Godwin claimed people were overusing references to Nazis in order to discredit their opponents’ arguments which ultimately trivialized the Holocaust. Today, comparisons to the Holocaust are being made by almost every mainstream media outlet, talkshow host and Democrat.
MSNBC anchor Joe Scarborough was the latest to make the comparison, claiming there’s a resemblance between illegal immigrants (parents or not) being held to the same policy as U.S. citizens of being temporarily separated from those who are under 18 years old during criminal processing, and genocidal ethnic cleansing. He even compared border officers escorting people to showers to Nazi officers marching Jews into gas chambers.
Former CIA chief Michael Hayden posted photos of the Auschwitz death camp, likening it to the temporary housings by the border, which even the most anti-Trump news network found kids with full bellies, watching soccer, playing video games on big flat-screen TVs, sleeping in comfy beds and participating in tai chi classes, rather than ya know, being caged, gassed or worked to death.
According to Godwin, reference to Nazis is used as a conversation stopper, a propagated idea injected into public discourse in order to transform thought patterns in conversation. Godwin proposed his law in 1994 as a counter to this manipulation of discourse to get people to stop overusing references to Hitler and Nazis and start talking about the real issues. Godwin explained later in 2013 during a New York Magazine interview that the whole purpose of his “law” was to prevent lazy thinking.
“The purpose of it was to label and to implicitly ridicule, in a reductive way, people who fell into these lazy, glib comparisons. It’s a way of tagging and thinking about stuff and recognizing a phenomenon that signifies, in most cases, some lazy thinking. So it’s not the case that the comparison is never valid. It’s just that, when you make the comparison, think through what you’re saying, because there’s a lot of baggage there, and if you’re going to invoke a historical period with that much baggage you better be ready to carry it.”
Despite him today joining and towing the only socially acceptable party line after what happened in Charlottesville in order for his work to avoid being called alt-right or a Nazi himself, the lesson behind his original statement stands. The biggest problem with calling everyone you disagree with a Nazi is the intention there to regulate speech. It instantly cuts off our capacity to talk to one another and think freely. Today we’re being forced to choose whether we “sympathize” with Nazis or everyone we don’t like are Nazis, and our beliefs, ideas and the way we think must reflect this fabricated and completely unnecessary social divide.
Let’s stop suppressing opposing thought and speech with dumb comparisons to Nazis and Hitler. The same goes for "bigot” and “racist.” Sometimes those terms will fit, but most of the time they’re used by politically motivated enforcers in order to shut down thought and promote a one-size-fits-all counter against ideas every time they have no better argument. We should be aiming to build a culture of free thinkers with a strong grip on reality, who don’t have to trivialize the most catastrophic event in world history to discredit opposing opinion, where facts and thought-out ideas win debates, not calling each other names.

Trump asks why US can’t use nukes: MSNBC
Donald Trump asked a foreign policy expert advising him why the U.S. can’t use nuclear weapons, MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough said on the air Wednesday, citing an unnamed source who claimed he had spoken with the GOP presidential nominee.
“Several months ago, a foreign policy expert on the international level went to advise Donald Trump. And three times [Trump] asked about the use of nuclear weapons. Three times he asked at one point if we had them why can’t we use them,” Scarborough said on his “Morning Joe” program.
Scarborough made the Trump comments 52 seconds into an interview with former Director of Central Intelligence and ex-National Security Agency Director Michael Hayden.
Scarborough then asked a hypothetical question to Hayden about how quickly nuclear weapons could be deployed if a president were to give approval.
“It’s scenario dependent, but the system is designed for speed and decisiveness. It’s not designed to debate the decision,” Hayden said.
Hayden was CIA director from 2006 to 2009 during the George W. Bush presidency. He was the National Security Agency director from 1999 to 2005, spanning the presidencies of Bill Clinton and George W. Bush.

Ex-CIA director on wiretap claim: Trump apparently ‘forgot that he was president’
yahoo
As Washington continues to reel from President Trump’s evidence-free assertion that his phones were wiretapped by former President Barack Obama before the election, former Central Intelligence Agency Director Michael Hayden says it seems Trump forgot something during his weekend Twitter flurry.
“It looks as if the president just for a moment forgot that he was president,” Hayden said on Fox News on Monday. “Why didn’t he simply use the powers of the presidency to ask the acting director of national intelligence, the head of the FBI to confirm or deny the story he apparently read from Breitbart, the evening before?”
