I love both samantha barks and lea sologna as eponine so much like genuinely perfect casting but I will never be able to get frances ruffelle's "and I knowww it's only in my miiIIIND that iM TALKING TO MYSYAlf and not to hiiiiiiiiim" out of my head like she sings the FUCK outta that line, her stylistic choices are so fantastic, she sounds so anguished and young, I can't get over it

What Are Your Top 5 Favorite Musical Songs?
Here are mine(in no particular order):
On My Own: Although I’ve haven’t experienced romantic love yet, I adore this song! It’s well orchestrated and sung by Frances Ruffelle, her voice is beautiful.
The Wizard & I: I can relate to Elphaba’s wish to be accepted since I felt that way too. Idina Menzel’s sings amazingly and gets into character so well. I also saw this song performed live and the way it’s done on stage made me like this song more.
Satisfied: Love the blending of rapping and regular singing in this song. It works so well! Renée Elise Goldsberry nails it and made me see Angelica in a different, but good way.
Breathe: I haven’t heard the whole soundtrack yet, but “Breathe” is such a standout to me so far. Again, I relate to Nina’s fear of disappointing her family(I feel that way 24/7). Mandy Gonzalez sings very well and her high notes are delightful to hear. As an Hispanic, I really enjoyed the addition of Spanish.
I Don’t Need Your Love: Izuka Hoyle nails the vulnerability of Catherine Parr’s sad story of losing her love, and her growing confidence in herself later on. The latter part of the song makes me feel so powerful. All the women singing together by the end was so good! Their voices blended so well together.

1994 Dublin - Number 4 - Frances Ruffelle - "We Will Be Free (Lonely Symphony)"
I wasn't going to deprive you of the UKs actually Eurovision entry now, was I? One of the UKs best attempts in years yielded one of the worst results (10th) and sent the BBC back to drawing board scratching its head. This was the last year (for a while at least) that they indulged in a song selection contest.
Frances Ruffelle should have been a winner. She's was an absolute star of the West End and Broadway stage having been an original cast member in Les Miserables and Starlight Express as well as playing Roxie Hart in Chicago. She's won a Tony award. She was one of those names that's very-well known to theatre goers and virtually unknown outside of that circle. She can act and she can certainly swing. She can also sway her hips a lot - something proven by the Song for Europe contest in which she does variations on the same move for all eight songs.
The song is great - a euphoric acclamation of independence and freedom that contains some clever rhymes, a killer pre-chorus rising out of a twisty, minor keyed verse. The strings in the bridge take us on a journey back to the joy too. There is no hopelessness here, just a wide eyed enthusiasm for the future.
It should have done better - why didn't it? Well it was sixth on out of 25, which can't have helped. Also the sound mixing seems to have favoured the backing singers over Frances's own voice. There's also the weird choice of having a grating, effects-laden guitar (or synth, I can't tell the effects are too distorting) accompanying everything.
More recently this is having something of a renaissance which is much deserved. Frances hasn't been back to Eurovision, but she surely needs to be remembered as one of its stars. Since Eurovision, she's headed back to stage and continues to sing from it.
