#first time my collarbone subluxated
My joints are hypermobile and constantly subluxate. I have to move my joints back into place all the time. My back is often the most difficult to put back everything into place. One spot on my spine in particular (obviously that's the one that causes the most damage when it's subluxated....)
I tried to move my vertebrae back into place, which only works about half the time. Today it did not. I did manage to subluxate my collarbone though! Yayy!

Basic dislocation/subluxation first aid
Keep in mind I am not a doctor, this is information I've gathered from medical sources and personal experience. I've done my best to link sources.
Some vocabulary first:
Dislocation - A bone is out of place to the extent that the bones are no longer touching
Subluxation - A bone is partially out of place but still touching the other bone
Dangers
When dealing with frequent dislocations and subluxations it's important to note that dislocating some joints is more dangerous than dislocating other joints. While all dislocations are medical emergencies some people choose not to go to the hospital for all dislocations and subluxations they experience however there are some that absolutely require emergency attention. In particular:
Vertebrae - Dislocating or subluxating a vertebra will cause a spinal cord injury. It's important that you seek emergency care to evaluate the extent of the damage and prevent further damage as severing your spinal cord completely can be fatal.
Collarbone - If your collarbone dislocates inwards it's important to seek emergency care to prevent further damage. A dislocated collarbone can cause life threatening problems with breathing and blood flow.
Knee - If your knee (not kneecap) dislocates it's important to seek emergency care as up to 40% of knee dislocations cause vascular injury that can threaten the entire limb if untreated
And while not all dislocations and subluxations are life or limb threatening all will damage your soft tissues in the surrounding area. A joint popping out of place is bludgeoning in all the surrounding structures in the process. That's why it's important to take care of your dislocations and subluxations correctly.
Improperly healing a dislocation or subluxation also poses its own risks. When dislocations and subluxations first happen the tissues holding the joint in are damaged making it easier to dislocate/subluxate a joint again. Not allowing these tissues to heal poses risk of additional dislocations and subluxations and can create a vicious cycle of tissue damage.
Reduction (Relocation)
Jaw
Vertebra - Go to the ER
Collarbone - Requires medical assistance
Shoulder
Elbow
Finger
Hip
Knee
Kneecap
Ankle
Toe
There were no available guides on reduction for wrists and ribs
What to do following a dislocation/subluxation
Reduce the joint
Apply a brace or splint to the joint. This brace will need to stay on for several weeks-months to allow the soft tissues to heal. This brace is more than a day-long commitment. Bracing is important because it stabilizes the joint while soft tissues heal and prevents further dislocations/subluxations.
Take weight off of the joint/avoid using the joint for 1-2 weeks. When people have been dealing with chronic pain it's easy to try to continue using a recently dislocated/subluxated joint. That joint needs time to heal and that healing will only happen with rest.
-> "I dislocate/subluxate joints so frequently that I cannot possibly do this"
I would make sure that what you're experiencing are actually dislocations/subluxations. A lot of people with disorders that cause subluxations/dislocations mistake ligaments and tendons popping for subluxations and mistake subluxations for dislocations. This causes people to think they are subluxating/dislocating many more joints than they actually are.
If you are truly experiencing that many dislocations/subluxations I would strongly recommend speaking to an orthopedist to discuss bracing and/or surgery for your joints.
If you aren't able to see an orthopedist it's still worth trying the above steps to the best of your ability.

