✨ people I wanna know better! ✨
Tagged by the lovely @roxannes-love-letters thank you, hun!! 💗🥰
Last Song? I got into Sabaton recently (like, two days ago 😂) and went for a greatest hits playlist on spotify yesterday to check more of their music, so the last song there was "In the Name of God". A really good listen, y'all definitely give it a go if you like heavier sound! I sure missed it.
Favourite colour? Violet! Or, I guess most people say purple, but for me it's the more blue-ish shade I associate with violet, and that's the one ^^
Currently watching? Nothing much, I'm not exactly a tv shows person, and if I end up watching one, I usually binge it (which hasn't happened since Kinnporsche: the series tbh), so for now it's mostly gameplays and let's plays on yt or streams of games Im interested in ^^
Last movie? Oh, I can finally answer this! 😂 I actually caught up on three movies I wanted to watch for quite some time last week. The last-last was Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, which hasn't sucked me in quite as much as I was expecting until the back half of the movie (tbf I usually watch animations with polish dub and this I watched in original, so maybe that had smth to do with it too?), but overall a very lovely movie and the ending was *chef's kiss* and two days earlier I caught up on John Wick Chapter 4 (Hiroyuki Sanada's parts were Amazing and absolutely my fave in the whole movie 💗💗 yes, Im biased, sorry not sorry xD) and I Finally watched Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among thieves too and y'all... Y'ALL, it was so good 😩👌 I LOVE IT! You can feel so much heart went into it, the humor was super fun, the characters Lovely, it Really felt like a DnD session in play and Holga my absolute beloved 💗 It actually managed to jerk a few tears out of me too 😂 Overall such a lovely movie, absolutely give it a watch if any of y'all hadn't already, it's definitely worth its time 💗 (Also, I'm surprisingly in the mood to catch up on some more movies, any recs anyone? ^^)
Sweet/spicy/savoury? Hm, out of these options, probably savoury. I've been trying to accustom myself to more spicy dishes too and it's slow going, but so far I'm liking that more and more too ^^
Relationship status? Single. Have been for years, unfortunately 😔 I miss having that sort of connection with someone terribly, but so far, no luck.
Current obsessions? Sad to report Im lacking a proper brain rot rn 😔 It was Astarion from BG3 for a while, but I kinda fell off the game after making a 100h in a couple weeks and now Im searching for a proper obsession again. There IS this new survival-building LotR-themed game but I Really don't need another one I'll play for a week or two and abandon forever, not to mention I shouldn't chip away at my savings any more than I absolutely have to now that I'm not working. So... We'll see if I'll cave in or not 😂 (for now I got Shadow of Mordor on sale so I might finally check it out tonight, who knows!)
Last thing you googled? Sabaton - 40:1 'cause I wanted to check the lyrics (and it's currently among my faves from Sabaton and no, not only because it's about polish history! it's just that good ^^)
Selfie? I'll do you one even better! Look at our lovely pupper:
Tumblr media
It's an older photo, but shhhh, no one has to know! And she's still looking good ^^ (better even, without the eye buggers!)
Friends I wanna get to know better: @dual-desires @fleet-off @asexualannoyance @the-cookie-of-doom @theflowergirl @livingbythewords @oenothera5 (This is no pressure tagging as always!)

People I wanna know better
Thanks for the tag @verecunda! <3
Last song?
Sunny Side of London by Joker Out. I wouldn’t have remembered that if my phone didn’t keep a record of the most recently played song, just in case I’m the sort of person who likes to replay a lot. I guessed it would be JO, but I would have expected something from Umazane Misli. I love that album.
Favourite colour?
My constant and unchanging favourite colour is blue, but of late I have developed a fondness for green and pink.
Currently watching?
Ghosts is of course a series I greatly enjoy, and the only other…I say fiction, it’s not fiction, but written series I’m watching is The Long Shadow.
Last movie?
I haven’t watched a movie in ages! Oh, I remember now, it was Puss in Boots: The Last Wish.
Sweet/spicy/savoury?
Sweet all the way.
Relationship status?
I’m Mr Lonely, I have nobody, all on my own.
Current obsessions?
Well…I appear to be turning into a Joker Out girl.
Last thing you googled?
Joker Out Katrina lyrics. Again, I do not remember this, but thank you phone for keeping a record I guess.
I'll tag @occhi-verdi-come-il-mare @bunny-banana @crazy-minded-girl @nemovanilla @caella-v @selznick @clara-oswald06 @seraphidae @codexjinora @nonbinaryowlitect @diari0deglierrori (sorry, for some reason it won't tag you two, hope you see it.) I would like to know you guys better :)

Currently Watching: Abbott Elementary S2 and The Crown S5
Consuming: Literally just had popcorn for lunch at the movie, don’t judge me.

