accidentally browsing a (very niche) female-dominated gaming space and seeing people TEAR into people who want an option to change the player character's pronouns to he/him or they/them without changing anything else because it'd invite men to invade a safe space. For a game purely about dating men. Like, I've been through plenty of female-dominated spaces where queer people and similar-interest straight men are welcome (in this case it'd be bi men but yknow), so it's just this one community, but jeez. The amount of fear that anyone who isn't explicitly a femme female would come in and A. hit on the faceless women there or B. taint the game by making the devs add designs of men who they don't want to date?
I got such a strong terf-y rhetoric from that community, like we can't have anything in common with people who aren't like us going on. All about taking 'our' things. And a lot of people contradicting one other but not trying to find out what the truth is because they have the same conclusion. Like two people saying A>B or B>A and no argument arises and no one shows interest in which is true because both people conclude C.
A lot of people even saying that, likewise, things that appeal to female or queer audiences should NOT be added to mainstream media just like queer content should not be added to female-oriented media. These hard walls around what belongs to who is like...they were raised by toy companies or something.
Like what is (paraphrasing so it isnt searchble) "I would never come into a male dominated community because I feel like I would be invading their safe space, so I don't get why men would want to come here and talk about liking men." At least the people who are scared of sexual abuse are warranted, I've seen tons of abusive language towards people they think are women in male dominated online spaces, but what is this fear of even...sharing interests with men? I know we've been in a new era of gender role enforcement with the tradfem movement, but jeez. And as for these last two points, they both are ones that were contradicted. People also said they do believe in diversity BUT just *this* shouldn't count.
Some people even said it's not fair that they get pushed to be more inclusive when mainstream media never does. Which makes me wonder if they're so deep in their niche 'I only experience content made by and for exclusively straight women' content that they haven't noticed any of the movements in media going on over the last 1.5 decades. Like it's true that we haven't made that much progress, but how do they think that no media gets pressed to increase diversity? The more rigid/right-leaning male audiences of tons of media have been complaining about forced diversity for years in exactly the same way (and sometimes, when it really WAS forced diversity, everyone complains because it's not representing anyone really but yknow). But I guess they wouldn't know that if all of them avoid mainstream media?
Also...what is the fear that gay men like men in a 'wrong' way...(and again, the unargued contradiction being plenty of people saying that they also like media about gay characters, but just they shouldn't make these characters gay)
And like I do get it, in the sense that being marginalized makes you skeptical and fearful of things you don't understand in its own separate way from how being in a privileged class makes you skeptical and fearful of things you don't understand. There's a lot more fear of exploring things different and new because the possible retribution feels/has been higher.
Honestly, this post isn't actually about a couple hundred to low-thousand women in a small community for niche games. Not like, I think it's important, I want to actively make them change. It's not that big a deal, not that surprising in the grand scheme. It's similar rhetoric to things i've seen before (Tradfem/terf). I've seen screenshots of, like, facebook mom groups before. And I've seen way bigger communities be way more open and welcoming, it's just a little outlier.
I'm just writing this because I'm a bit shellshocked because I forget how much that those kinds of people are not just the older, tech-illiterate generations, and not just shallow influencers who will say anything for the clicks (or because someone behind the scenes is funding it), their views behind the camera up in the air. Like I think I cultivate the people I interact with a bit too well. Too many of the people I actually interact with or witness the thoughts of regularly are queer and have flitting relationships with gender and then I remember the other side of the coin has people who think they're being progressive by suggesting that everyone who is different be segregated and therefore safe from each other with no room for intersectionality.
#for the record in other communities talking about the same game i saw several people sharing tips for making androgynous or slightly butch#characters which is the wholesomeness on the other side#ranting into the void#is this one of those situations of like#'the celebrity you call ugly will never see this but the person you know who shares those features will?'#but with 'The men who want to invade your safe spaces will never see this but the he/him butch and other queer people who are otherwise#generally your advocates in political and social spaces will'#also ngl being gay admittedly does make this so much easier#but i cannot imagine having the idea that#categorically#'you and your partner cannot have any interests in common' but so many do#And honestly I would have trouble believing that any women who says they're scared ofplaying or discussing a videogame#with a gnc or gay person- would say that irl they're not a terf and they would let gnc and trans people into the same public bathroom#like i can believe it because people hold lots of contradictory ideas but#if more than 20% of them said it i would think that was legitimately virtue signalling#because while i think trans panic is waaaaay less common than the media thinks#inside a community with those beliefs when they can talk anonymo usly#itd be a tough sell for me. I have to imagine most of those women are the kind who would find out their partner was bi#and start feeling uncomfortable about the state of their relationship- with the way they talk about how men can't enjoy female things like#dating men and such#ALSO there are more women than men#wtf do you mean mainstream media is only for straight men#straight adult men is#like 30-odd percent of the us tops#they got more purchasing power cus of sexism and homophobia and so on but#its so self defeating to think of mainstream media as exclusively the purview of straight men

Last anon here -- I'm sorry for sending that message through. I don't know what is and isn't true anymore.
I deleted what I presume was your first ask (the one accusing me of not condemning the Gaza genocide and calling me a "DNC shill and a liar") because it was rude, uncalled for, and I couldn't see any good to come of engaging with it. However, because you've returned and apologized and sent this followup, I am willing to answer it, because I am aware that we can all do stupid things (especially on the internet) that we regret. So there is that.
Once again: I have strictly limited my posts/reblogs on this topic because it is so inflammatory, there are reams of people willing to attack you on every side, and none of it is actually constructive (this is the blue hellsite where we have two whole jokes about Ea-Nasir and color theory in children's hospitals. We are not doing important social justice work here and expecting this to be the main/only forum in which we post the Correct Opinions is not going to work out for anyone). But I would like, for the record, to point out that I have condemned the situation in Gaza and explicitly called it a genocide and Netanyahu and co. war criminals. Often and repeatedly:
Ask from October 28, 2023:
What’s happening to the Gazans right now is no qualification or equivocation, a genocide. It should rightfully be opposed and called what it is. But unfortunately, I have spent too much time around Western Online Leftists to believe they actually care a whit about stopping genocide as a fundamental principle, and only want to be seen to loudly care about what their Ideology has told them to care about. [...] To put it bluntly, those genocides are being committed by nation-states that Online Leftists like for being “anti-Western,” and therefore their activities are actually fine and should even need to be defended.
