"It's quite simple, Gunvolt... I want a world where everyone is an Adept rather than a pathetic, powerless human. That's why if this succeeds, I can turn everyone in every dimension into Adepts! The humans who feared us for our power will be erased, whether it's from being made into the very thing they feared... Or be destroyed!"

"Quite the ambition you have there... You remind me of someone I used to work under... But whatever. I'll do my best to get these guys off your back while you continue the procedure..."

"No... I have a score to settle with Gunvolt. I'm fighting, too!"

"Suit yourself!"

The opposing sides clashed. It was Sync vs. Solo (Rogue), and Gunvolt vs Asimov.

Meanwhile where Roy was, his restrains were being removed by an invisible individual.

"Psst... Roy..." the individual said, "My name Elise... I'm a friend of Solo and Gunvolt's. I'm using an Invisible Chip right now. Quickly! Let's get you out of here while the enemy is distracted."

The Great CLAMP Re-Read Part 1: RG Veda

So, recently a friend of mine recommended I read the manga RG Veda as I've been interested in mythology retelling and getting back into reading more comics and manga. I've read a few CLAMP manga across the years but not all, and had always been curious to read Tsubasa, but always put it off because of all the cameos and meta. So this became an opportunity to try to get through their whole oeuvre.

I'm just putting my reviews on this blog since it's my "writing" blog. I managed to find two of the 2016 Dark Horse omnibuses to read RG Veda, and then completed the series with some quite poor scanlations (so if anyone has Omnibus 3 pls i want it). RG Veda came out in 1989 and was CLAMP's first official work, spanning 10 volumes (though the chapters are almost volume long, so it only comes out to about 10 actual chapters). Some spoilers here!

Synopsis: Based so loosely off the Hindu and Buddhist versions of the Rigveda, 300 years ago, Taishakuten kills the God-King and the God of War Ashura and takes the throne of Heaven, ruling with cruelty and an iron fist. But a prophecy arises that six stars will gather when Lord Yasha awakens Ashura's child (also called Ashura), who will bring down Taishakuten. As the wheels of fate turn, Yasha and Ashura gather allies with their own reasons for fighting, and attempt to avert tragedy and find reason to live - but all is not as it seems regarding Ashura and the prophecy.

The Story: Is RG Veda cliche? Yes. Does it compel me? Absolutely. It's dramatic and over the top and tragic and once you settle into the fact that everything is larger than life and obsessed with destiny and love and other grand motifs, because these are gods in a mythological story, I loved it. I want to read more sweeping comic epics. Some of the writing is cheesy but again, it works because the story knows it's not meant to be realistic! It's about the spectacle of this tale of the gods and their loves and sins. The start of the story is clunky since you're dropped into this world with a lot of moving parts and characters, but it had just enough intrigue to keep me reading. The story has a real strong driving force since it's a race towards the palace to kill the God King, while also being rather non-linear as we jump between locations, time periods, and characters to create this incredibly high-fantasy world. It's a little self-indulgent in taking us on side adventures for character development or fun, but this never gets boring or frustrating, every side character contributes to the themes and the story feels like its building appropriately. I'd say the only place the pacing falls apart is the ending, which is really rushed and has a TON of last minute revelations, which makes it hard to register everything. It still sticks the landing thematically, I just think it maybe needed more room to breathe to hit that poignant ending.

The Themes: It's really interesting to see how even this early on, CLAMP already had certain themes they would continue to explore in their work: the immutability of fate and our natures, the power, both good and evil, of love, and how it clashes with duty and promise and selfishness vs. selflessness. I wouldn't say RG Veda made me think about anything deep, but I do think it is mostly consistent in what it wanted to say and do, which is that love is the force that overturns fate, for good or ill, and that being loved by others and finding your community, can make life worth living despite its tragedy. Nobody deserves to be unwanted. There's also a lot of interesting interplay about our culpability in evil due to our birth, the duality of people, and holding onto our promises despite the destruction they cause.