12.01.23
sooo a lot of confusing things happened.
i went to see puss in boots yesterday and the hype is so worth it! im obsessed! it was so good!!!
and guess who i invited to the cinema with me...............
yeah, i know, i don't understand either. i texted him when i was on the train from luzern and he said yes. and so we went together.
(i was being weird on the phone with my parents about it so now they think that i have a secret lover lol. like idk i just can't lie to my parents so when they asked me who i went to the cinema with i was like "nobody!!!!" and it sounded very sspicious. so yeah, they believe that im seeing someone new now. but no lol. im just back on my bs.)
after the film we decided to go get a drink (i had green tea) and we had a very strange conversation. i told him about the books ive been reading and how im slowly making my way through kundera's "immortality" but i don't understand any of it. and then we talked about immortality (bc it was also a theme in puss in boots!) in relation to fame and who gets to be famous and who will always be left in the shadows. and then we said something along the lines of "extraordinary people get to be famous and normal people don't". and then i started telling him about how i think that it didn't work out between us bc we're not normal and we need normality to balance things out.
he said that his first relationship was with a normal person and, even though she was amazing, the relationship was boring. and he said that when he realised that i was crazy he found it charming. and it made me blush.
but anyway i started telling him about my zurich friend and my normal boyfriend fantasy and how i just want to fall in love with a normal person and be normal and hold hands. and he said that my zurich friend is very far from normal and how what we had was actually a normal relationship and i was too spoiled to realise it. he predicts that im gonna realise it in the future bc im gonna meet a lot of shitty guys and regret leaving him. but it will be a good learning experience for me.
and yeah he said that im not making sense and im speaking nonsense. and i think he's right bc ever since i isolated myself from society ive just been a bit insane. like im slowly descending into madness which i think is good for me bc i really need to think and analyse things. but at the same time ive become detached from reality. and now i have all these theories about wanting a normal boyfriend and hating the balkans.
then okay girlies bear with me... i missed my last tram and..... slept over at his place... yikes, i know i know.... but he promised we were gonna sleep in different beds (spoiler: we didn't) and we were just gonna drink tea and chat (spoiler: we didn't just drink tea and chat). and uhh im not gonna go into the details but i didn't feel really good. i just felt like... annoyed i guess is the best word to describe it.
i asked him if we could be friends bc i really want to be friends with him. i want to see his future spouse and kids and i want him to see mine. and i want us to be best friends until we die. but he said that if it's definitely over between us as a couple, we're not gonna see each other again. and it made me sad. why so harsh? why can't we just admit that it doesn't work and stay friends? he wouldn't give me an answer.
this morning we talked a bit more about our relationship and normality and stuff. and he said that in order to be a better and more mature person and actually learn from the past, i need to face my fears and confront him. and we can try to be bf/gf again but make an effort this time. and if it doesn't work, at least we would've tried.
so i was thinking about that for the whole day today. weighing the pros and cons and trying to understand what is "délire" and what is actually reasonable. i feel like im missing something in my brain, i swear. why do i never know what's right and wrong? what do i want and what do i not want? i feel like im disabled or something idk.
and then all of a sudden my dad (who i haven't heard from in a while) messages me like "call me now". he's in india now and i thought it was something urgent. so i called him. and the call lasted only 10 minutes (usually he goes on and on about conspiracy theories for like an hour). and this is what he said:
"you need to get back together with B!!! he's a good man. and it's rare in our day and age. there's a slavic genocide going on. and you guys have a problem with homosexuals in europe. and B represents gender values and he's a real man, which is so rare! sure, nobody's perfect i mean look at me. but B has more pros than cons. sure he's lazy, maybe he even goes to see other hoes from time to time. but nobody is perfect and your clock is ticking. you're 23 and healthy, it's the best time to have a child! if you're still unmarried at 30, people are gonna look at you weird. marriage is a status symbol, you know, it doesn't mean anything. you can get divorced. but being divorced at 30 is so much better than never having been married. it shows that you're a serious woman. and you should try to get back with him. organise a theatrical performance or something, i don't know. and tell him that the wedding's in may so he will be keeping busy organising everything. it's better to do things you regret, than regretting not doing things. okay bye!"
what the fuck.

Ask Game to Get to Know You
I was tagged by @deathishauntedbyhumans a fat bit ago, so imma do it now, lol
What book are you currently reading?
I guess technically I'm reading The Qur'an for an English class that looks at Biblical texts as literature. Pretty interesting so far.
What's your favorite movie you saw in theaters this year?
