Being a kid again was strange, especially with his mind retaining all of the memories and experience of his former self. He was an adult stuck in a child’s body, literally. Whereas the other children had need of a sitter, he did not. He could easily reheat any leftovers within the fridge and knew full well how to take care of himself, even if that just detailed sitting on the couch and watching television all day.

Have you decided how the Cyan and Orange Soul modes are going to work? Because from the look of it, they’re going to be used in Burgerpants and Maddaton EX’s fights, respectively. Also, do you have any designs for Burgerpants?

At first I was confused as to where you got those specific soul modes from until I remembered the weapon/armor list on our website haha. I did think about this sometime in February and even made a chart to try to make sense of it but hadn't considered the soul modes could switch around too. If they change according to the new soul order, it would be like this:

Interestingly Undyne and Papyrus keep their original combat styles... leon also came up with some ideas for cyan and orange:

Cyan could give you a set number of invulnerability frames when you're not moving. Straycat probably throws a lot of garbage and junk all over the place, so he could have some attacks that'd otherwise be impossible to dodge as trash fills the battle box and you have to go higher and higher up and have less time to anticipate attacks Orange is easy: You can't stop moving but go faster. Maddaton is super high energy and it's the only way to outrun her attacks. Think about a fight that's styled like Sans' attack where he puts you in a loooooooong battle box, but for basically the whole fight. Maybe it's styled after a music bar? I'm sure there's other creative applications for the idea too that I just can't think of right now

Even if you're not making an actual fangame it's still fun to think about this kind of thing!

Burgerpants/Straycat was designed by @sunfloraas so it's up to her if she wants to post her drawings on here. There is that little doodle up there and I suppose I can post these overworld sprites too; it's still missing Gerson and Q.C. but at least there's other guys!

You opened your door with a sigh and slumped inside. What a day! You hadn't even done that much, but it had just taken so much out of you...All you wanted to do was lie down.

Something smelled really good, you noticed. Smoky and spicy...it wrapped around you like a warm blanket and made you feel more at home than you usually did in this apartment. A small part of your brain (the part that wasn't exhausted) wondered where the smell was coming from. It almost smelled like you'd been cooking, but you'd just gotten home...

You followed your nose to the kitchen. Grillby turned around, a long wooden spoon in one hand. "There you are," he said, his voice a soft, soothing rumble. "Come in and sit down. Dinner is almost ready."

"What are you doing here?" you asked, even as you walked to the table and sat.

"I thought you might need a good meal tonight," Grillby said, turning back to the stove.

"But what about the bar?"

"It's in good hands. I'll go back before closing."

"You didn't have to do this for me, Grillby," you said.

"I wanted to." He turned off the burner with a click and reached up to get a bowl out of your cupboard. He spooned a healthy portion of what turned out to be stew into the bowl, then brought it to you. "Eat," he said.

"Join me?" you asked. "Please?" You wanted company. You wanted him to stay.

Grillby didn't hesitate. He took another bowl, filled it with stew, and joined you at the table. You reached one hand across to twine your fingers through his. "Thank you," you said.

"My pleasure."

Adrenaline Sans!

Au: Correctiontale

Quick AU synopsis: Sans– or “Adrenaline” (also nicknamed ‘Lin)– is from one of my original AU’s ‘The Deathrunner Tales’. Essentially, he’s a massive parkourist and he and the rest of monster-kind have to get to the barrier before the “Correction” (which is like a mass of white glitches) catch up to them.

But he owns a bar.

A really vintage-feeling, space-themed bar.

Like, originally he was this really famous parkourist that won several gold metals and broke many, many world records.

But then he decided to mellow out and own a bar– one which competes with Grillby

This being said, Adrenaline and Grillby actually have a very entertaining rivalry-friendship and love to challenge each other for the hell of it

He literally called his bar “The Joint.”

It’s an inside joke between him and his very first customers who gave him a different name suggestions

Although most Papyri dislike the name (Like Edge and UT!Papyrus… and also HT!Papyrus) they like it more than Grillby’s

Only because of the lack of grease, though.

Classic Sans and UF!Sans (Red) are his most frequent customers. On the days that Axe (HT!Sans) gets out, he very much prefers to go to “The Joint”.

Y’know, ‘cause of flashbacks.

ALL OF THE DRINKS ARE SPACE-THEMED!

AND THERE’S A LIBRARY CORNER!

For all of them people that just wanna chill, he’s created a library corner filled with books ranging from non-fiction to psychological horror to fantasy. And of course, Sci-fi.

Adrenaline is both the manager, owner, and the security. People have quickly come to respect him, considering how many times he’s literally tossed a drunk asshole out.

He doesn’t stand up for any bullshit.

Also he has a non-discriminant policy, which means racists, homophobes and transphobes are forced to leave as soon as they show any signs.

Other than that, The Joint has become a popular tourist destination! He also has a telescope there for those who want to watch the stars at night.

Controversally, whenever people come into his bar, he always asks, “Yo, you been to Grillby’s?”

Grillby does the same, too.

As I said, weird rivalry-friendship.