The Characters: The characters are definitely highly archetypal but again, it works in the context of an attempt to write new mythology. I liked Ashura and Yasha decently, but they lacked a complexity. I did find Ashura's death-seeking nature to be compelling and wish it had been explored more in how they doom the world and are unwanted, but still deserve life. Yasha never quite grows beyond the stoic dark haired seme (his brother is wayyy more interesting) but I do think he had an interesting side to him in terms of dooming his people in order to protect Ashura, and what that means as king. The side characters are more complicated; I'm obsessed with the tragic pathetic nature of Taishakuten cannibalizing his lover to be with him yet lose him forever, I also really liked Kendappa, Kujaku, Kaara and Kumara, Ratetsu, and Karura and her sister. Ryuu was totally superfluous. I won't comment on whether this manga is good representation, CLAMP are fujoshis so you get what you expect.

The Art: The art is very late 80s/early 90s shojo, which isn't an issue once I got past the anatomy (though some of the anatomy is really off). It's such a pretty manga with gorgeous and creative paneling, and really gives the sense of a sweeping epic. The backgrounds are especially nice, as well as the costume design, everything is richly detailed and feels beautiful and dreamy. While CLAMP only knows how to draw one face, the character designs are still distinguishable and memorable. There are some issues with readability during action scenes but having read some of their other works, it's clear that they're just bad at drawing fight scenes. Some of the more elaborate panels are also lost in detail, but overall, it's pretty.

Questionable Elements: Ashura having no sex so that they can't reproduce and "pass on sin" feels iffy to me. The relationship between Yasha and Ashura is also hmm because Ashura is 300, but also stuck in a child's body because being who they are will doom the world, and Yasha raises Ashura and loves Ashura for who they are, so its clear from the ending they're meant to be lovers, but also the relationship is said to be father-child. It's definitely icky and while I understand thematically what they were trying to do with having Ashura be in a child form vs adult form for most of the series, they could have just made him an adult the whole time. Ugh.

Overall: A beautiful, entertaining, tragic spectacle that tries to create a sweeping mythological epic that mostly sticks the landing, with some truly interesting characterizations going on. Some heavy pacing issues at the rough start and end, and it's not groundbreaking or necessarily progressive, but worth a read all the same, if nothing for the incredible panelwork, the mythopoetic scale, and the unique ultra-high fantasy world. Definitely a new CLAMP favourite for me.

Suddenly, there was a loud explosion.

"General Serpentine! What was that?!"

"Intruders, Lord Brevon! Solo and Gunvolt have Broken into the Dreadnought!"

Breaking through the door was Solo and Gunvolt.

"Hands off my apprentice!"

"Oh... I'm afraid you're too late. The procedure is already done.You're apprentice is already an Adept..."

Gunvolt's eyes widened when he saw who it was who did the procedure.

"You...! It can't be...!!"

"Well, if it isn't my old pal, Gunvolt..."

Happy Birthday, Sonic!

(I'm still on hiatus, but wanted to wish my favorite blue video game character, other than Mega Man, a happy birthday. I also wanted to give you all a preview of the next Paradox Muse to appear when I get back.)

A Dimensional Gateway opens up, and flying out of it is a strange looking sword that strikes Scourge.

"What the...?! It can't be...!"

The owner of the strange sword emerged from the Dimensional Gateway, the sword disappearing from the ground next to Scourge and reappearing in the owner's hand.

"So who are you supposed to be? My Heartless or something? Eh, doesn't matter. All I know is the Multiverse doesn't belong to you, buddy!"

Rift. Given how big Slur's army is getting, a nuke would be the most efficient way of dealing with her. I understand she's your sister, but she has no hope of redemption given her evil deeds and her willingness to orchestrate this whole ordeal. If you use a nuke, the multiverse will be spared from her wrath and this war will be over before it begins.

