Then can I request a kylian fic where the reader is Jude and jobe Bellingham’s older sister and she is about 20/21 yo and she gets sm dms from different players, basketball players singer etc etc.. but then she gets a dm from kylian ( and kylian is her celeb crush) so she is over the moon then her brothers find out and become so overprotective over her.
Thank you for reading this long request bbs
❤️❤️❤️
Celebrity crush (Kylian Mbappe x Reader)
Tumblr media
Warnings: none really, just celebs flirting with you and being kind of suggestive I guess
Masterlist
Pt 2 Pt 3 Pt 4 Pt 5
"Hey, Jude, care to tell me what your friend is doing on my dms?"
That definitely catches your brother's attention, walking over and taking the phone from your hand, his eyes widen when he sees Haaland react to your story with heart eyes, fires and a: looking good, Bellingham
"What an asshole" your brother says, scrolling up to see more messages like that from his friend "Any other friend of mine over your dms?"
You see your brother's intention of checking out more messages, you stand up, taking the phone off his hand, making him and Jobe -sitting on the couch, previously distracted, but now with a watchful eye staring at you-surprised.
Jude raises an eyebrow "What was that about?"
You give him a nervous smile "What was what about?"
"Taking the phone off his hand" Jobe says "What are you hiding?"
"Nothing, just don't want my little brother going through my dms"
"Do you have a boyfriend that you don't want us to know about?" Jude asks, his arms crossed, imitating your father whenever he saw you with some boy.
"And where did you get that from?"
"I don't know, you have been pretty cheery recently, not as annoying, and know are hiding something on your phone"
"You really want to see who else dms me?"
"I surely want to know if you are -Jobe cover your ears- hooking up with any of my teammates"
"I know what hooking up is...."
"Seriously, Jude? Fine, here, take it, I don't think you will find any of your friends there, but who knows?"
Honestly, Jude was kind of joking when he made his drama queen act about the dms, but he is not about to miss the chance of seeing who messages his dear sister.
Pedri González: coming any time soon to Barcelona? I can show you around the city and some real fun
Jamal Musiala: looking great, makes me want to show you who the best team of the Bundesliga really is
Harry Styles: wanna come to my next concert? Then we can find something better to do
Hero Fiennes Tiffin
Jude doesn't have time to read what that one said as his eyes go to the next name, he has that look that says: bullocks.
"You can't be serious, Kylian Mbappe?" he shouts, Jobe is instantly next to him watching your screen, your cheeks red.
Your brothers are speechless as they scroll over months of conversations in between you and who they know to be your celebrity crush, unbelieving when they see it was Kylian -or, Kyky as you call him-was the first to reach out to you, reacting to some story of yours of you tanning on the beach.
The man has invited you to France and all, and even offered to be the one to come and see you, doesn't matter if you are in Germany or England, he says he wants to see you.
"I can't believe it..." Jude sighs, Jobe nods.
"And you didn't tell us!"
"Because just look how crazy you are now. Besides, it's nothing serious, we are just friends"
"Yeah, right, that's why he constantly ssays you are hot and is desperate to see you"
"We are friends"
"You still should have told us!" the younger of the two says.
Jude is still for a second, seemingly deep in thought -you refrain from commenting how your never thought him to be one capable of thinking- he opens the camera, pointing at him and Jobe, whispers something at the younger one, you are confused, but refrain from saying anything as you see him press record.
"Hello Kylian, I am Jude, this is Jobe, but you must already know that judging by how much you seem to talk to my sister. You see, this video is just a warning to be very careful on whatever match we see each other next in, because I will be going after you. What on Earth is this about flirting with a maybe-future teammate's sister. Not cool at all, right Jobe? "
"Yeah! Not cool! At all!" you can't help but snort.
"So, yeah, just sleep with an open eye, and also, forget about my sister, she is too good for you even if she is pretty annoying"
"What? I am not annoying!"
"Yes you are, now shut up, I am not done yet" Jude turns again to the camera "Or you can continue talking to her and see what happens. Anyways, now I am finished, see ya around, Kyky"
They send the video, looking pretty proud of themselves.
Kylian opens your message as soon as it arrives as he always does, Jude and Jobe expectant for his reaction.
A couple of minutes later, a video from him arrives too, your brothers opening it without delay.
