a dude my ma works with at amazon died of a stroke on the job because they force them to work in hot conditions and they refused him water. they bring in modified temperature readers so they can say "see, it's a safe temperature in here, all up to code uwu" but someone snuck in their own temp reader and it was much hotter than they claim it is.

it was ninety degrees Fahrenheit. heavy lifting for several hours at a time, no water, in 90 degree loading docks.

Also tried to ignore any sort of teasing, obnoxious look he’d throw her way. “I’ve come to uphold the tradition of giving presents on this day. While I could tell you what it is, you should investigate this... mysterious package for yourself.” ...It had sounded much more eloquent in her head.

Akira didn't immediately turn from the bags he was restocking at the sound of the bell above Leblanc's door. But upon hearing Naoto's voice, the teen spun around and greeted her with a warm smile. He hadn't anticipated her arrival -- nor the gift in her possession. His smile faltered, falling agape until she finished speaking, and amusement trickled into it again.

Setting the bag of coffee he was holding back into the shipping box it came from, he stepped closer to stand directly across from Naoto and her "mysterious package" : neat and orderly and waiting to be unwrapped.

Akira blinked harshly to silence the demon, whose laughter rippled in the fires of his heart. Instead clearing his throat and lifting the present from the counter to inspect it closer. ❝ And a Happy Christmas to you as well, Shirogane-san. ~ ❞ Akira chuckled softly as he turned it over in his hands, finding the seam along the back. They could tell she spared no effort in wrapping the gift perfectly. From its size and shape, and the way it drummed beneath their fingers, it was difficult to say for sure. Too thin to be in a box, to thick to be in a case. He did not rip it apart, but pried up the taped edges carefully, and pulled the item from its paper sleeve.

An . . . unexpectedly thoughtful gift. Akira ran his fingers over the embossed hardcover, flicking the book open not a moment later to page through its contents. Beautifully organized, peppered with a variety of songs and styles and with a whole section of pages in the back for him to write his own sheet music.

Akira closed the book and held it to their chest as they snapped their gaze back up to Naoto, and smiled at her once more.

❝ I could kiss you, ❞ he said, all too casually, setting the book back down onto its wrapping before making a beeline for the stairs, calling behind him : ❝ BUT ! I have something you might appreciate more than that ! ❞

After rummaging upstairs for less than a minute, Akira re-emerged with a mysterious package of his own. A gift bag instead of a box, since it came in its own case courtesy of Iwai. Deep, glossy blue with delicate silver accents embellishing the sides and bleeding into the satin handles. Buried under a bed of woad colored tissue was a box containing a model Nambu revolver, nearly identical to the one strapped to Naoto's hip. Only the metal was tinted with cobalt, and the handle engraved with the Phantom Thieves' logo.

❝ I know you of all people don't need one, ❞ Akira explained as he leaned on the bar again, propping his chin against his fist. ❝ But, as a member of the team, I felt it was only fair for you to have one of your own. Even if you don't use it, I figured you might consider it a token of appreciation. For, you know . . . not arresting me. ❞