I am aware of the disadvantages as you will lose your sister, Teseo will be dead and Nanami will never see her again, but this might be the only option to reduce casualties and avoid innocent people being killed.

"Just because my core was placed in the body of Copy X, doesn't mean I share his ideals. I will not just simply kill them! Even if Symphony is gone forever..."

(Slur suddenly appears.)

"And this is why you won't win, baby brother. You're far too soft. If you'd just realize how much of a superior being you are to the people you want to save so badly, you and I could rule the Multiverse together."

"Never. I will not rule the Multiverse. I will protect it from those like you who plan to bring it harm."

"If that's the case, then why not take that mortal's advice? Why not send a nuke to destroy us while our guard is down? Why not end this war before it begins?"

"Because... I still have hope for you, Symphony. If Duo and I... And even ARiA can come to love the worlds we watch over enough to protect them... Then so can you, my sister..."

"...You're an optimistic fool, RiFT. Symphony is gone. I am Slur, and I will win this war and rule the Multiverse."

"So ARiA already has you up to date with the whole Paradox Dimensions thing. I was a little surprised with the multiverse creating dimensions that were a combination of two or more different universes myself. And this is coming from a hedgehog who traveled to different worlds before meeting ARiA."

"A boy named Sora came to visit some time ago, and he had a Keyblade, too. So we know how powerful it is. It will be awesome having a Keyblade Master like you on our team, your majesty."

"Thanks, little guy... But no need for the formalities. You can just call me 'Sonic.' I'll do everything in my power to help you guys keep the Multiverse safe."

Multiverse War Part 7

In order to help with the Multiverse War, Mr. Tinker returned to his original dimension to see if he could grab some robots who could help fight Slur's army. Things would not be like last time, because he was no longer defenseless. With him was his boy, Terios, along with Gamma and Emerl to back him up. Despite this, they wanted this mission to go as quick as possible. Dr. Starline still wanted his blood for "murdering" Dr. Eggman, after all.

"You sure about this, Mr. Tinker? If Dr. Starline took control of your robots, doesn't that mean we won't have any to bring back?"

"I know... This is a long shot. But I'm hoping there's at least one robot Dr. Starline didn't know about. I want to help our team win this Multiverse war as much as possible..."

"Should we check with Metal Sonic... I mean Shard. You said he helps fight against Dr. Starline, right?"

"That's true, Terios," Mr. Tinker said, "But I need him to look after Belle for me. I need to know she's safe while I'm away."

"EVEN IF WE DON'T FIND A ROBOT ALLY, I BELIEVE WE CAN STILL WIN THIS WAR. OUR NUMBERS HAVE GROWN BEFORE SLUR HAS EVEN STARTED PUTTING TOGETHER AN ARMY."

"Oh, I wouldn't be so sure of that, my friend," a familiar voice said from behind them.

Turning around, they saw Dr. Starline. However, he wasn't alone. With him were Eggman Nega, as well as a robot he hadn't seen in awhile.

"Greetings, Mr. Tinker. I hope you don't mind me using this fellow as my equivalent to your Metal Sonic."

"..."

"Metal Knuckles..." Mr. Tinker said as he looked at the robot Knuckles doppelganger.

"Whoa! You made a robot version of that knucklehead?" Emerl asked, "How come I never seen him around?"

"I locked him away ever since Metal rebelled and became Neo Metal Sonic," Mr. Tinker answered, "Even though I was able to reprogram Metal Sonic with absolute loyalty, I felt at the time that I couldn't keep track of two Metal Series robots and just focused on Metal Sonic rather than reprograming Metal Knuckles as well."

"A foolish oversight on your end, dear ancestor... Because you decided to discard it instead of fixing it, Dr. Starline had no trouble reprogramming Metal Knuckles to be absolutely loyal to him. I must say, with skills like his, it's no wonder Slur sent me to recruit him."

Recruit? That explains it. Nega is working for Slur, and now it seems Dr. Starline will be working for her as well.