Another post from December 2023 explicitly calling out Netanyahu and his cabinet, while also pointing out that Tumblr's response now mostly consisted of antisemitic dogwhistles and rampant political misinformation:
[...] the way Netanyahu is personally a genocidal maniac with a far-right cabinet of war criminals and is bent on continuing the war in order to escape his own criminal prosecutions (and yes, he is HIGHLY affiliated with Trump and Putin) but this somehow still does not remotely justify or excuse the rampant frothingly mindless and generalized anti-Semitism seen everywhere on leftist spaces these days [....]
An ask from January 10th, 2024 (worth probably reading in full) where I once more say that nobody wants this to be happening, but that once again, the criticism in Western leftist forums (particularly Tumblr/Twitter) is not made equally or in good faith :
Nobody of basic good sense and decency wants to see Gaza leveled while the Israeli state continues to apply a number of violently cruel collective punishments even outside the actual daily bombing of civilians. But for the love of god, let’s get rid of the idea that the continued mindless violence doesn’t benefit Hamas (because it does; unsurprisingly, sympathy for their cause has soared in Gaza) as much as it does Israel, or that Hamas is some kind of benevolent peacemaker that is being thwarted by the cruel imperialist US/West.
This post, also from January 2024, explains why the kind of stunt-trick "pro Palestinian" activism that just relies on publicly hassling Jews is a) antisemitic and b) actively harming the people of Gaza, while once again pointing out whose fault this whole mess actually is:
If these people actually wanted to advocate constructively for Palestine in a good-faith way and not just punish random Jews or people who might have once met a Jew (which they don’t), they would take a look at that, go “hmm, this isn’t really getting the right result” and listen to the people who are telling them that by generating this bad publicity, they are doing far more harm to the cause than good. They are going to make the cause look foolish, they will drive away anyone who isn’t already radicalized, they will shut down any possibility of discussion and dialogue, and their efforts will be picked up in the Israeli nationalist right-wing media/Netanyahu and his war criminal advisors to insist to left-wing or anti-zionist Jews that (one of the, you know, big fucking reasons Israel was founded in the first place) they aren’t safe in any other country in the world, and they need to support the Israeli government’s actions, no matter how heinous.
A follow-up from January 31, 2024, discussing (again) the problems with insisting that Biden personally/the American power apparatus is just giving Israel a blank check and therefore Biden Iz Bad And This is All His Fault:
Once again: I strongly disagree with the idea of just giving Israel/Netanyahu a blank check to keep committing atrocities, but I also need to repeatedly point out that Biden isn’t doing that. His initial unconditional support of Israel after October 7 (which at the time was the correct response) has shifted to a much more measured and conditional approach where he has muted the overtly pro-Israel statements and started talking about a two-state solution and the need to protect the lives of civilians and trying to keep a lid on what could become a REALLY bad situation with all kinds of war-hungry powers eager to jump into the Middle East and blow it completely to hell.
I am a historian. This does not mean that I always know The Greatest Things Ever, but it does mean that I default toward long, cautious, and qualified responses where I try to consider multiple perspectives and nuances, rather than just posting pithy soundbites or black-and-white statements. (Yes, I know; I am doomed on social media.) Thus when I do discuss the situation, I tend toward trying to put it in broader context, to push back sharply against the idea that being "pro Palestine" is just being wildly antisemitic on social media and nothing else, and to call out those bad actors who are using this situation to continue to imperil American democracy and deliberately try to get Trump (who openly hankers to be a genocidal fascist dictator for everyone, not just Israel/Palestine) back into office.
I know that this is a situation which provokes (to say the least) strong emotions from everyone. I know that it's infuriating to feel totally helpless and just to have to watch it from afar. I know that we all wish we could stop it and that leads us to create meaning or assign importance to our own actions where there actually is none. But that does not mean that people have total liberty to spread antisemitic conspiracy theories, wild political misinformation, narratives designed whether unwittingly or deliberately to help Trump and other far-right fascists, and otherwise anonymously dogpile on people who haven't Posted The Correct Opinion on Tumblr (once again, Tumblr, where we get our news via Destiel meme). So I hope this has helped you, if this is what you wanted to get out of contacting me today, and hope also that you'll continue to think about what to do and how to act. It's hard, I know, and you have my sympathy. But so it is for us all.

Keep Unnecessary Meetings to a Minimum
“Don’t attend unnecessary meetings,” advises Jersey, an Autistic activist in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Jersey has been on the front lines of numerous pro-Palestinian actions in the past several months, serving as a medic during the #BlocktheBoat action to delay the shipment of munitions to Israel, shutting down the Oakland Federal Building, and blocking the Bay Bridge, an action for which he was arrested and charged with false imprisonment (among other laughable charges) by the San Franciso District Attorney. Since the siege on Gaza began in October of last year, Jersey has been living and breathing for the Palestinian cause. Yet even he has limits.
“Tell [fellow organizers] that your capacity for meeting, especially in real life, is low,” he says. Instead of having to speak at length with organizers about your interest in getting involved, see if you can articulate your own role within the movement. That way, you won’t have to be “managed” as much.
“For example, if you’re a photographer, tell people that and then demonstrate that you can show up relatively independently, take great photos, and then show them with the group,” he says. Once you have proven yourself to be reliable and competent, you can skip meetings without facing as much criticism.
Many organizing spaces are oriented around neuro-conformist standards of what socializing and planning for an event must look like. Non-Autistic people generally process new information socially as part of an ongoing dialogue, whereas many Autistics prefer receiving all the relevant facts in a single, linear document they can read and process on their own. Many activists also enter a movement with intense emotional needs, and wish for others to bear witness to their suffering and share how they are feeling too. This means that those of us who find socializing and emotional processing to be draining will have to advocate for ourselves.
“We can remind organizations to be intentional about what does and does not have to be a meeting,” says Aeryn, another organizer. “Sometimes all you really need is an online survey, a memo, or a thread where people can ask questions online.”
If you can, tell meeting organizers that you are unavailable to meet often, but that you will listen to meeting recordings or read the agenda on your own time, and then communicate through email or private message to indicate that you have. Depending on how much you trust an organization and its leadership, you can either explain directly that you cannot process information in real-time easily because of your disability, or you can simply say you’re busy with school, work, or family obligations.
