I am once again thinking about the reluctant ruler whose arc justly and correctly includes assuming the throne and taking responsibility for the people set before them
#it's about simba coming back to pride rock it's about aragorn using andúril to fight for middle earth and assuming the throne it's about#hiccup marrying astrid and assuming his role as chief and moses returning to egypt#and it's about irina loving her people so fully that when she claims all of her subjects as hers that chernobog must release them to her!!!#and it's about miryem choosing to stay with the staryk and repair the damage and assume responsibility for the land and people!!!!!#and! it's! about! gen!!!!#it's ALWAYS about gen!!!!#gen who didn't want to be king. who hated being king and only wanted to marry a queen but who obeyed his gods and became a king over kings#who lost his home and half his family and his HAND but who ushered in a new golden age.#and it's about sophos who ran away but who shot the ambassador and took back his kingdom#it's about duty and it's about sacrifice and it's always ALWAYS about doing the right thing even at great personal cost because it's about#submitting to a power higher than your own. of recognizing that the calling on life is one for serving others and having so much more to#answer for than just yourself. it's knowing duty is love is duty#i cant stand stories where the answer is 'give up the throne and reject your duty' because no!!! you dont get it!!!#thats how you get the monsters!!! thats how you get the prince turned into a beast and thats how you get every terrible weak king that#aragorn feared becoming#to accept your throne is to die to self!!! you are no longer you but 'king' or 'queen'#it's like queen mary says to qeii in the crown 'elizabeth mountbatten must die#elizabeth regina must take her place.'#that's terrifying! but it's also everything!!!!#die! to! self! die! to! self!!!!!!#lilac rambles#lilac goes to the movies#lion king#prince of egypt#lotr#spinning silver#the crown#tqt#the queen's thief#httyd

Hello. This might seem like a silly question but it's on my mind. What's the deal with the whole "we're talking on a mobile but let's show the characters in the same room" thing. The first time I saw I think it was Gen Y with Mark and Kit even before the whole separation thing. Then it appeared in MSP. And now in A Boss and a babe. And I'm sure I've seen it somewhere else but I can't recall now. To be honest I don't know if I like it or I hate it but for some reason it's nagging at me that it seemed like it came out if nowhere. Again sorry if it's a silly thing .
Also, love your blog, love the color commentary and I too think it's all on purpose and meaningful.
Hiya, Anon! Thanks for the appreciation! Also, I've written this before, but let me repeat it here - There are no silly questions on Tumblr! People created an entire fake movie, and somehow the BL folks convinced others that KinnPorsche was the Thai remake of it.
Now to your not-a-silly question! First, let me list the shows from the past few years that I can remember doing what you are writing about:
I don't file this in my mind's storage room, so if I miss any, someone shout it out.
See You After Quarantine? - Sato x Bo Chun
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hello, Stranger - Mico x Xavier
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gen Y - Mark x Kit
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fish Upon the Sky - Mork x Pi
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
GAP - Sam x Mon
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
HIStory 5: Love in the Future - Hai Yi x Johnny
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
My School President - Tinn x Gun
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
A Boss & A Babe - Gun x Cher
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bed Friend - King x Uea
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm going to make an educated guess.
Looking at the timeline, this didn't come out of nowhere, but came out of necessity - a pandemic!
Gameboys - Gav x Cairo
Tumblr media
There was a two-year+ period where many of the globe couldn't touch their loved one. The only way to "see" some family was through calls, so I think directors are making a conscious choice to show people in the same space after many years of that not being a realistic possibility.
I'm sure this technique has been used before 2019, but I think it's more of a sentimental choice to reinforce the narrative - people want to be around their loved ones. Technology is great, but it doesn't replace the feel of people sharing the same space and after having to deal with that for the past few years, we want to see people sharing the same space even if they aren't.
I, personally, like it. In HIStory 5: Love in the Future, Hai Yi was in mandatory quarantine when he spoke to Johnny on the phone, and they had several scenes on the phone where they would appear in the same room, yet when Johnny finally saw Hai Yi in person, he was left in awe.
Tumblr media
Both were instantly attracted to each other, and it was believable because even though they were just talking on the phone, we saw them interacting.
Another educated guess is these shows are telling us that meeting and talking through the use of technology doesn't dilute the connection between the two people, but makes it stronger. The physical aspect is pushed aside and the emotional connection is front-and-center. King in Bed Friend is showing Uea that he doesn't just want his body, but he wants his presence. Mork in Fish Upon the Sky wanted Pi to know that he had always valued him as a person regardless of how Pi felt about himself. In Hello Stranger, Xavier and Mico would have NEVER gotten to know each other the way they did without the help of technology. Who knows how @dribs-and-drabbles and I would interact in real life, but in these tags, I'm trying my damndest to get in an ethical non-monogamous situationship, and know that my mama didn't raise no quitter.
TLDR: Technology brings people together, and putting them in the same room reinforces that.