more medical garbage bitching dont mind me (feel free to blacklist camyellsOW to ignore these)
im liking being able to look back on these before other appointments
im currently on hold with my insurance because my rheumatologist listened to me and he wrote me a prescription for ring splints and I called around to physical therapy offices and found one that has hand therapy and can take my and my appointment is in less than 3 weeks which for PT in my area and PT as specific as this thats AMAZING holy shit. Its actually closer to two weeks than 3 but I feel like im doxxing myself if i say specifics lmao
so im calling my insurance company to see if they can tell me ahead of time if there are a fuckload of hoops im going to have to jump through in order to get my splints
for the first time ever I feel kind of hopeful about my joint health. Were doing a lyme disease blood panel to see if thats the source of my nausea, dizziness, fatigue, and headaches. He ordered a couple more things Im going to google
I told him that I know we need to do physical therapy first but eventually id love to talk to him about a wheelchair and he said no and I started crying again and he was like I think thats a bad idea let me tell you why and I was like NO thats internalized ableism and thats a YOU problem! Wheelchairs are mobility they are FREEDOM. I cannot currently lift enough laundry at once to fill the washer without subluxing my shoulder/collarbone so I have to take multiple trips and frequently have to sit down between trips but with a wheelchair Id have the freedom and capability to just do a load of laundry. I already cook having to sit down. You can have an amazing wonderful fulfillling life in wheelchair that you cant have when youre in bed every day because everything hurts so much. You can tell me not right now or maybe in the future but just a no is the most hopeless answer you can give me. That is a YOU problem.
and he like did a little head tilt like a dog and was like. You know what? Youre right. Thats something I need to reevaluate in my own head. So, youre right I wont tell you know, but Ill tell you first we need to try physical therapy
that fucking honesty is why I love him so much. He was like "you need a therapist" and i was like dude if you tell me that one more time im going to start crying again I KNOW
and I apologized and thanked him for dealing with my anger because i just angry cried at him basically the entire appointment and he just said Its okay, I know Im not who youre mad at. I wont take it personally and holy shit that was just the biggest load off of my back and I was like no youre right im literally just mad at my body. At one point he said "you know im empathetic, I bet it does hurt that bad." Like holy shit Dr G you are a king amongst doctors. He had knee surgery recently and I used it against him and he didnt even get mad. In my angry crying I was like you just had knee surgery. Sitting in bed wallowing in pain all day. It fucking sucks doesnt it? Imagine twenty five fucking YEARS of that! and he just nodded and digested that and was like yeah, I hear you.
This man is the best doctor in the world
at the very least im on my way to my ring splints which will help my quality of life SO fucking much holy shit
I also told him about the highly unprofessional cardiologist i saw who just told me I was fat and showed me his grandsons fortnite youtube channel and he was like wow literally what? and I was like I dont know man. And then he talked shit about cardiologists and how they tend to be fuckin weirdos with egos and i was like yo go off my shady king
but on the bright side in less than a week were placing that heart monitor and it will be recording for two weeks and hopefully after that i can obtain my POTS diagnosis and hopefully thatll put me one step closer to being an ambulatory wheelchair user. Id love to still be upright and use my cane when I can but a wheelchair for bad days would be lifechanging
my oldest childhood friend is able bodied the idea of being able to just get a coffee and walk around target with her pain free makes me want to cry THAT is a hopeful future

Zebras of Tumblr, I need your help!
How do you tape your shoulder?
I have been dislocating my right shoulder very frequently over the past month or two and I'm not 100% why right now, but this most recent time I didn't pop it back in properly and had to go to the ER to get help popping my shoulder back into socket It really hurts and I feel like I might have damaged around my rotator cuff or other shoulder ligaments.
When I was at the emergency room, one of the doctors suggested using KT tape until I can see an orthopedic specialist, but they didn't do a CT for us to know exactly what was injured and what I should be taping.
What I do know is that originally my shoulder was dislocated forwards towards my collarbone, I popped it back in by laying on a bed with my arm out stretch on 90° angle at the shoulder and putting pressure on the joint by rolling towards it. Instead of it popping back in properly it started losing feeling and eventually started losing circulation and the doctor stated that my shoulder had subluxed downward and inward in the socket. I do not have access to the x-rays because I don't have a patient portal for that hospital, but whenever they did the first x-ray they said that looked fine until they examined it at which point they realized that it wasn't actually fully in place.