Operating independently may require being strategic in the roles you take on within an organization. Jersey says: “If you’ve never done security but want to do security, you will have to do a lot of training and meeting with people. But if you’re already a trained medic and have some type of credential… you can probably just tap into a medic chat and sign up for events as they arise.” This, in fact, is what he’s done.
Of course, it will be sometimes be necessary to get to know other members of your organization of choice, express your own perspectives to the group, and receive updates through some form of meeting. However, there are still many accommodations you can request to make those meetings more accessible:
Push for Accessible Meetings
When an activist movement is new or its resources are limited, its meetings may tend to be urgent, somewhat disorganized affairs, rife with lots of thinking out loud and amorphous brainstorming and possessing little in the way of an agenda.
Autistic people typically find it very hard to contribute to such meetings, because the flow of conversation is unpredictable and confusing, and most of us struggle with knowing when it’s appropriate to jump in and offer a comment. The constant flux in conversation topics is exhausting for us to keep up with, as are all the social and emotional undercurrents bubbling beneath what’s actually being said.
After the meeting is over, we may have almost no recollection of what was shared, because we were putting so much energy into masking and wearing our “listening faces.” Critiques and questions may occur to us hours after the discussion has ended, after we’ve had some time alone to digest and reflect. Even if we are physically present within a space, we are pervasively excluded when meetings are conducted in such an unstructured, overwhelming way.
Thankfully, all of this can be avoided. Here are some of the accommodations that organizing meetings should provide in order to maximize their accessibility — not just for the sake of Autistics, but for anyone who struggles to process verbal information quickly and form their own immediate verbal responses to it on the fly:

hi! i loved your future au comic and the way you've caracterized maurice talking about how nice/weird it is being a teacher of knd operatives. do you have any headcanons about how maurice or other members of the sector v think themselves as adult and their relationship to adulthood and childhood? how to contribute to kids liberation as adults
Hello!! I think about this a lot, and yet also not enough.
The comic you're referring to brought up another example. Rachel becomes a defense lawyer who specializes in taking KND related cases, basically acting as the legal protector of KND operatives. Fanny meanwhile is a prosecutor who targets evil adults. Because we love defense lawyer/prosecutor relationships.
In general, I think it's common for adult operatives to align their careers with kid liberation. Like, it's not required and it's not the only way adult operatives can aid with kid liberation but it happens a lot.
Abby is another example of this. She's a social worker who advocates for kids in difficult situations.
Even Wally has a kid-aligned career as a pediatrician. He can use his platform to advocate for kids as well, in various ways. One of those ways is just using his leverage as a doctor against the parents of his patients. He's not allowed to have the final say in what the parents decide, but he does what he can. A real life problem with children's healthcare is that parents consent stands in for the child's consent. So the kid doesn't get a say in their own healthcare, only their parents do.
Kuki can also do kid liberation work as the Rainbow Monkey CEO. Sometimes careers that don't obviously overlap with kid liberation absolutely do.
Having people who are willing to fight for youth autonomy in any industry is a huge deal. Education, healthcare and law are probably the big ones that come to mind, but there are very few jobs that can't involve it.
What adult operatives do for the cause is really just the exact same stuff that we can all do in real life. Speak up when you see injustice and try to fight for something better.
But like I said, it's not all tied into careers. For example, Nigel never has a job. He's pretty much unemployable due to his inability to separate his politics from his professionalism, and also because of his debilitating paranoia and OCD. But even if those weren't factors, he was in prison for a huge chunk of his young adult life, and if you have a criminal record it's near impossible to get work (a very real and very evil problem). Hes released from prison as a disabled 30-something year old former convict with no professional experience at all. He's pretty much inevitably going to become a stay at home Dad.
But he can still do a A LOT advocating in his local community and for the children in his life. not only is a menace in PTA meetings, but he's got a lot of free time on his hands to get out and make a fuss. Also, and this is very specific to Nigel, his family still lives in the same house, which is conveniently attached to the treehouse. So he DIRECTLY works with the active KND operatives who use that treehouse. He can help them in varying ways, from making them cookies to keep their energy up, to feigning ignorance when evil adults show up at his front door and shooing them away.
I haven't mentioned Hoagie yet, and that's because she's the most likely to get absorbed into the things that immediately interest her and not think about much outside of that. It's the autism. Their career is like this. Hoagie works a LOT, just because she loves what she does. But she still advocates for kids when the opportunity presents itself, particularly her own kids.
In the comic I drew, Angeline mentions that the KND doesn't need adult programmers, because there are already plenty of very talented KND operatives that are programmers. However, people like Angeline can work to make space for those KND programmers and watch their backs. Hoagie can do this too in the world of academia and hard research. While there arent any kids in university, they can still help KND nerds get access to resources and stuff like that. Lots of scientific papers are behind paywalls. Hoagie can help kids get around those paywalls.
I remember talking to Mottle about Hoagie running workshops for kids, and Abby shifting to a more chill career that's somewhat similar. Just teaching kids cool stuff.
I sort of breezed past Kukis involvement so I'm gonna go back to that- As the Rainbow Monkeys CEO, she pushes for inclusivity in product design. The RM corporation now has better sizing for their children's clothing line, they have pride merch, gender affirming products, and children's books with positive messages. Evil adults complain about the company being "woke" now. She also makes huge donations to children's charities and fundraises even more money through her products.
I have a specific headcanon about Kuki and Wally doing a collaboration where the Rainbow Monkey corp has a partnership with local children's hospitals. There's a line of RM scrubs and stuff too. But that probably already existed.
And to elaborate on Abby's role, while I think it's mostly obvious, I did want to restate my headcanon that she takes over the DCFDTL 's case. I headcanon that those kids can't age, so when Abby is an adult, they're still 10, and they're stuck in the foster care system with a very high-profile, legally complicated case.
I think...that's plenty of info for now. Thanks for the question!

@imjustabeanie : [ match report ready ]
Tumblr media
your match is…
✦ Jade Leech
Tumblr media
-> Jade is absolutely not daunted by your brutal honesty, often finding it amusing instead. He is much more about subtlety himself - not the type to lie, per se, but he does leave things rather vague, simply letting people make their own assumptions (whether good or bad). He doesn’t see anything wrong with someone naturally being more straightforward, though. Many people are afraid to truly speak their minds in social situations, preferring general politeness and not wanting to hurt feelings, so he finds types like you to be so refreshing and funny. Initially, when the two of you don’t know each other very well, he really likes seeing how you react to him. A lot of students are wary of him, if not flat out terrified, so a lot of them stutter and stammer through excuses or beating around the bush. Jade doesn’t get too fussed about it, but when you come around and say what’s really on your mind towards him, he can’t help but laugh. On the plus side, he does make an effort to be more upfront with you in return, out of appreciation.
