So; the story ends like this. The star is carried onto Gordion. Monsoon can hardly even move by the time they arrive. It is burning, charring as it moves, the bright flecks of indigo upon its skin dulling as it dies. It carries the star, faithful beyond words, trusting that Indigo will be there. And he is. He is.

So. They stand on Gordion, the only things there. There is nobody else. It is still far too early into the quota cycles.

Indigo does not understand the emotion that claws at his ribs, the awful heat that builds in his throat, behind his eyes. He cannot (and will not) ever understand it.

He is the one to initiate the hug. The last. (The first.)

It is such a desperate, clawing thing—Monsoon crumbles into him, smearing ash against his body. Monsoon is the one to wrap itself around him, because it knows that these are the last moments. It cannot muster the strength to clutch him as close as it would like, but it is not afraid. Why would it ever be? It's right here, where it began and where it will end, in the same arms that raised it. Fear has no place in its existence when Indigo is there.

I like to think if Durge has been around long enough they probably tried to talk to Abdel at least once. Like, this is a sibling that is so disowned that no one talks about him in the Temple despite all the ghosts (and one undead not ghost) siblings they have were defeated by Abdel.

He was also one of four Grand Dukes in Baldur's Gate.

I like to think, maybe in a moment of darkest fear of Bhaal, Durge reached out, wondering if there was a way to live without Bhaal.

What did they find? What did Abdel think? Did he know what was happening as Durge's murder sprees picked up? Did he see the rising faith of Bhaal and go oh damn, not again.

Is that why Viekang went and killed him?

Did Bhaal not trust his truest scion, flesh and blood that was literally his own, to murder the child that escaped all those years ago?

Anyways, it's fun to theory craft with connections to the old games and the other bits of Baldur's Gates stories. This isn't necessarily true if Abdel wasn't the Bhaalspawn played in the two other games so adjust as needed, but for someone who is only just getting into those games, Abdel seems the most likely choice I'd currently go with.

I think Coro did reach out to him, in 1482, the year he died, and I think Bhaal very much didn't like that.

He wouldn't suffer a second Abdel.

This footage was shot during two excavation seasons at Gordion, Turkey in 1951 and 1957. The Midas Mound was opened in 1957 by an archaeological team headed by Rodney Young who appears at the beginning of the film and makes a brief appearance as he pieces together decorative wall moldings. The footage from 1951 shows men from a local village building a mud brick house at the site. The workers used mules to haul away debris during excavation. Also captured on film are the first images of the opening of the Tomb of King Midas. Footage includes shots of King Midas skeleton, cauldrons, belts, safety pins, and metal bowls strewn about the grave. The footage from 1957 was shot by Samuel B. Just wanted to say that i loved Gordion Knot and Ridwell and he has such an enthralling thought process, the way you wrote him and the story got me caught up in his euphoria even as Beck died and the others were grieving. I love how Ridwell genuinely seems to just not get hung up on anyone else and is just going at his own pace (one far too fast far too reckless) and the implications of others that have survived past quota? that have escaped the company? that he somehow ended up well known enough that the Engineer knew of him? Your writing here has got me so good. And the ending. God the ending. Ridwell devoted to the company till he IS part of the company. The way the company was written, something in comprehensively massive, and it FEELS. it sees Ridwell and his devotion and it feels it and He becomes part of Them. The caressing, the juxtaposition of the friggin COMPANY tenderly wiping a tear, THE TEAR NOT EVEN BEING FROM SADDNESS AT DYING OR BETRAYAL, BUT THE FACT THAT RIDWELL COULDNMT WORK FOR THE COMPANY ANYMORE. How many times does Buddy's crew end up... replacing... the body that buddy uses? It happens at least once, as seen in nacham, but does it continue? do any rumors about their crew start?

(im bad at expressing how much joy i have at your series when i ask questions, but once again your fics are some of my favorite pieces of lethal company fanart ive seen)

(above screenshot was from a teammate asking a Buddy Lore Question that had been rambled about extensively in a server(it was whether or not Buddy could learn to talk(with a fresh host yes it could in theory speak for some time before the body deteriorates too much))) (very relevant photo)

Its host body will always wear out, as it decomposes and the mask roots eat away at it. The constant movement and exertion, extreme temperatures of the moons (especially the paid moons the crew typically go to), and stresses of daily Company life means every body lasts about three weeks. Though, the hosts last longer over time as Buddy gets more efficient with growing into the body and staving off rot.

There are so many people who work for the Company, and the death rate is so high, they are just as unknown as everyone else. People drop off the face of the universe all the time. Its crew get very good at replacing its host bodies.

Trial and error. When to send out a call for a new crew member, and the least populated Gordion ports to pick them up from. Keep the mask, sell the old corpse, so Buddy can stay in the ship. It trusts them to let itself be removed and kept safe in its dormant state for a period of time. Its crew are always so happy to see it "wake up" in a new body.

Here are my Lethal company Medic/Xenobiologist OCs, Nathaniel and Vultur! Nate is heavily involved in Copycat's story and Vultur is part of @lethalcontracts's retrieval crew. Some additional details of them below (a lot of text!)

The two are foils for each other and have a big rivalry going on given that they are in a similar field and have highly contrasting morals and approaches to their studies. They both have lost a crew in the past and it continues to affect them to this day. They also have their own labs on Gordion and get paid extra for any new data they can provide to the Company.

