Speaking of the Hydaelyn trial, as a tank main, I am a very big fan of the inherent tenderness of taking the shared tankbuster with Thancred. I've seen like a billion posts and art commenting on it before, and there's just something about two tanks protecting each other that's just so oddly intimate.

Thancred just booking it across the arena to be at Shiun's side when he sees he's being targeted by a hit he knows he can't take alone. Imagining Shiun still practically wrapping himself around Thancred to shield him as best as he can. Each of them using all their abilities to soften the impact, trying to keep the other from harm. Thinking about them fending off a mighty blow with their combined strength in a shower of sparks, so close together that they're almost one. A shared look of relief and silent reassurance that "I have your back" as they break apart to continue the fight once the attack has passed.

Yeah idk, seems kinda gay to me.

Just saw a post on Twitter whinging about tanks who don't wall-to-wall pull in every single duty on FFXIV. There was no mention of what level of content in the initial poat, though when rebuffed by people mentioning new tanks/ARR duties, they were like 'Yea, okay but in level 90 ypu should always wall-to-wall or you are wasting everyone's time". I found this post because it was QRT'd by another FFXIVer and artist I follow and THEIR take was much better:

"If you load in a dungeon and immediately pull wall to wall without checking if your healer is ok with it, your mom's a hoe

If you're the healer and don't respect your tank's pace, your mom's also a hoe"

Made me chuckle and lookong through the original tweets comments... the OP of the quoted tweet (the one who said wall-to-wall) was very much making fun of anyone expressing logical and reasonable reasons why someone might not do it. And when someone was like, "If it'a too slow, just eat the abandonment timer", and OP was like "Nah, I'll just be annoyed and do the thing".

...then why are you whinging about it? Have to wonder sometimes. Like, if a person is regularly running duties throughout the game (not just MSQ stuff), then they've got time to get comfortable with their toolkit and their own style. I myself tend to be cautious with my pulls, but if a healer says "Feel free to pull more", I will.

Just... Please be careful with that request. I did that one time. Was a mess LOL. I would say if the tank does not have their full toolkit, wall-to-wall might not be a good idea. We get Rampart at level 8 for PLD, and that is our only mitigation until Reprisal at level 22. Then we get Shelltron and Sentinel at levels 35 and 38, respectively.

Just be aware what tools they have available, and if they seem to be having some trouble, give them some pointers! Don't be like WoW PUGs and vote to kick if the tank is having trouble, or being cautious. Speaking from personal experience - first run in a new dungeon with a friend and some randos. It was an issue with an impatient Hunter who kept asspulling everything. I was tryingto pull individual groups and focusing on busting casters and keep the healer (my friend) safe. Which is hard when I am mid-rotation and another mob pack shows up! Not a patrol! Just the Hunter not watching what he was doing and backing into shit. He put up a vote to kick, which my friend told me about and vetoed. Then my friend put a vote to kick him and then we got someone who wasn't a shitheel and finished the run.

Thankfully, my experience on FFXIV has been positive all-around, mostly because of video guides and also giving a heads-up to the group when it's my first run.

Okay, this got away from me (as rants usually do >.<). Just... Be patient and help each other enjoy the game and don't be a dick.

anyway healing is less scary when communicating with tanks on what I need from them and them adjusting accordingly, especially fond of the one while in a leveling roul with gigi tonight who I told that big pulls were fine but asked to wait until each was done before moving onto the next so the casters in our party could keep up and they did with the sweetest lil chat exchange ;—;

My god I nearly gave myself a heartattack, I just tanked in the bowl of embers on accident, I didn't even realise I was on tank until the battle was on!!!

Just some random things about my WoL that I need to get out of my brain:

They were originally going to be a BKM, but the thought of being able to poke at people with a plastic sword toothpick AND do magic really bought them into RDM

They don't like hugs, but they would accept them if given one. They give the squishiest of hugs- like they would make the squeaky toy noise if possible- which Flow exploits by grabbing them by the scruff of their clothes so that they can't run from his hugs lol

Complains about neck pain a bunch- especially during their time in Ishgard when everyone around them is a tall-af elezen and they are a short-af lalafell...

Speaking of Ishgard, Bell loves Ishgardian weather- the dreary clouds that cover the sky, the crunchy snow beneath their feet, the fog that rolls over every time it rains- anything other than the hot air in Ul'dah is better and Ishgard checks all of those boxes; it's just like the stories they've heard.

They're usually not very talkative, preferring to talk as little as possible- leaving it to Alphie to fill in the empty air.

They have also tried this on Estinien. It also did not go well.

Due to their unfortunate height, Bell has developed a habit of jumping onto a taller friend's back to get a better look at various things. They do this to both Thancred and Flow(bf's WoL) the most often as the both of them feel the most stable when jumping up on(they're both tanks).

