you seem so knowledgeable about football, do you know any good resources where i could start learning about analysing matches and players? i barely understand the offside rule tbh
Truth be told, I barely knew about tactics until 5 years ago more or less, I knew the rules, a lil bit of position tactics (4-3-3 vs 3-5-2 vs 4-4-2 etc or how the players are divided in the field) and some of the positions, like striker, defense and defender but did not know the nuances between a regular midfielder (Pedri/Gavi) and defensive midfielder (Busi/ sometimes Frenkie) that comes the more you watch and also if you look it up and look into tactics videos or hear podcasts/streamers. I started hearing/watching football podcasts and streamers and watching youtube stuff about fc barcelona tactics and that made me learn a lot in a small amount of time (last few years vs watching football for 15-20 years and 10 plus watching Barça and talking to friends about Barça) and I’m still learning. I’m gonna link a couple of things, all in English, if someone wants this same info in Spanish let me know I can look it up for you
So: the most basic rules about football HERE positions explained (like Robert Lewandowski is the number 9, but they are not referring to his jersey) HERE
Now that you know that here here some fc barcelona specific videos. Cruyff (ex Barça player and Barça manager video about him here ) revolutionized fc barcelona played. He invented something called total football, possession based football (which is what Barça tried plays), where want to have the ball most of the game and you defend with the ball as well, you defend by having the ball, its also vital is to open the field and be effective in passing, usually try to be as fast and precise as possible (this why they do the rondos in practice) where you try to get the opponent to double up on the man with the ball so you can open a player up and also have a third man who is involved etc. Its usually played with a 4-3-3 but it could be played other ways. Here and here are two Xavi (Spanish with English subtitles) videos of Xavi explaining his tactics which are Cruyff type of tactics. Pep (cool video positional play video here), Lucho, Arteta; and Erik Ten Hag also played this style or version of it. Also The four P rule in Barcelona’s tactics HERE . I obviously have a Barça bias, but for example things that Xavi is trying out sometimes: that you can learn: false winger , false 9 and double pivot. Look them up in youtube or tiktok like “double pivot explained” FcB is also associated with the tiki taka: take the ball, pass the ball. Look that up too. A good youtuber to explain tactics in a simple way is The Purist and he is also a Barça fan, so he analyzes lots of Barça tactics in a very simple way, I recommend checking him out. Here’s a video of prime example of Barcelona Tiki Taka and it’s crazy here bc it almost looks like a training Rondo out there. this is from the 2023 Spanish Supercup. If you have any specific questions let me know but space those videos out btw, bc it can be a lot of info and boring if you dont. xoxo

As a long standing and some may say suffering fan of The Boro I find myself living and working away from my beloved Teesside. So social media, TV and radio become my eyes and ears on Boro both as a team and as a town.
Tumblr media
It has become apparent through my wanderings online that there are many types of Boro fans out there with some very different views. So I've encountered are:
'Can do no wrong Dave'. Dave sees the positive in everything Boro. A 7-0 defeat would somehow be unlucky or due to a poor ref. Relegation to the South Bank Sunday League 8th division would be celebrated. Boro can do no wrong.
'Do no right Brian'. Brian can see nothing positive at all. Winning the Premier League would be a poor show for some reason. Who loves the words, I hope the prove me wrong, while of course loving that they probably won't. Whoever the current manager is, is shocking and clueless and of course there is zero support from the chairman. He lives his life to see Boro struggle.
'Never been to game Nev'. Nev loves Boro, loves football and has a wealth of tactical and scouting experience which he loves to share. Sadly he has never seen a game nor played footy and picks his tactical astuteness from football League world.
Football Manager Freddie. Freddie has taken Boro to numerous Champions League successes and knows what it takes to be a top manager. His scouting knowledge is outstanding, especially of players with 10+ stamina.
Recognise yourself yet? Which are you?
More to follow. Up The Boro!!!

