Character Information 

 Water was always changing. Always in motion. Except when it’s frozen.

 For a long time, Elsa had stood in place, frozen with fear. Fear of herself, of her magic. Of what she could do. What she had done. 

 Even as she’d run from Arendelle, her heart had been frozen in her chest, and she carried that ice with her everywhere. To the mountain, where she hid in seclusion for two years as winter raged around her. To Swynlake, where she kept to herself as much as possible, never daring to let anyone too close lest the cold bite at them. The heart is stubborn, and Elsa’s ached for the life she locked herself out of.

 A life with her mother and father both whole and well, a life where she got to watch her baby sister grow up close, instead of from a distance. A life full of magic, of elements that lived and breathed in the forests alongside the Northuldra. A life Elsa had torn to shreds when she’d accidentally struck her sister with her magic and cursed their mother when she took the magic into herself to save Anna’s life.

Elsa stood, frozen, surrounded by the memories of all she’d ruined. All she had destroyed.

And then, slowly, she had started to melt.

With Anna’s reappearance in her life, summer returned as well. As she melted, Elsa let herself hope that while she might never have her old life back, she could still have a good one. One where her relationship with her sister was stronger than ever and warm friends helped keep the ice at bay. As she melted, Elsa began to really live in Swynlake, and had come to love her life there. One she built for herself, where people knew what she was and the important ones didn’t care.

She became water. She began to move.

But water had ripples, and Elsa was still Ahtohallan’s daughter. She was still a force of nature, and her connection to Ahtohallan had only gotten stronger the more Elsa regained control of her magic. A frozen river could not flood, could not sweep anything away.

 But Elsa is not frozen. Not anymore. 

 And if she isn’t careful, she’ll disappear and drown in the current.

Anna Sommers was born in the middle of the night, with the sun straining its lonely little light against the deep blue Norwegian sky. That was just how June was in Arendelle, the little village that Anna’s father governed in a remote corner of the country. It was also how Anna felt sometimes. Shining bright for the rest of the family, demanding they revolve around her, keeping the sky blue and clear, and despite all that, terribly, terribly lonely.

It wasn’t supposed to be that way. Anna had parents who loved her and an older sister she practically worshipped, nine years her senior, which made her seem endlessly wise and grown-up to Anna. Anna’s earliest memories are of the elaborate games Elsa would construct for her, building her wonderlands of snow and ice using her elemental powers. These are the memories she likes of Elsa best, before everything changed.

One night, right before Anna was to start primary school, she woke Elsa up and demanded a snowy game. Elsa agreed, being on the brink of entering secondary school herself, but the game went wrong when Elsa lost control of her magic and struck Anna with a stream of ice. It was an ancient and powerful form of magic that Elsa didn’t fully understand yet. If not for the girls’ mother’s knowledge of elemental magic, Anna might have frozen to death that day.

She didn’t, but her mother’s magic came at a cost. She was nowhere near as powerful as the spell required, and the effort it took to counteract the ice made Iduna ill, and she never fully recovered.

From that point on, Anna and Elsa’s father turned on magic. He had never trusted it fully to begin with, and now that he saw the real danger it presented, he encouraged Elsa to hide her magic, electing to homeschool the both of them to prevent the secret from getting out. Anna, too young to understand what had really happened, only knew that her sister didn’t want to play with her anymore and that there would be no more indoor snowball fights. Elsa got older and more distant, and then one day, she disappeared.

Anna had gotten used to loneliness by that point. But she had one portal to the outside world: the Internet. Anna spent hours a day online, attempting Instagram fame with her perfect self-timer pictures in the vast Norwegian landscape or on occasional trips to the sparkling sea. She tweeted about her favorite books, which turned into a YouTube channel about her favorite books which turned into a blog and a Tumblr and another Instagram, and while Anna never achieved fame, she build a little online community to keep herself company in her lonely frozen world.