-> He is not someone who you’d really be able to rile up. Ever calm with an easy smile, Jade simply doesn’t crack in the face of pressure, mocking, or insults. He doesn’t even seem bothered by them. And depending on the type of person, his cool-headedness and pleasant smile will just rile up the one trying to goad him. Jade doesn’t exactly come across as the competitive type to most, but he actually finds competition and challenges quite enjoyable and interesting. He’s perceptive enough to pick up on the fact that you’re the competitive type, even though you try to hide it. He’ll casually challenge you to something, making it seem like a low-stakes fun pastime, only to not go easy on you whatsoever. He always acts like he has the upper hand and just grins at whatever taunting or teasing you throw his way - and he loves taunting you back, his words intentionally timed for the maximum irritation. It’s like a form of flirting, for him.
-> Jade loves your curiosity and the fact that you indulge in it freely and often. He is of the mindset that knowledge is a very powerful, useful tool, which seems to be in line with the way you view knowledge and learning. (He just has more nefarious uses for his knowledge, especially when it comes to other people that either he or the Mostro Lounge could make use of…) All that aside, your preferred area of interest leans a bit more towards space, but if you ever want to dig deeper into the sea, he’s happy to share some of his own insights with you considering the fact that he literally grew up in the Coral Sea. Any questions you might have, especially ones concerning the logistics of being an ocean dweller, he’ll answer to the best of his ability - and his answers tend to be quite thorough, wanting to sate your ever-present curiosity.
-> On a similar note, he’s a great conversation partner when it comes to debates or philosophical topics. Jade is never one to shame you for morbid curiosity or dubious ideas, and he’s happy to explore those topics with you. There’s a lot going on inside that head of his, hidden behind that smiling poker face. He’s smart and skilled, and won’t shy away from talking about difficult topics. These are really good opportunities for you to learn a bit more about him! You’re able to figure out what his stances are on certain topics (he’s pretty morally gray and self-interested… but also doesn’t mock ideas that keep the greater good in mind, either), as well as how he thinks and processes information. He’s good at playing devil’s advocate, so you’re able to really pick apart different ideas and concepts, trying to see things from as many different perspectives as possible.
-> Jade finds a kindred spirit in you, in the way that you encourage “bad ideas” and chaos. He hates “organized harmony” - finding such peace dull and boring. A core part of him wants life to be as entertaining and fun as possible, though his definition of entertaining is a bit loose and self-centered. He really likes planting poor choices in people’s heads and waiting for the inevitable chaos and fallout. He won’t participate in any reckless ideas himself (he’s just a touch too pragmatic for that), but he can usually convince someone else to do it. And knowing that you’re also the type to hype up your friends when it comes to their stupid, dangerous ideas? Well, that’s even better! He now has a partner in crime, the two of you watching from the sidelines as some poor fool you’ve encouraged goes and risks their pride and/or safety. You two are a pair of menaces in your friends’ eyes.
-> Moody? No problem! Jade is used to Floyd, so he doesn’t take it personally. If there’s something going on that’s troubling you specifically, he’s happy to suggest or even enact solutions on your behalf - just let him know if that’s something you’re interested in, because he won’t step in without you saying so. Otherwise, he’ll leave you be, figuring that you know how to manage your own emotions. That being said, he does like to leave a little gift for you on days that you’re really struggling. It’s often just one of your favorite snacks, but there are a few times he’ll leave you a nice bracelet or set of earrings. Nothing too crazy expensive or lavish! It tends to be either sea or spaced themed (a nod to your interests, but the sea themed jewelry he gets you are often from the Coral Sea. He hopes you consider them thoughtful, comforting gifts, and he really likes when he sees you wearing them!).
-> Baking becomes a hobby that the both of you indulge in. Besides the fact that Jade is overly competent in practically everything, he has a special fondness for cooking and baking. Even when he’s stuck working in the Mostro Lounge kitchen on a daily basis, he likes the freedom of cooking something that suits his own tastes… or experimenting with weird recipes. He likes going all-out on baking dates with you, and you each take turns picking the recipe. When you two first start baking together, he picks recipes that are more on the tame side, but then they progressively get more eccentric and unique. Other times he might just half-follow a recipe and then just start experimenting with the last half of it. At least you seem to be the type that’s willing to mess around and see if it’s something tasty or edible! All in all, he ends up truly enjoying the domesticity of spending this time with you, even though he’s not typically the type to fall too deeply into comforting, relaxed routines.
-> You two make a rather enigmatic couple. Both to outsiders, and to each other. It takes you a long time to open up, and you refuse to share your trauma or troubles even to those close to you. Jade likes to keep his cards close to his chest, never fully letting his guard down and being vulnerable. It may feel like a weird dynamic sometimes due to this perceived distance, but at the same time it can be rather comfortable. You both understand each other’s reluctance to bare your inner world and emotions, so there isn’t a strong pressure from either of you to do so. You can each take things at your own pace without feeling guilty. Sometimes the relationship may feel a bit stagnant because of this, since there’s this hesitance with emotional intimacy… but that makes those moments where one of you decides to take a step forward all the sweeter.

As an older Gen Z past my teenage years I’ve noticed that younger people in my generation are…. Weirdly conservative?? And puritanical?? And love to police what grown adults are into sexually even when there’s zero things wrong with it (which is ironic, because there was this whole ordeal about teens on TikTok getting into “hardcore” kinks too early and bragging about being into choking or biting).
I guess it’s just the generational need teens have to feel superior and better than adults. It’s really annoying tbh.
You know, I've been reading a book called "A Renegade History of the United States" and one of the book's themes is that respectability politics aren't what got shit done and aren't what made the US such a free place. It was the whores, the bootleggers, the punks, the unashamed lispy flaming gays and stone butch lesbians, the "bad" people proving stereotypes "right", and the degenerates who made shit happen.
(Me making a rambling Pepe Silvia-esque corkboard about internet bullshit below)
What was considered degenerate and banned by respectable people (ie. Rock and roll music in the 1950s, American music and film in Soviet countries) was what pushed members of society to fight back against those respectable people: essentially, "fuck you, we're gonna listen to Elvis because this music is fun and so is dancing at clubs, drinking, and dressing like a thot."
