kinda want to ask about all of them but you have to explain what furnaces or the lack thereof is about! 👀

It's probably not a much huddling for warmth as you're hoping for lol, but it's there! Basically Jyn gets back to Echo Base debilitatingly sleep deprived and then proceeds to have an terrible horrible no good very bad night. Literally just 2k words of buildup to like 500 words of hurt/comfort lol.

It's late, he's probably asleep. She should be asleep. She wants to be asleep. Cassian will be there in the morning and she can wait until then to see him. She can wait until morning to hide her face in the hollow of his throat and bury herself in his arms, she can wait, can she wait? Her quarters aren't far. His are closer. He’s closer, he’s so close and she wants to see him. She can wait. He’s probably asleep, she should be asleep, she wants to be asleep.

Jyn squeezes her eyes closed and shakes her head, trying to wrench her thoughts out of the incoherent cycle they’re stuck in. 

Force. She needs to fucking sleep.

cute scenario for you because I've had this fic in my head for forever, hope you enjoy <33:

Cassian is an overworked firefighter who just had a bad day and everything he wants is to go home and pass out in bed but he also promised his friends he would show up for Chirrut’s birthday party so he sucks it up and drives to their home. There are a lot of people there, a lot of sugar-filled kids who want to play rough with him and he has a hard time saying no but his back is also killing him after the last intervention. He should’ve seen a doctor for it but Cassian is Cassian and he keeps putting it off hoping it will go away. But it starts to be hard to ignore it tonight and it hurts like a bitch.

That’s how he meets Jyn, because she’s asking him “on a scale of 1 to 10, how bad is it?”. He’s surprised at first, wondering how she can see it. “Your posture is fucked,” she says. He’s a bit distracted by her eyes, and the way she watches him like there is no one else around. With some reluctance, Cassian admits that he’d rather be laying in his bed. “That bad, uh?”

Then she asks Baze if she can borrow the bedroom for a while. Jyn is a physical therapist and while she insists he should see a chiropractor first thing in the morning, she drags him away from the party to “unfuck his back”. Cassian didn’t expect to get a massage from someone he met ten minutes ago but honestly? It feels so good that he can’t complain. Jyn obviously knows what she’s doing and the pressure of her hands really helps to take some of the edge off. So much so that Cassian falls asleep right here and there.

When he wakes up, he’s alone in his friends bedroom and he’s disappointed to see that most of the guests already went home. He gets bullied to pieces by Chirrut and Baze and they are delighted to inform him that Jyn left him a note. After some death threats, Cassian gets his hands on it.

“Next time you’re the one on top. Call me.”

The lane widened out into another square surrounded by mid-rise buildings and an open gallery crossing overhead at second-story height. Someone moved along it at a crouch, head barely visible above the stone barrier, and sunlight flashed off metal. 

Jyn dug her toes into the dusty pavement and threw herself at the agent, knocking him face first to the ground. She twisted, trying to avoid landing on him with her full weight, and punched him in the ribs with her elbow instead. He lurched underneath her, fighting to get up. “Cover!” she gasped and threw her arms over her head. 

Something cracked to their left, showering them in gravel that stung even through her jacket. Cassian lurched to his feet and yanked her upright by one arm. Ears ringing, Jyn stumbled after him behind the sparse cover of the closest market stall.

The emotion woven throughout cuts to the bone and as painful as it was, the premise of the story was very well executed. (And if you're looking for a lighter read--maybe a spicy one--Moria's one-shot SOLAR STORM has such an incredible setup. The sexual tension is so well done.)

I couldn't choose just one from this collection! Luce writes the softest, sweetest, fluffiest stories for RC that you will ever read. (Which makes perfect sense if you're lucky enough to get to know her because Luce is such a genuine, sweet soul.) These fics are like a warm-hug for the soul--just what you need after watching Rouge One.

Again: I am not usually one for Modern AUs but I think the RC fandom is changing me and the first I ever read was Eli's amazing fic. I am obsessed with how Eli writes Jyn's internal dialogue. It's so in character and sharp and will make you smile and shake your head and go "Oh, Jyn!" This collection of stories is idiots-in-love like nothing else and you will fall in love with the world Eli has so thoughtfully crafted for a modern-day RC.

I'm not usually one for modern AUs, but this fic is just so much fun. The banter between Cass and Jyn is so in character and so sharp and witty and the whole time I was reading I had a grin on my face. (These two idiots.) I love all the little details Sissi considers in this AU (Chewie being the dog for example), but that's no surprise! She is the queen of AUs!

Tethered (to the Story We Must Tell) by @dilf-din

I just absolutely loved the setup for this fic. Jess manages to fit these characters into a magical world so seamlessly by embedding the most incredible details from the Star Wars universe. (I was obsessed with the "stormtroopers".) Jess's writing is so smooth and rich and will immediately grab your attention.

Coping Mechanisms by @mosylufanfic

I think this was the first fic I ever read of mosylu's! I love the way she writes Jyn--always perfectly in character, strong and sassy. But in this fic in particular, I love the softness she brings to Jyn in how she cares for Cassian. I found it to be a very beautiful, healing read. (But if you're looking for something a bit longer or more upbeat! I mean, take your pick. Mosylu is another author who is amazing at AUs and her works are always such fun reads.)

It’s a story I enjoyed reading for a lot of reasons, but to focus on the cat facet: The tooka in this story is more conceptual/a child’s toy for most of the fic, but it’s a very cute element that brings Cassian and his daughter together.

Jyn spent years hiding her heart from others and keeping some of her feelings to herself. Her life hasn’t been gentle with her by any means it happened like a natural self-defense mechanism. The thing is she was older now and tired of denying how she felt about Cassian, from who she tried to keep some distance for too long. She didn’t know if he would ever understand her reasons to stay away or if he really felt the same about her at all but she decided he was worth a try: a chance to make peace with herself and to love him the way she always wished.

It has enemies to lovers, bodyguard romance, canon bisexual trans male character (who's the love interest and an important POV character), geology if you like that stuff (I didn't understand it but someone licked a rock and my understanding is that that's accurate?), zombie-like creatures, bedsharing, uhm.... what am I'm missing? oh, I know, sensual massages! plus a nerdy little dude who's very into his impressively badass and sexy bodyguard <3 (who may or may not actually want to kill him... at first)

Plus, the journey from careful infatuation, to denial, to anger, to finally slowly coming to terms with their feelings - it all makes the story pretty much impossible to put down. I've read the entire thing almost in one go. And I have a feeling you will, too.