Uhh, gotta be Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, but I feel like once I see John Wick Chapter 4, it could replace that. I've been dying to see it.
What do you usually wear?
Uh, idk I gues like comfortable clothes that I can lounge around in??? Clothes that maybe say Gender tm idk
How tall are you?
5'4. 5'4 and a half of a good day.
What's your Star Sign? Do you share a birthday with a celebrity or a historical event?
Aquarius. I mean, it's on Valentine's Day, so.
Do you go by your name or a nickname?
In public, I go by my birth name, and in private, I go by my chosen name. Honestly, I guess either one isn't so bad to be called, but I think one day I would like to be called by my chosen name in public.
Did you grow up to become what you wanted to be when you were a child?
Nope, and I'm very thankful I never did. I don't care what benefits the military or being a cop has. I'm not doing either, lmao
Are you in a relationship? If not, who is your crush if you have one?
I'm not, and I dont think I have one? It's more like it would be nice to be in a relationship in general, but I'm also not thinking too hard about it rn.
What's something you're good at vs. something you are bad at?
Good at drawing, bad at math.
Dogs or cats?
Both cause I got both.
What's something you would like to create stuff for?
I'd really like to do my own video essays one day on things that I like/things that are important to me. And, also I would like to film a project one day. Also, highkey, my brother, sister, and I joke that we should be writers in like any company we grew up with (Lucasfilms, TellTale Games). Hire us, you cowards, lmao. If not, we'd just start a podcast talking about how something should be written, lmao
If you draw/write, or create in any way, what's your favorite picture/favorite line/favorite etc. from something you created this year?
Haven't written much this year, but I think my favorite art piece that I haven't shared on here was a drawing I did last night of Ruby Rose from RWBY, then seeing an old pic I did of her in 2017. Maybe I'll post the two at some point cause I like to show the growth I had.
What's something you're currently obsessed with?
The Persona games. Currently playing three and four. I'll find out a way to check out the first two games.
What's something you were excited about that turned out to be disappointing this year?
Can't think of anything at the moment
What's a hidden talent of yours?
The talent is so hidden that I haven't even figured it out yet lmao. Though maybe it's writing angst, I found out that I'm pretty good at that.
Are you religious?
I think at the end of the day, yeah, I am. But it's not extreme.
What's something you wish to have at this moment?
Not sure how I should answer this question since I'm interpreting it in multiple ways. Uh, I guess maybe like a chest binder? Or some like hot wings idk
I'll tag @sampoststuff @sharkmobster @indigomuunz @youraveragedeltafan, but honestly, anyone can do this

Children's Animated Series, As Graded by a Parent Who Has Watched Far Too Many of Them
My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic: The brony thing is legitimately weird, but this is legitimately a great show. The combination of epic-fantasy plots with a deep dive on friendship is a winner (and has also been deeply influential on kids' television). It also makes the obligatory pro-social messages feel earned, rather than an afterthought. The characters are charming, the writing sparkles, and the animation is still distinctive. Endlessly watchable, which is a good thing when your kid wants to watch endlessly. Fake holidays: Nightmare Night, Hearth's Warming Eve, Hearts and Hooves Day. Grade: A+
Avatar: I was fifteen years too old for this when it was on TV, so I didn't understand what the fuss was about. Now I do. It's epic but not grandiose, funny but not dumb, and morally deep without giving into plot gravity. The world-building, the writing, the animation, the voice-acting, the fight scenes, the side characters: everything works, and everything is pulling in the same direction. (The sequel series, The Legend of Korra, is more of the same, with an interestingly updated setting and better music.) If your kids are like mine, they'll want to talk about everything, and so will you. I guess binge-watching is a family thing now. Grade: A+
She-Ra and the Princesses of Power: This show is so gay. However gay you expect it to be, it's ten times gayer. It's also pro-diversity along every axis you can imagine, including body-type. It's completely awesome. It captures the uncannily compelling techno-fantasy atmosphere of the original, and it has characters with the same names, but otherwise it's a total gut rehab. The character studies at its core are compelling, even as the overall plot and action hold a young child's interest. It takes lots of anime animation tropes and tones them down to the verge of naturalism, which I wouldn't have thought would work, but totally does. Grade: A-
Wild Kratts: The big kid was learning biology from this show almost from before she could talk. "Giraffe. Long neck. Eat leaves." The premise of the show is genius: animated versions of veteran kids' wildlife-show hosts Chris and Martin Kratt have suits that give them "creature powers," and they travel around the world having adventures with animals. The science is legit and it's presented entertainingly. And the characters are winners, especially the creature-suit inventor Aviva Corcovado and the colorful villains. The only thing consistently annoying about this show is that it can be shouty. Everyone is Just! So! Excited! About! Animals! Grade: A-.
