We're feeling nostalgic today, and remembering our women's gym. This was our first project and it brought us sweat-sisters from all around the world! What a joy it was to create a cute, safe, powerful space where women could lift weights, kickbox, learn mixed martial arts, dance and more! Wow it was so painful when we had to close this space last year! A series of unfortunate events, bad collaborations and non-paying corporate clients ensured that we weren't able to pay our incredible trainers or maintain our programs. We took our pain, depression disappointment and created something new. We made it the compost for Feminist Utopia, a project that truly heals and refreshes the women we engage. We make women happy, and they don't even have to afford 15,000 per class! We're so grateful for the people and organizations who have believed in us, and funded our research, development and #FeministUtopiaTour around Uganda. From y'all who have bought our shirts to those who have put money ib our hands. You don't have to take a rigid stance of love or hate against your body. You only have to be friends with this unique vessel, your spaceship! Part of Feminist Utopia is a Body Throne Room. While in it, you are encouraged to neutrally regard all the parts of your body, and write a letter to your least favorite or favorite body part. Many offhand comments that we receive in our formative years stick with us as body anxieties. In this space, we confront them and begin to engage our bodies like they are worthy of careful consideration. Emotional self defense is a muscle that you have to strengthen! Emotional abuse manifests in many ways so it helps to be self aware and unembarrassed about your decision to face up to an abuser. 1. Practice how to keep a straight face when everyone around you is using laughter as a minimizing tactic, especially after a micro or macro aggression 2. Breathe and understand that some people will dislike you for making REASONABLE protestations and requests 3. Apply all the promises, benefits and protections of FEMINISM to every situation in your life. When we embrace feminism, we receive new language, support from sisters, new understandings of our rights, new freedoms and a whole lot of empathy and loving kindness.
