Day 24, Waiting for Santa with Hayato

FANDOM: Jojo's Bizarre Adventure

Note(s): So I actually received this as an ask but saw that I didn’t have the oneshot done for this day so I decided to go ahead and make this the oneshot because it’s super cute and I had so much fun writing this.

"Santa isn't real," Hayato huffed as you sat with him on the ground, in front of the fireplace at your house. You just gave him a look and flicked his forehead. "Hey!"

"Santa is real, thank you very much," you replied. Hayato rolled his eyes at you, causing you to flick him again.

"You're going to get coal if you keep doing that!"

Hayato had been having a real hard time lately especially with the holidays coming up. Mom also hasn't been doing great, which has led a lot to Hayato's mood. You've done what you could to ease the burden for both of them, but at times it was difficult getting through.

So you decided to sit Hayato in front of the fireplace. You'd call in some favors and wanted him to have a good holiday despite all the crap that has been happening lately.

"So what do you want for Christmas?" You ask him, even though you already knew what he wanted. He's been eyeing a toy that has been commercialized to hell and back as this season's greatest hit with kids.

Hayato was silent for a bit before giving a sigh. "I want mom to be happy." That wasn't quite the answer you expected. You weren't surprised he said that, but you were hoping your question would keep his mind off of that.

"She will be. So will you. It just takes a bit of time," you told him and he gave a frown at that. "You're still a kid, Hayato. You should enjoy your childhood."

"Easy for you to say," he muttered causing you to frown now. You wanted to say something else but instead he let out another sigh. "Sorry. I know you're doing this to make me happy and I'm ruining the mood."

"No you're not." You wanted to say more but there was some exclamations that you both heard from the chimney. Hayato and you both froze as someone fell down the chimney and into the fireplace.

"Son of a--"

"Look Hayato! Santa!" You exclaimed as you jumped to your feet, quickly cutting off the not-Josuke from letting a string of curses loose. Hayato just continued to stare in disbelief as Josuke froze before jumping up, smacking his stu- amazing hair on the top of the fireplace.

"Merry Christmas!" He said in a very awful impersonation. You face palmed as he went to grab something only to make a face and yell up the chimney. "Drop the bag, idiot!" A red bag fell down and Jo- Santa caught it before it fell and possibly broke the present inside.

"Are you kidding me?" Hayato questioned as he looked at you in disbelief. You just kept a smile on your face as Josuke cleared his throat.

"Merry Christmas!" He exclaimed yet again and reached in the bag to pull out the present. Hayato took it and just gave you a look again.

"Merry Christmas?" You questioned and Hayato continued to just give you a disbelieving look before laughter came from his lips. That laughter continued until he was just cracking up. You and Josuke both let out sighs of relief as you looked to him, mouthing a 'thank you'. He just gave a thumbs up before Hayato calmed down.

"This is ridiculous." Judging by the smile on Hayato's face, he didn't seem to mind at all. Instead he unwrapped the gift and his face brightened up as he saw the toy before looking to you. "Did you really do all of this for me?"

"What, pff no, Santa just--" You were running out of an excuse and looked to Josuke.

"Uh this was next on the list, ho ho ho?" You resisted the urge to facepalm again. "Right, well, got to go. Need to get to the next house!" Josuke turned back to the chimney before looking to you.

"Front door's that way." He gave a nod as he left and Hayato looked to you with a smile.

"Thank you." You couldn't help the smile on your own face with seeing Hayato's. "But you don't need to do all that for me."

"You should enjoy your childhood," you repeated your earlier phrase. Hayato just pulled you into a hug, one you gladly returned. The two of you stayed up as Hayato showed off his toy to you. You both ended up falling asleep in front of the fireplace.

When you woke up the next morning, there was even more presents waiting and a smile on your mother's face.

💚 Being an only child, Hayato thought he was ok being on his own but when he met you he quickly realized you were like an older sibling figure to him. He was a bit shy to admit this to you... He was a bit worried you might find it strange.

💚 You actually found out Hayato saw you this way when he accidentally called you big sis/bro and ended up blushing because he was so embarrassed. He secretly hoped you didn’t hear him, but was relieved when you called him ‘your little bro’ in return!

💚 After being more open about seeing you as a sibling figure, he’s quite a ‘clingy’ type of a little brother, he tries not to annoy you too much but he always wants to be by your side. He’s very affectionate and gives you plenty of hugs and enjoys to write and draw you things to remind you how special you are to him! 

💚He’s very open to talking to you about almost anything, you’re the only person he feels like he can trust with all of his secrets / concerns.  💚 He enjoys trying to get into the hobbies / movies / shows / games you enjoy and also tries to introduce you to the hobbies he likes too! He really likes to build model kits with you, it’s one of his favorite ways to spend time with you.

Unfortunately it's because of this post I've realized; I can't write headcanons, so I hope you'll take these minifics as compensation.

I had fun writing these! Emporio's story is a bit short for my liking, though, I put most of my energy into the Hayato bit because there's almost nothing for this poor boy, except like one other book on AO3 :/

A Little Bit Off

Warnings: Hayato is a little sad, or like a lot sad :( but Reader is here to try and cheer him up!

He was eating alone outside of school again. When he was alone he always had a distant look in his eyes while he lost himself in thoughts and absentmindedly nibbling at his onigiri. Hayato didn't have many friends. Or any, really. There was that other group of teens your age that seemed fond of him, but you didn't get to see them much. They only came around, maybe once every other week to walk him home. But until then Hayato was stuck alone eating cold rice balls by himself.