"I must say, I was quite the fool for ever looking up to your former identity, Mr. Tinker. I've come to learn that Eggman Nega here is a far more superior Eggman than you ever were. I guess it's somewhat fortunate for you, though. I no longer hold that grudge against you for 'murdering' that has-been. And Slur seems to know what she's doing if she's recruiting those with armies like the Eggman Empire..."

Of course. That what Dr. Starline was referring to earlier. Slur's team may be small when it came to main members, but if most of them were leaders of an army, than their combined forces would create the biggest army in the universe.

"With that said, you are still on the enemy team. I can't just let you go after breaking in here now, can I?"

The platypus was quick to sick Metal Knuckles at Mr. Tinker and his team. It didn't take long for Terios and the other robots to defend the reformed genius.

"You're not touching my father!" Terios said as he changed into his Green Grenade Style and shot the Knuckles lookalike. However, it didn't seem to do much.

"You didn't honestly believe I reprogrammed Metal Knuckles but not take the opportunity to give him upgrades, did you?" Dr. Starline said with a mischievous grin.

Metal Knuckles countered with a Megaton Punch that sent the Shadow Android flying. Emerl ran at sonic speed to try and catch him, while Gamma initiated battle mode.

"NOW ENGAGING ENEMY UNIT! MISSION: PROTECT MR. TINKER!"

Gamma threw powerful punches at Metal Knuckles, putting up a good fight against the robot echidna.

"You're not the only one who's been upgrading his robots, Dr. Starline," Mr. Tinker said, "Gamma is a new and improved robot from his early days. I'm sure he can even give Omega a run for his money."

"I admit, I'm impressed," Starline said, slowly clapped his hands, "Even if you're still the inferior Eggman, you're still a genius in your own right. However, you seemed to have forgotten something..."

Before he knew it, Mr. Tinker and Gamma were surrounded by enemy Eggman Robots.

"This place belongs to me now, and all the robots you left here are under my command. Well, save for Metal Sonic and those two lackey robots. I always suspected those two were loyal to you. I should have reprogrammed them instead of falling for their sudden allegiance to me. Had it not been for Metal Sonic rescuing them, I would have had my chance to punish them for their little stunt."

Mr. Tinker let out a sigh of relief upon hearing that Orbot and Cubot were safe. He was afraid they would have either been reprogrammed, or worse... Dismantled.

"Anyhow, it doesn't matter how strong your robots are. I doubt they can take on an entire army. I suggest you surrender and accept your fate. We've clearly won the battle today.

"Don't count us out just yet!"

Blasting through the horde of robots were Terios and Emerl. With their combined efforts, along with Gamma by their side, they were able to take down quite a few of Starline's forces. However, the army just continued to grow, and they began to become overwhelmed. Mr. Tinker began to panic... But not for his own life this time. No, he was worried about his boys. Even though they came to protect him, Mr. Tinker couldn't forgive himself if one of them were killed in battle.

I need to call for backup, Mr. Tinker thought to himself.

And before he could even activate his communicator, a dimensional rift opened above them. Did RiFT see what was going on and send backup ahead of time? But then again, something was different about this rift. The color was different, being more of a purplish pink rather than its usual indigo. Was this Slur's dimensional gateway? But them again, RiFT described her gateways as a blue-green color. Who's rift was this?!

It did not take long for someone to jump out, and he was a complete stranger to Mr. Tinker. But judging from Starline and Nega's face, they had no idea who he was, neither.

"Are you... For us?" the platypus asked, "Or for Mr. Tinker?"

"..."

The stranger didn't answer. He just looked sternly at Dr. Starline, then at Eggman Nega, who began to look a little worried. It was clear he didn't view them as allies. The mysterious robot boy then looked at Mr. Tinker. Unlike the evil scientists, he gave the reformed genius a warm, reassuring smile, as if saying "Don't worry. I'm on your side." However, there was something more to it... It was almost as if he was greeting an old friend. But Mr. Tinker knew he never met this robot boy before...