"Hello, Jude, Jobe, of course I know who you are, because you are right, I spend day and night talking with your sister and I don't intend to stop. I am pretty exited for what you will supposedly be doing next time we see each other Jude, I am sure you have some tricks up your sleeve - so do I, by the way. Really hoping we do end up as predicted on the same team, to see the look on your face when y/n uses my number instead of yours. Also, tell your sister to call me later, and don't be surprised when she travels to Paris on the next couple of weeks, she will be with me, my treat. Take care care you two, and give the phone back to your sister, I have something to show her"
Your brothers are speechless, and you, can't hp but laugh, taking your phone you start walking off, but turn to them "Oh, yeah, I will be asking you later for some tips about what to wear to Paris. I want to look my best, you know?"
You laugh at their expressions, a gentle smile taking over your face when a text from the man himself arrives, this time for you.
Your brothers are pretty funny, love, but we will also have to make sure to fill up the internet with photos about us when you come to me. Just as a payback.

If your taking requests can you write a cute and fluffy fic with Erling please xx
yay! this is set post champions league!
erling haaland x reader
Tumblr media
my champion
you couldn’t wait to celebrate manchester city’s victory over inter when they won the champions league. you were so proud of erling and the whole team for achieving this amazing goal.
city literally won everything this year and your heart was full of joy, especially knowing how much this meant for erling.
of course you let him celebrate the victory with his teammates and family, as he got drunk and went partying. it was honestly amusing seeing him like that. he’s usually calm and composed that seeing him so waisted made you laugh.
and even though he loved partying with his friends and family, he couldn’t wait to celebrate with you.
once you were back at the hotel, erling couldn’t keep his hands off of you.
“erling!” you laughed “stop it…”
his hands were tickling the sides of your waist as he left love bites all over your neck.
“i’m so happy” he said half drunk.
“yes, i can tell” you joked.
he showed you the gold medal and he put it over your neck like it was a classic necklace.
“it suits you” he smiled and you blushed. the way he was looking at you, full of love and passion. he loved you and you were sure of it.
“my champion…” you said “it sounds pretty good” you smiled again.
“your champion” he sat down on the bed and took you with him “this season was crazy” he started thinking how incredibly well this season went.
“you made it incredible…” you whispered and he looked at you smiling.
“well, i had the best support, you were always by my side, every watch you were there cheering for me and i can’t thank you enough for this…i love you so much y/n, i really love you so much” he said while his lips went on yours. the kiss was soft, tender, full of love.
“supporting you it’s the least i could do for you…you’ve always been here for me, i love you too erling” you kissed him again while he helped you laying on the bed.
you’ve spent the night between each other’s arms, tv playing in background as you stayed awake, remembering all the good memories you two shared in all these past years.

The finals of Champions League drove me crazy. I was on edge the whole second half.
Can you please do one where F1 reader who is dating either Jack or Haaland came to finals to support him and the cameras show her reactions and at the end crying while hugging him and saying how she's proud. All fans loving them and she gets teased about it on next GP because she was not that emotional even when she lost her championship
Of course you weren’t going to miss the biggest game of his career, you wore his jersey that he gave to you. You say with his family, holding his mums hand throughout of the game as you couldn’t take the tension. The cameras catch your reactions, how you hand your head in your hands as you watch Inter close chances and you in celebration when Rodri scored. Fans all tweeting your reaction as they say they were in the same boat as you. The final whistle goes and City fans all erupt into cheers, you get lifted down to the pitch and run over to your boyfriend. He grabs you and spins you around. The camera on the two of you as you were crying and telling him how proud you were of him. He puts the winners medal over your head, you kissing it. He holds you as your emotions both boiled over. The next F1 race comes around and while you were doing your press, it gets mentioned. ‘I’ve not seen you so emotional’ Alex laughs. You shake your head as you start to get emotional again. The other drivers all laughing that you didn’t get that emotional when you lost the championship last season.

What??? Spanish media Are not celebrating Rodri
Would be crazy if they didn’t. He played fantastic in the final and that goal against Bayern 🤌🏼
Spanish media only talk about City to say Pep is a gift from God (Barcelona press and literal quote, not an exaggeration) or to say Pep is the antichrist (Madrid press).
