(from ask) Rufus Shin-Ra from Final Fantasy VII is a blond jerk! Rufus is a corporate overlord, the nepo baby heir to his late father, the previous president of the Shin-Ra Electric Power Company. Shin-Ra Inc. effectively owns the city of Midgar and its inhabitants and controls several cities and villages; kidnaps and experiments on live humans, including children, including newborns and unborn babies; murders any opposition; uses its own army (known as SOLDIER) to invade another country and turns it into a tribute state; and is responsible for polluting the Planet to the point of triggering the apocalypse. Every natural right that a human possesses has been violated by Shin-Ra Inc. Rufus intends to further increase the company's power and reputation. Btw the Planet is on the path to destruction, and one of Shin-Ra's human experiments has become a mass-murdering mutant bent on genocide (again). Rufus tries to continue covering up Shin-Ra's crimes by pinning the blame on the heroes, and sets up a public execution for two of them as terrorists. He also makes his dog maul people. Notable quotes include: "I'll let you hear my new appointment speech. Old man tried to control the world with money. It seems to have been working. The population thought that Shinra would protect them. Work at Shinra, get your pay. If a terrorist attacks, the Shinra army will help you. It looks perfect on the outside. But, I do things differently. I'll control the world with fear. It takes too much to do it like my old man. A little fear will control the minds of the common people. There's no reason to waste money on them." and also "You're a SOLDIER, aren't you? Which of course, would mean that I own you." He seemingly died by his own hubris in the original game, but he was brought back in the sequels as a somewhat nicer jerk because the developers and fans felt he was too fashionable to die.

Who do you care for?

The request was for: PROMPT “You only care about yourself” and the "I'm done trying to help you" for Rufus x Female!Reader(quotes being said to Rufus?) - (but like, my boy Rufus is a misunderstood baby so maybe there is a way to make it hurt/comfort - either way, I'm interested to see what ya come up with!)

Who do you care for?

It was another day and the blond man lay face down on your bed. Your alarm had gone off and he didn’t wake. Most nights he’d come in late, 12am, complaining his father had threatened to disinherit him and strip him of his title.

You’d spend hours trying to reassure him, make plans with him. He’d eventually calm down and go to sleep. However, that large chunk of time had been eaten into your sleep time. You always had to get up early. 5am early.

It was becoming apparent that Rufus just didn’t care, he was too focused on himself.

You woke at 12am the next night to the familiar sound of knocking. You sighed and dragged yourself out of bed, wrapping yourself in a dressing gown. There he stood, looking sullen.

“Rufus. Its 12am,” You snapped.

“He threatened me again. He wants to pair me off to some rich woman,” Rufus pushed passed you to enter your home. You slammed your arm out to stop him from entering.

He blinked confused.

“You kept me up until 2am last night. I have to get up at 5am every day to get to work,” you snapped.

“Oh I-”

“NO Rufus, I’ve had it! You only care about yourself. I'm done trying to help you!" You gave him a shove and angrily slammed the door in your face.

Taking deep breaths trying not to cry you made your way back to bed. You didn’t care that Rufus was still stood outside your door processing what had happened. Where he’d gone wrong. He knocked again at your door, but you didn’t open. Just pulled the blanket over your head.

Rufus had tried a few times to contact you over the next month. You ignored the texts deleting them before even reading them. He’d tried calling, you ended the call. He didn’t seem to give up and it annoyed you.

At 10pm there was a knock at the door. You got up and saw Rufus stood at your door. Anger swelled in your chest.

“RUFUS, I TOLD YOU GO AWAY!” You shouted at him.

People would start peaking around their curtains, but you didn’t care.

“Y/N… I’m sorry. Please can we talk,” Rufus asked.

He didn’t try to make a move to come in. You leant on your door frame.

“Alright, I’m listening,” you replied and walked in.

Rufus sat down on your sofa. He accepted a cup of tea and watched as you sat down beside him.

“I… Didn’t realise how selfish I had become,” he explained, “I’m sorry I can be so self-centred.”

You listened to him as he apologies. Once he fell silent you nodded, accepting his apology. However, you still weren’t sure if it was an empty apology. You weren’t stupid.

“Alright, I accept your sorry. However, I need to you stop coming over at 12am. I need you to not keep me up so late. My work is important. I understand that your father is a bully. He is looking to disinherit you, cut you off, whatever. But you need to start standing up for yourself, instead of running to me.”

He nodded, listening to your rules and needs for change. He’d try his best to follow them. He was just happy that you agreed to have him back in your life. In the end Rufus got up and kissed you deeply.

“I promise to do better, and to care for you as much as you care for me.”
