Source link

Do you think Grima Fire Emblem would be good eatin'? And how would one even prepare that?
hmm see im conflicted about this. 3 scenarios in my head
grima's dragon form might just be hot air and can poof in and out of material plane so long as robin is present as a medium. therefore, eating grima is not possible umu
2. eating grima is possible but they are a creature thats associated with the earth and so might have a strong earthly taste in which case HHHHBR ok theres ways to prep this but still. not my to-go type of flavor... will probably wanna toss bits of grima in a claypot with lotus roots and LOOOOOOTS of herbs and ginger get something like this
Tumblr media
claypot herbal chicken grima. more bc grima seems like something that belongs on the chinese meal dining table in my head. probly the association with fengshui and eastern asian stuff up in my noggin:
Tumblr media
less bc those stuff are super effective at evening oit the earthy flavors. I think.
3. IF grima isnt earthy:
grima might anatomically resemble a kind of reptilian snake creature but a billion times bigger and with some mix of human flesh on it, so taste wise it might be... really meaty? i think yeah perfectly edible. id want to try cooking them in alcohol to see how it'd taste, its probably gonna be amazing with the addition of a sharp fucking kick to the funky meat base. and also, FIRM meat :o
the method for that is gonna be
diced meat in pot, add wine alcohol, blast it with spices and sauce, cook off the alcohol, then wine alcohol it again, cook a bit more....
and serve. with rice! :3

试问:这是啥?//Question: what is this?
Tumblr media
and I only just remembered about these, but I kept seeing these turtle dragon statues around. I need to research them more but honestly, they're so cute I might just call them my 6th favorite type
@secondhanddragon So, you wanted to know what this is?
I went to search for their information and the creature with the highest probability (so high my confidence level is at 99%) of matching the above is...
金鳌,或称龙龟
Golden Ao, also known as Dragon Turtle
Tumblr media
It's classified as a divine turtle (神龟)rather than a dragon; my guess is that since it is not one of the Dragon's Sons, it doesn't count in a traditional bestiary.
It has the shell of a turtle but the body of a dragon, and once again, it's useful in Fengshui. It symbolizes power and wealth.
-----------------------
However! This is not the only turtle-dragon in Chinese mythology. In fact, my Brain's first thought—though we kinda immediately discarded it—was the other one...
赑屃,或称霸下、龟趺
Bixi, also known as Ba Xia ("Dominate Below") and Gui Fu ("Foot Tortoise")
Tumblr media
Now this is one of the Dragon's Nine Sons. Bixi is strong; the word 赑 basically means "able to support great weight," but it's not a common word to be used in any stretch. It's the son of the dragon and a tortoise, and later depictions of Bixi gradually show characteristics of a dragon more than its earlier, clearly-tortoise-like features.
How did you rate your confidence level? Why are you sre that the image I showed you was a Dragon Turtle and not a Bixi?
It's the function of Bixi that gave it away!
Bixi is always made to carry steles and important tablets on its back, especially the ones by emperors. The idea is that the deeds and/or names of those recorded on this stele/tablet will live on forever with Bixi, who has the steadfast longevity of a tortoise and the divine power of a dragon.
It possesses quite a few meanings:
power and status; hence its steles are often those of emperors, high chiefs, and whatnot.
longevity, since it is the son of a tortoise
local cultural symbol (local tribal importance)
and mythological symbolism (in Taoism)
One of the myths concerning Bixi is this: Bixi used to carry mountains on its back and wreak chaos through tidal waves. Then, one of China's ancient emperors, Da Yu, subjugated Bixi and made it work under him. Da Yu was known for his Great Flood project—he devoted much of his life to solving it, and in this mythologized version, Bixi was one of those divine creatures who helped*. When the project was over, Da Yu worried that Bixi would return to its old wayward ways, so he created this gigantic stone tablet detailing Bixi's contribution and great deeds and asked Bixi to carry it around. The weight of that tablet caused Bixi to be too sluggish to wreak havoc anymore.
*You might be interested to know that another one who helped Da Yu was "Ying Long (应龙)"—yes, this is a full-fledged dragon.
This is how I'm confident that your image was that of a dragon turtle and not a Bixi.
---
How do I distinguish between a Bixi and Black Tortoise (Xuan Wu 玄武)?
Same deal. It's the stele/tablet. Also, Bixi has teeth. Tortoises do not. Later Bixi has draconic features. Xuan Wu is always... a tortoise! Hahahaha.
----
So there you go. I'm most confident that it is a dragon turtle. However, Bixi has more stories to it due to being a Son of the Dragon.
As a rule of heuristics (not statistics; I did not collect data for this), if a Chinese myth creature is found as a small, delicate ornament, it's quite likely that it has connotations in Fengshui. It's the same for Pixiu and Qilin, and the same for dragon turtles too.
Thank you for reading my ramble! I hope it was fun and informative for you!