The international football experts and programmes obviously cover more topics. But I've only seen one talking about how he was covering the evolution of Rodri's career on his podcast. And sure, it's a fairly big podcast but for a very niche topic. It doesn't have millions listening to it.
On the last international break, a radio programme interviewed Rodri and half of the questions were about Haaland maybe signing for Madrid. That's the level.

endless love - erling haaland and jadon sancho fanfic
Epilogue - Forever my Always
Erling couldn’t believe he was sat here, he turned his head to the side seeing her casket. It had been four weeks since she had passed, four weeks and ten days since his heart broke into a million pieces. He looked around and saw all of Grace’s friends and family, he caught eye contact with Christopher; even though the two didn’t get on, they had bonded over the last few weeks, he knew how much she loved her brother.
“Grace was not only my sister, but also my best friend,” Christopher sobbed. “I know she meant a lot to every single one of you. But she wouldn’t want us to be sad, she would want us to celebrate her. I wasn’t sure if I was going to open this, if I was ready but I don’t have any words of my own right now. I’m sure we’d all love to hear from her.”
To my loved ones,
If you are reading this then it must be true, I am gone but don’t be sad because I am not. Celebrate our happier times, celebrate our memories, celebrate my life. I wish I could be there to help you out, but unfortunately that isn’t possible. I hope it gets easier for you, I hope you can start smiling and laughing again, you know it’s what I would want. I hope you think of me in happiness, I hope I help you through the bad times. I have loved every minute I spent with each and every one of you.
To Mum and Dad,
There are not enough words to describe what you meant to me, I couldn’t have asked for two better people to call my parents. I hope I made you proud, I hope I made you laugh (like proper belly laugh), I know I definitely made you cry a few times. There is no imagination of what I would have been without you. Mum, I want you to keep smiling, it was always my favourite feature about you. Dad, please listen to Mum, she means well. In the end, I just want to say a massive thank you.
To Alife and Julie,
There is nothing that I can do to repay you for what you have done for me, you have both made me the person I am today. I’ll miss the family fun nights, those always were my favourite. Julie, you welcomed me into your family with open arms and for that I am grateful. Alfie, please don’t stop sharing your awful jokes, they really did make me laugh. And to both of you, if I had one last wish, it would be that you would please look after Erling. He has a wonderful heart, I hope he can recover and show just how amazing he is.
To Ella,
You must have a hell of a lot of patience to be dealing with Jadon every day. I hope you two last, I haven’t seen him smile that goofy grin in a long time. I would give you some tips for Jadon, but I already see you don’t need any, I know you have him figured out. If there is a reason and I don’t get to see it, I hope he goes all out when he proposes, I’m sure I’ve given him enough ideas by now. All I can say is thank you, thank you for accepting me, thank you for being friends with me.
To Jadon,
This is for you. The you that’s had a rough week, the you that seems to be under constant pressure, the you that feels invisible, the you that always blames yourself for everything that goes wrong. To you. You are incredible. You make this world a little bit more wonderful. You have so much potential and many things left to do. You have time. Better things are coming your way, so please hang in there. You can do it. Keep loving Ella, she's madly in love with you (she told me not to tell you so shush) but mainly, please don’t stop daydreaming. It’s not normal if you’re not caught, at least once, staring at the clouds.
To Christopher,
I’m so thankful I had a brother like you to count on, I loved that you were always there with open arms when I needed a hug and an open mind when I needed someone to understand. I’m so glad that I could be myself around you, you know my qualities and my faults and you love me just the same. I’m so proud to have a brother like you, not just for what you have accomplished but for who you are. I’m so lucky to have you to talk and laugh with and to reminisce and make new memories with. I can’t tell you how much you mean to me, you are one of the most important people in my life. I love you, thank you for being my brother and my best friend.
And one last thing, the most important thing I wanted to say, to Erling, thank you, I’ve loved you since the beginning, I’ll love you forever. Just remember that even though I won’t physically be there, I’m always in your heart. I’ve always been more comfortable showing how I feel then writing how I feel, there is no way that I can articulate what you meant to me since that moment we first saw each other or the joy you’ve brought me every day since. I hope we have a long and happy life together, but even if we don’t I want you to know that you meant everything to me. I’m so glad I found you, you have been the greatest gift of my life. The more I write, the more I find the reasons why you are the love of my life. Thank you for making me smile like crazy, thank you for making me happy, thank you for loving me. How could I ever fall in love with someone else? You have always had my heart and you will always have my heart. Please don’t be sad, I’m still here. You will forever be my always.