Nate is very gentle at heart despite his blunt and strict nature. While visiting the dangerous moons, he makes sure everything goes as planned and if there are signs of unexpected danger-- he will not hesitate to cancel the mission if it means the crew goes back home alive. Will teleport you back to the ship, just in case, a little too early, because it's better to be safe than sorry.

Although he has a lot of worry and compassion for others, he often remains calm in dangerous situations for the sake of others. He always has a sharp eye on the monitor and all of his team members and after losing his crew once, nobody has been left behind. Even if it means he will have to go inside to get them back himself. You can always rely on him to keep the team safe, whether it's practically by making sure everyone is out of the building in one piece or listening and soothing them after a scary situation.

He uses mainly stun grenades and always has a walkie-talkie with him. It is very important to him to be able to communicate with his team, and he wants to avoid causing harm to the creatures unless it's a life-or-death situation. "Stun and run", as he would say is better than risking your life in a fight.

Nathaniel is taking care of Copycat and although he claims he is just an assistant to him, he does care about the masked deeply. CC lets him study his body and brings him data on the creatures he encounters and in exchange, Nate has learned to pause his body's decaying process indefinitely. He also makes sure his colleagues don't get their hands on him and that the eager creature doesn't end up on missions that are too dangerous for him. They often swap places in their usual team depending on the danger level of the Moons. While CC is on the ship, Nate resides in his laboratory on Gordion and when it's his time to step in, CC returns to visit his creature friends on Rend.

Not everything is all sunshine and rainbows though, as Nate has been infected by an unknown creature for quite some time now. While he has managed to stabilize his condition in a way that the infection doesn't spread, it's not yet fully removed. He is trying to find out what caused it and how to cure it, if possible. This is kept a secret from everyone else, of course as he doesn't want to add more burdens on their shoulders. As a more lighthearted fact, he adores cute things. Especially cats. Which is partially the reason CC was named the way he is.

Vultur. Oh Vultur. Where Nate is full of gentle warmth he wants to share with others, this guy is a black hole that will only stare back at you coldly in your times of grief. After the loss of his team, he completely closed off emotionally. They hesitated once after that, and that caused him to lose half of his face to a Bracken, leaving scars that will forever remind them of their mistake. One they will not repeat ever again. He views feelings, especially during dire situations to be a distraction that must be dulled down. Something that shouldn't affect your decisions. It never leads to good things and he very much has personal experience of that.

After seeing his team convert because they couldn't kill their friend on time, he now seeks to know anything he can about the creatures of those snowy moons. Vultur will do anything they can to get that information. Whether it's locking masked into the ship and experimenting on them, or dragging them all the way back to Gordion to his laboratory-- nothing is off limits for them. They feel no remorse for what they do, as they still despise the maskeds who took his team from them. While he sees them as resources and more valuable alive, they won't hesitate to kill them on sight if they pose a danger to themselves or their team.

Most often Vultur uses a tranquilizer gun along with stun grenades to take down any Masked that wander in the ship. If he sees no value in them or there is the above mentioned danger, he will rip out the mask from their face and save it for later use. He is not above using regular shells either, so you will never truly know whether you're getting shot with a sedative or a life-ending bullet.

Just like Nate, Vultur remains calm in situations where many would otherwise stumble. Despite their cold nature, they do take good care of their crew and take pride in their work. No injuries go unnoticed and their team will be kept in top condition. Though they might think it's because untreated injuries pose a threat to the whole group and slow them down, there is still a heart deep down his chest. He doesn't want to lose another crew and while they aren't able to admit it to themselves, they do care. A lot more than they're comfortable with admitting.

Since she found this peculiar tragedy mask, she has been acting strangely…she became so obsessed with it she barely sleeps and eat. It’s as if some unknown forces or…something wants her whole attention, days after days..

She is not the same as she used to be, a kind-hearted and caring person who’d always look after her colleague. She was a really sweet person, often offering her help without any rewards in exchange. Sometimes on their trip to Gordion , she would even go and seek for possible injured employees from other adjacent teams.

But since she picked up this mask.. things started to change, she’s never been that much on her nerves, or even infuriated to a point where she’s close to cry out of anger. She never had a pretty harmonious relationship with her team. Most of the time, one of her colleagues (Meaj) is rather unsatisfied or disappointed in her work, stating that she should do much more than what she is already trying to accomplish. Peapaw always tries her best, but it’s never enough it looks like.. She sees no teamwork or a general sense of what they’re doing in every single tasks and missions. If there is no cooperation, their chance of survival is excessively low.

During a trip to Rend, her teammate (Val) was close by and knocked the mask of her hands, sending it flying across the room to shatter into pieces on impact. [see the comic ⬆️] Meaj and Val noticed that it wasn’t doing any good to Peapaw, and they both planned to destroy it, or rather turn it into something invaluable for her. Peapaw was..really mad. She became so obsessed with it and seeing break in front of her eyes just completely devastated her..

Sometimes later, Val and Peapaw had to split up, an order gave by Meaj, to gather more scraps beneficially to reach their quota. Time was flying fast, and so their fate was if the quota wasn’t reach on time.

Peapaw returned to pick up her fractured mask, HER precious mask. She snapped, finally succumbing to the mask’s temptation. She wasn’t aware it was watching her, sneaking from behind, a masked. This one found its way to convert her, not noticing that the tragedy mask was already latching into the face of this miserable asset, resulting in the new developing mask to form and fuse with the tragedy one.
