I just. Like the idea of Spenser being a cryptid. Some of the other frontier brains are staunch believers in 'there's always a logical explanation', yet make exceptions for Spenser because the man makes no sense.

(also i gave Spenser a wetsuit under his robes bc he's in the water a lot, and also his robes are kinda revealing when he's upside-down skskd. I'm not sure if Mr Cryptid would care about that, but Scott certainly does, so wetsuit it is.)

Welcome to the Official Blog of the Hoenn Battle Frontier

Located in sunny LaRousse City and owned by Scott Enishida (me), the Battle Frontier aims to provide brand new experiences for trainers who've long since surpassed the challenges the League provides. Our seven unique battle facilities run by seven unique Frontier Brains will put all your skills and abilities as a trainer to the test. What are these facilities? Well, I'm glad you asked.

The Battle Factory

Run by Factory Head Noland, the Battle Factory is dedicated to scientific research and study. Here, Trainers will battle using Rental Pokemon instead of their pre-existing teams. This will test your ability to change your strategy and work with Pokemon you are unfamiliar with.

The Battle Arena

Run by Arena Tycoon Greta, the Battle Arena will put all of your skills as a trainer to the test. You only use one Pokemon for this facility and your Pokemon will battle for three rounds. At the end of those rounds each Pokemon and Trainer will be judged based on their Mind, Skill, and Body and assigned a score. The Trainer and Pokemon with the highest score wins. A knockout leads to an automatic win.

The Battle Dome

Run by Dome Ace Tucker, the Battle Dome is all about double battles. 16 Trainers compete in a tournament with 4 Pokemon each. Only after winning five of these tournaments can trainers hope to face off against Tucker himself.

The Battle Pike

Run by Pike Queen Lucy, the Battle Pike challenges you to make it through seven rooms, but you can never quite be sure what will happen. One room may contain a single battle, another might contain a double, yet another might contain nothing at all. All these and more are things that can happen at the Battle Pike. Hope you've got good luck.

The Battle Palace

Run by Palace Maven Spenser, the Battle Palace is a place for Pokemon to shine. Trainers issue no commands during battles at the Battle Palace, instead leaving it up to the Pokemon themselves to decide what to do.

The Battle Pyramid

Run by Pyramid King Brandon, the Battle Pyramid will have you embark on a Battle Quest. You must navigate 7 dark floors which can only be lit by defeating all the trainers on each level. You may also encounter Pokemon wandering on their own. Though these may seem like Wild Pokemon, they are, in fact, trained and cannot be caught.

The Battle Tower

Run by Salon Maiden Anabel (who will also be running this blog, link to her intro), the Battle Tower was the first Battle Frontier facility to be completed. Here, trainers will face a gauntlet of 70 floors with Anabel herself waiting at the top. Trainers can participate in Single Battles with three Pokemon each or Double Battles with four Pokemon each.

By conquering these seven facilities, trainers can win seven symbols and enter into the Battle Frontier Hall of Fame. We hope to see you here soon, and good luck. You're gonna need it.

They are adding them very slowly it looks like. I’m sure there will be an event sooner or later. I only played Pokémon ORAS, so I never got to meet the hoenn frontier Brains. I thibk they just finished adding all the ones from Sinnoh, so we are getting somewhere.

The Brandon and Silver Timeline:

-Silver is born in Cherrygrove City in Johto.

-5 years later, Brandon is born.

-When he turns 10, Silver gets Chikorita from the current Johto Pokémon Professor. He sees Moltres for the first time around this point.

-The family moves to Fortree City in Hoenn pretty soon after that.

-When they first arrive, Silver decides to go on a Pokémon journey around Hoenn, though he doesn’t quite know how to feel about Hoenn yet since he misses his hometown.

-Silver then catches a Duskull for Brandon and a Bagon for himself.

-5 years later, when Brandon turns 10, he goes on a Pokémon journey with Duskull as his “starter.” It evolves into Dusclops sometime on his journey.

-Brandon meets Kabu around this time, and they go on a journey together. (Kabu is about 2 years older than Brandon.)