Anyway, I bring this up because there's always a faction of people that desperately want to stamp out anything not respectable, anything ~problematic~ If I were to draw a parallel to fandom bullshit, I'd bring up the puritanical sides of fandoms on places like Tiktok that you've described and how they try to stop anyone from creating and enjoying weird degenerate shit. If you want to go really reach for straws, you could say this may stem from a very American mindset of puritanical values. The founding fathers hated how much people in their day spent time drinking and fucking prostitutes and gambling; ethnic groups like the Irish and Italian rose to "white" status by major influential leaders pushing for a sober and very religiously conservative lifestyle; the original groups behind the gay rights movement in the US insisting that no drag queens, no overtly feminine "swishy" gay men, and no butch lesbians could be in their movement for PR purposes; Martin Luther King Jr., Malcom X, and their political descendants like Jesse Jackson staunchly advocating against idleness and sexuality in order to be seen as respectable American citizens.
You can argue this emphasis on being seen as nonproblematic as possible, and enjoying nonproblematic things in as nonproblematic a way as possible, is a 21st century online extension of this long-lasting American mindset when it comes to morality and immorality.
Personally, I don't think minors should be consuming sexual content and ESPECIALLY not porn. It's just something not made for them; they're so mentally and emotionally underdeveloped that they can't understand that sex isn't at all what porn's idealized and hyperfantasized portrayal of it is. It's why they commonly develop body image issues (when they already struggle with that thanks to social media anyway, thus adding fuel to the fire), why they feel pressured to talk about sex as often because they think everyone expects them to be sexualized, and why some feel pressured to be okay with kinks and sexual acts with a partner even if they don't want to. And, regarding your ask, some push back against that oversexualization by shunning and rejecting anything they consider too sexual or sexually 'problematic', 'toxic', or impure (aka: sinful)
But that doesn't mean these teens who are having to deal with these issues have the right to barge into a space explicitly meant to exclude them. If you're living in this century, you NEED to learn how to create your own experience online without flinging shit at others who have their own curated experience. Staying in your lane is something you teach teens in driver's ed, but it applies to a lot of other aspects of life too 🤷‍♀️

gender identity theory maintains a class of biological women we can oppress and exploit while allowing a special select few (primarily white upper-middle-class westerners) to "opt out" via self-id, surgery, and sterilization.
it redirects the energy of activists away from liberating women and overthrowing the patriarchy to supporting the new Progressive Approach of letting people choose their place within the patriarchy. it says this choice is what we should fight for instead, not our collective liberation.
we should allow gnc women to become people as men, grant men who fetishize women the right to insert themselves into the female class and directly among women, and let the Not Like Other Heteros heteros claim an oppressed "queer" identity. you can shrug off your 'white guilt', your 'straight privilege' and you can shed the markers of your male power—or for women, their female powerlessness.
the oppression of women as a gendered sex class, which most people never properly understood in the first place thanks to mainstream liberal feminism, is invisibilized and obscured. women cannot organize against this oppression or advocate for our economic, social, and political interests without including males whose interests directly clash with our own.
what few legal safeguards and protections women have to protect themselves & children from men are eroded. there are no barriers to erect between women and men who attempt to "pass" as female in women's spaces, sports, schools, and general public life. feminism, yet again, becomes a movement "for the rights of all genders" and males, yet again, become the face of it.
even lesbian women cannot refuse men since men are now also women, and heterosexual relationships are gay and "queer" so long as the people in them claim a "queer" or "trans" identity. patriarchy's original objective, to place women with men so women reproduce more people for the capitalist class to exploit (or to produce male heirs if upper class), can be fulfilled even within "same-sex" relationships.
unsurprisingly, this is what's come of the 2010s period of rainbow capitalism and 'girlboss' choice feminism. patriarchy is morphing into its new era: "trans rights are human rights" and "transmisogyny" and "transwomen are women" and it is doing so masterfully, insidiously.

The previous Anon who sent you a message got me thinking, I think one reason why some feminists (particularly cishet white women) are open to right-wing/conservative ideology is because of the "benevolent" aspect of misogyny. One of the tenets of patriarchy is "controlling (cishet white) women in order to *protect* them", and I figure cishet white feminists are attempting to appeal to conservative sympathies in a sort of attempt to gain some sort of proximity or access to the power which cishet white men have (presumably subconsciously), via the socialization that men will protect you/side with you as long as you're on their side to begin with to some extent. Stepping too far out of line requires actual courage and critical thinking skills, it's a lot safer to continue appealing to the illusion of "protection" from society as long as you don't stray too far from the status quo, whilst acting in your own best interests (see: terfs). It's maybe kind of like a grown-up "I'm not like other girls" syndrome as well. Idk I'm just a dumbass with an internet connection but I'd be interested to hear your take lol
I think that is certainly true for some women! I’m hesitant to call them dupes or believe they’re acting subconsciously though, because like, women can have fully authentic and well formed beliefs about gender that would materially harm them - women who adopt the tradwife label, for example. Women who are white supremacists, or just right wing in general. There are women who have completely internalised the idea that they are lesser than men, and systematising that inequality in politics is a real goal for them. Like, I would hesitate to call them “tricked” into these beliefs - they’re adults who can evaluate information just the same as anyone else, and if they want to hold beliefs that would make their lives actively more miserable, then like, sure go for it. People hold beliefs like that all the time. These women are not intellectual victims of patriarchy, they are actively complicit in and collaborators of it.
But, yes, in general I think what you and others have said in the replies of the previous posts are correct in their assessment - that these women are close to power in many ways but are denied full access because of their gender, and so instead of advocating for the abolition of the current power structures, they simply want to carve out a space for themselves and leave the rest unchanged. Which is a stupid and impossible goal (women will never be free from patriarchy by embracing it), but it’s a goal that they sincerely and authentically want to achieve nonetheless

…African politics in the post-colonial era has operated mainly on negativity—we reject neocolonialism, neoliberalism, and the national bourgeoisie. But what kind of society do we want?