But yeah! Adrenaline’s sorta just that bartender (who has a PhD in Psychology) that loves to help people out!

i'm talking long-ass shifts, staying up til no-fucking-thank-you o'clock, that stuff

Sans: He gets constant laughs out of her. He's always the life of the bar, but anyone who knows him can tell he's trying extra hard around her and using only his best terrible jokes. The bunny monster who used to crush on him has stopped vying for his affections, because she can tell he's completely got his heart set on Mc. Though Mc still does have to harass him to pay his tab, his jokes have her ducking behind the bar to snort, or spilling drinks because she's not concentrating. He feels like he's won when she puts her head in her hands and tries to disguise her smile with a groan.

He goes there entirely for her. He used to go for the terrible food, but now he shows up for almost every shift just to see her. Grillby swats him over the skull and tells him to stop 'swooning over the staff'. He loves her smile and her eyes, he loves the way she talks to him, how she's not afraid to cut him off or dob him in to Papyrus over the phone. He has a shitty sleep schedule anyway, he doesn't mind aggravating her until the early hours of the morning.

Red: She's got a bit of a schoolgirl crush on him. He's funny, he's hot, he handles his alcohol like a champ, his flirtation is genuinely flattering. Despite looking like the sort who would grope her, even when he's absolutely shitfaced he's never leery or gross, he never makes her feel uncomfortable. Shitfaced Red makes her feel extremely pretty and interesting. One time when he was drunk, she spotted him nearly ogling her butt, but then quickly turning his eyelights up to the ceiling at the last second.

He also actively defends her at the bar; he throws hands with the idiots who get aggressive, to the point where people don't bother her anymore if Red is at the bar. The relief on her face when he takes a seat is clear as day.

... Look, he's not the kinda guy who fools himself into thinking the sweet smiling bartender genuinely likes him. But he can tell she does prefer him to the other guys. Any time things are slow, she'll come and talk to him, picking him over all her other regulars and even the other staff. It's his favourite place for a reason.

Skull: Not gonna lie, at first, she had really bad vibes from him. He'd stare at her for hours, get one drink, then stare for another few hours. She's had more than her fair share of weird guys who think they're her boyfriend because she used her customer service smile on them.

... One night, she was closing up the bar. Someone followed her out the door and cornered her, grabbing at her and not taking no. Skull showed up and knocked their fucking teeth out. Then, like the big quiet gentleman he is, he walked her to her car; once he made sure she was safe and okay, he left without a word.

Now he's her certified favourite. He's welcome anytime, and he gets drinks on the house. On top of that, now she knows he's not a bad guy, she's started looking past his scary exterior- and she's beginning to realise that underneath all the silence and scars and spooky glares, he's actually a big cute softie.

Going off what you said about sans, do you think Papyrus is an extrovert like he appears to be, or secretly an introvert? I've always seen people saying he's an extrovert, but he doesn't hang around people besides Undyne and Sans.

papyrus only appears as an extrovert, and being extroverted shouldn't be confused with the fact that he wants friends.

while it's true that he spends his entire introduction bemoaning his lack of friends, it becomes quickly apparent that this isn't the real conflict of his character. papyrus obviously has some issues with... well not so much his self esteem, as his self image. how to be "someone important" in "the right way". he's built up this idea of what a cool person should be, and that idea includes "having lots of friends who think you're cool" and "showers of kisses every morning" as key elements. which is all fine and dandy, except he... doesn't actually seem to want that?

i mean think about it. you go on a date because he feels like he has to, then he turns you down because he can't make himself fall in love with you. he basically acts as the mayor in town—and sure he's goofy, and ridiculous, but all of snowdin seems to be at least fond of him, if not actively amused by his antics—it would take nothing for him to make friends with them... eeexcept he also hates grillby's, ie the primary hangout spot for his fellow sentires in the area.

it becomes obvious the moment you compare him to his brother. sans, as opposed to papyrus, is depressed to a point that it impacts his energy and executive function, and STILL, where does he spent 99% of his time? at the bar full of people. sans doesn't need to charge his social batteries after interactions, he recharges his batteries BY being in social situations. papyrus, on the other hand, seems at his happiest with a tight knit group of close friends and plenty of personal space as well as private time, either by himself or with his brother at max (he does cite his house as his favorite place to spend time, rather than public spaces, and loves organizing family parties there post-canon)

so nope, not an extrovert imo. though still very much a community-oriented guy.

Happy end of year! Thanks everyone for the warm reception to OTHERSWAP, here's hoping we'll have even more for you in 2024. In the meantime I'll share some miscellaneous pictures for you all to look at!

Sketches for the snack bar in Clearwater that replaces Grillby's. I thought it would be funny if each town was required by law to have some kind of Christmas tree decoration. I'm really attached to the mascot idea... maybe there's a monster who just looks like that. Talk about a dream job!

The building ended up changing a bit in the sprite but it keeps the sliding doors and walk-up counter I wanted so it's fine. The sprite is a mishmash of roofing from Hometown buildings, the flowerpots from Grillby's, and original work.

Noteblook and Shyra, Shyren's sister who replaces her in this AU. Obviously we never see her in the original game so I had to come up with a design that still says they're related but still distinct from each other. She's a little ditzy but still just as cute! Little fish monsters are fun to draw.

Muffet eating a spear (spider pear), Shyra again, and the Holiday kids.

Speaking of the Holiday kids, a little drawing of them in that one Christmas dress! You know the one.

This was one of the very first things I drew back in 2021 when we were just starting work on OTHERSWAP. In the end we decided to not change Frisk at all, which thank god because the one singular stripe makes me uneasy.