Phineas and Ferb: The Arrested Development of kids' animation, Phineas and Ferb is impossibly dense with overlapping plots, brick jokes, and a large army of recurring minor characters. Every episode features an original song, some of which are genuinely brilliant ("Squirrels in My Pants" is a household favorite). It is also a wholly, completely sweet-hearted show. Even the antagonists -- Candace and Dr. Doofenshmirtz -- are sympathetic, charming, fully-realized, and allowed to grow and be happy in ways that a lesser version of this show would never even have realized was a possibility. The allegretto pacing and intricate writing keep the show consistently fresh. New Disney at its best. Grade: A-
Ben and Holly's Little Kingdom: From the same team who brought you Peppa Pig, but even drier underneath its treacly trappings. The comedic timing is straight out of classic British sketch comedy. The voice actors are clearly in on the joke, which if anything makes the show more fun to listen to than to watch. B+
Dinosaur Train: Sometimes high concepts work. The show 100% owns its message: dinosaur physiology is a diversity metaphor, presented with just the right degree of insistence. The characters are sketched with grace and sympathy, and the science is pitched just right for its target audience. Over the years, the show (like all railfans) has gotten increasingly obsessed with its train equipment: the aquacar, the submarine, the ... zeppelin. The songs are surprisingly catchy, too: our favorite is probably the Dinosaur Train Zeppelin song, which, yes, is a Led Zeppelin pastiche. Grade: B+
Odd Squad: This one really grew on me. If all you've seen is short clips, it just seems like everyone is shouting about math all the time. But the show overall is delightfully goofy, with a real sense of how to string along a running gag, and some genuinely talented child actors. Grade: B+
Creative Galaxy: Despite being a total Daniel Tiger rip-off, down to the animation style, the obligatory song in every episode, and the live-action codas, this one is actually kind of nice. The art projects are well-chosen both to interest kids and also to actually be doable. Fake holidays: Heart Day. Grade: B
Peppa Pig: It took me a long time to appreciate this show's arch sense of humor. Everyone's pretensions and ambitions are punctured; embarrassing mistakes and small indignities await adults at every turn. Once you realize that the show is making fun of most of its characters but loves them anyway, it's much more bearable. Grade: B
Curious George: Entirely forgettable, with two mildly redeeming qualities. George himself is as charming as always, and the jazzy musical score is pleasant. Grade: B-
Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir: It took me a while to understand what this show was doing. It's very, very French. Grade: C+
Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood: Even my kids recognize that Daniel Tiger is needy and whiny. The show inadvertently teaches kids what to be afraid of and how to misbehave. There is also something deeply wrong with the economy of the Neighborhood: everyone seems to have multiple jobs and the public transit system runs on magic. On the plus side, the potty song has come in handy as a reminder: when you have to go potty, stop and go right away. Fake holidays: Love Day, Snowflake Day, Dress Up Day. Grade: C+
Ready Jet Go: I suppose there's some science in here somewhere, I guess. Grade: C+
Tumble Leaf: Reviewers might call this one "gentle," by which they mean "boring." The animation is lovely and the music is calming. But what's the point? Grade: C+
PAW Patrol: Unbelievably, incredibly formulaic. For example: have you noticed that they get in their trucks at exactly the same point halfway through each episode? Just Canadian enough to be noticeably off, but also rah-rah in a George W. Bush-administration kind of way. Sometimes I imagine grown-up versions of the pups. Chase regularly engages in police brutality, Rubble has a drinking problem, and Marshall has joined the alt-right. Grade: C
Nature Cat: Nature Cat is annoying and his friends are worse. I'm not clear on what they're supposed to be learning. And the theme song manages to be both unmemorable and an earworm. Make it stop! Grade: C
Super Why: More like Super Why Does This Exist, amirite? The whole show is oddly paced: I find the story-within-a-story structure confusing and can only wonder how much of it kids actually get. Having each character deal with a different aspect of literacy leaves the show's educational content unfocused. And the Super Letters are like the world's lamest game of Wheel of Fortune. Plus the song is an earworm, and not in a good way. Grade: C
Sofia the First: Empty Disney calories, this show is the reductio ad absurdum of Disney's democratization of the idea of "princess." The plotting, the writing, and the music are technically proficient. The cel-shading effects that give 3D animation the luminosity of 2D hand drawn are lovely. The messages are perfectly innocuous. But the heart of the show is a giant gaping void. Fake holidays: Wassailia. Grade: C
Lion Guard: More empty Disney calories, like Sofia the First but with more obnoxious characters. Inexplicably real holiday: Christmas. Grade: C-
Peg + Cat: All I can remember is that the show is inexplicably drawn on graph paper, and they have a BIG BIG PROBLEM every few seconds. When people complain about STEM, and I remember that this show exists, I have to admit that they have a point. Grade: C-
