"Do you not know that a person is not dead while their name is still spoken?" - Sir Terry Pratchett
My mother was an artist of prolific habits, turning her hand to clay, canvas, oils, paints, stones and words. Fantasy filled her veins.
Her skills of creativity and imagination were only shadowed by her love, kindness and community, sharing what little she had with friends, neighbours, family and strangers.
She was encouraging, welcoming, inspiring, forgiving and supportive. As her son, I could not ask for a better parent, or grandparent to my own child.
My mum had a reach that included friends across the globe, from every single walk of life, and would help any who asked for it.
Now on her behalf, I ask if you could help her, and who she has left behind as she walks the black sands. The expenses of even a sparse funeral are beyond our means, and it will take time to properly catalogue, archive and distribute her creations and possessions. Whatever you can spare will go towards the funeral, as well as a temporary storage solution so that we are not rushed in the time it will take.
She was our Nanny Ogg, and will honour her as best we can. With mirth and merriment.

I finished The Bromeliad Trilogy by Terry Pratchett. Pratchett is still one of my favourite authors of all time! I’m fairly sure I read the first two books of this trilogy (Truckers and Diggers) when I was in secondary school but I have no recollection of reading the last (Wings), I fancied a cosy read so I immediately reached for this book. The trilogy follows a group of “Nomes” who are originally from another world that now live amongst humans. Upon discovering their origin, they go on a quest to return to their home. These stories are typical of Pratchett. Whilst spinning a fantastic children’s yarn about “Nomes” on an adventure he slips in many real-world and adult issues that the characters have to deal with. This is something that all the great children’s books do, but something that Pratchett does particularly well. When presenting topics like Feminism and the wrongness of lessening women’s capabilities by society, Pratchett works it into the story so naturally and adeptly. The “Nomes” deal with vast societal changes in these stories and the characters reactions are superbly portrayed. It’s true of any change in the real world that people will have varying reactions and even varying levels of acceptance. The Bromeliad Trilogy shows these reactions to be, not implicitly bad or good, but simply a normal reaction to anything that anyone could have given their life experiences. Pratchett doesn’t hand-wave away dogma, however, but instead shows that anyone can come to a realisation that society has changed past what they knew previously in their life. He argues that they can either contextualise their beliefs within what society has now become and open themselves up to new experiences or hold on dogmatically to their previous opinions and be left behind. Trust me though, the book isn’t as heavy as all that. It’s still a very witty and enjoyable book aimed at younger readers! #books #bookstagram #terrypratchett #thebromeliadtrilogy #sirpterry #gnuterrypratchett https://www.instagram.com/p/CiFmQDmsi0a/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Today would have been Terry Pratchett's 75th Birthday. Now that would have been an epic party!
We miss him every day and you'll be able to hear us talk about him on BBC Radio Five on Monday night from midnight.

Overhead, a lilac tree was in bloom.
Damn! Damn! Damn! Every year he forgot. Well, no. He never forgot. He just put the memories away, like old silverware that you didn't want to tarnish. And every year they came back, sharp and sparkling, and stabbed him in the heart.
-Guards Guards, by Terry Pratchett.