♡ mananan would've made a better match for ayra i think (sorry andrei) but he didn't arrange a marriage at all so let's just roll with it
Tumblr media
from here! holy shit who is this guy changing the hair color changed everything
(the twins are here too! yeah, they get three children bc i do not like to shadow realm one of a pair of twins. they look the same as they do in canon bless u ayra and ur black hair)
but oh god ok in this au, ring reacted faster than all the conspirators and actually advised kurth to bring an entourage to meet mananan at the edge of the ribaut clan before reptor could assassinate the isacchian king. they get their peace treaty and the war ends! in exchange, mananan agrees (is forced to agree) to send ayra to grannvale to marry. because... something something od holy blood. maybe they take shannan too. anyway they are basically political prisoners grannvale is just too polite to say so.
and so she is wed to andrei, as the son of duke ring. at this point in my hc he has been officially declared heir i think. andrei makes no attempt to treat ayra as anything but a political prisoner, knowing that the chances of him having a major blooded child with a minor blood from a whole 'nother crusader are slim to none. at the same time, with ring right there and no conspiracy on the horizon (yet), it's not like andrei will do anything too crazy of his own accord (i've said this before, but while his relationship with ring wasn't good, it also wasn't bad enough that he would've at all wanted to kill his father without an outside reason). so they have a child.
meet black haired 'scipio'
the kid is born with only minor od blood. this is not great for andrei's mental health, and andrei makes his disappointment known to the kid from the moment he is consciously aware of his surroundings. at the same time, political prisoner ayra wasn't exactly encouraged to form a bond with her child so he also doesn't have a mother's support throughout all this
he ends up inheriting his father's self-worth issues wholesale, but worse bc at least father had minor ullr blood??? he has Nothing except the Political Prisoner's Bad Blood. hates himself deeply but tries to keep up a haughty appearance to cover that up. inferiority-superiority complex to the extreme
he will become a master knight in this iteration. gotta prove himself and his nonexistent self-worth u know
a few years later, the twins are also born! they have minor ullr blood and andrei ends up deciding that's worse, the idea that ullr's legacy is being mixed with another crusader's blood. when i say he doesn't have a healthy attitude re: ullr this is what i mean. he ends up liking the twins even less than 'scipio', and edain is aware of this.
ANYWAY back to the lore. a large part of the tellius gen i asks is just figuring out how we even get here ahaha. eventually, the conspirators find a chance during a big event that andrei is expected to bring ayra, and assassinate kurth during that time, blaming the whole thing on ayra but also insinuating that chalphy and yngvi were in on it. they publicly execute ayra and order that mananan and mariccle answer for their family member's crimes or they'll like. kill shannan too.
at this point byron and ring figure out what's going on, and they rescue shannan and get sigurd to smuggle him out of the country using the excuse of political visits to the surrounding nations. the yied desert is no longer a viable route at this point bc reptor and lombard would have troops there to intercept them, so sigurd plans to get to isaach via going through verdane and agustria then getting a ship north to silesse and then to isaach. he leaves with some of his friends, edain included, and edain brings her niece and nephew the twins, thinking that this might make their cover story of innocent visits more convincing if they brought children along (shannan is also along but he's the whole point of the excursion so he has to hide at all times). andrei then kills ring, takes the duchy and throws in his lot with the conspiracy 'for yngvi's sake'. byron also is killed.
everything that happens in canon with sigurd's party happens at this point, even though it's a little bit late. manfroy pulls strings behind the scenes to convince both verdane and agustria that sigurd is here to conquer them instead of basically just. smuggling a small child. and so they run into Problems along the way. he meets deirdre, they have seliph, manfroy comes in with a steel chair, etc etc. anyway the gang is in silesse when they receive news that mananan and mariccle are both dead, isaach has officially fallen, and grannvale knows what sigurd and co are up to and they'd best come back before they're all labeled as traitors. chapter 5 happens and the people/kids who do escape originally still escape.
ok the story took a huge extra few years to get back on track but ultimately everything stays the same, except scipio now has black hair, od blood and hates himself more. sorry.

i'm gonna say something i want to say on a post moving through the non-rp po.tc fandom space but i don't want the smoke. yes i'm a coward. yes it is also a thing i have said in different shapes before.
tl;dr the problem with dmtnt isn't what they say about elizabeth, it's what they don't say about elizabeth (i.e. literally anything.)
honestly the biggest flaw in the entire "should elizabeth have left piracy" conversation is that the movie never asserts that she did. she's just literally not part of the narrative of dmtnt at all.
(which makes sense, to a degree, as it's a next gen story; one of its bigger flaws (imo) is jack's (largely mischaracterized) over-presence. he's not necessary or even all that influential to the plot, he's genuinely just there. mostly to the effect of annoyance or occasional hinderance. henry and carina could go for the trident and have a perfectly reasonable adventure without him, and nothing necessitates salazar's motivations being about him at all. in fact i think it's coincidence, in the nathanson draft? captain brand, iirc, hates jack, but it's not actually what makes him a part of the story, he's actually a figure tied into the myth by hades. jack's only there because he's the franchise pull and the people who wrote the movie had nostalgia for him but i'm digressing--)
"elizabeth stopped sailing" is a version of the story that people don't like — but they invented it to begin with so the whole conversation around it -if it makes sense, if it changes or ruins her character, if someone can find reason in it for themself- is a big pointless circle! nothing canon says definitively comments on what happened to elizabeth except to say she raised her son in a lighthouse that might be near port royal. that depends on how completely the word-of-god you think a prop map shown on screen exactly once is. even then, there are a thousand reasons she could be living near port royal. 'she retired' is easily the most boring of those possible reasons, i agree, but it's still not what the movie says about her.
the ultimate fact is - the movie never says anything about her, because it doesn't think to say anything about her. sure that sucks for other reasons (pushing her out of what was, really, her story to begin with) but it doesn't actually unstitch her character it just leaves things frustratingly ambiguous. it's lazy and uninspired writing but not nearly as much of the big betrayal it's made out to be. no one broke elizabeth, they just weren't interested in writing more about her.
which, again, sucks! but for completely different reasons than the (for some reason) still ongoing conversation about 'she could have retired after her trauma gauntlet'.
she could have retired! she could have not! she could have built a pirate empire on untamed seas! she could have became a heartless evil pirate king who killed for sport! she could have gone mad! she could have found another husband or four! there are lots and lots of open ended possibilities with a character so complex. the movie doesn't actually infringe on any of these, because it just doesn't care about her at all. it doesn't even care enough to say for fact, she retired and lives a horribly wealthy lifestyle, or she didn't retire and turned port royal into a new pirate haven-- it doesn't care. it doesn't. the movie says nothing because, other than Henry's Mother, elizabeth is nothing to the version of dead men tell no tales that we got.
