Shamed for not "grieving correctly" due to atheism via /r/atheism
Shamed for not "grieving correctly" due to atheism
Anyone else deal with something similar?
I was unsure whether to post this on r/atheism or r/griefsupport, but I guess this sub has more discussion.
A loved one died a few years ago. I never "outwardly" grieved about it in an obvious way. Didn't cry about it, didn't change my behavior, didn't become depressed, etc. For a while my family thought it just hadn't hit me yet but I never did openly grief over it. That doesn't mean I wasn't effect though. I dealt with a lot of grief and still have trauma over it, but I grieve differently than them. It's all internal.
I've noticed some people around me subtly scold me for not doing the common Christian stuff people do, like think about them often or talk to them. I don't talk to their spirit because I don't believe there's anything to talk to. They're dead. They're gone. I don't believe in souls, reincarnation, or afterlives so they're just... Gone for good. I don't like that but disliking it doesn't make it any less real.
To religious relatives of mine, this sort of behavior comes off as cold. They just don't understand why I don't seem as sentimental as them.

Also shouldn’t Valor remember Loyal. She’s a year older than Fearless, she would’ve been alive when he was conceived and therefore when Loyal was banished. Like she would’ve been just under 7 months right. If Gallant and Swift lost a close friend when he left to live on his own, and if Swift hates him so much, how would Valor not remember him. I’m pretty sure that’s even older than Fearless was when he fled Gallantpride. How does she not know who Loyal is she’s absolutely seen him before there’s no way. I know she was a baby and could’ve forgotten but I feel like Fearless remembers stuff from when he was a cub doesnt he.

Thinking about how kind, selfless, and (yes) loyal that Loyal was. He felt so bad about what happened with Swift when they both thought Gallant was dead that he exiled himself. And she had the AUDACITY to tell Fearless that he couldn’t be trusted?? I’m pretty sure the last words Fearless ever said to Loyal were about how he was an oathbreaker who couldn’t be trusted. And still when Fearless wanted to fight him, Loyal wouldn’t hurt him. Instead, he still decided to fight with Fearless and his allies against Titan and sacrificed his own life to defeat Titan. I can’t believe Swift made him out to be some awful terrible lion who couldn’t be trusted as if she wasn’t part of the “oath breaking” that happened. Loyal deserved the world. He was too good for Gallantpride anyway ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

majordomo-zazu replied to your post “I grabbed the first book of the Bravelands series from the holiday...”
/Also, that's the new book from the authors of the Warriors series right? The first series is good but after that their writing kind of goes downhill especially in the spin-offs, is the actual writing/story good? I've been interested in it just bcoz of the African wildlife aspect
Right. The writing is decent but it’s a bit slow so far (I’m on page 80 or so and not much has happened aside from the lion cub being orphaned and running away).
Also, the names bug me. The naming conventions are similar to the Warriors series, but they vary depending on the character’s species:
Lion: Swift, Gallant, Fearless, Valor (the lions also have surnames that consist of their father/pride leader’s name + “pride,” i.e. “Fearless Gallantpride”) Baboon: Mud, Nut, Thorn, Grub Elephant: Sky, Star, Moon, Rain
I wish they’d just given them actual African names.

So, wait, creationists don't believe dogs evolved from wolves? via /r/atheism
Submitted January 10, 2020 at 10:40PM by Gallantpride (Via reddit https://ift.tt/2QHJTsw) So, wait, creationists don't believe dogs evolved from wolves?
Well, dogs are a sub-species of wolf, but you understand what I mean.
It recently occured to me that (some?) creationists don't believe in domestication if they don't believe in any sort of evolution. Dogs were created as dogs, cats aren't descended from African wildcats, etc.
How do they explain domestication that we've documented? For example, rats were domesticated in under a century and foxes are becoming domesticated very quickly.