The boy landed where Emerl, Terios, and Gamma were, ready to fight by their side.

"Well, it's clear he's with them," Nega said, "No need to hesitate, Starline. Destroy him along with the others."

"With pleasure," said the platypus, "Robots! Attack!"

The Eggman robots charged at Mr. Tinker's team once again. It was at this moment that the robot boy finally spoke.

"Hey. You have the ability to copy abilities, right?" he asked Emerl.

"Yeah. It's a Gizoid thing," Emerl answered, "Did RiFT tell you that?"

"Yes, and no," the boy said, "I'll explain later. Just watch what I can do, alright?"

"Sure. I could use some more abilities," said Emerl.

The android flew into the air again before dashing down into a horde of robots like a homing missile. All robots who made contact with him were destroyed in an instant.

"Whoa!" Emerl shouted with excitement, "That's like a Super Homing Attack! If only Sonic could see that!"

After the cheering, Emerl continued to observe the boy's dash attack until it was registered in his memory bank. The Gizoid then began dashing into robots just like the boy. With two of them performing this attack, it made taking out the robot army a little faster and easier. With that said, it was only four of them taking on an army. How long would they be able to last.

"It doesn't matter that an additional member joined you!" Starline said, "It's only a matter of time before my army gets the upper hand, and you all perish..."

Beep! Beep! Beep!

Nega's communicator was getting a call from Slur.

"Nega! What's taking you so long?! Did you get Starline to join us?"

"Yes, Lady Slur," Nega answered, "We just had a run in with some of our adversaries is all."

"Well, put it on hold. The time will come to destroy them. But right now, we need you and Starline over here! The other recruit isn't cooperating! Teseo and Analogman's hacking is keeping him under control for now, but his resistance is strong! Obake will need your help in reprogramming him!"

"Very well," said Nega, "We'll be right there."

After Nega ended the call, Starline let out a sigh.

"It seems we'll have to postpone our battle," he said, "I really was looking forward to seeing you crushed by the very robots you built... But perhaps another time."

Using the device Slur gave him, Nega opened a portal back to base, with Starline, Metal Knuckles, and the remaining Eggman Robots following him. Mr. Tinker could finally breathe after the portal closed. Everyone was safe, thanks to this mysterious stranger.

"Thank you," Mr. Tinker said, "I don't know who you are, but you helped us last a little longer."

Mr. Tinker reached an arm out for a handshake.

"I'm Mr. Tinker. Glad to have you on the team..."

What the reformed genius didn't see coming was instead of a handshake, the robot boy embraced him. What he said only surprised him even more.

"Father... I thought I would never see you again..."

Father? Mr. Tinker would have remembered building this boy if he were truly his creator. But this boy sounded so genuine. Despite being a robot, he spoke like a boy finally seeing his long lost father. He was like Belle and Terios; He was a robot with a heart. It may not sound like something Eggman would build, but it definitely sounded like he was a creation of Mr. Tinker's.

"I... I'm sorry, my boy..." Mr. Tinker said, "But I'm afraid you have me confused with..."

"No, it's okay," said the android, "I know you aren't the Mr. Tinker of my dimension... It's just... Good to see your face again after so long."

This was just like when Mr. Tinker met the Belle from a different dimension. Despite knowing she was a different Belle, he still considered her his daughter. Despite understanding what this boy was feeling, he didn't understand how he doesn't know of his existence. Surely, if there was a Mr. Tinker in his dimension, then would there be a version of this robot boy in his own dimension as well? Mr. Tinker couldn't explain it, but there was something "off-worldly" about him, like he didn't really belong in this universe. And yet, he's calling Mr. Tinker "father?"

It seemed Terios liked the idea, as he was tugging on the robot boy's arm like a little kid would to a big brother he looked up to.

"Does this mean... You're my brother?" the Shadow Android asked.

"If Mr. Tinker made you, then yes... And no."