—which, further, if you sit with that for a couple of seconds, isn't that surprising or even different at all from the rest of the franchise. which does not care about elizabeth's mother, or will's mother, or jack's mother, or angelica's mother--- all of these characters are nameless. the one non-appearing mother (from the movie universe. yes i've read tpof, not i'm not acknowledging it here, it's a different beast) who has a name in this list of ignored women actually also comes from dmtnt. magaret smyth, however, has a name that has been established in the franchise as meaning no one. ("Welcome to Port Royal, Mr. Smith.") carina's mother is magaret no-one, the aptly named madame not-appearing-in-this-film. so, once more with feeling, elizabeth being pushed into the background as Henry's Mother And That's All fucking! sucks!! it's! lazy!!! and! boring!!! but what is isn't is some big surprising upheaval. they didn't give you a stranger, completely 180'd character with a familiar name, they gave you a big empty place in the narrative who doesn't speak a single word and only shows up to be kissed. those are different things! by all means complain about the big empty spaces in this story (i hate them!) but stop, please stop, repeating the same bullshit that isn't even what happened
"i hate how they treated elizabeth" me too! "they changed her" wrong! it's worse, they did nothing because they didn't even care enough about her to try! which is a big shame because what they got right about henry and will and gibbs is SO right. carina is SUCH an interesting heroine in her own right but also as a foil for henry - and the fantasy of the series in general. barbossa is THAT BITCH who gets a full run of character arcs for no other reason than he's fun to explore and keep widening, he has the range. a 'down on his luck, washed up' sparrow is an brilliant and unique concept! unfortunately, at almost every turn the writers missed the lynch pins and the places where gravity fit into this franchise. so it turned out a big crumbly, unfinished-feeling mess. and that really starts to make sense when you consider; they didn't think elizabeth was worth writing about.
the dmtnt team's* nostalgia for pirate adventure and grand chaos blinded them to how essential elizabeth, the heart of the trilogy, was. and they got very close! by scrapping the Yet More New Characters (a big complaint of on stranger tides) in order to tie them back to where we started. they just tripped a few feet in front of really, really getting it. but failing to get something is not the same as picking it up and ripping it in half. it's bitter tasting, and disappointing, and frustrating, but it's not an act of spite or malice or even misunderstanding. they just never picked it up. didn't even see it.
*the rossio version of the script is also sorely lacking in this regard. true enough philip and syrena reappear, but people didn't find them all that compelling to begin with, they go through more or less an identical, ambigious arc and end in the same place they began, and the script even directly notes they could easily be replaced with unrelated, new characters. his version is even less connected to the heart of what made the trilogy good, imo. i'm forced to assume ted e.lliot is elizabeth's champion, and that while rossio is very good at the grand concepts and mythical atmosphere, elliot must have brought the grounding elements tying character together and giving them real substance. without both, the rossio script is empty adventure, like on stranger tides, and the nathanson script follows down a similar road. joachim and espen as the directing team were fans enough to bring their nostalgia in and i think is what led to to looking back toward the trilogy more, which was great, they just -again- tripped and fell short of a full return to spirit.
ultimately, the whole problem with elizabeth isn't "she was ruined" it's that she was abandoned. forgotten, or ignored. they killed all her loved ones and left her on a beach and when someone thought to go back to that beach, to that moment, it was to wonder "what about the kid" and never even ask "but what did She do?". I'm fully convinced you could ask that team "what did elizabeth do in that time" and they'd all collectively shrug at you. it's fucked up. but it's not the same as being unwritten. whether elizabeth sat on a beach for 20 years or not is left up to you, the viewing audience. and while that is just so... annoying. they still didn't tie her to that beach themselves. fandom did that. they filled a space and then blamed the writers for the thing the audience filled it with, instead of for leaving a big gaping hole in the heart of their story. it's very vexing.
("then why is henry in the navy at the start?" why is the govenor's daughter a pirate? shit happens. he's 20, a lot could have put him there. if the first thing you think of is boring as hell, make something else up. the movie has fuck all to say about henry's background, too. this is the big gaping hole in the writing that i'm talking about — by overlooking elizabeth, henry's entire history is likewise a big non-statement. sure, you can choose to infer certain things, but you're still inferring. you're still inventing. the movie doesn't care. all we know is everyone on the monarch thinks he's a "landsman" - but if that's true, where has he learned so much about pirate flags and oceanic mythology? what was he doing, between age ten-or-twelve, when he sank himself, and when we see him again in the triangle to be so self-sure and impulsive? the movie doesn't care, it just wants you to see that he is. this is both a strength and weakness, because it invites you to play. unfortunately it invited a fandom who had long ago decided what the future of these characters must be, who then were angry and disappointed when what they got didn't match a mess of a thousand visions that couldn't possibly be matched. so the movie decided "we'll let them decide", removing all the hard and fast statements, and the fandom assumed the worst and decided that was what they were given, instead of empty spaces. and now everyone calls the movie something it isn't. and it's all because the writing forgot that the heart in the chest wasn't actually the heart they needed to be focused on.)
anyway. i think that's out of my system now i'll try to shut up about it going forward.