-Neither Brandon nor Silver makes it to the Pokémon League- Brandon loses and Silver is disinterested.

-Silver and Brandon stay in Fortree with their family for some more years. Silver is Flying type Fortree Gym Leader from ages 18 to 25.

-Brandon remains close friends with Kabu, until he reveals that he is moving to Galar, without giving Brandon much notice.

-Brandon and Kabu’s friendship falls apart, with Brandon feeling more lonely than ever.

-Things become worse when Silver resigns as Gym Leader, saying that he is going back to the Johto-Kanto area to search for Moltres and reconnect with his hometown.

-Now mostly alone in Fortree, Brandon is approached by Scott after he sees him battling, finding his skills promising.

-However, since Brandon is only 20 at this point, Scott says that he has he has a proposition for him, but for Brandon to go to college and to get his life together a bit more first.

-In this time, Brandon travels to Sinnoh to study, where he meets Reggie’s mother, as well as becomes acquaintances with Byron.

-Brandon ends up marrying her, and Reggie is born, with Brandon being only 23. Reggie is born in Veilstone City. Since they’re both so young, they’re unsure about moving, but she and Reggie move with him to Hoenn for a while.

-5 years later, Brandon meets Scott again. Scott then proposes his idea- The Battle Frontier.

-After some planning, and a few years of construction, the Battle Frontier comes into fruition, and Brandon is named the first Frontier Brain. He soon catches Regirock, Registeel, Moltres, Zapdos, and Articuno. However, Regice takes much more time, since in the anime he doesn’t catch it until just before Ash’s third battle.

-It takes a while to gather the other Frontier Brains, since Brandon is around 28 at this point and both Anabel and Greta hadn’t even been born yet lmao.

-There were other people who were Frontier Brains until they resigned and were replaced by Anabel, Greta, Tucker, and Lucy, who are the youngest of the seven. Spenser, Noland, and Brandon have always been the only Frontier Brains of their respective facilities.

-Silver, after years of self discovery, returns to Hoenn for a while. Brandon is happy to see his brother again :)

-Silver dates Juan for some years. That..did not end well.

-A few rather uneventful years go by. Brandon and his wife unfortunately split up, but they decide to coparent after finding out about Paul.

-Because Brandon is so busy, his ex-wife decides to move back to Veilstone with Reggie and baby Paul, but Brandon splits his time between being a Frontier Brain and going to Sinnoh and spending time with Reggie and Paul. It’s a stressful time for him, but he’s a good dad :)

-Reggie goes on his journey.

-By the time Paul turns 10, he gains a bit of a disdain for his father. Brandon is good to him, but it’s also clear that he has many other responsibilities and can’t spend as much time with him as he’d like.

-The visits from Brandon become less practical as Paul becomes a little older and decides to go on a journey.

-When Paul starts his journey, he and Reggie both go to Hoenn for a bit so Reggie can challenge the Battle Frontier as he always wanted. Like the anime, he gets every Symbol except Brandon’s since he can’t defeat him. Reggie stops being a trainer.

-On one of his visits to Sinnoh, Brandon runs into Byron for the first time in nearly two decades. Two sad divorced men find happiness in each other. Good for them. They start dating uh..eventually.

-Silver has been overall a wanderer at this point, but when in Kanto he was approached by Cassidy and Butch about Moltres. The Search for the Legend plays out as normal. Silver meets Ritchie.

-Silver stays on the island for some more months, eventually catching Moltres in the process. His childhood dream has finally been fulfilled, but he doesn’t know what to do, now.

-Utterly lost, Silver does the only thing he knows to do, and returns home to see his brother. Brandon is 45 and Silver is 50 at this point.

-Silver challenges Brandon to a battle, like old times. Then, Ritchie walks in. What the fuck.

-Silver discovers that Ritchie is the younger brother of Brandon’s assistant, Samuel. The two are both orphans.

-Silver hangs out in Hoenn for a bit, mostly crashing at the Battle Pyramid, much to Brandon’s supposed “chagrin”..but he really doesn’t mind.