Thank you everyone, I’ll see you all real soon.
Yours forever, Grace.
a.n: and it’s done!!! wow this chapter broke my heart. thank you everyone for reading xxx

Talking Tickets--22 May 2020! Bundesliga! Revenue! Rocking At The Drive-In! More!
Hey!
Thanks for being here again this week. If you are enjoying this newsletter, tell your friends and colleagues to sign up by visiting this link.
Heading into the long weekend in the States, if that really even matters right now…here’s a video that came my way of The National performing a set around the time of their album, High Violet, which is excellent. I’m guessing that they won’t be playing their show at Wolf Trap, but if something changes…I’m there.
I had a chance to participate during Eric Fuller’s Rescue Meet on Tuesday along with Anthony Esposito and a few others from different areas of the industry. You can watch the replay here.
Don’t forget Happy Hour with me and Ken Troupe this afternoon. Ken has fixed the technology and we can definitely have more than 6 people or whatever crazy number kept getting folks bounced that one week.
To the tickets!
————————————————————————————————-
1. Events Are Starting To Come Back With Drive-Ins and Social Distancing:
In the span of a few moments, we went from having the first social distance concert to having it postponed, to having it back on again. Then we had a drive-in show with 600 cars!
While all of this is positive, the cluster developing at Bryant Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa shows that we still have to be cautious with our expectations and with the speed of being able to bring events back online and things back to normal.
Casinos in Las Vegas and Mississippi are going to be coming back soon. These aren’t live events, but I do think they will provide us an opportunity to learn about what safe openings and safe gatherings will look like or can look like.
The same can be said for the opening of museums, parks, and other places where folks gather to see art, hangout, and commune. Though I do wonder how marathons and big races are going to manage to come back in the near term…if you’ve never run the NYC marathon or seen it, social distancing is tough.
Th0ugh if you’ve never run the NYC marathon, put that on your bucket list.
All of this highlights the need to continue to watch what other countries are doing, try to learn best practices and to be cautious but creative like these mixed events in Norway.
2. We will come back, but what will that look like?
If the coronavirus has taught us anything in the States is that if you don’t have a lobbyist, you don’t have much of a chance of anything.
So far, live entertainment has been hurt about as much as any industry and we don’t have anything to show for it. Regular folks, are in the same boat for the most part. Maybe we should all go into banking or lobbying…
I did do some nerd reading this week and found an interesting piece about neoliberal economic policy and the coronavirus that put a few ideas into my head that I think we can all learn from in this crisis:
* The ideas lying around are important. * What is feasible and likely can change pretty quickly. * Ultimately, ideas change the world.
For all of us, this means a few important things…
* First, push our ideas of helping live entertainment recover. Countries around the world have varying plans for doing just that. In America, we definitely need to continue to push that agenda. My neighbor is a lobbyist and he’s explained the dark arts to me and I’ve worked on a presidential campaign, so I understand how ridiculous the whole process can seem and feel from the outside…and it is, just the people in the middle of it can’t let their own self-importance get in the way of recognizing how ridiculous it is.
* No idea is a crazy idea. You need crazy ideas to come up with workable solutions…look at the stuff above with drive-ins and social distance concerts.
* Show up and do the work. I’ve been talking about change, innovation, and evolution for my entire career…this stuff doesn’t come easy and it doesn’t come fast, but to give up now in the face of the need for innovation is just crazy. The industry needs everyone to be smarter, more thoughtful, and more creative.
I’ll cover economic models and ideas in point 5.
3. Football, Futbol, Soccer Saves Us?!
Have you picked your Bundesliga team yet?
I’m still sticking with Bayern Munich because of their connection to Oktoberfest and beer!
Did y’all get a chance to catch any of the action from Germany over the weekend? I liked Haaland’s socially distanced goal celebration, but I have to say it was still weird watching football without fans.
On top of the Bundesliga, we also are going to see the return of the Liga FPD as well. (That’s the Costa Rican soccer league.) (ESPN will be showing their games.) (My team is Limon FC…I’ll explain over drinks sometime.)