Hayden, a critic of Trump during the campaign, has served in national security roles in both Democratic and Republican administrations. In addition to the top job at the CIA, he has served as director of the National Security Agency and principal deputy director of national intelligence.
On Saturday morning, Trump unleashed a series of tweets claiming Obama had wiretapped the phones at Trump Tower prior to the 2016 election. Trump provided no citations to back up the claim, and a spokesman for the former president branded the accusation “simply false.”
Related: Without evidence, Trump accuses Obama of wiretapping Trump Tower
“Terrible! Just found out that Obama had my ‘wires tapped’ in Trump Tower just before the victory. Nothing found. This is McCarthyism!” he declared from his Mar-a-Lago resort in West Palm Beach, Fla., where Trump spent the weekend.
“Is it legal for a sitting President to be ‘wire tapping’ a race for president prior to an election? Turned down by court earlier. A NEW LOW!” he added.
It wasn’t clear what, exactly, Trump was referring to as he raged against his predecessor, whom he labeled a “bad (or sick) guy!” And the White House did not clarify from whom Trump had “just learned” this new information.
But a report published Friday by right-wing Breitbart News quoted conservative radio host Mark Levin, who outlined the alleged steps the Obama took “in its last months to undermine Donald Trump’s presidential campaign and, later, his new administration.” The Washington Post reported that the Breitbart article had been passed around in the White House ahead of Trump’s tweets.
Steve Bannon, Trump’s chief strategist in the White House, is a former chief executive of Breitbart.
yahoo
White House press secretary Sean Spicer issued a subsequent statement on Sunday saying that “reports concerning potentially politically motivated investigations immediately ahead of the 2016 election are very troubling,” and that Trump is asking Congress to investigate.
“President Donald J. Trump is requesting that as part of their investigation into Russian activity, the congressional intelligence committees exercise their oversight authority to determine whether executive branch investigative powers were abused in 2016,” the statement read. “Neither the White House nor the President will comment further until such oversight is conducted.”
On NBC’s “Meet the Press,” former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper categorically denied any suggestion that communications at Trump Tower were wiretapped before the election.
“There was no such wiretap activity mounted against the president-elect at the time, as a candidate, or against his campaign,” Clapper said.
When asked by host Chuck Todd whether he could confirm or deny if a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court Act order (or FISA) for such wiretapping existed, Clapper declared, “I can deny it.”
Also read: Trump’s evidence-free wiretap allegation dominates Sunday talk shows
And according to the New York Times, FBI Director James Comey asked the Justice Department to publicly reject Trump’s assertion.
“Comey has argued that the highly charged claim is false and must be corrected,” the paper said Sunday, citing “senior American officials” as its source.
Hayden said it’s absurd to think Obama would have been involved in ordering surveillance on Trump Tower.
“After the mid 1970s the authority was taken away from the president,” he said. “The only way you get there, if you get there at all, is [through] a judge. He has to have probable cause.”
The judge, Hayden explained, could then issue a warrant to the FBI under the Federal Intelligence Surveillance Act, or FISA.
Hayden also said it would be “unprecedented” for such an order to be released to the public, but then again, stranger things have already happened under President Trump.
“We’re off the map here,” Hayden said. “We are in unprecedented territory as well. So perhaps at some point in order to set the record straight we may do something unusual.”
On MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” the former spy chief said he believes Trump’s tweeted wiretapping claim was strategic.
“He’s trying to detract attention from what was a very, very bad news cycle,” Hayden said. “The president of the United States put his reputation, the reputation of his predecessor, and the reputation of this nation at risk to get at least a ‘draw’ out of the next 24 hours.”
But host Joe Scarborough isn’t convinced there’s a method to Trump’s Twitter madness.
His tweets this weekend suggest the president is not crazy like a fox. Just crazy.
— Joe Scarborough (@JoeNBC) March 5, 2017
Trump's tweets are not an attempt to deflect. They are a product of having no impulse control.
— Joe Scarborough (@JoeNBC) March 6, 2017
“His tweets this weekend suggest the president is not crazy like a fox. Just crazy,” Scarborough tweeted.
“Trump’s tweets are not an attempt to deflect,” he added. “They are a product of having no impulse control.”
