Updike Halloween headcanon

I personally feel like Updike couldn’t do haunted houses for 1 of 2 reasons:

1) He deals with things much scarier than any haunted houses could come up with, so he’s just not scared of them. He knows he’s going to get jumpscared at some point, and he knows that he isn’t going to get attacked, so he kinda just prepares himself for the eventual moment that he’s going to get jumpscared.

or 2) He keeps accidentally punching the actors that jumpscare him out of reflex. Like the second he’s jumpscared, he socks them in the face or stomach cause of his reflex.
