PATHFINDERS - The Grimspawn Cleric

Update from the PF2E Remaster coming in late 2023: Due to Tieflings and Aasimars being liked to the OGL, Paizo merged and renamed these versatile heritages as Nephilim. I shall keep these names in some descriptions for better comprehension.

The only things in classic D&D that I believe could be compared to the Daemons, dark inhabitants of Abaddon, would be the Yugoloths, but only in certain aspects, especially the neutral evil alignment - something that Pathfinder is already discarding, thanks to WoTC being this beauty of a company that it is, but that's for another day - since, even though they are selfish and only interested in their own agendas, they are not mercenaries necessarily linked to whoever pays the most. Daemons seek death and entropy, but without the disorder and chaos of demons or the systemic and orderly depravity of devils, being avatars of the purest evil and discord, especially interested in mortal souls as almost a type of sustenance, not numbers for their hordes. And, sometimes, these creatures leave their mark on the blood of mortals, creating Nephilim known as "Grimspawn."

Of all the drawings in this series, I think this will be one of the only ones - if not the only one - that received a complete remake at the end. In the original drawing (2nd drawing), in which my cousin was transformed into a cleric, we both had the idea making him linked to death, but also to nature, with armor and weapons covered in fungus, as well as a scarab beetle, a classic symbol of death, as a "family member". But, when redoing this char, which was even sketched in my new style (3rd drawing), I wasn't connecting with the idea. Which is why I ended up remaking him as a Nephilim Cleric of Nocticula, a goddess who previously belonged to the Abyss, but today presents herself as the Redeemer Queen, protector of artists and exiles, which fits perfectly for both a "tiefling" and an orc, which is the base ancestry that I mixed here by surprise - Nephilim are a versatile heritage, not limited to humans as usual - but still maintaining the original idea of making him a descendant of Daemons, even if distancing him from the idea of "cleric of death ".

I also wanted to bring a different color to those generally used in this type of Nephilim, with an almost draconic green, complete with scales and thorns, as well as the blue and white colors of the goddess. Nocticula's weapon is the dagger, which he carries on his belt, but hammers and clerics go together so perfectly that I couldn't leave him without it.

Also I finished up the crocodile car now too!

While I'm still mildly disappointed by the wildly different look of the Night Hunter. (*cough* his hook missing *cough*), he actually looks really badass as a minifigure.

The crocodile car was a pain to build tho, I'm happy I got that over and done with.

Lego Dreamzzz: Dream Chasers and the Riddle-Spokens book obtained & read.

Favorite bits (+ spoilers) under the cut:

Logan's memory is terrible and he's proud of it.

Cooper dropped his voice to a whisper. "Do you even remember what happened at lunch?" "I don't remember anything longer than I have to," Logan proclaimed proudly. (Page 38)

It is confirmed that Sneak is supposed to resemble a cat! He is described as a "cat-shaped grimspawn with one bulbous eye" on page 75, and a "cat-like grimspawn [with] a devious mind and a lie waiting on his tongue at all times" in the glossary.

Mateo and Cooper bonding over their fear of failure was a delight, plus Cooper mentioning "parents" instead of just "mom."

Cooper looked a little stiff. "Uh, um… I don't know about that. My parents get pretty upset if I don't get things right the first time." (Page 47) [Cooper] rubbed the back of his head as he stopped in front of them. "Yeah. My parents wouldn't like to hear about me leaving class early, but I told the teacher I was friends with one of the artists." (Page 183-184)

"Logan! That was so smart!" Cooper ran over and clapped his shoulder. "Well, you know. Sometimes I can focus, too." Logan shrugged, smiling hesitantly at first, like he was genuinely touched by the compliment. But then he cleared his throat and turned a wink and a grin on Zoey. "What'd you think, Zoey? Pretty good, right?" She was annoyed about a lot of things. But she had to give it to him- it was smart. So she sighed, striding past him, and nodded. "Sure, Logan. Nice job." He perked up even more and and followed her across the room.

Logan attempting to be nice, being surprised when it works.

"Well, I think the judges are obviously really dumb," Logan said, way too loud, and everyone looked their way. "Z-Blob is super awesome in your drawing! Even I can't laugh at him. He should've at least won first place. The art teacher must have something in both of his eyes." Z-Blob stuck his [head out of Mateo's] backpack and gurgled, as if thanking him for the compliment. For some reason, that was all it took to break Mateo's tension, and he started to laugh. Logan looked surprised before he started grinning."

Final Thoughts:

As far as writing-quality goes, this book is about what you'd expect. It won't blow you away, but it's still good. Other than a handful of typos, I couldn't find any problems with it. Absolutely adored the characters' personalities in this story, and their subtler actions really made it for me!

Ninjago/Dreamzzz crossover AU that takes place during Crystalized. To make this fic work, Ninjago isn't a fictional show in Dreamzzz, but another Realm, as is the Dream World.

When the Bounty crashes, Lloyd is out cold and finds himself in the Dream World. Only problem? He's in one of the Nightmare King's realms, being chased by the Nightmare King's forces due to his strong power of Creation working as a better version of Imagination.

He tries to use his powers to fend them off but it's not going very well for him honestly.

Then, Mateo and the other Dream Chasers show up to save Lloyd. They go destroy tons of Grimspawn. The only issue? Garmadon wakes Lloyd up, right as the Nightmare King and co. have him surrounded.