The French league has already declared Paris Saint-Germain winners, but most of the other leagues around the world are attempting to finish their seasons with the Champions League looking to finish by August.
In the Premier League, we are seeing a lot of caution.
But it will be great to see the EPL return since all of Spurs injured players are back…but we all long for the return of home-field advantage.
In South Korea, there was a little story that likely gives folks a bit to think about with “unique” partnerships!?
And, if the Grand Final can have fans, I’m hoping that I can be there.
A couple things here:
* I’m glad to have sports back to watch. * Keep paying attention to what is working and what isn’t. * Constantly ask yourself what you are learning from all of these experiences and these events so that you come out of this stronger than before.
4. Arts Have Always Come Back, Yeah!
I’ve been saying it for months now, people will come back eventually. To think otherwise is to laugh in the face of thousands of years of recorded history.
The challenge in the short term is what will this coming back look like, how quickly will folks feel comfortable, how many financial challenges will we be dealing with, and whether or not we get the marketing challenge correct.
This virus and the financial conditions created by the shutdown of economies around the world have created the most challenging environment for the arts and entertainment in any of our lifetimes, true fact. But the virus and the financial crisis has also highlighted a lot of bad business practices, poor business models, and the need for more innovative thinking any many places.
The challenges that everyone are dealing with aren’t unique to one area of the industry. I mean, movie theatres, musuems, and bars are feeling the pinch as well. Everyone is in the entertainment and hospitality industry.
In speaking at Eric Fuller’s Rescue Meet event this week, I come back to a couple of ideas that seem to sum up where my thinking is this week:
* Creativity and innovation need to be at the front of everyone’s thinking. * Cooperation is going to be key to being successful going forward. * There won’t be a one-size-fits-all plan or approach to coming out of this. And, we have to recognize that earlier rather than later.
5. The Way To Generate Revenue Is Going To Need Some Attention:
I’m doing a webinar on Tuesday, 26 May with Frederic Aouad from Stay 22 on revenue and creating revenue opportunities now.
Two sessions: 9 AM EDT and 2 PM EDT. We wanted to give folks a chance to join if they were in markets outside of the US or mainland Europe.
The genesis of the idea came out of someone grabbing my notes off the stand at INTIX in Dallas and how I had to come up with a presentation on revenue on the fly.
Revenue numbers have been in the news a lot the last few weeks as we saw Adam Silver talk about how about 40% of the NBA’s money comes from fans going to games. This week, we saw MLB’s owners share that playing games without fans will cost about $640,000 in losses per game!
I’d always thought the NFL had a little less reliance on in-game revenue, but a report this week put the number at around 38%.
For minor league sports, the threat is even more severe.
So we see that tons of money is still tied up in getting people to get into the games when they are played.
Which really begs a serious question: if getting fans into the stadium is so important, why has the sales and marketing models of the teams in the States been stagnant for so long?
The hard truth is that in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and many other markets, the creativity to capture more of their fan base has existed for a lot of time and we have to get on-board. I had David Fowler on my podcast before the lockdowns started, but he appeared on Richard Clarke’s podcast this week and talked about his ideas in the context of the coronavirus and I think listening to these guys can be useful. David’s big three are content, creativity, and community.
This all comes up in light of the need to rethink where the money comes in from, this week Kirk Wakefield wrote up a piece about how little folks actually notice sponsors during games. Which was paired with the idea that MLB teams might cover seats with sponsored tarps to help recapture some revenue from not having fans in the ballpark.
And, don’t even get me started on “impressions”, “likes”, and that sort of thing that is basically meaningless but easy to measure. Even though there have been lawsuits about the accuracy of a lot of these social web measurements.
Revenue going forward is going to need a lot of thought, but I’ll offer up three things to consider now:
* The way tickets are marketed and sold needs some serious attention. The folks that have invested in their fans over the years are the exceptions that prove the rule. We all need to rethink marketing and selling practices…which should have been a priority before but when you could just easily raise prices, sell to brokers and consolidators, and fall back on “tickets distributed” as the way you reported attendance…YOLO!
* Investigating where folks are doing things better or where we can learn is going to create a lot of opportunities. What can we all learn from a professional services brand? What can we learn from the school bake sale? A nonprofit? There are millions, or more, examples to learn from.