"Here we go again..." Emerl said, "You told us you'd explain later. I think now is a good a time as any."

"It will be best to explain everything when we meet up with RiFT," the robot boy said, "But I will give you a short version of it right now; My name is Rodea, and I come from a Paradox Dimension."

"Seriously, who's side are you on?! Are you trying to increase Slur's forces?"

"Maybe Super Sentai Fan is actually a spy for Slur. That's why he's always trying to get someone to use that chip."

"Wait, are you serious?!"

"Nah! I'm just kidding. It's probably just a joke on Super Sentai Fan's end as well. I'm sure we don't have a single spy here."

"Good. I was almost paranoid for a second."

"Yeah. That would be scary, wouldn't it? But anyway, why don't we get something to eat over at Welch's shop?"

"Sure! I'd like that."

"Have fun, you two!"

Once Geo and Sonia left, and the coast was clear, Megaman(?) spoke to someone on a communicator.

"So far, I haven't been detected, Lady Slur. I got all the intel on RiFT's team that you asked for."

"Good work, Dark Mega," said Slur on the other end, "Now, return to base before their Megaman gets back. We can't have you getting caught."

Dark Mega left the scene immediately. What will happen next...?

Star Crossed Gamers Part 1

(A Late Valentine's Day Special Drabble.)

"Yo! Nana!"

Not seeming to care that he's technically on enemy territory, Teseo called out to the love of his life, who was sitting at one of the dining tables of the Item Creation Shop. Oddly enough, no one was acting surprised that he showed up, let alone hostile.

"Oh. Hello, Teseo."

She greeted him like an old friend. (Despite her eyes glued to her game as she greeted him, it still felt so genuine.) Sure, they've played online videogames together, but being on opposite sides of the Multiverse War, they should be acting like enemies, right? Teseo wasn't going to complain, though. In fact, he doubt he'd be able to stand his dream girl being antagonistic towards him. But Nana... She was one in a million. The Hacker Adept sometimes wondered if this girl even knew the concept of what an enemy was.

"So... U mind if I sit here...?"

"Not at all. Go ahead."

Boy, this was still hard to get used to. Is Nana literally the nicest person in the world? Was she even human? As his thoughts were running through his head, a certain Aqua Navi appeared.

"Hello, sir. Can I interest you in a Cyber Slushy, blip?"

Cyber Slushy? That sounded dope! Was it like a slushy made of data or something? With abilities like Teseo's that sounded like something up his ally.

"Sure, little guy," Teseo answered, "You have a Lemon Lime flavor?"

"We sure do, blip," the fish bowl headed Navi said, "Will that be your order?"

"Yep! That sounds good!"

"Very well. I'll be right back, blip."

Funny. He's treated like a customer rather than an enemy. Yet, it didn't seem as weird when the Aqua Navi acted kind. Maybe it's because he cared about how Nana thought of him much more than everyone else.

"So, uh..." Teseo was a bit awkward with speaking to Nana, "I really wanted to thank you for the new computer. I actually got attacked by some jerk who calls themselves 'HorrorHacker.' They completely destroyed my old computer because of that..."

"I remember Slur saying something about that some time ago," Nana said, still in the conversation while playing her Game-Girl Advanced, "You even said they made Sync crush your speakers."

"Oh! You remembered that!"

Nana nodded. Teseo was surprised she actually payed attention even back then. They haven't started playing online games together until like... Around a week later when he stumbled upon her and Elise in a game of Lazy Kingdom. What were the odds of that? But then again, she remembered his name when they introduced themselves, but he just assumed Elise or Gunvolt told her who he was since they had a history together.

"I'm glad you like the computer, Teseo. Welch sells almost everything here, and she really knows her computers. She promised it was the best multipurpose computer you can find."

"Really?" Teseo asked, "#SWEET!🍬 But... How did you afford such a computer? I know the owner is part of the team and all, but I doubt she'd just give it to you..."