Martha Speaks: The AV Club's term for this kind of show is "least essential." Even by the standards of kids' shows, the premise makes no sense. Nobody here, human or canine, is remotely sympathetic. And the plot comes to a screeching halt every time it's time for a new vocabulary word. Grade: C-
WordWorld: I have so many questions about this show. If everything is made out of words, what about the ground? The sky? Windows? And what are the letters in the words made of? What is going on with the accents? And who greenlit three seasons of this garbage? Grade: D+
The Adventures of Puss in Boots: This is a weird, weird show. And not in a good way. Grade: D+
Trolls: The Beat Goes On: Quite possibly the most misanthropic kids show currently streaming anywhere. The combination of grimdark setting and hackneyed uplifting plot tropes is somewhere between unsettling and child abuse. Poppy is a walking illustration of emotional labor; Branch has severe PTSD. The show treats both of these as laughable quirks. And I am never going to get used to the Auto-Tune. Grade: D+
Kung-Fu Panda: The Paws of Destiny: Pretty much your standard DreamWorks animation. This is not a good thing. Grade: D
If You Give a Mouse a Cookie: The animation and voice-acting are innocuous. But building an entire show around the "if X, then Y" formula led to some disastrous choices. The show taught my big kid how to say things like, "If I see a rock, I just have to bring it home with me." It takes a special kind of kids show to affirmatively instill bad habits. Grade: D-
The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle (2018): An absolute travesty in every possible way. The remake is the direct opposite of everything the original represented: crude instead of clever, manic instead of playful, and mean instead of goofy. Grade: F-

Braindead: A Fan’s Dissection
Tumblr media
When I first saw this film a good number of years ago I was left dumbfounded. How could anything possibly be this good?? How could humanity top this film?? I wore it like a badge of honor: “I saw Braindead. You know it’s been rated as the goriest film of all time.” And all my friends in school were like “yeah, whatever.” I would come home from school, grab myself a Dr. Pepper, and sit down and watch it again. This obsession lasted for weeks—maybe months. It’s been so long I can’t really remember.
Point is: I adored this film the first time I saw it and I adore it even more now. This film is everything. It is—dare I say—Perfect.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with Braindead (or Dead Alive), I urge you to find it and watch it immediately before continuing to read my break down of it. I’m going to spoil a lot of it in this review.
Is this a review? It’s really just me gushing about it. It’s off-the-rails, hilarious, super gory, and a total blast. However, I hope you have a strong stomach, cos it’s really disgusting too.
Anyway, let’s take off, shall we?
Tumblr media
Let’s start with our main character: Lionel Cosgrove. He’s played by actor Timothy Balme in his first ever role. Lionel is a rather well-off young man who lives with his mother, Vera (Elizabeth Moody). He’s an awkward and shy boy; the first glimpse we get of him is him fumbling with a fruit display in a shop. Very soon after this, he spills a box of black licorice and pens all over the counter. Then very soon after that, he backs into a streetcar, nearly getting run over.
He’s super emotive/expressive and the perfect protagonist for this movie.
Now that I’m thinking about it, Braindead is really a coming-of-age film for Lionel.
Let’s dive a little bit into his backstory. He has a memory of nearly drowning at the beach and his father diving in to save him. Then, before his father could get out of the water, a “freak wave” comes along and pulls him out to sea, causing him to drown. Lionel is haunted by this memory, and very clearly feels partially responsible for his father’s death. His mother uses this guilt to get him to bend to her every whim.
Lionel’s mother, Vera, is extremely manipulative. The first scene with her she’s waving a carving knife around. In many ways she is like Margaret White from “Carrie.” Overbearing, mildly threatening, etc. She keeps Lionel at her beck and call.
At the end of the film, when Lionel finds out the truth about what really happened to his father, he stands up and confronts his mother. For probably the first time in his entire life, he stands up to her! Good for you, Lionel! See? That’s why it’s a coming-of-age film!
Tumblr media
I want to switch over now to Paquita, who is played by Diana Peñalver. Paquita is actually the first of the main cast we’re introduced to in the film. She works in a small corner store with her family—we only ever see her father and grandmother, but Lionel mentions at one point in the film that she has a brother. Paquita is a young woman determined to find the love of her life. She is very outgoing and independent. She kicks ass in this movie.
One of the great things about Paquita is that she has a strong will. I feel like the stereotypical way her character could’ve been written (love interest) would be for her to be the damsel in distress. However, since our main character Lionel is such an awkward guy who doesn’t really act without reason, we need someone to prompt him to action. This is fulfilled mostly by Paquita throughout the film.