Most of the pain from it is in my shoulder socket, like where the string on a ball jointed doll would be, but the spasms that I'm having are more towards my shoulder blade. I usually have more hypermobility and dislocations in my lower limbs so I am not as familiar or good at popping these things back in or taking care of these injuries.
If literally anyone has more experience with putting KT tape on a shoulder that is healing from this kind of dislocation or subluxation, please let me know because I'm not used to using KT tape at all and we only really agreed to the suggestion because it was inexpensive and because I don't have a lot of other options right now. I have a sling somewhere and a shoulder brace somewhere but I don't know where they are because of us being in a temporary living situation with most of our stuff in storage.
Please give me advice on how to put KT tape on my shoulder.

If we could describe or know several of those misconceptions that it can assist people to feel comfortable about chiropractic attention. Below are a few of those myths and also an explanation of these truth.
Chiropractors can simply treat spine issues : While physicians are famous for treating spinal issues and back pain, chiropractic treatment itself is much of a holistic approach centered on fixing spinal issues which consequently helps each one the human anatomy to use in its optimum functioning. Chiropractic maybe not helps alleviate back pain, but might also be helpful cure a young child's ear disease, a individual's headaches, lower blood pressure, help alleviate the pain of gout, and several other ailments.

Chiropractors may prescribe medicine and perform operation: While many physicians may possibly offer heat/cold therapy, offer other kinds of physical therapy and also manage herbal therapy, they usually do not prescribe medication nor do they function operation. Chiropractic it self relies upon the thought that your human body can heal it self and also the chiropractor is helping your system to chiropractic clinic Bentonville AR see its inherent ability to achieve that. They have to pass national board exams and certification evaluations just like all licensed physicians before they are able to practice. As soon as you visit a chiropractor you've got to pick the remainder of one's lifetime: a great deal of individuals confuse upkeep appointments using a endless chain of visits to your dentist. They enjoy the huge benefits of chiropractic care. Each individual is different as is the position and treatment plans derive from the requirements of the person. Some body said that I have a nerve wracking: Truly a pinched nerve is actually a bone onto the nerve and it's an uncommon incident, occurring simply to approximately 15 percent of the people. Most likely you've got a bloated nerve or perhaps a facilitative lesion. Chiropractic might help this illness. Chiropractic for Kids?
youtube
Subluxations do occur in kids and frequently have little if any symptoms in this early period. The arrival process is a rather traumatic experience for a youngster's human body and also may undoubtedly induce enough pressure to get a subluxation that occurs. I will be certain that you've been aware about deliveries leading to broken collarbones and breech deliveries, etc..
Subluxations may also occur once the kid is learning how to walk and when they have been mature and playing with sport and games. What's essential to see is that kids have certain windows of development which are frequently simply open for a quick time period. That really is based by the neural network that's the very first system formed at a youngster's development. In the event the neural network is being influenced by subluxation your youngster's capacity continues to be limited. Chiropractic moms have promised their kids are more expressive, so aren't getting sick as often and also have better attention compared to people that usually do not gain from chiropractic therapy.

Other things today:
This specialist works out of her home, built an office into her house. Really rad.
It was pouring when we got there and we saw a kitty sleeping under an awning
When I walked in she said, “you must be the patient—wha! You can’t be 27, you look like you’re 18!” and then when she saw my dad, “and you look like you’re 20!” xD My dad blushed when he picked me up because she was all, “18 year olds with 20 year old dads!”
After the procedure she said she was glad my dad drove me there because I mean. I felt sooooo weird. I felt like a toddler who just learned how to walk. It all felt kind of dream-like too and on the ride home I was like O_O zzzz O_O zzzz
I went over my whole pain/fatigue management routine and general diet with her and she told me which things to eliminate or moderate and which to keep doing. Part of it is I have to train my body how to heat itself up again, since I’ve had such poor circulation all these years and have had to rely on heating pads/hot tea/etc, it doesn’t know how to be warm itself. She kept repeating, “don’t take away jobs from your body or it won’t even try to do anything.”