"I work here part time," Nana answered, "Many of us do. And the pay is very good, and I was working here for awhile now. It wasn't difficult raising enough money for your computer. Plus, Welch loves giving discounts, and being an employee helps."

If it weren't for the fact that he was on the enemy team, Teseo would have considered getting a job here as well. But then again, turning the money in ATM machines into data and placing it in his computer, only to turn it back to physical money when he gets home was faster and easier. Definitely less moral, though, which he didn't really care too much about until meeting Nana. Better not tell her that he makes money by stealing from ATM machines just to make sure it doesn't ruin this oddly good relationship.

Around that time, the water Navi came with his drink.

"Here you are, sir," the Navi said with a smile, "Enjoy, blip!"

After the little water dude left, Teseo took a sip from his straw. Definitely one of the most flavorful slushies he ever tasted. He wouldn't have even guessed it was made of data. Not even he could make a data slushy this good, and his Septima is literally turning physical objects into data and vice versa. Of course, he wasn't really a chef or anything, so maybe that's why.

"I was afraid I wouldn't be able to play videogames with you," Teseo said, "I kind of need my computer for that. Maybe I ought to actually pick up some game consoles or something..."

"That's not a bad idea," said Nana, "You could even increase your library of games that way. There are many that are exclusive to certain consoles."

Nana sure knew how to multitask. Despite her eyes being glued to her game, she was also listening to Teseo intently. She never had to tell him that she missed something or ask him to repeat himself. She always knew how to respond.

"Sooooo..." Teseo wanted to keep the conversation going as an excuse to stay longer, "What 'cha playin'?"

"Gala-Omega," Nana answered, "It's one of my favorite ga..."

She suddenly stopped, her smile disappearing.

"...It was... Chiaki Nanami's favorite game. It's only mine because of her memories. I wonder if I'd have even liked videogames if everyone's memories of her didn't enter the Neo World Program, and I didn't take her form..."

"Wait... Neo World Program?" Teseo was beginning to put two and two together, "Does this mean... You're an A.I. copy of this Chiaki Nanami person?"

Nana nodded. This was a little surprising for Teseo to hear. From Dark Mega's intel, and from the fact that RiFT had similar abilities to Slur, this pocket dimension allows anyone to enter, whether they're people or programs. It was an easy mistake to think she was one of the humans since she looked like a normal person rather than a program. If Teseo was any other Adept, this would have served as a problem for him. But with his ability to turn physical people and objects into data and vice versa, it was no problem. In fact, it was perfect! He could date her in both the real world and the digital world without a problem... So long as she said yes anyway...

Wait a minute... She was an A.I., and he was a master hacker. If he really wanted to, Teseo could just hack her mind and reprogram her to love him! He could get his dream girl super easy without worrying about being rejected, and...

...

No... He couldn't do that... Not to her. Teseo may not be the best person in the world. In fact, he was on the villain team of the Multiverse War. Just because it sounds fun and could help him turn the universe into a giant videogame he could play for his amusement. There were many bad things he's done for his amusement or his benefit. But taking away the free will of this wonderful girl, A.I. or not, was going too far. Plus... It wouldn't be worth it if she didn't genuinely love him back...

There was an awkward silence between the two afterwards. Maybe having her remember the girl she's based on was a sensitive subject or something. From how she put it, Nana's memories comes from the memories of this Chiaki girl... Or was it more like her memories came from how Chiaki's friends remembered her. Nana may have given herself a new name, but does that truly mean she was truly a separate person from from Chiaki, or was she still Chiaki 2.0 despite the new name. Did she feel like her life wasn't really hers? That her memories wasn't really hers? That everyone on RiFT's team only saw Chiaki, and not Nana?

"...You're Nana to me," Teseo said.

"Huh...?" Nana asked, finally looking at Teseo instead of her game.

"I may have never met the real Chiaki before, but I don't think it matters. The person who joined RiFT's team was Nana, not Chiaki. So what if you like similar things to her? I don't think that means you can't be Nana."