* I said this in a very pointed way that was likely a bit ruder than I wanted to say it at INTIX in Dallas, but none of us are limited in the way that we make money and generate revenue…we are limited by our creativity and that’s the biggest challenge we are dealing with, limiting our creativity to predetermined ideas and solutions. And, I get it, there are real challenges facing everyone right now, but that should cause everyone to be a lot more creative.
As MJ said, “BREAK!”
—————————————————————————————————————-
What am I up to this week?
Check out my webinar with Frederic and the folks from We Will Recover. I’m working on getting two or three exclusive blog posts and articles up on the We Will Recover site from some of the smarties I know from around the world including a really great piece from my friend, Georgia, down in Sydney.
The podcast is sitting there with over 100 episodes. I’ve been trying to think about what form, if any, it takes going forward and I’ve come up with an idea now that I think will work for me and offer value to all of y’all. I’m going to focus on the future and I’m going to bring in more folks from my work on strategy and marketing that don’t always touch the world of entertainment as a way to introduce more ideas and a different viewpoint.

The love of my life got married and it gave me the closure I needed
It was my sister who told me Ollie* was getting married.
She casually dropped it into a phone call just as she was hanging up and I felt the ice-cold hand of jealousy clutch my heart.
Despite the fact we’d broken up four years ago, Ollie was the person I thought I was going to marry.
We had lived together, proposals had been discussed and future baby plans hinted at. I took it as fact that we would get married because there was no way I’d find anyone more perfect than him.
We split because we rushed things. We moved in together very quickly, I freaked out and feeling overwhelmed, I suggested a ‘break’ (I know, so 2009). Sadly for me, Ollie was more of an all-or-nothing guy.
Emotionally stability resumed, I thought I was OK (Picture: Hana Carter)
In the months afterwards I was a living cliche: I was that woman you see bursting into tears on the tube or at the corner shop, stockpiling ice cream in jogging bottoms, covered in take away stains.
It was the first time I’ve ever felt actual, physical heartbreak. Hopefully it will be the last.
I moved on as best I could. A few short-term boyfriends came and went, I threw myself into my career, got back into my arts and crafts, went out with friends and as the time passed, Ollie slowly began to disappear from my mind. Emotionally stability resumed. I thought I was OK.
However, when the ex-love of your life celebrates a milestone with another person it kicks up a host of emotions. No matter how amicable or right a break up, and no matter how much time has passed since, when your ex officially moves on it feels so… final.
I felt like Gwyneth Paltrow in Sliding Doors, imagining Ollie’s new partner slipping into my shoes and living the life that could have easily been mine.
I imagined his fiancee as beautiful, smiley, talented – and as pathetic as it sounds, I felt inadequate in comparison. I felt left behind.
So, in a display of perfectly healthy behaviour, I stuck my head in the sand in the hope the wedding day would somehow pass without me realising.
I deleted or blocked any of our mutual friends to shield myself from pictures or details and maintained a state of blissful ignorance.
Social media makes it so much harder to move on from someone you used to love. Where once you ran the risk of bumping into your ex at the shop, maybe the pub, I had access to my ex’s life at the click of a button.
There’s still a large part of me that wants to have breakfast in bed or to wander around Christmas markets with someone I really like (Picture: Hana Carter)
And even though I knew – we all know – that social media posts are as carefully selected as pieces of art, it’s hard to dismiss gushing declarations of love or picture-perfect wedding photos as anything but real.
It’s even harder when you’re still single and yet to find your own #couplegoals.
I do my best at being an independent, strong woman and there are aspects to single life that I love – the absolute freedom of it and not having to factor someone else into my life.
But there’s still a large part of me that wants to have breakfast in bed or to wander around Christmas markets with someone I really like.
While Ollie was picking wallpaper samples with what’s-her-face (…probably), I was on my second-hand sofa, legs unshaved, hair in a scraggly pony-tail, swiping my way through the shark-infested water of dating apps.
A week or so after the wedding, a friend was flicking through Facebook, pulling faces and throwing nervous glances my way. Giving in, I thrust my hand towards her, took a glug of wine and said: ‘Come on then, let’s see.’
There was Ollie in his suit, proudly standing stood next to his stunning bride.