Evolution of Football: From its Origins to Modern-Day Play
Tumblr media
Football, or soccer as it's known in some parts of the world, is one of the most popular and beloved sports worldwide. But how did it all start? From its origins to modern-day play, the evolution of football is a fascinating story that has captured the hearts and minds of millions. We have a variety of blogs filled with details about football, so if you want to know more about football then visit this page at: " Football Sports "
Origins of Football: A Game of Simplicity
The origins of football can be traced back to ancient civilizations in China, Japan, and Greece, where various forms of ball games were played. However, the modern version of football we know today has its roots in England during the 19th century. The game was initially played by schoolboys who would kick a ball around, using their feet and hands to maneuver it.
The game was relatively simple, with few rules and no specific position requirements. It was played on an open field, and the goalposts were often makeshift. As the game became more popular, it evolved, and a set of standard rules were introduced.
The Evolution of Football Rules
The first football association was formed in England in 1863, which led to the development of the modern rules of the game. Among the most significant changes was the introduction of the offside rule, which required a player to have at least two opponents between themselves and the goal when the ball was played. You can also read this on our other page: Evolution Of Football
Over time, the rules of football continued to evolve. In the early 1900s, the game became more structured, and specific positions were introduced. The 2-3-5 formation was widely used, which consisted of two fullbacks, three halfbacks, and five forwards. The goalkeeper was also introduced as a specialist position.
The Evolution of Football Tactics
As football continued to evolve, new tactics were introduced to the game. In the 1950s, the 4-2-4 formation was developed, which gave more emphasis on attack. In this formation, four defenders, two midfielders, and four forwards were used.
The 1970s saw the introduction of the Total Football strategy, which was popularized by the Dutch national team. This tactic emphasized flexibility and required players to be able to play in multiple positions on the field.
In the modern game, coaches have developed new tactics and strategies, such as the Tiki-Taka style of play used by Barcelona and the Gegenpressing strategy used by Liverpool. These tactics focus on maintaining possession of the ball and high-pressing defense, respectively.
The Evolution of Football Equipment
Another significant aspect of the evolution of football is the equipment used by players. In the early days of the game, players would wear leather boots with metal studs, and the ball was made of leather. Goalkeepers would often play without gloves and be allowed to handle the ball outside the penalty area.
Today, football equipment has advanced significantly. Players wear lightweight boots made of synthetic materials, and the ball is made of synthetic materials that are more durable and provide better control. Goalkeepers wear specialized gloves that give them more grip and protection.
The Evolution of Football Fans and Media
Tumblr media
Football's evolution is not just limited to the game itself but also extends to the fans and media coverage. In the early days of the sport, fans would gather at local parks to watch games. As the game grew in popularity, fans started attending professional matches in stadiums.
The development of the internet and social media has also transformed the way fans interact with the sport. Fans can now watch live games from anywhere in the world and engage with other fans on social media platforms. I'm sure you would also like this: "American Football Forever: A Style That Will Always Survive."
The media coverage of football has also evolved significantly over the years. In the early days of the sport, newspapers were the primary source of information about games, but today, fans can access football news and highlight through television, streaming services, and social media.
Conclusion
The evolution of football has been a journey from simplicity to complexity, and from a local pastime to a global phenomenon. From its humble origins to modern-day play, the game has changed significantly, but its essence remains the same. It's a game that brings people together and inspires passion and loyalty among fans worldwide.
As football continues to evolve, we can expect to see more changes in the future. New technologies and strategies will be developed, and the sport will continue to grow and captivate audiences worldwide. One thing is for sure; the evolution of football is far from over, and we can't wait to see where it goes next.

Where's our Chuba gone?
With the announcement of the team last night Facebook exploded with 'Wheres Chuba' mania.
Geoff Thomas came up with a cracker
A striker on top of his game, banging the goals in, ... and not in the team.
Colin Ibitson was a little less wordy
No Akpom? I ridiculous
Paul Frack really went for it.
1 striker starts who can't hit a barn door. The one in form nowhere to be seen. Super negative line up from wilder. I trust he knows what he's doing.
Sadly for our keyboard warriors they were soon cut down. Plenty of fans asking how they could have missed the fact that Akpom was injured in the last game.
Stephen Marlborough summed it up well.
Lot of people on here either dont go to games or read papers, soial media etc it was certain Apom wasnt going to play tonight ffs he played through the pain barrier on sunday. Lets all get behind our boys and leave the team selection to the people who know best.
I hear Chuba is likely to be back for the Reading game at the weekend, let's hope so, I'm not sure I could take another game of 'wheres Akpom'