The gamer girl just looked at Teseo, blinking a couple of times while she did.

"Yeah, I guess you're right. That was super cheesy..."

"No... That's not it," Nana said, "I just..."

Nana fell silent again.

"...Thank you, Teseo," she finally said, "Ever since I became Nana... I found myself wanting to be my own person rather than just a Chiaki copy as the days went by. When I discovered that the Chiaki of my dimension was still alive and was happy with all her friends... And especially with Hajime... I felt a sense of relief that she survived... But I also realized that with her around, there was no reason for me to be a replacement Chiaki anymore. They all had the real Chiaki... And I'm just an A.I. that looks and kind of acts like her... With a few difference here and there, apparently..."

"See! There you go!" Teseo cut in, "If you were really just Chiaki 2.0, you would act exactly like her. But you just admitted to having a few difference. That's more than enough to make you a different person from her!"

Wow. This was the first time Teseo ever gave anyone a pep talk. It's a bit weird when you're usually known for trolling people. It's even weirder that he met someone he would never troll in his life.

"And plus," Teseo continued, "Despite looking just like her and sharing her hobbies, can Chiaki say that she got to team up with a bunch of super people like Adepts and Net Navis?"

Nana blinked before giving Teseo a smile. It was a small smile, but a beautiful one nonetheless.

"I guess not..." she said, "What's more, many of my friends on this team are videogame characters in my dimension. Chiaki would consider this a dream come true if she were here instead of me."

Teseo honestly wasn't surprised about that information. Especially since he saw some Pokemon on Nana's team, and he occasionally played Pokemon Go. He began to wonder if he was a videogame character in some dimensions. Who knows? Maybe in an ironic twist, the Chiaki girl and Nana were videogame characters in different dimensions as well. The Multiverse was a vast and strange place after all.

...

Boy. As simple as this was, it was really nice to be able to sit and talk with Nana in person. But at the same time, something about it didn't feel right. Specifically, he didn't feel like he deserved this nice moment with a girl his team may have to kill to win the Multiverse war. Part of him was glad to have finally met his dream girl, but another part of him felt like he should have never met her.

"Hey, Nana," Teseo said, "I really need to ask..."

But before he could finish, his communicator went off, and an angry Slur was on the other end.

"TESEO!!" Slur shouted, "The Dreadnought was attacked, and you're over on the enemies side because of a childish crush?!"

"Hey!" Teseo shouted back, "I'm here thanking Nana for the new computer she gave me! It's called being grateful!"

"Hah! Since when did a troll like you started acting like a gentleman?! But that doesn't matter right now. We need you back here this instant!"

"Can't I just have five more minutes...?"

"THIS INSTANT, TESEO!! You're already on thin ice for being friendly with the enemy when I repeatedly told you not to! You better believe there will be a punishment for you soon enough!"

Teseo smirked when he heard the words "soon enough."

"...You couldn't come up with a punishment you could actually give me, could you?"

"SHUT UP AND GET BACK HERE!! Slur shouted, "NOW!!"

"Sure thing, MOM," Teseo cheekily replied.

Teseo could hear Slur letting out an annoyed scream before he hung up on her. He had a big smile on his face after trolling the big bad leader like that, but that smile quickly vanished the moment he realized he had to leave Nana. And without finishing his question, too."

"Sorry. I have to go," Teseo said, "Mommy dearest is calling."

"I understand," Nana said, as her eyes went back to her videogame, "I'll see you later."

"Yeah..." said Teseo, "#C U LATER. 👋"

Teseo got up from his chair and began to go on his way.

"And Teseo... Don't be a stranger."

That surprised the Adept a bit. If he didn't know any better, it was as if Nana was trying to say that he really wants to see him again. Not knowing how to respond, Teseo just nodded and continued on his way.

"Somehow... Someway... I'll repay your kindness to me, Nana."