In my super sour skittles induced pain I am once again having small brain thoughts about unhinged men
MY NEW VICTIM IS ELIJAH. YOU ALL KNEW THIS WAS COMING BROS, I HAVE WAITED LONG ENOUGH TO BRING HAVOC INTO THE DBH FANDOM.
i was feeding my little silly obsession of the moment and I have notice something
I see so many writing Elijah as a creep or some sort of unhinged manipulator who gives zero fucks about anyone
I AM ONCE AGAIN GOING TO PROVE HOW YOU ALL ARE WRONG. I DID IT WITH BO SINCLAIR AND NOW IM GONNA DO IT WITH MY GEN Z KING
I hate the headcanon of him not caring about androids or being like some sort of perv towards anyone. While I do think he has a god complex I don't think he's that narcissistic and mean as everyone makes him out to be
I know, I just know he tries to overcompensate how insecure he is by putting on this more cold and calculate persona. I feel like he's the type of person who struggles to find a something to fit in, he fears people and is scared of the idea they might get of him so he just distance himself before anyone can get close enough.
Like I can totally see him doing the most to create a specific idea of himself to others so they don't have the chance to hate on his real self. He prefers to be criticise for what he has choose to be seen as rather for who he really is
I was ready a character study a couple of days ago about him being bullied a lot growing up and it totally makes sense with how he is. Like this man put himself into creating basically a replica of human life perfect and you mean to tell me that the only reason behind it it's because he wanted to be seen as some sort of god? NO, THIS MOTHERFUCKER WANTED A FRIEND AND HE ALWAYS FELT LIKE NO HUMAN PERSON WOULD EVER WANT HIM.
CHLOE WAS PERFECT TO HIM CAUSE SHE WOULD'VE NEVER LEARN TO BE AS CRUEL AS A HUMAN. CORRECT ME IF IM WRONG (DON'T DO IT BECAUSE IM NEVER WRONG) BUT I HAVE NEVER SEEN AN ANDROID BEING CRUEL, CHLOE WAS ALL HE NEEDED BECAUSE SHE WAS THE ONLY ONE WHO WOULD UNDERSTAND HIM AND GET TO KNOW HIM NO MATTER WHAT.
CAUSE HE ALWAYS FELT TO DIFFERENT AND OUT OF PLACE WITH OTHER PEOPLE SINCE EVERYONE THINKS OF HIM AS A EMOTIONLESS AND CREEPY BASTARD
HOW I KNOW? CAUSE I KNOW, I ALWAYS KNOW. HE JUST WANTED A FRIEND, AND I GENUINELY THINK HE WANTED TO CREATE MORE ANDROIDS SO EVERY PERSON WHO HAS EVER FELT LIKE HIM COULD FEEL LESS LONELY.
Like no FR imagine being 16 and being the weird super smart kid in a college full of older fuckers who are always treating you either as if you were just a stupid kid or as the bottom of the joke because of the things you like or BC of the way you are. IMAGINE HOW LONELY HE MUST HAVE FELT
listen, I used to be the type of kid who was considered super weird and I used to be like super affectionate with everyone which ended up in being brutally bullied I JUST KNOW THAT HE WAS THE TYPE OF KID WHO WAS ALWAYS TRYING TO BE FRIENDLY AND KIND BUT EVERYONE MADE HIM FEEL BAD ABOUT IT. LIKE YOU DON'T ISOLATE YOURSELF LIKE THAT OUT OF THE BLUE JUST BC YOU HATE INTERVIEWS AND STUFF, BRO IS QUITE LITERALLY THE DEFINITION OF IM NOT JUST A BITCH, IM A BITCH WITH A BACKSTORY.
Also, I don't know why people say he doesn't care about androids and it's just happy causing problems ecc. HE VERY MUCH DOES CARE THANK YOU, I DON'T IF ANYONE HAS NOTICED BUT WHEN YOU CHOOSE TO SHOT CHLOE DURING THE KAMSKI TEST AND HE'S ANSWERING QUESTIONS ECC THERE'S A MOMENT WHERE HE GOES NEAR HER BODY AND PATS HER HEAD. I KID YOU NOT, I SWEAR I CAN ALMOST SEE HIM HESITATING BEFORE TOUCHING HER
You can't fucking tell me that man didn't almost had s fucking heart attack as soon as Connor and Hank left
AND DON'T GET ME STARTED ON THAT SCRATCHED IDEA OF HIM HOLDING BACK THE OG CHLOE FROM GOING INSIDE THE POOL BC SHE'S NOT WATERPROOF
He's JUST A WEIRD KID AND HE'S GEN Z, HE'S NOT A CREEP AND HE'S NOT THAT MEAN. STOP THIS MADNESS OF MAKING HIM LOOK LIKE SUCH A PIECE OF SHIT. HE JUST DIDN'T PICKED A FUCKING STRUGGLE, LEAVE HIM ALONE

Sorry for sending so many negative asks and you don’t have to answer the last two, or if you want to you can answer what I said about Gen Z on here. I had a hard year last year and can honestly say watching the Elvis movie in theaters, Austin’s great performance, and getting into Elvis helped me get through it. It just sucks going online for the past year and reading nothing but hateful and negative comments about Elvis and Austin on the internet, especially from holier than thou Gen Zers who have no problem stanning people who are way worse :/
going to begin with this screenshot i saved the other day, that truly just encapsulates a lot to me:
Tumblr media
also this gif my friend chelsea shared with me of el banishing haters for us. 😊 begone!