Did I throw up all over the floor? No. Did I collapse in a pool of tears or burst into flames? No.
I just saw someone I used to love looking incredibly happy.
In that moment I realised: the idea true love can only exist with one person was completely wrong.
As simple as it seems, seeing those pictures was the closure I needed (Picture: Hana Carter)
We are force fed the notion that there is only one person who can love you unconditionally, and vice versa. But love is a feeling we all carry and a select few people in the world can unlock it, not just one.
Someone once told me that we all have seven soulmates and it’s a matter of luck as to which one you meet first. So when you’re cuddled up with Jack, thinking he’s the one, Ben, Frank, Marco and Sam would have all been just as great – Jack just happened to be in the coffee shop that Wednesday as you ordered your flat white.
I find this theory quite comforting because for a while, Ollie was my ‘one’ – the way he looked at his wife on his wedding day was the way he once looked at me.
She wasn’t better, prettier, or more intelligent than me, and the love they shared wasn’t necessarily stronger, she was simply his ‘next one’ – and there are six other people out there waiting for me.
As simple as it seems, seeing those pictures was the closure I needed.
They removed the rose-tinted glasses and I was reminded of the reasons I wasn’t beside Ollie wearing white.

He never quite mastered the ability to make me really, really laugh. Sometimes he was overshadowed – almost trampled – by my loudness. I also caught myself on several occasions trying to change him – the way he dressed, or his hair – something you should never do to another human being.
I am thankful for Ollie, and for all my exes. They are a part of my love story, and seeing Ollie so crazy about someone else has made me understand that I’ll feel that same fierce love for someone else again one day.
He has helped me to see what I want, which I guess is what many people want in a partner: someone who makes me happy, who I don’t want to run a million miles from and who loves me for the good and the bad.
Until then I’ve just got to be patient… and maybe cut back on the social media stalking.

An early look at the Democrat’s 2020 field
Democrats are salivating for the chance to take on Donald Trump in two years. They had a solid, if a little underwhelming, midterm that saw Democrat control of the U.S. House for the first time in eight years. Nancy Pelosi is measuring the drapes in the Speaker’s office. Finally, Democrats have a bench in the House, with young and fresh candidates like Alexandria Ocasio Cortez, Xochitl Torres Small, Abigail Spanberger, Deb Haaland, etc., fresh off victories in drastically districts waiting in the wings for their chance to shine. On a bigger stage, you have a whole damn lot of Democrats chomping at the bit for their own chance. But it’s also looking like the same clown-car situation the Republicans had in 2016, replete with the factitious wings and the same sort of infighting. But, of course, 2016 ended up in a Republican win. So all I want to do is record my thoughts on how the Democratic field is shaping up, how I think it will turn out, and who will ultimately emerge as their Presidential nominee.
Let’s start with how the Democrats are positioning themselves, or in many cases, how the media is positioning the Democrats. Just like the GOP four years ago (and now), the Democratic Party is facing a battle to define itself. You have the old guard, relative moderates like Pelosi and Schumer, holding the reins of power in Washington and nationally. Those folks think Hillary Clinton only lost because she forgot to visit Michigan, and all it will take to win back the White House is a fellow old guarder like Joe Biden to drop by Lansing a time or two. On the other side, you have the newly-elected wing that firmly believes in the progressive vision they ran on in 2018. They entertain the idea that Bernie Sanders was robbed of the nomination and that he might’ve defeated Trump, but they're not crazy about Bernie this time. Polls suggest that a rolling triumvirate of Biden, Sanders, and Kamala Harris are currently leading, but they remind me of the polls in 2016 saying that Jeb Bush was the nominee-in-waiting. There’s a third wing out there, full of celebrities and businesspeople that see Trump’s shock win and think; “Why not me?”
The old guard wants Biden. It’s obvious why; Biden is well-liked, he’s been around the track a few times, and perhaps most importantly he relates to the blue-collar midwesterners that switched from Obama to Trump. Biden would be an easy, no-drama candidate to get behind. But Biden has drawbacks. He’s an old and white figure in a party that just enthusiastically sent a lot of diversity to Washington. Biden has also never faced a tough campaign and won. He held down a safe seat in a blue state for a long time, winning only because people knew him and he had the right letter after his name on the ballot. Biden has run for President twice before, and flamed out miserably both times. Sure, he made it on the ballot with Obama, but that ticket didn’t win because of Biden. All Biden really did is show up. Biden lacks the tight-knit political team that Obama had; all of the Obama alums are either retired or elsewhere. There will be no Jim Messina or David Axelrod guiding Joe’s ship in 2020. Biden reminds me of Jeb Bush. An obvious candidate that might have won, had he run last time. If Biden runs, and he almost certainly will, he will be one of the big candidates. But I doubt he is the nominee.