They tried it on Alphinaud once as a test and the boy fell ass bsckwards... never again.

In adjacent to that, they also tend to hold on to a stray piece of flowing fabric/loose pants leg on others for comfort; it helps them stay grounded and not lash out during a stressful confrontation(without combat) that requires careful wording- diplomatic stuff really. They hate forced social interaction.

They are prone to snap at others- coming off as rude or insensitive- due to their upbringing and see the worst in people before they can see the good. It took a while for them to really be friendly to a lot of the Scions- especially to Minfillia. They just could not wrap around their head that she just wants to do good, without a bad ulterior motive. It does not help that they(Bell) have a resting bitch face.

However on the flip side, once they warm up to someone, they are more careful with their words- still very curt and blunt, but not as "murderous" as they are to strangers. The rude behavior is a defense mechanism so that they don't get hurt if they get too attached.. A real tsundere if you ask me-

Bell was born and raised in Ul'dah! They were supposed to take on the family business and namesake but instead they ran away from home- stealing a bit of gil from their vault- and hiding in odd places around the Black Shroud until the gil ran out and they needed a job. Sooooo they came BACK to Ul'dah to be a Thaumaturge, all the while they try to dodge any interation with their parents' employees. Fun times :)

Mahi is their longest and most sarcastic loyal retainer, a rather tall elezen man who has journeyed with Bell for a little bit during their stay in Gridania- opting to become their retainer when they decided to go back to Ul'dah. He's also the one who told stories about his time in Ishgard to them.

Unlike their DND counterpart, FFXIV!Bell is just nicer overall. They at least acknowledge their mannerisms are sometimes very prickly and aren't as pessimistic nor actively hostile towards others. They are trying!! To be!! Better!!

Have they fallen in love before? Yes. It started off as a lil tingle in their chest, and grew to quite the size... But when they found out that the person they had feelings for had his heart somewhere else, they smothered it deep, deep down.

To change the topic now, Bell deals with pain in the worst way possible: holding onto it until it makes them collapse :)

Their mannerisms have instead taken hold of how they act around him- like taking glances at him when he's not looking. They don't notice any changes though and will probably not accept it unless locked in a room forced to confess or something.

They won't say a thing about their problems and needs unless they are dying and it worries Alphy so much- pretty sure they have given him too many things to worry about whoops-

Good thing both of their hairs are white so it can hide all the stress

Hey tanks? Did you know that Provoke isn’t just for waving your “No, I wanna be main tank” e-peen around? Sometimes it can serve a very real and practical purpose. “No, duh! It’s for tank swaps” you say? No no think smaller! Say, for instance you and your co-tank were recently obliterated by a mechanic shifting aggro to the strongest DPS? “Eh they’ll just panic and die in a second or two” you think to yourself but instead this stalwart little Mon- I mean DPS is actually holding the boss as if he, I mean they, were a tank and with the combined power of literally every applicable defensive ability they have happens to be lasting *gasp* through multiple auto attacks! Now clearly they can’t keep this up and they’ll die soon and you can just step up and take your rightful place right? Wrong you little moron, the boss has begun an easily dodged mechanic allowing this little trooper of a DPS to gain more health back using…what is that? Bloodbath? “This guy must really know his stuff” you think to yourself before letting the thought leave your mind and going back to NOT doing your only job. Well the boss is back on this funky little DPS and things aren’t looking good. All of their defensive buffs are gone and those auto attacks are really rocking him now but you can’t help but notice you still haven’t regained aggro! I mean you’re hitting the boss and your stance is on. What else could you possibly do but wait for your teammates flame to be snuffed out? You feel certain you have some kind of ability that could easily put you back on top in the click of a button but what was it called? Maybe it was Fell Cleav- Oh! The Monk is dead. Finally, now you can stop thinking about this mysterious button and muddle through your rotation again like normal.

Also healers you are not free of sin. I know you don’t trust the other healer but at the very least once both tanks or up save one of those big overhealing spells you’re gonna waste on them for me. Just one so I know you’re aware. Anything bro. I’d ask one of you to just keep healing me and keep me alive but if I stop to type I’ll die because I need to hit the boss for blood bath and please anyone just…one more time. Hegemone graced me with healers that took care of me as I filled in for a DC’ed co-tank but I have never been granted that kindness again unless it was Xavier who I am actively speaking to.

i still think about the 2 commendations I got as DRK during Duty Roulette (tbh I don't think I should have gotten them a;dlkjdsf) and remembering how shit I was in the dungeon (I forgot the name of the dungeon but it's the one with the stupid eyeball guy you need to hit near the purple crystals) cuz I still have Tankxiety 😭

to the other three who were patient with me, thank you. also I'm so sorry for dying twice and accidentally pulling so many mobs and almost making us wipe completely 😭😭😭