Of course, the Chilean case demonstrates that advocating for what we want is not so straightforward. It is not just the beauty of our aspirations that wins people over. The draft text included advanced provisions on socioeconomic rights, indigenous rights and representation, and gender equality. Perry Anderson’s observation about Lula’s first presidential run in Brazil (where he lost to the right-wing Fernando Collor), is worth mulling over:
“The political scientist André Singer, press secretary to Lula in his first mandate, but an independent and original mind, has pivoted a striking analysis of Lulismo on the psychology of the Brazilian poor. This, he argues, is a sub-proletariat, comprising nearly half—48 per cent—of the population, that is moved by two principal emotions: hope that the state might moderate inequality, and fear that social movements might create disorder. On Singer’s reading, instability is a spectre for the poor, whatever form it takes—armed struggle, price inflation or industrial action. So long as the left failed to understand this, the right captured their votes for conservatism.”
There are two ways to read this. The first is to scoff at the suggestion that the marginalized are afraid of change (supposedly, they are on standby and ever ready for spontaneous resistance given the right prompt). This sentiment takes us back to our false start, which is to assume that simply by the novelty and ambition of our proposals that people will take heed (the “worker’s party” hoarding political space in South Africa—the Socialist and Revolutionary Workers Party—went this route in the last general election and failed to get a single seat in parliament). The other is to endeavor to explain what is going on here. Vivek Chibber takes up this task in his most recent book, The Class Matrix (we interviewed him about it). There, Chibber argues that political resignation stems not from “false consciousness,” from the masses being duped—but because workers rationally choose compliance and individual resistance given the risks and demands of political organizing.
Associate editor at Jacobin, Meagan Day, once tweeted: “The left needs to raise people’s expectations for society. To do that we need to put forward demands that are two steps ahead of popular consciousness, not twenty. Utopian “demands” actually depress expectations by making change appear unachievable, contributing to demoralization.” This caused some stir, inviting charges of reformism, capitulation, etc. I have no wish to enter a reform versus revolution debate here. The thing to remember, as Leo Panitch and Sam Gindin put it, is that today “Political hopes are inseparable from notions of what is possible.” No one will join your movement unless it has prospects of achieving what it sets out to, and it’s the small victories—easy, though they may not be—that creates the momentum for larger ones.
emphasis mine.

quote tweet of thread on the alt-right pipeline: “making out like isolated teenagers who go through an edgy phase are somehow the worst people in society is dumb. It’s kinda obvious that a generation which has been raised on social media will also have a sizeable portion [of people who run in provocative circles for 5 years]”
I find a lot of things especially interesting about this framing that’s been repeated lately. 1) That wanting the gender marginalized to become sexual servants to cis men, advocating for genocide, etc. is seen as simply “edgy” to these people.
2) That when we talk about radicalization these folks always want to recenter the problem as being about “teenagers.” Either we can’t condemn them bc they’re teenagers now or we can’t condemn them bc they are adults who were radicalized as teenagers.
Which of course obfuscates the reality that MANY reactionaries today radicalized as adults. And MANY people who grew up isolated and coming into contact with/being surrounded by paths into reactionary politics (like me!) still manage to reject them.
We are also supposed to be more concerned for reactionary youth than we are for their marginalized peers who are victimized by them. Those youth are apparently just collateral damage who have no right to hold the peers who harm them accountable for their actions.
3) Going along with the above: these beliefs (regardless of the age of those who hold them) are framed as existing outside of social space, with no effect on other people that should matter, which, again, plays very much into my point in the original thread.
Because these so-called “edgy” beliefs, let’s remember, are advocation for rape and genocide. And y’all want to frame the people who hold them as the “real” victims of those values rather than the marginalized people they enact them on in their lives.
The harm that they inflict during these so-called “edgy” periods—sexual assault, rape, queer/trans bashing, bullying, organizing to strengthen reactionary movements—are framed as unreal, inconsequential in the face of “saving” supposedly innocent reactionaries.
The marginalized are not your learning tool, and the harm you inflict is real, lasting, and damages our ability to feel safe in the world. If you can’t reckon with that reality, hold responsibility for it, then it probably wasn’t really a “phase” after all.

EGM January 2023
Here’s the current 2022/23 constitution for more information on all the positions!
Here’s the google form to submit your manifesto ahead of the EGM on Wednesday 15/01/2023 at 6pm.
Document last updated: 25/01/23 - 12:30pm
This document is not representative of all candidates that may run for election as individuals can choose to do so on the night.
Vice President Treasurer  b) One candidate (Name and manifesto will be shared on the night)
2. Disability Officer
a) Jamie Martin (They/he)
Hi! I’m Jamie (they/he), and I’m in my second year of Politics and Social and Public Policy here! This society has honestly saved me in multiple ways and is very close to my heart, and I’d love to be in this role so that I can create an inclusive and truly supportive space for anyone and everyone. I would be suited for this role as I have been in various advocacy and committee roles (see below), and am super passionate about making this society as safe and accessible as possible.
Previous experience:
- I worked within the British Youth Council to devise policy ideas on things like mental health and accessibility to propose to UK Government, and gained an ASDAN Youth Voice Award for my work
- I was a committee member of my hometown’s youth council (Impact), where I created and distributed a lot of information on safeguarding, mental health, and lockdown content, and helped to move operations online when the Covid-19 pandemic hit
- In college, I spent 2 years on my college council, arranging events like the leaver’s ball
- I’ve spent just under a year as News and Politics editor over at QMU’s student magazine (Qmunicate), writing about accessibility and queerness
In this role, I would focus on the usage of online means like the GULGBTQ+ Discord to ensure continued accessibility for the disabled community- as a society, strides were made in accessibility here during the Covid pandemic, and this could be really useful to keep going. I would do mini-meetups online in the disabled channel and advocate for more online stuff on the other channels, as well as keeping the in-person coffees, so those physically/ mentally unable to attend irl can still participate in society events. I would also work with the welfare officer to increase general inclusion and awareness- for example, using message reacts as a way to signal that somebody would like to be DM’ed by a committee member about a certain event due to something like a mental health issue, and something could be arranged them showing up early and hanging out with an identity officer beforehand. I would also like to do more events around disability- for example, an awareness panel similar to the ace one that was done, collaborating with other uni groups (the neurodiversity society, the SRC and student unions’ mental health campaigns, etc). I am also very cool and swaggy /j

Canada, U.S. & Western Society: Own up to your "dark side"
Trump's mugshot reminded me of a few things about America. I think it's safer to place my bets with the public that declare "I don't take you as a moron or idiot". Why does it seem like the only choice the U.S. has is between "I don't admit it" and "I admit it". I think this is part of a significant lesson plan for Western society. It's very difficult to deny that governments in general can't be corrupt or at least have bias interests/lie to the public or voters/engage in criminal activity. This is a rhetorical question impossible to escape in time and space for society and civilization. What's the solutions to the problems of corruption or irresponsibility in Government or leaders of society? Why is it that it seems the left smiles in your face while lying behind your back and the right openly offends in your face?