The old guard also has some fallback options. Elizabeth Warren has been dulled out by DC. She’s far-removed from the fire-breathing anti capitalist that was elected to Ted Kennedy’s old seat. But Warren reminds me of Chris Christie in 2016. Both were larger-than-life figures during a Presidential election that they might’ve won, and both turned it down. Tom Daschle once told Barack Obama that a path to the Presidency only opens once, and never opens again. Warren’s chance was in 2016, and she didn't take it. At Georgetown cocktail parties, the old guard also like to talk up the chances of John Kerry or Terry McAuliffe, a pair of has beens if there’s ever been one. Biden, Kerry, McAuliffe, even Warren all stink of the same strategy that was used by Hillary Clinton: you’ll win if you show up. Just like the GOP base revolted in 2016, I don’t think any of these candidates, if they even become candidates, will end up as the nominee.
The new crowd has the feel of the moment, but how will be able to capture it? Cory Booker is a dead end. It’s amazing that, after his ridiculous Spartacus moment, he didn’t see fit to remind anyone that he was a graduate of Yale. Voters can smell a guy who’s been running for President since he got out of law school, and they’ll toss Booker like they tossed John Edwards. Al Franken had a Presidential moment, but it was justifiably tossed away by female Senators led by Kristin Gillibrand. Gillibrand thinks everyone knows who she is, which is a sure bet that no one knows who she is. Neither have ever faced a tough race in their lives. Booker and Gillibrand are like Rubio in 2016; a pair of likable B-listers, too green for the national stage yet. Put them back on the shelf and let them ripen up a little bit.
Beto O’Rourke has the “it” factor now, and out of the new crowd, he’s the most likely to be able to carry a torch for “it”. Beto raised seventy million dollars in Texas and was only two and a half points from victory. His campaign probably elected a handful of Democratic congresspeople, who will all be grateful. Beto is in a unique spot right now. He’s known nationally, unlike most of the Democrats who want to run next year. Beto is young, telegenic, and instantly likable. If you are an Iowan or a New Hampshirite, you’re only going out to vote in the deep winter cold for a candidate that you really like. Beto’s resume is thin, but that wasn’t a problem with Obama, and it might have even saved him from attacks by Clinton. There’s the usual bit tossed around with the Beto 2020 talk; that Beto is just like Obama. That’s true in the broad stroke, Beto is a young upstart pol who doesn't care about taking on the old guard. But Obama’s 2008 ascent wasn't the miraculous rise history has made it out to be. Ted Kennedy, Harry Reid, even Chuck Schumer all made behind the scenes moves to help Obama out, and it’s not clear Beto has that kind of clout. Of all the new folks, Beto is the one I’m keeping an eye on. He might be the star here.
Bernie Sanders could be the Ron Paul of the Democratic Party, or he could be their Trump. Sanders’ basic message is that he will give the voters whatever they want. Free college? You got it. Free healthcare? Of course. Watching a Bernie speech is like an old episode of Oprah; “You get a car! And you get a car!” Bernie could be dangerous against Trump for exactly that reason. Bernie has never held a nine-to-five job in his life, and doesn't particularly understand or care about debt or spending issues. Bernie will promise the world if it means he gets elected. The question is, was 2016 a fluke? Did people just vote for him because he wasn’t Hillary Clinton?
My bet is that the Democratic nominee in 2020 will be Kamala Harris. She is young, interesting, has a pretty good political team around her, and will have no problem raising money. The map also makes a lot of sense for her. Iowa gave Obama his victory, and with most of the rest of the field concentrated from the northeast, she might be able to win New Hampshire just by being a westerner. Nevada is in the first five contests, and with Harris’ network located just a state away, she’ll be able to easily win it. After that is California, and if she can’t win her home state, she doesn't deserve to win at all.