Kafka's Notes: I generally don't like Baidu Baike because it lacks citational rigor, so it's hard to trace information to its source. However, it was very useful for me to search for names and preliminary information, so I included it here. Some of the stuff I mentioned (like the Legend of Bixi and Da Yu) was from Baidu Baike; I judged that a folklore is not always recorded in academic sources, so this instance of lacking citational rigor is acceptable.ramble with citations

DOMAN GEOMANCY
A brief concept for Doman geomancy that I’ve come up with. Some notes taken from FFXIV canon, others taken from real life practices such as fengshui.
Tumblr media
Doman geomancy emphasizes the pursuit of harmony and does so through communion with the world’s currents of air, earth, and water. While the presence of air and water currents may seem obvious to many, the so-called currents of earth are naturally occurring lines of energy that run within the land itself. These underground currents are more commonly known as “ryumyaku”, which translates in the Eorzean tongue as “Dragon Veins” or as better understood by some, ley lines. By observing the world around them, a well-trained geomancer can identify the flow of these different elements and tap into their power for their own arcane purposes.
Below are described some common tools and techniques of Doman geomancy.
TOOLS OF THE TRADE:
Hakke Mirror – A magical focus tracing its origins from the Doman art of geomantic divination. Surrounding the central mirror, a polished octagonal metal plate is engraved with eight “trigrams,” each aligned to one edge of the plate and representing a cardinal or ordinal direction. The mirror itself represents protection against negative energy, which in geomantic magic is exemplified by the art’s affinity for barriers. Many ancient hakke diagrams also show a symbol of light and darkness called “inyo” or “onmyo,” which has led some scholars to suggest an ancient Doman ancestry for the Hingan art of onmyojutsu.
Ekikyo – A classical text studied by countless scholars and far eastern mages, this essential tome canonized at some point after the founding of Doma contains the 64 hexagrams of Doman divination, their meanings and interpretation, and philosophical commentaries on the spiritual and moral significance of the text. While any master geomancer has memorized this book, the majority continue to carry it for ease of reference and to reflect upon its contents.
Handbell – Evolved from the ancient Doman technique of casting bronze bells called hensho, the geomancer’s handbell is an essential tool for the activation of certain magics. After attuning with currents of air, earth, and water, a geomancer channels these energies using their own ki or aetherial flow as the path that delivers them to their ultimate destination. The tone of the geomancer’s handbell then resonates with the elements, expressing the caster’s will and activating the desired magic. In some cases, bells are directly attached to the geomancer’s Hakke Mirror for convenience. Some highly skilled geomancers are known to wield multiple bells to produce different tones, which when combined may produce extraordinary results.
ART OF THE ELEMENTS:
Elemental Attunement – The geomancer draws upon an element, altering healing magics with its characteristics.
Heavenly Air: Healing magic stirs the internal ki of the target, granting the power of regeneration.
Guardian Earth: Healing magic draws the strength of earth into the target, granting the protection of barriers.
Flowing Water: Healing magic channels the movement of water, granting increased evasiveness.
Shifting Balance – Excessive use of destructive magic alters the balance of power. As the balance tilts towards one element, destructive effectiveness is reduced and the burden upon the geomancer grows. Only by returning to balance with the aid of the other elements can power be restored.
Veins of Power – Drawing upon the energy of the earth itself, the geomancer increases the strength of their barrier magics.
Perfect Harmony – The geomancer brings all elements into harmony, momentarily granting them the capability to cast magic with rapid ease.
Divine Command – A trigram on the Hakke Mirror glows with the will of the kami, granting the geomancer a sign of power that may aid themselves or an ally.
Greater Rite of Heaven – A second trigram on the Hakke Mirror glows with the will of the kami, granting the geomancer a greater sign that may aid themselves or an ally when activated simultaneously with another trigram.

Can peace be restored in the mindspaces? Or will the evil Liew witchy 6 operating out of Malaysia hold sway? Will people betray one another using telepathy, and is that prophetically okay? All I can see is a kettle boiling over. Applying some patches so everyone feels better including myself. For God does not give His children more than they can bear -it is in the Bible!
Woke up a little late today but squeezed in my run and workout routine. I am now quite fit just as Joey Yap, our local fengshui master predicted. Dragon sign’s health is best in 2024. Have also to not offend the ‘Grand Duke’, i.e. to assume a leadership role this year, or suffer the consequences of a coward and dullard.
Was out for an Indian breakfast with Dad, then my other cousin came over to visit, bringing us macadamias from Ipoh in the mid north. We’ll see each other more later around the Chinese New Year next month.
All my jobs are on hold as mindspace concerns and illogical modes are weeded out. Somehow, my YouTube channel viewers like the MQ-27 on faux lizard shorts a lot. Nobody wants STT much. Personally, I like my budget tank job quite a lot too. Just nowhere to wear it to just yet.
I have sticky rice with savory chicken and mushroom waiting for lunch. Lomaikai is one of my favorite Chinese foods. Fiends abound in the mindspaces, people of no faith, grace, and even less morals. Be strong, everyone.

Did you know you have 4 Animals? The year you were born is the animal that most people know about. When I grew up my family would LOVE to go to Chinese Food Restaurants, and this one place in particular was called Double Dragon. They had the 12 Chinese Animals on their placemats with dates and simple definitions. The YEAR ANIMAL pertains to your External World or thought of as your Outer animal and it represents your friends, your social circle, your outlook, your appearance; what you manifest outwardly to the world around you, money, business and your Network. #chinesenewyear #yearoftherabbit #blackwateryinrabbit #yinwaterrabbit #gongxifacai #newyear #fortunecookies #fengshui #follow #cny #imlek #lunarnewyear #angpao #sincia #chinesemedicine #ancientmedicine #trysomethingnew #askmeanything #doctorleta #redenvelope #liondance #sangjit #bajuimlek #chineseculture #chinesenewyear2023 #startwithyourself #4pillars #luckpillar #yearofthehare — view on Instagram https://ift.tt/vL1j8Fc