Bush starts wars, Trump is American Gangster; meanwhile the left often demands an unrealistic conformity most are uncomfortable with. You might be for race rights, but if you arn't additionally for something like communism or LGBTQ+ then you're often implicitly for the right. What If I want to be a black or Indigenous monarchist (that is, I want to start my own independent sovereign Ojibwe Crown). Case in point is I get no support or less support if I don't choose to support further liberal policy as an ethnic/racial minority.
Does it make you a stronger or weaker person going in either direction; thinkers may ponder the utility of this thought. Part of what compels me to write this is advocating or promoting official political solutions outside the mainstream left and right. What is and the one issue that affects, affected society - the economy and financial crisis since 2008. The ramping up of political activism ever since then; an oscillation between the left and right ever since - does society or the public (perhaps in extension recent generations) look foolish if people continue to support typical mainstream politics after all this? Will people continue to support mainstream political solutions on the left and right? What kind of alternative solutions do people typically seek, and what should it really be like? To answer the former - we may often say communism, socialism, right-wing extremism, criminal-corrupt behaviour in government; this is most likely. What should it really be?
I say America and Canada should own up to its "dark side", that is - it's unethical and criminal behaviour. This is what the foundation of Canada and America is built upon; exploitation of opportunity on the fringes of territory, morality, and law. Canada and America is a pirate but instead of hiding this attribute it should be proud of it. Instead of publicly and overtly claiming to be for human rights, freedoms, and liberty, we should just have "pirate pride"
Tumblr media
There's nothing wrong with "ripping off the Native Americans", giving foreign nations or people an unfair deal (if I can get away with it) - why am I upset if I benefit? Why should we even be critical? If the immoral are "winners" then what's wrong with having criminals for government? Instead of pouting and shouting "crook!" at political opponents, we should make it a badge -
Criminals have nothing to hide from you. Immorality is transparency to negative behaviour of the individual; Morality is a veil pretending human nature harbours no evil. If you know a criminal you probably know their most "negative" behaviour. Criminals often tend more towards images of rebellion and non-conformity. The same cannot be said for standard citizens or non-criminals who tend towards images of conformity and good behaviour. What is the most "negative" behaviour of those without a criminal record; this is more coverted or hidden. This is why those without a criminal record are less trust worthy, and those with a criminal record are more trust worthy. Is "your evil" known, or unknown? To choose immorality is to acknowledge range in good and evil of human nature; to choose morality is to pretend the illusion of altruism is standard. What's the correct choice to make, and when? Why not take the pirate pill, Canada and America? This is what I ask you.
Tumblr media
And so while it may appear like it, I'm not here for Trump but the whole event conjures alternative thought about colonial society. The most significant concepts to reflect upon is "do we trust Donald Trump less" (or something like this) or "do we trust him more because we know about his wrong-doing" in opposition to "do we trust those who tend to cover-up any wrong-doing" - Tomorrows politicians should openly be criminals. This is to be inclusive; this is to overcome the worst of racial oppression. This way the true grassroots voice of the people will reach democracy. This is to choose truth and reject the illusion of politics. If you want to protect society from monsters and wolves, then hire monsters and wolves for you, not against you.
In many ways this is what we already have. I think I get upset society doesn't double down on this. Instead politics tends to put on a faux exterior of altruism, goodwill and morality in behaviour because we have a difficult time explaining how and why we retain western privilege. Instead we should formulate "neocolonialism/imperialism pride" thought - Uncle Sam having his way with you is good for the world; supremacy of the largest bank account, money, materialism, and the almighty dollar is the true American race. If we prize this, we genuinely double down on "the dark side" -
This is all a controversial thing in the political correctness of modern day global society. In many ways it would seem that the U.S. and the World became more like Canada in altruistic appearances and standards of social norms. Obama and Trudeau will forever be a marker of trend in the establishment of leftist values domestically and globally. If Uncle Sam has his way with you, Canada is a country that spits at you behind your back while smiling at your face. Canadians are often directly polite or kind, while harmful/negative (or even naturally competitive) thought/behaviour festers towards others (in all rationality of human nature). Don't get mad at me; I'm just saying what we're all thinking as Canadians. Is this inherent nature of "good-will" healthy in society, or does it do more to act as a front, or even a dangerous psychological state of mind for politics?
Tumblr media
Personally I tend to advocate the same position Canada should double down or own up to foundational values of its popular image - altruism, human rights, being sensitive to others, being polite, nice, or kind to others. What should the future be? This is up to whatever people choose for themselves and others. One of the most accurate predictions is people unite under simple or easy values everyone agrees with. I'm unsure how any human being can be against the pure values of CUTE! LOVE! and being NICE! for example. This is to not just be Canadian; this is to be "Super Canadian". What are you?
And so it would seem the United States became more like Canada over time. Universal healthcare, shifting towards a supportive role in conflict, the mandatory politics of liberal-progressive values - all is an indicator of the U.S. replicating its northern neighbour. Not only that, but these values have become a basis of Western Order - thus it's difficult to deny we live in a Canadian World Order.
Tumblr media
This all may be reserved for academic and institutional thought but to serve democracy best it should be brought political and social discourse in the public realm. Canada represents the idealism of western political values and the U.S. represents it's economic hegemony. The values underlying these components have already merged in Canada and the U.S. I argue, despite the political masks we put on. I just think not enough people have realized it yet. I tend to view this C.W.O. as an opposite to "Good/Bad Devil America World"(a "theoretical approved"/opposed forms of neoimperialism). To fully be for the Canadian World Order is to critique neoimperialism or neocolonialism. Can people overcome the antithetical values of western neocolonialism and progressive human rights in global society? Or should we just take one side or the other in values?
One of the last points I considered was the C.W.O. is something I would describe as the "Pink World Order". It's meant to protect whites (racially/culturally), women, and the sensitive. The world population is being purposely deceived when the left pretends to be for racial minorities.