Tumblr media
i have a lot to say to this and am unsure where to begin, so allow me to start here:
I had a hard year last year and can honestly say watching the Elvis movie in theaters, Austin’s great performance, and getting into Elvis helped me get through it. <- first and foremost, WITH ALL MY HEART, this is the point. this is what's important. that experience belongs to you, and it's BEAUTIFUL and meaningful, and there's nothing that can or should take that away from you. i am SO glad you had the film and austin's stunning performance, and then discovering more in e himself to help you. the value in that is unbelievably special, and it's unique in all of us who discover that solace in art and hold onto it in our own ways. the film has come to mean more to me than i can express in silly little posts here, and i haven't had that for a long time.
i'm so sorry you were having a hard time, i understand in my own way. i didn't expect to even make it through last year myself. there is a particular depth of connection and some measure of healing that came with this that i can't explain except to say it exists on some spiritual level. idk if you were here when i wrote a post on the night of the grammys, but there's a significant part of myself that i'd been without for a long time, and maybe didn't even fully know was missing, that e almost immediately set back. as if that broken piece of stained glass mosaic was there, but had been knocked out of place, and when it was restored, the picture was more whole again, and i could breathe a bit easier. like a bridge over troubled water. you don't know what's lost 'til you find it! i sincerely hope that you're doing better now <333
i have to cut this because it's long. 💗
i don't know where exactly you're reading negative comments, maybe i've just been very fortunate to avoid them since i've encountered them so rarely and block the few i've seen immediately (and anyone who has anything negative to say about aus is deranged on some level, when he's unequivocally humble and kind in every interaction he has. the only things i've seen about him are inane voice comments, and not only is that not funny, and was never funny, it's also clear anyone who thinks that has never listened to a clip of elvis speaking for two seconds in their life, as they sound nothing alike! i hate that something which should only have been joyful and made him feel proud has made him self-conscious because the media can't ignore trolls on the internet. austin is such a genuine soul). regarding elvis himself, he was certainly a complex human being, but he was unquestionably a GOOD one. it takes so little time to discover exactly who he was and all that he stood for, all he did.
it's like i read a story yesterday about how, when he performed at the houston astrodome, the owner told him he didn't want black people onstage and to leave the sweet inspirations behind, and elvis was like, absolutely not, they're included or i walk, period. and then he had had them driven in a car around the arena so that everyone could see them. it's such a typical story for him (standing up for people he loved and what he believed in with a delightful dose of king shit defiant behavior). it's why it's so easy to dispel ANY claim of racism because he was distinctly anything but, and there are countless stories recounting why.
you said: To add to my comment, I can’t stand reading most zoomers opinions of Elvis because the takes are almost always misinformed and hateful yet they worship artists like (he who shall not be named, I sent you a previous anon about him) 🤷‍♀️
speaking as your millennial elder sister here, i assume they either erroneously believe he somehow mistreated people of color (could not be less true), "stole" his music and/or misappropriated culture (absolutely not the case, and if anything, he succeeded in BREAKING a lot of barriers), or the situation with priscilla. i've addressed cilla before, but anyone making that into a more salacious situation than it was is not HEARING her specifically. they victimize her without listening to a word she says about the life that is HERS. about things that were in place before they got married, about the love they had for one another. they victimize her without her consent and i find that really upsetting. they're also not hearing any of the other women he was ever romantically involved with who have shared about him extensively, nor the women who were around him platonically who adored him. or they're listening to GROSS unfounded lies perpetuated by alanna nash, who i'm on record despising. did he have some ingrained patriarchal concepts? sure. he was a white man born in 1935, but none of those ideas were outrageous and it's not fair to even weigh that against our social mores in 2023, when we've been without him for 46 years. he had tremendous respect and love (not merely in the physical way) for women. he had tremendous respect and love for PEOPLE. i think of myrna saying elvis would've loved her just the same, no matter what color she was, because of who he was. it's infuriating for that to be taken away from him by people who don't even bother to do their research or try to spend a moment lending him compassion and understanding.
not to play the whatboutism game, but the person you mention has FAR worse and actually credible allegations, and yet that gets waved off all the time. i could name...a number of very famous men who have concrete abuse allegations or stories of very dark/disturbing things, and it simply gets ignored. i could mention someone who's oft-revered who was also a misogynist, racist, antisemitic homophobe and gets very little criticism. it's crazy to me that elvis gets any of those accusations when there's documented proof of his charitable work for black people (and literally growing up with and attending church with and learning alongside of and befriending and defending!), for jewish people (including being a shabbos goy as a child!), his generosity and care for others, and so on. someone sent me an anon the other day saying they feel like people online hold him to an unfair double standard (and they referenced a different famous musician who is far more problematic), which i responded to here. the fact of the matter is, a lot of it is rooted in caricature and parody and unfair jokes/stereotypes, some of which is incorrect judgment of elvis as a human being, some of which is this idea that anyone from the south must be stupid and racist, which is wildly unfair. remember: YOU KNOW MORE THAN THEM. i KNOW it hurts and is depressing and feels bad to not be able to fight back and defend him and prove his worth to everyone who discounts him, but that's on them and they don't get it, which is their loss. tbh anyone who doesn't get it can fuck right off. you know what he means to you.
the thing about elvis is, he had this...all-encompassing need for connection and understanding, and there was some part of him always seeking that. be that spiritually, and in his deep faith and interest in many avenues of philosophical study/thought, or in his approach to love of any kind. he didn't want to be just one thing to people, he wanted to, in some way, be everything. which maybe is too much for anyone to strive towards, but it was in his essence. chelsea also recently told me elvis was very interested in all the different definitions of love - the greek words, storge, philia, eros, agape, etc, and i personally feel a strong connection to that because that's always captivated me too, not merely the differences, but the way they inform each other. how we express love in this world.
el having a temper or making some mistakes in his life does not negate the artistry he possessed, nor, on a much more personal level, the amount of good he did and heart and soul he shared with people. loved ones, family, romances, fans, he had this boundless sense of love.
which brings me to us. i mean it when i say i believe it would mean everything to him if he knew how many new people, ESPECIALLY young people, are discovering him and embracing him and remembering him.