You threw away your disposable gloves, set your broom aside and made it over to the kid. Your footfalls snapped him out of his daydreams and he looked up at you expectantly. This was pretty normal between you two. You'd find him by himself around school, and you'd invite yourself into his bubble to try and help him out of his stupor. Most of the time it worked. You didn't like thinking about the other times.

"Tough day?" You asked already knowing the answer in his auburn eyes. He didn't answer immediately. Most of the time it took him a moment to find the right words. That was okay. You invited yourself to sit next to him, "I get it, you don't need to answer. Hey, how's that onigiri?"

"It's okay."

That's your Hayato, as stoic as always. But... He seemed off today. This was his first time back at school ever since he took a week off for unknown reasons. You were worried sick for the young boy but refrained from doting and questioning him. He was quieter than ever, so distant even from the teachers.

No, you shouldn't think like that now.

Just keep your cool, try to... See if you can break his shell?

You took a deep breath after shaking your head, then offered him a smirk. "Hey, Hayato-chan, I got something you might like~"

That got his attention.

He took his teeth off of his half eaten rice ball and gave his gaze to you. Your own eyes darted down left to right to make sure no one was around before your hand snuck into the breast pocket of your school blouse and took out... Two lollipops, one blue raspberry and the other red cherry.

Even if he had the maturity of someone your own age or older, no kid could pass up candy, you could see his eyes light up at the bright treats, seeing it made you grin wider.

"You can have first picks, just don't tell anyone, 'kay?"

The kid hesitated a little before he chose the blue sucker. The onigiri was left forgotten in exchange for the sweet treat. You began to unwrap your own candy, and chowed down in comfortable silence.

The sun started hanging behind the taller buildings, painting you and the kid besides you in orange light.

"Hey, Hayato-chan..." You were halfway done with your sucker now when you started speaking out again. Hayato had long since finished his. He had thrown his used stick into a nearby garbage can after giving you a short thank you for the sweet.

"Being a kid. It doesn't really mean that you get life any easier, y'know what I mean? Like, just because your half the age of your teacher or that business man across the street, it doesn't mean you have it any better than he or she does!"

Your mouth popped off of your lollipop. You had sucked at it and bit it into a crescent shape, "What I'm tryin' to get at is... Everyone needs to vent out their problems every once in a while, and you shouldn't feel bad or ashamed to ask for help. I understand you're not the type to just let out your problems. But if you ever decide it's too much, I don't mind helping you carry the load." You tried to give him what you hopped was a comforting smile and a pat on his shoulder. Hayato tried to twist away from you but it was too late, you already saw the telling signs of a soft blush hitting his cheeks and the tears welling in his eyes. Claws wrapped around your heart and all you wanted to do was hold this poor boy close. You guessed a soft rub between his shoulders was better than nothing, though.

"Thank you." The brunette boy sniffed. "Onee-san... w-would you mind walking me home? It's getting late."

You gave him a warm smile and hopped off the bench, discarding the rest of your sucker. His smaller hand fit almost perfectly in yours as you walked him off the school grounds. He seemed a bit better, his eyes weren't downcast anymore and had rid of his sad aura, and seeing that only seemed to make your ending day a little brighter.

Thank You (for Sending Me an Angel)

Warnings: just talk of patching up wounds, nothing major

Emporio whimpered out feebly once the cleaning solution met his open cut. He squeezed tight onto your left hand while your other steadily cleaned out his last wound, trying your very best to not hurt him too much. Soft words of "just a little more," and "almost done!" left your lips while you tried to ignore his pained cries.

"There, all done! You did so good Emporio!" You kissed just around his cut for added love and you finally put on the bandage.

The boy kicked his leg back and forth on the piano bench, testing out his newly patched leg, before wiping away his soft tears and looking up at you. "Thank you for fixing me up, I really appreciate it." He gave you a bright smile.

"It's no worries, kid. Someone's gotta patch y'all up when it gets too crazy." You grabbed his hat from the bench and ruffled it back on to his head, causing him to let out some giggles. "But listen, you're just a kid, Emporio. I get you're not really like most children your age, what with..." You froze, and ended up gesturing broadly to the music room. "But you're not made of diamonds, kid. You gotta be a little more careful, don't charge into fights by yourself again, okay? I don't like seeing you hurt."

Emporio nodded silently, a little pouty that he upset you, but he didn't say anything about it. "I understand. I'm sorry for making you worry."

"It's okay Emporio. I'm glad your in one piece."

He sat there for a second thinking. You were going to question what was up until he bounced off the bench and quickly wrapped his arms around you in a tight squeeze around your midsection. The hug forced you silent, you never expected for him to just suddenly hug you like this! Emporio's face was buried into your body, almost shyly not meeting your face while he spoke. "Really, thank you, Sis. I'm glad such a nice person like you wants to hang out with me." His fists balled up in your shirt. His declaration set a fire under your heart. You couldn't fight the loud awe of love that made its way from your lips as you kneeled down to scoop the small boy into a tight hug. "Oh, Emporio, you are just the sweetest!" A happy kiss was added to his cheek sending him into another fit of laughter. "Like a little angel sent my way. By the way angel, it's almost lunch time, why don't I sneak us some food?"

"You can do that?" His wide golden eyes only seemed to get bigger. "I'd do anything for my little bro. Be back in a second, okay? And if Anasui decides to come out of hiding, you tell him I'm still ready to kick his butt for bringing you into trouble."