There’s a scene I like where Paquita comes over to Lionel’s house to return his jacket. Lionel, nervous as heck because “Mum” is just down the hall, tries to tell her that he can’t see her anymore. Brokenhearted, Paquita offers him a red rose before turning away. I like how the stereotypical roles are reversed here: she sneaks up to his window and she gives him a flower. It’s refreshing. It also shows how much of a go-getter Paquita is.
I guess I should back up a bit and clarify why Paquita is so interested in a punching bag like Lionel. Paquita’s grandmother does a tarot spread to see who the man of Paquita’s future is. Initially Paquita is disappointed that it’s not the delivery man that she’s been flirting with. However, after her grandmother reads that Paquita will have one romance that will last forever, Paquita becomes interested again. Her grandmother says she will recognize the man of her future by the “Symbol of the Star.” Soon after, Lionel comes through the door, spills the licorice and pens which fall into the shape of the star. After seeing this, Paquita starts pursuing Lionel, believing he is the man of her future.
Tumblr media
Let’s get back on track with why Paquita is so cool.
When the movies kicks itself into 12th gear and the bloodbath starts, Lionel and Paquita get separated and Paquita has to defend herself. She hides in a pantry with a large knife and when tapped on the shoulder, she wildly stabs at whoever did it. Finding out it’s one of the partygoers, Paquita immediately tries to comfort and protect her.
I just think it’s great that there’s a good chunk of the movie where Paquita and a character named Rita are by themselves, barricading themselves in the kitchen and taking care of each other. Well, it’s mostly Paquita taking care of Rita, but still. It’s just two girls kicking ass together. Then later they tear Void’s legs in half and start batting away zombies with the legs. THEN later still when Lionel is in the lobby during the famous lawnmower scene, Paquita takes the body parts that come flying her way and grinds them up in a food processor. She kicks ass! She doesn’t need prompting, she doesn’t need saving… she’s a girl who knows what she wants and knows how to handle herself.
Also I love it when she spits in Uncle Les’ face when she rips his spine off and then smashes his head on the counter. Nice!
Speaking of smashing heads, I want to talk about how people are seemingly made of jell-o in this movie. Especially when people become zombies. Limbs can get ripped off easily, two heads colliding can make one explode, a whole body falling off a banister can cause it to explode in blood and guts when it hits the floor. It’s outstanding. And so cartoonish!
Tumblr media
This whole movie is basically a really gory, really violent cartoon. The huge glass bottles labeled “Tranquilizer” and “Poison” with a skull and cross bones but uh-oh! It was actually Animal Stimulant! Ooooops! Lionel’s facial expressions throughout the whole movie, all the physical comedy… even the meat grinder in the kitchen is labeled ACME. Everything in this movie is about 30 miles over the top. It’s a love story, a coming of age story, a splatterfest, and a comedy all rolled into one.
I could keep going on and on about how this move is the holy grail of horror/splatter comedies, but I think I’ve gushed enough for now. And really, if you still haven’t seen it (I know it’s kind of difficult to get a hold of) after reading this review or whatever this is, you’re missing out. It’s so disgusting and fun! On top of that, it’s got a sweet little love story in it. ♥
Thanks for reading! Stay gory, stay fun!

EXCELLENT MOMENTS
- Gluing Vera’s cheek back on. I just love how she says: “Oh.” So benign. The scene of Lionel gluing her cheek back on her face looks so painful and it’s just like what?? That’s the best solution you had? Absolute gold.
- “Damn fine custard!” Euugh oh my god. The scene of Mr. Matheson taking a heaping spoonful of custard contaminated with Vera’s bloody puss into his mouth is scarring. In that scene, we, the audience, ARE Nora Matheson. Her eyes bulge and she covers her mouth to stifle a gag. Then she looks over in horror as Vera eats her own ear with a spoonful of custard. Poor Nora has to leave the room before she vomits. Some of the audience might want to vomit as well.
- Lionel coming down to the basement wearing like hockey goalie armor or whatever that is as well as a helmet, goggles, rubber boots, and gloves in hopes of protecting himself from “Mum” and Nurse McTavish. Of course Lionel falls all over the place and most of his armor comes off while fighting against the two zombies, but he lives somehow.
- Continuing with Lionel, I love love love all the scenes where he’s all unshaven and greasy as he tries to figure out what to do with the zombies in his basement. I love in the graveyard when he tranquilizes Void and just sits down with his head in his hands like “Ah Jesus, could this get any worse?” Like, he’s too stupid (or soft I guess) to just hack the zombies to pieces and be done with it. If he were to do that, this whole mess could’ve been avoided.