Anna wanted friends she could hang out with in real life, though, too. Any friends would do , but she especially wanted to find Elsa. And so, when it was finally time for her to go to uni, after years of waiting, she tracked Elsa down to Swynlake and applied to Pride U, refusing to apply to any other universities. She would finally have friends her age, real people she could meet in person. She would finally see the world. And, most importantly, she would get her sister back.

LOST BOY OF 1995 NOW LIVING IN SWYNLAKE Kristoff Bjorgman, the boy who famously went missing in Swynlake in 1995 and was found kidnapped by Stone Trolls, is now back in town

Many of the natives of Swynlake might remember the news story that broke almost 25 years ago. Kristoff Bjorgman, six years old at the time and a tourist on holiday from Norway, went missing during a day at the lake and despite efforts from the local emergency services, he was unable to found. Ole and Anna Bjorgman continued their search, but as time went on and funds dwindled, there seemed little hope of finding the boy.

However, in 2005, a new lead: investigation into the Forest of Enchantra by the Bjorgman family found that one area of the forest had been unexplored. Despite disapproval from town hall, the Bjorgman family and a volunteer crew ventured into Stone Troll Territory with hopes of finding their son, and find him they did. Kristoff, now 16 years old and cut off from the world from almost a decade, spoke almost none of his native tongue and failed to recognise his parents at first. He was brought to Swynlake General Hospital, where he was kept overnight for observation. Whilst physically healthy, Bjorgman was clearly suffering psychological issues, assumed to be from his lack of human contact. The Bjorgman family, now accompanied by two younger children, Freya Bjorgman, four, and Agneta Bjorgman, two, relocated to Swynlake, after doctors advised keeping young Kristoff in town. Bjorgman was enrolled in Swynlake Secondary School, but after just three months, he elected to leave his family and return to the forest; the reason for this is still unknown, as the family chose not to comment, leaving Swynlake to return to Norway in 2007.

Little was heard of Kristoff Bjorgman in the decade that has followed, though there have been reports of a man coming and going from the forest from time to time. In 2018, there were reports of Bjorgman moving into a flat in the Benbow Apartment Complex, but these could not be substantiated. Now, however, it seems Bjorgman is making a proper home for himself in Swynlake. We at the Squire hope the community welcomes this long lost resident with open arms.

Once upon a time, in a beautiful Winter Hollow, there lived two fairy women who were very, very much in love and very, very much wanted a little fairy child all their own, and they were going to have one no matter what it took. It took nine months, a little help from a sparrow man couple, faith, trust, and a little pixie dust… but at the end, they had a perfect sparrow boy with a sharp nose and bright eyes. The four parents named him Olaf, and they couldn’t wait to see what special things he would do for the Hollow. Olaf couldn’t wait either! Would he grow up to be an Ice-Talent like his bio-mum, Elsa? Or an animal-talent like Sven? Maybe he’d be a Sledding-Talent, and help haul food through the snowbanks, or an evergreen talent who would coax berries off the nettle! But when his Arrival Day came…his talent didn’t show up. At first, Olaf was crushed. How could he be a fairy with no talent?! But the queen reassured Olaf that there was still a place for Olaf in the Hollow. Over the next decade, Olaf picked up the proud mantel of the Helper-Talents. Each morning, he’d wake up and go wherever he was needed most. Some days, he picked out little bones out of fish with the Kitchen-Talents. Other days, he tested the surfaces of icy ponds and puddles to make sure they stayed frozen. It didn’t matter how small or big the task; Olaf showed up, a bright smile on his face, determined to help. Olaf probably would have continued to Help, professionally, for the rest of his life. But then his best friend told Olaf that he was leaving the Hollow because he was unhappy. His absence stirred something inside of Olaf…this empty feeling that Olaf had ignored ever since his Arrival Day. As his missing for his friends grew, so did his questions about Hollow Life and his Helper-talent, which never felt like it fit quite right. What if Talents were too limited? What if Olaf could do so much more, for himself and for others? And was he really as happy as he thought he was?

Olaf arrives in Swynlake in a cloud of these questions, on the heel of discovering he has a talent after all. If his best friend found a home here, and a place to belong, Swynlake must have a place for a hugging-talent like Olaf too!