going to quote chelsea again: "it's like the people who find him are the good ones, you know? the thoughtful, loyal, interesting ones who see him as a full person. which is all he ever wanted."
i believe, without question, that he would love us so much. i believe he was meant for us to find him. i believe it would touch his soul to know he's had an impact on us, or helped us make it through, or healed something in us in any way. that would be worth everything to him. and he's so alive in our hearts, and i know he's going to stay there. that's what has the meaning, that's what remains.
to repeat this post from the other day:
Tumblr media
i was having a discussion with tam like five minutes before this tweet was posted, about the people who dismiss him or belittle him not understanding the truth of who he was, not loving him for the whole of him the way that we do, so when this was tweeted, it felt almost like a sign from the universe. no matter how loud the clamor of denial, WE know what that love truly is.
you decide where to put your love. you know what restores your spirit. that matters through everything. i believe he reached out to and moved austin for a reason, that that performance was meant to happen. and deep in my heart, i believe there's some light of his reaching back that sparks in ours.

KieueCaprie's Games Completed List of 2022 #43: Armored Core For Answer
Tumblr media
Started: (i don't remember) Finished: 28/12/22
I have mixed opinions about 4th gen Armored Core as a whole and I don't really know how to go about it without sounding like an overly negative mid 2010's youtuber. Maybe the best way to go about this is the classic sandwich.
Experiencing Armored Core's 4th gen games after playing through 1st, 2nd, and 3rd's felt like I was being given Human+/OP-INTENSIFY from the get go and told to go buckwild. Movement is fluid and fast, you could actually keep the jets rolling while on the ground, and the overall gameplay is so much better. Hell, you could even shoot weapons with NEXTs that ordinarily ACs would have to stop to use (unless they're a tank-legs user).
AC4 felt a little too barebones but I liked it enough to want to play through 4A and, well, I liked early-game enough and the story is definitely more in-your-face compared to the previous gens. And some of the missions in 4A were a step-up from 4's, which is to be expected. And my favorite thing, the arena, came back so naturally, I had to play through it before I could even progress any further.
That was a mistake.
Y'see, in the Armored Core games, there's a shop where you could buy new equipment for your mechs, ACs/NEXTs, to use in combat and the arena tends to be an exercise in "How can I cheese these encounter?/How should I build my AC/NEXT to take on this dude who uses six guns at once?" but... you don't get much to play around with without playing the story first. The shop was empty when I first started 4A until I actually started doing missions.
Speaking of missions, I liked some of the early missions/NEXT battles, they were pretty fun to zip around in! But... well, I started to loathe the late-game missions due to the sheer difficulty spikes. One mission would be absolutely easy while the one afterwards would be a complete nightmare to play, even with the "optimal" build.
Even late-game missions where you had to fight enemy NEXTs became an exercise in frustration! Even with the best stuff I could find (I didn't even find out about the busted Kojima (yeah, i know) missiles until I was at the very end!), it was very much a fight against an AI who had infinite energy, infinite ammo, and seemingly infinite Primal Armor, it felt like it was less about skill and more about luck at that point.
And there were times I missed the optional parts when I kept getting stunlocked by rockets and missiles to the point where I absolutely started hating the game. At least the Souls games, where stunlocks on players is king, gave you a quick out! In Armored Core, you'd still be left hanging on slivers of HP that, for some reason, the missiles can't quite breach thanks to your PA but you still get stunlocked anyway.
But when the game had its high points, it was a brief glimpse at how perfect it could've been, barely getting by on whatever was left of your armor but managing to complete the mission anyhow or zipping by lasers from an Arms Fort only to put it to a swift end with a strike from your MOONLIGHT laser blade.
But, in the end, I don't have a very high opinion of Armored Core 4. Had I played it first instead of Armored Core 1, I might've appreciated it much more but playing it after finishing up the first three numbered games just made me appreciate the slower combat so much more, although that one had issues as well.
That is not to say that Armored Core 4 and For Answer is bad. There's a lot of things I genuinely like about it. I just don't think or don't know if it's even a good fit for me. I like the high-speed gameplay but at the same time, dealing with enemies that are essentially hopping around like they're playing a match of Quake 3 Arena is exhausting. (which is ironic because that's most of the arena opponents in 2nd and 3rd gen arenas)

RNM 2X13 - Echo Download
I've been having a hard time trying to put my feelings about the Season 2 finale into words, so I've been sitting on it for a few days, reading everyone's metas, and trying to organize and separate my actual thinky thoughts from the angst and heartache. That… is not something I am particularly good at. But I'm trying.
I LOVE this show. The writing is a mess. There's plot holes all over the place. The pacing issues alone make me want to tear my hair out. And dear God do I want them to give these characters and relationships (including friendships) the time and space for the big moments to land properly. I don't know if we'll ever get any of that though. And in the meantime, I love these characters and the story, messes and all.
Everyone knows my biggest love is Echo, so I'm gonna start there.
"I don't know what you thought love was gonna be like when we were 17, but it's not all sunsets and horseback rides."
Back in the OG days, there was one consistent criticism I had with the way they wrote Max and Liz's story: the breakups always felt like bullshit. Max breaks up with Liz because she was afraid of some weird alien shit. Liz breaks up with Max because he's "supposed to be with Tess" and meanwhile he's like, "um… no?" We had "it's too dangerous" when it was dangerous regardless. "We're just different" but not in ways that actually mattered.
Echo's breakup mattered. There were issues and they were not dealing with them. Both of them were sneaking around behind the other's back. Neither was being fully honest with the other.