- “I kick ass for the LORD!” This was the scene that I saw on youtube and then immediately decided that I needed this movie in my life. It’s so out of the blue, it’s so silly. The benign and somewhat irritable priest at Vera’s funeral is SO READY for the rapture or whatever that when he sees zombies in the graveyard he jumps down on them and kicks the shit out of them (before tragically getting bit in the neck by the zombie’s head that he had kicked up in the air and then running and drop-kicking so hard that he goes flying and gets speared by a grave marker statue). Bless you, Father McGruder.
- Uncle Les’ murder spree. Honestly, as shitty of a guy Uncle Les is, he really knows how to handle himself in a zombie outbreak. He’s a sadistic wack-job for sure, but if it wasn’t for him, Paquita and Lionel would probably have twice the amount of zombies to contend with. Uncle Les hacks up dozens of them in the kitchen and then lights himself a cigarette.
- Lionel dangling upside-down in the lobby. There’s so much chaos going on in the house, and I love that it gets tied together in a sense when Lionel falls from the attic but is caught by some electrical wiring which, over in the kitchen, yanks Mandy and her lit-up head back into the wall. I love Lionel dangling uselessly in the lobby for a small portion of the movie. Paquita runs up to him and kisses his cheek, Void’s intestines in the attic try to pull him back into the ceiling, Uncle Les shoves him out of the way causing him to start swinging around… I love the chaos of it. I love it. I can’t get enough.
- “Party’s over.” Of course. The bloodbath. The holy grail of bloodbaths. Lionel throws the doors open holding a lawnmower in front of him. He revs it up and starts plowing through the zombies in the lobby. The scene is set to a waltz number as Lionel grinds bodies seemingly made of jell-o to a bloody mess. Limbs and blood and guts are flying everywhere. It’s amazing. I also love the scene where Lionel flips the portrait of the Queen around before he let’s out a battle cry and continues to puree the zombies.
Feel free to add your favorite moments too!

Tumblr birthday: February 11th, 2013
How many side blogs: 4 lol
Random fact about me: I’ve always liked rabbits as an animal but for most of my life I didn’t really care for them that much. It wasn’t until Five Nights at Freddy’s came out when they quickly became a favorite animal due to my love for Bonnie. Tho it wasn’t right away. I was a big Foxy fan at first (I mean, I’m still am, but Foxy was my #1 at first). Since then, Bonnie has remained as my favorite rabbit character of all time
Goals for 2018: Uuuhhh idk survive it?? Get myself back together a little? I’ve experienced a fall in depression over the course of several months and I’ve recently hit a new all-time low (I’m not like horribly depressed to the point I can’t smile anymore, but there’s just so much dragging me down lately). Talking has become a huge challenge for me, hanging out with people takes a lot. And even doing some of the things I love feels exhausting. Its not like I’m not having fun, because I do have fun, its more like I’m just so tired that it takes all the energy I have to just do something simple. I’d like to at least get out of this particular pit lol
Tagging: @skunky2 @caliboron @skylarkstarflower @edgy-pone @frehorn and I think that’s it. Idk who else to tag lol as usual you don’t have to do this if you don’t want to. If you wanna do this and I didn’t tag you, you can go ahead and said I tagged you ;)

Happy 2K17!
Hello! It’ been forever since i blogged. It’s finally 2017 now, so HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone! (technically it’s 3rd January today, 3:17am, so I’m about 2-3 days late but that’s okay)
I have always wanted to share what I did for my 21st birthday last year, but my laptop decided to give up on me so here I am now, blogging from a friend’s laptop. (seriously, what would I do without her)
So for my big day, I went out all alone. Yeap, ALONE. I don’t really mind being alone, I’m not a clingy brat and I’d prefer some “me time” too, really. So I did a little shopping. I got myself a new bracelet, finally! My cheap Mickey & Minnie Mouse bracelet was giving up on me too! To be very specific, I got myself a Thomas Sabo Engraveable Bracelet, with “you can’t give up” engraved on it, and a “21″ locket charm to symbolise my 21st. Total costing me about $250, leaving me broke for the entire month of November :’) But hey, I survived!
Trust me I’d really like to post it on tumblr, along with all my other birthday presents that I’ve received but like I said, my laptop screwed up at the wrong time, so... I do have a pic actually, but it shows my cute toes hahahaha but its not a “tumblr-worthy” image anyway so I’d give that a miss. I could also post now to show, but its full w scratches now, bet you can’t see the engraving too.