The whole time she kept refilling cups of water for me to drink and said she could tell how dehydrated I was even before I mentioned the vomiting and night sweating. Also because my body will need a lot of water during this healing process.
She had 3 adorable dogs. The smallest kept running in to sit on my lap in between the x-rays and the big one kept coming to peek at me from afar and come over for pets. She said I’m the first patient of hers he’s approached. He’s a rescue doberman/greyhound mix who doesn’t usually trust women.
Her husband brought us a plate of grapes, cheese, and crackers to munch on while she worked on taking all the measurements on my x-rays. Then she put on a video showing how the procedure goes.
When she was done I asked if it was obvious just looking that something was really wrong and she said yep. I told her how for the past few years I’ve been begging my doctors to do something about my neck because I felt that since the pain was the worst there, that it might be the source of a lot of my problems. But the doctors and radiologists always just said, “nope, nothing weird. You’ve just got a muscle spasm, here’s Flexeril and a referral to physical therapy.” And how even recently with my newish doctor who wants to help but has her hands tied by the insurance, all she could do was give me opiates and suggest I get therapy and take anti-depressants. This specialist said how so many people come to her and she’s the last stop on their journey to good health. She’s heard stories like mine for as long as she’s been doing this. The healthcare system yanks us around and makes us suffer even more and then we do research and learn about atlas subluxation, and then she gets the phone call.  Apparently she doesn’t see most people anymore after three or so appointments because there is no need to.
She says NO lifting more than 5lbs and wrote me a note for work. We’ll see how this goes lol.
She says my other people (chiro/acu/mass) aren’t allowed to touch my neck for awhile.
She showed me how to properly sit at my desk and what position to sleep in.
She suggests I try drinking raw milk because it will boost my system even more during this healing time.
The patient who came after me was apparently the daughter of the man who helped create the machine they use for this procedure. That’s like. Huge chiropractic history right there, I mean. This kind of treatment isn’t exactly new or unheard of but it’s still just... not recognized by conventional medicine. Which is so damn weird.
She said that I should become a doctor too and told my dad that I’m really smart and will be even smarter now that my brain has the right connections. I blushed a lot ; ; lol thanks doc
Since the onset of weird symptoms was way back when I was 6 years old, she asked, “did something happen when you were 6, like a car accident or any broken bones?” and I explained that I fractured my collarbone at that age playing with my sister. She’d been kicking me into the air to launch me at pillows but one kick I went waaaay up and then waaay down, right onto my back, bam. And the specialist goes, “oh, well, there ya go. That’d knock anyone out of alignment.” And this makes even more sense because the general onset for illness from atlas subluxation (and it getting more misaligned over time) is 10-15 years. I was 6 when that happened, soon developed stomach cramps that made me miss school, was diagnosed lactose intolerant and by age 7-8 I was having bad back pains all day long, was told to just get a rolly backpack, and just always reaaaally tired in school. I also did a lot of sleep-walking and had frequent nightmares. By 13 I had my first sleep paralysis episode, 17 had my first vomiting spell, 21 when I got my ulcerative colitis diagnosis, and from there things started to snowball to being 23 when the narcolepsy was so out of control I couldn’t function, 24 when they discovered I also have fibromyalgia, and this isn’t even counting all of my little chronic things like psoriasis. It also made sense considering most fibro patients have this problem and it made me wonder about the ones who don’t, and maybe those are the ones who I’m blown away by because they just take magnesium and do a little yoga and they say it’s not so bad after that, but for me it got to be excruucciiiaattingggg and barely able to do things.
The last thing on the checklist of stuff she wanted me to do was “think positive thoughts.” I have to remember that my body and brain are going to need time to adjust to suddenly being able to communicate properly and I’m going to have to keep putting in my best effort to help them along the way.
