Before Covid-19, it was normal to invite family, friends, and neighbors over for a celebration event like Christmas, Eid, even birthdays and anniversaries. But as soon as the pandemic hit, people looked at alternatives. Zoom meetings sprung up and people found it to be the new normal to have activities and traditional celebrations online; through a screen.

Soon, the whole world had been influenced by virtual sessions and families very often did meetings with each other, even if they were just a minute's drive away. It was almost as if it had become culture. After the vaccines started rolling out, it was anticipated that physical meetings would start taking place again, like it was pre-covid. That, as it turned out, was not the case. People preferred meeting through zoom to being there physically. It had indeed become an online culture. And a very convenient one.

A fair share of people expressed themselves by designing their own virtual background. Designs of backgrounds had become common as people chose to express themselves. Cultural rules were also bent and amended to adapt to this era, and the way people expressed themselves changed. People wouldn't want to show their whole face, so would only show the top of their head. Everyone was getting used to being able to choose what others could see, which changed the way we expressed ourselves.

An example of a festival that has been affected is the French festival called Fête de la Musique. During the Covid pandemic, it had to be limited and had to adapt to lockdown measures. Only 5,000 people were allowed to gather together, but that didn't stop people from celebrating the festival from their own houses.

Culture has also been protected and circulated. Through the increasing use of social media, platforms have been designed and used to talk about different cultures and showcase different cultures. Social media apps like Instagram and Facebook have become popular to spread awareness about cultures that are close to extinction.

I believe that learning about cultures and how culture has been affected only gets informative when you learn through the lens of different subjects. Through design and language, I was able to understand how culture had been affected throughout the world and how each subject. When you look at something from just one perspective, the you get information isn’t as credible or viable because you are just learning about one part of the topic. So, I think that interdisciplinary understanding is essential for any topic.