This then results in Lloyd accidentally bringing the Nightmare King and a few Grimspawn into Ninjago. This is NOT good for anyone, at all.

The Nightmare King hops onto his Pegasus to fly around and get a scope of what's goin' on in Ninjago, and sees everywhere is patrolled by Dragonides and Vengestone warriors and he has NO clue what is going ONNN.

Then he hears an odd rumbling and turns around to see a giant temple covered in Crystals, the Oni Temple. He flies onto it to see what's going on, and he's met by the Overlord.

Both are equally perplexed by the existence of the other, but they know they're both very powerful and thus decide to team up with one another.

This results in Crystal Waking Nightmares, people's worst fears and nightmares made real and dangerous. This also leads to an odd position for the C.O.C.K, because clearly the Overlord has found someone FAR better for their jobs than them.

The Overlord's not gonna like, replace them or anything, rather, the Nightmare King is more of a second leader, and everyone reports to him instead of Harumi now.

Fortunately for the ninja, the Dreamchasers are there to help them! Unfortunately for the ninja, they're all a bunch of children and they do not in fact have their mega epic superpowers. Good thing Oni Magic isn't suppressed by Nightmare Magic, and nor is Dragon Magic.

I still don't understand who it is. And why did he wake up under Mateo’s bed, how did he even end up there? Why can he use Lunia's hourglass? He died as quickly as he appeared. Does anyone have theories or thoughts about this character?

-Sycamore got a visit from his daemon father when he was a child, it did not go well for him or his mothers. His injured back started rotting away so his mothers went looking for whatever magic would make it stop to save him, in the end they settled on these tattoos. They stops the rot and helps him move.

-He has chronic pain, and if he strain himself too much his open wound starts bleeding again. Until the Rushlight Tournament nobody (except Regongar) knew about his injury.

-Sometimes in Act 4 or 5 he was almost cut in half fighting some giants, he died and the rushed resurrection caused him to need urgent surgery to fix what hadn't been healed properly.

Because his spine was cut he needed to extend his tattoos to be able to move his legs again. It took some time until he was able to walk again, he can't feel anything under that scar so he often doesn't notice injuries on his lower body, he can't move his tail and (unlike in the illustration) its mostly dead weight and messed up his balance for a while.

Some of his organs were also removed as they had started to rot, he has to be careful about his diet among other things.

-(Being vague to avoid spoilers) During the end of the game's story where everyone is weakened by the final boss magic/curse Sycamore's back started rotting again until he managed to get everyone's strength back.

Now, why all this? In the game Sycamore is a 'born out of tragedy' daemon (i think in english they're called grimspawn?), so i wondered for a while what kind of tragedy exactly it could be, i ended up with his mother dying giving birth but there were a lot more tragedies happening even before that.

For his injuries it's because in stories where you can heal everything and even bring people back from the dead i always wonder 'what are the limits to magic and what happens if you mess up?' so this is why.

Oz's Spacebus build & finished! Honestly it doesn't really look all that interesting, but I think this set was mostly worth it for Prof. Oz and Albert.

Review: 71456 Mrs.Castillo's Turtle Van

Welcome to Dream Crafting Van, the place where you can craft your own dreams and ride your way through the world of endless imagination.

Ever since the official reveal of the LEGO DreamZzz line, this set was the one that caught my eye, and I fell in love with. There's something about this retro-looking van itself, its pastel colors and Mrs.Castillo's minifigure that makes it so nice and different.

Building was fun. The book with instructions is colorful, features art illustrations and tells a story that leads you through the building.

The set can be built in 3 different ways: just the van, build it as a turtle with a fun party mode on, with a cat-cactus, palm tree and a chest, or make it into a flying turtle submarine with a periscope and “fire” in the back.

Tortuga's Dream Craft shop is a very fun place where Mrs.Castillo mixes different items and ingredients. There are two chalkboards that show the Dream Craft items and builds. They add something extraordinary to the set. But there's no printed tiles, it's all stickers.

The minifigures are very colorful and detailed, they are: Mrs. Castillo, Mateo and Zoey. There are also 2 new figures: Z-Blob and a Grimspawn. All of them are very fun to photograph and play with. Especially if you have watched the DreamZzz episodes.

Mrs. Castillo's minifigure may look odd, but she is perfect as it is. The white hair, the print on her dress, the look of her face, they all match up perfectly and show us her personality as she is a wise and a warm hearted woman.

The hourglass is the main tool in the Dream World. It is used for Dream Crafting, but you have to be careful– the sand inside isn’t endless. You can see it even on the front of the van as an emblem.

It's a really fun set, which is both great for display and play. It has a lot of characters involved.

I would give this set a score of 9/10.

It has been released on August 1st and it's price is $47.99 and 47.99€

LEGO sent the set, but all the opinions here are my own.

Here's how I came up with the idea of the pictures:

I wanted to represent the colorful part of the Dream World, so I decided to use hard morning sunlight.

I put a piece of cardboard next to my window. On top of it, there’s a layer of artificial grass. Next, there’s a blue cardboard as a background and some props. I used barbeque skewers, wire, and Uhu Patafix to attach the objects to the wooden sticks. These sticks are pretty good to make things stable.

For one of the pictures I used a little tripod to place the turtle van on top to make it look like it’s flying. Then some editing, I had to remove the props and make the magic look real.