Tumblr media
We not only want to be Madoka; the system protects Madoka. It spits at you behind your back. Only listen to the most honest leftist critics who tell you the left is white supremacy. Human Rights are a privilege of society missing or monopolized in developing countries. Whites, women, and the sensitive benefit from human rights; it's the alarum of "developed society". What are non-whites, those from developing countries most familiar with - society without western concepts of human rights, behaviour of human nature without it. What can we do without imposing Pink World Order when problems or issues arise in the world?
I suppose this is when the bad or good wolf comes in for all neoimperialist/neocolonial efforts. I guess my concern is the shrinking role of the U.S. military in global conflict that favours softer approaches. I don't need to point a gun at you because all I need to do is tell the global village you're a bad person; this is the essence of the Canadian (Pink) World Order. This doesn't work for all nations because many refuse values from the human rights regime of western society. What new questions can we begin to ask? I ask for example: Do good or bad wolves train an enemy to fight you? Do forms of neoimperialism and neocolonialism exist that are even approved of by opponents? Is it better to train Ukrainian soldiers to fight Russia, over the presence of U.S. soldiers in another foreign conflict? I'm not sure these are exactly the answers to "approved forms of neocolonialism/neoimperialism". What are the answers outside of Pink World Order? What I enjoy is offering the beginning to new thought outside of answers already given. What does it mean for America to be a "good wolf?" Should we and can we own up to "the dark side" of Canada and America?
This is all a politically loaded discourse, and food for thought requiring innovative thought. Now is time to seize in creation of new political ideas on the scale of Marx or Adam Smith. This is an optimal frame of mind I think is required for developing the future of society and humanity.

#JamesDonaldson On #MentalHealth – Reducing #MentalHealth #Stigma In #BlackCommunities Can Prevent #Suicide
Tumblr media
By County News Center, County of San Diego Communications Office Photo by Nicholas Githiri on Pexels.com The death of #Stephen“tWitch”Boss’ by #suicide last week was a shock and heartbreaking to millions. It also serves as a sad and poignant reminder many people struggle with #mentalhealthchallenges, but often suffer in silence. The acclaimed dancer, choreographer, actor, and producer is well-known for his time on the popular television series So You Think You Can Dance and The #EllenDeGeneresShow, as well as for his roles in high-profile films and shows, including Step Up All In, Magic Mike XXL, Disney’s Fairy Tale Weddings, and Modern Family. Boss, 40, is survived by his wife Allison Holker Boss and his three #children Zaia, Maddox and Weslie. “The tragedy of Boss’ death brings visibility and attention to #mentalhealth and #suicide, which are subjects that can be difficult to talk about, especially within #communitiesofcolor, and particularly amongst #BlackAmericans,” said Andrew Strong, director of the County of San Diego Office of Equity and #Racial Justice. “Although members of the #Blackcommunity are at an increased risk of developing #mentalhealthissues due to numerous historical, economic, social, and political factors , many do not get connected to the #mentalhealthservices they need,” Strong added. #James Donaldson notes:Welcome to the “next chapter” of my life… being a voice and an advocate for #mentalhealthawarenessandsuicideprevention, especially pertaining to our younger generation of students and student-athletes.Getting men to speak up and reach out for help and assistance is one of my passions. Us men need to not suffer in silence or drown our sorrows in alcohol, hang out at bars and strip joints, or get involved with drug use.Having gone through a recent bout of #depression and #suicidalthoughts myself, I realize now, that I can make a huge difference in the lives of so many by sharing my story, and by sharing various resources I come across as I work in this space.  #http://bit.ly/JamesMentalHealthArticleOrder your copy of James Donaldson's latest book,#CelebratingYourGiftofLife:From The Verge of Suicide to a Life of Purpose and Joy www.celebratingyourgiftoflife.com The statistics are startling. “Research indicates #Black #men who experience feelings of #anxiety or #depression are about half as likely to seek counseling as their non-#Black peers,” said Dr. Luke Bergmann, director of #BehavioralHealthServices at the County Health and Human Services Agency. In 2019, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services found #suicide was the leading cause of death for #AfricanAmericans between the ages of 15 and 24 and the death rate was four times greater for #Black #men than #Black #women.  They are also more likely to experience symptoms: - #AfricanAmericans are 20% more likely to experience serious psychological distress, such as major depressive disorder, than other #racial groups, according to the National Institute on Minority Health and Disparities. - #Black #adults are more likely than #white #adults to experience persistent symptoms of emotional distress, such as sadness, #hopelessness and feeling that they must dedicate extra effort to everything they do, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Minority Health. - Between 2015 and 2018, rates of major depressive disorder in young #Black #adults—ages 18 to 25—increased by more than 3%, yet #Black #Americans of all age groups were less likely to seek treatment than #white #Americans, according to the #SubstanceAbuse and #MentalHealthServices Administration. #Psychologists and other #behavioral #healthprofessionals are making great strides towards developing more tailored programming to support the #mentalhealth of #Black #men specifically, but there is still much work to be done. Dr. Howard Stevenson, Director of the Racial Empowerment Collaborative at the University of Pennsylvania and a national expert on #racial #stress and #racial #trauma, perhaps discussed this best. “We should place less emphasis on whether #Black #men are resistant to therapy and more on understanding the contexts in which they already feel comfortable talking about their feelings and #traumas. If a #Black #man is able to find a treatment that is culturally responsive, that he understands, and that embraces the uniqueness of his difference, he is more likely to use that service,” Stevenson shared. #MentalHealthTreatment is Available “#Mentalhealthconditions are deeply stigmatized, and sometimes seen as personal weakness or even moral failing,” said Bergmann. “And the persistent #stigma that surrounds #behavioral and #mentalhealthissues can make it challenging for people to seek out and get help. But culturally responsive treatment and supports are available and can be life-saving.”  It’s important to recognize everyone responds differently to #suicide and that there is not a one-size-fits-all approach to coping in the wake of a tragedy. It is also vital to remember that #suicide is preventable, and there are steps you can take to help reduce the risk of #suicide. These steps may include: - Increasing access to #mentalhealthresources - Promoting a culture of openness and acceptance around #mentalhealth - Knowing the signs of #suicide and how to get help If you or someone you know is struggling, dial #988 or 888-724-7240 to speak with an experienced #counselor who can help. They are available seven days per week, 24 hours per day.