I specifically choose that quote because yes, I am indeed obsessed with Thomas-Brodie Sangster, and this is one of his dialogues from a deleted scene. A scene in which he said to Dylan O’brien (in The Scorch Trials), “you can’t give up. I wont let you.” Pretty meaningful, don’t you think? I could have engraved the whole line if the space was plenty but its not, think I can only afford 18 alphabets haha. Thankful for this brand, the quote and everything, because it reminded me never to quit or give up, and also for letting me own a -something Thomas- (since I can’t own him) hahahaha!
On New Year, I went out with my boyfriend and his family to Universal Studios Singapore (USS for short) and to be honest, 21 years of living and that was my first time there. I went once for Halloween on 2015, but I couldn’t catch the rides so that wasn’t really my first time.
The first ride we took was my all time favourite; the Transformers Ride!! Mad mad love for Transformers, no idea why. Even my boyfriend thinks i get carried away with fictional characters. But it’s okay, it shows I enjoyed something so much right? (Is it even healthy or normal, anyway)?
Next we took the Jurassic Park ride. Like I said, it was my virgin trip, I had zero clues that USS has water rides. The ride is to sit on a 9-seater circle boat, so it spins as the currents pushes you through. I, out of 9 people, happened to be the UNLUCKY one, on MY FIRST TRIP, was the one who got soaking wet! Legit, I’m not even exaggerating! Syahrin’s sister got wet too, but i got DRENCHED. COMPLETELY SOAKED FROM HEAD TO TOE. My hair (that I’ve straightened, my top that I’ve ironed, my cute socks and shoes.... ) Its bad enough I didn’t bring spare clothes and shoes, to make matters worst, it rained, heavily! I did went to the dry pod to dry myself up, but it’s as useless as a cheapo hairdryer that takes forever and does nothing. Oh and not to mention, not only was my shirt wet, IT STAINED. I was wearing white on that day, and it got wet.... And dirty. Definitely not cool. (Boo).  Also, it smelled. Smelled so bad like I haven’t bathe in a week. It was pretty crowded that day since it’s a holiday so imagined how insecure I was. Yes, I could purchase a shirt from the gift shop, but who would spend $30 on a plain “UNIVERSAL STUDIOS SINGAPORE” top? Sorry, not me. I’m broke af.
Afterwards we took the Puss in Boots ride. Also a 9 seater so we don’t have to split but I sat out on the corner so every turn makes it scarier! At this point the rain was still drizzling, so its not that bad. Puss in Boots is like a normal ride, Still thrilling, tho.
We managed to catch a Revenge of the Mummy ride, and that was CCC-RRRR-AAA-YYYY-ZZZZ-YYYY!! Insane! You name it! It’s bad enough the ride is indoor, and dark, and cold, but it has no seatbelts! All I had was a freaking bar in between my legs to grab and hold on tight to, and it was insane. Lit but insane! You move forward, backwards, and all the other directions you could possibly think of! My heart nearly stopped and came out of me, and I twisted my arms through the small gap on the bar to give myself extra security. Even that wasn’t enough.
By the time we stepped out of the Mummy ride, the rain was already heavy. USS doesn’t provide too many shelters, and their shelter space was small. Imagine about 80 people of all shapes and sizes, cramming under one small shelter, and some other people passing thru... Not cool. Nope. It rained for what seems like forever, so many outdoor rides had to stop, sadly. I really wanted to take the 2 outdoor Galactica rides. But luck wasn’t with me. It’s okay, perhaps next time.
The rain continued all the way and we braved through the rain to other shelters to find food, but Singapore is all about making money, and a regular hotdog bun with fries and a soft drink cost $13. No thanks. We took another boring indoor ride, the Madagascar ride just to kill time but the rain was still.... Heavy.
We managed to find another larger shelter and by then the rain has started to show mercy, so we managed to capture some pics. After all that, we left the place with the unsatisfied feeling of not being able to catch all the rides.
I’m guessing we went at a wrong time since it’s quite a monsoon season in Singapore right now, but it was a good experience. A good start to my 2017 really, cos days before 2016 ended, Syahrin and I talked about going USS and on 1st January, his mom decided to take us there. A blessing indeed. Syukran.
I believed things happened for a reason, and tho we couldn’t catch the other rides, I’m still thankful for this trip. thankful and blessed to have known Syahrin and his perfectly beautiful family.
Knowing Syahrin has definitly been my biggest blessing since 2013. His family is really accepting and perfect, and it’s with them I got to experience many “first time”. My first time to Adventure Cove, USS and many more. Thank you Allah, for giving me an opportunity to have known Syahrin and his wonderful family.
I can’t wait to see what 2017 has in store for me, and may it be a better year for me. In Sha Allah, Amin.
Till next time, xoxo.