-Silver decides to come with Brandon one day to a Frontier Brain meeting, and he meets Palmer, and basically immediately falls in love with him.

-Silver, on a random visit to Slateport, gets scouted by Lisia??? He stares in utter disbelief. “What the fuck is a Pokémon Contest.” Silver becomes a Coordinator somehow??? And he’s really good?? No one understands it. Lisia knows all.

-Juan becomes Silver’s main rival.

-Silver, on a whim, decides to adopt Ritchie, and then Samuel, because why not. Brandon is - bit terrified at the concept of his insane brother being a father, but it’s clear Ritchie truly sees him as a dad, and Samuel is warming up to him, so he’s okay with it.

-Silver and Palmer start dating, and eventually get married. Ritchie, Samuel, and Barry are all stepbrothers now.

-Brandon reconnects with his sons more! He’s still a good dad.

-Brandon and Byron are still dating as well, and they get married eventually too.

-Brandon eventually reconciles his friendship with Kabu, and everyone is happy. I guess. Silver still wants Juan and Hunter J dead. The end.

It wasn't meant to be demeaning intentionally. Just a little entertaining when people find out that it's a roughly decade old character. On a side note, it does make me wonder if (hardcore) fans who wanted a Battle Frontier in every Gen actually remember any of the Frontier Brains at all? (Lucy might be an exception)

Some of the Frontier Brains are turning up in Masters EX - so far we've got Noland and Lucy from Hoenn and Darach, Thorton, and Palmer (unplayable so far) from Sinnoh.

Perhaps the most notable original Frontier Brain (i.e. Hoenn) is actually Anabel, given her appearance in Gen 7 - though she's obviously not a Frontier Brain anymore in that context. She has yet to turn up in Masters EX, but I can't imagine she won't, especially since Looker is now already there. Perhaps when they get to Alola in the Villains Arc storylines they'll add her.

Right now, as it stands with Masters EX, here are the battle facility heads not in the game:

Hoenn Battle Frontier: Brandon, Greta, Tucker, Spenser, Anabel (will likely show up as her Gen 7 self and not her prior identity as Salon Maiden)

Sinnoh Battle Frontier: Dahlia, Argenta (Palmer is in but unplayable)

Kalos Battle Chatelaines: Nita, Dana, Morgan

In general, I have a lot of thoughts about battle facilities and whatnot - the Battle Frontiers in Hoenn and Sinnoh were immensely popular with more serious players, and Game Freak struck gold with the Battle Subway. To this day, no battle facility heads have been more popular than Ingo and Emmet, and they're the only ones to get actual merch besides being on cards for the TCG. Game Freak tried to repeat that success with the Battle Chatelaines, four siblings, but they didn't seem to be picked up as well as Submas was (except maybe Evelyn, who has made it into Masters EX). Things have really been on the decline since - Alola's Battle Tree did give us Red and Blue all grown up, which was great, but Gen 8 just...did not follow up. We returned to a Battle Tower, and you don't even get to meet a facility head in Doubles. It's just Leon, and he only turns up in Singles. Considering the competitive game actually revolves around Doubles, it feels odd. I'm really hoping for a good battle facility in Scarlet and Violet.

As a side note, some of the Frontier Brains played a bigger role in the anime. (Pyramid King) Brandon actually was an important character by the time the anime reached Sinnoh, which is a bit odd because he was a Hoenn Frontier Brain, but he wiped the floor with Paul with his Regis, which was probably very satisfying to watch.

Would it be funny if I made an au where the hoenn frontier brains all get eeby deebied but to explicitly different universes . Like Anabel sticks from Non mega to Mega but then you look over a little . Lucy is still in Non Mega but now she's got amnesia and also in the Castelia city sewers . Brandon somehow finds himself in the anime timeline. Noland get's Mystery Dungeon'd. Tucker somewhere in the manga's universe. Greta's face down on the beaches of The Trading Card Game Islands. Spenser's in Ransei.