The unwavering honesty was something that stood out to me in S1. Yes, Max was hiding the truth about Rosa's death. But when it came to the present they were almost laughably open with each other. Liz didn't lie about it when Max asked if she told Kyle the truth. When Max asked what she was doing in the lab, she told him the truth. Once Liz knew the truth about Rosa, she knew everything. It seemed like with that truth out there was nothing left to hide. And once they got together they were a team. Immediately. There's a reason that we had a joking headcanon in the Echo world that they had their first kiss and then they were a married couple.
I really think Max's death not only put that to a screeching halt...it also put them on this path to the breakup. Liz has abandonment issues, and Max made a choice, without her, that resulted in him leaving her alone. It wasn't openly discussed in the depth that it should have been this season, but I really do think it was issue #1. Liz loves Max and she was very happy being with him...but after he came back from the dead she didn't trust him to not leave her again. It was an issue simmering under the surface from Episode 7 until the finale. Liz channeled it all into worrying about his heart, but the underlying theme was a resounding "I can't go through that again". Which is deeper than just the worry over a physical health problem. And it pushed Max away from her.
He grew irritable with her. He started hiding things from her and lying to her. The season just ended and I have no idea if he ever told her anything about his memory flashes! He was obsessively trying to learn about his past and never once discussed it with Liz!?? Because he didn't want her to stop him from using the serum? This is a HUGELY personal thing to Max and you can see how much it means to him. He had tears in his eyes while telling Isobel about it. I mean, that puppy dog excitement, and yet, he hides it all whenever Liz is around.
I think it was around episode 8 that we started talking about how badly they needed to have a big fight. Us -- the Echo shippers -- the ones who WANT them to be together -- were BEGGING them to fight. I hate conflict!! But the lack of honestly and the aversions were just building and building and I just wanted it all out on the table.
They finally STARTED having that fight in episode 11, but then Rosa and Isobel interrupted. In retrospect, sweet alien!Jesus, I wish they could have finished then. Maybe they would have gotten the air clear between them. Maybe it would have put them on a path to healing their relationship before the finale. But they didn't, so the breakup happened. And the thing is… that ending. It just kind of haunts me. Liz waiting and hoping for a grand gesture that never comes. I mean, did Max even know WHEN she was leaving!?! He sure didn't seem to have it on his mind when they flashed to him in that scene. And their fight...was all about what Liz was doing and Max not taking care of his heart. They never once touched on what he was trying to learn about his past. I'm pretty certain that Liz left without knowing any of that.
And the thing is… I'm sort of skirting around the meat of the issue here. Because the biggest problem of all of this was Liz violating Max by studying his biology without consent.
I really hate saying that in writing, because, to me, it's kind of the most horrible part of all of this.
Max Evans has been referred to in jest in this fandom as the King of Consent. He was so careful with Liz, tiptoeing around her looking for explicit consent in Season 1 until her desire for him was made abundantly clear. He only ignored the need for consent twice: both times in the S1 finale. Healing Michael's hand and healing Rosa. But those things both happened after he killed Noah. After he was high on his own power. They were very clearly set up as out of character for him.
Liz didn't give him the same respect. Consent does not just apply to sexual situations and healing. It applies to studying too. It applies to Liz USING Max's biology without his permission. It also applies to administering the cure to Steph without her consent. Liz was very, very wrong here.
And the thing is… it sure didn't seem like the writers saw it that way. It also didn't seem like JEANINE saw it that way. There's been a little bit more balanced quotes from them in interviews this week since the finale ended as far as saying that both Max and Liz were wrong, but they sure focused on Liz being incredible and strong before the finale aired.
The part that confuses me though...like, a LOT, is that the narrative was pretty clear that what Liz was doing was Bad and Wrong. She looked guilty. She was lying and hiding things from Max. And the MORAL COMPASS OF THE SHOW, Mr. Kyle Valenti, repeatedly told her she was wrong. Kyle called her out on her ethical violations even as he was thanking her for saving Steph.
Genoryx was set up as being bad. Liz herself refused to go work for them in the flashbacks because they were morally sketchy. Although, maybe that's the draw now that she is all full of ethical violations. Sigh.
I'm gonna leave this topic now, but I'll encourage you to go read @latessitrice's meta on the subject here:
Okay...so to sum this up? The breakup was coming. We knew it was coming. But it still hurt my heart so much. I haven't seen anyone gif Jeanine's performance of the "I am in love with you. And I hate that right now." But the delivery of that line broke me.
That being said...do I see it being over? Let's give that a resounding FUCK, NO. I mean, sure, they fought. And it hurt. And Liz ran away. Without saying goodbye. And all of that SHATTERED ME.
But...they still love each other even if they both have a lot to work on individually. That’s part of what MADE it so hard.
I am actually stoked for season 3. Two Maxes? All of the delicious angst once Liz gets home. Liz not knowing there's two Maxes and meeting Jones first and not knowing who he is and being vulnerable to his mindfuckery? Or just his fuckery in general. Whatever. I am here for it.
I am here for Liz discovering that something about Genoryx is Not Right. I'm here for her living a normal life and getting drawn back into the madness. I'm here for Max getting more powerful and more alieny under Jones's guidance. And I am here for what I am certain will be an epic reunion once they are back together again.
As a last more positive comment...I’m stoked that we get to have both Max and Liz alive and facing interesting potential storylines this hiatus. All I wanted from this finale, in truth, was to leave the characters in a place that inspired me to want to write for them for the next year plus or however long this COVID-extended hiatus ends up being. And I am so excited for that.
And I have talked enough now that I will go ahead and post this and leave this post as my Echo Takeaways from the finale. I'll be back again with some more gen/bigger picture thoughts later.

Answers:
How did you guys come up with the idea for the CGW Universe? AND How did you decide to do this?
It all sort of started with a bunch of asks Pam was doing for friends, pairing their real life personas with their love interests. She wrote Never Give Up for Alicia and since we were all friends, she added Gen and Rashad, Anitah and Liam and Drake and Pam in, just for fun. The four of us talked alot and happened to all have different LI’s, so it just worked. There was alot of positive feedback and we started joking around about how much trouble we could all get in if we went to Vegas together. We were laughing so hard all our sides hurt. Next thing we knew Anitah was writing One Night in Vegas. We can honestly say we started CGW for us. We didnt really think people would be that interested in reading it. But we had so much fun writing it, like side splitting, up until 2 am laughing so hard we were crying, fun. So we kept going….and here we are!
Did Drake have feelings for Anitah like in the books? I don’t recall ever seeing this talked about in CGW.
This Universe follows the books pretty closely (minus book 3), but that's one change we did make. Drake and Anitah were close like in the books, but more of a brother and sister bond, never any romantic feelings.
How close is Anitah to Canon?
Anitah is pretty close to canon. Books 1 & 2 are basically the same (minus any relationship or feelings for Drake). Book 3 is gone. There was no Anton in our happy CGW world, and there was no unity tour. However, that doesn’t mean something (angsty) won’t happen in the future.
Why hasn’t Brad quit? The money cannot be worth what he has to endure. AND How hasn’t Brad quit yet? No amount of money is worth that abuse.
Look, Brad knows it’s all in good fun, and he gets snippy and sassy all on his own with the Queen and other ladies. We love, love, love Brad and he knows it. He might be a tad scared of the King, but he knows Anitah would have his back when push came to shove.
What’s Anitah’s biggest fear?
On a not deep level, Clowns. She hates clowns, any and everything to do with clowns. Which is why Liam and the other guys challenged the ladies to watch the entire IT movie, because they’re mean and thought it would be an easy way to win a bet but they only ended up getting their asses kicked (literally). On a deeper level- losing anyone she loves, especially Liam. It was explained in the ‘I’ll Stand By You’ 2 parter about her parents and what happened, and why she feels the way she does. So she’s afraid of losing anyone else she cares about.
How did Maxwell end up being an honorary squad member?
When we first started writing the group fics, we all agreed that Maxwell would be more like us, to get into the antics and fuel our love for shenanigans and would want to partake in them with us. We love Maxwell and his quirks and how much fun he is, even though half the time he ends up (unknowingly) spilling our secrets by taking pictures or posting on social media so the other guys find us or find out what we did lol.
Why is your FC for Bastien not Fabricio Zunino? Is it too late to make Fabricio Zunino your FC for him...?
We didn't use Fabricio Zunino for a few reasons.
1) Fabricio’s FC is hot and should be used when he's a LI.
2) We wanted our Bastien to be more fatherly. So we chose an older FC that's still kinda sexy.
It is too late to make him Bastien’s fc because look...
Tumblr media
Are any of you guys into Open Heart? If you are into Open Heart, what are the chances of Dr. Ramsey making an appearance?
@leelee10898 is the only one of us that reads Open Heart. She's a Bryce stan. @speedyoperarascalparty and @ao719 can't bring themselves to cheat on Drake and Liam. @cocomaxley is a whore for Mr. Sinclaire.
Sorry, no. Chances are Dr. Ramsey won't make an appearance. We haven't entertained any crossovers because some of us (everyone stare at @ao719) doesn't play any of the other books.
Have you guys ever met in person? If you haven’t met in person, would you guys want to, and do you think your day could potentially be almost as eventful as your CGW versions of you?
We haven't met in person, but would love to! It likely won't be as eventful as CGW, but we can guarantee we would likely laugh so hard we'd pee our pants. We already make each other laugh until we're crying and can't breathe.
Are you guys all married with kids?
We all have babies and married big man babies.
I know Drammy is still trying, but will you guys do baby stories for the births and stuff? I’d love to see the guys reactions to becoming daddies AND Will there be a fic about the babies birth?
Yes!! The ladies who are pregnant are already hard at work planning fics about the babies births and after. In fact, we think Alicia and Leo are due soon! Drammy's story will continue with either getting pregnant or processing their feelings about not being able to.
What were Anitah and Alicia like when they were younger? Did they ever date brothers before? Since they are married to brothers now.
Alicia and Anitah were angels with horns. They got into tons of trouble and hijinks growing up. They dated brothers before. They were hot firemen, pretty to look at, but nobody was home upstairs. They called them the meat head bros.
Did Leo ever meet Alicia’s parents?
Leo has met her parents...you will see this at some point.
Do any of the squad have siblings?
Alicia is the only one with siblings. 1 sister (Alexis) and one brother (Andrew). They are twins and older then Alicia.
Tell us a secret about Pam.
This is a work in progress 😬
If you have any more questions, feel free to comment with them or send any of us asks! We had so much fun answering these!
As far as the requests that we received:
*Please do a one shot of Anitah giving Brad hell with her pregnancy cravings.
*Like more of a backstory on Anitah.
*Bastien prompt to get set up on a date with someone named Carla
*Prompt where Rashad gets jealous of brad since Gen actually slept with him.
*I am curious if you could ever see yourself writing a scenario where Liam overheard Anitah in a conversation saying how bored she is, and how nothing he does gives her that satisfaction anymore, and just rolls off ideas, like getting a costume or using more bigger toys, and Liam assumed that she is talking about their sex life when really she is talking about ways of playing with her dog. Without even talking with Anitah Liam tries to surprise her.
We’re all talking about them! If you’re looking for anything specific or have any suggestions (Anitah’s backstory??) feel free to comment!
Also we received this on the google docs:
Tumblr media
We just want to say thank you so, so much for your kind words! We’re glad so many people are enjoying this crazy ride along with us!
Thank you again for all the requests and questions! And, as always, for all your support with our crazy Squad! 💕
